I wouldn’t be surprised if the people that are upset about Lucy Maclean and Cooper Howard being shipped are those from outside the fandom, and just barely got into Fallout.

They would’ve known by now that shipping ghouls is quite popular. No one in this community really cares about a stupid age gap. Fallout has presented us some freaky stuff over the years. Marry Me FISTO. The most popular fanfics from Fallout 3/4 are with ghouls (John Hancock, Charon, etc). Don’t be discouraged by the popularity of it, just write and draw the ship you want more representation of, and don’t be a dick.

By this point we’ve all seen a hundred “Lucy had a crush on Cooper Howard and doesn’t realize he’s the Ghoul” takes (which feed me during the hiatus, thanks), but just for the lols I’d love to see the reversal: Lucy hates this guy.

Cooper Howard is her personal White Whale. Lucy hate-watches his films and nit-picks every scene like someone is paying her caps to do it. Whatever the opposite of a blorbo is, that’s Cooper. She woke up one day and chose violence against this 200 years dead actor in particular… but, you know, in a PR approved, Vaultie kind of way. Why the hate? Who knows. Probably a combination of her dad showing her Cooper’s debut film right when she hit that tween age where liking what your parents like is soul crushing and the fact that if she didn’t have this emotional outlet she’d probably explode. It’s the one (1) thing goody-goody Lucy is irrational about and Norm takes endless pleasure in it.

So she’s traveling with the Ghoul, right? Not a whole lot to do while traversing the Wasteland, especially when your companion is blatantly ignoring you and the pip-boy isn’t picking up any radio signals. So when Lucy is able to open that wound again she starts talking about her dad. The books he liked. Jokes he told over dinner. His favorite pair of socks. Silly, inconsequential things that don’t touch on the weight of his betrayal.

Eventually, Lucy talks about the movies they used to watch.

Eventually, Lucy is comfortable enough—and bored enough—to segue into epic rants about Cooper Fudging Howard. For hours. Nothing escapes her passive aggressive, couched-as-constructive-criticism bitching. Not his acting (“Really, he’d benefit from learning a gesture other than sticking his hands in his belt”), not his looks (“Who decided to put him in those pants in Master of the Ranch? Although, Dad says Howard is the one who requested them…”), not even his unintentional impact on the family (“I swear if Dad makes me watch A Man and His Dog one more time…”).

All the while Cooper is walking a few paces ahead. Seemingly stoic.

Actually losing it.

What’s he even supposed to do in this situation?? He hates himself, but not like that. Cooper doesn’t have any desire to talk to Vaultie (that’s a lie. He’s good at lying to himself), but suddenly he wants to turn around, finger held aloft in the air (hers), and correct everything coming out of her mouth—whether he truly disagrees or not. Hands-in-belt is a classic cowboy pose. He loved those pants.

Cooper is Struggling™ and they haven’t even hit the strip yet.

Bonus points: Somewhere along the line they get together and Cooper starts angsting over whether Lucy will leave him. Not because of the radiation damage, or the murder, or the cannibalism, but because if she ever finds out he’s Cooper Howard she’ll absolutely abandon ship. Or kill him. Either option seems likely at this point.

Lucy: Are you ever going to tell me your name? Cooper, literally in bed with Lucy post-coitus: …That’s a little personal, sweetheart

Honestly I’m more of a Lucy x Max shipper: I think it makes more sense. I don’t really understand why would you ship Cooper with Lucy, they never gave those vibes in the series. It could be a sort of enemies to lovers story but… it seems to be forced. Opinions?

(Don’t get me wrong I loved all of their scenes together! But they give me more.. dad and daughter vibes?! I really enjoyed the dynamics between the two, they’re very funny together, but it’s just… that)

Ok more thoughts cause I have brain rot today apparently…. This one is on the topic of romantic pairings and shipping.

Unsurprisingly, I ship Ghoulcy. I really don’t vibe with the Lucy and Max pairing - although I LOVE Max’s character and Aaron’s acting playing him. Unbelievably compelling writing and I can’t wait to see where his story goes.

