We went to the opening of Howard Brandenburg's exhibition at Willaura Modern last night. It's incredible to see work like this - but in a tiny gallery in a tiny town, it's even more so! Howard grew up in New Mexico, and now lives with his family on a farm in Western Victoria. He uses unusual substrates and framing - this one on Jean canvas and with related newspaper stories pasted to the frame. A friend of a friend lost her house in those fires last year - and summer is coming... Actually, parts of Australia have been suffering bushfires all year. #art #artwork #laterallines #howardbrandenburg #willaura #willauramodern #climatechange #bushfire #wildfire (at Willaura, Victoria, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B30UHrrB71g/?igshid=1af19gp8l0fuq

Linha Lateral
Tumblr media
Fig. 1 - Representação da linha lateral Fonte: Shark Project
Tumblr media
Fig. 3 - Detalhe das células neuromástias Fonte: HowStuffWorks

The very first Movement Muscles & Meridians illustration “The default movement pattern vertebrates have employed is a side to side undulation. This inherited pattern of movement is still the core curriculum for human locomotion.” -Dr. Philip Beach Speaking of curriculum, I’m offering first ever live zoom course this Saturday, March 11, from 10am-12pm PST Yes it will be recorded! The inner coil? The ipsi coil? Stumbled upon this coil from tracing the liver and spleen meridians. I haven’t seen this documented before and so I started playing with it. When placed into gait, I really feel it highlighted in suspension, and then I can accentuate it with placing all my weight into the front foot… Feeling the coil from left neck, through my right shoulder into my right obliques, coiling through adductors counter balancing the lateral line. What’s interesting to me, if you scroll back through some of my earlier posts tracing spiral lines through fascia, there’s a big toe to eye connection previously found. Much clearer now. #fascia #fascialfitness #fascialtraining #fasciatraining #fascialstretchtherapy #myofascialtherapy #myofascial #energeticanatomy #Spiral #Spirallines #lateralline #coil #coiling #spiraling #Movement #structuralintegrationthroughmovement #movementismedicine #gait #walking #walkingislife #walkingisgoodforthesoul #walkingismytherapy #itsallconnected #Anatomy #anatomyart #anatomystudying #adaptablepolarity https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm14vO1JTVU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The coil, the lateral line and side bending This one got crazy but was a fun exploration both illustrating and feeling in the body. Try this: -take a deep breath, check in with your body, really try to squeeze that exhale out and fully fill your inhale in -then, side bend to one side, really close and clamp that side crunch down on one side and take several deep breaths from there -repeat on other side -go back to your central / neutral breath, check back in. What’s different? I still feel breath and breathing is one of the most under utilized tools and technologies of the human body. We’re working on that. Remember, one conscious breath is a meditation. #ribs #ribmovement #lateralline #breath #breathing #breathoflife #diaphragm #asymmetrical #symmetrical #adaptablepolarity #Spiral #coil #Anatomy #anatomyart #anatomystudy #humananatomy #spiraling #coilingcore #coilingcoretraining #coiling #doublehelix #dna https://www.instagram.com/p/CmzTDkzvbC6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Posterior Coil Spiral Exploring how the lateral line and posterior chain interact in the coiling Also, black and whites vs color? Spots of interest: Neck extensors to rhomboids- such a common complaint spot and often a “referral” pattern from scalenes Rhomboids to serratus anterior wrap- that deep coil under the shoulder blade just seems so important Basically a horizontal band on the low back I never considered through the thoracolumbar fascia. I just like the challenge to my dogma thought that it was a diagonal tension #fascia mat (aponeurosis) The deep hip- containing deep abs, some anterior fibers of glutes and then hip rotators All of these highlights are pivotal points in movement and part of this coil …which again is mostly an interaction with the lateral line and the other lines. #fascial #spiral #coil #coiling #spirals #doublehelix #myofascialrelease #myofascialreleasetherapy #myofascialmovement #fascialstretchtherapy #fascialtraining #fascialfitness #energeticanatomy #energetico #fascialstretch #itsallconnected #lateralline #posteriorchain #thespiral #thespiralinnature #humancoil #adaptablepolarity #meridiansystem #meridians #movement #rolfmovement #movementismedicine https://www.instagram.com/p/CmuIzkMP37m/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The spiral is dead. It’s a coil. (And I love love love spirals) Looking at spinal coupling images last night and Fryette’s Laws, and I just couldn’t find an image that I thought I was looking for, and then, I stumbled on the little background image with green arrows… “Oh who put this together?” None other than @thedavidweck so all credit to him on that image. I’ve been seeing something in movement and locomotion that hasn’t fully downloaded into words yet. The basics are spinal mechanics and Fryette’s laws. The importance of this coil and what it does for your spine. The evolution of the spine and the movements that are necessary and vital for it. When we side bend from neutral, there’s a rotation to the opposite side. When we side bend from flexed or extended state, rotation is same side. If there is a lack in one plane, all directions suffer. Why have we lost the coil? Why does lateral flexion initiate the coil so well? And what does the coil do on a deeper, intrinsic and energetic level? If love lights up DNA, what about movements? I don’t know how I sleep! #somanyquestions #spinalcoupling #coupledmotion #lateralline #theweckmethod #rotationalmovement #coiling #humancoil #fascialtraining #fascialfitness #fascial #fascia #myofascial #myofascia #myofascialmeridians #myofascialmassage #Movement #meridians #movementismedicine #movementislife #movementistherapy #adaptablepolarity https://www.instagram.com/p/CmehZxAJvRx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Your lateral line: muscles, myofascia, and meridians What came first? Chicken or the egg? Well, in terms of vertebrates patterns “spinal yield & push” is the first vertebrate pattern. We either initiate this movement from the head or the tail to produce movement from our poles. Initiating from the head sends us tailward, and initiating from the tail sends us headward. This is represented by fish, as previously discussed in other posts, but also seen in humans by the fetus yielding and pushing the body against the wall of the uterus and by newborns initiating movement to briefly lift their head like in search for the nipple. It is the both, of course, tail to head and head to tail that balance each other and provide cohesiveness through the central axis. Internal Oblique: linchpin of the lateral line? Everybody wants six packs, but what about those love handles??? Most AK texts say abdominals relate to small intestine but I disagree. I think the internal oblique relates to the gallbladder channel. Either way, I’m finding it super important to connect with this muscle more and more, which has an interesting relationship / connection to Quadratus Lumborum (QL) as well! Depicted in anterior view A thought came up: what if so much low back pain is because QL is not working in the frontal plane enough? The two opposing lateral images in this slide-set are the same running model, but not just flipped. They are the different sides of the body. Notice anything? Check out those triangles. Location, size, direction, other shapes Interesting to note for myself in illustrating this was the posterior fibers of the internal oblique appear to run more toes to nose (vertically) than obliquely. I didn’t know that. Learned something new and highlights that QL connection in my mind. #internalobliques #abdominalobliquo #abdominals #obliqueworkout #sidebending #lateralflexion #gait #running #gaitanalysis #gallbladdermeridian #lateralline #fascia #myofascia #fascialfitness #adaptablepolarity #Anatomy #Humananatomy #movementismedicine #appliedkinesiology #meridiansinmotion #meridians #meridiansystem #tcm https://www.instagram.com/p/CmZ8JHYvhwq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
