cyno: delivery for you.
alhaitham: …this letter is from you
cyno: yes. i’d already written it by the time i realized i didn’t trust anyone else to bring it to you
alhaitham: you could just tell me what it says then since you’re already here
cyno: i can’t say it out loud in your office
alhaitham: ah. so it must be a fairly sensitive case—
alhaitham: cyno.
cyno: what?
alhaitham: this just says that you think i’m pretty
cyno: yes, because i do and - considering the nature of our current relationship - i thought i should let you know.
alhaitham: again— you could just tell me?
cyno, frowning: we’re at work, that would be unprofessional. though i suppose you’ve already breached the line by reading it out loud so please be more considerate next time :/

I have this small, deeply personal headcanon that after his grandmother's passing, Alhaitham's home was so unbearably quiet that he started--just barely, just one or two words--to speak out loud to her as if she was still there.
"I've been accepted to the Akademiya, Grandmother."
"I passed my promotion exams."
"I debated with Haravatat's sage."
Just that, and quiet again.
But one day, it's: "I met someone strange."
"He keeps showing up when I'm trying to study."
"We don't agree on anything. Still..."
"I made a friend."
"Today, Kaveh and I were researching--"
"It's already dark. I didn't realize we spent so long in Razan Garden. Kaveh wanted to hear about my article--"
"He's going to be furious when I tell him the whole point for his portion of the lecture is based on a false predicate--"
The house where his grandmother used to be gets a little louder again; the noise lasts a little longer.
Until one day, when there's no words at all.
One day, when there's just the sound of a single sob, and then a long, long silence.

My personal interpretation of Kavetham is that Alhaitham is aware of his feelings for Kaveh and he’s just accepted them, shrugged and continued living his life. It’s just a fact to him now. And if someone asked him if he ever planned on telling Kaveh, he’d be like, “It’s none of his business.”

i think it's a really nice detail that titles like 'senior' and 'junior' are omitted when it comes to alhaitham and kaveh in cyno's story quest ii as it really ties nicely into the progression of their relationship
in the archon quest, in the npc dialogue, kaveh uses his senior status over alhaitham in order to get the truth pertaining to the overturning of the sages, which alhaitham refutes by saying that kaveh should use his abilities, as a senior, to uncover the truth for himself, effectively refuting this status. in kaveh's hangout, kaveh is seen to do the same to alhaitham by asserting that alhaitham should respect his senior's work, which alhaitham entertains sarcastically. and in a parade of providence, alhaitham calls into question the contradiction of kaveh continually asserting his title as a senior when kaveh's problematic decision making leads him to pass out in the desert.
in all of these instances, alhaitham's dismissal of kaveh's status of a 'senior' is a slight on kaveh's pride, and only serves to heighten the contention between them, as kaveh perceives alhaitham as looking down on him - potentially a reason for his consistency in claiming this title, as it is the only solid tie he has to alhaitham, and the only recognised leverage he has over alhaitham.
this usage of titles contributes to a power imbalance, in which kaveh attempts to gain 'correctness' over alhaitham, which is ultimately disregarded by alhaitham in a parade of providence as he says to kaveh that 'correctness' doesn't matter, and that they have long moved past this issue, insinuating that there are different reasons for the problems, the miscommunication, between them
narratively, it makes sense that this point of contention seems to have been smoothed over in cyno's story quest ii as the two's relationship has softened considerably, and that a new understanding seems to have taken place between them. the two work in tandem, researching together, spending time together in, and out, of their shared home, and the bitterness is completely gone from their dialogue. they respect, and listen, to the other's opinion, and work off of each other in order to form conclusions.
kaveh seems secure in his position as alhaitham's equal, and as such, alhaitham is regarded as kaveh's equal in turn. there is no reference to the superiority of a senior's expertise, correctness has been disregarded, and with this, an unequal power imbalance - the two have surpassed this issue on their road to reconciliation

Yuri Cyhaino Week 2024 Day 1: sharing clothes
her coat / her bandages
ID: drawings of Cyno and Alhaitham from Genshin Impact, genderbent. The second image is a PNG of the first one without the white background. On the left, Cyno is sitting with her knees up on a light turquoise surface, with Alhaitham's window behind her. She is asleep, wearing Alhaitham's coat with one hand on the front. Underneath, she is wearing a simple violet t-shirt and dark shorts. A pillow is peeking out of the lower left corner. On a small pop-up bubble, Alhaitham is smiling with a hand over her chin and hearts around her, charmed. On the right, Alhaitham is sitting with one knee up, on the sandy ground, with a cave leading out to the desert behind her. She is sighing, eyes closed, holding onto her stomach. Parts of her arms and her stomach is wrapped in the bandages from Cyno's burst/wish art; she also has minor scratches on her skin and tears on her clothing. A rock is peeking out of the lower left corner. On a small pop-up bubble, Cyno seems concerned, with a hand on her chest. Her headdress is sweating alongside her. End ID

Is gay marriage legal in Sumeru? Would you face any issues with the Academiya for dating or marrying a man?
Sumeru is a nation focused almost entirely on the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. As such, it is well within our interests as a nation to reject nonsensical traditional views and policies. Especially now, with the corrupt sages removed from power, that has been realized in its entirety. Akademiya is expanding to the desert, healthcare is free, artistic expression is encouraged. Even then, all of the previously existing stereotypes and biases have stemmed from academic disparities, misconceptions, and influence from the people in power—rather than mass discrimination for sexuality or gender, like some other nations might face. This is not to say that some people don’t experience those biases on an individual level—they just aren’t systemic. The discrimination against desert dwellers, on the other hand, are an entirely different issue, and will likely take years to deconstruct.
In terms of gay marriage, I cannot recall such a preventative law existing in the time that I’ve been General Mahamatra, but if it had, I have no doubt that either Lesser Lord Kusanali or Alhaitham himself would have eradicated it from our legislature by now. You are free to marry who you want in Sumeru.

