I’m curious to how they would react to my character who is like a mini version of slenderman in a way yet if angered can be just as big and dangerous. Here is two pictures showing normal look vs their larger form. (Btw the guy is their proxy) you can choose whoever to respond to this!😊

//Notes about this character from the creator: “Anon tends to roam freely in forests but sometimes goes to watch people as it reminds them of their human childhood. They are only 18. Anon isn’t the kind to do anything bad but tries to avoid making a mass murder when they are feral and hungry, their proxy is actually their boyfriend but somehow managed to get a proxy side out of him. They mainly try to fit in as best as possible with people but as Anon is young and struggles with control it creates problems. When they meet others like them, pastas or creatures they try to make friends as they struggle with friendship. Other than that they are Normally rather friendly and a little shy but protective and dangerous if angered, hurt or if anyone tries to badly injure their proxy. Their normal height is 5’9 but in monster form it can range from 9’11 in a house to 15 foot outside. An interesting fact though, their proxy bf was actually suicidal but they saved him with friendship that slowly became love.”

Pasta Reactions:

Slenderman: Initial reactions will be confusion and worry. He and the other two slenders should be the only entities like this in the mortal realm; he’d be confused on how this came to be and worried about what they plan to do. The new entity would likely be under close observation by himself, the other slenders, and/or the proxies if deemed appropriate until it was confirmed that no threat is present.

Trenderman: Like Slenderman, he’d be concerned...especially considering all that happened with Offenderman way back when. He would be wary of this newcomer and subconsciously be ready to strike should they turn out to be another rogue entity.

Splendorman: Like his brothers, Splendor would have some concerns. However, he’s also be curious and trusting as he normally is; he’s the slender that would be most likely to approach for a face-to-face conversation first, and he’d be the one who really sticks to the whole, ‘innocent until proven guilty’ mentality.

Masky: Oh my god, not another one. These words would be this proxy’s first thought on the matter. As someone who is already partially overwhelmed by the idea that three slender entities exist in the world, another one showing up - especially one that hasn’t yet been concretely determined ‘friend’ or ‘foe’ - would make him anxious...especially since the other slenders weren’t aware of their existence at first.

Hoodie: He’d be on high alert for a long while. After the whole mess with Offenderman in the past, he’s not happy with the idea of another slender entity. He’d be extremely cautious and would be in perfect agreement with his partner when Masky suggests keeping good distance and avoiding the new one.

Toby: If he catches sight of the newcomer before someone tells him to be aware of them, it’s likely he’ll end up debating with himself whether this is a hallucination or not. Part of him will say that if there’s a new slender, his boss would’ve said something so this can’t be real; and another part of him would say that normally when he’s hallucinating he doesn’t question whether what he’s seeing is real or not, so he must be lucid. He won’t interact unless it’s necessary and his first move would be to find Masky or Hoodie and talk to them about it to try and validate his experience as real or imaginary.

Kate: In all honesty, Kate comes off as rude and cold to just about everyone, whether she knows them well or not and regardless of how she views them. She won’t actively try to approach, but she won’t go out of her way to avoid/observe either. If she crosses paths them, she’s just gonna keep walking past. If they try to interact, she’s gonna be the same Kate everyone else sees and behave with her callous attitude. Social situations are not her forte, which is why her main mission type is all the stuff that involves slaughter and leaving no witnesses.

Jeff: Jeff is gonna keep his distance. He doesn’t regularly interact with anyone but BEN, Smile, and the Puppeteer (and occasionally Liu or Nurse Ann) anyway; he’s not the type of guy to go making new friends or poking his nose where he feels it doesn’t belong. If he sees something from the newbie that’s cause for concern, he may report it to Slenderman just to be sure nobody innocent is in danger.

Liu/Sully: Oh, heck no. Liu has made a deal with Zalgo in the past; Zalgo and the Slenderman may not be bitter enemies anymore, but he still has an instinctual reluctance to go anywhere near something that seems like a slender. This is one of the few things that Liu and Sully agree on - if they run into this guy by mistake, Liu is gonna let Sully handle it, and Sully (much like Kate) ain’t gonna play nice.

Jane: She’d defer to Eyeless Jack. Jane will be the first to admit that she is terrible at reading into other people and their intentions, so she would ask her trusted demon friend (who is a notoriously good judge of character) for his opinion on the new entity. She won’t be overtly rude or cruel if she runs into them, but she’ll be fairly untrusting until either Jack or her own observations of solid proof that they’re an okay individual lead her to loosen up a little around them.

Clockwork: She’s pretty much gonna be with Jane on this one. Slender entities are known to be powerful and intimidating and their motives are never completely clear at first. Unless she has solid evidence that they can be trusted or someone she already trusts decides to vouch for them, she’s not gonna get all buddy-buddy here.

Eyeless Jack: As stated, he’s known to be a good judge of character thanks to his demonic instincts. Also, since he is unable to see people as we do, he’s not taking his impressions of people from how they look; his sense of who someone is comes from their actions and emotional responses to everything. He’s also naturally introverted, though, as you would expect from a demonic doctor. At first meeting, Jack wouldn’t be on guard or untrusting like the others but he wouldn’t be super friendly, either. He’d kinda be neutral like he is with innocent strangers unless a friendship formed over time like it has with Jane, Clockwork, and Nathan.

Nathan the Nobody: Nathan naturally prefers to isolate himself. The only pastas he’s willing to visit and hang out with are Eyeless Jack and sometimes Jeff because those two helped save his life in the past; he’s started warming up to Jane and Clockwork because they’re usually there with Jack when Nathan shows up to the MedLab, but he’s not interested in conversing or spending time with anyone else. Long story short, he won’t interact without a damn good reason. If they cross paths, he’s just gonna ignore them and keep walking unless that option becomes impossible.

Laughing Jack: Our favorite monochrome clown admittedly doesn’t spend much time in the mortal realm, and when he’s here he’s not hanging out in the woods. The chances of him meeting the newcomer are slim, but he’s likely to hear about them from Candy Pop (because his jester friend seems to know everything about new creeps). If they ever did come across each other, it’s unlikely Jack would stay long unless the new slender managed to do something to really pique his attention.

Candy Pop: Perhaps the only one that would actively attempt to seek out and converse with the newcomer. Pop has no sense of shame or fear, so even if the new slender’s intentions aren’t known he’ll still let his curiosity guide him to interact with them in order to gain more information about who they are and possibly make a new connection to add to his network. If he determined that no threat was present and this person seems entertaining, he’d likely be willing to spread that conclusion to those he knows and possibly introduce them to pastas he’s closer to.

Candy Cane: Unless the newcomer gets in her way somehow, they aren’t likely to have an extended interaction. Candy Cane hangs out with the other Carny Pastas and is alright spending time with others who happen to be in the same area; however, she’s not a social butterfly like her brother and spends most of her free time home at the Candy Circus or with Jack and company at the clown’s carnival. If they run into each other, it’s likely while she’s on her way to do something so she’ll give a quick, ‘yeah, hi, how are you, gotta run, bye’ and not pay anymore mind to it unless it seems to post some type of problem for her.

Jason the Toymaker: Just as Jane would turn to Eyeless Jack for insights into the new person, Jason would ask the Puppeteer for his opinion before doing anything. He’d be wary of letting the newcomer anywhere close to the children he works with until he had a confirmation that this entity wouldn’t be a threat to them.

The Puppeteer: Like Eyeless Jack, the Puppeteer is an excellent judge of character thanks to his natural power of empathy. He’s also not worried about a potential threat unless he sees proof that he should be worried; he’d be willing to have an extended interaction, so long as he had the time for it between visits with those he’s counseling. The Puppeteer is a naturally calm and friendly entity, so the interaction would go well assuming the newcomer also remained calm and friendly.

Helen: Not unfriendly or cold, but naturally distant and uninterested in things like this unless there’s direct consequences in his or Dina’s life as a result. Helen will be cordial and fairly quiet around the newcomer as he is with most people, but it’s unlikely he’ll think of them as friend material because he knows Dina doesn’t like new people and she’s with him most of the time.

