After being killed by the one person who she admired, respected, and loved the most, Elise spent her first few years in Heaven feeling miserable as she felt like everything that she'd experienced and lived through with her beloved father was all a lie. It was depressing.

Of course she wouldn't show her pitiful state with the others, why would she? They're in heaven, it should be the happiest place anyone could possibly be in! No need to be a bother.

Emily, being the seraphim who's job is to bring joy to all of heaven, saw through Elise's front. 

Having dealt with some poor mortal souls similar to her before, Emily zeroes in on Elise and does her best to keep her from being left on her own thoughts, always including Elise to anything she thinks she would like and find fun. (Elise initially didn’t want to, though she also couldn’t say no. Emily was so sweet and kind, and that makes her guilty.)

It somewhat helped as Elise’s focus shifted on Emily’s efforts, something that she’ll eventually grow fond of. This kept up until they became best friends! …somehow.

Elise seeing what Emily does daily as a Seraphim? Very admirable. But also Elise decided that she wanted to help Emily with bringing happiness and peace to others, making them both always together almost everyday.

It was taxing, but knowing that Emily does this all on her own, Elise would keep on helping her as Emily has helped her before. Plus, doing this with Emily helped her meet interesting people! Like St.Peter! Or maybe Ruth– or Troy! (the guy who dutifully keeps heaven’s dog park clean, bless you Troy)

Or… Adam? He leaves a lot to be desired.

She also met this really pretty, and sweet, older woman that kind of makes her feel somewhat nostalgic. Elise likes her a lot, and the woman also seems to feel likewise! She’d often invite the younger girl over for tea and such, something she’s always happy to attend to. Unfortunately it was an occasional thing as she’d dedicated herself to assisting Emily with her duties.

That was how her (after)life went by as decades passed in Heaven.

Though… Elise sometimes still thinks of him, her father. He’s down in hell, damned for eternity for all the sins and deceit that he’s committed. Deserving for Alastor, fitting for the monster that he truly was.

They both will never meet ever again, and she strongly believed in that.

Headcanons for Astarion/Tav:

I like the idea he never honestly gets past his aversion to touch, and remains somewhere on the ace spectrum for the rest of his days. I think he and Tav can still have a very fulfilling relationship with that included. So here are some headcanons I've developed with that assumption.

(I'm not 100% married to the idea they never touch AT ALL, or that sex never happens. But atleast for me, touch/sex are very low on the totem pole in his relationship, and I wanted to sit with ways he still gets butterflies for Tav without touch in the picture.)

Cute date things that make his heart race, proverbially, without ending in anything make me soft. Like Tav showing him all their favorite spots around the city and being cute. Being excited to share that with him. It's so normal, and they're smiling at him like he's normal. Like the two of them doing something like this could ever be normal. And suddenly he gets overwhelmed in the street and stops for a second while he tries to figure out what the hell he's doing because this is all so new, and he's not sure how to do this. The feeling of shame creeps up again, and he feels like he's going to mess this up somehow. Or he feels guilt for not being a "normal" partner, and holding Tav's hand or kissing them like he suspects he should since everything else is going so perfectly. But just as he begins to doubt himself, Tav appears in front of him beaming and offering him a bottle of scented oil they found at a vendor. He gets confused for a moment, and they ask if he thinks he can turn it into one of his perfumes. It takes him a second to come back to the conversation at hand, but as he looks down at the little bottle and processes Tav's words- all the insecurities fade back into the shadows. Their smile makes his chest burn, and he feels uneasily similar to a little boy without a clue how to talk to the pretty person standing in front of him as he takes their gift. He stumbles through saying thank you. He's positive he looks like an idiot.

Tav having an air of freedom around them that just sucks Astarion in and takes his breath away. The definition of "I do what I want, what are you gonna do about it." At first, Astarion was put off by some of the nice things Tav did. Thought they were stupid for sticking their neck out. But now he admires how they commit to whatever course of action they've chosen, and find a way to pull it off nearly every time. He finds it inspiring, even if he doesn't always agree with it. He's realizing that for all he has freedom now, he never knows what to do with it. Seeing Tav wield theirs like a weapon makes his chest ache.

Astarion wanting to communicate that they're an item and that Tav is his person, but not always being comfortable doing traditional couple things- especially in public. So he finds other ways to mark his territory. Like a cat scratching a couch. He embroiders EVERYTHING Tav owns. Tav is a walking bill board for Astarion's talent. It doesn't necessarily communicate Tav is "his" to a random passer by, but there's something about knowing that a part of him is always with them now. Plus he got a huge rush the first time he gave them an embroidered gift. The way they beamed and put it on immediately and strutted around like it was the nicest thing they'd ever owned had him a little addicted to getting that reaction out of them.

