BTS’s Solo Chapter - Part 3
This post includes my thoughts about the remaining 3 BTS members' solo projects.
💜RM released the 2nd album of the group. His chosen, self-written songs expressed personal feelings and explained his thoughts and views about experiences and situations. While the songs, to me, all fall into a mellow category, they all had different sounds and feels. RM decided to go the route of a collab.-heavy collection of songs. His choice of collaborative partners was eclectic and thoughtful. The collaborators ranged from legends to indie performers and not just from Korea or Asia but from other parts of the world as well. (fun BTS connection: RM’s Indigo collaborator Park Ji Yoon sang the Coming of Age Ceremony song that Jimin and JK did a dance cover to in 2016.) Since RM is a world-class lyricist, his words were rich with his usual imagery, thoughtfulness, and cleverness that is found in much of his work. His album was critically acclaimed, especially from within the music industry. RM ensured himself as the musicians’ musician with this album that flows effortlessly from start to finish with musical ease. As far as promotions, RM decided to stay closer to home and go for a smaller, intimate feel with his performances. He did in-depth one-on-one interviews, a live Tiny Desk performance, 2 videos, 2 visualizers, and a small theater, onstage showcase that included a few of his collaborators as guests. I was also surprised to see an online day-in-the-life video series, where RM guided us through his day and even invited us into his home. He listened to his album with a friend and, of course, continued to speak to fans through Lives. The album and roll out were easy and comfortable in ways that seemed to suit RM to a T. While RM’s promotions did not appear to reach out far, based on size and location, his choice of artists touched a variety of musical genres and global regions in a subtle but expansive way.   [Still Life and Closer are my top favorites.]
💜Jung Kook (JK) had been recording and producing covers of English-spoken, often American, Pop songs for years.  His collection showed that he tended to like romantic and sometimes sad songs.  Like V, JK was known to already have a collection of prepared songs for his album, but seemed to change course for the actual release. Also like V, JK decided to work with ‘outside’ sources for his album, and being new to the process, he seems to have been struggling with pulling a project together. He ended up working with the American branch of Hybe, who gathered songs for JK to choose from. His first 2 pre-released songs seemed heavily influenced by this collaboration. Like the songs or not, it worked out extremely well for JK to put out two very attention-grabbing, upbeat songs that heightened the anticipation of his current fans as well as newfound fans, globally. It appears to me that after those 2 songs, JK took more control of the direction of his album. The remaining songs he selected returned more to the type of Pop songs we had become accustomed to hearing JK sing with his covers. The remaining songs did not have Rap collabs or risqué themes. They were more of the sad and/or romantic songs about feelings that JK tended to like. That is not to say he should not or could not have gone out of his norm, but after the controversies of the content of the 1st two songs and the verses by the 2nd collaborator, it was probably the better option. Even though the rest of JKs album was in the more familiar Pop sound he was known to do, there were many impressive displays that showed the development of his voice, style, and visuals throughout the entire album. Although he originally expected to do a mini EP, JK ended up creating a full length album, and he did so in record time. In only several months, JK had recorded all 11 songs and filmed 3 videos, several live performances, and dance practices too!  In addition to this great feat, JK also completed the album fully in English! A language that is not native to him nor is he fluent in - yet. That is a remarkable achievement, regardless of his late move for starting an album while he was struggling for direction. The pre-released song “7” and the full album did well, garnering the group’s 2nd ever Billboard Hot100 #1 for a Korean soloist, among other earned accomplishments. What made JK’s solo moment stand out from the rest is that, due to his interaction with Hybe America (I think), JKs promotional investments and activities were more extensive than any of the other members. In addition to countless remixes and visualizers, there were other interesting observations. JH did Lollapalooza festival and a listening party; JK did Global Citizens festival and a listening party; JM did an American TV show appearance, JK did an American TV show appearance; V and RM did live sets for Tiny Desk performances, JK did live sets for Audacy (with dancing and storytelling), Suga did a concert, JK did a concert. Yes! In addition to a live broadcasted NY Times Square performance, a solo sit down interview with a well-known journalist, and a live I Heart Radio performance with a band, JK performed a free, live-streamed concert in Seoul with 2,800 present fans and 1.2 million people watching online! It was a whirlwind of numerous high visibility, promotional items, more than seen or expected for a BTS member’s premiere solo debut, and he did it all very well, with grace and fluidity, in spite of the rushed time frame. There were certainly advantages and disadvantages for JK choosing to take that route, but no one can deny that it was an extremely successful venture for JK and Hybe.  [Yes or No and Somebody are my top favorites.]
💜💜Jimin’s (JM’s) album ended up being a cathartic exercise for some emotional stress he had been feeling. The unfortunate moments that caused the stress may have been blessings in disguise because it all became the inspiration for his first solo album. Jimin chose to work with inhouse producers, who have worked with BTS for years. He had actually approached PDogg (lead, veteran Hybe producer) in bad emotional shape and asked for help gathering songs, but PDogg suggested they create the songs together. JM agreed and ended up practically living with PDogg and working with this small production team for almost a year to write and produce the entire album. I have already written about JM’s work so I won’t go into that detail here. I’ll just sum it up to say that it is my favorite album of the solo period. [See my Pre- & Post- Release FACE thoughts & my After Promotion FACE thoughts posts.] Jimin’s album told the chronological story of his anguish, evolution, and triumph throughout his pandemic experience in grand fashion. He showed a larger range of his voice, while still using his recognizable tone and higher pitch. Even his longtime fans were surprised by the different style of songs he used to express himself.  He was directly involved in the lyric writing, composition, and production of every vocalized track. Writing his own songs was a stressful, frustrating, and difficult - but rewarding - process for a first time solo presentation. In spite of the challenge, Jimin really ended up enjoying the process, and the entire experience was captured for Jimin’s Production Diary documentary, which was released on WeVerse [See my Jimin’s Production Diary Documentary thoughts post.].  In addition to these great familiar resources, JM also got help from an expert lyricist, who happens to also be a good friend and BTS member, RM. He also reached out to good friend and BTS lead vocalist, JK, to perform background vocals for a special hidden track. Before promotions began, Jimin helped build anticipation and awareness of the album by releasing multiple video clips of him doing a collection of BTS’s memorable dance choreography to a medley of BTS’s songs. Since JM ended up doing a mini EP album, he had requested that he be able to make a visual album but was rejected. He did complete 2 well-produced & well-received videos and only needed 2 ½ more (½ possibly for the short interlude) (or visualizers?) but was still rejected. We don’t know exactly why. We also don’t know why Jimin’s promotional period was markedly shorter than anyone else’s. It was about 9 days long, in which he did an American TV show appearance as well as a few Korean game shows, a talk show, a radio show and 2 fan events. Eventually, he recorded or performed on a few music shows, and that was about it. Jimin had gotten very thin for his promotional time period and looked exhausted, but happy, during the strenuous preparation and performances. In fact, it has been said he was treated at a hospital for the aggravation of his long standing neck/muscle/back problem while practicing and executing the expected, Jimin-leveled dance performances. Jimin seemed to be enjoying himself but also seemed very shy and nervous performing alone for the first time. Still, he pulled off the work and presentations like the BTS pro he is. In fact, along with other outstanding awards and records, Jimin became BTS’s and Korea’s FIRST soloist in history to debut at Billboard’s Hot100 #1 position, and he accomplished this with a Korean song and no collaboration. Jimin’s album and results surprised everyone - or maybe no one, considering his successful, well-received, previous solo work for BTS. His solo album and performances had been highly anticipated, and he did not disappoint at all.  [Set Me Free, pt 2 and Face-Off are my top favorites.]
I had saved Jung Kook and Jimin’s solo efforts for last because JKs was the last album released and because JM is my bias. Also, their promotional situations became complicatedly linked by being the subject of passionate debate within the fandom, for good or bad. To be discussed in Part 4.
TO BE CONTINUED -- PART 4 TAKES ON THE MORE COMPLICATED OUTCOMES OF THE SOLO ERA AND CONSIDERS THE FUTURE (Chapter 3?)...

Tumblr media
Five-thirty-seven in the morning, grey clouds stretching throughout the sky as you peeked outside the window, falling right above oceans and buildings and people that you couldn’t even see. You sighed as you sank deeper into your chair, closing your eyes and adjusting your earbuds to clear your thoughts that were brought about by your sudden move.
You felt a nudge from beside you, coming from your mother (your dad was long knocked out since earlier), and so you politely pulled the earbuds away. “Excited to come back to Korea?” she asked. You simply responded with a smile and hum.
It wasn’t like you didn’t like the idea of returning— it was the prospect that it did not even feel like you were returning in the first place. Indifference was what you felt. After moving to Los Angeles when you were twelve because of your father’s job, you had to say goodbye to all your friends living in your hometown, all the traditions and customs that you were used to, and all the memories that you have built up in order to get used to a new environment. Seven years later when you thought you were just about to fit in with the west, your father comes out with the news of going back to Seoul again.
So it was difficult to manage a full smile.
You had a thought as you looked down through the window, recognizing a few of the landmarks that stood out: how strange it was to have somewhere that used to be home feel so foreign.
Just as you were about to put in your earbuds back in, your mother suddenly brightened, looking at you with a large smile on her face, eliciting your curious gaze.
“Oh! Do you still remember your old friend Jaemin?”
A smile tugged at your lips. How could you forget him?
Na Jaemin. Nana. Jaems. Your childhood best friend for six years until you were forcibly shipped all the way to LA. You still remembered how hesitant you were to tell him that you were moving because you didn’t want him to cry— only to have you crying and refusing to let go of him until your parent's pried you off of him at the airport. He assured you while wiping away your tears that you’d still get to see him one day.
Maybe that day would actually be one of these days.
“Yeah,” you mumbled, fiddling with the drawstrings of your jacket. “Why? I haven’t been in contact with him for years now.”
“His mom and I talked the other day and I told her that we’re moving back! And just earlier, she told me that Jaemin volunteered to pick us up from the airport so we won’t have to take a cab. Isn’t that great? You’d get to be reunited with your old friend again.”
“Ah,” you paused for a moment, in thought, just before pressing your lips together into a tight smile. “Yeah, it would be nice to see him again.”
That was what you said, but even until you left the plane, lugging your baggage across the cold floors of the airport with your music at full volume to drown out the noise, you were actually rather conflicted about meeting him again. A lot could happen within seven years, and therefore there was no assurance that things would still be the same. You weren’t sure if he’d still be the same sweet boy that was determined to fight the park swings after you fell and cried, if he’d still be the same kid that stopped talking to you for three days because you tricked him into eating a strawberry flavored lollipop. Maybe he’d still be, maybe he wouldn’t, but it was exactly that uncertainty that made you feel uneasy.
Still, there was still a hint of excitement, a string that tugged your heart away from all the uneasiness, just enough to bring a smile to your face at the thought of seeing him again.
“Y/N, let’s go?”
Your father called out to you and you didn’t even realize that you have actually stopped walking amidst your musings.
“Oh, yeah I—” you stumbled in between the ever moving airport crowd, looking down to see your shoelace had become undone, and so you let go of your suitcase. “You two go ahead, I’ll catch up in a sec!”
You ducked down, right beside the large, grey case to fix it, lips pursed in concentration. People passed by without minding you too much, but at one instance, just as you had finished retying your shoelace, your suitcase moved away from you with a shadow looming from above. Panic struck, and so you jolted up, instincts forcing your hand to move, quickly grabbing the handle. There was another hand resting on it. Your eyes moved up to meet with the culprit's.
Weirdly enough, he was just as shocked as you are.
Even weirder— he looked way, way too attractive to be a thief. Or maybe that was the modus these days? Still, you harshly dragged back the suitcase, ripping it away from his grasp with a glare. “What the fuck—”
At that moment, you recalled your mother’s words. Jaemin volunteered to pick us up from the airport. This guy looked a little too much like your old friend from your old neighborhood.
It felt like you were looking into the exact same large, dark eyes that used to be always accompanied by a pretty smile, now matched by a mouth hanging slightly agape from surprise. He even had the same dark hair that always messily fell over his eyes. There was a moment of pause in between the rush of bodies, the both of you in a frozen trance staring at each other until you had finally realized that motherfucker— this was Na Jaemin.
When did he get so hot?
“I—”
He flashed you a smile. The same damned smile. It brought you to the conclusion that seven years really didn’t do anything except make him far too attractive for his own good. All of a sudden you felt self-conscious about your own appearance as you gawked at him. God really liked to play favorites, huh?
You could see him say something, his lips moving just enough to represent a few words, but it was muffled thanks to the blaring music. Your confusion reflected clearly on your face contorting, and Jaemin only shook his head and laughed before reaching his hands to your face, bringing you to a momentary halt of haywire because what the actual fuck was he doing.
“You shouldn’t listen to music too loudly in public,” he said, pulling your earbuds out of your ears and gingerly placing them into your open palms with a smile. Holy fuck, his voice got so deep. “I’ve been calling out to you since earlier, but you couldn’t hear. Let’s go, your parents are waiting.”
Before you could even try to recollect yourself from the sudden crashing of events, Jaemin took your suitcase in your stead, leading you to his car.
Tumblr media
If you still weren’t sure whether or not this was Na Jaemin from your past, you were now because although a bit watered down, he was just as excessively weird and sweet as he was ages ago. You found yourself feeling stupid for even doubting it in the first place. Of course, he was still the same; he even chirps your name in the same way as he always did before.
“There we go,” with a huff, the trunk came to a close. He threw your suitcase in there after seeing your mini struggle episode with far too little effort for your peace of mind. “You should just ask me next time. Okay, Y/N?”
“Thanks,” you gave him a small nod, flustered when he pinched your left cheek while making a questionable noise, and he opened the car door for you to enter.
Maybe it was you that had changed.
You were fairly quiet throughout the car ride while your parents and Jaemin decided to catch up after everything, only listening and giving your reactions whenever needed. You weren’t a morning person and your jetlag wasn’t doing you of any help either.
“You’re in your third year, right Jaemin?” your father asked, sitting at the front seat as your mother and you sat behind.
“Yep, yep,” he happily replied.
“Time really does fly fast, doesn’t it?” your mother joined in. “What uni do you go to, Jaemin?”
“Ah,” he sounded, eyes still directed on the road. “NCT U. It’s the closest at home, and I didn’t really wanna move out.”
“Oh, what a coincidence! Y/N isn’t that where you’re planning on going, too?”
“Really?” you could see Jaemin’s eyes brighten from the mirrors. “Y/N, do you want me to help you with your requirements? Have you enrolled already? I can give you a tour if you want!”
He’s really the same. You thought, smiling. “It’s fine, Jaemin. I already enrolled and took care of everything online.”
“But I should still tour you, though!” he retorted, the pout and whine evident in his voice. “The campus is really big so you might get lost. Ah, but aren’t universities in the States much bigger? I can also introduce you to some of my friends if you like.”
Jaemin went on for a while, telling your parents not to worry and promising that he’d take care of you throughout your college life here in Korea despite your protests that you could very much take care of your own self. Eventually, your mother asked about his major, and his animated expressions dimmed down into a slight bashfulness after answering that he was taking biology. You joined the conversation upon hearing that. “You said back then that you wanted to be a surgeon, right?”
With a shy smile, he nodded, and at that moment you felt a rush of awe for your childhood friend. Your parents seemed to have reacted the same way seeing as he was growing a little more embarrassed. It was amazing how he held on to the same dream he held since he was a kid— the amount of passion and dedication he must have for it. You on the other hand—
“What about you, Y/N?”
You jumped at the sudden subject switch. “Oh, I’m—” a pause in your statement. “I’m… taking an arts course.”
“Wow! As expected, Y/N is as cool as always,” he doted, which caused you to flush.
“It’s— it’s not really that amazing, it’s just the only thing I’m kinda good at so—”
“No, no, no. Y/N, you shouldn’t say that,” he scolded, clicking his tongue while his hands remained on the wheel. Your mother was beside you yet he was the one doing the mom nagging. “Who is that again? Bob Ross? Leonardo DiCaprio? You’re gonna be much much much better than them someday, I just know it! I have something called Nana vision, you know.”
You stifled a quiet laugh, not having the heart to correct him that it was not DiCaprio. “Does your Nana vision also see that we’re already almost at the complex?”
“Oh!”
At your words, Jaemin’s attention was now a hundred percent back on driving, profusely apologizing for getting distracted. You could see his ears slightly reddening from your seat which lasted until the end of the drive. Jaemin helped your family carry everything to your apartment on the eighth floor, even volunteering to help you unpack. Your mother firmly declined, however, insisting him to take a rest after all his help, but she did invite him and his parents over for dinner tomorrow. A little reunion of sorts.
“Six in the evening, right?”
“Yes. You should head back home now, Jaemin. Thank you for everything.”
He shot a bright smile before readying to march outside. “We’ll be here by five!”
She laughed at him, shaking her head, and proceeded to look for you inside the mess of the living room. You were about to disappear inside your room, luggage in hand to unpack, but she quickly dragged you back by the ear. “Go see him out the door!” she whisper-yelled, and so you did. Fortunately, he was stopped by your father before he got to leave, so you took this opportunity to smoothly stride beside him as he slipped past the door when he said goodbye. The door clicked to a close. He raised a brow at you.
“Mother’s orders,” you answered.
“So you wouldn’t have gone out if she didn’t tell you to?” he huffed, pouting. “And I was really happy to see you, too. I think I might have to take that back.”
You rolled your eyes at him, laughing, and eventually you made it to the end of the hallway. “Too late. You can’t take back your happiness. It’s good to see you again, Jaemin.”
The both of you stopped right in front of the elevator, and you waited for him to depart, but he didn’t. He had his arms crossed over his chest, accompanied by an expression on his face that you couldn’t quite tell if it was hurt, disappointment, or offense. Probably all three. Definitely all three.
“What? are you putting up a wall between us? Don’t I mean anything to you anymore?” he groused, nose scrunching. “What happened to Jaems? Nana? Y/N, you’re seriously hurting me over here.”
Laughing at the way he was sticking his frown right into your face to prove his point, you playfully shoved him off, pushing him into the elevator after all of his complaints even though he was the one moving his feet, anyway. You missed him, that much you could conclude, therefore you decided to stop his whining just before the elevator doors came to a close.
“See you tomorrow, Nana.”
You grinned, not missing the way his eyes lit up in between the small gap. You really did miss him, and you were lucky enough to have him as a small memory to remind you that this place was indeed home.
Tumblr media
Maybe it wasn’t just Jaemin that you had missed. The entire family was just a smack in the face of early childhood nostalgia that you nearly cried (thank god you didn’t) when Mrs. Na buried you into a bone crushing hug the moment she saw you when you opened the door. You were really happy to be back— even when you weren’t exactly sure before.
“Mom, I think you’re suffocating, Y/N,” Jaemin pointed out as he left his shoes in front of your doorstep, walking inside with his father following behind him.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry, Y/N. I just couldn’t believe that this is you!” she coddled, and somewhere in between Jaemin found himself beside you. “I think I have pictures of you two when you were younger, hold on—”
Mrs. Na was pushed forward by her husband as she dug through her phone for a decade old Facebook posts of you and Jaemin (you hoped she wouldn’t remember you had an entire album). The older man ruffled your hair as he passed by with a fond smile, disappearing into the dining table where your parents were preparing and leaving you and Jaemin behind.
He was looking at you. Questionably so.
“What?”
“It’s not fair,” he whined. “I didn’t get to hug you yesterday.”
Oh my god, you shook your head, grabbing the sleeve of his mint jacket and leading him to where your parents were to help. “You’ll have more opportunities, you loser. It’s not like I’m going anywhere.”
Jaemin was speechless for a moment as he let you drag him along, but a happy smile broke through and he matched your steps halfway.
“Yeah,” he agreed. You weren’t going anywhere.
Dinner followed the usual sequence of events: reminiscing about the past, asking both parties what they have been up to, and of course talks about the future. During the meal, Jaemin asked when your classes were starting (next week), and he proposed his promised tour to be held this Tuesday— two days from now— because he didn’t have a lot of classes that day. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, neither did your parents, so you ended up agreeing.
Unfortunately for you, your mother pulled out the ancient photo album of the past right after dinner, and the stark contrast between yours and Jaemin’s reactions were also album worthy. By the end of it, you were sure that smoke was emitting from your ears because your good friend had an affinity with screaming over how cute you were, even going as far as stealing one of your baby pictures right before they decided to make their leave.
“Ah, ah,” he pulled the photo away the moment he sensed your attempt of theft. You two were standing right in front of the open door, his parents already having left ahead. “I’m keeping this. You look so cute here.”
“How am I so sure you won’t blackmail me with that!”
An offended gasp. “I would never,” he took out his phone, inserting your picture inside his colored phone case with you watching his every move. “It’s for me to see only, so you don’t need to worry.”
You looked at him. Then to the phone that he was holding up with a confident smile. You let out a sigh.
“Fine,” you begrudgingly relented, and he waddled over to you with a big smile on his face to envelop you into a hug. He smells nice, you thought, reciprocating the embrace. Wait, isn’t this my perfume? That would explain what he was doing inside your room earlier. You could only sigh inwardly let him keep on hugging you. He was whining about it earlier, after all.
It lasted long, maybe a bit too long because his dad came back to fetch him.
“Mhm, you can trust me with anything, Y/N,” Jaemin mumbled before finally pulling away, his hands still resting on your shoulders as he did. “Anyway, before I go— should we exchange phone numbers?”
Tumblr media
Tuesday came by, and you were met with two realizations. Both of which made you feel very very small in comparison.
One, NCT U was really freaking big.
Two, Na Jaemin was really freaking popular.
Granted, he had only shown you around the STEM department, but with every turn that you took and every hallway that you passed through, there was least one person that stopped by to say hi to him. Even some of the teachers were close with him. You should have expected it considering he was literally nice, smart, handsome, and everything you could ever ask for, but it still made him feel just a tiny bit out of reach.
“Are you feeling tired?” he asked, breaking away from a conversation with a senior. He put a hand over your shoulder with concern that reflected in his eyes. “We can take a break around the benches if you want.”
“Yeah, sure. After you—”
“I’ll talk to you later, hyung. See you around.”
Jaemin waved off his older friend, Yuta, you had overheard, and proceeded to lead you to the aforementioned area on the ground floor before stopping by a vending machine to get some drinks. You pressed your lips together, feet shuffling as you waited behind him, and then you finally decided to speak. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“Do what?” he asked, slotting in a few coins into the machine.
“You— you with your friend,” you fumbled, trying your best to speak your mind, but how were you supposed to say ‘cut your conversation short with your friend because of me’ without seeming like a total headass? You could have waited until they were finished.
With a soft smile, he passed a canned, carbonated drink into your hands— lemon, you read— and took one for himself. He didn’t answer your incomprehensible question and decided to walk across the field leading to a bench area, but you were sure he got what you were trying to say. He simply chose not to answer. Or did he? Hell, you didn’t even know anymore. Annoyed, you decided to gulp down the drink in one go to distract yourself, even when the bubbles stung your throat. Jaemin stared at you in horror.
“Were you that thirsty? You should have told—”
“Na Jaemin!”
In sync, your heads snapped towards the direction of the ear-ripping screech, which was quite coincidentally where you two were headed. There were two boys sitting on a bench, one more on the table with a guitar. You assumed that it was one of them that screamed out your friend’s name— probably the one that was making eye contact with him before dramatically turning away with a butchered sob.
“Na Jaemin! Traitor of the brotherhood! I remember when he would still come running the moment I call his name but now— forgotten for dust! He doesn’t care about us anymore, Renjun. He even has a new—”
“What are you on about this time, Haechan?”
Haechan’s evidently fake sobbing stopped, pushing away the boy that he had just been crying into moments prior. “Oh you’re here,” he deadpanned.
It was almost horrific how three pairs of eyes immediately zeroed in on you as you meekly hid behind Jaemin, causing the hairs at the back of your neck to stand as if you were about to die in a fucking horror movie. You could tell from that alone that despite having many friends, these guys were probably his closest— whether it was better or worse, you had no idea. All of a sudden you were dawned with the intimidating task of trying to get them to like you, which was already way too out of reach because the one with the guitar was practically ripping you to shreds with his eyes alone.
“Please stop trying to scare, Y/N. Jeno, you might actually make her cry, stop that.”
“Whoops,” Jeno stopped his death staring. “Hyuck initiated it.”
“Actually it was Renjun, but whatever,” before Renjun could even bite back after being falsely accused, Haechan had already blocked him off and had directed his attention towards you, legs crossed and a critical gaze. “Fuck formalities. Y/N, right? Who are you and why are you trying to steal—”
“Alright, no more scare tactics. Y/N, there are my friends, Jeno, Haechan— or Donghyuck, whichever you prefer, he doesn’t mind— and Renjun. They’re just trying to mess with you, don’t worry. Friends, this Y/N L/N, my childhood friend for like four, five years before she left Korea and moved to LA.”
The term childhood friend lit a spark within the three boys, but before they could do or say anything dangerous that would jeopardize your relationship, Jaemin the ever popular boy was called out by a group of girls. He excused himself to leave for a moment, but not before apologizing to you a million times over (“If you’re really sorry,” Renjun chided before he ran off. “Treat us and Miss Y/N to Kun’s, yeah?”). He agreed without even hearing him properly, and now you were left with his three friends that felt more like three sharks that circled around you. They were fucking out for blood.
“So,” the moment Jaemin disappeared from the parameter, Haechan pulled you to the bench in between him and Renjun with a devilish grin. “Childhood friend, huh?”
Your eyes snapped over to Renjun who was on your right to ask for a way out of this, but the guy was busy filming the entire thing on his phone. Why did Jaemin leave you behind? You had no chance of escaping. Haechan locked you down by swinging his arm around your neck just as you were about to stand. He signalled at his friend who was sitting on the table. “Jeno, drop the beat.”
There was a moment of miscommunication in between because instead of dropping the beat like Haechan asked, Jeno started strumming a sickeningly sweet tune on his guitar. Or maybe that was what he intended. Either way, Haechan was flexible enough to go along with it.
“You know what they say about childhood friends,” another strum. Haechan sang. Was this a fucking oration? “You either end up forgetting each other, hating each other, or you end up toge—”
“That is not—”
“Hush!” he silenced. Renjun was losing it at the side. So was Jeno, because the guitar tune was long replaced by fits of strangled laughter. “It is, clueless Y/N. It is. How many childhood friends have you met that stayed as childhood friends? None, I assume. I’m never wrong, you see.”
“Weren’t you and Mark childhood friends, too—”
“Shut the fuck up, Huang. This isn’t about me. Y/N, listen.”
Grabbing your shoulders, Haechan pulled you away from Renjun, the sudden movement nearly giving you a whiplash.
“From my expert calculations, you and Jaemin are undeniably going down route three, but the both of you are moving at an agonizingly slow pace, correct?” you stared at him, wide eyed, and he was staring right back. “Correct! Now, in order to speed things up a bit, all you have to do is follow Hyuck’s five step guide on How To Trap Your Childhood Friend Into—”
“Isn’t this the same guide that ruined your—”
“I said shut the fuck up!”
The two ended up quarrelling and you ended up being forgotten. You weren’t sure whether to be thankful or be offended. Jeno shot you a look of remorse on behalf of his friends, bringing you to the conclusion that this must have been a normal occurrence. Your eyes shot towards the sky, clouds covering the sun just enough so you wouldn’t be blinded, ears picking up the argument occuring that went back and forth on both of your sides. They’re a lively bunch, you breathed out, a subtle smile on your face.
Eventually Jaemin showed his face again, jogging over to your group and you greeted him with a beaming grin. “You guys seem to be getting along,” he said the moment he stopped before you.
“Oh, Romeo returns,” Renjun decided to stop picking a fight with Haechan. “Where’d you get dragged off to this time?”
There was silence, all four sets of eyes heavily sparked with curiosity as you waited for Jaemin’s response, but the boy was rather hesitant. “Well—” he fumbled, a faint baby pink blush powdering his cheeks. Sheepish, he continued. “Someone confessed to me.”
The first person that reacted was Jeno, who released a loud snort and scooted a little more forward. “Shouldn’t you be used to it by now?” Jaemin indignantly refuted as he continued to be teased by the other two boys, the remaining uncharacteristically not joining in. At that very moment you could feel Haechan looking at you, a gaze that you couldn’t quite put a finger on but it was enough to shoot him a glare back.
“Who was it? Is she pretty?” you chose to ignore the annoying male beside you and decide to focus all of your interest and attention on Jaemin instead.
“Jiah,” he mindlessly answered, pushing Haechan to the side so he could sit next to you. “From nursing? I think?”
“Dude,” you turned your head to Renjun. “Kang Jiah? Holy shit, that’s crazy.”
Noticing the lost look in your eyes, Renjun proceeded to explain that not only was the alluded Kang Jiah arguably the prettiest in her department, she was at the top of her class too. You didn’t understand which part about that was crazy because for you, that was exactly the kind of person that Jaemin was destined to end up with. You wouldn’t be surprised if they do become a thing— well, there was only one way to find the answer to that.
“Well, what did you say? You said yes right?” you asked him, looking forward to his answer.
“Oh,” he shrugged. “I turned her down.”
What?
“Of course,” Renjun scoffed, shaking head with his arms crossed. “Only you would turn someone like Jiah down. At this rate you’ll end up dying an old hermit.”
“You have a crush on her or something?”
“Pff— no? I just think she’s pretty,”
“You’re not fooling anyone, dumbass. Come over here, I’m gonna squeeze it out of you—”
While the two quarrelled again in the middle of the field with Jeno being the one filming this time, you remained frozen in your seat, somewhat surprised. Huh, you blinked, wanting to ask him why he turned her down but frankly it was none of your business. You turned your head to face him. “Wow, I didn’t expect you to turn into such a heartbreaker, Jaems.”
He clicked his tongue, face scrunched into a bitter look of disapproval as reached out to mess up your hair. “Stop thinking weird thoughts,” he scolded. “Instead, why don’t I finally take you to the art building?”
Your eyes immediately lit up after the mention, and he stifled a laugh at your reaction, patting your head once more before sneaking off without the other three’s knowledge.

