The reader is an angel from heaven tasked by the Heavenly Courtroom to aid the Hazbin Hotel and its goal on rehabilitating Sinners.

Part 3

First things first, you have to address the look of the hotel. As an angel that was once in charge in making sure Winners were comfortable, you know that appearances play a huge role in making mortal souls feel welcome.

The hotel was just newly built so it is definitely clean, especially with little Niffty running around constantly cleaning any speck of dust but cleanliness isn’t the issue.

“It’s the decoration,” you tell Charlie bluntly. She blinks, bewildered at the prospect.

“The decor? Why what’s wrong with it?”

“There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just not very welcoming.” Charlie’s face is reminiscent of a kicked puppy when you say this.

“Not welcoming?”

“Yes, I know that red is the colour of Hell, however, Hell isn’t necessarily the best place for Sinners.” You start explaining. “If you can decorate the hotel to stand out against the red of hell, you can create a place that won’t constantly remind them that they’re in Hell. This can improve mood, making them more likely to focus on redemption.”

Charlie stands there dumbfounded for a brief moment before she takes out a notepad from… somewhere. You didn’t see a notepad in any of her pockets.

“Mortals also do this back on Earth too. They use colour theory to make spaces feel more welcoming. For example: yellow makes a place look more homely, whilst green can make a place look friendly or cold, depending on the shade.”

Charlie takes notes, nodding enthusiastically.

“Red is already such a bold and harsh colour but with the correlation of Hell, it may be impacting how much people are willing to come by.”

“I see! So I should paint everything!”

“That would take a lot of time and effort, for now, let’s start by adding more greenery into the setting.” You grab some seeds that you prepared in your pocket that morning. Cusping them gently in your palms, you bring them up to your lips and breathe angelic life into them.

The seeds burst with life, breaking free from their shells as green stems grow and curl into your hand until thick, healthy stems develop flower buds and clusters of roots.

You head outside, with Charlie following right after you, her eyes shining with wonder. Vaggie? Well, she’s definitely a lot less impressed.

You eventually stop at a spot at the entrance and dig your heel into the ground, cringing at how dry and hard it was. You dig until you were satisfied with size and plunk the flowers into the dirt. They stood proudly, a bright blue against the hotel’s red before almost immediately wilting into a sad shrivelled mess.

You frown. Huh.

“Oh no! The flowers…” Charlie looks disheartened at the sight and maybe you do too, but you’re not sure.

“Are we really surprised that Hell can’t sustain a flower?” Vaggie pipes up, her arms crossed. “It’s Hell. Why would anything nice grow here?” The she looks over at Charlie. “I stand corrected.”

“…It must be because the soil is drained of nutrients. If we can get some fertilizer and till the soil I’m sure we could get a healthier flower bed.” You rationalize.

Yes! That was it. There’s no people to maintain the perfect pH levels in the soil in Hell. Everyone is too busy trying to survive that they can’t take care of nature. With some care and love, this place will be brimming with nature.

With a quick trip to Hell’s own version of Little Shop of Horrors, the three of you were fully equipped with gardening gear.

“These begonias would look great over by the railing.” You swish your hand, sending a wave of angelic power toward already planted seeds and a bush of blooming begonias come sprouting from the soil. Charlie gasps at the sight.

She’s never seen a plant so nonthreatening. Its leaves were spotted white with small blossoms peeking from under.

That didn’t last long. After a couple seconds of admiration, the bush droops to the ground, wilted.

Your eye twitches.

Maybe it’s because you need a plant that’s more accustomed to the heat. So you plant zinnias and marigolds. Then they meet the same fate as the previous two plants. Which makes you think, maybe a plant that likes dry soil! So you plant cactuses and succulents but they die too.

In the end, none of the plants that Charlie and you planted lived. It’s disheartening to say the least.

You both sit silently on the steps of the hotel, gardening tools and fertilizer scattered across the front lawn.

“Oh my, what do we have here?” Alastor’s crackling voice comes from behind the two of you. Your heart jolts at the sudden noise but you’re careful not to show it. Charlie, on the other hand, jumps straight into the air.

“Ughhh, what do you want now?” Vaggie groans, taking a break from rubbing Charlie’s back to glare at the radio demon.

“Why, can’t a man be concerned? You three have been going at it for nearly an entire day!”

Angel Dust whistles as he walks by, making Alastor glower at him, his smile a bit tighter.

“Just get to the point already,” Vaggie grumbles.

“Well, I couldn’t help but notice your pitiful attempts at gardening, that’s all!” Way to rub it in, Alastor. “It seems that this dirt just wasn’t made for life, hmm? Why I mean,” Alastor materializes beside you, his gaze looks you up and down. It’s almost mocking. “Not even angelic power could grow a flower in this hellish landscape! A shame, a real shame.”

“Are you just here to rub it in? If so you can fuck off already.”

“Of course not! As host of the hotel, it is my job to see it thriving, no?” Vaggie rolls her eyes. “Now, now, Vagatha. Don’t be like that, take a page from Charlie and Y/N’s book and have some faith that this hotel might actually amount to something other than wasted time and delusion!”