Dina: As stated, she doesn’t like new people. She seem rude or irritated if she runs into the new slender, or she may just pretend they aren’t there - it depends where she’s at with her mood and how the situation plays out. Repeated attempts to interact with her (regardless of whether or not there are positive intentions behind the attempts) will make her angry and may even provoke her to attack. When she says, ‘leave me alone’, it’s in everyone’s best interests to do so.

Kagekao: Kagekao would be curious more than anything. He wouldn’t be as carefree as Candy Pop and attempt to engage in conversation immediately, but he would stalk them for a while and likely pull a couple harmless pranks to gauge their reaction. If they get angry over the minor inconveniences he causes, he probably won’t stick around long.

Nurse Ann: She doesn’t run into other pastas much unless they are specifically trying to seek her out. If she crosses paths with them, she’ll be pretty neutral about it as she is with most. If she doesn’t have business with you, she doesn’t see a reason to stick around - she won’t be rude or dismissive, but she won’t be that talkative or social, either.

Hobo Heart: He gone fly away. Hobo Heart is a complete loner, totally antisocial in all circumstances. He’s just gonna go somewhere else if he comes across this guy, or anyone, really.

BEN: He’d start looking for information, first and foremost. He likes to be prepared to interact with new entities and learns all he can about them before making contact of any sort. If the Internet yields no information he can use, his next step is to consult Candy Pop due to the fact that the jester has an uncanny ability to uncover uncommon knowledge (and also because BEN knows the Pop would likely have been the first to interact with them).

Sally: She’s gonna stay away. Unless you’re a sick p*dophile that she needs to dispose of or someone that’s been introduced to her by a trusted friend (such as Masky) she automatically assumes you’re a potential threat...especially if you appear to have power like a Slender would wield.

Lacy: Keeps to herself anyway. I doubt there’d be much interaction here.

Lazari: Like the Slenders and proxies, she’d be concerned about a new Slender entity thanks to the Offenderman issues that occurred in the past (way to ruin it for everybody, Offender - ya goddamn serial r*pist). She’d observe and start trying to get a lock on how powerful this entity is, in hopes that she could eat them if they ever showed intentions of causing problems.

I think that’s all the pastas on here so far. Keep in mind, Slender entities are known by the creeps as being the strongest among them...a new entity of that caliber that nobody knows anything about isn’t likely to immediately be seen as an ally by many of the pastas. They’ll be regarded as a potential threat until proven otherwise (again, mostly thanks to the experience they’ve all had with the rogue slender years ago). //

Thank youuuu!! I have a soft spot for it, too, which is why, oh boy, I went overboard on this reply. So I am definitely putting in a read more and venture forward at your own cluttered risk!

2. Which scene was your favorite to write in eghe?

Some of them I really liked writing because I they were centerpiece scenes that I basically had all the dialogue laid out for ahead of time, so it was easier to sort of just fill in the rest, like the meeting Dave’s family dinner, or when Klaus and Dave have their big fight.

Some I really liked because I didn’t anticipate them existing and then, hello! there they were! and cute and fun, like Rachel teasing Dave about Klaus, and the two of them baking and talking about homophobic dads after, and Diego meeting Dave. Dave going off on Reg was also not a way I thought things would go there and ‘cute and fun’ is not how I would describe it but oh MAN was it satisfying to write.

6. Which scenes did you cut, and which were added in eghe?

ooohh it stayed surprisingly intact, actually! One of the curses that plagues me as a writer is I basically have to write each scene in order, and then things sort of settle in, with scenes leading one to the next in ways I don’t tend to mess around with.

But I pulled out the docs and looked at notes for it, which honestly is where this all went wrong because I have A Lot Of Notes for it. The scene that probably got the biggest changes is in chapter two, where Dave shares about how the afterlife works and that the ghosts Klaus sees on earth are the bad bits that get left out of the afterlife.

So it never made it onto the page, but this was the scene where they decided that they needed a name for this afterlife and they settle on Peace, as in the spirits there are at peace.

And anyway, I always need to know everything that everyone on the page is thinking when I write, so when Klaus learns about the spirits on earth mainly being the worst parts of people’s souls, I have a note about what’s on his mind: “not only is this a ‘here is why your life is so fucking shitty - solved it’ moment, which sucks, but also I think he’s conflating things a bit and possibly over the top self-pityingly toying with the idea that he keeps getting kicked out because allll of him is the worst of humanity. it’s not an entirely consistent idea, but when he wants to feel really shitty, he dabbles in the notion.”

ALSO in that scene, I have the only chunk of properly written stuff I found that was cut but still saved. I took it out because it seemed like it dipped into too much confusing plot stuff and made the timing weird and it just didn’t work there but - Klaus realizes that with ghosts basically able to time travel, a person or organization could quite effectively change timelines, as long as they had Klaus around to talk to said ghosts for them. (and maybe it was a backdoor idea for a fic that could exist, I don’t know) But anyway here’s a version of what that conversation looked like:

Then the magnitude of this new angle hits him. “This is a lot, Dave. Holy shit. This is turning out to be a lot.” “Too big to mess with.” Dave has had plenty of time to think this over already, and that’s the conclusion he came to as well. “Did you know, there’s a whole group of time-traveling cops who make sure that nothing changes the timeline too much?” Obviously Dave did not know about that. ‘The world got weird’ is turning out to be a greater understatement than he could ever have imagined. “Whatever that even means,” Klaus goes on. “‘Cops’ is actually too sanitized a word, probably. There’s no way they know about this. If they knew that I - I don’t know what they would do. Jesus.” Klaus is slipping into that long distance stare that means he is circling in on a freak-out. “That’s got to stay a state secret, Dave, that can’t be a thing people find out. I can come up with too many ways to exploit that just off the top of my head and I’m the world’s biggest idiot; I’m not half as devious as some of these motherfuckers.” Dave steadies Klaus’ knee as it starts to bounce compulsively. “I’m not going to tell anyone.” The question is unsaid, because they both know the answer, but Klaus flicks his eyes to Dave’s to check anyway before he says it out loud. “Because we’re not going to do anything to save you.”

There’s a part of me that wants to share a little not really written moment from the fic I probably won’t ever write where we get to see Klaus’ side of what happened through all of the fic, but this post is already so stupid long. (maybe I’ll make another post just to spill on that? because I really don’t think the fic is ever going to be written)

10. What are some facts readers may not know about eghe?

So since I went combing through notes, I’m just going to paste in some of the maybe interesting ones here. Most are like, half sketches of a dialogue that never found a spot, but there’s a headcanon and a Thought in there, too.

When Klaus finds out that they just can kind of see each other/be seen as however he wants, he’s appalled with modern religion. “How did modern religion get so hung up on sex? This place is kinky as hell!” (Hm word choice ha)

it cracks him up that he is having this ‘who is older’ argument with his bf and it’s just as nonsensical as it always is with his siblings and that shouldn’t be possible

an unwritten piece of Vanya’s book: “sometimes she wonders if maybe he doesn’t even have powers either, if he’s like her but managed to lie about it early enough to get included. You cant ever see his powers and he never did anything useful with them and he always lied, even about big things like Ben. Maybe he lied about this all this time”

Klaus leaves doors open because a closed door can’t stop a ghost anyway, and he at least likes to know when they are coming.

So anyway just so we’re clear, the subtext story of this whooole thing is about how Dave is carrying around this fear of being unlovable because of gay reasons, which are ridiculous and he learns to set himself free partially due to the ways Klaus shows him that there isn’t nothing wrong with that. Klaus is carrying around this fear of being unlovable because of personality reasons, which are also unfounded and he’s going to learn to set himself free due to the ways Dave shows him that there’s nothing wrong with him. Basically they have the same anxieties, but Dave’s are tied to sexuality and Klaus’ are not. Still about feeling like inherently bad people because of outside influences telling them that they are.

regarding the Diego meeting Dave scene: “Which, good job talking about your feelings, Diego! Klaus might (semi-)jokingly tell him this. Because they are both in therapy. Klaus wasn’t going to go unless Diego did, too.Also, his reaction at first when his doc was like, ‘yeah you’re depressed’ was “if that’s depression than I’ve been depressed for years. Longer than I haven’t” and the response is just 😬😬”

Seeing the Ben apologists already saying how good it is to see a change in the dynamics with Callum being the one keeping secrets and lying, so you know he can't have a go at Ben for that in the future, and I agree it's good were finally getting Callum's point of view and we are seeing him be tested in ways he hasn't before, but let's not totally ignore that he's been placed in that position by Ben himself.