He does the same thing with making them custom perfumes with scents that have "the language of flowers" meanings he picks out just for them.

Intimacy with out intimacy. This works well for my Tav who went to prison and grew up an urchin, but idk how applicable it is universally. Astarion likely is used to having very little privacy. Between the barrack's at Cazador's and in his own words, his prostitution. A lot of people in these situations get to a point where naked bodies are just naked bodies. My Tav is also very used to no privacy for intimate stuff like changing or bathing or taking a shit cause of her experiences of homelessness and sharing a cell. So idk. Astarion taking baths with his partner at the same time but not necessarily together, and realizing that they're perfectly content to just get the job done and get out and aren't even batting an eyelash at being naked around eachother. It doesn't mean anything. They're not trying anything. Its just a body, and they want to get this done so they can eat some of Gale's stew and go to bed

Sitting quietly on a couch together while your character fiddles with their own hobby and he embroiders. He's never felt as safe as being able to enjoy the quiet comfort of someone's soothing presence. They don't even look at him, but they don't leave. They're here, sitting with him. Because sitting with him is enough. They're not here because they want to look at him. Because he's pretty and they want him. They're not here because they want him to touch them. They just want to sit with him. And that is enough.

villain!disney song yuu brainrot (i apologize in advance)

disney song yuu is mostly written with a disney prince(ss)-esque personality, with the occasional villain moment, but imagine them with a more,, morally gray type personality

a yuu that, as soon as they realize the power they hold, immediately starts thinking of ways to use it to their advantage. i mean- they’ve been dropped into a different dimension, with no magic (which, by the way, is a very necessary thing here), and everyone at this godforsaken school has enough baggage to match their egos, and absolutely no emotional intelligence whatsoever. who says they can’t level the playing field a bit? they deserve a bit of fun.

this yuu is craftier, more self serving, and egotistical with the wits to match. who knew their passion for singing would become such an asset? a little hum and a few lyrics could get them an A+ on their potions assignment, or finally get grim to shut up, or sick a murder of crows on their enemies! Fun!

oh, i have admirers? a fan club? a literal cult following? some people actually think i’m a god??? all according to keikaku “how peculiar! i’m flattered, really, but i don’t think i’ve done anything that notable! i’m only doing what i can, just like everyone else~!” *bats eyelashes innocently*

that graceful, charming act might fool a stranger, but anyone that knows yuu knows. they may be calm, and collected, they may be reserved, they may be polite, so unlike many of the brash and bold students of nrc, but yuu isn’t harmless. people listen when they speak, they’re charismatic, sharp, they could talk anyone into a corner with that melodious, alluring voice of theirs. they’re beautiful in the way that a rolling tide or a waning moon is, almost unnoticeable, they simply blend into the background, until suddenly you see them and you can't look away. 

animals of all types seem attracted to them. sometimes they’re songbirds, or woodland creatures, but most of the time they’re crows, snakes, vultures and insects; cawing and hissing along to the prefect’s smooth, rich voice. 

the sun seems to slink back into the clouds when they sing, the wind blows, cool and soft, the birds stop chirping and all is silent, as if nature itself was listening intently. their voice is heavenly, angelic. ghostly, haunting, and almost inhuman; cold as ice, dark as ink, reverberating through the air like a lone, howling breeze on an otherwise silent winter night. yet strong and firm, rumbling like thunder, seeping through your skin like a burning warmth, echoing through your ribcage and electrifying your very own heart. 

but this yuu isn’t evil. that’s the reason they’re so popular, yuu may not be nice all the time, but they’re kind, they’re not weak, but they’re forgiving. they return what they are given- grace for grace, malice for malice. despite their cocky jabs, they love their friends, despite their seeming coldness, they help those in need.

mysterious, powerful, captivating, endearing, a little bit intimidating, and entirely unique, that’s the ramshackle prefect.

just don’t piss them off.

Oh Yuu has plenty of reasons to be a rogue villian, and NRC doesn't mind this feral god commiting world domination if they wanted to (Malleus will hands down let Yuu be his emperess if they expressed interest in the Thorn Kingdom).

They liked this morally grey Yuu using everything in their arsenal to survive because it shows off how NRC they are and HA TAKE THAT RSA BASTARDS YUU'S OURS THROUGH AND THROUGH.