Jaemin’s tour of the whole campus actually deemed to be pretty useful because after three whole weeks of going to NCT U, you’d only gotten lost seven times— pretty remarkable if you do say so yourself. Within those three weeks, you had actually expected that your old childhood friend would leave you off on your own once you got used to everything, but no. He tried his best to meet you in between classes even though your buildings were nowhere near each other, and the times when he couldn’t, he’d never failed to call or text you. “I promised your parents!” he reasoned, but you weren’t sure if that promise included asking you if you’ve eaten breakfast every morning.
“Breakfast?”
You repeated into the phone as you and your recently made friend Soorim walked to your Visual Studies class. You’d met her during your first week and the both of you immediately hit off. It was nice to have someone else other than Jaemin and his friends, but of course you appreciated their company, too.
“I, uh, actually haven’t eaten— no wait! Before you nag me, I have a valid excuse, okay!” Soorim gave you a sidelong glance, curious and suspicious over your loud phone call so she tried to lean her ear closer to the device but you quickly evaded without even looking at her. “Listen, I was in a hurry to school! I actually planned on grabbing a bite on the way but I… forgot my wallet because again, I was in a hurry and— no, shut up, you don’t have the right to scold me for this, too! You literally left your report at home yesterday and I had to walk all the way back to save your butt so you’re no better, Mr. Na.”
Without even realizing, you were already in front of the doors to your classroom, and so you hurried a goodbye to Jaemin just before you and Soorim took your seats at the near back.
“Alright, I’m in the classroom now. See you later. Yes, I’ll eat after, yes, I promise to double check my wallet from now on. Bye.”
The moment you settled on your seat, setting your phone and backpack aside, Soorim swiveled her chair to face you, legs crossed, hands resting with poise on her thigh, and she batted her eyelashes expectantly. You ignored her, twisting open your water bottle because it was the only thing you had that could somewhat silence your crying stomach.
“So,” she started anyway. The bottle opening was hovering over your lips. You narrowed your eyes at her. What the fuck was she doing. “When are you introducing me to your boyfriend?”
You choked while drinking.
“Boy— what,” with a grimace, you ripped away the bottle from your face, slamming it down on the table. You looked at your friend in disgust. “If I had one I wouldn’t be hanging out with you.”
Soorim rolled her eyes, sneering at you. She held up her hand to the side of her face, all fingers closed except for her pinky and her thumb, shaking it a little. You sighed.
“He’s a friend.”
“The same friend that kept on calling you during our night out because he was worried?”
“Yes, well,” your sweat dropped. “He’s just like that, you know?”
“Sure,” she scrunched her nose, haphazardly throwing her giant notebook on the table. There was a brief moment of quiet that overtook because Soorim decided to stop egging on you as you waited for your professor, but that quiet only lasted for a while. She nudged you, and you looked up from your desk. “Oh, look who's coming.”
Huang Renjun sauntered in with an expression not fitting for a “good morning” greeting, so you chose to remain silent and simply stare at him in judgment as he settled right before you and Soorim, plastic bag in hand and binder in the other. What shat in his coffee this early in the morning?
“This is all your fault,” with a grunt, he dropped the bag filled with all sorts of food and snacks right in front of you, immediately pulling out a chair and sitting his ass onto it after. “My plans of turning up late are ruined because of you.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, picking out a small container of strawberry milk from the bunch. How was this your fault? Furthermore, what exactly was all of this?
“Ooh, you making moves on Y/N, Huang?” Soorim, on the other hand, was digging into the rest of the goods, stealing a bun filled with red bean paste with a happy smile.
“Ew, as if.”
Renjun fake gagged, earning a look of offense from you which he completely ignored and disregarded. He took a box of pepero from the pile, shooting you a smug look before adding.
“It’s from Nana.”
Tumblr media
(“You’re at school already? It’s very early. You’ve eaten breakfast, right?”
At a convenience store nearby the school, Jaemin and Renjun decided to eat their first meal there. Though, it appeared that the latter was the only one doing all the eating because his friend seemed to be far too preoccupied with his conversation on the phone to even notice that he took some of his sushi right in front of his face. Renjun silently chewed as he watched the colors on his friend’s face change at each sentence.
“Aish, it’s the most important meal of the day for a reason. How many times do I have to tell you—”
Another piece of sushi stolen. He wondered how far he could get away with it.
“Y/N, I—”
Jaemin let out a long sigh, causing Renjun to drop the food back onto the plate, retracting his chopsticks back to his own food— a bowl of ramen noodles that he had still yet to finish. He discreetly slurped it down as if he hadn’t been stealing since earlier. He was sure that Jaemin noticed though, but knowing his friend, he probably just let him. Renjun noticed the small pout on Jaemin, eliciting his curiosity.
“Okay,” he’s whining, Renjun concluded. “See you later.”
The moment Jaemin shut off his phone, Renjun expected him to say something, to air out why the fuck he was being all that this early in the morning, maybe even tell him what the call was about like a friend would, but no. Instead, Jaemin promptly stood up from his seat, disappeared into the limited selection of isles in the store, basket in hand, and started throwing a mountain full of food with a scrunched out, concentrated expression. Renjun had his mouth hanging open, brows knitted together, and wondering what in the ever loving fuck was going on with his friend as he stared at him pay for everything at the counter.
He sat back, eyeing Jaemin as he returned in front of him, who placed the full bag on top of the table as he took a seat.
“The hell?” a particular carton caught Renjun’s eye, and he immediately fished for it in primal disbelief. “Strawberry milk? You literally hate strawberries and milk separately yet you’re buying them combined? Are you sick?”
Jaemin did not answer. In fact, he dismissed the question completely with a smile, deciding to ask one of his own.
“It’s almost time for your first class, right? Visual Studies?”
At that point it hit him— the call, the food, the stupid behavior of his friend. It was completely obvious.
“Oh,” Renjun dropped the drink back onto the table. “Oh my god, you’re so fucking whipped.”)
Tumblr media
“Shut up.”
After hearing Renjun’s story, you couldn’t look at all the multicolored snacks laid in front of you without heating up a million degrees anymore. It was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.
“You’re just messing with me, shut up.”
Renjun scoffed. “Why would I even make up something so stupid? C’mon, Y/N. You know I’m way better than that.”
You couldn’t argue that this wasn’t something Jaemin would do. No, because this was exactly something sickly sweet Jaemin would do and your sad attempt of denial was simply because your heart might actually run away if you admit it to yourself. And as if to give you more assurance or to fluster you even further, your phone vibrated, causing you to jump in your seat. Before either of the two’s nosiness could take a peek, you quickly snatched your phone, leaning your chair all the way back to read the message.
[<nana3: never skip breakfast okok?!? u don’t have your wallet right? wait for me in front of the bio building later. let’s eat lunch together 🥰💚]
Dear lord Jesus, have mercy on your soul. Renjun took your squeak as a sign of victory.
“Wait a minute,” Soorim looked at you wide in a sudden moment of epiphany. “Nana as in Na Jaemin? The fucking Na Jaemin? Is he the friend you’ve been mentioning? The guy you were calling and bought all this? Holy fuck, Y/N—!”
Your body moved before you could think and you thanked god that your professor wasn’t here yet because you would have caught the entire class’ attention when you leaped forward to slap your hands over Soorim’s mouth.
Renjun’s excessive giggling brought you back to reality, pulling your hands off of her with a gasp and an apology. “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry.”
“What the fuck, why did you do that?”
“I don’t know, it felt like you were about to say something stupid!”
She gave a look, half done and half amazed at your willpower. You’d never been this fired up for anything. “Is it stupid to say that one of the hottest guys on campus is literally—”
“Stupid!” another slap on her mouth. Renjun was about to fall off his chair laughing. “You were going to say something stupid. Please don’t even think about finishing that.”
Lucky for you, your professor had finally come in. Unlucky for you, Soorim shot you the signature dirty stare which meant that you wouldn’t be let off that easily. How fun.
Class went on quiet and boring as usual— you’d never been one for technicalities, preferring heading straight into the creative process with nothing but inspiration coursing through your veins, so your professor’s voice was nothing but white noise running in the background as you busied yourself with your thoughts. Your eyes flickered to the floor, cheek resting on your palm, and you gazed down to the plastic back beside your backpack. Twirling your pencil between your fingers, you pulled out a scrap piece of paper, every move that you made triggered by nothing except the abstract flow of your mind.
There was only one person you were thinking of. The same person living inside your head the moment you stepped foot back into Korea, the same person that made you feel as if you were someone special out of all the eight billion people in the world, the same person that bought you three persons worth of food because he didn’t want you skipping breakfast, the same person that felt more like a dream than anything.
Mindlessly, you started sketching the face of your childhood friend, filling in all the details of his face that you could see whenever you closed your eyes, up until the bell rang that signalled the end of the class.