I currently have something planned for a cytham racer au and although designing the clothes has been TERRIBLE, but its been pretty fun so far so I can't wait to be finally done so i can share them!!! I have a Sumeru/Inazuma team planned with cyno as the maindriver, kazuha as co driver. Alhaitham is actually a manager in this au as i dont think he would appreciate the noise and work that has to be put into driving, although i do think he's quite talented behind the wheel. Faruzan is the main engineer with collei being her assistant, and yoimiya is their support staff!
Also i wanna hear other people's thoughts on the genshin racer au because im just absolutely obsessed with it, hehe!!!

my only thoughts on alhaitham and kaveh are basically
got married soon after they graduated
this has been universally regarded as a bad move
marriage lasted like a year at best because *gestures to everything*
bitter divorcees nowadays. but they keep hanging around each other because nobody else would ever put up with them
most people don't know they were ever married. they literally just don't acknowledge it
even kaveh doesn't talk about it when drunk. his addled brain will still not cross that line
everybody who knows them wonders what the fuck their deal is but at this point they're too afraid to ask
sometimes you will see them having dinner together or standing together like a couple but like, just don't ask, there's no point asking
even they do not know what's going on

cyno: so what did you think?
tighnari: well you might have hit him hard enough to give a concussion but he should be alright
cyno: not that i mean about the flirting
tighnari: ….what flirting?
cyno: well i heard that strength is attractive so….
tighnari: so you wacked alhaitham in the head hard enough to knock him down??
cyno: yeah, my aim was a little off. do you think he’ll still like it though?
tighnari: i dont even know if he’ll remember it and for your sake i hope he doesn’t
cyno: ….so that’s a no to the strength idea?
tighnari, sighing: yes, cyno, that’s a no

The way I feel about Kaveh's and Alhaitham's roommate drama...
...is like watching a natural disaster that I should be running away from but I don't want to because it's so PROFOUND AND INTERESTING.

masterpost of alhaitham being endeared by kaveh because im so tired of this behaviour
the 1 second kaveh is in the archon quest
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the two times alhaitham indirectly mentions him in the archon quest (isn’t it something to be totally normal about that alhaitham is the only character to mention or hint to kaveh and yet alhaitham asks kaveh where he was when SUMERU needed him the most okay)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it is embarrassing you got caught musing aloud about your missing roommate, he’s verbally scribbling hearts and initials in the corners of his notebooks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaveh returning home being linked to alhaitham’s happiness? It’s extremely likely because it happened, this is a thing that exists and we have to live with it

Some thoughts on Alhaitham's Character Quest (Spoilers)
OK so I was REALLY curious because I saw people saying Alhaitham was unnecessarily mean, even cruel in the way he treated Kaveh in his quest.
So I went in preparing myself to feel bad for Kaveh and be disappointed in Alhaitham.
No???????
Alhaitham's retorts were no worse than what he gives most people, if a less polite. They were very on character for him and they hardly felt mean at all. The meanest thing he said was in the extra scene afterward when he poked at Kaveh's debt issues.
Beyond that if he said something a little mean it was in response to Kaveh saying something worse and typically followed by a retort from Kaveh of the same caliber. I mean, the dude spent the entire time acting embarrassed to be caught living with Alhaitham. I'd be offended too? I'd have said worse than Haitham did??
People keep painting Alhaitham as this stoic asshole and Kaveh as the precious uwu boi but like.... They're not? Haitham isn't loud and emotional, but he still reassured Ilyas. "Don't push yourself", "I can pull your file if you want", "being nervous won't help anything". Yes he's flippant and blunt but he does care.
Meanwhile Kaveh isn't some uwu soft boi. He's loud and dramatic and can hold his own against Haitham's blunt way of phrasing things. The only time he looked kind of actually hurt was when admitting he and Haitham used to be friends but weren't anymore. It wasn't even to something Haitham said.
Generally, his quest reinforced every single reason I love Haitham and dislike Kaveh and I don't get why people seem so determined to make him the bully and Kaveh some innocent victim when that's absolutely not true.

PROMPTO ( @battleshot ) INQUIRED OF AL-HAITHAM: “… wow… this place sure is scenic… h-hey, reckon we could stop to take a few shots? ”
Tumblr media
A gentle breeze ruffled trees' tops, a melodious murmur capable to pacify even the untamed mind of that man, beckoning to relish such serene and not violated by anyone's chaotic presence atmosphere; that until a joyous remark of his companion interrupted his solitary contemplation. Beyond doubt, the position of the scribe did not include accompanying dignitaries and guests from other nations to jaunts, yet the currently enticing for him topic aligned with the blond's intention to explore Sumeru, thus positioning self as a guide provided a perfect opportunity to slip from Akademiya and sages. "You are asking my consent to remain here for longer? Sure, permission granted." As the latter words jumped off the tip of his tongue, the thin line of lips bent into an amused smile, a customary impassive tone of his voice was steeped with impish intent, nevertheless he did not act upon it. For now.
Tumblr media
Hands rested across his chest, as turquoise optics attentively watched the other male take in surroundings and commit them to the memory of the camera, preserving each unique moment that would never look the same as the one before. At that very instant the image of another blond man invaded his mind, begetting the displeased frown to deform his previously appeased expression, a rather tiresome personage, however Al-haitham could discern how such comparison so easily occurred to him. Letting a sigh slip through slightly parted lips, he opted to initiate a conversation, attaching a warning to which the other had to adhere. "What an odd fascination by this hobby of yours. But make sure to not get too distracted. Avidya Forest may seem harmonious, but it can be as dangerous as the desert."