Protagonist-centric readers will do anything but admit that their MCs did lie and impact other characters' decisions. It's not the side-characters fault that they did not know the whole truth because *drum roll* they weren't told anything and/or was deliberately lied to.

LQQ being hated bc he impaled XL in a coffin for a long time but like... XL admitted to killing the King of Yong'an and committing the bloody massacre so what was LQQ supposed to do? Sit down and ask his Guoshi for the truth when we know damn well XL will just continue to admit to it? XL didn't want to tell LQQ the truth to protect LQQ and the two groups of people, and that's completely admirable, but what LQQ saw was his Guoshi stabbing a sword through his father's chest and admitting to everything so him reacting the way he did was completely valid. The single act of killing the king was treason 100x already, and as the son of the king, LQQ's reaction was not out of the ordinary. we don't want XL to suffer and be even more traumatized, but XL already knew that the consequences wouldn't be pretty and lied anyway. idk why fans can't grasp that.

Or for JC's case, HE IS LITERALLY THE ONE PERSON ALIVE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WHO ACTUALLY DESERVES SOME KIND OF EXPLANATION FROM WWX HIMSELF, THE MAN WHO ACCIDENTALLY CAUSED WN TO KILL JXZ AND INDIRECTLY KILLED JYL DESPITE CLAIMING THAT HE HAD EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL. These two aren't strangers to JC at all; they're his sister and his brother-in-law, or more importantly, his sister's beloved husband and father of his nephew. He deserves to be angry and bitter at the one person who did all that, and there is no time limit for how long he should remain bitter and angry about it. The GCT was a whole mess and they both made HUGE sacrifices out of love but the only one whose sacrifice is made invalid is JC because one, it was short-lived and two, they already didn't like JC so no matter what he does for WWX, it will be seen as something negative.

I don't even want to get into the hell-hole regarding LXC but... damn...

the revelations after a character found out the truth should be "oh man, so that's what really happened" not "this character was a dick because they didn't know about the major sacrifice the MC made for them that would only be revealed many years later, and it's not even voluntary because someone else told the truth, not the MC themself"

I'm not the first nor am I the last person to say this but a protagonist is just a character we see, mainly, from their POV or the character that we follow the story through. That's all there is to it. I feel like a lot of danmei readers have yet to read a variety of stories about an MC that's completely shit but serves to tell a story just as important and interesting.

i'll be honest, it is really only relatively recently that i've fully come to realise how completely Jiang Cheng deserves an explanation or even just acknowledgement of any kind from Wei Wuxian, and how cowardly and selfish it is that Wei Wuxian refuses to give it. and I say this with a heart full of love for WWX-- he is dealing with Some Trauma (tm) but that doesn't mean his refusal to even speak to JC isn't hurtful and unfair, even if it's what he needs... but man everyone in fandom and fanworks is focused on WWX taking what he needs in this situation and not even remotely considering that just maybe he also justifiably owes something to someone he harmed and who he supposedly (formerly?) cared about (i think he still cares)

The Copper Beeches pt 2

I observed that he sat frequently for half an hour on end, with knitted brows and an abstracted air, but he swept the matter away with a wave of his hand when I mentioned it. "Data! data! data!" he cried impatiently. "I can't make bricks without clay." And yet he would always wind up by muttering that no sister of his should ever have accepted such a situation.

Holmes is worried. He really does seem to always worry about women in potentially abusive situations. This is also why the werid Enola Holmes law suit was weird, btw. The argument for that was that Holmes wasn't depicted as caring about women until the later works, which were not out of copyright, yet this was published in 1892. He's literally referencing a theoretical sister here in a way that clearly shows he would be a concerned brother.

"Please be at the Black Swan Hotel at Winchester at midday to-morrow," it said. "Do come! I am at my wit's end. HUNTER.

I love the tone of this telegram. It's got that 'please' at the beginning, to be polite, but then at the end it's less 'I'm scared' and more exasperation.

"That will do very nicely. Then perhaps I had better postpone my analysis of the acetones, as we may need to be at our best in the morning."

Alas, the acetones will have to wait. Holmes is both willing to postpone his chemistry, but also concerned that he will need to be his best.

By eleven o'clock the next day we were well upon our way to the old English capital.

Such a weird little historical note there. London's been the capital city of England since... Idk... around the Normal conquest in 1066? I don't know if there's an exact date. Most people these days wouldn't even know that Winchester used to be an important city, but Watson's just slipping that in there.