“Y/N! Your father and I are leaving, now!”
“There’s extra money on top of the fridge if you want to eat out.”
Saturday evening. Your parents decided to go out on a well-deserved date that night, leaving you alone inside your apartment. You saw them out the door, locking it up once they left, and as you pressed your back against the white washed wooden door, your eyes darted over to the clock hanging on your living room wall. Six-twenty-three. There were still a few hours until closing.
An art exhibition was to be held on the same evening, and this was the last day that the actual artist was going to be there. Free and you got to meet world renowned artist Ten Lee? You’d be insane not to go. Though, as you made your way into your room to change out of your raggedy old sweatpants and Jaemin’s (stolen) mint hoodie, you’d come to a realization that maybe the venue was too far for you to just walk. Your parents were using the car and it wasn’t like you could drive anyway. You could commute, but there was a better idea in your system.
Opening your phone, a smile involuntarily tugged at the corners of your mouth as you pressed the contact number that seemed to have never left your recents.
[you: nana! are you free rn? there’s an art exhibition out of town! i need a ride :p and you need some time off your studies too bcs i noticed youve been more tired than usual so good idea i think yes hehe]
As usual, he took no more than a minute to reply. But after lighting up when you saw his name flash on your screen, you bit down your bottom lip to prevent a frown from forming.
[<nana3: TT i’m attending a seminar for an org rn y/nie huhu i don’t know what time it’s ending so i’m not sure if i can make it 😫😭]
[you: it’s okay!! jhfdj sorry for disturbing u!! please listen well to the speaker hehe and tell me how it went]
[<nana3: i’m so sorry]
It was difficult to pinpoint how you exactly felt.
You chewed the inside of your mouth, staring at the phone screen. He shouldn’t be apologizing.
After shutting your closet door down to a close, you fell face down onto your bed, your phone thrown over to the side. Yes, you were disappointed, but it wasn’t what weighed you down; the actual reason feeling like a disgusting, throbbing feeling writhing underneath your skin after being suppressed for awhile now. It never left your system the moment you'd arrived, the moment he showed you what his life was like, making you realize the stark difference between you and him.
You couldn’t care less about the exhibition now. In fact, fuck that entire plan entirely. As you were loitering, fooling around, planning on going to pointless events that wouldn’t be of benefit to your future, Jaemin was there, making connections and decisions and taking a step further into life.
It made you wonder what exactly had you been doing these past seven years— what haven’t you been doing, what you should be doing. You were ashamed to admit it, but it plagued the back of your mind since you got here.
Jaemin was far too out of reach.
It made the wrench in your gut worse whenever he made an effort to not make you feel that way. He’d always include you whenever he’d be with his other friends, always made sure that you didn’t feel left out since you came here, whether it be by his little cute texts even though you were in the same room just to make you smile, or by giving you all of his attention despite the many people vying for his. God, you didn’t deserve him. You didn’t deserve to like him.
What did you deserve?
Just then, there was a knock on your front door, followed by a buzz from your phone.
[<nana3: open the door!]
And you did, scrambling out of your bed and nearly tripping over your feet as you ran just to swing it open. Jaemin stood before you with his hair tousled by the wind, a purple and orange varsity jacket covering his frame. He greeted you with brightened eyes.
“I thought you had—”
“I left early,” he smiled at you, walking inside. “Why aren’t you dressed yet? Hurry, I’ll wait here.”
You blinked at him as he passed you by to sit on your couch, unable to understand what led him to such a decision, staring as he stretched his arms over his head with a yaw. He shouldn’t have come here. “Jaemin, it’s just an exhibition, it’s not as important as your seminar.”
He raised a brow at you, stealing a pillow into his lap. “But you want to go, right?”
“Well…” you did want to go, even after your small episode earlier. “Yeah, but—”
“Then it’s more important.”
He smiled at you. You cursed at yourself for letting your heart dither.
“Besides, you actually think I’d let you go out alone this late at night?” Jaemin stood up from the sofa, resting his hand on top of your head with an affectionate gaze. “You should go change. Or maybe not. You look good in my clothes, anyway.”
Tumblr media
It was cold outside, so Jaemin made sure that you were wearing enough layers so that you won’t get sick, forcing you back inside when he deemed that you weren’t covered enough.
“Jaem, I’m fucking sweating.”
You huffed as you lugged yourself to the front seat, but your padded winter coat was preventing you from making a smooth landing inside.
“Sweating is a good sign! That means you’re healthy,” noticing your struggle, Jaemin relented to leaving the coat at the back of the car, but keeping it there just in case. He got in after you, starting the car and turning on the radio for some background noise. “Reconnaissance Gallery Right? What’s the name of the show?”
“Mono,” you replied. “It’s by Ten Lee.”
“Oh! I remember you talking about him once,” he exclaimed. “We should hurry then.”
It was a generally quiet car ride, but the silence was welcomed. After asking where you wanted to eat dinner once you were done with the exhibit, Jaemin didn’t talk anymore. Your eyes followed the moving lights that were lit up all around the night scene, and from time to time they flickered over to admire the boy beside you who seemed to be far too engrossed with his driving. An unconscious smile grew, warmth fluttering inside. You were lucky enough to meet him again in this lifetime, even after being set apart for so long.
“Something wrong?”
He asked without looking. He must have noticed you staring.
“No,” you replied with a soft voice. “Just remembered how baby-faced you were back then.”
With a laugh, he shook his head, one hand stretched out to the steering wheel. “You’re one to talk. Alright, I think we’re here.”
You felt a rush the moment you went past the glass doors, met by a relatively large interior with walls painted either black or white and lined with numerous paintings that contrasted the wall they were hung on. With a large grin, you quickly tugged Jaemin’s arm deeper into the venue, your footsteps making hollow echoes inside the place. He was taken aback by your sudden action, heart racing when he felt your grip on him, never slowing down even when you stopped in front of one of the larger works in the exhibit. “Oh my gosh, I love this painting— wait let me take a picture.”
As you fumbled with your phone, Jaemin couldn’t help but stare at you as if you were a part of the exhibit itself. There were more people inside, yet he didn’t even notice them; paintings as pretty as the night sky, yet it was you that he couldn’t take his eyes off of. Your phone camera captured it with an audible click, and he took it as a signal to scramble and take his out too.
Click!
“The painting’s really pretty, right?”
He nodded at you. “Yeah,” it wasn’t the painting that he wanted to capture. He dug his phone back into his pocket after sneaking a brief glance at your excited grin behind the screen. It wasn’t every day that you smiled like this since you were usually reserved. He didn’t want to miss saving a memory. “You wanna walk around more?”
At his suggestion, you and Jaemin decided to move deeper into the exhibit. You knew he wasn’t that knowledgeable about art, but he still listened intently whenever you told him something about the strokes and composition of some of the works displayed. You hadn’t run into Ten Lee yet even after an hour of walking around and taking pictures, but you didn’t mind at all. Jaemin froze in front of a certain painting— the visage of what seemed to be a face formed together by different objects, drawn in a style similar to the rest with the black and white motif, graffiti-esque structure, and the overall whimsical and abstract feel to it. There was a smile on his face, you wondered what he was thinking about.
“One day, it’s gonna be your paintings that will be displayed here. You promise you won’t forget about me when that happens, okay?" he started, turning his attention to you. “You should also paint a portrait dedicated to me," he joked, nudging you a little.
You smiled at him. Jaemin noticed that this wasn’t your usual smile, but he chose to not say anything. “Okay,” you breathed out before looking down seconds before he could see your expression melt away. How was he thinking so highly of you when it was him who was too far to reach?
He was about to ask— he didn’t know what to ask— but he would say whatever just to erase whatever was bothering your peace of mind. But he wasn’t able to. In fact, just as he lifted a hand to rest over your shoulder as an act of comfort, your head shot up, turning to face the sudden eruption of a commotion that Jaemin had failed to notice in his worry for you.
“Holy crap,” you gasped. “Is that—”
Ten Lee, just a few feet away from you with cameras and crowd surrounding him. You wasted no time to run to him, grabbing Jaemin’s hand in a flash to drag him behind. His eyes softened upon seeing the excited bounce of your hair as you ran. At least your spirits were brought back up again.
Jaemin watched as you nervously fiddled with the hem of your jacket as you waited for an opening to talk to the famous artist, how you would stand on your toes to peek above the small crowd and stand back down again after feeling too shy. Eventually the crowd dissipated to only around four or five people. This was your chance. You looked at him Jaemin. He nudged you with his shoulder. ‘Go,’ he mouthed. You pressed your lips together before finally deciding to march up to the artist. He didn’t realize you have been holding his hands until you let go.
“A-ah, hi!”
He followed after you in case you were feeling too nervous, but he was relieved to see that Ten Lee was pretty down to earth and easy going for someone famous. He stayed a few steps behind you as he listened to the ongoing conversation.
“I can’t tell you enough how much I adore your works. Especially, Monarch! I took a picture of it earlier and it’s so much more captivating in person,” you said, watching as Ten signed your phone case. “Actually, I—I look up to you a lot as an artist. A few of my paintings were actually inspired by your style, but of course it— it would be an insult to compare.”
“You shouldn’t compare,” he scolded, adding in a little sermon about your art is yours and that it should stand alone as your own. He handed your phone back, a smile on his face. “Can I see?”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. In a flustered rush, you quickly scrolled through your gallery folders to find the specific paintings you were referring to, and Jaemin, out of curiosity, hovered over your shoulders to see as well. As you passed through your works with your friend’s mouth hanging open in awe (he wanted to gush about them, but figured this wasn’t formally appropriate), his eyes caught a glimpse of an image that you quickly swiped past— far too glaring too miss because he was sure that it looked something like his face. It was a different kind of pride that he felt when he saw that.
Ten’s eyes flickered as he saw through your paintings, something formulating within even after you hid your phone. He looked at you, grabbing your hands without any warning which caused you to squeak. “Y/N, right?” you nodded, wide eyed. “You know, I’m hosting an online gallery within the upcoming weeks. It’s for young, aspiring artists like you to be recognized at a larger scale.”
Hold on, you tried to catch on to what he was saying. Was he—
“Are you interested?”
—serious? Was he actually serious? It looked like he was because when he let go of you, a business card suddenly materialized in your hands. Holy shit.
“Think about it, okay? Just email me your portfolio and everything. Who knows, what if you get recognized and scouted after this?”
He winked at you, shooting you a thumbs up. This had to be a dream. You were still trying to process the piece of fucking paper that you were holding and now all of a sudden Ten came in between you and Jaemin, swinging his arms around your neck and giving you a pat on the back
“Anyhow, thanks to the both of you for coming to my show. And Y/N—” he looked at you with a grin. “Looking forward to your more of your works.”
Ten disappeared off with two other people, their footsteps clacking against the cold, tiled floor. You stared at the card in your hands for a few moments— Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul, it wrote— before snapping your eyes back to Jaemin who was wearing a far too large smile. “Oh my god.”
Jaemin wasted no time in drowning you into a hug, knocking the air out of your lungs when he nearly toppled you onto the ground.
“Y/N,” his voice was soft in comparison to the roughness of his actions, sweetly fluttering into your ears as he rocked you left and right with his squeezing embrace. “I’m so proud of you.”
His words nearly broke you down to tears.
“This calls for a celebration, right?” he pulled away, hand automatically falling to hold onto yours as he led you to the gallery’s exit. “My treat! I know a place nearby, we should eat an entire feast!”
“Nana, you already treated me to lunch last time, I can’t just—”
“No, no no! I’m treating you, okay? This is your achievement so I should congratulate properly.”
There was no point arguing with him when he already had his mind set, but even during your drive to a nearby barbecue place, even when you were already halfway with the meal, you kept on insisting that you’d pay him back for all of this someday. He’d only laugh it off, telling you that he doesn’t mind as long as you’re enjoying yourself. You downed a shot of soju after hearing that, hoping that it would make you forget momentarily about how fast your heart was beating.
Somehow the clock eventually struck nine, and rather than going home, the both of you took an impulsive detour to a nearby public beach. The sounds of waves crashing against the solemn quiet of the night was heard as you neared the area, bringing you to a moment of peace.
Instead of going to the sandy shore, you two decided to take a spot on the beach cliff right above the rolling water. “Be careful,” Jaemin whispered from behind as he guided you along the rocky surface, heating up from the way he was so, so close with his hands steady on your back. You two sat side by side on the cliff, underneath the veil of stars, with the ocean right in front of you.
“Are your parents okay with you staying out this late?” he cocked his head to face you in a manner that was far too cute for you to suppress a giggle.
“Jaems, they’d probably allow me to disappear off to Italy as long as you’re with me.”
The both of you broke into laughter, but it was eventually replaced by the noises of the ocean. You breathed in the salty scent of the sea, folding your knees to your chest with your arms hugging them together. For a moment your eyes flickered over to Jaemin, and a chord was strung, tugging your heart towards him, but it was impossible for it to leap out of your chest so it only rattled against your ribcage desperately just like the waves. You stared at the way his dark hair melted into the night sky, the wind brushing it away, the way he had his legs stretched out freely over the rocks while you squeezed yourself as small as you could get, and lastly, the way he flashed over to look at the exact moment that you wanted him to.
If there was such a thing as a perfect instance where the stars of the night sky aligned, it would be this.
“You know,” you started, letting your arms fall to your sides as you looked over to the distance. “I envy you sometimes.”
Jaemin was taken aback by your confession.
“I also admire you,” you pressed your lips together tightly, forming it into a smile. “A lot. I admire you a lot. To the point that it made me feel like you’re living in a completely different world from me and that I wasn’t deserving of you.”
You’d finally mustered up the courage to tell him everything you’d pent up during your first month back here— it was better than just letting it fester into something worse, even if there was a risk of completely ruining your friendship. It was better than playing pretend.
“We’re both only a year apart but it seems like you have your life all tied together while I’m still barely able to walk on my own two feet. I wouldn’t even have been able to go to the exhibit if it weren’t for you,” you crossed your legs, a mirthless laugh slipping past your lips as the wind brushed against your cheeks .“I don’t… want to seem ungrateful for everything you’ve done or make you feel bad or anything, because Jaemin—”
You turned around, looking at him.
“If I had the choice to stay back then, I would have gladly chosen to spend those seven years together with you.”
Jaemin stared at you, speechless, unblinking. He had a gut feeling that there was something bothering you all this time, but he never had thought that it would be this.
“But the feeling of seeing you again after all this time is a feeling that I wouldn’t trade for the world either,” you hummed, looking down as you traced the creases of the rocky ground with your fingers, a shaky breath slipping past you. “If only… I wasn’t just so insecure then maybe everything would be perfect.”
For a moment there was nothing— only the lulling sounds of the sea that became quieter after you laid your heart out to the ground. The next moment, Jaemin spoke up.
“I got into an accident four years ago.”
You shot up in a single instant.
Jaemin laughed a little, bringing his hand to the crown of your head in assurance. “I had a herniated disc which got worse during a dance camp. It was definitely scary, how it seemed like I was in a standstill for two years while everyone else carried on with their lives,” he continued, letting his hand drop once more right beside yours. “It’s hard to get out of that hopeless mentality. It takes small steps, but once you do, things will eventually start looking up.”
He shot you a smile, eyes twinkling under the light of the moon. You couldn’t help but put your head down after hearing everything.
“I understand how and why you’re feeling that way, don’t worry I’m not upset. You don’t think I am, right?” he caught you sniffling, leaning forward to take a look at your face but you kept on turning away. “Y/N— Y/N, look at me, okay? I’ll be your personal cheerleader from now on, yeah? Up until you realize that you’re actually greater than you think you are.”
He was too good to you.
“I’m— I’m sorry I couldn’t be there when you were having a tough time.”
You silently muttered, meekly sneaking a glance at him to see that he was actually smiling at you this entire time. He’d always been like this.
“It’s alright, you didn’t have a choice, right?” he assured. “And I’m all better now, as you can see. I can even jump off the cliff into the ocean without having a single scratch!”
Right, you managed a laugh from his silly proclamation. He lit up upon hearing you. Maybe you can try to be like that too.
“What’s important is that from now on.”
There had been a gap between the two of you that entire time, but Jaemin bridged it the moment his hand brushed against your skin, his pinky interlocking with yours against the coarse ground. You met his eyes. He shot you a smile. That same smile that you could never get enough of.
“You’ll be with me.”
Tumblr media
“Jaemin, please put your shirt back on.”
When you walked back into the living room, easel and canvas in your arms, you did not expect to be met with your childhood friend-slash-boyfriend mid-strip. In fact you were far too in shock that you dropped everything to the floor at that exact moment, only managing to utter those previous words once you were busy picking them all back up and not looking at him. He quickly ran to help you.
“Oh, I thought this was—” he passed you a paintbrush, helping you stand back up once you’ve gotten everything. “Aren’t the models for your classes usually, like, naked?”
“You think I was gonna paint you nude?!”
“Well,” he mused, holding his shirt to his bare chest. “If you want— okay, sorry! Shirt on! Shirt on!”
You settled down the easel that you just threatened to launch at him near the window where the afternoon sunlight was leaking through. A few days prior, you had contacted Ten Lee regarding the online exhibit, asking when the deadline was because you wanted to include one more piece in your portfolio.
“Nana, can you sit over here?”
There was a stool situated a few feet in front of the easel and right beside the window. He did as you said, now fully dressed and sitting properly and well behaved. You marched up to him, moving around his limbs into a specific pose. Jaemin wore a subtle smile as you grabbed his arms to a certain position, his shoulders into a certain angle, and when your fingers landed on his jaw to adjust his head, he just couldn’t help but throw all your work out the window by pulling you towards him by the waist.
“What are you—” a kiss fell on your nose. Jaemin shot you a cheeky smile.
“Sorry,” he said. “I couldn’t help it.”
You weren’t inclined to do anything else but forgive him, even if it meant refixing him into position, but somehow you managed. Running back behind the easel, you wore a satisfied smile upon seeing the composition, flicking your wrist to start the initial sketch. There was music running in the background. Jaemin sat still for thirty whole minutes.
“Can I move for a sec?”
“Yeah, yeah,” you answered. “I got the basic shapes down anyway.”
He let out an amazed gasp, lips forming into an ‘o’ shape. “So cool,” he said, and you let out a little laugh.
You were trying to focus, but in between a few strokes of your pencil, he wiggled his eyebrows when you looked at him again. You threw your head down to suppress a barrage of giggles. “Okay, this is— this is going nowhere. Can I just take a picture of you?”
Even taking a shot of him was difficult because he just wouldn’t sit still. He’d always do something to make you laugh or smile just when you were about to take a picture. You scolded him, telling him that all you needed was a few takes then the both of you can make a run for some popsicles at the nearby store. He straightened upon hearing, and you finally got to do the job.
“Do you have a title in mind for the piece?” he asked, just as you finished taking the last photo of his face up close.
You did have one. In fact, you’ve had it in mind for a while now.
“Yeah,” you answered, smiling. “Mahiwaga.”
Tumblr media
Haechan, for whatever suspicious reason, volunteered to treat you out to lunch today at a family restaurant near the uni. You did not know why, and he would not tell you why, but you could not pass up free food. You texted Soorim to follow just in case you needed mental support because as you sat across him, looking up from your phone while munching your fries to catch the terrifying stare he was giving you, you could tell that you needed at least one other person around.
[you: dude, i think hes actually planning on killing me please hurry up]
[soorim: omw babe]
[soorim: but ur paying for me right]
You sighed, telling her yes you already ordered her food, and she replied with an annoying heart that you refused to mark read. Just as you were about to shut off your phone, ready to hear whatever Haechan was brewing, another message was sent your way.
[<nana3: baby, i saw the exhibition!! 🤩 you know, you’re so amazing, you know?!?! nana is super super proud of you 🥺💚 and i’m sure your parents are, too!! i sent the link to all of my friends yesterday hehe. also i’ll call you immediately after my class, ok?? don’t forget to drink lots of water today 😚 byebye! 💚]
“Are you two fucking yet?”
Haechan’s question caused you to choke on your fries, dropping your phone to the table so you can reach for the glass of Sprite. You looked at him, appalled. “I’m sorry?”
“What are we talking about?”
Soorim had belatedly joined in the party, pushing you farther into the seat to make room for herself. Her eyes zeroed in on the table, choosing the giant burger to attack first. You scrunched your nose as you looked at her.
“We—”
“Whether Y/N and Jaemin have done the dirty yet,” Haechan interrupted. You looked at him in offense and horror. He reciprocated with a deadpan stare. “You have, haven’t you? I went to Jaemin’s house at four in the morning yesterday and—”
“Why were you at his house at four?!”
“Doesn’t matter.”
You looked at him in disbelief, scoffing, and you looked over to Soorim with the words ‘can you believe this guy?’ ready to fire from your tongue. You could not say it. Not when Soorim looked absolutely compelled by Haechan’s bullshit allegations. She even stopped scarfing down her food. You made a mistake in calling her up here.
“What matters is that he looked absolutely fucked out absolutely naked, but not only that!” a scrunchie. He pulled out a scrunchie from his backpack. That was yours. Even had your hair on it. “This is yours isn’t it? I’ve caught you red handed, Y/N, now answer me—”
Haechan’s eyes were out to kill.
“You wrapped it, right? I’m too young to be called Uncle Hyuck so please tell me you did.”
“We are not—”
“That explains why you were walking all weird yesterday!” Soorim exclaimed. “Y/N, you know you could tell me these things, right? There is no—”
“We are not fucking!”
This wasn’t the best conversation to have at a family restaurant.
A waiter stopped serving the table next to you, it’s occupants (that included three kids and their parents) froze and looked at you in horror. An innocent passerby spilled his drink on his tray. You sharply inhaled, bowing your head apologetically. Thank god there weren’t any managers here— the three of you might have actually gotten kicked out.
With a cough, you collected yourself, giving both of your companions the stink eye for putting you in such a compromising position. “Can I not sleep at my boyfriend’s place without— without doing anything of that sort?” you huffed, ignoring the red hot heat creeping up your neck. “And as a matter of fact, I was walking weird because I fell down the while lugging plywood up the stairs, so shut the fuck up.”
The two of them let out a shriek at the same time.
“Boyfriend?! And what— you fell off the fucking stairs?!”
“Did you do as I told you?! Did you follow Hyuck’s five step guide on How To Trap Your—”
“Quiet!”
You shushed the both of them before the three of you actually got kicked out.
“Yes, boyfriend. Yes, I fell off the stairs. No, I did not follow Hyuck’s guide to whatever,” you spitefully took a sip from your drink. “You never even told me what the hell that was.”
As Haechan started to further explain his guide with Soorim enthusiastically taking everything in, you were caught by the buzzing of your phone. The screen lit up. Someone sent you an e-mail— the sender you did not recognize at all. You wiped your fingers with some tissues on the table before taking the device, clicking on the notification immediately after.
“Right. After you tell him that you’re— hey! Y/N, are you even listening?”
You shot up. Haechan noticed the distraught look in your eyes. His brows furrowed together.
“What’s wrong?”
Tumblr media
The following weekend, you went out and treated Jaemin to dinner at a fancy Chinese restaurant despite his many complaints. He was about to pay for everything again, but this time you were faster in stealing the check. Afterward, you stopped by a nearby hardware store to buy another two pieces of plywood. You’ve been painting a lot more frequently lately, and you’ve been experimenting more on larger scale works. It was fortunate that Jaemin was there to help you bring the large sheets of wood this time.
“There we go.”
Jaemin settled the wood resting upright against your living room wall, right beside a few stained cans of paint underneath layers of newspaper. You thanked him, smiling, and he ruffled the hair on your head.
“You should ask me whenever you need to do some heavy work alright? We don’t want a rerun of last time,” you cringed upon recalling. That wasn’t a pretty fall. “How are your legs? Have the bruises healed?”
“Almost. You don’t have to worry,” you assured him. He sighed in relief.
Dinner and a shopping trip weren’t the only reasons you called him out tonight. You had actually been meaning to tell him something within the past three days. Your parents knew, Haechan and Soorim found out during lunch last time, Renjun and Jeno might have already found out thanks to their loudmouthed friend. All that’s left was Jaemin. It was his reaction that would help you make the decision.
But why was it so difficult to start talking?
“I’m gonna head out now,” he hummed, pulling you into his chest. You bit down your lip, contemplating, and maybe he noticed your unease and hesitation, as if he could hear your unsaid thoughts, because he lightly pulled away to look at your face and spoke. “What is it? Do you wanna tell me something?”
Of course, you thought to yourself. He’d probably know you’re hungry before your stomach could even rumble.
You gently pried away his hands from your arms, a hollow smile directed to him. Concern flashed through his eyes, but he held back his tongue, waiting for you to say your mind instead.
“Yeah…” you started. “I— I do have something to tell you.”
That was what you said, but as the clock ticked a couple dozen times in the background, you still had yet to tell him. It wasn’t easy to tell him. Because you were afraid that the moment you opened your mouth to squeeze out a single word, you might not make it to finish the entire sentence. If it were him, this might have been easy. But you were not, so it took a little more effort on your part to let the words go.
Maybe you shouldn’t have looked him in the eye, because the moment you did, your eyes stung from the threat of tears and so you jerked your head to the side.
But you weren’t able to evade, because Jaemin decided to follow you. You turned away again, looking towards the unplugged television, but it was once again replaced by Jaemin’s dark brown eyes. Your eyes stung, your lips pressed together, and at that moment you couldn’t help but laugh at his ridiculous actions throwing your head down in the midst of it, but your laughter got choked up by the sudden streaming of tears that you had come unprompted.
Jaemin panicked.
“Hey, hey, baby, what’s wrong? What is it?” he ducked down to reach your face, cupping your cheeks with his large hands as you wiped away your tears. “It’s okay, you can tell me, baby. I’ll listen to everything, okay?”
It took you a while to regain your voice, but Jaemin patiently waited with words of consolation. You couldn’t understand how one person could have this much goodwill and kindness in them.
Eventually your sniffling died down, and so you finally willed yourself to speak. “I— I joined Ten’s exhibition, right? And— and there was a possibility that other artists or institutions might be interested in the participants, right?”
“Mhm,” he replied, stroking the back of your head as you tightly gripped the front of his shirt. “Go on.”
“I— I got scouted? You know PIOA? In Paris? They— they offered me a full scholarship if I…” you paused for a moment, biting the inside of your mouth. “If I transfer there for the remaining months until my last year.”
Jaemin took a while to absorb it, silence flooding along with your occasional sniffles.
“Isn’t that a good thing? Ah, ah, baby look at me, look at me,” he grabbed your shoulders, frowning when he made contact with your red stained eyes. He brushed your cheek with his thumb, heart heavy from seeing you like this. It pained him to see you this way. “Why are you crying? Don’t you want to go?”
A beat of silence. You swallowed, speaking in a small, shaky voice.
“Do you want me to go?”
Another beat of silence.
“Of course! Can you imagine that out of all the people that joined that exhibit, they chose you! Your talent and hard work shouldn’t go to waste,” Jaemin inhaled sharply in between his speech, managing a smile for you to see. “I’m really proud of you, Y/N. An opportunity like this doesn’t come that easily.”
“Jaemin.”
You softly sounded, letting your head fall into his chest. He held you close, as if you were leaving at that instant.
“You know I was so happy when we got in touch again, when I came back to Korea. I know I don’t have a lot going on for me, but I could easily forget all of that because I’m with you,” once more, you felt the tears start to rise up again, but you tried your hardest to swallow them down. “It hasn’t even been that long since we got reunited and now you’re… you’re just telling me to leave you again miles, miles away as if it’s nothing.”
“It’s not like that, Y/N. It’s hard for me too, you know,” he muttered into your hair with a slight whine, his chin resting over your head. “But it’s not like we’re never going to see each other again, right? We managed for seven years, what’s two or three more?”
When he heard you stifle a laugh, laughing despite your sniveling, he couldn’t help but laugh along too. Once more and perhaps the last that night, he pulled away so he could look at the smile on your face, eyes still red and watery, and he pressed a warm kiss on your forehead.
“You have nothing to worry about, baby. We can visit each other during breaks and—” he breathed out, lips curling into a smile. “I’ll call you every day.”
Right, you wiped away your remaining tears, huffing out a brief, airy chuckle.
You looked at him, hopeful, earnest.
“Every day?”
You asked.
“Every day.”
He answered.
Tumblr media
You were never going to get used to airports. They always carried a bitter, cold air that signified a goodbye that you were far too familiar with. Today was no different.
“Don’t forget to drink your vitamins alright? It’s a new environment so you might need some time to get used to it. Oh! And—”
“Dude, you’re worse than her actual mom.”
Jaemin shot a smile to your mother at the mention, who was waiting for your group to finish from a distance with your father. Your mother was to stay with you in Paris for a week until you got everything settled down while the four boys, Soorim, and your father decided to send you off today. Though, unlike your usual experiences with leaving and returning, today was much louder, more rowdy. It was a nice change— you only wished that it would last longer.
“It’s okay, I appreciate the concern,” you laughed. “Do I have to report back to you everything before I go to bed?”
“Well, if you can,” Jaemin mused, locking his pinky finger with yours and swinging your hand into the air from side to side. “Kidding, kidding. I trust you’ll take care of yourself there.”
A chorus of gagging noises broke out when you pulled his shirt, burying your face into his chest, prompting him to smile and wrap his arms around you. You drowned them out, though, only focusing on how warm he was despite the cold brushing of the wind, how he held you with so much gentleness that one would think he was afraid that he might break you.
It was funny how free you felt when you were trapped inside his embrace.
“How many times do I have to say goodbye to you at the fucking airport?” you grumbled, tears welling up again and so you wiped them away with your sweater sleeve. “Wait, why aren’t you crying. Aren’t you even at the very least sad that I’m gonna leave?”
Jaemin chuckled, replacing your hand with his to brush away the stray tears.
“If I cry in front of you then you probably won’t even board the plane.”
You hated that he was right.
“I’ll do it after you leave,” he let out a laugh, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. At that moment, the pre-boarding announcement rang throughout the area's speakers, signalling that it was time for you and your mother to go. Grabbing your suitcase, you sent a grateful look to each one of them— your father, Jeno, Renjun, Donghyuck, Soorim, and—
Jaemin suddenly grabbed your suitcase handle before you could go, his hand right beside yours. You locked eyes with him, wide and surprised.
He landed a kiss right on your lips.
“Call me when you arrive, okay?”
You mindlessly nodded, still in the midst of recovering from shock. Your mother called out to you to start moving.
As you walked away, head still locked behind, you watched as the four screamed, cheered, and teased your boyfriend as they shook and pushed him around like a ragdoll, while he just kept on looking at you with a smile.
“Don’t worry, Y/N! I’ll record his crying face!”
Haechan screamed despite being several feet away already, and you stifled out a laugh.
You might have to say goodbye today, but time will come when you would meet again.
Tumblr media
Across the cobblestone tiled sidewalk, people were walking about, the streets were filled with tourists and natives, the mid noon sun was just in reach. Summers had always been crowded in the city, and you were swimming in the middle of the crowd in a far too inappropriate attire, sweating as you spoke into the phone.
“Oh, yeah. I’m on my way to the gallery now— I had to stop by at a cafe first, though.”
“You seem busy.”
Jaemin’s voice echoed from your phone’s speakers. The streetlight turned red. You followed the crowd as you crossed the street.
“Yeah… It’s a lot of back and forth work, even on the last day of the show, but it’s all worth it,”you replied. “Did you know that people kept on asking me who my muse was for Mahiwaga? Ever the popular boy, even when you’re not here.”
It has been a year and a half since you first got to France. Things have been going well on your part with your budding art career— and so far you’ve guested in three exhibitions, but you have yet to have one solo. Even though you and Jaemin promised to see each other during breaks, it was practically impossible to align your time. He was busy with internships and his organizations this year and so were you. But one thing the both of you have faithfully maintained throughout the course of your time away was calling each other every day, even if it was just for a few minutes.
A cyclist sped past you. Jaemin’s voice was heard again. He laughed at your last remark, saying that he wasn’t that popular, but all of a sudden his voice turned into a more serious tone.
“Since you have a lot of work these days…”
Your brows furrowed, squinting as the light shone into your eyes. You clutched your sling bag, heels clattering as you passed by the cream, brown, and grey buildings.
“Should we call less often?”
You stopped in your tracks.
What?
“No— no, Jaems, what are you saying? Are you sick? Are you not feeling well?” you were almost late for the opening, but you couldn’t care less at the moment. What was he on about? Call less? Never had that crossed your mind even once. “I don’t even get to see you anymore, so if anything… we should call as often as we can.”
A few people passed from behind. His end of the line was silent. Your lips scrunched into a frown, confused.
“Jaemin?”
“That’s a relief.”
Before you could even ask him anything, the call ended.
“What the hell?” you huffed, staring at your phone screen in perplexity before you returned it to your pocket. Maybe he was feeling a lot more lonely than usual— that was unavoidable, but the both of you made it work. You should ask him what that was all about later. Now, you really needed to head to the gallery. With a sigh, you marched forward, stopping at an intersection where the large, eggshell white walls of the gallery stood across.
You stopped before the crosswalk, the lights green, and a few vehicles passed by, and your thoughts were once again clouded by Na Jaemin and why did he suddenly propose that. Was he getting sick of you? Was this his way of hinting a breakup? Your face contorted into a look of horror. No, you shook your head at the notion. He literally sent you a picture of a weird keychain last night  saying it reminded him of you. Another sigh. The light went red. You crossed the street.
Maybe it was because you were thinking too much of him, maybe you were missing him too much, but the moment you reached the middle of the crosswalk, your heart suddenly stopped, legs froze, eyes stuck to the sight right in front of you.
There he stood, right before the front stairs of the gallery with dozens of people disappearing and passing by. He spotted you, eyes lighting up, the corners of lips automatically quirking upwards. He sent you a small wave.
You ran.
“Hi— woah!”
Maybe you were causing a scene, but you didn’t care. You couldn’t find it in you to care when Na Jaemin was right fucking here. He chuckled when you suddenly ran into him, wrapping you in a tight hug that matched your own. “You know, I was afraid that you’d actually agree to limiting our calls,” he started, and you looked up, the light shining into your eyes. Jaemin’s smile was as bright as the sun. “I thought I would have to deport myself back to Korea.”
Your lips quivered, unable to hold it back. Yeah, you shook your head, a shaky laugh leaving your lips. It’s always been like this.
“Is this where you’re holding the exhibit? Wow, it’s a lot bigger than in pictures.”
There are points in your life where you’re met with a choice— to stay or leave, to smile or cry. Always him between something else. Twice. You’ve said goodbye to him twice choosing to leave. For a moment, it might seem that you’ve chosen the other. But that was never the case, because at the end of each day it was him you were thinking of, it was him that your lines end, it would always be—
“Y/N? Y/N? Are you crying?” he exclaimed, frowning as he wiped away your tears. “Ah, it’s such a happy day today, you shouldn’t be crying.”
“I missed you, you dummy.”
—Him. You’d always choose him. Na Jaemin. Jaems. Nana. Your childhood best friend. Your boyfriend—
He smiled at you, eyes shining, pressing a kiss on your forehead before taking you into his arms once more with a shaky breath. “I missed you too.”
—Your mahiwaga.

