Di questo hanno fatto tesoro i Walk in darkness. Dal loro primo lavoro più marcatamente goth, sono riusciti a trovare una propria strada espressiva. Il risultato è il loro ultimo Leaves Rolling in Time. Un disco davvero ottimo. Interessante, non scontato, potente e melodico. Un lavoro che raccoglie in sè diversissime influenze.

Dal già citato goth, con sfaccettature doom, all’hard rock, passando per fraseggi più prog senza sconfinare. Un disco molto ben suonato e prodotto. A fare da padrona assoluta del concept, perché di questo si tratta, è la voce ammaliatrice di Nicoletta Rosellini. La nostra si destreggia in ambienti distanti senza fare una piega, senza mai perdere la padronanza del cantato o la direzione. Sempre presente alla base, perfettamente circostanziata. Voce pulita, ora morbida e avvolgente, ora dura e urlata, si alterna a momenti più rabbiosi.

Un cantato che in ogni caso rimane evocativo, che cattura senza possibilità di fuga. La band, dal canto suo, si adatta in ottimamente all’andamento vocale. Il luglio dedicato ai chitarristi lo vorrei chiudere con un omaggio ad un grandissimo musicista italiano. Il suo nome dà i brividi di piacere ad una generazione musicale, quella del prog italiano, che come raramente è capitato poteva guardare a testa altissima i colleghi stranieri in quegli anni. Tra i chitarristi prog italiani, voglio ricordare tre nomi. Il primo, Nico Di Palo, dei New Trolls, agli inizi degli anni ’70 fu inserito in una classifica del prestigiosissimo magazine musicale inglese Melody Maker (all’epoca una Istituzione) tra i dieci migliori chitarristi europei; il secondo, Marcello Todaro, chitarrista del Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, capace di disegnare la via mediterranea al prog con la sua chitarra vibrante e visionaria, e personalmente trovo una delle sue migliori performance nel disco omonimo dei Crystals, il super gruppo nato dalla sua uscita dal BMS e composto da Giorgio ”Fico” Piazza della Premiata Forneria Marconi al basso, Nanni Civitenga della Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno / Samādhi alle chitarre, Giorgio Santandrea degli Alphataurus alla batteria e Carlo Degani alla voce con Paolo Tofani degli Area, anche lui mitico chitarrista, a produrre (un disco prodotto nel 1974 che è rarissimo, dato che la Cramps non lo pubblicò mai, e vide la luce solo su Cd a fine anni ’90); il terzo è Alberto Radius, che ha attraversato 40 anni di musica italiana, segnando un traccia profondissima con i Formula 3 e il sodalizio “indiretto” con Lucio Battisti. Mussida dopo il servizio militare tornerà nei Quelli, alternandosi a suonare in alcuni tra i più importanti dischi italiani: ricordo tra gli altri le collaborazioni con Fabrizio De André, con Lucio Battisti, la sua chitarra è quella de La Canzone Del Sole, Paolo Conte, Francesco Guccini. Nel 1971, con l’ingresso di Mauro Pagani, la band dei Quelli diventerà la Premiata Forneria Marconi, che segnerà un’epoca, suonando nei più grandi palcoscenici del mondo, in tour negli USA 50 anni prima dei Maneskin, disco considerati dei capolavori anche dalla stampa estera, con milioni di copie vendute nel mondo. A quel suono contribuì non poco l’estro compositivo ed esecutivo di Mussida, il suo tocco elegante e delicato, in alcuni dei passaggi chitarristici più famosi del periodo. Più che a quel periodo, vorrei però ricordarlo da un altro punto di vista: impegnatissimo nel sociale (l'insegnamento all'interno di carceri e nelle comunità di recupero della Lombardia), Mussida nel 1984 fondò a Milano il Centro Professione Musica, una scuola di musica popolare contemporanea che recentemente è stata riconosciuta Centro di Alta Formazione Musicale, scuola a cui si deve la formazione di moltissimi artisti, ultimo dei quali Mahmood. Solo nel 1991 pubblica il primo disco solista: Racconti Della Tenda Rossa. La Tenda Rossa del titolo era la tenda all'interno della quale trovarono rifugio i superstiti dell'incidente del dirigibile Italia del Comandante Umberto Nobile da quando caddero sul pack della banchisa polare artica alle ore 10:33 del 25 maggio 1928 sino al momento del loro salvataggio operato il 12 luglio dal rompighiaccio sovietico Krasin. Il disco è composto da 14 brani, caratterizzati dalla sua chitarra jazz con accenni di musica etnica (sono gli anni dell’esplosione della world music). Mussida in alcune canta anche, sfoggiando un bel timbro dolce ed elegante: Voci, Orizzonti Del Cuore, uno strumentale delicatissimo per chitarra e pianoforte, Radici Di Terra sono piccole gemme intrise di smooth jazz, contrappunti di strumenti particolari, tra cui i flauti indiani, tabla, sezioni di fiati come il bel sax di La Cava Di Sabbia. Himalaya e la piccola serie di strumentali come La Tempesta, Porti Lontani, Piani Paralleli potrebbero passare per una musica scovata in qualche disco perduto della ECM; Caffé Concerto, che sa di bossa nova, ha in sottofondo il brusio delle voci di una clientela di un bar. Prodotto dalla Virgin, Mussida si avvale di una foltissima schiera di musicisti di grande qualità, tra cui spiccano i nomi di Tino Tracanna al sassofono, le voci di Angelo Branduardi e Fabio Concato in Radici Di Terra. Mussida dopo 4 anni pubblicherà un secondo disco, Accordi, e nel 1997 uno dei suoi progetti più visionari: Sinfonia Popolare Per 1000 Chitarre, un’opera rock in tre atti che in un memorabile concerto in Piazza Duomo a Milano venne eseguita da una mega orchestra di 1350 componenti tra chitarre, fiati e coro. Rimane un mito per la sua sconfinata cultura musicale, per il ruolo di maestro e insegnante e perchè si leva il tocco delle sue dita sulle corde ad alcuni dei momenti più belli del rock di questo paese, e non solo.