I definitely agree! Most of the reason why I'm interested in this new story line is 1) it gives tony clay something to do and 2) it really emphasizes Callum's own emotions and his own moral compass which haven't really been explored yet, and some really interesting ideas can come out of that--the decision Callum had to make in the last few episodes were really interesting in ways he usually just isn't, since he had to choose between trust and someone not just HE loves but other people love, and even though trust means everything in the world to Ben and the mitchell family, Callum decided on the latter option and I'm interested to see the consequences and for Ben to realize just what kind of a position he forced Callum into.

And yeah, Ben DOES deserve at least a shred of responsibility here. He made a reckless decision based off of his insecurities (that we never got to address, yayyy) and then lied to his bf abt it, which then tumbled down as the consequences to Ben and Phil's actions come to fruition. Ben was trying to please his dad, which is something even Callum points out IN THE SHOW when he stated that most of this was PHIL'S FAULT since Ben doesn't really want to do crime but will do anything to get on his father's good side. And that's also part of the interesting dillemma here--ultimately, Ben did break into the warehouse, so shouldn't he suffer the consequences? But if you have the power to protect someone you love from hardship and isolation, wouldn't you use it?

It's just those types if questions that keep my interest for when the big climax happens and Ben and Callum fight abt it and maybe having Ben realize just how much his actions hurt himself and Callum and everyone around him. There's a possibility for good discussions and ideas, and even if its buried under the pile of mafia crime lord Phil centered shenanigans that I hate, I think that interesting plot thread is worth it. At least for now.

SERIOUS (Hargreeves Siblings)

Request: Hey so if you have the time, can you do a imagine where the UA finds out their youngest sibling has a bf/gf and their reaction. Especially Klaus and Diego. Btw love your writing💕

A/N: hiii so the reader in this one shot isn’t going to be younger since to be their sibling, they have to be born on the same day but they’ll view the reader as the youngest of the bunch!! Also, I’m trying to make this as gender neutral as I can but I apologise in advance if I fuck up :///

“Okay,” you let out a nervous sigh, “I have gathered you all here today to tell you something.”

Allison gives you a warm smile. “You can tell us anything.” She assures you, a slight nod.

Doubts flow through your head. Not too sure about that.

Folding his arms, Diego looks you up and down. “What’d you do?”

“What?”

“What did you do, Y/N?” He repeats, giving you a doubtful look.

You let out an incredulous laugh, “Why do you assume I did something?”

He raises an eyebrow, “I’ve been your brother long enough to know that look. You’re in trouble.”

Klaus narrows his eyes at you, tilting his head slightly. “No, no. That’s not her trouble face...” he adds, eyeing you. You curse yourself, Klaus is really good at reading people, “That’s your guilty face.”

Allison’s concerned now, “What’d you do?”

“I did nothing!” You defend yourself, “Just sit down and shut up.”

Five nods, “Yeah I don’t have time for this.”

Klaus smirks a little, “Actually-”

“Say another time joke and I’ll end you.” Five glares at his brother before he can utter another pun and Klaus sits silently now, but with a smirk still etched onto his features.

This is going to be more difficult than you thought. “Go ahead,” Luther states, gesturing for you to continue what you were saying.

You look at each of your siblings before you begin talking. “So,”

“You can’t be queer, that’s my brand.” Klaus interrupts, before quietly adding, “Just saying! Continue, please.”

“I’ve been keeping something from you all for a while.” You state solemnly, seeing everyone’s features shift to confusion. You’ve never kept anything from your siblings. Their minds all go to horrible places, thinking you must be in trouble to feel like you need to keep things from them. After all, they treat you like you’re the youngest sibling; they’re super protective and caring of you. “I’m seeing someone.”

Five takes a final sip from his coffee. He shouts three words of approval before teleporting away. “Congrats! What’s his/her name?”

“His/her name is ____.” You respond, watching him closely.

“They live around here?”

You give him a nod. Setting his coffee down loudly, Five shouts a few words before disappearing. “Great! See ya!” There’s no doubt in your mind that he’s gone to find the person you’re dating. Great.

Diego raises his brows, arms crossed. “How long?”

“2 months.”

“Two months?!” Diego stands, eyeing you, “All this time and you never said anything?”

You shake your head, “I wanted to know if it was serious.”

Klaus smiles, fondly remembering his first love. “Is it seriously?” He asks you, his face sweet and fond.

It makes a smile grow on your face too, “I think it might be!”

Allison squeals, rushing up to you, “That’s so exciting, Y/N!”

Luther watches Diego have a crisis and decides to try and calm him. “How long have you known each other?” He asks you.

You think about it, “Roughly around 4 months.” You answer, knowing Diego won’t think it’s enough. “You can meet him if you want?” You suggest.

Diego nods, “Hm. We will.”

Allison sits beside Vanya, who looks at you with a worried gaze. “He seems like he makes you happy, Y/N.” She states, trying not to project her own fears and experiences on to you. But it’s so hard. She cares about you so much and she doesn’t want the same thing that happened to her to happen to you.

You nod. “He does.”

Klaus fans himself comically, “Ooh! Does he now?”

Shoving him aside you let out a scoff, “Shut up.”

“Yeah, gross.” Diego replies, glaring at Klaus but then looking to you. His eyes widen. You watch him from a distance. “You haven’t...?”

“Are you really asking me that?” You just look at him, wondering why he’s acting like your dad when he’s your brother.

Klaus lays down, leaning his head on his hands. “Oh my god, after only four months!” Klaus jokes, knowing it’d stir the pot of tension in the room.

“Answer my question.” Diego continues his fatherly annoyance.

“No,” you reply, exasperated. “Like I said, I was still figuring out if it was serious.”

Diego gives you a frustrated gesture, “Okayyy but it’s serious now?”

You look down, mumbling “I don’t know...”

Allison stands, “Enough with the interrogation. Pretty sure you started younger than Y/N.”

“You guys keep forgetting I’m the same age as you.” You note, sharing a look with Vanya who just nods in agreement.

“True.” Klaus replies, sitting up with a shrug, “But now it’s like you've grown!”

You’re about to laugh but a distant shout comes from the kitchen. “What the hell?” Diego mumbles, leading the group and rushing to where the noise came from.

“Oh my god.” You utter, seeing Five and your partner in the kitchen. “What the hell, Five?!”

“Oh, hi, guys.” He smiles as if there’s nothing wrong with finding your partner and teleporting him to meet your whole family.

Your/Partners/Name (Y/P) looks to you, his/her eyes wide and shocked. “I mean... I knew you liked me but this seems a bit excessive, Y/N.” He/she states, looking around.

Your eyes are just as wide as Y/P’s and you share an apologetic look with them. Diego brushes past you, stretching a hand out to them. “Let me introduce myself, I’m Diego. Her brother.”

“The one with the knives, right?” Y/P smiles, shaking his hand confidently, “Nice to meet you!”

Diego seems caught off guard at the fact that Y/P isn’t intimidated. But you had previously told them everything they needed to know about your family.

Vanya smiles next, speaking up awkwardly, “I’m Vanya. I’m glad to meet you but I’m sorry it’s under these circumstances.”

Y/P shrugs, “I’m not.”

It goes on like this: everyone greeting them. Y/P responding perfectly each time.

Luther nods, “I’m Luther.”

“Hi!”

“Allison. Good to meet you, Y/P.”

“Likewise!”

“I’m Klaus,” Klaus states, walking up to Y/P and eyeing them. “This is Ben.” He states, gesturing beside him.

Y/P nods with a smile, looking to Klaus and beside Klaus, “Hi, Klaus. Hello, Ben.”

Klaus hums, sharing a look with the empty space beside him Ben. They both seem to be okay with Y/P. Everyone does, in fact. Which raises suspicions slightly but calms you down greatly.