For me though, I just don’t feel the chemistry between them, but even more to the point - I feel like the show is really setting us up for them to NOT end up together anyways. With a show that has this kind of quality, subtle writing, to have a pairing that are so damsel in distress and knight in shining armour (literally)? Basically cake toppers? Girl meets boy, girl and boy get googly eyes? They have a literal verbal conversation about how they’re gonna live happily ever after when this is all over? In THIS universe? This show?? To me nothing foreshadows that this is the last thing that’s gonna happen more.

It remains to be seen whether shipping Lucy and the Ghoul will remain outside of the canon strictly speaking too. But at this point with what they seem to be setting up…. I feel like either Ghoulcy or everyone ending up essentially single/romantically unattached are kind of tied for the lead possibilities in my mind, and Lucy x Max is less likely to actually unfold the way the characters think it will or want it to. For aforementioned reasons. (I think this is especially true if Maximus goes farther down the darker path in his very grey morality style portrayal)

Of course that’s not to say you can’t love the pairing and ship it anyways. That’s what fan fiction, fan art and your imagination are for, whichever ships you prefer. And this show is giving us enough to feed off of regardless. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Dude, i'm with you about people projecting another fandoms dynamic to fallout. Like fallout is always freaky. Some are wanting project the father-daughter dynamic to Lucy and Cooper when that's so far from it. Like it ain't like Joel and Ellie in which Joel feels care and protective to Ellie. Lucy and Cooper have begrudging mutual respect at the end of the show. Like, if anything, Lucy has a decent father before the lies, and she has more like mommy issues rather than daddy issues. Cooper also ain't looking for a daughter. If they want a much platonic interpretation, it has to be mentor-student.

Also, don't get me started of YJ fandom invading the fallout fandom. Like, they might have same actress, but it's a different role and story. Why are you guys in the fallout fandom screaming to stop shipping a character to anyone because your fandom had dibs? Like, really... like because your ship is dead and your show is falling off the cliff doesn't give you the right to harass other fandoms. Like avoid fallout fandom if you just want to ship the actress previous character.

Things turning romantic between them makes the most sense. it honestly confuses me how people don’t see romantic tension between them like. I’m in awe that people think it’s a weird ship

if anything Lucy and Max is the relationship that pisses me off the most like I do not feel like seeing them being romantic next season (which is probably what’s gonna end up happening, I don’t see the writers actually putting Lucy with the Ghoul but we can dream y’all..)

Do you think we'll actually get lucy/Ghoul in canon? Their dynamic is so intriguing to me if they actually give it to us I will perish but I don't think they will.

I am not really sure because on one hand they already started with the Max and Lucy stuff so it seems like they want something with that. And it would be a safer option for them in terms of like not getting criticized.

But I also know that Jonothan Nolan has also worked on Westworld that has a character dynamic that seems to be VERY similar to Ghoul and Lucy who I think at some point in the show are a couple (I haven’t seen the show anyone who knows feel free to correct me) like down to the aesthetic and some shots of them that are almost exactly the same.

Overall I could see it going either way but I don’t think it is a 100% ‘No’ because it’s obvious the writers and directors at least see what they’re doing. You don’t write the red string of fait shit with their fingers on accident. Maybe they’ll have an enemies to lovers back to enemies arc if the show gets three seasons.

Edit: this is also not to say I don’t like Max and Lucy I actually do. I think they are cute together of course. But in my personal opinion the narrative possibilities for Lucy and Ghoul are much more interesting and fit the Fallout world way more. Im just an enjoyer of a good age gap ship that makes people mad. Also cause I think Max and Dane should kiss

Hmm, I suppose, roughly speaking, we tend to enjoy ships where the guy is either an idiot (who can either be clueless about girl’s feeling or can be a loyal dog) or a somewhat passive pushover who lets the girl to do whatever she wants even if he’s not happy about it. It’s not really a rule we keep in mind, it happens naturally with us. I guess that’s the dynamic that works for us in het ships.

We also love female characters that these ships offer very much. I think the fact that they are a nice way to showcase their personality and maybe give them character growth is a huge plus that makes the ship more compelling to us. Especially considering how many het ships just butcher female characters for a happily ever after.

Plus, if the ship is well-written and interesting enough, we usually don’t care whether it’s het or not. That being said, there are some ships that we would’ve enjoyed more if they weren’t het, maybe that makes us hypocrites haha.

Statues and Ghouls and Eerie Romances.

