the whole "if you don't reblog every piece of art you see, you hate me personally" attitude is so weird bc at its core is the idea i see in all the new-user guides that tumblr has no post-recommending algorithm. which. is blatantly untrue. y'all just talk about how much you hate it and you all have it turned off. idk man.
i'm sure that part of it is also the bizarre opinion that likes are equivalent to bookmarks, and reblogs are equivalent to likes. that's... also not true. everyone has the option to make their likes public, it's just that every new-user guide also recommends you turn that off. likes are likes, reblogs are bookmarks.
people say it's great that you can hide your liked posts from your page, but also if you don't put every post you like on your page, you're doing it wrong? there's just. there are like three layers of hypocrisy here and it melts my brain every time.

Hi! I hope you don't mind me asking, but as a digital artist, what do you think needs improvement in our art community?
Hi! i wouldn't exactly say that ive noticed any problems that need improvement or that i even am a member of the overall digital art community tbh. But what i do love about my small circle of artists mutuals is that we tend to always reblog and get excited over each others work. Expecting such a thing from the entire userbase of this site is rather unrealistic so i think that everyone should be a part of a small group of insane mutuals. Its good for u.

I don't think I've said this before but I just wanted to take a moment and say that I don't practice reblog karma. If you want to reblog something from me, be it a meme, a musing, or art, then feel free! I don't care! I like it when people do that! Seriously, I'm always going to advocate for "ah yes, person reblogged a thing I like, I shall reblog it from them" in the rpc. And if I reblog something you like? Please, feel free to reblog it yourself. I won't ever ask you to send a meme in if you reblog one from me nor will I expect it; if you do, it's a pleasant surprise! But if you ever worried about it, consider this your greenlight to know that you are absolutely welcome to reblog anything but my asks/roleplay threads. I consider a reblog from me in the vein of "my humble offering has pleased my friends, yes yes, good" because I'm just that kind of person.

"liking but not reblogging does nothing and likes only annoy artists" speak for yourself friends, i adore getting likes on my art. honestly i find it extremely off-putting to see captions on artwork demanding reblogs and telling people they're annoying or rude for not reblogging something... giving a post a like is communicating that someone enjoyed it enough to let you know they liked it! there are plenty of reasons someone would want to let you know they enjoyed something but not necessarily want it on their blog... maybe they only post their OWN art on their blogs, and their followers only want to see that. maybe they don't have any followers, or have their blog hidden and therefore reblogging wouldn't spread the post anyways. it just really rubs me the wrong way because all youre doing is alienating a potential audience who mightve really enjoyed your art.
by the way there's no issue with just.. asking for reblogs like a normal person! saying something like "hey I'd really appreciate reblogs, it helps my account grow" is totally fine... but lashing out and telling people "likes only annoy artists" (WHICH I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE TIMES) is just. so rude and mean in my opinion. stop telling people all artists hate likes bc myself and SO MANY OTHERS appreciate all the support we can get ❤️ you are never obligated to reblog anything, i appreciate all interactions i get and tbh i just think it's entitled and really unpleasant to act rude to people because they wanted to tell you they liked your stuff without posting it on their own account.

me writing thousand-word drabbles to randomly send to my moots: :))
me when i remember all the unfinished wips i’ve got: :/
me when i remember that i haven’t written and posted an actual fic in ages: :(
me when said moots respond to the drabbles with the exact level of excitement/hype that i was hoping for: :)))))
me when i do actually post something and it gets minimal to no active engagement (reviews, unique tags, reaction pics, hype, etc.): :(
me when i remember that creating long, drawn out AUs with my moots and sending drabbles back and forth to each other is more fun and emotionally fulfilling because it means someone will actually actively engage with my writing by hyping me up and/or sending me their own thoughts and opinions and ideas instead of just leaving a like and (occasionally) a tagless/commentless reblog before disappearing back into the void: :/