Holmes had been buried in the morning papers all the way down, but after we had passed the Hampshire border he threw them down and began to admire the scenery. It was an ideal spring day, a light blue sky, flecked with little fleecy white clouds drifting across from west to east. The sun was shining very brightly, and yet there was an exhilarating nip in the air, which set an edge to a man's energy. All over the countryside, away to the rolling hills around Aldershot, the little red and grey roofs of the farm-steadings peeped out from amid the light green of the new foliage.

Another lovely description of the scenery and the weather. Everything's so nice. What a lovely day to prevent a crime. And Holmes taking time to look at the scenery.

"You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there."

Holmes is super optimistic. This entire speech about the country is why Midsomer Murders exists. Lolol. Look at the idyllic countryside, just full of crime and violence.

"But look at these lonely houses, each in its own fields, filled for the most part with poor ignorant folk who know little of the law."

I feel like that's a little rude of you. I'm pretty sure that even in the countryside people know that murder and theft are illegal.

"I have devised seven separate explanations, each of which would cover the facts as far as we know them."

I want to know what these seven explanations are. I really do.

"In the first place, I may say that I have met, on the whole, with no actual ill-treatment from Mr and Mrs Rucastle."

I feel like this is more luck than anything else. The man is very creepy. We have not yet met the wife, but if she is anything like her husbad described her, she too is very creepy.

"I have gathered that they have been married about seven years, that he was a widower, and that his only child by the first wife was the daughter who has gone to Philadelphia. Mr Rucastle told me in private that the reason why she had left them was that she had an unreasoning aversion to her stepmother."

The fact that she's a stepmother doesn't fill me with confidence in this matter. Still not sure Alice isn't buried under the floorboards. Not to malign stepparents, but in stories like this, they're often the bad guys.

"Mrs Rucastle seemed to me to be colourless in mind as well as in feature. She impressed me neither favourably nor the reverse. She was a nonentity. It was easy to see that she was passionately devoted both to her husband and to her little son. Her light grey eyes wandered continually from one to the other, noting every little want and forestalling it if possible."

This is the most insulting description of a person. She's just nothingness personified. Although this in itself is unsettling. The fact that her husband seems to have such a big personality and she just fades into the background and tries to pre-empt his needs. Eeeh... I'm getting weird vibes. Maybe she's just a naturally retiring and quiet person. But it feels more like a woman who is scared of upsetting her husband. We once again have only the husband's reported word that Alice left because of her.

And sometimes she's just found crying?

Yeeeah. I'm not into this. Nope. Not good.

More than once I have surprised her in tears. I have thought sometimes that it was the disposition of her child which weighed upon her mind, for I have never met so utterly spoiled and so ill-natured a little creature. He is small for his age, with a head which is quite disproportionately large. His whole life appears to be spent in an alternation between savage fits of passion and gloomy intervals of sulking. Giving pain to any creature weaker than himself seems to be his one idea of amusement, and he shows quite remarkable talent in planning the capture of mice, little birds, and insects.

Ah, our earlier suspicions about the child are accurate, it seems. This is a serial killer in the making. If this were a modern story he would have killed his older sister by pushing her down the stairs and his parents would be covering it up.

I don't know where the creepy servants come in. Maybe they just don't like the Rucastles because they're serial killers?

"'Oh, yes,' said he, turning to me, 'we are very much obliged to you, Miss Hunter, for falling in with our whims so far as to cut your hair. I assure you that it has not detracted in the tiniest iota from your appearance. We shall now see how the electric-blue dress will become you. You will find it laid out upon the bed in your room, and if you would be so good as to put it on we should both be extremely obliged.'"

Creeeeepy creepy creepy creepy. Just skin-crawlingly creepy. Don't comment on her appearance, dickhead. This is just a whole pile of weird.

"The dress which I found waiting for me was of a peculiar shade of blue. It was of excellent material, a sort of beige"

I've looked up beige but I still don't really understand what this means, because yes it did used to refer to a fabric, but the fabric was specifically undyed wool. This fabric is definitely dyed, so... Is it a woollen dress?

"...then Mr Rucastle, walking up and down on the other side of the room, began to tell me a series of the funniest stories that I have ever listened to. You cannot imagine how comical he was, and I laughed until I was quite weary."

So he wants her to dress up pretty and listen to his stand-up routine?

"They were always very careful, I observed, to turn my face away from the window, so that I became consumed with the desire to see what was going on behind my back. At first it seemed to be impossible, but I soon devised a means. My hand-mirror had been broken, so a happy thought seized me, and I concealed a piece of the glass in my handkerchief."

