here's that essay i accidently hyped up (sorry) on how fionna & cake did a poor job of concluding betty & simons characters + story in the final 2 episodes. sorry it is so insanely long. i don't know what my deal is. sometimes a show just does such a bad job of handling your favorite characters that you have to write 19k+ words complaining about it, i guess. im linking it as a pdf bc i DO NOT want to have 2 copy & paste this all over to tumblr & i kinda don't think tumblr would be happy with me making a post that long.

Look me dead in the eye and tell me you want to hear the exact same 1 to 3 minute loop of notes over and over and over for several hours while you're trying to do literally anything at all.

Like- completionists, you're going to all the shrines [120 in botw, 152 in totk], collecting all the korok seeds [900 in botw, 1000 in totk], doing side quests, finishing your hyrule compendium and so on. That takes a long ass time, do you really want to hear a song you might not even like for a minimum of 190 hours?

Botw and Totk are very audio focused games in terms of gameplay anyway. The devs put a lot of effort into the sound design of the game. How are you supposed to feel like you're sneaking through a dangerous area when you have a constant tune playing in your ears 24/7.

Besides, with how sparse the main overworld music is, it makes the parts of the game that have actual songs in it count so much more. Instead of having constant noise and 1 or 2 songs that stand out, now you have more impact because the music kicks in when its important for it to be there.

Ik people were probably gonna hate the botw/totk ost if it was like the older games anyway because of those points. So it's a double-edged sword, but the way the ost is now? It's supposed to be like that. It fits the format, the sound design, and the length of the game. Which was the point.

Some of yall deeply underestimate how much some cis men are threatened by trans men and our masculinity. since i started star wars at like 14, i didn’t really get the full political implications or just the innate tragedy of it. it’s not supposed to be a happy story but there’s supposed to be hope. i always thought anakin wasn’t to blame going to the dark like maybe if he had a different master or wasn’t groomed by palpatine but in reality he was a grown ass man with full jedi training that chose to get married (“in secret” bc i swear everyone knew they was fuckin, they just didn’t want to banish him bc they saw him as the chosen one) and chose to kill younglings and massacre an entire people and kill another jedi and turn to the dark side. even if he had really strong emotions and felt things on an insanely intense level bc of midichlorians or whatever he still had full fledged jedi training to be able to control that and yeah the jedi temple was so corrupt in the way they were just cops with telekinetic abilities and fake buddhists but like HES GROWN. no matter what he experienced it was his choice. he was weak and he chose the dark side. so he is not babygirl. he’s hot. but he’s not baby girl. it was over even before he force choked padme cause he killed them kids he said no more jedi too bad so sad.

i never understood padme’s death tho it was kind of a plot hole to me just she just lost the will to live and just died after giving birth like what????even if she is force sensitive (ALLEGEDLY) that’s still crazy. i think it was soley for the anakin-vader plot so that he wouldn’t think of his actions or to maybe (idk if this was on purpose) justify his actions bc he had nothing left.

whatever actually idc.. my point is, i think people whos biggest issue with mental illnesses like the ONE thing they can point to as being a struggle w how theyre treated by other people as a mentally ill person is "nobody believes im seriously mentally ill!" should probably reckon with the idea that, while that may not quite be a systemic privilege per se, thats an advantage they have over other mentally ill people who dont have it easy enough to be invisible and maybe they dont actually know much about the depth of experiences with mental illness.