“Five, are you going to introduce yourself?” You wonder, looking at the young boy who hasn’t taken his eyes off of your partner the entire time; analysing and memorising each and every intricate reaction he makes. There’s no way he’s letting you get hurt like Vanya did.

“He knows who I am.” Five replies simply, shoving his hands inside his pockets.

Your partner nods, slightly uncomfortable. “He gave me the whole interrogation before he teleported us here. And hey, teleportation is a thing apparently?”

Five narrows his eyes at them, wondering why he seems so calm about all their powers. He must’ve read about The Umbrella Academy; surely anyone who knows their names knows their story.

You shrug awkwardly, blushing as you look down, “Yeah, it is.”

You expect them to freak out but they don’t, they just smile at you with a blush of their own on their face. “Cool!” They respond with a laugh and you can’t help but both smile at one another.

“So it’s settled!” Lucy spoke giddily, clapping her hands in excitement, “Girls night!”

You couldn’t help but feel the same giddiness, after all, it was practically radiating off her. Tonight would be good! A nice, calm night in with your favorite girl in the world and nothing could mess that up.

Or so you thought.

You were in a slump.

It’s to be expected for you to be upset after a bad breakup, but you felt like pure, unadulterated dog shit every single second of your life. The only things that motivated you to get out of bed was filming, your cast-mates, and Lucy.

Ever since that one day at lunch, you and Lucy have been having at least one girl’s night a week, but usually it’s more than that.

And by “girls night” you mean playing a game where you drink as much alcohol as you can in a before you black out. Because as bad as it is, alcohol helps ease the sharp ache in your chest.

The sharp ache that shouldn’t even be there in the first place. Because he hurt you and made you upset more times than you could possibly count, you should be glad he was gone. But you weren’t. He should be the one that was hurting. But he wasn’t.

It probably isn’t helpful seeing all the pictures of him with new girls and people on instagram tagging you in pictures of the two of you together. It hurts to breathe, sometimes.

It’s crazy how you can pour you life and soul into someone for two years, and have it all go away in a second. Now he’s gone and he moved on, and you’re just… stuck.

And the worst part is you can’t help but blame yourself! You always blame how you dress, or act, or talk. And you just turn all the pain on yourself because you’re too in love with the person who actually hurt you to blame them. You’ll just lie in your bed all night, replaying everything in your head and thinking about just how bad you fucked up.

When Y/BF/N left, you had spent days being mad at yourself for overreacting. You had let yourself become a shell and allow yourself to believe you deserved it. And you still believed that, but you wouldn’t tell anyone about it.

But nonetheless, your friendship with Lucy was prospering due to the excessive amount of alcohol you now drink together, and you had these girl nights down to muscle memory. It was a lot of fun, a good way to unwind after a long day. And today was definitely one of the longest day of your life.

You got barely any sleep and had a 10 hour filming day. You were over everything. Especially people. You just wanted to cozy up in your bed with some wine and shitty snacks.

You’ve slept more in the past few weeks then you had in most of your life. You were emotionally tired, and you tried to make up for it for going to bed early and sleeping in late. But you were just… not present.

It’s been a few weeks since the breakup, and you’ve been trying to put up a front to get people to stop worrying, responding “I’m okay, I promise” when someone asks. You weren’t not okay, but you weren’t perfect either.

You felt like you could obliterate a tank physically, but mentally, one wrong word and you’d be sent headfirst into a painful nervous breakdown. And the fact that you were the reason that Rami had to redo the same take twenty seven times today. Twenty seven!

You were so out of it, you couldn’t remember your line or you’d literally forget you were filming halfway through. He was frustrated but he’s too nice to slap the shit out of you and tell you to get it together, like he should’ve done.

You had immediately collapsed on your bed as soon as you wrapped for the day, not even saying bye to the other guys. You took a thirty minute nap before you were awoken by your phone ringing rather loudly right in your ear. She must’ve recieved your text about how shitty your day was.

“Do you want me to bring rosé, white, or red?” Lucy asked enthusiastically into the phone, and before you said anything, she answered her own question. “Actually, I’ll bring all three. Plus the bottle of Bacardi I have leftover from my birthday. I’ll see you in 10. Hang in there babe. Mwah.”

Lucy hung up the phone, and you threw it back down onto the covers while leaning back against the headboard of the bed in your trailer. You already had a headache and you hadn’t had a drip of alcohol today, and your neck was slightly stiff due to the uncomfortable angle it was at while you had taken a nap.

Your mind drifted to filming, before your heart dipped lower in your chest as you suddenly seemed to remember the existence of Ben.

Ben.

And speak of the devil, a notification pops up on your phone screen. “benhardy just posted a photo.”

You had barely seen Ben all day, much less talked to him, and you weren’t really sure where you two stood. You loved being around him and spending time with him, but you were stuck. Literally. You had no idea what to do, or say, and Ben is really annoyingly good at sending mixed signals. He’s impossible to read.

The picture he posted was an old photo from a magazine cover shoot he did the year before. It was in black and white, and made your heart do a flip. You groaned at the effect that he had on you just by posting a dumb picture.

You had gone out to get coffee with him a few times since the incident, been on dinner duty with him (dinner duty is a term coined by Joe; it’s when two people are in charge of picking up the food the cast had ordered that night), but lately, you’ve both been oddly silent to each other.

You found yourself feeling normal when you were with Ben. The emptiness went away, it was like Ben filled your chest with a chocolatey warmth and that scared you. Because you didn’t want history to repeat itself.

You had been through enough pain and breakups to last you your entire life, you were sure of it. You had joked with Lucy that you’d adopt a baby and build a cottage in the forest and just become entirely self-sufficient. It was like a little fantasy of yours. Not having to rely on anything(or anyone) to live.

You weren’t sure if you wanted to pursue anything with Ben, or if he even felt anything other than friendship towards you. And you were so confused. You thought about texting him, before deciding against it and busying yourself with preparing for your girls night with Lucy.

For someone who you don’t see a lot during the day, you sure think about Ben a ton. And by “a ton” you mean all the damn time. It was frustrating, to say the least. You were thinking of him right fucking now!

Getting coffee? You’re thinking of Ben. Shooting a scene? Thinking of Ben. Writing songs? Thinking of Ben. Singing? You guessed it, thinking of Ben! It made you want to put your headphones in and play a song as loud as you could to try and push him out of your brain.

After the breakup, you couldn’t write a word for any song onto paper. But when you’re with Ben? You could write an entire concept album on the exact shade of green that his eyes were. And that annoyed you, but also confused you as to what exactly you were feeling.

You threw a package of pizza rolls into the microwave, grabbing some nail polish and face masks out of your small storage compartment near your bed. You doubted that you and Lucy would actually be sober long enough to use them, but it was worth a try.

Before you knew it, an enthusiastic knock was heard at the door, and it made your heart soar. You opened up to see your platinum-blonde haired best friend with a huge duffle bag full of clothes, alcohol, movies, and snacks. She was wearing a matching silk light pink pajama set, the exact same as yours, except blue. “Ready to get wasted babe?”

You laughed at Lucy’s comment and pulled her into a tight hug before ushering her into the trailer, locking the door behind you. She immediately started unpacking her bags and grabbed two glasses from the top cabinet and poured you both a completely full glass of wine.

You grabbed the pizza rolls and your wine glass and migrated over to your bed, setting the rolls down after downing three large gulps of wine. You and Lucy just made small talk about your day’s, Lucy asking you about filming that day.

“Okay, I want to make a toast.” Lucy murmured, clearing her throat dramatically before holding up her glass.

“To girls nights, and to… I don’t know, actually,” Lucy paused and bit her lip, “to really shitty wine, I guess.”

“Amen,” you agreed, lightly tapping Lucy’s glass with yours before downing another large portion of the wine.

When Lucy said you two were getting wasted, she wasn’t kidding. You had both finished two bottles of wines, and done a few shots of the old vodka Lucy had brought from home.

And you couldn’t see straight.

