Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal

A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):

Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.

The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.

Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.

I will say confidently that MHA has done this. It has given me a lot of ideas for my own story. It also has a lot of inspo from Avatar: The Last Airbender as well, but it's still it's own thing. I will say, as a treat. Here's a Momo rewrite!

Momo, as said before, grew up with rich parents. I'd also like to believe for this rewrite she has like older siblings. For the reason why Momo feels so inadequate is because her classmates have so much going for them, her siblings are so much smarter and wiser than her, and her parents aren't... around that much. She doesn't feel good enough, and she just wants to show that SHE can be that good enough.

I'd say she'd still have that same fight thing with Shoto and Aizawa, some things tweaked here and there but still the same. As the show goes on, I feel like it would be interesting to show a different side of the field when it comes to how quirk society treats certain people. Momo is up on the ladder. Very wealthy. Her parents have extreme expectations for her, and she has to be perfect. Grades, social life, clothing, etc. She gets compared a lot to Shoto and her siblings, which can be apart of her arc and why it affects her so much. Also a reflection of Japanese society of always having women to be perfect, prim, and even her parents basically forcing her to be like a perfect housewife for her next "husband." But Momo doesn't wanna marry or fall in love with WHO her parents want her to be. Maybe she realizes during school she's a lesbian or bisexual or w/e sexuality. She is not quite as knowledge, but very open to learning. She and Jirou get close, and meets her family. Her family is so kind and supportive, and what a family should be. She feels conflicted. For Shoto parallels, Shoto comes from a well off home, but a not so good family life. Even throw a parallel to Toga who went through the same thing. Ochako also grew up dirt poor, but has loving parents. Momo learns about a loving family IS, and I feel she would try to reconnect with some of her adult siblings, and it goes well. Rocky, but well. Shoto getting the courage to stand up to his own dad. It makes Momo think, Momo's parents in this, aren't as accepting of the LGBTQ+ , but are quiet about their judgements. Momo and Jirou's romance is a slowburn mainly because MHA takes place within one year. But, tbh, in my rewrite of MHA the final battle with Shigaraki is when all of Class 1A are like in their 4th year of school. By then, Momo and Jirou are dating. But if we're sticking to the canon timeline, there's hints of it. But Momo stands up to her parents about this and doesn't take their shit anymore. She's her own person. She's her own hero. I'd also like to imagine Momo also becomes a foil to Toga. Because in this rewrite, they have quite a lot in common, and is also present in the whole Toga V. Ochako show down. She would become a part of the Dekusquad, and be like a 2nd defacto leader. Also, in this rewrite, Midoriya, Iida, Ochako, Tsuyu, and Momo go to Shoto's house, and not just Bakugo and Midoriya. Momo is very confident and becomes a great leader, and hero. Lemme know what you think!

This is all I've ever wanted for Momo. Substance, drive, ambition, ALL OF IT IS SO PERFECT. And it also feels very true to her character. So many Momo rewrites make her entirely different (seriously, when people make her cold and snobby it really turns me off because a big part of Momo's character is that despite being rich she has a generous and kind heart), this one takes what's good about Momo's canon characters and enhances it. Horikoshi wishes he could write women half as well as you.

Pride Event 2024

Hello everyone, as you may have figured out I am a queer trans writer, and therefore I want to do something for Pride month this year. I want to write a bunch of LGBTQIA fics to post throughout the month of June, and so hopefully that’s where all of you lovelies come in. In the Legend of Izuku au, who are his bending teachers? Are they actual adults or other teens close in age/his friend group? Does anyone travel with him?

Izuku who is unaware or reluctant to admit that he is the avatar. having lived in total isolation in his home as a sun warrior, however he struggles with his native element of fire and can only call upon it in rage.

Ochako an air bender who has recently obtained her tattoos, she is the granddaughter of Jinora and Kai. Ochako while reluctant at first keeps the realization of Izuku's status as avatar a secret and decides to travel and teach him.

