This morning I misread the theorem on the board and thought it said subset instead of subspace, which was rather troubling since we used convexity in the argument. Naturally, I ask what guarantees convexity and the professor pointed out subspace so cool. Great.

But he also said "where did you pick that up? Off the street?"

Because yeah, you can use a convex set instead of subspace. But it was such an unexpected question, phrased in such an unexpected way.

Hiatus Notice

Hi all, didn't want to make this post on my birthday, but I do need to do it now: I'm going to need to take a hiatus from drawing due to my wrist being hurt again.

Anyone who watches my streams knows that I still try and do my stretches while working all the time, so getting hurt again so badly that I can't work at all is nothing short of completely devastating to me. I have spent most of my time crying nonstop about it. All I can do now is the proper next steps...stop and rest, talk to my doctor about it, and hopefully get any physical or massage therapy I need so that I can recover and get back to work ASAP.

I don't know what my timetable for recovery would be right now, but I'm really hoping it's not as long as last time. I just know I won't be able to share any art until I'm better and can draw regularly again.

This just sucks because I already feel like I've been slow at things, and I had multiple things in the works...Eldritchrune comics, and also a project I was working on for the next anniversary. I apologize that it's going to be a wait before I can share any art again...even once I get back into drawing, my job still comes first.

I will update here more once I hopefully know what to do from my doctor, and I can still answer asks, but no art for awhile. I'm so sorry about the wait...trust me when I say this is my biggest nightmare, and I've been an emotional wreck about it.

And artists: please learn from my miseries and take care of yourselves, especially if you draw professionally. Take breaks, stretch frequently, drink lots of water, do NOT overwork, listen to your body, listen to your doctors and therapists. The world doesn't treat us as such, especially nowadays, but you are athletes. Take care of your body the same way an athlete would.

i’ve seen plenty of alt-looper AUs where sapfrin’s wish resulted in someone else looping, assisted by starry loop. and i’ve seen plenty where isatfrin or one of their party members made some kind of wish that resulted in additional people remembering the loops.

but

how about an au where sapfrin’s wish resulted in someone else looping, while sapfrin remained in the role of siffrin? either now there’s two loopers in the party, or, the ability to remember new loops is what transferred, so siffrin wakes up every time with their last memory being the wish for help.

this siffrin is just so ground down and not siffrin anymore. but without becoming loop, they’d keep trying to act the part, which is easy enough when they’ve got a script, but… the more the other looper switches things up, the more siffrin will struggle. the other looper will want to help them, but what can even be done when they're still stuck in the loops??

if siffrin still remembers new loops, then they have to keep going through the fucking house even after they reached their breaking point. but at least there’s hope now? but is there really? and now, for the first time in years, they have to deal with someone else being able to remember their actions, and this person knows about the time loops. siffrin definitely isn’t going to be jumping to confide in them, despite how desperately they need the help — will they even tell them that they’d been looping for ages already?? even if they try not to, it’ll eventually become obvious something is going on.

or if siffrin doesn’t remember new loops anymore… how would the new looper handle it? how many times do they explain that they’re looping now instead before they stop bothering with it? or does not explaining means siffrin freaks out too much at the looper abandoning the script entirely for no apparent reason? but there’s no way they won’t freak out upon learning that they’ve just doomed someone else to live out this hell in their stead, that’s quite the news to have to break every single time. perhaps there’s an in-between that would work?? lying about what’s changed, or following the script until they suddenly deviate, then immediately loop back once done with the deviation? they have all the time they need to workshop it, at least.

either way, this siffrin is probably gonna be even less help than loop was. at least loop got to chill out at the favor tree and think — siffrin doesn't have that luxury. and while the new looper will be bringing in a fresh perspective, they simply don't know the things one needs to know about siffrin in order to figure out these siffrin-based loops. and, at this point, siffrin might not anymore either! it's been years since they made their wish. that doesn't make it unsolvable, especially since it's possible to get out by pure chance. but it'll be hard, especially since siffrin has even more intense reactions than isatfrin, as evidenced by them not even making it to euphrasie before looping back.

what a fun little bad time for everyone ^^

It's so funny to me how much Ame's usual script for getting to know people does not work with Wizards.