The room was slightly tilted and spinning, and your eyes felt incredibly heavy. You tried to go and grab a bag of snacks from the counter, but you almost fell over so you decided to stay seated on your bed. You and Lucy were starting to spew nonsense that made zero sense, but had you both crying in laughter.

You had also prank called Joe, but you failed miserably. He actually found your drunkenness quite humorous. You also took an instagram picture of you two drinking a glass of wine, and you captioned it “girlk nighy.” (You were a shit speller when you were sober, so being drunk really didn’t help)

The comments were quickly taken over with people laughing about your drunken state, and also telling you to be safe. Joe and Gwil both commented asking why they weren’t invited to the party, and right before you shut your phone off, you got another notification.

Ben liked the photo, but didn’t comment. It made your stomach flip, although that definitely could’ve been the alcohol. You wanted to scream and put your head through the wall, because someone liking your stupid instagram post shouldn’t make you feel like you’re gonna throw up.

Lucy decided that she wanted to watch Pretty Woman, so she put it on and dimmed the lights in the trailer, getting lost in the story. You had started crying almost as soon as Vivian met Edward, because you knew the rest of the story.

And you wished you had someone like that to love.

Lucy had put a video of you in tears on her instagram story, tagging you before returning to the movie. About halfway through, though, you both seemed to have passed out. The last thing you remember is a conversation between Edward Lewis and Vivian Ward lulling you to sleep.

You woke up a few hours later, the TV had turned itself off and you were still drunk.

Like, really, really drunk.

And your thoughts were irrational, but all you could think about was Ben. Lucy was laying next to you in your bed, dead asleep, but you just wished it was Ben who was there next to you, just like he did after the breakup. You wanted nothing more than to cuddle up in his arms and go to sleep. But you couldn’t.

You searched through your bed, trying to find your phone. After finally finding it hidden, Lucy’s body unfortunately laying on top of it, you opened the calling app and hesitated. Should you call Ben? You eventually decided that you didn’t have anyone else to talk to, so you did.

You dialed Ben’s number and crossed your fingers in front of you like a first grader, hoping that he’d still be awake at 4 am.

“At the tone, please record your message. If you are finished recording, please hang up or-”

You hung up the phone quickly, swearing under your breath. You dialed the phone number in again, listening to it’s painfully slow ringing. The anticipation was building up so much in your chest you could’ve burst.

“Y/N? Hello? Are you okay?” you heard a tired, yet confused British voice say. All the air in your lungs disappeared for a moment.

“Bennie!” you slurred, rolling over in bed and giggling like a schoolgirl at the sound of his voice. Ben chuckled tiredly at the nickname, clearly confused about what was going on.

“Are you okay?” Ben asked again. You almost said yes, as saying you were fine had become a habit of yours.

“Actually… I’m not really? I don’t even know what I’m saying right now.” Your words were a jumbled mess, and you heard Ben take a sharp inhale on the other end of the line.

“I hope you’re done drinking now?” You nodded quickly. Forgetting that he couldn’t see you, you then told him that yes, the alcohol was put away.

“I’ve just been thinking. A lot. Like, a lot.” You started to ramble, eliciting a tired chuckle from the blonde boy.

“Yes, that happens to be a common thing that humans do.” You wanted to punch him in the throat for being so sarcastic, yet smooth even at four in the fucking morning.

You could already tell you were going to regret saying anything to him, but your sober thoughts turned into drunk words way too fast and next thing you knew, you were spilling your heart out to Ben on the phone.

“You know? I’ve been fucked over a lot! A ton. So much. So so much,” you hiccuped lightly as you twisted a strand of hair around your finger, “and they all start and end the same way. I fall in love, he says he loves me, blah blah blah, we have sex in a car once or twice, a few months pass, and bam, he leaves me. And it’s always me who gets hurt. Why is it always me? What did I ever do to deserve that?”

Ben was eerily silent on the other end of the line, but to stop an awkward silence, you kept going.

“And everyone keeps asking me if I’m doing okay, if they need to go ‘beat him up for me’ and I always say I’m okay. Everytime. And I’m sick of it! I’m sick of pretending that he didn’t rip my heart out of my chest. Because he did, and I can’t sleep because every time I close my eyes I see him! And I can’t eat because it reminds me of all the times we’d go out to eat at 3am because we were bored. And I can’t drive because it reminds me of all the road trips we used to take to Venice to visit his cousin.”

There were tears streaming down your face, your words beginning to get jumbled. And you knew what was about to happen, but you didn’t have the mental capacity or willpower to try and stop it.

“And now, I see you every day and I think about that day you carried me back to my trailer, or when you held me so tight you were the only thing keeping me from shattering into a thousand pieces. And then we go out to pick up dinner for the band, or you smile at me or you laugh at something I said and I feel my heart soar. And I can forget about him. When I talk to you, the pain goes away for a second. Suddenly, he’s not at the forefront of my mind. You are. And I hate that! I hate dependency. I hate being someone who needs to rely on other people for happiness because I’m a lot to handle! I have so much baggage.”

Your words got caught in your throat for a second between the hollow sobs that were echoing in your trailer.

“I’m a lot easier to deal with when I’m happy. Always have been. And no one wants to deal with me when I’m sad or sick or in a shitty mood. They always leave me. And I hate that I like you so much, I hate that I adore being around you. Because I don’t want you to hurt me the same way he did. ‘Cause there’s definitely something wrong with me! Has to be! Three of my boyfriends have cheated on me. Three. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong so I could stop. I don’t want to get hurt again.”

Still, silence on the other end of the line. The noiseless environment was so quiet it was loud in your eardrums. You felt like you were going to burst into a fiery, red-hot mess of tears and anger and anxiety. You were about to combust.

“You don’t care. Silly of me to think anyone cares, really,” you paused for a moment, tears silently rolling down your cheeks, “see you around, Bennie.”

You swore you heard him try to say something, but you passed it off as your ears ringing from the massive amounts of poison(wine) running through your veins.

And with that, you ended the call and fell back on your bed, laying your head close to Lucy. And darkness consumed you, pushing you into a sleep so deep you were almost unconscious.

“Holy shit,” Lucy groaned loudly, “I’ve never been this hungover in my entire life.”

“You and me both.” You responded glumly. You had vague memories of the night before, but nothing much. The last thing you remember is passing out halfway through Pretty Woman. Your head felt like you had just awoken from a coma, you could barely open your eyes.

And your throat hurt so bad, you could’ve swore you woke up with strep throat.

You drowsily grabbed your phone from it’s spot next to you on the bed, and your eyes opened wide at the notifications on your lock screen.

You had seven missed calls from Ben, and 7 text messages.

ben: can we talk

ben: call me back

ben: answer my calls

ben: y/n

ben: y/n please call me back

ben: hello?

ben: please answer

You closed out of the texts and were about to call him back when an urgent knock rattled through your trailer. You raised an eyebrow at Lucy as you walked over to the door. She shrugged, so you expected to see a PA or something, but to your surprise, a certain blonde British man was on your doorstep.

Ben.

You both made eye contact and, for a few moments, just looked at each other. Ben opened his mouth to speak but no sound came out at first. He looked distressed, and Ben was never distressed. The look on his face was unsettling. “The call… did you mean it?” he asked suddenly. You wracked your brain for a few moments, trying to figure out what he meant by “the call.”

You raised an eyebrow in confusion. “What call?” you wondered aloud.

“T-The call. You called me last night. Did you mean it?” Ben seemed panicky, his eyes desperately searching yours for something. Jesus, did you do this to him?

What the fuck did you say on that phone call?

“I’m sorry Ben. I don’t remember I was so drunk but…” you trailed off, biting your lip gently, “I probably didn’t mean it. Whatever I said. I’m an emotional drunk.”

Ben’s eyes dropped to his shoes and suddenly the cool air around you seemed to turn stale.

“What did I say? Was I mean? I’m sorry I just… don’t remember.” You were speaking to him with a slight desperation in your voice.You hoped you hadn’t hurt him.

“You don’t know what you said?” Ben asked in slight disbelief. You shook your head side-to-side, causing Ben to just shake his head and kick his shoe into the step he was standing below on your doorstep.