Shoto is a fire bending prodigy but refuses to use his bending at all, only associating it with his father and his father's mad desire for him to be the avatar. he is found by the (at that time) duo after he runs away from home and is kidnapped (by his father's men). Izuku and Ochako save him, and Izuku enlightens him that his fire has nothing to do with his father. he joins them when he discovers that they are heading to the northern water tribe, which is his mother's homeland.

Tenya while ridged in his water bending is an excellent healer. however he wishes to be more like his go with the flow older brother, and occasionally doubts his worth since he struggles with fighting even though he has a strong sense of justice. he agrees to take over Izuku's training for Master Rei and travels with the group.

Rei may appear fragile but is not only a master in healing but also in combat, using her meak demeanor to her advantage. in the water tribe it is stated that those with white hair are bless and/or loved by the moon spirit, but unfortunately for Rei her white hair was the main reason she was once kidnapped and forced to marry Enji Todoroki in his maniac attempt to create the next avatar through superior genetics. after years of abuse, she finally broke down and while she was able to escape that man and return to her homeland, she also scarred her youngest and had to leave her children behind. she regrets not taking them with her to this day.

Aizawa while being a non bender is a master of martial arts and pressure points. he is the second child of the chief and an excellent warrior. he joins the group as a chaperone, because he doesn't trust a bunch of kids to take care of themselves let alone train the avatar.

Kirishima is an eager earth bender who often finds himself in trouble. while he has great technical skill over his bending and can withstand more than most benders, he still has trouble believing in himself, mostly because his lack of being able to perform a bending subset, namely metal bending. however with some convincing agrees to join the avatars group.

The Hopeful, Gravity-Defying Heroine - Why I Appreciate Ochako Uraraka

I became a fan of My Hero Academia in February when my wife and I started watching the show. 

I did some spoiler-free research on the show before we began. I wanted to get a feel for the characters I might like. If any of you know me well, I am driven toward liking the compassionate hearts of each show I watch. The characters who hold the team together and have an unwavering spirit of hope. It’s a trait I can relate to. I was often called the glue of my friend group in college. 

Though this is a trait I can relate to, the characters associated with this role in the shows I watch are usually females. Before we started MHA, I gravitated toward characters such as Katara (Avatar), Starfire (Teen Titans), Serena (Pokémon XY), and Winry (Fullmetal Alchemist). I was intrigued to see who fit this role in this show. 

That character goes by the name of Ochako Uraraka, hero name Uravity. Her quirk (or superpower) is associated with zero gravity. Her power nullifies the gravitational pull of anything she touches with the tips of her fingers. 

Besides her quirk, she is one of the sweetest characters in the show. She is laid-back, compassionate, hopeful, and endearing to those around her. She’s unwavering in her support for those closest to her and is never afraid to rescue those who need help. 

I latched onto her immediately, and that hasn’t gone away since. She’s my second favorite female character in all of fiction behind Katara, and my top five of all time. 

She has a subtle, consistent character arc that sees her grow into a mature rescue hero. We see standout moments such as putting up a fight against Kurogiri in the USJ arc, take the heated Katsuki Bakugo to his limit in the Sports Festival tournament, and help bring protagonist Izuku Midoriya back to U.A. High School amidst a raging mob.. Need I mention her valiant and courageous effort to rescue Himiko Toga in the final war arc? 

I won’t say she’s a perfect character of course. She doesn’t get the screen time that she needs after the Sports Festival, so these amazing moments are few and far between. She also gets criticism thrown her way that she only serves to be Izuku’s love interest. While I do disagree with this argument (she isn’t the only one whose character revolves around Izuku), I wish they dug more into her chemistry with other characters. I also wanted to see her more in action, though her main purpose is a rescue hero so I don’t mind it. However, with the martial arts she learned from Gunhead, it would have been nice to see her in combat more. 

However, let me bring this back to the main purpose of why I’m writing this. While I do want to illustrate the highlights and flaws of her character, I desire to write why I appreciate Ochako as much as I do.