OH HERE WE GO LADIES IT’S RIVERDALE, CHAPTER EIGHTY: “Purgatorio”
I’m tuning in to be VERY entertained on the grounds that I missed almost the entirety of S4 and will not understand anything
we open with an incredible analogue comparing the football team to the Army, as men do construct rituals: football players get blown into the sky, etc., in a heartrending mash-up of Archie’s innocence + the American ideal/expectations/pipeline of masculinity
Archie Company is decked out appropriately to storm Hürtgen Forest
that art direction trope where a character’s hearing goes EEEEEEEEEEEEEE after an explosion……...delightful
the Vixens and friends cheering him on from the sidelines as if Archie can only process his unprocessable present through the lens of his past………...hits the spot
distressingly wood-based rifles for our purposes
Archie > Dawson: I don’t mind telling you I felt emotion upon Archie hoisting his war buddy over his shoulders to that quadruple-toned “Chivalric Archie Using His Strength for Good” tune, like when he broke his whole hand busting Cheryl out of Sweetwater River
WHEN HE SAW HIRAM LODGE, I’M TELLING YOU!
Hiram’s dragon-scale gloves? absolutely savory; he would
“Yonkers” is one of those New York place names I don’t totally buy is real (Poughkeepsie is another)
the sepia-toned light in this hospital room rings true judging by all the Captain America fanfiction I’ve read; I also like the mint-colored hand towels draped on Archie’s bedframe bought, one assumes, using the Department of Defense’s Kohl’s Cash
Archie made Sergeant, which is the best ranking for a fictional character: important enough that they can be a leader, get into trouble; low-profile enough that you don’t have to write them in the room making terrible decisions; probably won’t die immediately, as a Captain or Private might be
Fifth period is AP English: Archie reads A Farewell to Arms to Corporal Jackson, a WWI novel by Hemingway that Jug definitely turned him onto
Christ, Archie looks good in that on-leave jacket thing
I like Jackson’s subtle graph paper-print hospital gown
Gay?!: was Jackson in love with Archie? is he gonna bus to Riverdale once he’s off his pain meds? RAS, is that you in there?
God you know I love that haunted-ass Exorcist wooden bench bus light lighting
how long has the WW been relocated under Pop’s??? I do NOT know what happened to La Bonne Nuit
Sexy, aesthetic Southside: Fangs’ hair? his Tony Stark glasses? the girls’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” Burmese pythons? Toni’s headdress and immaculate glossed lip?
Sixth period is Intro to Film: the only part of From Dusk till Dawn I’ve seen is Salma Hayek putting her toe in Quentin Tarantino’s mouth but judging from that I figure I’d like the rest
The female gaze: Jesus Sweet Pea still looks good
Toni’s stage is flanked by twin pillars of melting candles and I would like someone to track those down for my bathroom
if they lay one hand on Pop Tate…
Betty appears to be, on her own, running the FBI training course. Betty is such a freak
Betty’s FBI-appointed psychologist is “Dr. Starling,” wears a great yellow blouse; Betty eats what appears to be a mini-sized Milky Way
her blond FBI trainer-boyfriend (uh) Glen appears to be an unholy fusion of Jimmi Simpson and that one actor with brown hair and really sharp light eyes whose acting credits I can’t think of right now, you know who I’m talking about (not the guy from Vampire Diaries)
I quite like her patterned blouse and I hate his yellow (gold?!) and blue tie
Please protect Betty: obviously we stan the Silence of the Lambs shit even as it remains infuriating Bryan Fuller couldn’t get his hands in it
Betty’s cat’s crying was so disturbingly baby-like that I had to leave the room once I realized it was in fact a cat
I’ve watched the Elisa Lam tape too many times in recent hours to handle this hallway shot
REALLY GROSS LICKING NOISES
the Trash Bag Killer coming at her was scary :(
Betty’s lovely blue knit cardi with the puffed sleeves!
50 Shades of Betty: clearing her throat before the doctor quite finishes her sentence—Lili Reinhart continues to be great at conveying “slightly perturbing subterranean tension”
was Charles a serial killer too??? oh damn!
Betty has been successfully holding off giving Glen a key to her place until now, an era that must come to a close
fellas, “Do I at least get a kiss?” is a bad move
Veronica was rich: Veronica’s new digs: exposed brick, bougiely avant-garde chandelier; possibly an elevator door right there behind the dude?
Veronica has married Hiram, to no one’s surprise
Chadwick looks like Jimmi Simpson and brunet Evan Peters plus a jaw
Veronica’s single-puffled-sleeved gown…..madamn (she has absolutely been taking secret birth control pills)
Summer + Blair = Veronica: of course Veronica would be great at Howard Ratner’s job; I MUST know what “specialty showcase haute couture offense” Vinnie has committed
T-Dubbs’ green jacket
Veronica pretended she was working at like, a department store? but she MISSED the EDGE post-day-trading
their apartment is so expensive that their bedroom is totally exposed
oh my god, Hermione
Best costume bit: please get me these satiny green high-waisted slacks?! and ugh her blouse has shoulder tassels……..she’s flourishing
“That’s threatening to an alpha like Chad.”
yes, they have a private elevator. fine.
Glen and Chad get their ties from the same Men’s Warehouse
“When that helicopter went down on the way to Martha’s Vineyard…”
you know kissing is 4-real when one person cups their hand to the back of the other person’s neck all close
I don’t understand the drop of the Glamergé egg but I appreciate that there is one and that Veronica is like, get this the fuck out of my house
Veronica’s shiny cropped tweed two-piece, Yvonne’s weird feathery coat that matches her bf’s shirt (you know she’s supposed to be “too much” because she’s got big hoop earrings)
God, Jughead is next and I’m not gonna be able to handle it
OH GOD IT’S SO MUCH WORSE THAN I THOUGHT
Alphabet City?! the piano?? the fucking East Coast Beat typewriter shit—the day robe? I’m—READING CLUBMASTERS? FORSYTHE???
OH GOD HE’S DATING ANOTHER WRITER (she has nice pants)
Jughead eats: “that place you like” is a HOT DOG STAND in the middle of SOME GRASS
I’ve seen Brick like thirty times: Jughead wears high-ankle light blue jeans, grey socks, and spectators that blend to create the illusion of wading boots. I’m going to commit a crime
Jughead doubts it: “So did Kerouac. And Hemingway. And Fitzgerald.”
fuck yes I love Floundering Jughead, and his Pushy Agent who pronounces “career” like “Korea,” and the continuing tradition of Jughead getting kicked out of his house
I like Literary Grifter’s sweater
the Brat Pack, and most of the Rat Pack for that matter, were actors, but I assume RAS couldn’t resist the rhyme

Tumblr media
This is the place i'm staying i didn't know the hotel had pink rooms but apparently they zo ahahaha i have a self walk-in closet i have a mini closet as well close to the bed i have a couple of seating areas where they kick the ball was giving me a black glam beauty station moment everything in this room had me dead for a few seconds right now issa lil bit cold outside and rainy but nothing serious to make u not to go out n explore if you were wondering yaz the bathroom is also pink
Tumblr media
One of my biggest mistakes was not bringing blushes and highlighters but when i'm in Seoul i don't use highlighter instead i use a lot blushes and bronzers for mistake i brought with me the Dragun Beauty face kit let's call it like da ladies n gentlemens don't buy this product issa waist of time and money this girl put a fucking fake ass synthetic wig w/makeup idk but you but ain't feeling it she waisted so much money on the packaging da she forgot the formula and pigmentation is what will make her business successful this kit lacks of pigments and the formula is not greatest or the baddest theirs a lot of kickback coming from the contours the shades in my opinion are not for everyone sorry hunny this ain't universal to me da shade in the top left corner is to dark for my fair friend Kioba and on me da shade looks grey-ish the other shade da looks like chocolate looks to orange for me the blushes are a no no as well the one da looks pink/red-ish call babygirl is ashy the other one a lost case u suppose to use powder blushes w/brush right? This blushes as soon u dip on em and tap the exes of the brush is like the blush fly w/the wind they literally disappears from the brush is like the brush didn't pick nothing the highlighters are good for a lids inner corners moment this is something da nobody ask for cuz we all have our own blushes, highlighters and contour da we luv in other brands this is more for the people da stan this brand and this person living a fantasy CANT RELATE i prefer the realtea of the world i regret so much bringing this with me
Tumblr media
This right here is my favorite part of this video ahahaha i went shopping to Tony Moly issa Korean makeup/skin care brand the majority of the time their makeup and skin care is animated they have bunnies, Rose's and pandas in their packaging i bought what i think was fitting for me to take with me home i bought the bunny glosses, two setting sprays, one water cleanser, a powder for the pores witch is da cat cute compact, makeup remover wipes and a bunch of masks ik and we all aware k beauty targets just one demographic however don't let da down you cuz i have use korean makeup in the past like very specific products such as lipsticks, blushes, bronzers, highlighters, eye shadows, glosses and lip tints everything work like wonders like any brand in the beauty industry not all are pigmented and with good formulation if u want good products u need to buy from specific brands if you're a on the go gal da luvs everyday settle makeup k beauty might be for you the skin care is for everyone and girl the have pretty good quality products
Tumblr media
I hope one day K beauty becomes more diverse because they have amazing products i think a lot of y'all will like this is all about trying new things and see other sides of makeup when i'm here in Seoul i use a cushion foundation dewy setting spray n a lip tint and i'm ready ahahaha i will make more K beauty hauls and more give details of the products and why they're worth to try from my favorite brands a look up to when i'm doing shopping i might do as well a skin care favorites da might work for y'all also ok my Alpha Gang i hope you guys enjoy this tiny vlog of mines i'm so excited to continue making more vlogs but idk if u enjoy this Katzha Vlog let me know in the comment section and lets make this a thing ahahahaha thank guys so much for watching i see you guys soon 🐺