“Never mind. See you around.” He spoke quickly, all emotion and warmth leaving his voice immediately. And with that, he swiftly left you standing on your own doorstep, confused and slightly worried. You could’ve sworn you heard his voice crack in sadness, but you couldn’t be too sure.

Like you said, you’re always fucking things up.

Note: this is literally my first one shot ever i’m actually embarrassed, also i spent years on this because my english is absolute TRASH and I had to search up 70s slang and the way they even did their freaking make up,,, lets just pretend this is a decent story; you can just imagine the actual roger taylor if u want to

“My god, (Y/N), if you don’t get up right now, I will kick your ass,” your best friend (Y/BF/N) stated.

You silently screamed into the pillow that you had been hit by minutes ago. Sprawled across your bed, legs dangling, white covers laying on the floor, you found yourself wondering if you should tell (Y/BF/N) to piss off or let her torment you any further.

“Buzz off,” you mumbled and felt relief wash over you when you heard her sigh and walk out of the room.

Your eyelids started to feel heavy as you felt yourself drifting off to sleep again, when suddenly you felt ice cold water hit your lower back. You screamed and immediately stood up, feeling the water run down your back and hit your legs as you watched your best friend stand there with a big glass in her hand, water running down her fingertips.

“You did not,” you slowly said as she grinned.

“Bummer for ya.”

Visibly annoyed, you stood up and stomped into the bathroom to take a shower and brush your teeth, making sure you’d later change your sheets and slap your best friend for always doing this. A quick look at the clock made you realize how late it was; nearly one p.m. You threw one some joggers and a big sweatshirt, brushing your wet hair and toddling down the stairs to your kitchen, seeing the breakfast your best friend – and the one you shared your two-story apartment with – had made for the two of you.

“Why’d you give me a heart attack earlier on again?”, you asked her as you sat down on one of the black barstools, feeling your stomach grumble as you looked at the pancakes on the small kitchen table that connected to your actual, wooden kitchen.

“Thank you for the amazing food, (Y/BF/N). I love how you must always act like my mother - and alarm clock - and teach me how to be a functioning adult. Aw, I love you too, (Y/N/N),” she jokingly mimicked your voice before skillfully flipping a pancake around mid air.

You chuckled and mumbled a quick thank you before devouring the food she had made.

“It’s one p.m. – I know we were up late last night because of that bloody The Jefferson’s marathon but you know what sleeping in does to your migraines. And second of all, I was invited to a party today and I want you to come with me.”

You almost choked on the orange juice you were drinking. “Definitely not,�� you said.

She sighed and sat down across from you. “Don’t be such a closet disco queen. I know you’re not into the fancy parties and champagne and all, but I seriously need someone to go with. I need to be there, and Sam can’t come with me.”

Finishing your food, you looked into her eyes. “Why does your career as a famous musician feel like my career too sometimes?”

“Maybe because you don’t have a career.”

You hit her foot from underneath the table as you both started laughing. She explained that a lot of new producers would attend that party and she was solemnly there to make new connections, probably sign a collaboration deal with a singer she fancied – you just forgot his name. You reluctantly agreed and asked about further details concerning that party.

“Well, it’s basically a fancy dinner night with a lot of familiar faces, champagne and wine, all that stuff. Starts at eight, our cab arrives at around seven.”, she said and threw the dirty dishes into the dishwasher.

“I don’t think I have anything to wear though, except- “

She cut you off. “The maroon dress you bought two weeks ago.”

You paused, thinking that it would be an alternative for the ugly green dress you would’ve suggested. “Isn’t it too… slutty for an event like that?”, you carefully asked, not knowing how to go around the word slutty, as you generally hated the degrading term.

“That’s bogus, nothing is too slutty for the music industry – and you look absolutely amazing in it. I mean, I made you buy it, so of course it’ll be bitch’n.”

You playfully rolled your eyes and agreed on the maroon dress. Knowing you had about five hours left until you were going to go to that bloody party, you decided to change your sheets, clean up your room and do some of your homework assignments – you were still studying for your dream job – before starting to get ready for the party.

At first, you made sure to shave anywhere you felt the need to and do your skincare routine. For makeup you chose to do a glam look with peachy blush, shimmery eyes and a red lip - and you were ready to go. For your hair you just decided to curl it a bit and leave it down. Throwing on the mid length dress and some nude heels, you looked at yourself in the mirror, pleased with the way you looked. At first you felt a bit insecure; but you also felt a sudden rush of confidence take over you, knowing you certainly looked good. After being called down from your best friend, you grabbed a matching clutch and headed downstairs, where (Y/BF/N) was waiting. She was wearing a short, silver dress which hugged her curves perfectly and some thigh high black boots.

“You look ringin’”, you said as you grabbed her arm and walked out of your apartment, straight into the cab which would lead you to the party. The ride wasn’t too long, but long enough to go through various questions from interviewers, so you wouldn’t accidentally ruin her reputation.

“I think Queen’s going to make an appearance if they’re not too busy recording their new album. I’m psyched to meet the infamous Freddie Mercury”, she quickly said before the cab stopped.

You could hear a lot of voices outside, a couple of flashing lights that made you feel a bit dizzy. Making sure you didn’t accidentally flash your underwear to the public, you carefully stepped out of the cab, grabbed your best friend by her arm and rushed inside, throwing a couple smiles at the cameras, trying not to look annoyed or stressed out.

Inside, you were baffled by the medium sized room that could fit about sixty people, high ceilings and crystal chandeliers. Anywhere you gazed you could see people chatting in their fur coats and champagne glasses, bragging about their diamond earrings and such. There was a lingering smell of cigarettes in the air and you were pretty sure there was an ice sculpture somewhere in the back. Changes by David Bowie was playing, almost being drowned out by the sound of people laughing.

It was bloody fantastic.

You and your best friend were being led to your seats, (Y/BF/N) continuously greeting people by kissing them on their cheeks and you flashing them smiles. You didn’t get to stay seated for a long time before your best friend pulled you up to talk to people. It was mostly small talk, the regular chit-chat with people you thought you’d never actually get to see in real life.

It wasn’t until later in the evening where you felt a pair of eyes on you. You were sitting on an unknown seat on an unknown table, talking to a friend of your best friend with a glass of wine in your hand. You turned your head around to meet someone’s green eyes and instantly felt time freeze. He was tall, wore a short sleeved, black button up shirt on that was unbuttoned at the collar, revealing a bit of his toned chest, accentuated by the silver necklace he was wearing as well. He was also wearing blue, flare type of jeans with a black belt, had shoulder length, blond hair and a devilish smile plastered across his face as he caught you looking at him. The quick seconds of you two locking eyes seemed like years, and you could practically feel the confidence he was radiating.

You flashed him a quick, beguile smile before turning around to talk to your best friend. “Blonde guy in the black dress shirt, right behind me. Don’t be too obvious,”, you whispered in her ear as she looked behind you before widening her eyes.

“Love, that’s Roger Taylor from Queen. The drummer. Known for his rather… player-like behaviour. A wanker, basically,” She gave you a look of carefulness as you rolled your eyes and decided to go on with the night, your mind never leaving the thought of him and that damned smile.

You excused yourself from the small group that consisted of your best friend, two producers and two friends of hers to go to the bathroom.

“Excuse me,” you heard someone say as you turned around, silently hoping it was that Roger guy – but God had clearly forsaken you. It was an older man, around fifty in a black tuxedo, slightly wasted.

You just thought he needed help of some sort, so you smiled warmly and nudged a quick “yes?” at him.

“What’s your name, hot pants?” he asked with a sort of creepy smile.

“(Y/N), why?” You tried to be as polite as possible to avoid causing a scene, but you did feel a tiny bit uncomfortable. There were tons of people around you though, so you didn’t really feel scared.

“Beautiful name for a beautiful woman,” he said with the same smile as he sorts of grabbed your shoulder to make you sit down with him.

“Oh, thank you, I actually have to go- “you started saying as he cut you off.

“Sit down, love, have a drink. Tell me about you.”