For as long as I’ve been a fan of My Hero Academia, it’s been difficult for me to safely express my fandom for Ochako. Dare I say it - I’ve dealt with a lot of shame in proclaiming her as my favorite. This is due to how numerous people in the fandom dislike her character. Furthermore, as a male I shouldn’t have a female as my favorite. My favorite character should be Izuku, Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, or All Might. Someone masculine. 

Maybe it’s the voice of the fandom overwhelming me, or it’s just the voice in my mind playing with me. Perhaps it’s both. But yeah, I’ve had multiple discussions with people about this shame. Nearly ten months after starting the show, it’s frustrating this same struggle is at war within my mind. 

Despite this war with my shame, there is one reason why Ochako Uraraka is my number one character in this anime. One word stands above them all. A constant when it comes to my favorite character in any show. 

Hope. 

This was a difficult year for me. I went through many valleys this year. I unexpectedly lost a dear college friend of mine, my grandmother died of a heart attack, and on two different occasions, I suffered an injury to the same ankle I sprained three years prior. Furthermore, depression and anxiety have continued to cripple me as they have for the last four eyars. I won’t sugarcoat it and say I was riding unicorns the whole year. Far from it. 

I like to watch animated shows as a nice leisurely hobby. I quickly latch onto characters who outwardly are the glue of the show and inspire hope. For Avatar, it was Katara. For Pokémon XY, it was Serena. For Fullmetal Alchemist, it was Winry. 

For My Hero Academia, it is Ochako. 

We see this early on in the show. Ochako was the first girl aside from Izuku’s mom to believe in him. She was the inspiration behind him choosing Deku as a hero name. For so long it was Bakugo’s means of belittling him. Now, it was his name to carry on the legacy of One for All (the quirk still unbeknownst to her and the class at the time). 

Ochako believed in Izuku. Even though he abandoned their class so they would not get hurt by the villains, her and her fellow classmates still hoped he would be the one to save them from the calamity. She led the charge in that hope, but more on that in a bit. 

She also came from a rough upbringing financially. Her parents run a struggling construction business. They do not have much business and barely have enough to scrape by. Ochako can only afford the most basic of clothes and food. She apparently starved herself of meals because she couldn't afford to buy more at that time.

She saw hero work as the only way to provide for her parents. Before the sports festival, she reveals this to Izuku and Tenya Iida. While she saw this as selfish at first, the two boys admired her for having that motivation. She was not doing hero work for the money on her own accord. While having that money for herself would be nice, it wasn’t her sole focus. Rather, she desired to give her parents a good life and help provide for them. 

"I'm gonna become a pro. I'll sign with a good agency and make plenty of money. Then I'll be able to let my parents live an easy life!" (2:14).

You see that selflessness permeate in her character as the show progresses. You notice her come to Tsuyu Asui’s aid when she needed to have a needed conversation with a group of students in their class (Izuku, Iida among them) concerning their willingness to rescue Bakugo from the League of Villains. You see her adopt a sense of rescue akin to Izuku in the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War. “I’ll rescue her, and everyone else I can..  I HAVE TO!” (6:14).

It may be a simple line, but it epitomizes her character. Regardless of the odds stacked against her, she desires to do everything she can to save everyone. She is cut from the same cloth as Izuku.

You also notice her heart to rescue Toga as well. She had a rough upbringing with unloving parents and a society that treated her like garbage. Ochako realizes Toga never had a friend to come alongside her and love her for who she is. Everything was against the weightless heroine. She was stabbed in the stomach by Toga. Toga also had a mob of Twice clones enveloping her. Despite all this, she will not stop until Toga is saved. Toga was a villain on the outside, but realized there was a person to be saved on the inside.

Ochako is a girl who grew up with nothing, and yet she is willing to give everything for the good of humanity. That is the hero she wishes to be. Despite the burdens weighing her down (i.e. financial strain), she won't let those shortcomings bother her as she strives to make others' issues weightless.