“You’re mad,” Jesse hissed. “You’re mad to come in he-”

“I’m not mad,” she breathed, joy at the sight of finding him in the manor threatening to tear her face apart. “I’m Lucie.” She held her hand out with a grin.

“Oh, Angel help me-” he groaned. He put his face in his hands and swore softly. Lucie only grinned more, happy to see him after nearly a week since she last saw him on the outskirts of Alicante. Which wasn’t odd. Jesse had nothing to do with her, no reason to visit her. And thus she was here, because he wasn’t there.

They were in a vast living room. Two grand staircases overtly covered with vines encircled the foyer, a dead fireplace adorning the centre of the establishment. There were rare antiques everywhere, all of them put to dust and disrepair. She took a step forward, in awe with the ambiance the entire house radiated. She had never been inside the house, save for the ballroom, and now that she was, she liked it. It looked like fiction had come true; she stared at the balconies that the upstairs lead to, instantly drawn to them. She kindled the witchlight with some hesitance, wary it would ruin the atmosphere. She thought she could glimpse something behind the statue that stood at the centre and stepped towards it. Cold air seeped at her wrists.

“Why, why is it exactly that you’re here?”

“Oh, don’t be so disappointed in me,” she waved him off, still captivated by her surroundings. “I’m here for many things. First, I love the Gothic ambiance your house radiates,” she said, enchanted with the way the witchlight reflected off the chandelier at the top. “Though this doesn’t seem like the most humane place to live, if I am being honest. It is an interesting house.”

She turned to face him with a smile and was met with a steely glare, sharp as a blade. Under the darkness and the hollows spaces between her fingers through which the witchlight peeked, his eyes were gloriously green. She could see traces of black in them now and wondered if they had been there before; they hadn’t, right? They were always alive and green. “Lucie,” he said determinedly. “Why are you here?”

“Isn’t there a better place to talk? It’s awfully chilly in here.”

“Your mistake for not bringing a cloak,” he pointed. Anger surfaced his features even now but his tone wasn’t as cold as it had been before.

She was still glancing around her in awe: it matched her imagination of the Castle of Otranto, though it wasn’t as deadly as the book. Lucie didn’t want to press her luck though; she had only come to see Jesse and now that she had, she didn’t know what she was going to speak about. She tried devising a plan and imprudently said at the same time he spoke- “Can you show me-”

“Do you nee-”

She paused, her gaze fixed on his. When she was sure he wasn’t going to continue, she gave him a smile and said, “Well, go on. What were you saying?”

“I asked if you needed a cloak. I can show you Grace’s room; you can borrow one perhaps,” he offered. “Though I do doubt it will fi- nevermind,” he blushed. Ghosts couldn’t blush but with the way he looked down at the floor, eyes cast away, she was confident he was. “Do you need the cloak?”

Lucie thanked him, but denied. “Kind of you, though I think I am perfectly fine without one.”

“If you ask me-”

“Which I didn’t,” Lucie interjected.

Jesse glared. “-I would suggest you to borrow one. You said it was cold.”

Ghosts couldn’t feel or touch, Lucie noted, especially in this form that Jesse manifested. “No cloak. I’m fine- can you show me the library?”

He shrugged. “I can, but I don’t see a reason why I should. Especially when you’re invading my home.”

Lucie scrunched up her face at the word ‘home’. “If you ask me-”

“Which I didn’t-”

Lucie tried to glare, but laughed instead. “I can still command you to show me the library,” Jesse’s face hardened at that, “which I won’t because I’m a good person and I am requesting you politely to take me to the library.”

“Lucie- By the Angel,” he swore again vehemently this time. Lucie considered pointing out that it was ungentlemanly to swear in front of a lady but was secretly amused at how distressed he was at her presence. “Do you not realize that it is dangerous here? There’s demons- God.” He looked up at the ceiling as if demanding the heavens why he was feeling whatever it was he was feeling.

“I’ll tell you why I’m here on the way to the library,” she offered.

Jesse gave up and gave her a long look. He sighed then, anger completely vanishing from his fine face as he gestured for her. “Come along. It’s upstairs. You’re certain you don’t need a cloak?”

Lucie shook her head and turned to follow him. She took one last look at the ghoulish statue that seemed to share her amusement. She raised an eyebrow at it interrogatively; the statue didn’t reply, of course. “Have you ever kissed anyone?”