The Meme And His Tutor
Part 47: The Day The Tutor Went Shopping With Jaehi
Co-written with @jiminieblush
Recommended Song: favOriTe by LOOΠΔ
|Masterlist|
Summary:
After a comment about how barren your apartment was, you decided to make it homely and go shopping with Jaehi. She had her own errand to do.
Genre: Fluff, comedy
Pairing: Jungkook X Reader (Y/N)
Warnings: Swearing, implied bondage, implied usage of sex toys.
Word Count:4325
Length: 47/?
Tumblr media
"Miri! Come on baby girl!"
You shrugged on your coat while waiting for the little pupper to join you at the door. Her nails clicked against the hardwood flooring as she approached, but was suddenly interrupted by a loud clanging sound. What the fuck?
Dropping your shoes, you ventured further into the apartment and noticed Miri picking herself up off the floor, a metal soda can by her side. You sighed; trust Taehyung to forget to tidy up all of his cans of drink from the night before. He could be surprisingly messy when he wanted to be. You sighed and proceeded to put the cans in recycling. Yes, you enjoyed having Bangtan come to visit and most times they cleaned up after themselves. But sometimes you just wanted to shoo them out the door. Like when Jin brought up the homeliness of your apartment. Especially the empty corner of your living area.
Upon moving in, you'd set up a cheap bookshelf to display the few books that didn't fit on the shelf above your desk. On top was a fake orchid, that had began to droop with its own weight, and a picture frame with no picture it in. It looked rather pathetic, though you didn't pretend to be the best interior designer in the world.
Jin's comment had stemmed from Yoongi half-heartedly joking about you needing another couch in order for everyone to sit comfortably when they visited. That then spiralled as everyone felt the need to comment on what you could do to make your place look less like a pop-up showroom from Ikea and more like a lived-in home. You knew their words were not intended to be insults and you didn't take them as such. You had been so caught up in Jungkook, university and Operation D that decorating your home was the last thing on your mind.
Miri trotting over to you carrying her lead in her mouth drew you from your thoughts. You must've left it by the door after hearing the commotion in the kitchen. Clipping it to her collar, you stuffed your feet into your Timbs and headed out for a quick walk around the neighbourhood.
You opened your front door with a sleeping Miri carried under one arm. The poor thing having used up her energy when you stopped at a nearby dog park. It was nice to see her getting along with her own kind. You took her into your bedroom, placed her on the foot of the bed and went back into the hallway to take off your coat and shoes.
Heading into your kitchen, you grabbed a drink and connected your phone to your Bluetooth speakers wanting some music to fill the silence. Just as you were about to lock your phone, it buzzed with a text.
Oh! It was Jaehi!
'I'm bored. Wanna go shopping with me?'
You groaned, feet aching from chasing Miri to get her back on her lead after letting her loose to play.
‘Now?’
As if on cue, your stomach growled. The alarm Jungkook had set before falling asleep decided not to go off this morning, leaving you rushing to get Jungkook out the door before he had management calling him. As soon as he had gone, you'd got ready yourself to take Miri out and forgotten to eat.
‘In an hour or so?’
Perfect.
‘Sounds like a plan!’
The two of you arranged a time and place to meet, and then you set about cooking a late breakfast. Hopefully your pancakes wouldn't turn into crumpets again. You never really understood how you accomplished that feat in the first place.
You felt too lazy to make the batter from scratch like you normally did so you grabbbed a batter mix out of a cupboard along with eggs and milk from the fridge.
They were a success; perfectly golden brown on either side and thick enough that they were fluffy inside. You held back tears of success. Quickly slicing up some bananas, you smeared chocolate over the hot little clouds before topping them off with the banana pieces. You took the plate into the living room, pausing your music so you could watch some TV. There wasn't much interesting on, only a drama that you had seen a few episodes of but never completed. Not that it mattered much anyway considering you were far too distracted to pay attention.
What could you do to make your home more homey?
You eyed up the empty corner. Because of the layout you couldn't exactly see the TV from over there which was why you never really bothered with that area. Maybe you could turn it into a Miri area... But she didn't exactly need that much space. Her bed was visible from the sofa and her food near the kitchen. A few toys were dotted around the place. Maybe you could get a proper basket to keep them contained. But a basket would only fill a tiny section of space. You needed something bigger. And then it hit you. Maybe you could make it into a 'chill zone'. You could even move your guitar to over there. The only other thing was seating... another sofa would not only be too expensive, but too far away to be completely social.
Hmm, you'd have to have a search when you're out shopping. Jaehi might even have a suggestion.
'I'm outside.'
You put away the last item of your washing up, a mixing bowl, before slipping on your shoes and coat and grabbing your mini rucksack. Miri was still asleep but you'd refreshed her water and refilled her food, not quite sure what time you would be home.
Jaehi was leaning against a lamppost, eyes on the phone in her hand. You called out to her as you approached and grinned when her eyes lit up.
"Unnie!"
You walked towards the closest bus stop together, discussing what you'd been up to that morning and where you planned to shop.
"I need to decorate and stuff, you?"
Jaehi shrugged. "I just want to hang out. Maybe pop into a few stores. There's one that Goseong has asked me to visit to pick up a couple things..." She trailed off, cheeks lightly dusted pink.
"What's that?"
It wasn't any of your business, but she couldn't trail off all embarrassed like that and not expect you to ask.
"Nothing important!" Her quick response had you suspicious. You went to delve deeper when she cut you off with a nervous giggle. "Ha, I'll tell you later."
She gave a slight nod towards the handful of people waiting in the bus shelter a few metres away. You didn't push further, already having the slightest hint.
She cleared her throat, "So... uh, why are you wanting to decorate?"
"The guys said it wasn't very homey and there wasn't enough seating. But I can't afford another sofa nor do I have space for one."
"Why don't you buy cushions? It was the traditional seating for meals and all."
You tried to picture how the space would look with a few cushions on the floor.
"I'm afraid it'll still feel empty..."
Jaehi cupped her chin as she thought some more.
"Goseong's housemate has bean bags in his room for when they play console games together."
Immediately you could picture a bean bag beside the bookcase. Something you could chill in while reading.
"That might work..."
Jaehi took out her phone. "I'll text Goseong to see if he can find out where his housemate got his from. It'll save us from searching loads of shops."
You gave her a thankful smile and ducked inside the bus shelter to check how long you would have to wait for the next bus. It was due meaning it would arrive in the next two minutes or so. Or maybe that's just how buses were in England... You still had so much to learn, but was slowly beginning to settle in to your new life in Korea.
Jaehi tapped on your shoulder to get your attention before pointing at the bus that was coming around the corner. Huh, strangely punctual. Very different to how buses back home seemed to come either super early or really fucking late. You remembered one particular time when you needed to get to college and the bus was an hour late...
Jaehi led the way onto the bus, strategically worming her way through the small crowd of people boarding the bus. You tapped your bus pass to the scanner and took a seat near the back. The two of you chatted about your course while you waited for your stop: the subway.
"-I don't understand why the group projects are necessary," Jaehi sighed, slumping against your shoulder. "It's a waste of time and not a true reflection of everyone's work."
You smiled, grateful she happened to share the same sentiments as you. "It's a good job we don't have many to work on through the semester."
She nodded in agreement. "I'm shotgunning you for any and all group projects since you're older and therefore wiser."
Your eyebrows shot up into your hairline. "Wise my ass!"
She scoffed, "Are you joking?"
You shrugged, cheeks tinting under her wide eyes. Wise? You weren't wise. Sure, you had a lot to say in class sometimes. But that was because some students and their opinion rubbed you the wrong way. Making a comment that added value to the conversation was one thing, but saying something for attention or in an attempt to be funny was just plain foolish.
"I just say things that make the most logical sense. Not everything has to be controversial to be thought provoking."
"And that is very wise."
You rolled your eyes at her grin. "Who says I want to partner with you for all group projects anyway?"
"Your social awkwardness."
You couldn't argue. Even if you weren't avoiding a lot of social interaction due to the unwanted attention that came from dating Jungkook, you would have still been wary about making friends and partnering up for a project. Hel,l all you had to do was look back on your college days to be reminded of how your social anxiety became crippling when the word 'team' was mentioned.
"But I'm possibly the least socially awkward person around," she said and reached over to press the button signalling you wanted the bus to stop. "Which means we balance each other out and therefore make a good team."
You smiled at her and ruffled her hair, much to her annoyance.
The two of you perused the markets together before heading towards the more modern high streets. It made you feel a little awkward since you were used to holding Jungkook's hand while out and about. You stuck as close to Jaehi's side as possible, holding onto her bag strap whenever someone brushed by too close. She didn't seem to mind being the buffer.
Earlier on in your time living in Korea, Jungkook had already introduced you to how certain stores would have large items delivered to you. A little tidbit of information you had a feeling would be coming in pretty handy for this shopping trip.
"Where are we heading first?" You asked, not familiar with the street you walked down.
"I'm still waiting for Goseong to reply, but there's a furniture shop at the next intersection. We could see if they sell bean bags until he gets back to me."
You carried along slightly behind her until an idea came to mind.
"Jaehi, you said you had something to pick up for him. Why don't we do that first?"
She shook her head. "No, no. It's fine."
"No, I insist. My shopping will probably take longer and I'd feel bad about dragging you around all day."
After one more glance at her phone she sighed. "Sure...I guess we could do that."
Why did she seem so reluctant? Was it something you said? Or was it something to do with what she had to pick up? You didn't have a chance to ask as she took the lead once more and started in the direction of a narrow side street. You felt like you recognised the street. Had you come down here before?... You wracked your brain trying to remember. You had. You had been down this street before. With Chubs! When you went to the-
"We're here."
You felt your cheeks heating.
"Uh..."
Jaehi's hands found the crook of your elbow and pulled you over towards the wall.
"So, you totally don't have to come inside if you don't want to. I'll be super quick. I prom-"
"It's okay."
Jaehi's eyes went wide. "You sure? I know we're not super close yet and I don't want to weird you out already."
"I'm actually quite honored you felt comfortable enough with me to come this far. So I don't mind going in there with you."
Please God let there be no-one who recognised you from your last trip there. There was something in the way she smiled that made you suspicious about why she might enjoy this. But nonetheless you followed her up the stairs to the shop. Reaching the top of the steps your drops. Oh no. The woman that sold you the dildos was in.
A chorus of "Nice to see you again," greeted your ears.
You and Jaehi looked at each other, both confused at the thought of the other having been to a SEX SHOP before. Your lips twitched, threatening to smile. Jaehi brought a hand to her mouth, coughing awkwardly. Neither of you knew whether to laugh or cry.
The lady that served you last time and the one that recognised Jaehi approached the two of you.
"So, how are you enjoying those dildos you purchased?"
"And Jaehi, how are you doing with the restraints you bought? Goseong broken them yet?"
It was impossible to hold back the laughter any longer. Jaehi, too, burst into giggles. The two sales assistants even joined in.
"That's actually why I'm here," Jaehi said after calming down, "They weren't strong enough."
The sales assistant's jaw dropped. "Were you being too rough on him? I told you he might not have been ready for a bigger attachment."
Your sales assistant seemed to sense your confusion.
"A strap-on attachment, honey." Your eyes widened."Do you need anything or are you just accompanying Jaehi?"
"I...uh... I was thinking of buying some... lingerie..."
She looked between you and Jaehi before smirking. "Say no more. Follow me."
Towards the back of the store, away from all the toys, was a section dedicated purely to lingerie  and...costumes.
"So, are you looking for a new bra and panties set? Or something a bit more exciting?"
You mulled the question over. "Not just a bra...something...special."
A devious look came to her eye. "Something special? I think we have a few things you might be interested in."
Your cheeks burned when she gestured to a selection of latex and PVC bodysuits.
"Are these more like it?”
You ran your fingers over the material. "As much as he would love this, I think it's a bit much."
"So something more subtle?"
She stepped back, drawing you towards another rack.
"It's for our first time," you admitted, "I want something to make me feel more confident..."
"I see~ How much skin are you willing to show?"
You already had an idea of what you wanted. "Do you have something that would show off my legs? He loves my legs and butt."
She giggled and nodded before picking what looked to be a very short dress off a rack.
"This is a baby doll style. You can get them in pretty much every design and style whether that's something a little bit more revealing such a this:" She gestured to the one she held, slipping her hand between the fabric to show that the cups were open to allow the breasts to hang freely. You shook your head and she swapped it for a baby pink satin one. "Or, you can be more modest."
You scrunched your nose at the choice of colour. But you liked the design.
"Do you have that in a different colour?"
"Of course, sweetie, any preference?"
"Uh... we both like red and black."
She quirked a brow. "I can work with that. Red, the colour of heat and passion. Black, the colour of sophistication."
She walked further down the wall and motioned you over. The boutique didn't just stock it it plain black or red, but also in a mix of the two. You immediately pointed to that one. The cups and halter neck straps were blood red while the skirt was black.
"Ah~ the halter neck A-line. Good choice. Modest yet confident and sexy. It should suit you well."
She helped you find your correct size before taking it to the till point so she could get it packed up ready. You weren't expecting her to make idle chit-chat.
"How are you finding the 8 incher? Your boyfriend must be worried he won't compare size wise since you've been using that."
You awkwardly scratched the back of your neck. "More like it would reassure him."
Her jaw dropped. "No! He can't be... Jesus. You have been gifted.”
"Or punished."
She chuckled. "I wish you luck finding out."
"8 fucking inches?!" Jaehi's surprised voice from beside you made you startle. "8. Fucking. Inches?!" She repeated.
"Yeah..."
"Have you choked on that dick yet?"
Oh god. You were blushing.
"Uhm, not yet. I've been...cautious."
"Fair enough."
You swallowed and eyed the set of cuffs on the till point in front of her.
"So... Goseong is into... buttstuff... wouldn't of pegged him as the type." You were going to hell for that pun.
Jaehi grinned shamelessly. "That's not even the worst of it."
Your sales assistant cleared her throat, "You said it'll be your first time with your boyfriend? Are you both virgins or...?"
You felt your cheeks heat up. "Um... he is, I'm not."
Jaehi gasped then tutted, "He's not going to last long then."
You noticed your sales assistant reach under the counter and pick something up, scanning it.
"You poor thing. Since we're having a stock clearance on these fleshlights, I'll throw it in for free. It trains a man to last longer."
You looked at the golden box, stuttering out a thank you. You paid for your items and waited for Jaehi to pay for her items. The sales assistant wished the two of you luck as you left the store.
The two of you spent the rest of the day searching and buying items for your apartment, Goseong having sent Jaehi the name of the shop he got his bean bag from. He even offered to pick you and Jaehi up so you wouldn't have to struggle with your shopping on public transport. The department store needed to order in the bean bag, the red one you wanted not being in stock, and so would be delivered to your apartment later on in the week.
You made sure to thank Goseong as he helped you put your shopping in the car. He was so nice. You could understand why he and Jaehi were together. Watching them together was the sweetest. You still couldn't believe they were kinky.
Back at home, you began filling the bare corner. Miri's toys were now in a little wicker basket she could dig her nose in to find her favourite. Before leaving, Jaehi and Goseong helped you to assemble a new non-wonky Ikea bookshelf upon which you were re-stacking your collection of books and knick knacks. A knock on your door followed by the sound of tapping on your door keypad had you startled, having not expected a guest.
It could only be one person.
"Jagi? It's me!"
You spun around to greet him but the sight of him had you standing there speechless.
"Jagi?..."
Red... His hair was red...
"Do you like it?"
You took slow steps towards him as your brain processed the new image, Jungkook moving forward to meet you halfway. Your hand came up and carded through his hair, its softness surprising you.
You gulped. You thought his black hair was sinful but this... this was...
"...Hot..."
His hand wrapped around your wrist, pulling it from his hair and entwining your fingers together.
"H-hot?"
You coughed awkwardly, only just realising you had spoken aloud. You had to cover yourself.
"Hot pink? Really Kookie?"
His grin dropped.
"Pink? It's not pink! It's a fiery red!"
You chuckled, "How is it red?! Its a vibrant dark pink!" You gave his hair a teasing tug.
His hands came to wrap around your waist as he rested his head on you shoulder and huffing in annoyance. The feeling of his breath on your neck sent a shiver shooting through you.
"I wanted red but the bleach lightened it..." he mumbled.
"It suits you very much," you admitted, "You've done red before. Pink is different."
His bunny grin appeared in full force. "Really?"
You nodded. "Somehow it makes you look mature and youthful at the same time. Is it permanent?"
"Semi."
"So it'll fade to a peachy pink?"
He nuzzled your cheek. "You're obsessed with peaches."
"That's because I am one."
You yelped when a palm met your ass with a smack.
Jungkook pulled back to smirk at you. "Firm peach."
You pulled away from him with a giggle.
"Or should I say juicy peach?"
"Jungkook!"
"Such a tempting peach but alas, it is not ready to enjoy."
Your cheeks burned with his insinuation but it made you remember something.
"Oh! I bought a gift for you today?"
"Really?"
You hummed in agreement and gestured to the sofa. He sat down as you grabbed the 'gift' from your bedroom. You had made sure to hide your lingerie with your dildos, not wanting Jungkook to see it before it was time.
You held the gift behind your back, keeping it out of his sight until you stood in front of him. You revealed it with a 'Tada~!'. He was a picture of confusion, slowly taking the box from you and scanning it. You pointed to the back where the rather brief description was.
His eyes bulged out of their sockets. "Noona?!"
A part of you wanted to laugh but you were mostly embarrassed.
"I uh... I felt bad for your wrist. It must be getting tired and I'm not ready to relieve it of its duties. So-"
"YOU GOT ME A GOLDEN FLESHLIGHT!"
"...For my golden maknae."
To your surprise, his hands found the back of your thighs and pulled you down onto his lap, wrapping you in a hug.
"I can't believe you got me a fucking fleshlight."
He was... happy?
"I'm glad you like it-"
"I love it! I can take it on tour with me! I'll think of you-"
You slapped a hand over his mouth. "Don't say stuff like that!"
He cocked an eyebrow and gently moved your hand away. "I'll have to get something for you."
You shook your head not really knowing what to say.
"Where did you even get this from? Did you order it or something?" He continued.
"Uh... Jaehi took me shopping today and she went to an... adult shop and I didn't want to wait outside. These were on sale."
He nodded in understanding before suddenly frowning. "Wait, Jaehi as in your nice friend Jaehi I met that time?"
"Uh huh. She kinky."
His eyes widened, muttering something under his breath that you didn't catch. He was quick to move on, glancing over your shoulder and frowning.
"Is that the same bookshelf?"
You shook your head. "I got it today. I wanted to make this place more homey."
Jungkook awed and placed a kiss on your temple.
"I thought about what Yoongi said about needing more seats so I ordered some beanbags."
"Some?"
"Okay one... for me... Jaehi convinced me to buy floor pillows. Like the ones you use in certain Run episodes."
You pointed to the space beside the bookshelf where you’d stacked the cushions while not in use.
Jungkook nodded. "That type of seating doesn't take up much space so that's understandable."
You buried your nose in his neck, breathing in the scent of his jumper. It was always so comforting.
"Will you be spending the night?"
"I can't," he sighed, "I have interviews and stuff."
You pouted. His schedule was gruelling and you missed waking up to him, cuddling up to his warmth.
"I'll have to make the most of you while I have you then."
Jungkook's eyes lit up mischievously.
"But no sexual stuff. No bumping uglies in any way!"
"Hey! I'm only interested in that stuff when you are. I'm not with you to 'bump uglies'. I'm with you because I love you as you are - a beautiful, memey, grey-ace, caring soul."
Cupping his cheeks you placed a soft kiss on his lips.
"And I love you too."
"Wanna watch some anime or a movie?"
"When do you have to go back? Because I recently discovered this awesome new anime series and I need you to watch it."
Jungkook clapped as his eyes lit up. You giggled as you hopped off his lap to fetch your remote. Meanwhile, he made himself comfy on the sofa by laying down, once again pulling you to him once you were in reach.
"I'm glad you like the hair Jagi. I was afraid you'd hate it."
"Its your hair. I have no say in what you do with it."
"I value your opinion, though."
You ruffled his soft locks. "As long as your scalp isn't burning and you're happy with it then I'm happy, baby."
"Bet you think I look like an anime protagonist."
You pecked him on the lips, "Yup. My bunny hero."
A/N: I would really appreciate it if you supported me on Kofi. Even if its just a little amount it will make a huge difference.

Our next stop was a quick visit to Chinatown. It’s a beautiful neighborhood to visit and a great place to shop and get souvenirs. I bought stamps for my postcard to my parents, a reusable bag that fits in another tiny carrying bag (that my friends since returning to Korea have commented that they plan to steal), and some Tiger Balm (my go-to when I get sick or bit by a bug). I also bought some mini cashew cookies for coworkers.
Despite being carefully put in my bag the cookies did break up a little on my flight back to Korea, so the packaging isn’t as nice.
View of the cookies from the side with the little ring. They look better from this angle.
Walking around was a lot of fun, but once again we mostly snacked as we wandered around. Starting first with some traditional snacks near the station. Our first stop was Buy Way Kitchen which served Kueh Tutu, a childhood favorite of my friend’s.
Kueh Tutu (or coconut cake) is made of steamed rice flour and traditionally filled with peanuts or palm sugar mixed with coconut. It’s served on banana leaf or pandan leaves and has expanded to include other flavors like chocolate. The stand we bought ours from were $2.50 for 5. You can watch how the woman made them below.
The other thing we split was my other friend’s favorite called muah chee. (麻糍) Muah chee is a peanut powder covered rice cake that came in a mass with tooth picks for us to pick out a piece. They were warm when we got them and sticky and chewy. It reminded me a lot of injeolmi (인절미) which is a type of sweet Korean rice cake (tteok/떡) usually dusted with bean powder of some kind. There is also similar versions found in Japan. The difference is that usually I don’t reheat the injeolmi and it’s usually cold when I get a chance to eat it. I think I much prefer it warmer like the muah chee we had. Though it is sticky, chewy and messy so make sure to chew it carefully so you don’t choke on it.

Muah chee 麻糍
We walked around for a bit with our snacks. There was plenty to see.
We even stopped momentarily at the Buddha tooth relic temple and museum. Which is free to visit. It is said that when Buddha died, his body was cremated and his left canine tooth was retrieved from the pyre. This relic was fought over for many years and a couple different temples claim to house it. I however did not see it or any of the other relics or things within the temple which is about six floors including a basement with vegetarian food available for a donation.
Tumblr media
You’re probably thinking but you were there! It’s free! Why didn’t you go see it? One: because I didn’t realize that’s what the temple was at the time. And two I hadn’t dressed accordingly. There is a dress code for the temple and usually when I go to a temple I make sure to dress accordingly, usually light weight long pants and a t-shirt with a long sleeved light weight sweater/jacket so I don’t have to put on additional layers. After walking in we got stopped by a staff member. At first it was a stupid mistake of having not taken off my hat, but then he motioned us over and started handing us things to cover up with and I was wearing shorts that went to my knees and a plain scoop t-shirt. Shorts apparently are not allowed and I guess, according to their website my shirt fell under “ect”.  Covering up one part I could’ve understood, but when I was handed two heavy covers in the heat when I already felt sweaty and gross I handed them back, bowed and darted out the door. (This is apparently my “I’m uncomfortable and want out of this situation” response since I did this once on the street in Korea when a couple of men wouldn’t leave me alone.) My male friends who were also wearing shorts and t-shirts had also been handed cloths to wrap up in, so it wasn’t a gender thing, except maybe with my shirt. I don’t do well with heat and I’m sure I would’ve fainted in that many thick layers.
Tumblr media
So instead we wandered a little bit further towards the park which is a popular spot for the elderly to games of chess or mahjong. On our way I spotted a stand selling chendol, which I had seen everywhere as a flavor, including McDonald’s. I’d asked my friends what the flavor was and they’d been unable to explain it. So I grabbed a chair at the stall and ordered one. The worker asked me if I’d ever had it before and when I said no, he went through each of the ingredients and explained to me what it was, with such genuine love for the treat and care.
Tumblr media
Chendol is a shaved ice dessert. I’ve come to realize that no matter where you go in the world, or at least Asia, they have their own unique take on shaved ice that is a thousand times better than snow cones found in the States. Chendol includes green worm looking jellies which are made from rice flour and pandan, sweet red beans, palm sugar syrup and coconut milk. Some additions can included different fruits from jack fruit to durian (a very pungent fruit) and different types of jellies. Another thing to keep in mind is that while I had Chendol in Singapore  that its a popular dessert that can also be found throughout Southeast Asia in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and several other countries. (If you look up Chendol/Cendol online you can find several arguments on where it’s originally from and who holds claim to this sweet shaved ice dessert.) It was delicious, and a wonderful treat to cool off with. I was very happy to stop and have some and share it with my friends, one of whom had never had a chance to try it before.