I'm always so happy when the people who come to Holmes do their own detective work. Like Mr Melas in the last story, getting the information out of poor Paul under the villains' noses. Miss Hunter here is not just accepting what's going on, she's trying to actively decipher it. Alas, her subterfuge is discovered and she is turned into an active participant in whatever game the Rucastles are playing on the man in the street outside.

Interesting that Mrs Rucastle is the one who takes the initiative here. Clearly she's not as silent a partner in this as she appears.

"'It's only Carlo, my mastiff. I call him mine, but really old Toller, my groom, is the only man who can do anything with him. We feed him once a day, and not too much then, so that he is always as keen as mustard. Toller lets him loose every night, and God help the trespasser whom he lays his fangs upon. For goodness' sake don't you ever on any pretext set your foot over the threshold at night, for it's as much as your life is worth.'"

Ah good. Animal cruelty and oblique threats to her life. That's what we like to see. 'We essentially starve our dog to make sure he's aggressive' is such a dick move. I can see where little Edward gets his animal cruelty from. A chip off the old block, that one.

This family is just so messed up.

Holmes has connections with loads of people, he must know someone who needs a governess and isn't a complete nightmare of a person.

"The very first key fitted to perfection, and I drew the drawer open. There was only one thing in it, but I am sure that you would never guess what it was. It was my coil of hair."

Yep, that's Alice's hair. I don't think I remember Alice being buried under the floorboards, but I honestly wouldn't put it past these people.

"There was one wing, however, which appeared not to be inhabited at all. A door which faced that which led into the quarters of the Tollers opened into this suite, but it was invariably locked."

Oooooh. Alice is locked in the secret wing of the house. How very Bluebeard.

I once saw him carrying a large black linen bag with him through the door.

The mind does automatically go to 'body', doesn't it? I don't think it is a body, but that is what I thought immediately on reading this.

Violet Hunter does pretty much all the leg work in this story. She works out that there's someone behind her, she discovers the forbidden rooms, she sneaks into them. She gets so close to discovering the truth and then...

I turned and ran—ran as though some dreadful hand were behind me clutching at the skirt of my dress. I rushed down the passage, through the door, and straight into the arms of Mr Rucastle, who was waiting outside.

Well... this isn't going to end well.

"'My dear young lady! my dear young lady!'—you cannot think how caressing and soothing his manner was—'and what has frightened you, my dear young lady?' "But his voice was just a little too coaxing. He overdid it. I was keenly on my guard against him."

Glad to see that she's finally seeing through him and has the sense not to tell him what she saw. Although she probably shouldn't have left the door open.

"'Well, then, you know now. And if you ever put your foot over that threshold again'—here in an instant the smile hardened into a grin of rage, and he glared down at me with the face of a demon—'I'll throw you to the mastiff.'"

The biggest problem with Psycho Pass is it couldn’t generate a new audience as time progressed.Of course cyberpunk social commentary with philosophical references is a very niche genre in itself.But people both Japan and overseas practically rejected the third season.Which doesn’t bode well for the series’s longevity.Because from my understanding the torch have been passed to legacy charecters already.The recent release and psycho fes made it abundantly clear that the audience for psycho pass are all from 2012-15 era who are only there for the OG squad.They don’t necessarily like or care for PP3 charecters.Releasing PPP in this chronology is weird to me because they already did a soft reboot and the legacy charecters are supposed to be important for the conclusion somehow or I assume so.Shouldn’t they put more effort into making them connect more with the audience?What I find interesting is they are getting a significant number of Kougami x Akane shippers with PPP which I imagine is their worst nightmare scenario for them(I don’t care about their baiting at all)and definitely isn’t something they are looking for.All I am saying is if they are doing legacy they should just commit instead of baiting and make the new gens more well fleshed.But then again that doesn’t guarantee popularity or acceptance either so idk.

I believe the fact that Psycho Pass as a story survived 10 years is largely thanks to our wonderful creators who love the concept and characters so much that they wanted to keep it going.

As we see with most reboots, when the audience gets new characters thrown at them, it's very hard to make an emotional connection to them immediately. My personal opinion on Season 3 (and this my opinion, others may feel differently) is that it was fun. I wasn't too emotionally invested, - I could casually watch it. There was some great choreography with Arata's parkour and the fight scenes; and of course I was there to inhale any legacy cast crumbs that were sprinkled in. I actually re-watched Season 1 recently and there was definitely a stark contrast in how I felt about the separate installments.