That is why I like her. Her sense of hope is constant throughout the show. Seeing her maintain that hope despite her poor upbringing and the darkness of the ongoing war is really inspiring. 

It doesn’t get any more clearer when she gives her speech on top of U.A. In going against a mob of angry citizens harassing Midoriya for abandoning them, Ochako gives a resounding message that puts the crowd in favor of the battered, beaten hero. It brings him to his knees. Her goal was to convince the furious crowd to rally around Izuku because he was their only hope to bring an end to the collateral madness caused by the villains. 

It was a rousing success. It brought everyone to tears, and it gave everyone hope for the future. The villains may seem to have the upper hand at present, but the heroes (led by Izuku) were going to do everything they can to make sure their plan does not reach total victory. 

Hope, above all reasons, is why I appreciate Ochako so much. She keeps it even among dire circumstances, and she always hopes for the best in others. 

Not to victimize my circumstances, but I am going through a lot in my life. Seeing a character like her hold onto hope and stay true to herself is something I can always admire.

It’s ok for the lateness, the questions and I aren’t going anywhere lol

1: what type of weapons does Chris uses? I know for Jake he uses the typical “Batman” stuff and I saw a older post of yours saying he uses special “Nightwing sticks” to shoot beams of starbolts; it would be cool to see he can concentrate the starbolts in the sticks to become a lightsaber or maybe a battle axe.

2: is the Superman last son comic canon in your “universe?” Like Chris arrived to earth in that spaceship and then a few days/weeks later he sacrificed himself to close the portal getting aged up etc…

3: I read a post yesterday that Chris has blue heat version, does he had that before or after the Nightwing dragon entity?

4: what’s the most traumatic moment the duo experience?

5: how strong is Chris compared to the rest of his family before and after receiving the Nightwing dragon power? I can see him being the weakest since being born in the phantom zone and maybe third or second strongest after receiving Nightwing.

6: How old was Jake and what was he doing when he received his powers?

1. Primarily his main weapons of choice are dual wield Ecrima Sticks that contain special pores within their handles that allow his starbolts to travel into and supercharge some taser tips at the end of them at a voltage enough to stun both men and monsters. As complete maximum charge, the sticks can work in a manner akin to lightsabers as they can now deflect major energy attacks.

He can also combine his sticks at their other tips into a collapsible bo staff. Should Skybird finds himself without his sticks, he’s knowledgeable in multiple martial arts both Earth and Tamaran based in combination with his power set so he’s still not completely defenseless.

2. Primarily about the first half of it is more or less canon to these series of events; the events of him crash landing in an experimental pod in the heart of Metropolis west he first meets Clark (for a small artistic change from the original panel, Chris is clad in a black bodysuit like the one he had in his last appearance before the events of Flashpoint but that’s just a small detail), gets taken in by the DEO where they make the discovery of his Kryptonian heritage and just as they were taking him to another facility, Clark secretly interfered to stop them. He then takes in the 6 year old into his household after the intent to the public clear that he can stay with a human family as foster parents (I.e. him and Lois’ household alongside there then 4 year old son Jon) right before Bizarro, under orders from Luthor, attacked but during it, Chris saved Lois from getting crushed by the Daily Planet Globe. From there, things deviate with some parts and pieces adapted from the Kurt Busiek Superman run along with some tiny parts of the 2015 Lois and Clark series, detailing of a growing bond between Chris and Jon as they grow up together as brothers.

It’s not until Chris reaches 11 1/2 to 12 years of age when Zod and his army finally arrive from the Phantom Zone. By then, the bulk of Chris’ memories as Lor Zod have came back to him, in particular of the harsh way Zod raised him which reinforces both his inner insecurities as a Kent yet also his desire to stay with Clark and Lois. Plus advanced tests and scans from the Fortress of Solitude and the DCU’s top scientists help determine his place of origin.