Hi everyone,
I guess it’s never too late to wish you all a wonderful happy new year! Today, I’d love to take a moment to share my reflections on my best of 2018 travel. So, I am considering creating a series of posts in the upcoming weeks (YES! You read this. I am back to the grinds of writing and I am feeling super motivated) about sartorial-self editing and a follow up on continuing living my minimalist life.
The other day, a friend of mine who does not enjoy travel as much as I do recently asked me: ” What value does it bring to spend all your money in traveling so frequently?”
I paused for a brief moment and tried to recollect in my head all the countless unmeasurable benefits I gained from the experience of traveling. I’m thinking of adventures, freedom, and creating sweet memories with my favorite people. Mountains, road trips and singing cheesy songs in the car, big cities, beaches, lakes, wine country, night life, speak Spanish, fall in love… and so much more I mean where shall I begin…
Here are some advantages I can think of when it comes to why I value travelling as often as I can. To start with, there is an excitement and anticipation of planning a trip up front (read more about experientialism vs materialism post here). Looking forward to how we would imagine the journey. It gives room for creativity in deciding what activities to fill our days with.
Next, I learn to live more intentionally by pausing and being in the moment. I pay particular attention to small overlooked pleasures in life. I enjoy very much to be engaged with people in a genuine way by becoming a better active listener for instance when taking in to their stories. I experience more gratefulness. I like that my discovery mode is turned on (try new food, catch new sights, practice a new language sometimes, or embrace new cultures).
All in all, I find travelling to be important to me because it contributes to my self-improvement. All these reasons contribute towards my personal growth; my thoughts are influenced by a broader range of awareness of the world surrounding me, my habits are sometimes mimicking other’s cultural lifestyles, my learning is derived from my interactions with people and taking in their outlook on life, my beliefs are more grounded, and my thoughts are centered around creating a healthier and happier way of living. Let it be minimalism and zero waste lifestyle but these topics are worth detailing in separate posts.
Anza Borrego Desert/Julian, CA
After returning from my regular winter euro trip in the beginning of the year from Dresden and Paris, in February I went on a mini weekend road trip to Anza Borrego Desert. It’s only a two hour drive northeast of San Diego where I live and is located south east from Riverside and south of Palm Springs. The Anza Borrego Desert State Park isn’t too far from the Mount Jacinto Park where I hiked in the summer of 2017 (read here). It’s the largest park in California and has many wilderness areas as well as lots of hiking trails.
I picked the Palm Canyon trail where a minimum of climbing was involved (I love climbing!!!) and I was able to catch a sight at the primitive palm trees which are the tallest in California and are kept very wild and untrimmed. Down the oasis, I could hear from a far distance some buzzing sounds that resonated all around. As I was so curious to find out the origins of these croaks, I rushed down the river by climbing down the hiking trail in an off trail fashion (my adventurous side) to find some very cute tiny frogs under the rocks blending with the surroundings in the most perfect way.
All the climbing efforts were well worth! Then as the night quickly fell down, it’s how I got some very large and deep scars on my left forearm because I ran into a giant cactus on my way back up to the trail. Not very clever but I put the blame on my tomboy side! Later that evening on the way back to San Diego, a pit stop at Julian was required to have a taste of the well-known local apple pies and cider.
Los Angeles, CA
I drove to the city of angels and visited my friend Alexie (from UCLA) in the beginning of March as I needed to renew my passport at the French embassy. This was a two day trip but I really appreciated my time spent with her discussing various topics and you know just being women. Read more here where I talked about trying Tsukemen for the first time at Tsujita and a local’s brunch at Egg slut.
San Diego CRSSD FEST, CA
Processed with VSCO with b1 preset
This electronic, deep house, and techno festival is a traditional yearly thing I attend with my Persian buddies Arash and Massoud. Although I’ve tried to save a decent budget dedicated to music festivals for the year, I always seem to mess this up. But in any case, this is a sort of a mini Coachella and if you are in San Diego during March and September I recommend you guys to check it out because I like that it’s located by the waterfront and our dear Pacific Ocean.
Seoul/Busan, South Korea
In March, I was sent to South Korea for work (second time around and read first impression of the previous strip here). I stayed in Seoul and enjoyed this trip very much particularly as I didn’t end up having to do too much work at the customer site for once. But differently than last time, I decided to gather a team and explore South Korea away from the city center of Seoul. So we took the train to visit Busan.
Busan is a very large port city and is well known for its beaches, mountains, and temples. I enjoyed hanging out at the Haeundae beach with the young crowded locals and shot some fireworks. Later that night, the team composed of the new Dutch girlfriend Anne and another colleague, Robin who is Irish, went on bar hoping and met a friendly group of enthusiastic high energy good vibe young Koreans. We befriended right away with songs like Gangnam style and other classics.
We were then invited to a Karaoke bar and sung our heart out til about 8 am the following day. We actually made a reservation at a hostel nearby but needless to mention how pissed off the receptionist was as we had a very very very late check in that dragged her out of the bed. I know this was messed up but our new Korean friends helped us get to stay in to rest for the remaining duration of 2 hours, which was barely enough sleep but we needed to catch the train back to Seoul and I had to fly back afterwards.
The best part of this trip I think came from the idea that propelled me to go to Busan in the first place. The ultra fresh seafood and sashimi. I watched a documentary online where I saw a man trying to experience the “live” sashimi fish in Busan and choked on it. He became so red and almost died. I thought the idea of trying something so “fresh” would have made a fun challenge so I set my mind to experience it too at the Jagalchi Market, the world famous market for fresh fish and seafood. Robin and I got to try it but I barely survived. Personally though I wouldn’t do it again haha.
Another crazy experience was found at this local BBQ restaurant where I had fresh grilled eel for the first time ever. It goes without saying how painful that was visually and the taste was stringent. Have you ever eaten a whole eel? I’m not speaking of the little piece of eel that is place with a generous amount of Teriyaki sauce on the sushi but the whole fish. It’s so bony and crunchy towards the tail. I also would detail the part where the fish are taken from the aquarium then processed in front of your attentive eyes.
The cook knock the head of the eel using the back of the knife then begins to skin off the fish by removing the spinal column. The sound was draconian. The fish is then cut up into chunks. Later the pieces are laid on the plate ready to be grilled but the heads also come together. The visual still hurts me by just typing these lines but please skip this section if you are too sensitive sorry. As the brains were trying to pump blood through, and while Robin was devouring the body from the grill (personally I couldn’t do it), the mouth of the fish was left wide opened as a reaction to the loss of oxygen. I still remember vividly the horrified faces of the fish. In any case, this experience was quite unique but I’m still glad I got to see how life was like in Busan with the locals.
Saratoga/NYC, NY and Montreal, Canada
After my trip to South Korea, I was supposed to take some time off to stop by Japan to hang out with a friend I met during CRSSD fest but to my disappointment I had to fly straight away to New York for work again. This trip was rather unique because it’s where I met my crush there (blushing). But nothing surprising it’s just a crush and nothing more and you’ll read more about this Dutchie later 😉 Besides, work was very interesting there and the weather was ruthlessly cold with above the knee level of snow. Time working there was passing by so quickly as my best friend Mark (we work together) was also on site for work and we got to hang out a bunch.
In Albany we had Tanpopo Jakarta ramen. If you are curious about ramen, head over to my blog on ramen critic around the globe @ramencraycray. We ate at Vintage House and had interesting fried oyster sandwiches at Albany Ale & Oyster. We also hung out quite a bit in Saratoga Springs where we visited the Historic Congress Park to sip on the spring water. Had drinks at this hispter jazz playing live music at Morrissey’s and dined at the Wine Bar.
During this trip, I took the opportunity to drive to cross the border and visit Montreal. I had to make a pit stop at this gentleman’s house located in the beautiful town of Saratoga Springs. I met this older writer named Paul on the plane (yes for many of you who know me, I meet a bunch of folks on the plane and it’s not hard trust me!). We discuss many topics among writing and blogging as well as feminism and life in Paris compared with New York. We promised to give each other feedback from his book titled “Learning the Learner” while he reads my blog, this one.
He kindly invited me over to his house for breakfast along with a tour at the Spring Street Gallery which was a converted church located in front of his house. I had an immense pleasure in meeting his amazing awe inspiring wife Barbara (@blglaser5150). She is the woman I aspire to become when I get more mature. She has accomplished so much to become financially independent, in raising her Korean adopted daughter and her work in Natural State Park conservation, and now is a philanthropist. I was more than glad to have the chance to meet people like them and to share our stories. I felt so empower to continue my pursuit in advancing technology and to become as independent as she is someday. I also wish to further contribute to society just how she does it.
Ok so, now let’s talk about Montreal shall we? The road was very beautiful on my way there all covered in snow and I can easily glimpse at the mountain ranges during my three hour long drive. I stayed at Le Saint Sulpice hotel that was simply scrumptious located in Old Town. As I stepped out into town, I was clearly experiencing a wardrobe malfunction; I wore my long white Korean coat with a pair of jeans, a jumper, a beanie, scarf, and a pair of leather gloves. Evidently I froze to death within 15 minutes of walk in the blazing -15C.
So I rushed to the nearest neighborhood bar at the pub le Saint-Elisabeth. I met a new friend at the bar named Francois who was kind to show me locals spots around the well-known avenue du Mont Royal and had delicious poutine. The next day, I met up with my cousin who I haven’t seen in about 20 years (long time!!!) to catch up. We walked through the underground pass to go to the mall just like how the Quebecois shop to avoid peaking your nose out into the cold. She offered me some of the best ice wines ever. I feel very grateful!
On my last weekend there, I was meeting up with an old friend and together drove to NYC passing through the Lincoln tunnel. That was a hell of a lot of fun with lots of dancing, some ramen, and a copious amount of drinks and sightseeing. Make sure to read more about this city here.
West Coast Road Trip (Joshua Tree Park, CA/LA, CA/Big Sur, CA/Big Basin Redwood Park, CA/SF, CA/Newport, OR/Seattle, WA/Mt Adams, WA/Corvallis, OR)
In May, our birthday month, my sister (@dithy_f) from Paris and I got into my white Golf and drove along the USA West Coast. One of the best road trips ever yet! Read more here for part 1. Part 2 filled with more stories should be coming around soon so stay tune. In this case, I’ll skip here to the next trip below…
San Elijo Beach, CA
One of the best perks I enjoy about living in San Diego is that the county is so vast in its surface area that driving 30 to 40 minutes along the coast from where I live seems like a travel destination even though it’s technically still San Diego. We were camping there together with this really awesome girl Jenny (@nurse_jenny) (I met at a party and she had all the gut to just ask for my number and befriended instantly) and my friend Stephen (from work) who was set to take a year off to travel the world. I had an amazing weekend there grilling sausages and I even had some fun creating a beach bum beauty tutorial that can be found on my Instagram stories.
Ensenada/Tijuana, Mexico
I love spontaneous impromptu trips like this in the summer. Mexican friend Guerardo invited me over to tag along on his weekend getaway trip to Mexico. Singing along Felices Los 4 and Dura omg! We took the Ruta del vino to visit and wine taste at L.A. Cetto. We brunched at Bodegas del Valle, a secret local spot. We later that night played dominos then poker getting drunk on some tequila Reposado. The next day, we were beach ready to get some tan at Playa Hermosa in Explanadas. Afterwards, we had some of the best margheritas at Bar Andaluz and the best tacos ever are found at the world renown Anthony Bourdain approved Sabina Restaurante. Later, on our way back to the US, we had to stop by Tijuana where we got a roof top drink at Cine Tonala and played games.
Tel Aviv, Israel
During the summer, I traveled to Tel Aviv for the first time to visit my friend Tom. I know many of you already know how I met Tom and how I ended up in Dresden in the winter of 2017 but just for the sake of sharing with everyone. On my way to Amsterdam from Minnesota, I think that was in the summer of 2017 I happen to sit next to this blue eye guy with a quirky smile on this face. I think he started the conversation with an ice breaker question. So tips to you guys, if you are happen to sit next to a stranger on the plane and would like to make new friends, don’t put your headphones on, smile, and ask whether your flight neighbor is heading back home or visiting. This ice breaker question always works for me 🙂 So as we talked and laughed throughout our 8 hour long trip. We exchanged our contact information but before that he managed to convince me to meet again either in Tel Aviv and/or Dresden for the winter holidays.
And in truth eventually, I ended up meeting him in both cities haha. I flew to Dresden in December of 2017 from Paris because (this is a true story haha) my sister was too busy to host me during the weekday and (sadly) she is also a type A woman so she made it clear that I was on my own. Then I simply phoned Tom to check his whereabouts then booked a ticket at the airport from CDG, took the metro to Orly then flew to Dresden straight away. I actually don’t recommend anyone to fly that much in a day (4 back to back flights) but I’m still glad I made it out there. I stayed at Tom’s friend’s Matthias (a German cutie), and we got to visit the beautiful city (old and new neighborhood), did some thrift shopping as I was travelling without proper winter gears (got as scarf and beanie), and even attended an opera. The museums there were very impressive and boy I love the Christmas market to grab some warm German sweet bread, some wurst, and a sip of the delicious gluhwein (even gluhbier).
Well, I’m digressing now sorry so back to Tel Aviv! Tom and I stayed at another of Tom’s friend’s apartment nearby the beach in Yaffa area. Hillel is such a smart and funny guy. He’s very thoughtful too! I recall how before I’d get up in the morning, a warm freshly baked pastry was awaiting for me on the kitchen counter. He was temporarily being a dog daddy to Indie so I lucked out in meeting them because I had so much fun hanging out with these mischief later in the Old City. This vibrant place is full of craft shops and art galleries, and stalls selling antiques and jewelry at the lively Jaffa Flea Market.
There are some Ottoman influences such as the Clock Tower. We walked around and spotted an outdoor venue filled with folks dancing on Arab music after crossing the Wishing Bridge. The area is also popular for its hip wine bars, creative Mediterranean dining and seafood restaurants near Jaffa Port. There is such a wide mix of culture and we got together for drinks at the Shaffa bar with Stefania, her bf and friend. Well, how I met Stefania was also on a plane ride from JFK to Tel Aviv haha. We sat next to each and became friends instantly. And so we just had to meet up in town!
Then Hillel wanted to take us to his favorite secret spot that offers a unique view over the Jaffa port but on the opposite side. Recall when I called Hillel and Indie the little pair of mischief well, to get to that safely guarded spot required illegal climbing over a fence then a wall hmmm the challenge came from having our little four legged Indie with us but we still proceeded with climbing with the adventurous dog friend. It was so worth it as we could catch a glimpse in the quiet night and only hearing the waves crashing on the rocks and just taking in the beautiful sights and being in the moment.
I have a few tips on Tel Aviv for you guys if you are interested, drop a comment below. I personally really enjoy going to the outdoor markets like the Carmel market where Tom and I met up with another of Tom’s friend named Roy. He had bought some delicious cheese and we improvised a French picnic with a bottle of red (of course!) and laid around in the neighborhood park, while dog petting.
I only stayed 4 days in Tel Aviv and wished to road trip to Jerusalem but due to the unbearable heat wave, I’ll postpone this trip to another time. So next on my way to Amsterdam, I had a quick overlay in Rome. Unfortunately I couldn’t hang out with my dear friend Rita but had (yes another) interesting encounter on the plane. An older Italian gentleman who is a professor in Chemistry and avid alternative renewable energy especially in clean gas was my neighbor. He had mistaken me as a model haha. But to his disappointment I had to break it to him that I was just an engineer.
We talked for a long while about renewable energy and the new tech trends. Once we landed in Fuimicino, he kindly offer to continue our conversations over at the lounge. I personally love to converse with passionate folks. Side note by the way, a handful of people either border patrol agents or people I bumped into during my flights tend to believe I’m some model. Can it be because of my leather jacket, my casual effortless airport style or is it? Regardless, I’m utterly flattered but (shrugging) would love to know why…
Amsterdam/Eindhoven/Heusden, The Netherlands
I arrived in Amsterdam to meet up with Silvana (@saisonlune) the birthday girl. She’s taken me to the north of Amsterdam so we took the ferry where we can sight the beautiful A’dam Toren from Centraal Station. We had a snack at FC Hyena where it has movie theater and great food. The décor is industrial but with lots of quirky colors. Afterwards, we headed next door to the Hotel de Goudfazant. This place used to be a car garage so don’t be surprised if you are dining next to cars inside the space.
The following day, I also got to meet Jessica from Daarboven and stroll around Amsterdam. We had a pit stopped at my fav Scandinavian shop Filippa K where I got a couple of essential garments (a nice cropped wool jacket and a pair of simple blue denim, read here).
We sipped on some fancy drinks at the Hoxtel lounge, grabbed ramen at Fou Fow Ramen then devour some explosive chocolate at the Michelin starred Duchess .
In Eindhoven, I always enjoy staying at my bestie Joffrey. I also took some time to say hi to Adri from Chanel. She created a new look for me and left with many goodies she gathered for me. In the afternoon, Jo organized a mini road trip to Heusden for a getaway. Walking around there was very relaxing to see the lashing green surrounding and the famous windmills. In the village we grabbed some red and some bread (I love Dutch breads). Later in the evening Jo and I met up with Yohann (our betstie) to grab an apero at his house.
Then we all met up with the other guys for Lepeltje Lepeltje, a food fest in Eindhoven with live music and yummy ice creams. Later than night we all hung out at our regular Irish pub Oshea’s where a few more people are set to come by. One person was the German cutie I was seeing on the date during lunch time at one of my fav brunch spot called Krok Madame. The other person was my Dutch crush and well needless to mention how melodramatic this all resulted and of course I’ve never intended anything as such to take place.
Chinon/Vendée Road Trip, France
It’s still summer and I was on my way to Paris now to get with my sister then we picked up my mom to go onto our yearly road trip. We stopped by the wine country region as always. I’ve notice my friends recently called me “Wine Privileged” and I am beginning to be more grateful from my upbringing and the fact that my parents’ house is located in one of the most amazing wine country region of France. And so we are in Chinon and visiting the Cave Monplaisirs.
The lady owner was formidable in presenting the wine selection with exquisite details of the terrain, the grapes provenance and mixes. This is how I get wine educated by going on a variety of wine tasting and having great conversations. She also kindly offered us an extra bottle (we had to keep it quiet on the gift haha) simply because she enjoyed sharing a great conversation too! We set up our picnic by the Loire river with great sight, a fresh summer breeze, and amazing wine paring (Les Picasses from 2016).
My sister and I rented a beautiful beach house in the Vendée region with a big pool by Saint-Jean-de-Mont beach. We had a lovely time with my mom swimming , BBQ, and just chilling in town. We did a bit of sightseeing but the best experience was going to the oysters’ market casually located in various parts of the roads there called le Délit. I believe to have found the best tasting oysters in my entire life! I stoke a conversation with the bar owner sharing with him my USA stories and then he pointed out that an LA designer was painting the walls of the place. Have a look as it’s pretty quirky. Another good time (yes it’s again about food) was going to Noirmoutier to bunch at Michelin starred or recommended restaurants like L’ilot Bleu. Next stop was a flower park (my mom is a lotus enthusiast) called the Parc Floral de la court d’Aron where we spent a day there having a little French picnic.
Paris, France
This city is always crazy and has the most fun parties. I hung out with the Parisian crew (a bunch of finance folks who prize on expensive champagne bottles. Yeah I know it’s just another life style) and caught up with Taler (@nomadicfille). We had ramen again but this time at Hokkaido.
The following day we went to the street food fest in Place République. Then, we headed towards the roof top at the Art et Métiers hotel. Needless to mention, there was a gorgeous view over the city of Light and the flashing Eiffel Tower but what caught my attention was this cutie sitting right next to me from another group of Parisians. We had a great conversation but I must be so naïve in too many ways, I didn’t realize he was a catch haha. But it’s all good we are friends on Instagram, does that count?
Los Angeles, CA
In September after getting back to San Diego, the following weekend I got on the road towards Vegas, the sin city. But I thought I’d stop by and say hi to my friend Alexie (if you don’t remember her, I had a post on LA here). We caught up over dinner, girls talk then the following day brunched at our favorite place in Abbott Kinney called Gjelina. A bit of window shopping but then it was time for me to get back on the road already.
Vegas/Valley of Fire Road trip, NV
Hanging out with Jo and catching up with his dad I haven’t seen in a couple of years was fun. In short, Fermont experience, losing money gambling, getting fancy drinks at the casino, and hiking in the heat of the Valley of Fire where we almost passed out. I recommend everyone who is passing by Vegas to go check out this out of the ordinary red-bricked landscape. It’s truly breath taking how arid the climate is but how the rock formations come together is pretty amazing.
Big Bear, CA
This road tripping to camping with Arash was in late September so it was indeed freezing cold. We were out of Vodka to keep us warm so in the process I lost my toes overnight for about 8 hours then recovered. The Castle Rock trail hike by Big Bear Lake was pretty intensive in climbing but the view we could catch on top was all worth it with a breathtaking forest views, rock structures, and a distant lake.
Lake Tahoe, CA
Next road trip was made during the thanksgiving holidays. It was very adventurous on the long drive there from San Diego to Lake Tahoe especially in the freezing night. Just had to pick up Massoud along the way in Orange County. As we approached the mountain ranges, we found out too tardily that the snow chains were undersized so we decided to simply deflate the tires in order to create more traction. (3 engineers getting together that’s how things go often!).
London, England
I haven’t been back since a couple of years ago so I was glad to stop by London in December and catching up with my dear Jackie (@passyjacqueline). What I retained the most from being there was experiencing Tinder dating together haha. I recall vividly on one of the bus rides in London City where Jackie and I were eye on out phones swiping left and occasionally right on the app then suddenly we heard 3 older gentlemen exclaiming right behind us “But you keep on swiping left!” hahaha I’ll omit the Brit accent but I couldn’t help than to crack up. It’s an observation that it seems everyone young and old men and women everywhere across the globe is searching for love though this dating tool.
I really enjoyed the low key local hangout (will do a map later if you are interested for I have some tips!) and art exhibits. We went to Blain Southern and checked out the “Between the lines” of Chiharu Shiota and the drawings of Jonas Burget. Indeed, I’d rather avoid doing tourist traps cos I just wanted to create memories being with my dear friend in the most humbling way. Some of the cool places I went to are Tonkotsu ramen, Oslo Hackney bar and club, Blighty Tottenham for brunch, Pop Brixton for the hispter hang out and drinks food hall style, Ace hotel in Shoreditch for a fancy drink at the lounge. For a nice walk I went to Borough market (my fav) and had tapas at Tapas Brindisa. Roof tops I went to Sushi Samba which offers a great view of the Gherkin. Lastly, Jaaguarshoes Collective is a local hang out for casual drinks.
Amsterdam/Eindhoven/The Hague, The Netherlands
Going to Holland is always about catching up with everyone. I also flew from London to Amsterdam as cheap as 37 euro that’s why I love travelling within Europe because of the ease of transport. I’m typically staying at Joffrey’s house in Eindhoven. We always cozy up on his velvet couch in the late evening watching our fav old French show Kaamelott. In the evening I had dinner with my old friend Alain who is half Dutch and half French. We checked out the new hot spot called Kazerne which had a lovely exhibit.
This time I was in Amsterdam meeting up with Jessica. We always have planned for me to go visit the museum where she works at but every time I’m arriving by train so late in the afternoon that I keep missing out. Bummer! However, we grabbed a local Thai food where there was probably 5 tables. It was so tiny but the food was good. We then intended to go for a quick shop to Filippa K (one of my fav shops) but it had already closed by 7 pm.
Next, we just continued strolling around what I find to be the romantic Amsterdam with the light exhibits on the canals. We grabbed some drinks at the Hoxton lounge (one of my fav places to go chill in Amsterdam), and then she insisted on grabbing another drink at a club I’ve never been to, which was ChinChin. There was a karaoke bar, restaurant, and club all in one place. I like catching the train back with her and just keep on conversing about life, our careers, blogging, shopping, personal style, and recently about our love life, dating, and relationships. Needless to mention how glad I am to have getting to know her.
The following day I caught an early train ride from Eindhoven to The Hague to grab brunch with the crew made of Kimberley, Silvana, and finally got to meet Sebastian. We chatted and laughed about everything at the local brunch names Bartine. It was good to see them all. Then afterwards, I had the honor to stroll around the Hague with Sebastian as my personal tour guide. He was showing me the old government buildings, describing the architectural styles, and the history behind them.
And it was already time to head back to Eindhoven to meet up for dinner with other friends. So the lovely Anne showed up with Joffrey. Unfortunately, my friend from work Sander (a Belge guy) and his wife couldn’t stay late into the evening as they have a little toddler to attend to so I only got to see them very briefly. The next day which was Saturday, Jo and I packed our bags, got into the car and set our GPS direction towards Paris to meet up with my sister for a late brunch.
Paris, France
Ahhh Paris is always my fav place in the world! Always crazy and fun at the same time with my lovely sis Britney and the Parisian crew. You probably may have noticed but I also avidly avoid tourristy areas there. I always prefer our local hang outs or discover new hot spots that most tourists are unaware of. We hung out in the newly trend food hall style La Félicita, had a bite and a few drinks then danced our night away.
We also celebrated New Year’s eve in our own terms. No rules nor tips to follow. We simply created our own way of having a great time. No overpriced club tickets bought online, no house party on our agenda. Remember that the best plan is no plan after all. We just walked up towards the Champs-Elysee then grabbed food and drinks at the Beer Station.
The area had been blocked off for the fire work show around the arc de Triomphe but we were located right at the edge of the landmark. Stayed warm, had food and cheering on red wine then champagne, watching the fireworks all in safety and warmth instead of mingling with the crowds on the Champs-Elysee avenue where it was counted that over 150,000 people attended the event. We took the party further towards Pigalle area at the Carmen club where we met the cutie barman Romeo who had a generous amount of dating advice to give away haha.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get much free time at hand to see the group of Paris girls (sorry! Next time for sure!) but got to do a quicky apero at Taler’s house. I got to meet her boyfriend, her cousin from the US, and her other friends. My sister later showed up too!
Tours, France
This was a truly special trip into the wine country of Loire Valley. Typically every time I visit my parents’ house in the Center of France, we’d stop by the neighboring area to go wine tasting and coming back home with boxes of a variety of wines. We are also very intimate with the wine makers of the region so it’s always a pleasure to say hi. But this time, I’d convinced my sister and our friend Aja to come along with me to visit the Tours region and meet up with Antoine at the Domaine de Cray.
It was a lovely wine tour into the sparkling white wine production, the famous Cremant de Loire, where he was showing us the art of riddling wine a la méthode Champenoise. He was showing up the assembly line with some level of automation for the first fermentation to take place where the natural sugar from the grapes are converted into alcohol and letting the carbon dioxide escape from the bottle and makes the base wine or the cuvée. It’s not usually very tasty as it is very acidic. Antoine showed us where these cuvée were stored in those large chambers and even had a sip of it together with the tuxedo cat who serves as great company. I recommend anyone to stop by this winery!
If you made it to read this line, well thanks for reading my stories. Let me know if you enjoy these narratives as much as I do or rather want tips for travel but either way don’t hesitate to drop a comment and I’ll look forward to your inputs.
Best of 2018 Travel Hi everyone, I guess it's never too late to wish you all a wonderful happy new year!

