It's not a broken and brutalized beast. An attack dog is a lot like a service dog, or a herding dog, or any other dog that has a job. We've gotten very, very good at making dogs that want jobs. So you take a creature we've made to want to be helpful, and you give it purpose. You tell it to chase the man you pointed at. You show it to bite the arm that's raised in front of it. And it will be happy to play the game. It will do all that, and wagging its tail. Might even be healthier, what with the sense of purpose and mental stimulation

Sure, that kind of prolonged exposure to a high stress and violent environment has horrible impacts on the dogs health, obviously. But the act of training a dog to attack isn't what does that to them. A dog who's been attack trained can be hard to differentiate from any ol' domestic one. Granted, of course, that no one points at you, and you don't raise your arm a specific way while in its field of vision.

miscellaneous gideon related doodles ive been doing over the past few days bc my brainrot has set in and its unfortunately terminal. some things:

so ghost-eyes sticks around in gideons life, as do the other prison buddies of his. theyre actually a shockingly good influence. despite being willing to commit crimes whenever, they bring a sort of temperance to gideons more. insane thought processes that stops him from doing anything TOO horrible these days. ghost-eyes especially is his hench-uncle. hes a good egg

also some older gids doodles... he wasnt sure if the pines would ever want to hang out w him after the events of that summer but time smooths over some things. hes capable of being normal around her now but he'd be lying if he said he didnt still have a little flame in his heart when it came to mabel

also do you think he ever just remembers something he did as a kid and is like Hey What The Hell Was That About. because thats the funniest mental image to me. sitting up in bed and going 'ten years ago I made a giant robot'

Got an itch to play Sunless Sea again and it's always such an odd experience because. Like.

I know this game. Any other game, the level if knowledge and research I have put into this would make me a confident fucking master. And yet.

I can be reading text I've read dozens of times before and i still feel...not clueless, but absolutely off the mark. It all feels so familiar and yet I've never seen a victory condition. I've at least started pretty much every storyline but I'll still see something new each time I sink some time into it. I have a fucking JOURNAL of TRADE ROUTES and REQUIRED ITEMS and somehow that's only mildly helpful

That and the fact Fallen London's lore is so fucking batshit and honestly kind of hard to research (thr wiki's are frustratingly structured for me and the browser game is just. A bit inaccessible for me) means I can have a pretty solid understanding of what's going on in each port and what each faction is about and still ZERO FUCKING GRASP ON LITERALLY ANY PLOT

I like how in these past two entries Dracula is just There In the Background.

He's a flying bat, maybe a bird, he's that figure on the seat over there in the distance with the glowing red eyes. This is so different from how he menaced Jonathan (where he was the creepy old man that is Actively Keeping Me Prisoner yet still wants to have nightly chats) or the Demeter crew (where he understand the Nothing is Scarier trope and generally keeps out of sight till the end).

This time, he's just chillaxing in the background because we've had those two instances of different flavors of horror, and now we are thoroughly terrified of him, so just seeing him in the background is enough.

And this kind of tickles me in a weird way because I do so love when you can see the danger. It may not be actively menacing you. In fact, it may be moving away from you. Honestly, you don't even know if it has noticed you, and it's still TERRIFYING.

Like, sure, the idea that the monster is watching you and you not realizing it is scary, but sometimes you watching the monster is worse.

Today (the 30th) is the anniversary of me posting the first chapter of my fic, exes of varying degrees (wow!!) and for some reason, I haven't posted any of the art I've done for it despite drawing uh... There is nothing to add, there is no hidden message. Damocles speaks for itself. This song is so raw. It's just him. Just Vessel, and not the persona, just the guy. A guy that is carrying such an immense weight.

To want everything you've given, everyrhing you've worked for, to be remembered, but to not want to be known. To have this success, but to be scared that it could all just vanish. To feel like you have to constantly keep making things bigger and better than before. To fight those silent battles day in and day out even though everything is seemingly wonderful. To feel like you're not sure when it should end, or if it already has.

I hope he knows that we could never forget him. I hope he knows how we appreciate him, not just his art, but HIM. He puts so much of himself into his work, he has poured his soul into all of this, and we see that.

Vess, on the off chance that you're reading this, I hope you're okay. I know that probably sounds hollow, but for what little it's worth, I mean it.
