Fooduary Day 14: Cheesecake
(Happy Valentine’s Day) the cheesecake is also in the running for oldest dessert on this prompt. The first written record of it is from 230 AD in Ancient Greece, but they are allegedly older. Raise your hand if you were surprised by this fun fact because I certainly was!

This week's hyper fixation ; Minoan civilization.
The Minoans have been heavy on my mind lately. Maybe also because of the documentaries I've watched....
I love how colorful their frescos are and the fashions of the time 😌
Biggest issue; why is there so little left of them?? Why did they have to be wiped out like that... honestly wish I could go back in time to experience their culture and daily life.

Costumes of Ancient People and national costumes of Europe. I found many gorgeous photos but I only posted the relevant ones here because the blog is themed. From the World Book Encyclopedia.

YouTube GIFs || Crows’ Eye Productions: Getting Dressed in Roman Britain
Dress was part of the identity of the Roman citizen, so it changed slowly. The gap sleeved tunic was popular from the first to third century CE, gradually giving way to a close shoulder seam and a shaped sleeve. Clothes were made from wool or linen, but the very wealthy could afford silk and the super-wealthy could adorn their silk clothes with gold thread borders.
... But this lifestyle was not to last. An economy based on stolen lands, wealth, and labour and dominated by a super-wealthy elite was unsustainable. The year 410 saw the end of the Roman occupation of Britain and the vacuum was to be filled by new waves of migration from western and northern Europe.

Fashion History : How  Garments Got Their Shapes
Before the 16th century came around most garments were variations of drapes and throws with beautiful details and embroidery but without much shape or fit to the body. Draped Garments For Women Draped Garments For Men However soft draped lines began to disappear as the century went on. Throughout the 1500’s women’s dress had two matches n parts which were a bodice and a skirt. Sleeves were…

Hades!!
Ages and ages ago I was asked if I would ever do any animated/Disney villains and now finally, finally we are getting around to it. We’re starting with Hades…. For essentially no reason other than I was inspired by an idea for his hair… so tada!
Every once in a while Disney has a surprisingly historical inspiration clear in their character designs. A lot of the time it's not at all present, but sometimes, like Tiana's drop waist gowns or well... Hades, it's kind of what it "should" be. This sort of layered elbow-length tunic under a long draped cloak (himation) over one arm/shoulder is a ancient greek men's fashion. So I didn't change much... but I did decide to keep the mist/clouds at his feet, his disney color palette and his flame hair... with alterations. Keeping in mind of course that the Disney Hades is different from the actual mythological Hades in many ways...but we can save that for another day... I have been thinking of doing some mythos-inspired redesigns/fashion looks so we will see what happens ;D

Hollywood be like: hmm we should make a movie about greek mythology but how should we dress them
Historians: according to history, ancient greeks wore many colors and the rich people often wore more rare and expensive like purple...
Hollywood: so white and gold it is!
Historians:...????
At least it looks classy 😂 Lower classes definitely wore almost only white or neutral colours but, yeah, rich people had more elaborate and colourful clothing.

We gotta bring back old clothing, because that shit slapped.
I'm not even talking about just old western clothing, all old clothing
And I'm not talking about like 50 years ago, like 300 years ago.
Listen. Just wear what was fashionable in your culture in the 1700s I promise you, it'll look good
(Or go further back, I dare you)