“What?”

Jesse’s incredulity was priceless. Lucie shrugged and pointed him to the statute. “It looks like it wants to.”

A moment of silence. Then two. Then three. And ten. Jesse peered the statue and then, surprising Lucie and the statue too, he threw his head back and laughed. Lucie’s smile grew; it occurred to her how she had never heard him laugh and now that she did, she admitted she liked the way he laughed; amused and contented as if nothing else in the world mattered then than laughing in that moment.

“Oh, Lucie,” he sighed, finally smiling and leading the way up the stairs. “Please tell me why you’re here.”

“Tell me about the ghoul first-”

Jesse snorted. “Odd of you to think I’d kiss a ghoul. It’s the statue of- ah, I’ve forgotten.”

“Perhaps you should pay more attention to the statues that look like they want to kiss you.”

Jesse laughed again. Lucie was smiling, suddenly shy. Where had this confidence come from? “Perhaps you should stop paying attention to the statues that you claim look like they want to kiss me.”

“I wouldn’t blame the- nevermind.” She blushed. What on earth? “I came here to see you.”

Jesse came to a standstill. “What?”

“For someone who claims to read a lot of books,” she said dryly, “Your vocabulary is very limited. You haven't come to the institute since I last saw you near the mausoleums. Besides,” she added, “Like I have mentioned before, I came here for many things. I wanted to take a look at your library and explore for books that may contain references to my odd power.”

“I hear the Institute has an exalting library.”

Lucie glowered at him sideways. “I know the Institute has a grand library, but given your grandfather’s odd dealings with demons and what not, I’m certain I shall find worthy material here. The more I know,” she pointed, breathless a bit with how the roof expanded even more above them, “the better.”

Once at the top of the staircase, Lucie beheld the view. She felt like a royalty who was peering at the visitors assembled near the door. Ahead of them was a strange corridor with long and rounded windows from which moonlight spilled. It took Lucie a ton of effort to not look away and admire the Ivy that penetrated through the walls from the windows savagely. It resembled Sleeping Beauty’s castle more than the Castle of Otranto. The entire place reeked of misadventure and risk. Lucie liked that.

Jesse considered her. “I know we are oddly bound,” he started, looking to where she was gazing at the intricate designs on the pillars that walked a path towards the balcony that Lucie had been admiring earlier. “But you could summon me whenever you want my help. Instead of coming here.”

“I didn’t ask for your help,” she said. “Yet. You say we are oddly bound and I do not disagree. You say you want to help yet are recoiled at my presence here. You-”

“That’s because there’s demons here- !”

“All right then,” she glared at him. “Where will you be vanishing then? I suppose you’re going to live in this tumbledown excuse of a house?”

Jesse shrugged, still not meeting her eyes. “I will have things to do.”

Lucie put her arms on her hips and tilted her head questioningly. “I’d like to know what strange trysts you have to attend in the middle of all nights.”

“I don’t-” he looked at his feet, a small smile on his lips. “What are you trying to say?”

Jesse looked up. Lucie felt her breath catch suddenly for a reason she couldn’t put a finger on. “I need your help,” she said slowly, “and I want us to work together in helping me understand my powers, despite you telling me I’m good on my own.”

“You can still be perfectly fine on-”

She narrowed her eyes, recovering from her past reverie, effectively shutting him up. “You are welcome at the institute whenever you please, as long as you are unseen and undisturbing. It’s rather unbearable to think of this place as a home,” she mimicked the face of a person ready to throw up. How could anybody live here?

“And you can’t disagree,” she warned lightheartedly, falling in step with him as he motioned towards the rightward passage, “because I can command you.”

“Oh, freedom,” Jesse grieved. They left the traces of their laughter behind as they marched to the library.

Hey all! I'm new to the self shipping community and I'm a little nervous but also  really excited to meet some new people and to follow some cool new blogs!