I do understand a potential reason to release PP3 + FI before PPP may be to have the audience grow some interest in the new cast before the release of such an $$$expensive$$$ insane budget and frame rate film.

I think the characters definitely have potential. Arata is criminally asymptomatic and Kei is an immigrant who "chose" to live under sibyl (although with all the turmoil outside of Japan, it maybe wasn't a choice), those could be interesting stories if developed properly.

The rise in Ko x Akane shippers is something that also intrigues me. Then again, I don't have any numbers on hand nor have I performed any statistical analysis to claim that it's significant [Disclaimer]. I have a ~theory~ that perhaps the studio and the marketing team especially thought of highlighting our heterosexual "couple" as a promotional tactic. I recall reading how this was an issue with Suzume, where Makoto Shinkai no longer wanted to write anymore screenplays with hetero couples because he felt he already exhausted everything he had to say on that, but his higher ups insisted, so we ended up with a male lead who was a chair during 75% of the film. That being said, I don't know what the PPP creators were expecting even if this was just a marketing strategy... I don't think anyone in the room thought: "let's release a 4K HD highly detailed screencap of Kougami and Akane literally on top of each other in the premiere handout - yeah people will definitely only see them as purely professionally colleagues from that" (I have to admire the detail on that photo, because everything down to the broken glass and reflection on the glossy floor definitely looks like hours of work that an overwhelmed artist did with their own 2 hands). With that and all the interviews containing denial of them ever being an official couple, I suspect there's some disconnect among the team as a whole... but who knows - I wasn't invited to this meeting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now, my biggest critique is that the story with our legacy characters wasn't formally concluded before they introduced the new squad, and that's frustrating. Because now, we're stuck in the middle where both sets need to get some level of attention - and that's expensive. Drawing, writing, voicing this huge cast. The PPP character list is probably the most amount that Psycho Pass has had to work with in a single installment, so it was a reach endeavor to say the least. However, the general thoughts on Akane is that her character arc will be complete after PPP. She's reached her resolve and will likely serve as only a support or a mentor going forward (if we ever get more PP that is).

I am excited to see Providence regardless of the mixed feelings on it. From all the content that has been released, one thing is certain to me: this movie was made with a lot of love. For the world-building, the characters, the emotions, the fans. That's not something I can say about most films these days - especially animated films (particularly in the West). So I will thoroughly enjoy the everything out of this.

That being said, although I want more PP content, I think there should only be one more installment (whether it's a movie or season) to wrap up the rest of the story with Bifrost/Peacebreakers/Kei&Arata's motives that were left open-ended in PPFI. Having something go on forever is worrisome, because it's hard to keep the momentum up for so long - especially on the creative team's part (unless it's One Piece I suppose). I just want all the characters to have proper epilogues and leave the rest up to interpretation by the audience. Ending strong is always more noteworthy in my book - because that's the most recent impression that people will have after consuming the content, so it's very crucial to nail the third act even if we mess up in the middle. If we end on Providence (& Psycho FES if we count that), then judging by the Japanese audience reception so far - it seems like a strong endpoint. I'll be content with that.

going to dump my thoughts on sunu sumu muriku no koibito here because the sooner i do the sooner i can move on from this. content warning for transphobia and sexual assault.

this manga feels like a story written by a cishet dude so far up his ass he thinks he knows the first thing about trans women and other queer identities even though he doesn’t know shit and won’t bother to go out of his way to do any research or actually talk to any queer people. this was already my impression of him after wonder egg priority so it’s amazing how little he changed within a decade. i really hate that not once are we allowed to sit in the trans girl’s interiority or view the narrative from her perspective. we're always seeing events through the lens of the male protagonist who's her childhood friend. and to make matters even worse, NOT once is she ever allowed agency over her life in any way, shape or form. she's NEVER allowed to make any meaningful decisions about her life. the entire series is just about her childhood friends constantly making life decisions for her, supposedly to make her happy, and she just sits in the corner like an emotional toy for them to either admire or lust after. even when she travels to thailand for her bottom surgery it's because everyone collected money for her and pushed her to do it. there's literally not a single moment where she's allowed to be proactive and do something because she wants to do it.