A lot of the gap there is Citadel vs. Toma related but also if I was Sworn I absolutely would not have been polite enough to neutrally ask if there 'was scorn in [her] voice' at my expressing loyalty but not love to a commander (that I respect but have also only known for a couple of weeks) instead of the much more direct 'Hey what's your fucking problem?'

[Also it's so interesting to me catching all these glimpses at the internal politics of the Citadel.

Especially the imperial infantry who on the one hand are much closer to the 'normal' people Ame is used to dealing with than the Citadel Wizards and also are objectivity looked down upon by at least some of the Wizards and the system as a whole, but are also causing a lot of problems by being rowdy and rude to/about Eursolon and Ame!]

I really want to see a more fucked up version of Charlie in canon. Like, okay, I am a die-hard for sweet bubbly girls in media. But I always see how some people make Charlie actually, oh I dunno... demonic? And it's so refreshing for her type of character. I could honestly see her having low empathy (and we kinda see this with how she handled Angel's situation or even Vaggie's nervousness about taking control on an activity). An exploration of that trait (if it was intended) would be interesting to see for a protagonist, especially when her main goal is about helping others. I would love to see her actually have a level of difficulty in understanding others' feelings from the other residents, sinners, and even her father.

But give her a fucked up side. Not a "she gets more power when she's angey uwu", but a "oh, she's a little fucked in the head". It would give so much to her character that she just doesn't have.

@/murmurmurena (don't wanna bother them so slash there we go) has some fun ideas with Charlie. I highly encourage people to check their stuff out! So many fun dark ideas with her character while also still keeping to her canon personality pretty well! Personally, I think Charlie being a bit more naive to her own messed up traits would work best but her also being aware of these traits can make for some interesting character for her.

THIS FIC, "A Game Between You and I". RIGHT HERE WITH THE FIRST CHAPTER. A bit of spoil for the fic here: but I love how they handled Charlie’s absolute ignorance as to why the idea of Russian roulette is horrifying to Angel Dust. It doesn't feel like her being intentionally malicious or aware that she's the odd man out here. This is also a pretty old fic going by only the pilot, but the point still stands that it was such a fun take for her character!

Charlie is one of my favorite characters in the show in part of the POTENTIAL she could have as being the most bubbly sweetheart character while also being the most messed up character in the show. I can't say I have strong confidence with the show's writing and fully expect them to stick with Charlie being the "nice girl but oh no, don't get her angry or she gets scarwy". Which isn't bad for a character mind you, there's just so much more potential to Charlie outside of that trope, especially when you get into the theories of her either being a doll, Roo's biological daughter, or what have you. And for the MAIN CHARACTER of the show, it would be not only interesting but also bring the spotlight back to her.

There's really no question that the side characters steal the show, particularly all the male characters. If I'm honest, Charlie does not feel like she gets a lot of love from the show itself when she's supposed to be the main character. She feels far more flat compared to the rest of the characters (again, the male cast in this "female-lead" show has more depth than most of the female cast currently. I wouldn't be pointing this tidbit concerning the genders of characters if it weren't for the fact Viv defended Helluva's lack of development with their female cast by saying "Hazbin is a female-lead show and Helluva is a male-lead" and Hazbin ended up with it not feeling female lead (to me) and the male cast just completely stealing the show. I don't normally care about gender stuff, especially since I do personally lean interest towards male characters. But using one show as a defense for poor development of the female characters, and then that show not really holding up with no very interesting well-developed feeling female characters irritates me. It's just very clear that these shows don't seem to care much about the female cast :/)

If you like how Charlie is written that's totally fine. PERSONALLY, I just think they're missing so much opportunity with her character by just making her the standard female character type. I honestly don't have a lot of faith they'll actually do something with Charlie's character though. She's a pretty static character in S1 being the same from start to end. Not changing or learning anything to create any development. What does the end of season Charlie do that start of season Charlie wouldn't do? Fight back? Because we see with the pilot (which is the “first episode”) that Charlie does fight people if pushed like with Katie Killjoy and even Valentino. Static characters can work in media depending on the show or their role. But Charlie is the MC of a show about “bettering one's self”. So to have her as a static with not a lot of strong dilemmas for herself (like we see with Angel Husk Al and even Vox) seems silly. Plus, considering Hazbin is telling a whole story and it's not a fun episodic thing, characters are expected to grow on some level. Or else, what was the point of their hero's journey?