Photo not mine, found it on Google.
Author: @julietsoddeye AU: CEO!Baekhyun Genre: Angst | Smut | Romance Pairing: Baekhyun x Lee Soojin (You/OC) [Written as if the reader is the OC] Trigger Warning: Smut on future chapters. Mentions of car accident. Mentions of being blind. Baekhyun being an a-hole. Word Count: 3,511
Plot: After 10 years of exile to another country, you are finally back home and you were surprised to find out that you are engaged to the son of your father’s long-time friend and business partner.
On this Chapter:
“You’re not supposed to be here, get out!”
Baekhyun locks the door of the fitting room and slid his way in front of you like a swift animal attacking their prey.
“Why are you locking the door?”
“I’ve been waiting for so long!”
“It’s only been a few minutes, Baekhyun. Please get out.”
“Is this the dress you want?”
He ignores what you said and took the dress from your hands. He examines and puts it in front of you like you were a paper doll.
Tumblr media
“Good day and welcome Mr. Byun, Ms. Lee...”
The store manager greeted the moment you and Baekhyun enter the big brand store that you recognized owned by the Byun Group of Companies. You’re not surprised anymore that people who work for them know you already. It’s probably a protocol for them to know everything about their boss. From their favorite colors down to who they are fucking. Well maybe not to that extent, but it’s plausible.
You look around the fancy but empty boutique and they carry not just formal wears for women, but also wedding dresses from different local and international brands.
“We’ve already arranged a number of dresses of the colors and size your assistant asked us about and they are ready for Ms. Lee to try on inside the dressing room.”
“Great.”
Baekhyun beams.
“This way, please…”
The woman said as she points at a heavily curtained area of the store with her palms up. You smiled slightly and both you and Baekhyun followed her steps.
“I’m sorry Mr. Byun, but it’s store policy that Men are not allowed inside the dressing room. If you could just wait here in the lounge area, we will serve you any drinks of your request. I will personally assist Ms. Lee in trying out the dresses.”
“Can I do this on my own instead? I’ll call you when I need a hand.
You said as you got in the dressing room.
“Are you sure, Ms. Lee?”
She asks you, her facial expression hints that she doesn’t want you to do it alone.
“Yes.”
You gave her an assuring smile.
“To be honest with you Ms. Lee, you’re the first customer here who doesn’t want to be dressed. Are you really sure?”
She asks again, her face really desperate as if her job is on the line, it probably is but you’re uncomfortable changing in front of a complete stranger, other than people you’re close with.
“Really? Don’t they have hands of their own to use?”
The store manager kind of giggled but straightened her self just as quick as her little laugh.
“I will leave you alone then, Ms. Lee. Please call for me if you need anything, there is a buzzer over there that’s connected to my little device over here.”
She pointed at a button on the wall near the door and pulled out a small pager-looking thing from the pocket of her corporate jacket to show you.
“Thank you… Uhm… What’s your name?”
“Eunbi. Kang Eunbi.”
She said with the nicest smile you’ve ever seen.
“Thank you, Kang Eunbi-ssi.”
She finally left and you look at the selection of dresses they picked out for you to try. You glance at your bandaged arm and back to the 10 or more clothes hanging on a rolling rack. Only two have long sleeves and one of them is kind of in a thicker side fabric. It’s summer and you didn’t want to die of heatstroke so you take the one with the sheer lace sleeves.
You were mesmerized by the simplicity of it. It was a nude that’s a shade deeper than your skin color with a sweetheart neckline outside of a sheer lace lining that’s connected to the sleeves. There are multiple Swarovski crystal beads scattered elegantly around the chest and sleeves. The floor-length dress flows in the air like a breeze when you sway it around. It’s lightweight and it will be just magnificent to dance to.
It’s the perfect dress that will cover your arms as you’re not sure if the tiny wounds will completely heal by Saturday next week. And definitely a perfect color for a wedding. It’s not loud but the sparkle of the Swarovski is just enough to make you shine a little. You looked in the mirror, the garment in front of you as you admire the overall look of it. You cannot wait to actually try it on. When you were about to hang the dress back on the rack so you can remove the summer dress you’re wearing, the door of the changing room suddenly fly open, revealing a snappy-looking Baekhyun.
“What is taking you so long?”
“Shit! You scared me!”
You cursed as you drop the dress of your choice on the floor. You picked it up and gave Baekhyun an annoyed look.
“This is perfect. Great choice, you’re matching the theme of the wedding and my suit.”
Baekhyun hangs the dress on his shoulder and grabs both your shoulders and twirls you around so your back is facing him. He started pulling the thin straps of your teal sundress down both your shoulders and you shook him away a little bit to stop him as you block your arms against your chest protectively.
“What the hell are you doing Baekhyun?!?!?!”
“I’m undressing you.”
He said in a matter-of-fact tone and turn you around once again and started to tug down the zipper of your dress. Before you can really stop him, Baekhyun swiftly tugs your dress down and it pools beneath your feet. Leaving you with only your mismatched underwear. With your arms still holding up against your chest, Baekhyun spins you back face to face with him. His eyes trained on your own, his cheeks slightly blushed.
“Adorable.”
He whispers and his warm breath blew softly on your face, making you want to close your eyes and enjoy the natural sweetness of him. But you fight hard not to give in to your undisclosed desires. You shouldn’t feel this way towards Baekhyun, you’re still not sure if he’s an enemy or an ally.
“Why did you undress me just now?”
“We’re engaged, why does it matter?”
“Are you forgetting that we—”
Baekhyun stopped you mid-sentence when he gives your lips a quick peck and a playful smile danced along his lips when your eyes grew the size of a big button and mouth slightly hanging open with his unexpected attack.
“Don’t ruin the mood, okay.”
“Baekhyun, I—”
“Just wear the damn dress already, Soojin-ah, so I can see you in it.”
Baekhyun pushes the dress to your hand and quickly left you in the middle of the big room to sit on a white and fuzzy loveseat underneath an even fuzzier white fur rug. The way he lazily sat, stretched and rubs his thighs made your skin tingle faintly.
You shook your head to wake yourself from your weird thoughts and the cold air from the air conditioner made you shiver. You urgently remove the dress from the hanger so you can wear it remembering again that you’re just in your underwear.
The dress fits you perfectly, it would look better if you can actually close the zipper behind you, but you obviously can’t reach it.
“Need help?”
Baekhyun offers, with a hint of jest on the way he said it.
“No!”
You protested and tried hard to zip yourself up again, but to no avail. Baekhyun makes his way to you and helped you pull the stupid zipper up anyway. His long and thin lithe finger trail along the skin of your spine as he zips you up, making your stomach to create little critters that make you want to vomit love.
“T—Thanks…”
You silently curse yourself because of your shaky voice. Why are you so nervous anyway, it’s not like you’re in love with him, right? Right?
“You’re welcome. Look at you, you’re so beautiful.”
Baekhyun was looking at your entirety in the mirror in front of you. You can see the genuineness of his word from his eyes. What is he on again this time? What kind of illegal drugs is he taking? What kind of weed is he smoking that he’s not sharing?
“Baekhyun, are you on drugs?”
You suddenly ask.
“What?”
“Are you on drugs?”
You repeated your question.
“No. I’m healthy. My last check-up was two weeks ago. I’m not sick so I’m not taking any medications right now, why?”
Oh wow, he’s so… Pure. And borderline dense with your sarcasm.
“Nevermind, Baekhyun. Forget that I even ask you that.”
You shake your head slightly in disbelief.
“Wait did you actually mean, like, illegal drugs? WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I TAKE DRUGS?”
Baekhyun face sours up and gasps as he put his right palm against the chest of his heart dramatically, he’s legitimately hurt by the realization of your question.
“It’s just… You’re— You’re confusing me. One day you’re an asshole and then the next you’re— you’re playful or sweet and caring and you’re driving me absolutely insane, Byun Baekhyun. I don’t really know what to think of you.”
Baekhyun clears his throat and his visage changes quickly after your little speech.
“What do you want from me then?”
Baekhyun asks seriously.
“I just want that truth, Baekhyun. Why did you agree with this… Arranged Marriage? What are you gaining here? You’re the son of the richest man in South Korea, what more can you want from this, from me?
The happy Baekhyun is back in an instant.
“Now is not the right time for this Soojin-ah okay? Can we just enjoy this for now, please?”
Is he bipolar? You have to ask Yanmei as she’s kind of an expert in this field.
“Okay.”
You silently agreed and Baekhyun flashes you another sunny smile from his lips.
“Change back to your dress, we’re done here. I’ll see you outside.”
~~~
“Wait, you’re really taking me as a date to your cousin’s wedding?”
Yanmei squeaks out in excitement as Chanyeol and Hisako follow her and Jongdae, the two lovebirds (more like fuck buddies), as they walk hand in hand along the fancy and upscale shops of Rodeo Street. Hisako crosses her arms even more against her chest and puffs out an exasperating sigh with annoyance. She cannot believe that her best friends, Yanmei and Soojin are slowly falling for the enemies. Soojin is not as obvious as Yanmei, but she can tell she’s slowly being charmed by Baekhyun. Ugh, such feeble women!
“Of course, who else will I take? You’re the perfect date for me!”
Jongdae replies with the same invisible heart eyes, just as much as Yanmei shows. ‘Oh God,’ Hisako thought.
“Aiyo wei!”
Yanmei tightens her grip on Jongdae’s arm and Jongdae bit his lower lip with too much adoration for the girl beside him. Hisako glances at Chanyeol on her left and he’s scrolling through his phone as he walks. Ugh, hope you don’t trip, she thinks to herself again.
“Oh my gosh is that you, Jongdae?”
A shrill from a girl made the four of them stop on their track. Hisako looks up and saw 2 women with multiple shopping bags from different brands on their arms. One girl glared judgingly at Yanmei before returning her gaze at Jongdae now with a fake smile.
“You said you would call me back, why didn’t you call me back?”
“Oh…”
Yanmei was taken aback a little bit and hesitantly let go of Jongdae, but he stopped her and held her waist tighter.
“I’m sorry, I must’ve forgotten.”
Jongdae confidently laughs as he flashes the girl with a suave smile.
“Hi, Chanyeol.”
The other girl waved shyly at Chanyeol and he just nods his head once and continues scrolling on his phone.
“Well, I heard it’s Minseok Oppa’s wedding next weekend, do you have a date already? You can take me if you want.”
She positively beams as if Jongdae will drop everything for her.
“I’m sorry… What’s your name again?”
“Jinah!”
The girl whines slightly.
“I’m sorry, Jinah! But I already have a date. My girlfriend, Mei-mei!”
Jongdae pulls Yanmei by her waist as if to wake her up from drifting off.
“G—GIRLFRIEND?!?!?! Since when did you have girlfriends?”
Both Jinah and her friend gasps in shock.
“Uhhh… Since 3 weeks ago! Isn’t that right, baby?”
Jongdae nudges Yanmei.
“Oh… Uh… Y—yeah. Three weeks ago, in The Bahamas…”
Yanmei trails off.
“Hey, we were about to go dress shopping. It was nice meeting you again… uh…”
“JINAH!!! IT’S JINAH!!!”
The hysterical girl keeps shouting as the four of you started walking away again.
“Yo, you completely humiliated that girl.”
Chanyeol snorts as he pockets his phone.
“To be honest I don’t even remember where I met her.”
Jongdae shrugs.
“That was mean, Jongdae!”
Yanmei hits Jongdae in the chest lightly.
“Well, she was mean first. She totally saw that we’re together, you weren’t a ghost.”
“Still, that was mean. I could’ve handled it, you know. Woman to woman. I’m not petty though, I know your history.”
Yanmei sticks out her tongue playfully at Jongdae and he smiles sweetly down at her.
“Oh gosh! Enough with this, can we just go already?”
Hisako interrupts when Yanmei and Jongdae were about to display their affection publicly again.
“Oh my God, Hisako you sad granny!”
Yanmei rolls her eyes at her best friend and tugs on Jongdae’s hand to the direction of a boutique that sells formal dresses. Chanyeol chuckles loudly at Hisako when she was left with her jaws on the ground, with Yanmei’s words right in front of the boys.
“What’s so funny?”
Hisako recovers and glares at Chanyeol bitterly.
“Nothing, nothing. Let’s just go, Hisa.”
Chanyeol offers his hand for Hisako to take, but she was now in a foul mood so she just hit his hand with her palm and left Chanyeol standing alone. Chanyeol shrugs his shoulders and catches up to Hisako with a smile on his face. Finally some funny words from Yanmei again, this is Chanyeol favorite when the two best friends bicker.
~~~
The two pairs ended up going inside the boutique of the same store that you and Baekhyun were in. Yanmei opens up the door just as Baekhyun was swiping his black card to pay for your dress.
“Sooj!!!”
Yanmei shrieks and immediately lets go of Jongdae to run up to you.
“What are you doing here?”
You shriek too, along with Yanmei as you two were hugging as if you haven’t seen each other for 10 years already when it’s only been less than an hour.
“Jongdae is taking me to the wedding, so I came here to look for a dress I could buy.”
You both pull away from each other and Yanmei gleams when Jongdae suddenly encircled his arms around her waist.
“She’s my date!”
Jongdae happily announces again to you.
“Waaah that’s great!!! What about Hisa? Who’s taking her?”
“We can be Ménage à trois.”
Jongdae shrugs.
“Uh... No thanks.”
Hisako suddenly enters the shop with Chanyeol tailing her every move. She went around the shop on a different area, to be away from Yanmei.
“What happened?”
“She’s on her period again!”
The exasperated tone of Yanmei’s voice indicates that the two probably bickered again. Oh well, nothing new.
“Why is Chanyeol following her around?”
You ask curiously.
“I don’t know. He looks like a puppy anyway and she smells like ass with her nasty attitude, so I guess it’s just fitting.”
“Bitch, I heard that!”
You heard Hisako shouts out from 3 aisles down. Yanmei just rolls her eyes again and grab Jongdae’s hand and pull him to the nearest couch.
“You sit down and stay here while I look for a dress, okay?”
Jongdae subjects and nod his head with a submissive smile on his lips, exactly like a puppy too. Jongdae, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun were called the Beagles of their group because their personalities are exactly like Beagle puppies. They’re loud, playful and cute to say the least. Not that you think Baekhyun is cute… Well, he’s cute sometimes when he’s not being a total dick to you.
Baekhyun sat next to Jongdae as you were being pulled by Yanmei on the first aisle of cocktail dresses.
“Ahhh, I’m so excited, can you help me choose a dress?”
“What happened to only seducing him for information?”
You whisper to Yanmei and she suddenly flashes you a shy smile.
“Eyyy. He’s not so bad, Jongdae, look at him. He’s so adorable.”
“Are you… You know… Falling for him? Is he finally the first guy you will take seriously?”
Yanmei laughs nervously.
“I don’t know, Sooj. I’m just really excited about the wedding. I know I’m gonna blow up my bank account for a dress here, but I wanna live a little bit, you know. I stopped dating and sleeping around since we graduated college and I’ve been working my ass off so I can help my parents provide for my special needs sister.”
You gave her an assuring smile that you totally understand her situation.
“But they also told you that it’s okay if you don’t help.”
“Yeah, but I still do. They gave up a lot for me too. This is the least I can do for them.”
“Why don’t you take my offer then?”
You offered to give her ¾ of the amount she sends her parents so that she can finally save more money for that dream SPED school she wanted to build in her hometown in China. But she refused, saying she can still make ends meet.
“You know I’ve rejected you a lot of times already, Sooj.”
You dramatically hit your chest as if you were in pain.
“Yeah, and it hurts so much Mei-mei. Your repeated rejection is slowly killing my already black heart.”
Yanmei playfully slaps you on the butt but it made such a noise that Baekhyun and Jongdae actually heard. The two guys look up at you both and Jongdae’s face flushed gravely when he realizes what happened when you were rubbing your ass with the slight pain of Yanmei’s spank.
“Ooh, kinky! I think he likes it.”
Both you and Yanmei snicker silently.
Meanwhile, on the last aisle of the huge boutique, Hisako was pretending to look for dresses even though she won’t even go to the wedding.
“I guess I’ll be bored next weekend…”
Hisako sighs silently as she parades through the aisles and aisles of dresses that are completely more expensive than the whole outfit she’s currently wearing.
“You know, you can go to the wedding as my date…”
Hisako almost cursed out when she suddenly hears Chanyeol spoke out of nowhere.
“Oh my gosh, how long have you been there?”
Hisako clutches her left chest tightly from being surprised.
“I’ve been following you since we got here. Didn’t you know?”
“I—I thought I left you outside.”
“I’ve been following you all along, Hisa.”
Chanyeol beams with his creepily huge grin. It’s kinda cute but she won't admit it.
“Gosh, you scared me for a little bit there.”
“I’m sorry.”
Chanyeol apologizes.
“So, will you be my date for the wedding then?”
“You don’t have to pity me, Chanyeol. I can hang out with Mia next weekend.”
Chanyeol furrows his eyebrows.
“Mia will probably be in Baekkie and Sooj’s entourage.”
Hisako frowns and he’s probably right, she thinks.
“Well… I can go out alone then. Alone time sounds good.”
“But you don’t know Seoul, you might get lost.”
“Uhm there is a thing called ‘The Internet’ and I can use it, Chanyeol. Thanks for the offer though.
“Then I won’t come to Minseok Hyung’s wedding too. I’ll take you around Seoul.”
Chanyeol insists.
“What? That’s crazy. Isn’t he your friend since childhood?”
“Yeh, all nine of us.”
“Wait, there’s nine of you?”
“Yeah!”
“You can’t not go to your Hyung’s wedding, Chanyeol.”
“Well, then you should be my date!”
Hisako sighs in defeat. But nods her head once and Chanyeol grins widely again. Why was he doing this, she wonders but the thought of being left alone at that big and cold mansion made her agree to Chanyeol’s offer.

Birthday Ficlet Part #2
Alternately Titled: They’ll Tell The Story of Tonight
Tumblr media
a/n: hi hola hello! I’M BACK with another Marshall Birthday Fic which features some of the major events that had happened during the surprise party. I just really want to thank everyone who had took the time to join the RP and I hope I kinda do justice for what had happened XD Sorry that I didn’t really write about the T or D because lol, this fic would be even longer and I think I just might die from so much writing. ANYWAY, thank you so much for coming to the party! This fic has mentions of @ladyvenusvale, @eloiseduval, @clove-teasdale, @fleur-quinn, @brooks-schreave, @quinn-schreave, @mallory-schreave, @mistylane059, @jordan-maldez, @claraeclair @lady-poppy-verona and mini cameo by @nathaniel-schreave.  GUYS, THANK YOU SO MUCH, IT WAS FUN!!! Also, if I haven’t mentioned you yet, don’t worry!! There’s still Part #3- the last and final installment to Marshall’s Birthday Trilogy. Okay, I think I’m talking too much again OKAY BYEEE ENJOY THIS UNEDITED MESS <3 (4022 words)
Just as I was tucked into my favorite nook, having finished a video call from the Silver Bullets in South Korea (who had orchestrated a spectacular birthday greeting in the matching pajamas I had sent to them for Christmas), Venus pops into my room with a smile.
“Marshall darling,” she practically sings out and I look up from my phone to greet her. We didn’t get to really talk the whole day today
“Greetings and Salutations, Vee.” I reply back.
Vee steps inside with the door open with another grin- why do I feel like she had something up her sleeve? That was a loaded smile.
“So...you know how it's your birthday....I sort of threw you a party in my room with all the Selected so surprise! And I love you!” Venus quickly rambles gesturing to the door, and my jaw practically drops at her words.
“Wait… a party?!” I stand from my chair, walking towards Venus. I couldn’t believe that Venus was throwing a party for my birthday. Sure I celebrated my birthday- chocolate cake with candles, tiny party hat for the festivity, maybe a little ice cream, but I’ve never really had people set up a party just for me.
“Yes a party - you do deserve the best, come on you're keeping everyone waiting!” Venus gestures to the door again.
I begin to follow her out the door putting my phone inside my back pocket. “Whoa, okay…. okay..”
Just as Vee leads me into her room across the hall, I hear yells of surprise from everyone waving their hands and smiling at the sight of me. Good lord help me not be so awkward here.
I cover my mouth in shock of the sight to behold- literally most of the Selected girls were there and jumping in excitement. There was Fleur, Misty, Jordan, Clove, Eloise,
“Hi… everyone!” I say waving at everyone’s direction still covering my mouth. I couldn’t believe Vee had organized all this, and everyone was here! Wow! I didn’t think this many people would want to go to a party for me, this was… surreal.
I feel an arm sling around me, “What do you think?” Vee gestures to her decorated room and I’m just amazed at how much effort she had put into this- my own mother has never put this much effort into a birthday. The gliterring decorations gave it a vibe that only Vee could pull off but she had made sure to put things familiar to me that made it seem like a bedazzled military base.
“Well, I feel like I'm in one of my old bases... just... sparklier. “ I comment looking around and taking in Vee’s transformed room. It was all so sparkly.
In the background I could hear Clove asking about the cupcakes and everyone laughing at the blunt question.
“I wouldn’t mind cupcakes right about now, “ Misty laughs before turning to me, “Happy 20th Marshall, by the way.”
“Oh, thanks Misty.”
What followed was another flurry of personal greetings from everyone, including the usually animated Fleur who asked about my age.
Just as I was about to get myself one of the cupcakes with tiny airplanes on top of it, I hear Clove declare that I should show one of my flight routines to everyone- and I mentally laugh at trying to attempt a routine alone- but everyone seems to like the idea, including Vee.
“Flight routines..well ahh.. anybody have a plane on standby?” I ask sarcastically- all these girls were definitely something.
After a few jokes of leaving planes and not having any planes, Clove presents one of the tiny planes on the cupcakes.
“Plane.”
“Clove likes to play with toy cars and planes apparently.” Eloise side comments in a teasing tone.
“I’m just giving a suggestion.” Clove defends herself, “It has a plane on it.”
“Pffft... fine- I can make due with the cupcakes.” I shake my head with a laugh at their small banter.
“So…” I separate about six cupcakes with planes on them and hold two up in my hands. Uh… I guess I was going to show them the first formation the Bullets and I had learned after basic training. “I'm usually in a formation of six- that's how many we are the squad-”
Just as I was explaining the routine to everyone and everyone was seemingly amazed by the simple formation I was showing to them, I sensed that more people had come into the party.
I arrange the cupcakes into a V shape, “The first formation has to be a V for the six of us, and I'm this one,” I point to one of the cupcakes at the tip.
“V as in me?” I hear Venus giggle and I roll my eyes in reply.
“Don’t flatter yourself, Vale.”
I continue explaining the formation, rearranging cupcakes here and there to explain how as a squad we could do a basic air show.
As I finish up, Venus continues to go through whatever program she had in mind for my party.
“So for the next part of our program, I will be entertaining you all - just give me a second to change.” she declares before doing a quick change rivaled only by Clark Kent.
“SURPRISE MARS!” The beauty guru then pops out of the bathroom wearing a track suit with a camouflage print on it and my jaw just DROPS. “I'll be doing a segment on impersonating our very own Camille Marshall.”
“Oh God, this should be fun…” Poppy comments as we all watch in mild horror at what Venus was going to do (okay, the mild horror was more on me) .
“OH GOOD LORD,” I exclaim as cover my eyes with my hands, hoping to just get through the impersonation without dying of embarrassment.
Venus deepens her voice as she starts her act, “Hi. I'm Marshall and I brood a lot.”
“I DO NOT BROOD,” I defend myself… okay.. maybe I do get caught up in my own thoughts and not end up talking every once in a while… but ugh okay, there was only one way to save face here.
“…a lot.” I correct Venus earning laughter throughout the room.
“Don’t forget the salutations,” Clove mumbles.
“Salutations, I also think about flying planes a lot.” Vee says in her deepened voice (I didn’t have a super deep voice, it was just modulated a lot but that’s beyond the point). Venus then decides to add some plane noises for extra comedic effect. All I could do was try to move my jaw as I tried to think of something else to defend myself with.
“Is she also a plane?”
In her most stoic and deep voice, Vee adds “I love planes so much I might as well be one”
“What’s truly sad is how accurate it is…” Poppy comments and I suddenly regain my ability to speak.
“IT'S "GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS" FYI.” I correct again. For some reason, that kind of greeting had stuck to me since I was a kid.
Everyone continues to laugh at Venus’ impression of me, and I can’t help but shake my head in mock horror. I feel so exposed.
A knock on the door catches our attention and Venus opens it to the sight of three of Nate’s siblings: Quinn, Brooks, and Mal. Wow, were they here for the party? I shouldn’t be asking that, Brooks had a present in his hands. Nice sleuthing Sherlock.
Venus audibly gasps, “Good evening your highnesses.”
And everyone else in the room has a brief moment of shock at the royals outside the bedroom door, all of us scrambling to follow a Venus who dipped into one of her curtsies.
On the bright side, my initial reaction wasn’t to salute them… so I’ve obviously made progress in lessons with Lady Collette, but I needed to improve my reaction time when curtsying. Maybe later.
“Hello! We heard there was a birthday.” Quinn greets all of us with a smile while Mal looked like she was going to kill someone and Brooks looked like his usual awkward self which I related to some level.
“Please don’t curtsy!” Brooks exclaims to the attention of most of the girls present. Fleur, Jordan, and Clove didn’t seem to take their eyes off him. Poppy and Mal were having some stare down.
“Yes there is! Our very own Mars!” Vee gestures to me, and I curtsy at their attention.
“Hi there your highnesses.” Not one of my best greetings, quite honestly.
“Great, we bought a present!” Quinn says.
“Can we go now?” Mal side comments before her older sister pushes through the door.
“Have a seat please, we were just doing a segment on appreciating Mars' best qualities.” Venus offers the royals somewhere to sit with her usual grace- damn, this girl was good at hosting people, being polite and all that. Quinn graciously took a seat while Mal seemed to be staring down Poppy.
After a brief mini-confrontation between Poppy and Mal, which thankfully didn’t end in me having to pull someone off another, an obviously uncomfortable Brooks approaches me with the present in hand.
“Merry Christmas- er... Happy Birthday.” Brooks says, handing me the gift.
“Ha! Thanks a lot, Prince Brooks.” I say setting the gifts down on one of the tables.
“Just Brooks, please.” he smiles at me before everyone’s attention is turned back to Venus.
“Now that's settled, shall I finish my segment? I have a special guest coming in after this.” she declares. “Err...of course all of you are special too,” Venus gestured towards the royals in the room, damn- I can’t believe how I had a prince and two princesses at my birthday. I could barely get a clown or a mascot in those old days.
Everyone receives Venus with amusement, telling her to continue.
“Special guest?” I ask… who would Venus invite? MY PARENTS? MY FATHER? I hope she didn’t invite them, they’re the worst party goers ever.
“As I was saying,” Venus says as she shifts her features into a stoic expression and squares her shoulders to make her stand a little more rigid, “I'm Marshall, I love planes, I'm a damn good soldier and best of all even though my friends pull stunts like this, I still love them.” she switches to her regular speaking voice,
“Give it up for the birthday girl everyone!” she claps and we all cheer and applaud her for her Oscar-worthy portrayal of me.
After the clapping dies down, Venus continues to speak,“Okay do you all want the special guest first or to mingle first? Because I've been told this special guest might make Mars cry.”
“Let the birthday girl choose then,” Fleur suggests.
“Marshall?? Showing emotion?? Sorry, I don’t know her,” Poppy laughs and I can’t actually help but laugh along with her.
“I never cry, okay?” I joke before taking a bite from a cupcake.
There was truth to that statement, I never really was the one to cry…? It must have been all those years being raised under the same roof as an admiral and an EMT pilot, my emotions were kinda better at being kept at bay thanks to their parenting.
“What if the puppy in the movie dies?” Clove asks which then begins a few more theories on things that could possibly make me cry, which included a suggestion of a plane crash and some reference to something on the internet I don’t quite understand.
“All of you discuss what would make her cry I'll go prepare our guest.” she says, slipping out of the door
While we wait for Venus to bring in the special guest, everyone starts to make small talk- and by that I mean .. somehow gang up on Brooks and turn him into the main topic of conversation, which was hilarious to watch as a bystander. From what I pick up from them, something is bound to go on between Brooks and one of the girls at this rate.
It was funny seeing Brooks get so bothered with all the attention.
Just as the banter was getting even more entertaining, Venus quickly comes in leaving the door slightly ajar.
“Now here is the one person that can make Marshall cry, introducing TAYLOR SWIFT!” Vee announces.
“TAYLOR IS HERE?!”I quickly whip my head up and I feel my knees buckle for a second.
“Courtesy of Eloise,” Venus informs me, “She knows all the best people in the industry.”
“ARE YOU TELLING ME,” I just can’t contain my excitement as I look to Eloise’s direction, “TAYLOR SWIFT IS HERE??”
Eloise flashes me a smile, “Consider it my gift to you, happy birthday!”
“YOU KNOW TAYLOR?” I really can’t get over it. Good lord, Taylor Swift is in this building right now.
“The one and only.” she laughs, and I figure that Eloise would know her- her family owned a huge record label.
Before I can even comprehend what’s going on, Taylor Swift casually walks through Venus’ door.
“Hi everyone!” Taylor Swift (OH MY GOD TAYLOR SWIFT) waves before walking up to me, “Hello, you must be Marshall, the birthday girl.” she says as she opens her arms to hug me.
“Heavens to Betsy! It’s Taylor!” I exclaim as I hug her. I couldn’t breathe, it was Taylor, Taylor Swift was hugging me. Oh MY GOD, try not to cry or freak out too much. It’s not like your childhood idol was standing right in front of you.
As I pull away from the hug, Taylor smiles. “I love you honey!”
“Oh my god, is that emotions?? from the Camille Marshall?” Poppy comments with a laugh.
Venus replies with a smirk, “Told you.”
I can’t believe it, Taylor Swift in the flesh. I needed to process this for a while as I sat on the ground for a while trying to not cry- Oh god, it was like my inner 12 year old was unleashed. “Oh my God, it's Taylor…”
“I’ve worshipped you since I was 12!” I mention, which right off the bat was already too much information. “I learned how to play guitar because of you! Oh My God!”
Tumblr media
“Aw sweetie, I’m honoured.” Taylor smiles, and OH MY GOD she’s nicer than I thought she’d ever be.
“I think I’m gonna cry,” I say using one of my hands to cover my face and the other to fan myself. I’m pretty sure that I’m freaking everybody else out with this little freak out, but it appears that even Mal was star struck by Taylor.
“Oh don’t do that! I’m just so excited to be here for you” Taylor says patronizingly.
“I've wanted to meet you for years.” 8 years to be exact.
“Happy birthday Mars I'm going to check on the cake” Venus informs me before making another dash for the door and Taylor continues to socialize with the other guests at the party.
I’m surprised to see Mal walk up to me in a not-so-threatening manner- contrary to all the stories of terror told to me by the other girls. “You are SO lucky!”
“I KNOW, OH MY GOD! TAYLOR SWIFT IS LITERALLY HERE IN THE FLESH.” I turn to the equally excited princess (who I’m pretty sure was a fellow Swiftie) earning me an excited grin in reply.
Eloise laughs, “Well I think she has a song for you, any requests?”
I’m practically bouncing on my heels as I answer Eloise’s question. “OKAY I'M NOT 22 YET BUT CAN WE PLEASE SING TO 22?”
I’d request for any song from Taylor’s Red album- all of those songs were the soundtrack of many summers for me and 22 was my jam.
“You got it!” Taylor smiles as she finds a nice area to perform in and picks up her guitar. “This is, of course, dedicated to the birthday girl!”
As the pop country icon begins to sing, I remember that I owe Eloise a lot for bringing Taylor here, so I manage to walk to her side to show her some of my gratitude.
“Thanks a lot for bringing her and stuff.” I say smiling at her.
Eloise waves her hand casually, “Oh no problem! She was happy to do it”
“I-I just can't believe it! You don't know how grateful I am.” I admit to her, trying to thank her in the best way I can. We weren’t exactly the closest, but I still appreciated what she had done.
While I was trying to have a meaningful heart to heart with Eloise, I couldn’t help but overhear the bickering from the corner of the room.
“there is more than one corner in this room” Clove remarks bitingly.
“Go find one.” Brooks sharply responds.
“OR JUST GET A ROOM YOU TWO!” I yell back, obviously sensing some kind of tension between those two, nothing like that line to make people shut it oooor you know.. get together (though technically as a government employee, I’d have to advise against any possible treasonous act)
I try my best to sing along with Taylor, but I feel a bit of shame knowing that singing was never really my talent- but everyone seems to not die from my singing and patronizingly cheer us as Taylor continues to perform 22.
When we finish the song, Brooks yells for Clove to sing and I can’t help but laugh at the events that follow. Taylor was happy to share the stage with Clove but offered instead let Brooks sing a duet with her, to the entertainment of everyone else in this room- including me. God, those two nerds needed to get a room (though I’d advise against it, because technically, as a government employee, I had to advocate against any possible treason).
What proceeds to follow turns out to be a surprise duet whose chemistry was rivaled only by that opening song from the first High School Musical movie. It was a surprise that Clove and Brooks had known the harmonies to Everything Has Changed, and it was actually pretty decent for something that hasn’t been practiced. Apparently, everyone in the Schreave family somehow had unfairly good musical talent.
Just as their song ends and the two of them were recovering from the power of a Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran collab (and all their apparent embarrassment), everyone continues to mingle and have fun. Meanwhile, I was enjoying one the divine cupcakes as Quinn and Mal had quickly left that party, leaving Brooks on his own.
“It's okay Brooks you can have the cake!” Venus comes through the door with another bright smile on her face as she brings in the cake with Clara.
I’m shocked at its design, looking exactly like planes in formation mid air- a scene straight out of my memories. It was nothing short of spectacular as it all looked so realistic, and I know everyone was in awe of the cake’s design too.
Venus sets the cake the down on one of the tables before she walks up to me with a smirk, “So what did you think of the special guest?”
“I may have cried... a little…” I reply.
“Mission Accomplished.” She smiles at me before she claps her hands together, “Okay! Lets cut this marvellous cake done by the amazing Clara Eclair!”
“Shout out to Clara. what a gal. you know how she’s doing? amazing sweetie.” Poppy remarks, and I laugh- she had the best side comments.
“Okay on the count of three let's sing! 1, 2, 3, Happy Birthday to you…” Venus leads as everyone begins to sing along. As meaningful as this moment was, I still felt the usual awkwardness of being the center of the “Happy Birthday” song- did I sing along? Clap my hands? Instead of those two usual options, I decide to smile waiting for the awkwardness to stop and live in the moment- until Brooks proceeds to raise his voice while singing, shocking everyone and leaving us in a fit of laughter.
As the song ends, I quickly blow the candles from the cake… and then I realize… “Oh shit, I forgot to make a wish.”
“Fuck, I shouldn't say shit.” I was in the presence of royalty and girls who all have me beat at etiquette. I cover my mouth, “Fuck, pardon my French.”
“Language!” Vee yells in mock sternness before giggling along with everyone else- I’m glad that no one took offense from my verbose vocabulary.
“Yeah, I'll just stop talking now.” I shrug, “Come on, let's eh cut the cake!”
As Venus begins to cut the cake, she dabs a bit of frosting on my nose, “I love you, hun!”
I wipe the frosting off my nose with a laugh, “Lots of love too, Vee.” God Bless Venus Vale.
We all enjoy the cake, marveling the baked good and arguing about who got pieces of the plane (which was also made out of chocolate) having fun before Venus suggests that we could begin the next part of her program, which was Truth or Dare.
Needless to say, I’ve never had a wilder game of Truth or Dare than the one I was playing with all these people. We were jumping into pools, fooling around, rapping, talking about old flames, teasing each other, and doing everything in good fun.
Throughout the night, we give each other dares more daring than the last one and enjoy each other’s company.
After performing a head stand for a dare, daring Clove to imitate someone, and the quick departure of Brooks, a knock on the door catches my attention and I walk to it- seeing that no one was going to get it (or everyone else was probably a little too drunk to hear it).
Opening the door, I’m caught off guard as I see Nate standing at the door with a poorly wrapped gift in his hands.