I'm actually really excited to be starting this! For the longest time I've held back because I had it in my mind that I'm weird and things like this aren't normal, but seeing so many people openly share the same feelings and thoughts as I has cast a little bit of that doubt aside. Hello! Thank you for the ask! 😊😊 

Favorite character: Nakajima Atsushi, Izumi Kyouka, Lucy Maud Montgomery (sorry I can’t pick between them at all) 

Atsushi: His determination is the one thing I really love about him. His trust in his friends and co-workers. Him being timid and a cry-baby are also really lovable aspects of him

Kyouka: Super sweet and cute! When it comes down to business, she’s rational and can pull her own weight.  (gif edit sums up everything I love about her actually)

Lucy: Her proud personality. She being bashful is also something I die over, because it’s so cute

I’ll round it up with this: all three of them are not unique (clearly) and they have similar backgrounds but I love the way they’re changing for the better because of someone’s influence. (yes it’s probably why I can’t decide between them) Clearly, I have a type when it comes to liking characters LOLOL 

Most relatable character: Miyazawa Kenji

Naivety level is close to his actually and I always think the best of people. Easily amazed by new stuff LOL 

Most underrated character: Louisa May Alcott

Her ability is one of the best in the entire series, and her loyalty to Fitz. Considering how her plans almost destroyed Yokohama, and how she helped Fitz up onto his feet again, I’m surprised at how little development she has been given.

Most overrated character: Nakahara Chuuya

Yes, short hot boy with a temper is very cool and all, but I don’t really get the hype over him. (tbh I heard of Chuuya even before I know of the series)

Least favorite character: Jouno, but Mori is a close runner up 

Jouno is interesting and all but I dislike the way he treats his squadmates. The way he treated Tecchou honestly … In short, I just don’t like his attitude when it comes to people and relationships. Mori, when he starts being a pedo trumps this though. 

Favorite pairing: Atsushi x Kyouka (when Kyouka becomes of age) 

The immense support they have for each other and how they look out for each other. Needless to say, they care for each other alot ^^ 

Least favorite pairing: Mori x Elise (dk whether this exists but Mori x Yosano is my major NOTP)

Because Mori and young girls are a pedophilic ship. Period.

Favorite part/moment: Quite a few actually and they will only be in S3! 

Won’t go into too much details to avoid spoilers, but the upcoming sskk matchup and the meeting between kyouka and akutagawa. 

My favourite part from what’s been aired is a close runner up, but yes essentially this fight between them, because of how Atsushi sticks so strongly to his beliefs and Akutagawa’s annoyance at it, pretty much highlights the animosity between them. 

Least favorite part/moment: Err… well Dead Apple, the cursed scene with Dazai and Chuuya. 

Because it reeks super badly of fanservice and imho, it is not something Chuuya and Dazai would do in manga canon. 

What about it got my attention: Literary figures

It was quite a few years back already, but I think it was the plot and the fact that the story was referencing literary figures. I wanted to read it and see how the mangakas would use the literary figures in the plot. Also because I heard Akutagawa’s Rashomon resembled kagunes (from tokyo ghoul) 

What about it kept my attention: Characterization 

I absolutely love the way Asagiri-sensei has been developing the characters. Imo, with the relatively big cast in the story, I think Asagiri-sensei has been showing us how the characters have grown since they’ve been first introduced through the introdution of their backstories. 

Overall opinion: Absolute love! 

Plot and characterization are all really solid! It’s easily one of the best series I’ve picked up and it has a really special place in my heart. Studio Bones has done a pretty decent job in its animation as well.

What is your favorite part of each of your OTPs relationships?

Oh gosh wow, nice follow-up question! I’m internally screeching because I get to think about what I love about my precious ships aaaa

- Sora/Kairi (Kingdom Hearts)They’re each others light - her heart literally hid within his for like the whole of the first game, and when he found out the only way to release it was to stab himself with a keyblade he just went and did it. Their sort of ‘they’re meant to be together, but circumstances just keep them apart’ destroys me in all the best ways. I just want my babies to be happy toget h e r

- Yuna/Tidus (Final Fantasy X)They fall in love so slowly and so genuinely that by the end of the game I was literally weeping because they both fall hard. Their chemistry was beautiful, because it happened over the course of the whole narrative, really building up how much Yuna wants to be with him, only making it more heartbreaking when they have to be split apart. And that k i s s 

- Kaneki/Touka (Tokyo Ghoul)Cold, badass falls in love with local depressed-nerd-turned-ghoul. While I don’t root for these two as much as I might if their interactions were a bit better written, I still love the idea that because he cared for her it opened up her heart and made her able to love again.

