Movement, Muscles & Meridians: the anterior body According to Dr. Beach and his embryological studies, the anterior contractile field develops simultaneously with the posterior. This means a couple things with deeper implications. First, the lateral fields are their own antagonists and they are symmetrical. The anterior and posterior chains are antagonistic, but not symmetrical. We can side bend and this is an essential movement, but it is the containment between the anterior and posterior that allow propulsion and movement through space…most of the time on two feet. I’m inferring here to the importance of balance between front and back, and I see this all the time with back pain and issues around intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). It’s all about #balance New series begins at the foot. Following through all fascial planes and meridians, comparing, contrasting and exploring. Movement: dorsi flexion Muscles: tibialis anterior, toe extensors Meridians: superficial front line of fascia, Stomach channel in Chinese medicine #endbeginallthesame #ontothenext #superficialfrontline #anatomytrains #fascia #fascial #myofascial #myofascia #myofascialmeridians #meridiansystem #meridian #meridians #muscles #movement #dorsiflexion #tibialisanterior #toeextensors #energyhealers #bodymechanics #adaptablepolarity #reflexology #footreflexology #anatomystudy #anatomyart #humananatomy #anatomy #artexploration #anatomyexplorations (at Santa Cruz, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfmRpehp73w/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

TIBIALIS ANTERIOR PAIN ⠀ [PATHOLOGY AND SELF-TREATMENT] ⠀ For the anatomy of the tibialis anterior check my previous posts! ⠀ Tensions in the tibialis anterior can lead to pain, sensitivity to pressure and a feeling of tension in the tibia (shin bone). Trigger points (TP’s) on the other hand, refer the pain into the big toe and into the anterior middle area of the ankle. Shin pain may also occur, but it’s not the primary pain caused by this muscle. ⠀ Besides pain, people with TP’s in this muscle complain about: ▪️Weakness when “contracting the toes” (dorsiflexion) → Pulling the toes up. ▪️Frequent dragging of the toes when walking. ▪️Frequent tripping. All these problems can have the same myofascial origin. TP’s in a muscle often impair the control over a muscle and its function, respectively. This means it cannot be “properly” controlled by the nervous system. ⠀ The function of the tibialis anterior is, among others, to pull the back of the foot upwards. If this function is impaired, the symptoms described above, such as tripping, are likely to occur. ⠀ The tibialis anterior is made for continuous work (it contains 2/3 slow-twitch fibers type I) and is therefore less frequently overstrained in everyday life. Still, intense sports and trauma can overload the muscle and activate TP’s. These occur mainly in indoor sports. A sticky floor and sticky shoes ensure fast start-stop movements and quick changes of direction. The ankle joint needs to be stabilized and the tibialis has to perform at its best. This can activate trigger points! ⠀ Self-massage of the tibialis anterior with a @Blackroll Mini: ▪️Take the quadruped stand. ▪️Place the foam roller under your shinbone. ▪️Now shift some weight to the side to be massaged in order to push the roll into the muscle. ▪️If you don‘t shift your weight, you will as a result only press on your shinbone. ▪️Execute short and slow rolling movements over the entire length of the tibialis and look for painful tensions. ▪️Once you find one, roll a few times from just before to just behind the painful spot. ⠀ #anatomy #osteopathy #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #tibialisanterior #muscle #fascia #yoga #triggerpoint #pilates #crossfit (hier: Indian Wells, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9meNViBMRY/?igshid=1k0esaewbkaie

I love having my clients use this @hammerstrengthofficial #tibialisanterior machine . I can’t you how vital great equipment is to my program design. This gem is a unique piece you don’t see very often at all. It works the tibias anterior vía dorsi flexion. This is the most ignored muscle in leg training programs I’ve seen in my many years in #gym . Why do people ignore their calfs and tibialis muscles? I’m not sure. Not on watch however. #notonmywatch (at The Island Personal Training) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2i50D_B53F/?igshid=136e3s411dipd

Relieve #bunion #pain with #footwork #exersice 1 to activate arch of foot. The arch of the foot has a lot to suffer if the #tibialisanterior isn't activated and the arch sub-sequentially collapses. This exercise is mainly so we can learn how to recognise and fire up that #muscle but to keep the arch nicely activated we need to keep the ball of the toe grounded while keeping the pressure on the inside of the heel. No #inversion of the foot! #ilovemyjob #igdaily #igyoga #yoga #therapy #walking #standing #posture (at Oxton Village)