You were seriously getting weird vibes from him as he suggested you sit on the seat next to him. Clenching your jaw, you forced yourself to smile and said: ”Very lovely from you, but I wanted to go out and get some fresh air, I’ll join you afterwards though-”

“I’ll come with you then, we could actually go back to my place, it’s right down the street.” He grabbed you by your waist, but you sort of managed to wiggle yourself out of his grip. About to say something, you suddenly felt someone’s arm around your lower back.

“Is there a problem here?”, you heard in a raspy voice.

Turning around, you saw that the person was Roger. He was looking at the old man like he wanted to rip his head off, and you could admire his beauty for a few seconds before you were brought back to reality. You still smelled the sweet cologne that lingered around him, with a hint of cigarette smoke.

You looked back at the man, who was getting flustered now. “Oh no, none. Me and her were just having a talk, you know,” he managed to say.

“I actually don’t know, no,” Roger spat back and looked at you from the side to quickly make sure you were okay. You nodded to reassure him.

“We weren’t done talking so if you could just excuse us, that would be nice,” the man was getting impatient. You quietly prayed that Roger would save you from that situation, but the way he was holding you gave you a sense of comfort and trust.

“Close the shades, man. Let’s go,” Roger said and gestured for you two to walk away, and so you did.

After a while of walking away from the creepy guy, you faced him and managed to say, “Ta.” before getting a bit flustered, noticing he was still holding your waist.

He was beautiful, you had to admit. “No problem. I could basically feel how uncomfortable that was from miles away.”, he said and smiled snugly.

“Yeah, what a fry. I just wanted to use the bathroom,” you responded and smiled back.

“Well, men are assholes. You should stay away from them.”

You giggled at that. “Oh, so should I stay away from you, too?”

He was continuously smiling flirtingly, making your stomach flutter. “Oh no, not me. What’s your name anyway, sunshine?”

Baffled by his charm, you just quickly mentioned your name. Hearing him repeat it to make sure he got it right sent shivers down your spine.

“I’m Roger, the drummer in Queen, but you probably already knew that according to the looks your friend over there gave me earlier on.” His head nodded towards your best friend and you couldn’t help but laugh at that.

“I told her not to make it too obvious,” you expressed.

“It’s cool, what did she say about me? I hope only the good stuff.”

“Nothing special, except you wanting to basically shag every woman you meet.”

He chuckled, “Why don’t you come over and sit with me? Your friend can join us.”

“I seriously need to use the loo; but I’ll be there shortly,” you suggested and slightly squeezed his upper arm before turning around to head to the bathroom, questioning yourself how you even managed to get into this situation.

After fixing yourself up you decided to just get your best friend, whispering a short “Let’s go meet that Freddie Mercury of yours” in her ear and she was all for it. Walking towards Roger, who was sitting down, talking to some men with a cigarette lit in his mouth, you could see him smirking while looking at you, up and down. It was slightly embarrassing, but you enjoyed it and were thrilled to talk to him. Making space for you and your best friend, you sat down right next to him, the smell of his cologne in your nose again. But you had to remind yourself that he was a player – so you just decided to have your fun with him tonight, as you suspected he probably wasn’t interested in much more anyway. He offered you his cigarette, which you politely declined, but stole the wine he had in his hands to take a sip from it. He watched your every move, a slight look of lust and desire in his eyes.

There was a spark between the two of you. You just knew.

“That’s true,” you looked at him.

“And if you end up actually doing what you love, then maybe you end up being lucky, like me,” he just added before grinning.

He could read your expression before saying “Oh, dream on,” but managed to smile faintly.

You grabbed him by the arm and stood up, going to the dance floor. He didn’t resist. His arms around your waist, yours around his neck, you both started dancing to the rhythm. It wasn’t until you went home that your best friend would tell you Freddie told her that Roger actually despised dancing and would rather strangle himself to death than dance.

But there he was, standing in the middle of that room, dancing with you at that very moment.

You were locking eyes with him, studying his face, his long eyelashes, his plump lips, his beautiful eyes, before realizing you might have a slight crush on him. The signs were all there – the butterflies, the clumsiness, the desire to abruptly kiss him right then and there. It was all there.

“You’re beautiful,” he told you as he sort of started realizing what he had just said.

You felt the blood rush into your cheeks, “You’re not too bad yourself.”

He slowly leaned in, foreheads almost pressed against each other. You could feel his hot breath on you and unconsciously also leaned in a bit, tilting your head to the side. He removed one of his hands from your waist to caress your cheek, lifting your chin up to face him. His lips brushed against yours, you could feel he was teasing you by doing that. Closing your eyes, you filled the gap between the two of you. It was a sweet kiss, nothing too hot and heavy, but rather soft and warm. It only lasted a couple of seconds. When he pulled away, you silently whimpered at the loss of touch, but you could also read a look of confusion on his face, as if he was almost unsure of why he just kissed you. You felt the same way.

You both barely knew each other, you had only met a couple of hours ago – and yet it felt so right.

“(Y/N)! There you are,” you heard your best friend intrude.

Still looking at him, you threw a quick “Yeah?” at her.

“We, uh, have to book. Our escort just arrived.” Your best friend was clearly uncomfortable with you and Roger just staring at each other.

You sighed and slowly removed yourself from his grasp, breaking the eye contact you two had upheld until the very moment. You noticed that your best friend was holding your clutch, so you could just walk out that very moment. You turned around to look at Roger again.

“Thank you for tonight,” you said and flashed him a melancholy smile before kissing his cheek.

You were so sure he was just going to drop you, not ask you if he could see you again. You knew how womanizers were, they were just looking for some fun for a night, a sort of release from any stress they’ve been feeling. A bit hurt, you turned back to your best friend and began walking away from him, while Roger just stood there, in the middle of the dance floor.

Making your way to the exit, you heard an all too familiar voice behind you. “You’re just going to leave without telling me when I can see you again?”

Giving your best friend the look, you turned around once again to find a genuinely smiling Roger behind you.

Your heart fluttered.

“Oh, I didn’t really think you’d want to see me again if I have to be honest here,” you responded before quickly taking out a pen and writing your landline number on a napkin.

Pressing your lips on it, the rosy red lipstick you were still wearing left a mark. “Make sure you call me, have a good night, Roger” you added before giving it to him.

“You too, (Y/N),” he added before you left.

And so, you sat in your cab, on your way home, your mind on that blonde boy, wondering if you’d ever see him again.

I’m job hunting and I found some cool jobs, but if I got them, I’d have to move to NYC. This is something I’ve wanted for a while, and I’ll definitely do it if I have the chance, I’m just a little apprehensive about moving out and being in a different state from my bf again. There’s no way in hell he’d ever come with me, especially since he’s recently been offered a really good job in Philly and hates NYC with a passion. However, if we both get exceptional jobs at the same time, living together again would pretty much require one of us to leave that job.

Living in NYC would also make it harder for me to learn to drive, since my main methods of learning would be much too far away. It’d also take me from seeing him every day to seeing him whenever our schedules line up. Knowing him, that’d be rare, plus the additional reluctancy to visit New York.

Now, getting this job is a rare shot, and while it isn’t even remotely close to guaranteed, IF it does happen, my life would be a hell of a balancing act. I would never pass up the opportunity this would present me, but I also don’t want to let a job sabotage something that makes me happy.

Basically, I’m stumbled upon something that, if it happens, would absolutely flip my life on its head. The chances are slim but not impossible, and that possibility is making me consider a lot of things. It’s too cool to not go for, and I’ll be sad if it doesn’t happen, but also majorly relieved, because the thought of not living with Ben anymore and that new living situation being indefinite and, honestly, most likely lasting a year or more, genuinely makes me feel a bit sick.