3. At least in my fanon verse, it’s a trait he had basically since birth due to his birth in the Phantom Zone and all the wired effects it can do to even a Kryptonian’s physiology. Once he’s exposed to moonlight (and maybe partial yellow sunlight), that heat vision is accessible to him

4. Chris; easy his earlier childhood when raised by Zod. In this case, think of it along with how both Dabi and Shoto were raised underneath the reign of Enji Todoroki from My Hero Academia combine with a bit of how Zuko’s childhood went when Fire Lord Ozai was raising him from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

As for Jake; there’s three primary bad memories his mind circles back to during his emotional lowest moments. They are the time a Gordanian raid at Bludhaven came about when he was 4, him and Big Sis Mar’i bring outright ripped away from Kory’s arms by the sinister flying lizards which would’ve resulted in them being taken into slavery hadn’t it not been for their Mom and Dad acting fast to get them out of those arms

Then, for a second place of bad memories, when he was 9, getting abducted during a routine by a Talon and sent into a Labyrinth by the Court of Owls . For three days and two nights, he was lost and unable to escape the menacing white walls and never ending zigzagging maze, talons stalking him at every corner and only one fountain of fresh water to drink only said water was contaminated with substances that could make him start losing his mind no matter how thirsty he is. It was only by him taking advantage of an old school camera meant to capture his moments of torment and weak points in the marble foundation during another Talon encounter did he manage to escape the Labyrinth, reuniting with his family and taking the fight to the Owls themselves along with the rest of the Titans

Though of course in first place above all else, even more so than that fateful duel with Zsasz himself, that moment his father and him were investigating what Z list ex criminal Humpty Dumpty was doing going though some trouble for taking some broken toys to fix at an abandoned orphanage. Jake however then discovered it wasn’t just the toys that were broken….it was an entire orphanage of street urchins and orphans, no younger than 8 but no older than 12, that were broken. Humpty was trying to ‘fix’ them too in the best way he though he knew to no avail, and all during the weeks leading up to Christmas as well.

That image of the lifeless kids being carted into vans on stretchers with white blankets draped over them one by one is an image that haunts Jake’s memories to the present day. Ironic considering his own sleeping arrangements often have him covered up in his bed with the blankets draped over him similarly like that. Maybe the difference comes to that at least his family can hear him snoring peacefully under those sheets…not so much the case for those poor orphans that night.

5. His strength prior to the Nightwing entity being fully tapped into could be considerably between Jon and Conner, making about only the second weakest of the bunch. Once the entity was tapped into in full though, his power level increased dramatically being about the same as Kara, second only behind Clark’s himself…as he gets older though, it’s still growing, at a rate only matched by Jon’s growth

6. Jake’s powers first kicked in at the age of 8 when he was trying to fend himself from a school bully (he’s a late bloomer since Mar’i first got her powers basically since birth). At first, he kept them a tight secret even from his family, afraid of them getting out of control since they were mainly linked to his emotions. Naturally the Graysons find out about them during a time he was helping them in patrol, and felt ashamed. Dick and Kory though we’re understanding and after a talk between all of them that night, Kory and Mar’i helped Jake get a good learning with his newfound powers relatively quickly.

My top 5 vtubers

I've liked vtubers for over a year now so it's safe to say I at least know a little about them. A very very brief description of vtubers is a streamer or YouTuber who uses a virtual avatar instead of showing their face. Their avatars usually have some kind of character backstory to them as well.

Starting at number 5 is Shoto. He is the one that actually got me interested in vtubers. Before, my friend had showed me some short videos with vtubers, but I wasn't really interested. I started watching Shoto (or his username Shxtou) because I saw some videos of him on Tik Tok. Then I decided to check out his Twitch channel and he was live since it was Valentines Day. Usually for holidays like this he'll do karaoke or some other activity to engage his fans. His character lore is he's a guild leader and a demon slayer. I really like his lore because it involves his fans, which are named "guildies". He's basically the "guild leader" of the group and we're all a part of his demon slaying guild. He mostly plays indie horror games and the occasionally first person shooter. He also does a lot of streams where he does karaoke and recently he's been drawing.