maknae line: yeoreum, dayoung, yeonjung
gay line: xuan yi, exy, luda, eunseo, yeoreum
trouble line: luda, eunseo, mei qi, dayoung

wonder unit, dance line
in the parent line partnered with xuan yi whom she loves, loves attention, luda is her favorite child

99 line, 18, capricorn
joy unit, i think shes a sub vocalist (?)
big weird gay baby who learns from eunseo
her talent is an impression of cleaning camera lenses
kind of a sub rapper, has rapped on b-tracks before
keeps calling herself the maknae. is not the maknae
dayoung:
99 line, 17, taurus
wonder unit, vocal line
loudest member by far and just so Much
varitey queen of the group, the funniest member up there with eunseo
second Mom-Not-Mom of the group like eunseo bc she can cook and wakes the other members up but cant be part of the parent line bc shes a literal infant and also has the hyperactivity of a chicken on cocaine
yeonjung:
99 line, 17, leo (represents that weird thirteenth sign ophiuchus)
so backstory time she was originally supposed to debut with the girls but got put on produce 101 about the same time they debuted so they just. didnt put her in the group
fast forward and she makes it into ioi cause shes crazy talented
she wants to leave starship and is just Upset in general but the girls b e g her to stay and just join wjsn instead
she does and becomes the new maknae and power vocal along side dawon
since their concept is astrology they used the convenient thirteenth sign to represent her
shes in the natural unit and vocal line
all the girls love and adore her and supported her ioi promotions and concerts
shes Loud but shes more of a follower as in she laughs at whatever dayoung does and goes along with her shenanigans
popular ships:
bona/xuan yi: jeongcheol if they were healthy but still played games
eunseo/cheng xiao: just the most pure thing in the whole world and eunseo is so embarrassing
eunseo/luda: tall gay small gay
eunseo/most of them
soobin/seola: scully mulder couple, seola is going to marry soobin so that she can annoy her for the rest of her life. soobin is going to die
OK SO those are the lovely wonderful members of wjsn so lets go on to videos and such:
they debuted with momomo (and also catch me) in february of 2016
they had an august comeback when yeonjung joined with secret
they had their second comeback with i wish in january of 2017 (performance version)
they havent gotten their first win yet :( BUT theyve promised when they do theyre gonna dance in space suits so lets get them that win
also between momomo and secret half of them did a collab with monsta x for a phone commercial i believe called do better which also has a dance practice
dawon was on girl spirit and performed yanghwa bridge, way to go, music is my life, and youre the best (with yeonjung real love and friendship)
theyve been on weekly idol twice
last summer they had a reality show called would you like girls (i would) and it was wonderful. im rewatchign that with emma soon and since i probably wont cry the whole time bc i love them so much ill chronicle it more closely and they have the uzzu tapes which are sort of a mini reality show for them that theyve had since debut which are super cute
they also have two versions of dance practices for every title track they have, one regular one and one closeup version which is a gift
the momomo dance practice is one of the most queer and iconic things theyve ever done along with its closeup version
in the secret dance practice they have matching outfits and its really just an Experience (closeup)
i wish has three dance practices bc they shot and uploaded one while mei qi was gone but during one of her trips back they shot a Real one along with a closeup one
there was also a robot self cam that saved my life
if youre one of those seventeen stans who DOESNT stan wjsn but talks about how synchronized 17 are you need to watch the dance practices right now
im currently working on lists of best live performances (one list for each title track) and best b-tracks of wjsn so keep an eye out for those
hit me up for any other questions u have abt my Girls or u can just look up wjsn on my blog and have a grand old time with that
enjoy your time with the gay witch coven from outer space

This is the fourth year that I’ve attended Brooklyn Academy of Music’s series “Eat, Drink & Be Literary” (“EDBL” from here on) and the 15th year since it began, and I hope to attend many more.  This year, I was in the presence of Min Jin Lee, author of Free Food for Millionaires and Pachinko.
As in years past, the staff at BAMcafé was on top of everything, making sure the guests were taken care of at all times.  They are always so friendly, courteous and efficient, taking care of guests with the professionalism repeat attendees have grown accustomed to.  The meal had already begun when I walked in so I found a seat, dropped my bags and made a beeline to the buffet.  The food has never been a disappointment and this year kept that streak alive.
This year’s menu consisted of Country Elote Salad, Country-Style Chopped Greek Salad, Char Grilled Carrots, Three Bean Salad, Patatas Bravas and Pan Seared Salmon.  I had a little of everything and, as always, the food was delicious  The dessert offering was a Banoffee Chocolate Cup, which was caramelized bananas and toffee mouse in a mini chocolate cup.  It was like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, only better.  The dessert was tiny but decadent and I had an entire plate of it to myself.  But I showed (some) restraint and kept the gluttony to a minimum.  This year’s wine choices were a 2015 Arneis and 2014 Barbera, both from the Seghesio Family Vineyards.  I had the Barbera and can confirm that this choice was an excellent one.
During dinner, guests were treated to the music of 1in2, a violin-piano duet featuring Blanca Cecilia González (violin) and Jesse Elder (piano).  Their style was a combination of classical and jazz, which brought an eclectic mix to the event.  And hearing them play the Game of Thrones theme song only enhanced their appeal.
When I was done with my meal, I walked over to the Greenlight Bookstore kiosk to see what was on display.  I thought I would be able to keep my wallet in check, but who was I kidding?  I walked away with a copy of Ms. Lee’s first book, Free Food for Millionaires, Understanding Mass Incarceration by James Kilgore and a big smile on my face.
Once dinner was over, Deborah Treisman, the Fiction Editor at one of my favorite magazines, The New Yorker was introduced.  Ms. Treisman then introduced Ms. Lee, who had us all laughing almost immediately.  She talked about the first time she attended EDBL and was in awe of Zadie Smith, who was the guest author that evening.  Ms. Lee was in shock that she was in the same room as Ms. Smith, but also couldn’t get over her amazing cheekbones.  I can attest to that same feeling, as I saw Zadie Smith at EDBL (possibly on the same night) and could not believe we were in the same room (read my post about that amazing experience here).  Ms. Lee then read a chapter from her latest book, Pachinko and I was so moved by what I heard.  I have a copy of Pachinko that I purchased last year, but have not had the chance to read it.  Once I’m done with N.K. Jemisin’s Inheritance trilogy, Pachinko will be my next read.  Her writing is rich and detailed, and I fell right into her work.
After the reading, Ms. Treisman and Ms. Lee sat down for a very lively discussion full of laughs and Ms. Lee provided guests with so many thought-provoking answers to the questions posed to her.  At one point, Ms. Lee said that after doing all of her research for Pachinko, she realized that she didn’t know anything about the people.  It took her 30 YEARS to write that book, which was never intended to be an historical novel.  Ms. Lee is currently working on her third novel, which she said will be about hogwans (private tutoring centers in South Korea) and the amount of debt parents get into so their children can succeed.
Afterwards, there was a Q&A session, which gave guests a chance to ask their burning questions.  I’m always amazed at this part of the event, because the guests usually have such thought-provoking questions.  The authors seem to love this part of the session as well and get a real kick out of engaging with the guests.  One guest asked Ms. Lee about her theme of luxury in her first book.  The author answered that when she was doing research for that book she visited a popular luxury discount mall called Woodbury Commons.  While there, she was astounded at the number of Asians who were shopping.  She said that in Asian culture, it is encouraged to acquire items of worth after doing great work, meaning that they will work extremely hard and then reward themselves with something of value.  Ms. Lee also said that she wanted to write about debt and people who buy things they can’t afford, but wanted to write about those themes with compassion.  After the Q&A, Ms. Lee made her way over to the Greenlight Bookstore kiosk area to sign copies of her books.
And before you knew it, the end of this year’s Eat, Drink & Be Literary had come.  Myself and the other attendees left with full bellies, a book or two, big smiles and the anticipation of attending next year’s event.  Keep your eyes peeled for news of 2020’s EDBL, which I’ll pass on to you fine folks as soon as it is announced.
Until next year!

Why K-Pop Star Chung Ha Washes Her Face Three Times Every Night

Why K-Pop Star Chung Ha Washes Her Face Three Times Every Night
Why K-Pop Star Chung Ha Washes Her Face Three Times Every Night
Raise your hand if you’re ready for Chung Ha to have a goth concept. The 22-year-old Korean pop singer has covered the bases for cute and colorful looks since debuting with disbanded girl group I.O.I in 2016. Now that she’s been a soloist for a good year and a half, imagine her swiping on black lipstick before taking the stage.
Chung Ha doesn’t hate the idea when I suggest it during a recent phone interview. “Maybe for Halloween,” she tells me as she sits backstage before a performance in Seoul. “One day, I would love to try it.” She even brings up trying out a midnight blue lipstick because she loves dark lip colors, so I swear I’m not the only one who is putting this concept into the universe for Chung Ha.
At the moment, Chung Ha is focusing on the concept for her newest mini-album Blooming Blue, though. True to the season, the music video for its title song “Love U” radiates summer vibes, including but not limited to, Chung Ha’s beachy blonde-streaked brown hair and popsicle-stained lips. “[The concept] might remind you of a pool party,” Chung Ha says. I dare you to watch the music video and not want to slip on your bathing suit.
Experimenting With Beauty Trends
Some of this summer’s most popular beauty trends also dominate Blooming Blue’s concept. I have to admit that I screamed internally when I scrolled past a photo Chung Ha posted on Instagram to tease the album of her face speckled with pearls in the formation of freckles. It’s exactly the kind of experimental look that gets me excited about covering K-pop for Allure.
For another promo shot, half of Chung Ha’s hair was tied up into two mini buns, her cheeks were swept with a lemon-yellow blush, and her lids were covered in a shimmery wash of bubblegum pink. Bold eye shadow, in particular, has been incorporated into makeup as she makes the rounds on South Korea’s popular music shows to promote “Love U.” Like many K-pop stars, Chung Ha consistently has the same makeup for every performance. For this comeback, colorful underliner is the focal point of her makeup. “I put on different colored eye shadows on my [lower lids],” she says of her everyday look. Today, she notes that it’s purple, but she’s also done baby blue and fuchsia.
My favorite part of the whole look is the tiny star-shaped rhinestones placed right below Chung Ha’s tear ducts. While promoting her last title song “Rollercoaster,” Chung Ha points out that she had circular ones on the middle of her lower lids. For her goth concept, she can do tiny half moons on the outer corners of her eyes — just saying.
Because Chung Ha seems so on top of beauty trends, I ask her if there are any happening in Korea that haven’t made their way to the U.S. yet. “I’m not sure because we can share everything on YouTube,” she says. True. That’s how she recently found out about cryotherapy. “I haven’t tried it before, but I really want to,” she says. Maybe we should get cryofacials while we’re in Los Angeles for KCON LA? (I’m only half-kidding.)
The Impact of “Rollercoaster”on Chung Ha’s Look Throughout our interview, Chung Ha repeatedly refers back to “Rollercoaster.” Its bright concept truly helped solidify and define Chung Ha’s aesthetic in the K-pop world. Not only was has it been her favorite concept so far, but it’s also one that she says fits her personal style best. The glow-in-the-dark makeup was fun, but Chung Ha still isn’t over the amount of glitter involved. I thought I loved glitter, but Chung Ha lives for it. She brings it up so many times I start to wonder if it runs through her veins.
With copious amounts of sparkle on her eyes, outfits, and nails for the music video, the concept made Chung Ha feel more comfortable than, say, the cutesy, ice cream-themed concept I.O.I had for its final album. (She names this as the hardest concept for her to pull off.) While in the makeup chair for “Rollercoaster,” “I gave a lot of suggestions, like, let’s do glitter here, let’s do glitter there,” she says. “I love glitter so much.”
Turns out, giving input on her hair and makeup concepts is commonplace for Chung Ha. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like input from others either. “I also love listening to other people’s advice, so I could try new stuff like the freckles,” she adds.
Chung Ha does have thoughts on her next concept, though. Surprisingly, the look she has is mind is completely opposite to her favorite look. “For my next concept, I’d like to go very matte with more of a nude tone,” she says. “And my hair not colorful, just black or maybe brown — really minimal.”
Chung Ha’s Go-To Skin-Care Routine Despite being experimental with her hair and makeup in her professional life, Chung Ha rarely tries out new looks when she’s not working. “Because I wear makeup all the time when I’m on schedule and on stage, I give my skin time to rest and breathe,” she explains. “I actually don’t put on makeup that much in my free time.”
Instead, Chung Ha concentrates on giving her skin some TLC with soothing sheet masks. “They’re comfortable and easy to dispose of,” she explains. Wash-off masks, on the other hand, aren’t her favorite because rinsing them off can be harsh on skin, and she’s all about gentle formulas.
Cleansing is also a key part of Chung Ha’s skin-care routine. “Even if you put so many good products on, there’s no use if your skin isn’t washed thoroughly,” she explains. If she’s wearing makeup, Chung Ha starts off with an eye makeup remover before embarking on a three-step process. An oil cleanser kicks things off by gently sweeping away any leftover makeup. (My favorite is the Banila Co Clean It Zero Original Cleansing Balm, in case you’re looking for a recommendation.) Then, she reaches for a foaming cleanser like the Neogen Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Foam.
Lastly, Chung Ha like to do what she calls “bubbling it out” with face wash that, well, bubbles. (She didn’t mention her go-to, but try the Belif Pore Cleaner Bubble Foam.) “That’s about it,” she finishes off the list, as if it isn’t an extensive cleansing regimen. I tell her some people just use a face wipe and call it a day, so I respect her washing her face three times. “Really?” she replies. “I thought I was really simple because I wear so much makeup.”
She thinks the rest of her routine was simple, too. Spoiler alert: It’s not. After cleansing comes her toner set. The first one is a cleansing toner. (Allure editors love the Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner.) The second is a hydrating toner. Then, she smooths on an essence, a moisturizer, and a sleeping pack — in that order.
If you lost count of how many steps that is, Chung Ha’s skin-care routine adds up to nine steps. Occasionally, a tenth is incorporated. “If I would do another one, I would do eye cream,” she adds. “But I don’t usually do my eye cream. I forget.” Same. I’m glad K-pop stars forget to put on eye cream, too.