and then the worst part comes after she goes through with her bottom surgery. she basically becomes hysterical and has these panic attacks where she acts as though she's possessed because, uhhh, fuck if i know. they didn't even bother to explain anything about it other than some bullshit about an s gene that makes people feel anxious and guilty after “committing crimes” (the implications here are pretty yikes as you can probably tell) and there’s also something about how she needs a “transplant of the heart”. this is all resolved by her opening up to the male protagonist about how she's being "punished" by god because she rejected the body he gave her by transitioning (i hate this btw), and in order to help her he makes her refer to herself with "watashi" instead of "boku", then it’s implied he fucks her newly constructed vagina until he tears open the stitches, which causes her to bleed and almost die. which is. literally what. i’m not sure what my takeaway from this is even supposed to be. but now he needs to go on a trip to find his “heart” again because he gave her his or something. what the fuck is this even saying. that he cured her trauma by raping her in her hospital bed and making her nearly bleed out to death???? i say rape because the consent is REALLY dubious in this moment and it makes me feel very uncomfortable... even if it were supposed to be consensual (which i doubt) this isn’t great. is the point that everything is okay because she was allowed to have sex with a man?????? there’s a subplot before about how she’s jealous of the male protagonist’s girlfriends because they don’t need to make effort to be girls and be liked by him so it reads as though they’re saying she became content as a girl after letting a man fuck her????? i’m VERY confused. i also hate everything about this. if you can’t tell. i hope you can though.

there's also another character and they’re a "girl" who identifies as bisexual but it feels like the manga is conflating that with transness because they say since this person is willing to fuck any man or woman who's pretty then that means they have the body of a woman but the heart of a man and it feels like they’re meant to foil the trans girl. their conclusion is getting infected with HIV/AIDs btw so uh. that’s very fun. there’s also a bit where the male protagonist compares a trans woman wearing the girls’ school uniform to journalists beheaded in iraq or something while trying to convince everyone else to let her do it. idk what the fuck i just put myself through but i know i made myself feel very horrible lmao.

never let this man cook with lgbt identities or women or anything ever again. also i’m going to actually kill anyone who tells me to give wonder egg priority the benefit of doubt. it was at the cost of making myself more mentally ill but at least i have knowledge now.

What I Love About Iruma

Guys. We see Yun's TRUE nature right there. He loves and cares for all, but tries to play tough and act like he doesn't gahhhhhhhh. That's what I love and admire most about him

I just want to say, I knew it would happen but it’s still gross to see the double standards, but how Maya and wahaj were raked over the coals for their mushq photoshoot but YumHaj and even Hamza and Seher are getting tons of praise for their equally as scandalous poses is …super amusing. I’ve never seen quite as much misogyny come from other women as I did for maya in that one photo shoot, but other actresses doing the exact same thing is ok because that’s a fan favorite pair. (Also, I think it’s stupid how our awaam cannot fathom a pairing outside of a recent hit; people complain about wahaj and his “overexposure” post TB, but they also don’t want him to be anything besides Murtasim. Like bro needs to act with others, too, but the audience out there behaves like someone committed blasphemy when an actor from a hit pairing acts with someone else.). To be clear, I don’t want any actress receiving hate for doing her job, it’s just sad how blatant the hate was and for such a stupid reason that Maya wasn’t yumna.

And also I’m just gonna say it—nobody in any recent photo shoot had the chemistry of maya and wahaj. You can just tell how comfortable they are with each other. They did hot, innocent, longing, surprise, admiration…literally everything. What range, yo. Even if for notorious reasons, people are still talking about the Mushq photo shoot while their faves’ photo sessions came and went without making any waves sorry not sorry.

Finally, I’ve been seeing people start to blame Maya for the downfall of wahaj post-TB, as if she forced him to sign MPHT, Mein, etc. Like it is so ridiculous out there, we are blaming a woman instead of holding a grown ass actor accountable for not choosing better roles.

i have this shit behavior happen across the board again and again that I now consciously try to be numb to it. it's always the same. blame the woman. blame her for coming in between a ship. or blame her for being close to the man. or blame her for just existing. in all cases the man is the bechara masoom who doesn't know any better. it's the woman who has trapped him. it's the woman being insecure. it's the woman controlling his every action. never man, never him. and of course it's always the women who blame the woman.

you didn't mention Anmol Baloch here. Hamza Sehar fans are also hating on her because Hamza did the ghor paap of working with her and promoting his show with her. idk how true the rumors of their relationship are; they shouldn't MEAN anything. like any other pairing, Anmol and Hamza had all the right to do photoshoots in character to promote on their insta pages. that is not a right reserved just for their fav jodi. ANY fav jodi. these are actors. it's the world of social media. promotion on their public accounts is now a part of their JOB. they are all fucking PAID for it. and when money is involved, more times than less it becomes the main motivation. if these fans think their favs don't ask for money to promote their certain fav jodi because that's where their "true love and passion" lies then..i don't even know what to say.