Poche ore fa è stato pubblicato questo lavoro assolutamente decisivo, concentrato a valutare il subset dei soggetti che si infettano con la variante Delta: lo studio confronta gli esiti clinici e virologici tra vaccinati e non vaccinati. Quello che emerge con drammatica evidenza è che, oltre alla ben nota protezione clinica (nessuno dei vaccinati muore e nessuno va in ospedale) , nei vaccinati il tempo di declino della carica virale (pur partendo dalla stessa concentrazione virale dei non vaccinati) risulta, alla fine, circa 5 volte più rapido. La fase di eliminazione virale nasofaringea nel gruppo dei vaccinati è tanto breve da apparire quasi impercettibile. Ergo…i vaccinati albergano il virus variante per molto meno tempo e a cariche virali molto più basse. Chiunque si intenda , anche da amatore, di virologia, comprenderà che i vaccinati hanno una probabilità esponenzialmente più bassa dei non vaccinati sia di contagiare che di elaborare una mutazione. Si chiude qui (almeno per me) definitivamente, la questione vaccinale: di fronte alle evidenze incontrovertibili il silenzio è d'oro. Abstract

Objectives Highly effective vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been developed but variants of concerns (VOCs) with mutations in the spike protein are worrisome, especially B.1.617.2 (Delta) which has rapidly spread across the world. We aim to study if vaccination alters virological and serological kinetics in breakthrough infections. Methods We conducted a multi-centre retrospective cohort study of patients in Singapore who had received a licensed mRNA vaccine and been admitted to hospital with B.1.617.2 SARS-CoV-2 infection. We compared the clinical features, virological and serological kinetics (anti-nucleocapsid, anti-spike and surrogate virus neutralization titres) between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Results Of 218 individuals with B.1.617.2 infection, 84 had received a mRNA vaccine of which 71 were fully vaccinated, 130 were unvaccinated and 4 received a non-mRNA. Despite significantly older age in the vaccine breakthrough group, the odds of severe COVID-19 requiring oxygen supplementation was significantly lower following vaccination (adjusted odds ratio 0.07 95%CI: 0.015-0.335, p=0.001). PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values were similar between both vaccinated and unvaccinated groups at diagnosis, but viral loads decreased faster in vaccinated individuals. Early, robust boosting of anti-spike protein antibodies was observed in vaccinated patients, however, these titers were significantly lower against B.1.617.2 as compared with the wildtype vaccine strain. Conclusion The mRNA vaccines are highly effective at preventing symptomatic and severe COVID-19 associated with B.1.617.2 infection. Vaccination is associated with faster decline in viral RNA load and a robust serological response. Vaccination remains a key strategy for control of COVID-19 pandemic.