I was told by my car insurance that my car was totaled, and would only be good for parts. It was in a MINOR flood, and I called to have it evaluated. They said water was in the motor, fuse boxes, everything was ruined supposedly. I told them so, and said I wanted the car back to fix it myself, but the adjustor said they already paid my bank for the damage (not even the full amount, they came up with about 45% of the payoff amount, but it was worth what I owed on it). They said if I wanted it back, I would have to give them $2,700 for the car. I said to hell with it, and had to come up with 2,600 to pay off the remaining part of the loan, and then go buy another car. Last year, I seen my car in the next town over. Same vin number, same paint chipped bumper, same fist mark behind the passenger door. I was mad, but blew it off. Then, I seen it on a buy sell trade site and decided to inquire about the details. The guy bought it for $800 and didn't have to fix anything on it except for what I needed to fix before the flood (window regulator, wheel baring, and new tires). He told me he thought I had committed insurance fraud to get a pay out from them. So, I called my old insurance company, and the lady took all my information down and gave me the adjustor's number, the adjustor's supervisor's number, and the fraud department's number. I called the adjustor, left a message, and then filed a claim with the fraud department. They said to expect a call from them next week. What exactly happens in a case like this?? I love the NFL

I’ve always loved football. Like, LOVE, love. I was born in July, and by that fall I was posing for photos inside of one of my uncle’s college football helmets. This uncle later became one of the most-winning high school football coaches in the state of Illinois, and I was proud to attend his games, hear stories of his “no nonsense” (probably concussed-inducing) style and rantings about how “only Communists like Florida State” football. I have fond memories of a very Catholic and docile grandma screaming “KILL HIM” at the TV while watching an Illinois defense in the living rooms of my childhood.

I’ve been a Packers fan since high school. I grew up in the middle of Illinois where there was no pro allegiance until the Bears came to work at Memorial Stadium in 2002. When I was in high school, we got the game-of-the-week and I saw Favre develop into a quarterback with a style that I looked forward to each Sunday and again throughout the off-season: fearless, care-free, risk-taking, unapologetic, and brash. My younger brother grew up a Colts fan; my younger cousin became a Bears fan.

Well before high school, I realized that I couldn’t play football. Learning how to throw spirals in elementary and middle school got me nowhere - just like my dream of becoming the Incredible Hulk was shattered because I was not born with a man’s body. And I mourned those losses. Hard. I knew early on that there was a ceiling that was different for my sex, and I tried to find different entry points. The only space football makes for women is asking them to don a skirt and root from the sidelines. I did what I could to be a part of it and gladly cheered and pommed my way through middle and high school.

In college I decided that I wanted to work in sports. I started studying communications. Once I said that aloud, people gave me weird looks. Up-and-down looks, trying to figure out if I was hot enough. Once I started interning in Chicago at a sports station, some of those looks were asking if I was willing to put in the hard (usually sexual) work to get there. Some men would become outright enraged at my aspiration to be included in the sports not meant for me. The week before the 1999 playoffs, I was on my couch cheering for more touchdowns from the Pack against the Cardinals when they were already up big. Watching Favre throw for more than 300 yards in a game where they may not make the playoffs for the first time since he arrived was nerve-racking (as a Packer fan, losing is pretty foreign). The man I lived with said something like, “You’re such an idiot, and you actually think you’re smart enough to be on the sidelines. They won the game.” When the color guy explained that the Packers were trying to rack up more points in case they were tied for a playoff spot because the tie-breaker would be based on who in the division scored more points that last regular season game, I don’t remember gloating, but I do remember being up locked in the basement of my own house for hours as punishment for being right. It took me another two seasons to get out of that house. Covering the Bears training camp, I was once courted by a player and he touched my leg. A radio host once bruised my arm because I came to “his” training camp and didn’t sleep in his hotel room. I looked past these incidents in sports.

When Favre took pain medication and admitted that he needed them to get through his day, I was producing for Steve Rosenbloom on the weekends. Rosie asked if as a Packer fan I cared. I opened my producer's mic and said that I wanted him “to win.” In 2002, when Mark Chmura was accused of sexually assaulting an underage babysitter, I said it didn’t affect me because he was cut by my team. Big Ben didn’t play for the Packers so those rape allegations didn’t impact my life, I reasoned in ’10. That same year, Favre was, at the least, sexually harassing an NFL reporter while he played in Jersey, but again, he wasn’t on my team. Ray Rice was seen on video dragging his wife off of an elevator after knocking her out with a punch to her face; and the Commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, lied to all of us and said he didn’t see the tape when we all know the NFL sees everything. I reasoned that this was part of the sport I loved and someday these asshats would get it together. Concussions will happen, and they are grown men deciding to play this game. My justification for continuing to watch is that my own, not-yet-conceived children won’t play football until they are out of my house, but my nephews love to play in organized PeeWee leagues to my chagrin. This month Zeke Elliott, a smiley 22-year-old second-year player from my state who looks fun and unassuming, was suspended for six games for domestic violence accusations. He’s appealing the suspension. Today a black quarterback, a good quarterback, is not leading or waiting to play backup on any NFL team because he knelt during the National Anthem in protest of blacks being being shot by some of our law enforcement officers.

I have not gone out with friends after Packer losses. I’ve texted thousands of times to fellow Packer fans during games. I’ve seen my Packers decimate the Bears on three separate occasions in three different venues. Last year one of my BFFs and I braved the Chicago -10-degree weather to see our teams face off, but I only lasted a quarter. We’ve hosted playoff games in our house where I was mortified seeing the Seahawks come back and beat the team I love. I’ve happily cheered for Aaron and his magical arm, Clay and his amazingly timed tackles, Jordy’s Mighty Mouse catches. Football has been my fall/winter self-care. It’s an escape I’ve used to get away from abusive men, and it’s been a way I’ve maintained ties to one side of a family that has abandoned my brother and me. It has been a release. I can hide in my TV on a Sunday and watch. I share this game with my husband, my friends, my brother, my cousins. I have won fantasy leagues. I have made friends with people over Twitter because of gridiron Sundays. In June I bought a friend’s baby a trio of Saints onesies. Football means so much that when I discovered a live-in boyfriend was lying about his third chance at honesty on a Saturday night, that next morning I stepped over him to watch the noon start before gathering my things and leaving that relationship for good.

I love this game. But I can’t support this game until the white players on the team I root for stand up and give unequivocal support for Colin Kaepernick and denounce the racism in “our America.” I mean HEAR HEAR to Martellus Bennett and HaHa Clinton-Dix for their bravery (don’t fucking @ me with your “bravery is only for our Vets” bullshit; we’re in a war with racist and not-yet-apparent racist assholes right now). I need Aaron, Clay, and Jordy to open their mouths and denounce what is happening in this country and to their fellow union brothers. Our white and non-white children look up to these guys, and I want the organizations I support to have decent, humane values. This isn’t an issue about one dude; and once we let the owners, the fans, and the players make it about Kap, the righteous side loses. The Players Association needs to also step up. Unions are womens, civil, workers, LGBTQIA, disability and immigrant rights organizations. As a woman, I know that being in a union makes my pay fair. This struggle is about how we treat groups of people and what that says about us. The argument that sports aren’t political is an outright lie. We hear a song touting the U.S. at the beginning of each sporting event. The NFL lobby to receive and fought to keep tax exempt status for more than 60 years. The League and individual teams pick causes all the time, such as the American Cancer Society, which is politicking. Our owners threaten our states and city councils to move teams unless tax dollars go to build new. shinier stadiums. Sports are our lives; and if your life isn’t political, then you have a certain level of privilege—a privilege that others do not possess.

A few years ago I told myself that I wouldn’t buy any more NFL gear for myself. I haven't been able to click “buy” on that Kap jersey I hate the League so much. Last year, I vowed to only watch games in which my team was playing. Now I’m ready to break up with this shitty BF who doesn’t give me anything unless I give them money and my unquestioning devotion. I’ve cried over thinking about leaving football. I’m crying now. Full disclosure: My husband is employed in a job where he has to watch sports. But I am willing to not watch any NFL game or footfall shows, not buy any NFL stuff, and take the Packers and the Bears off of my Google calendar until the Green Bay Packers and its white players make a statement about the injustice Kap is facing and that they agree with his stance that our country needs to address the violent treatment of our citizens of color. I get I’m only one person. My career now is as a school social worker on the West Side of Chicago, and I know that each and every day I am in the classroom those students and I change the world. Each of us has that power. We can be ripples in this ocean to end racism. This fall I will refuse to watch the game I love and tweet instead what I am doing in lieu of my Packers with the #BoycottTheNFL #ImWithKap. Maybe I'll bake.