act 5 au Siffrin having an unfun time because EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS LOOP IS WRONG but they don't wanna loop so. everyone else has unfun time too (and since au playing. a liiiittle with equipped memories):

The Sadness is coming closer! You reach for your rapier, and Siffrin whirls about to face it, but instead of taking his dagger in hand he raises his voice, still cheerful but louder than you've ever heard him speak:

"Do you blinding mind?"

The Sadness shrinks back instantly, from Siffrin's request or tone or rigid stance, you don't know, but you know, you most certainly know it's more scared of Siffrin than you as it shrinks away, turning and fleeing to hide in a corner. Siffrin turns back to you, their entire face a smile that's forced their eye closed.

"Um." You say, intelligently.

"Um???" Isabeau echoes.

"Wh--how'd you do THAT?" Bonnie asks, coming up from the rear to stare at the frightened Sadness.

Madame Odile doesn't say anything, her expression grim as her eyes flick from the Sadness to Siffrin. His smile fades before dropping entirely, his eye unslitting to scan your expressions.

They--scowl? Then-- They turn away. "Fine. We won't do a review to loosen up. Let's just move on." They start stalking away down the long hall.

Bonnie immediately chases after him, with the rest of you quickly following. Madame Odile directs Bonnie to get behind her again, and they do, but not without shouting a question forward: "But how did you do that?"

"...I lost my patience once. I think the Sadnesses still remember."

"They're scared of you!" Bonnie says, sounding amazed, but Siffrin flinches.

You...don't think they're very proud of whatever they did back then. Which is making you very glad that Sadnesses are separate from the people whose emotions they stem from. You can understand that if Siffrin's been fighting Sadnesses over and over for two weeks, his nerves have been fraying. And it's not like he would have been hurting a real person, no matter what he did to a Sadness! Not at all! But it's still unnerving how desperately the Sadness shrinks away from Siffrin as he passes it, its eyes darting to you as if asking for rescue.

It's not a person in danger. It's just a stagnant emotion.

"So it's not just this Sadness? Others back off too?" Isabeau asks. "Could make getting through the House easier!"

Oh! That'd be good, except--you're supposed to practice your shield.

"It's almost all of them. I can handle the others."

You're supposed to practice your shield! "We're fighting too!" you remind them. Maybe, maybe they got stressed because they've been trying to handle too much on their own.

Siffrin doesn't answer, and you hear Madame make a low sound in her throat, short and frustrated. "Siffrin, where are the books you learned about Wish Craft from? I'd like to see them."

"You can't read them."

"But you can. I'd still like to go over them to make sure I understand the situation we're in."

"...First one's on this floor."

You follow Siffrin into the main hall of the first floor and immediately tense at the sight of more Sadnesses roaming the House. Your breath catches as Siffrin stalks ahead without reaching for his dagger or showing any other sign of caution as he closes the distance between him and the Sadness. Even Isabeau hesitates for a second, lurching between following Siffrin and--you think he's almost going to jump ahead of Siffrin when the Sadness notices the approach and skitters away into a corner.

They really are scared of Siffrin.

Isabeau laughs. You know he doesn't actually find this amusing. "Wow, Sif! Pretty amazing!"

Siffrin doesn't respond, and Isa sighs.

"Sif, look. Would it help to do the tutorial?"

That actually gets Siffrin to pause and turn back, looking first at Isabeau and then past him to you with an incredulous look. "The tutorial's for Mirabelle?? She didn't want to."

isat fan meetup at myhouse in ~1 year to put on the sasasap play. i know a couple of the teachers at the art center, i might be able to beg and bribe my way into being allowed to use their theater. i'll have all the set pieces ready and i think if we plan extensively and practice our own parts beforehand then we can do one full day of rehearsal and then one performance. we could make htis happen i swear,