Writing system and pronunciation

These are the letters that make up the alphabet: ' b t j x kh d r s sh dh c g f q k l m n w h y a e i o u aa ee ii oo uu.

There are three tones: high, marked by an acute accent; marked by a grave accent, and falling, marked by a circumflex accent. They are used to distinguish between identical words and to mark grammatical functions. Stress usually falls on the final or penultimate vowel.

Grammar

Nouns have two genders (masculine and feminine), two numbers (singular and plural), and four cases (absolutive, nominative, genitive, and vocative). Cases can be marked through vowel change in the definite article, by a change in tone or by a suffix.

Pronouns have an emphatic and a short form and a subject and an object form. There is an inclusive and an exclusive first personal plural.

Verbs are conjugated for tense, mood (indicative, imperative, subjunctive, and conditional), person, number, and gender. They are mainly conjugated by adding suffixes, although some use prefixes instead.

Dialects

There are three dialects: Northern Somali, Coastal Somali, and Af-Ashraaf.

Standard Somali is based on Northern Somali. Af-Ashraaf has limited intelligibility to speakers of the other dialects and differs in phonology and syntax.

Latin Declensions:

Latin has five declensions, the origin of which are explained in Latin history books. To define a noun and know which declension it belongs to, you have two different cases- nominative or genitive, then its type (feminine, masculine or neutral). For all the declensions, you will need to learn the cases in both singular and plural.

There are 6 cases: nominative, vocative, accusative, genitive, dative and ablative. They each correspond to a grammar function:

Nominative = subjects,

Vocative = function for calling, questioning,

Accusative = direct objects,

Genitive = possessive nouns,

Dative = indirect objects,

Ablative = prepositional objects.

First- and second-declension adjective are inflected in the masculine, the feminine and the neuter; the masculine form typically ends in -us (although some end in -er, see below), the feminine form ends in -a, and the neuter form ends in -um. Therefore, some adjectives are given like altus, alta, altum.

Adjectives ending -ius use the vocative -ie (ēbrie, "[O] drunk man", vocative of ēbrius), just as in Old Latin all -ius nouns did (fīlie, "[O] son", archaic vocative of fīlius).

Some first- and second-declension adjectives' masculine form end in -er. As with second-declension -r nouns, some adjectives retain the e throughout inflection, and some omit it. Sacer, sacra, sacrum omits its e while miser, misera, miserum keeps it.

Nine first- and second-declension pronominal adjectives are irregular in the genitive and the dative in all genders. They can be remembered by using the mnemonic acronym ūnus nauta. They are:

ūllus, ūlla, ūllum 'any';

nūllus, nūlla, nūllum 'no, none';

uter, utra, utrum 'which [of two], either';

sōlus, sōla, sōlum 'sole, alone';

neuter, neutra, neutrum 'neither';

alius, alia, aliud 'another' (the genitive singular alīus is often replaced by alterīus or by aliēnus 'of another');[24]

ūnus, ūna, ūnum 'one';

tōtus, tōta, tōtum 'whole';

alter, altera, alterum 'other [of two]'.

Third-declension adjectives are normally declined like third-declension i-stem nouns, except for the fact they usually have -ī rather than -e in the ablative singular (unlike i-stem nouns, in which only pure i-stems have -ī). Some adjectives, however, like the one-ending vetus, veteris ('old, aged'), have -e in the ablative singular, -um in the genitive plural, and -a in the nominative and accusative neuter plural.

Third-declension adjectives with one ending have a single nominative ending for all genders, although as usual the endings for the other cases vary. As with nouns, a genitive is given for the purpose of showing the inflection.

