ive seen lots of complaints about veilguard that i share, but my biggest one that i haven't seen is that the companions in your party feel... useless to me. in combat, specifically. like, why are they even there.

i guess it works out if you want to try different party combos and want to feel assured that you won't lose every single fight by having an unbalanced team, because your team literally doesn't matter at all... but balancing my party was something ive enjoyed about rpgs and dragon age in the past that i feel like is completely absent from veilguard.

even when playing origins as an arcane warrior and soloing the entire last third game bc arcane warrior was too overpowered, you still really needed your party in the early game. when a party member went down in origins or da2, you felt it. each person made an impact on the fight.

there's not a single fight ive done in my playthroughs of veilguard where i felt like my companions actually mattered. every fight was a solo event. the only difference the companions made was that sometimes having davrin in my party meant i didn't have to be my own tank for the entire fight, just most of the fight. but i still aggro'ed every enemy anyway by doing the most damage in every fight by a huge margin.

even on higher difficulty im struggling to see why my party matters at all. fighting a dragon today and my companions go down and i don't even notice until one of them says they're ready again because they got revived automatically. oh oops, you contributed so little to this fight i didn't even know you'd died.

like, at one point i literally just ran around in a circle and set my party to attack one enemy, and they made no progress at all because the shield regenerated before they managed to destroy it. what's the point of even having companions come on quests with me if they do fuck nothing?

even after my first game, when i specifically tried to get the companions in more support roles instead of trying for damage builds that were clearly useless, the whole point of them becomes just to cast boosting effects on rook. which remains useless in battle because i don't even need those boosts.

maybe the issue is my play style? maybe there's something here i just don't get? but i don't get it.

Good Timeline Future Mikey, where, by the time he's thirty-nine, he actually looks thirty-nine and not ancient because of mystic overuse (← I fully subscribe to the headcanon that, in the movie, he looks so much older than his actual age because he overexerted his ninpō fighting the Krang)

Nothing wrong with Ancient Mikey! He is very valid and I love him! And my theory is that his future design was supposed to be reminiscent of Splinter's features. BUT I wanted to try my hand at designing what I think Mikey'd look like as a healthy future turtle.

He deserves all the hair.