and really I pity Wahaj as well. his own "fans" are close to blackmailing him to not expand his boundaries at all. him doing multiple photoshoots is "overexposure" but him doing them with Yumna is "using the small window of opportunity of being the most popular thing in the industry to its maximum benefit." arey??? it just comes down to what kind of fandom one has amassed over their career. like if on one hand Wahaj fans are criticizing his overexposure, MK fans are making flippant comments about inflation that has made MK do back to back three bridal campaigns. hypocrisy? i don't even wanna care.

frankly i am TIRED of searching Maya's name and seeing it just in connection with Wahaj. i love Mushq. MY BESTIE SERVED ME IN WAYS I CANNOT EXPLAIN! just last night i was rewatching the clips and oh my HEART it's beautiful beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFULLLLLL!! but i have to admit i HATE how Maya's entire existence has been shrunk to that photoshoot only. she's being used both by the yumhaj fans and the non-yumhaj fans as a weapon to use to attack others or defend their own favs. i doubt any one really cares about HER because then i'd actually see her be talked about individually or her projects. but no. it's always "they have been friends for years". like yes so WHAT? baar baar mention karna zaroori hai???

it's just no use trying to sense with these kind of people. i can only hope we get an official annoucement of Maya's next work again so she can leave this behind.

The paragon of light, swallowed whole by the scion of darkness in a sea of blood. It would shame the story of Eve and the Serpent. I gotta toss my two favorite colonels at you for the ask game: Horacio Carrillo and Hugo Martinez!

Horacio Carrillo-

First impression: I was definitely biased because I was just coming off seeing Maurice Compte in Mayans so as soon as Carrillo came on screen in the pilot I was instantly 👀 tuned in. His little opening scene with Javi definitely didn’t prepare me for the spiral that his character would end up taking in the show.

Impression now: He’s done so many things wrong and I just love him for it 😂 

Favorite moment: The scene with him and his wife eating together at the restaurant is a classic for sure. I also looooove the scenes when he first comes back from Madrid. When it’s all about making a statement that he’s back. I wish y’all could’ve seen my live reaction to it. I was borderline giddy 😂

Idea for a story: I have a plot-bunny running around my head and it’s partially a Horacio x OC fic but it’s also a Javi x OC fic where Javi ends up dating one of Carrillo’s exes. Will I ever do anything with it? Who knows! 😂 But I think about it every now and then.

Unpopular opinion: People don’t gotta like how Carrillo handled things towards the end but the man committed to the bit. I’ll give him that. I think that if he had someone who could successfully keep him in check, maybe he wouldn’t have gone out like he did but I guess we’ll never know.

Favorite relationship: I am soooooo curious about what his and Javi’s relationship was like before Steve got there and changed up the dynamics a bit. Because I feel like Carrillo didn’t really have “friends” per se, but Javier was pretty close to it.

Favorite headcanon: I definitely touched on it in the last fic I wrote for him, but I firmly believe that Carrillo is a petty ex. 😂 He’s cold and calculated and all of that on the job but I think that he can easily flip that switch in his personal life too and if things end either not on great terms or not on his terms, that’s exactly what he’s like.

Hugo Martinez-

First impression: I felt so bad for him. Right off the rip. This man wanted nothing to do with any of it but he couldn’t leave his son hanging so he followed through. How can you not fall in love with that a little bit?

Impression now: I think that more than anything, the man deserves a break. I hope he got one. I hope he went and relaxed on a beach somewhere far away from all the bullshit. For what little we got of Martinez, I really liked his character.

Favorite moment: I think my favorite moment is always going to be the last little exchange between he and Javi. It just pulls at my heartstrings. “You did everything right, but now you are all alone.” Fuck me up.

Idea for a story: I think alllll the time about the headcanons we were talking about before where he goes off and travels and maybe falls in love a little bit. I think about that on bad days to make myself smile.

Unpopular opinion: Idk if it’s an unpopular opinion but I think we deserved way more of both Martinez and his son in the show. I think that him following up a character like Carrillo was a tough shift to have in some ways but I still really enjoyed what he brought to it all.

Favorite relationship: Him and his son, hands-down, no contest. And after reading Manhunters and hearing how much respect irl Steve and Javi had for Martinez and his son, it made me admire their dynamic that much more.

Favorite headcanon: I love the idea that his wife is just an opposite to him in all of the best ways. Picturing him with a bubbly, out-going partner just puts a smile on my face. That type of balance in a relationship between partners but also between parents is I think why Martinez Jr turned out so sweet.