Third-declension adjectives that have two endings have one form for the masculine and feminine, and a separate form for the neuter. The ending for the masculine and feminine is -is, and the ending for the neuter is -e. It is not necessary to give the genitive, as it is the same as the nominative masculine singular.

Third-declension adjectives with three endings have three separate nominative forms for all three genders. Like third- and second-declension -r nouns, the masculine ends in -er. The feminine ends in -ris, and the neuter ends in -re. The genitive is the same as the nominative feminine singular.

As in English, adjectives have superlative and comparative forms. For regular first- and second-declension and third -declension adjectives with one or two endings, the comparative is formed by adding -ior for the masculine and feminine, and -ius for the neuter to the stem. The genitives for both are formed by adding -iōris. Therefore, they are declined in the third declension, but they are not declined as i-stems. Superlatives are formed by adding -issimus, -issima, -issimum to the stem and are thus declined like first- and second-declension adjectives.

Poche ore fa è stato pubblicato questo lavoro assolutamente decisivo, concentrato a valutare il subset dei soggetti che si infettano con la variante Delta: lo studio confronta gli esiti clinici e virologici tra vaccinati e non vaccinati. Quello che emerge con drammatica evidenza è che, oltre alla ben nota protezione clinica (nessuno dei vaccinati muore e nessuno va in ospedale), nei vaccinati il tempo di declino della carica virale (pur partendo dalla stessa concentrazione virale dei non vaccinati) risulta, alla fine, circa 5 volte più rapido. La fase di eliminazione virale nasofaringea nel gruppo dei vaccinati è tanto breve da apparire quasi impercettibile. Ergo…i vaccinati albergano il virus variante per molto meno tempo e a cariche virali molto più basse. Chiunque si intenda , anche da amatore, di virologia, comprenderà che i vaccinati hanno una probabilità esponenzialmente più bassa dei non vaccinati sia di contagiare che di elaborare una mutazione. Si chiude qui (almeno per me) definitivamente, la questione vaccinale: di fronte alle evidenze incontrovertibili il silenzio è d'oro. Da oggi in poi ogni discussione sulla contagiosità e sulla patogenicità dei vaccinati (percorribile finchè si vuole in un regime libertario e in un paese in cui davanti ad un boccale di birra si può sostenere qualsiasi tesi) avrà la stessa valenza anticopernicana della ipotesi che sia il Sole a girare attorno alla Terra.

“Virological and serological kinetics of SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant vaccine-breakthrough infections: a multi-center cohort study

Abstract

Objectives Highly effective vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been developed but variants of concerns (VOCs) with mutations in the spike protein are worrisome, especially B.1.617.2 (Delta) which has rapidly spread across the world. We aim to study if vaccination alters virological and serological kinetics in breakthrough infections. Methods We conducted a multi-centre retrospective cohort study of patients in Singapore who had received a licensed mRNA vaccine and been admitted to hospital with B.1.617.2 SARS-CoV-2 infection. We compared the clinical features, virological and serological kinetics (anti-nucleocapsid, anti-spike and surrogate virus neutralization titres) between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Results Of 218 individuals with B.1.617.2 infection, 84 had received a mRNA vaccine of which 71 were fully vaccinated, 130 were unvaccinated and 4 received a non-mRNA. Despite significantly older age in the vaccine breakthrough group, the odds of severe COVID-19 requiring oxygen supplementation was significantly lower following vaccination (adjusted odds ratio 0.07 95%CI: 0.015-0.335, p=0.001). PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values were similar between both vaccinated and unvaccinated groups at diagnosis, but viral loads decreased faster in vaccinated individuals. Early, robust boosting of anti-spike protein antibodies was observed in vaccinated patients, however, these titers were significantly lower against B.1.617.2 as compared with the wildtype vaccine strain. Conclusion The mRNA vaccines are highly effective at preventing symptomatic and severe COVID-19 associated with B.1.617.2 infection. Vaccination is associated with faster decline in viral RNA load and a robust serological response. Vaccination remains a key strategy for control of COVID-19 pandemic.”