Number four in my ranking is Mysta Rias. He's part of the Vtuber company "Nijisanji", specifically their English branch since this is originally a Japanese company. He was one of my first favorites from Nijisanji and I found him because of Shoto. They had done a stream together and I really liked Mysta's humor. He tends to be more on the chaotic side and has a very big personality. His character lore is he's a detective from the past who got transported to the present, and his name is actually supposed to be a play on the word mysterious. I mostly like him because his humor is very "loud" in a way. There are others on this list who have a more subtle humor, but this is the kind of humor I go to when I'm in a more upbeat mood, or just need to wake up.

Number three on my list is Gavis Bettel. He's from a different Vtuber company called Hololive. He's specifically part of the subsection called Holostars, which is a male english group. This company also started in Japan, so they have a separate branch for its english members. His character story is he's a jester, which I think makes a lot of sense since his content is very comedy focused. Some other people on this list do multiple things like sing or draw, but Bettel just plays games and makes jokes the entire time. He recently debuted earlier this year in January, so he's still very new in terms of being a company vtuber. While his humor is also pretty chaotic, I wouldn't say it's to the level of Mysta. It's still very chaotic, but not as loud.

Next on my list is Kenji. Kenji is an independent vtuber who still hasn't officially debuted yet. He's been streaming for a while now, but he talks about how he's still planning and saving up to make a character lore video. Lore videos cost a lot of money because you have to pay for multiple artists to help. The main reason I like Kenji is because he engages a lot with his community. Most of his streams are based around talking to his fans and seeing what they'd be interested in doing. He's not as big as the other vtubers I've mentioned on this list, and I think that adds to that sense of community. Once you get to a certain point in your streaming career, it can be hard to engage with fans one on one, but Kenji still has that chance.

Finally at number one is Aster Arcadia. He's also part of the group Nijisanji with Mysta Rias. He debuted in late August last year. His character backstory is he's an actual star personified and he describes his character as a celestial being. Part of the reason I like him is because he does his best to foster a wholesome and welcoming community. His streams are much calmer than the other's on this list. He tends to mainly play games like Apex Legends and League, which I'm not really interested in, but I'll still play them in the background if I'm doing something. He also does his best to engage with his audience, which is another reason I really like him.

Overall I tend to like more energetic vtubers who have a lot of energy, the only exception being Aster. Usually when I get interested in something, that interest only lasts for a month or two, so the fact I've been consistently watching vtubers for a year now is weird to think about. Every time I start to get bored of them I just find a new one who catches my attention.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising (PC)

This was a Christmas gift from my friend Chris

I actually did have the original GBFV on PS4, but with the online being miserable for facing anyone outside the country, it basically only had a story mode thing and combo trials to get on with. Rising basically solves all of that; the netcode is ArcSys' now standard good rollback implementation, it has a bunch more characters who are all pretty fun, and there's a silly minigame mode to go with the usual Story/Arcade/Versus/Training stuff (though it is an online mode too).

For the longest time I couldn't really play fighting games at all (I knew the basic QCF/QCB style motions from like, Street Fighter and that was it) until I finally sat down to grasp it a bit ago, and I think now here I finally "get" it, as in I actually can get occasional wins online and actually know what I'm doing or need to do some of the time. Mind you, the character I'm favouring (Anila) is still basically a shoto so I haven't gotten all that advanced.

GBFV Rising is GBFV with more characters, functioning online and plenty of extras to dig for. I'm glad actual content is returning to fighting games, I'm glad ArcSys finally figured out alt costumes (the above are not alt costumes, they're mods, but there are costumes now - albeit on the premium battle pass shit but still), Grand Bruise Legends is at least funny, the little avatars with voice lines for when you win and lose fights is a lovely touch (I love having Gold Ship giving me advice by telling me to mash buttons), it's a real good time. It'll probably be the fighting game I hover around for the foreseeable future, though I do intend to finally get to Melty Blood Type Lumina at some point (if only for the story mode stuff).