- Venom/Eddie (Venom movie)I love them so. much. Eddie is literally made up of sunshine but he is a walking disaster and his life is like a dumpster fire. Venom, a self-proclaimed loser, falls in love with him after like one(1) day,,, and decides he can’t let his race destroy the earth because Eddie lives there. While Venom actually ends up improving Eddie’s quality of life so he can Function Like A Regular Person. Their chemistry and banter is 10/10

- Madoka/Mami (Madoka Magica)Two sweet summer children together - it’s so cute. Madomami is the ship of tooth rotting fluff that just makes me smile whenever I see art or read fics of them together. They’re both supportive and kind and, ok, not a real reason, but their colour palette aesthetic is so pretty too - yellow and pink, sign me up.

- Kyo/Tohru (Fruits Basket)Grumpy cat and actual angel fall in love, the series. My childhood otp. I loved the way that her feelings for him brought him out of his shell and his feelings for her made him more gentle. Like falling in love with her melted him slowly. Pure. Wholesome.

- Soul/Maka (Soul Eater)They’re both badasses but neither of them are good with Feelings, and they’re emotionally constipated. Like, you know that they’ve got great chemistry and they’re perfect for each other, but they just dance around their feelings constantly like the oblivious losers they are. 

- Steve/Claire (Resident Evil)Steve is a massive dork, and is probably way out of Claire’s league, but boy is he gonna try and win her over anyway. Bad news is that he Doesn’t Know How To Flirt and ends up insulting her, whining at her and being a Nuisance like a 5 year old. Until it counts and he sacrifices himself for her - I cried like a baby.

- Cloud/Aerith (Final Fantasy VII)Another stoic badass falls in love with sunshine. (I like alot of those kinds of ships?) I wish they’d had more time to develop their relationship in canon, but when she had to go I still felt it through my heart for poor Cloud. Like, they could have been beautiful together.

- Ling/Lan Fan/Greed (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood)An OT3? An OT3. I love every combination of these 3. Ling’s the No Impulse Control, Greed is the No Impulse Control (But Illegal) and Lan Fan is the only one to try and keep them both in line. Beautiful.

- Natsu/Lucy (Fairytale)They. should. have. got. together. it’s. so. practically. canon.

Hello! I live and I'm drawing more. :) Sorry I haven't sent an ask through in a while. So here we go: List your current top 5 ships and a headcanon you have for each.

Heyyyy ! ^o^)/ Good to see you! Sorry it’s taken me a couple of days to reply to this (omg tough decisions) Thanks for sending me a message!~

1. Klance (Keith x Lance - Voltron)- Lance is extremely untidy and ends up with a floor-drobe very easily (you can’t see his floor for the clothes when it gets really bad ‘it’s totally ORGANISED CHAOS babe’) while Keith is like super tidy and organised and everything has its place. They have good natured banter about it (Lance sometimes deliberately rearranges Keith’s space for fun) (Keith organises Lance’s space and tidies things away so well Lance can’t find anything)

2. Van x Hitomi - Escaflowne- Hitomi graduates from high school and finds a way back to Gaea (fight me on this). They p.much live happily ever after as King and Queen of Fanelia. Van uses his wings and carries Hitomi over their kingdom at night alot, because he grows to be a massive romantic.

3. Touken / Kanetou (Kaneki x Touka - Tokyo Ghoul)- Touka and Kaneki spar to keep each other in good physical shape, but they don’t hold back and their training sessions can get really intense (and usually end in passionate kissing) (‘You can’t kiss me and think that you can distract me from that weak ass kick you just made’ ‘…. I can try’)

4. Nalu (Natsu x Lucy - Fairy Tail)- Lucy is the ON L Y person that Natsu will allow to wear his scarf. On a lazy cold day Lucy will spend literally the whole day in her pajamas wrapped up with Natsu’s scarf around her neck. It smells like him. (Natsu loves seeing her like that like om g give him strength)

5. Greedfan (Greed x Lan Fan - Fullmetal Alchemist)- (using this headcanon) Greed starts being a bad influence on Lan Fan and she starts swearing (though it’s under her breath) when she gets annoyed, and she is usually very stoic and formal but is suuuuper sassy and sarcastic to Greed. He loves it. (She got a secret Ouroboros tattoo on her hip in a moment of reckless abandon that she blames on his influence also.)