“You’re here for a reason. Quit stalling,” you say, your wings a bit ruffled. The implication that any effort put into this hotel is wasted isn’t lost on you or Charlie.

“If anyone needs faith it’s you, Alastor!” Charlie jumps in, frowning at the taller man. “We have actual proof that Sinners could be redeemed! This is the perfect time to start bringing in more Sinners for our cause!”

“Charlie, dearest, of course I have faith. Why, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want to help after all.”

“Then help us already.” Vaggie scowls.

Alastor smiles at her. “And I will!”

“You were on the right path by tilling the first, however…” He materializes beside you, plucking the flower you were sulking over. Your heart jumps at the sudden appearance. Your fright visible in your ruffled feathers, which he smiles at.

“As beautiful as that flower is, it would never survive in this landscape. That is why I propose you use plants native to Hell!” Alastor throws a book at Charlie who fumbles to catch it. When she finally does, she opens it to a random page.

Printed onto the page is a plant called ‘Rat King’. The picture depicts a cluster of long, thin roots intertwined into a ball at the base. Coming up from the roots were spindly stems which narrow leaves and small budding flowers.

“Of course, non native plants wouldn’t survive in such a harsh climate.” You said, nearly facepalming. The answer is so obvious and yet you missed it entirely. “…Thank you, Alastor.” You say sincerely.

In the background, Charlie excitedly starts flipping through the pages for the prettier plants with Vaggie occasionally giving her input.

Alastor smiles widely. “Why of course, dear! I only want nothing but the best for the hotel.” His crackling voice paired with his wide, static smile makes you feel uneasy but you shake it off. You have more gardening to do.

Miraculous Season 5: Luka & Kagami's Wasted Potential

If this show wasn't already bad enough.........

Like everything else, it disappoints me that the writers of this show are lazy when it comes to additional character development essentially in the love rivals

but who am I kidding? I knew what to expect when Thomas quite literally said Gabriel was redeemable after torturing all of Paris for years simply because he wants his wife back actively neglecting & abusing his son in the process while in the same breath saying Chloe is beyond redemption and she's a teenage girl who's dad couldn't give a rat's ass about her and spoils her crazy to get her off his back 24/7 and her mom who wants nothing to do with her verbally & mentally abuses her with the only real people who like her to the slightest and tolerate her are Sabrina and Armand who's practically her butler. The double comparison and double standard is wild but nonetheless not surprising seeing how the show's narrative is already bias when it comes down to Adrien & Marinette's character treatment. (the misogyny and racism is loud as hell)

Season 4 of Miraculous was already beginning to go downhill and season 5 simply added icing on the cake. To be honest I was partly excited to see the relationship dynamic within the love rival relationships, Lukanette & Adrigami at the start of season 4 because it was different from the repetitive love square and we got to see our two main leads interact with other characters in a romantic light other than themselves only to end before they could really start. It was a slap in the face and a huge cut from some possible major character development and love square progress. But the writers are so afraid of change and cant manage to make a good progressive storyline and felt that Luka & Kagami were too much of a threat to their Love Square that could've heavily improved because of them in the first place. Some episodes could've been focused on friendships between the love rivals and Marinette & Adrien. But ofc we get the same monotonous plotline mid season 3 to the beginning of season 4 Adrien & Kagami spend more time together, Marinette is conflicted and overwhelmed with feelings, Luka is there for emotional support (which felt like his sole purpose in earlier episodes even until now) Kagami is constantly frustrated by Adrien's indecisiveness, passiveness, and hesitance, etc, etc whatever and it continues all until they break up.

Then out of the wood works, we get Adrien realizing he has feelings for Marinette despite her being quote on quote "just a friend" 3-4 seasons straight. Despite. Marinette putting a hold on relationships ever since Lukanette's breakup and the fact that Monarch is still on the prowl and her responsibilities as a hero, because lets be honest if Ladybug/Marinette doesn't tend to Paris & Monarch no one else will, (Chat Noir definitely won't) the writers still say "hey lets tend to and coddle Adrien's feelings bc now he likes her more than "just a friend" and it doesn't matter how Marinette feels, doesn't matter if she's not ready for a relationship even though she's made that clear on multiple occasions after her and Luka's breakup bc at the end of day what we learn is what we already know "Adrien's feelings are more important than Marinette's overall treatment as the female protagonist and discomfort."

And what do you ask happens to the love rivals? Of course! the writers have to find a way to string them away from the complicated love square

Instead we get Luka shipped off with his dad on a world tour and Kagami paired with Felix (which........also doesn't feel right and for what reason did this have to happen?) Felix is the same guy who quite literally SH Ladybug, but ok? the writers feel like it makes sense to pair Kagami with this guy? She seems to like him for the same reasons her and Adrien's relationship took so long to work out in the first place. I don't even know what she saw in him, he's so bland, so passive, and everyone characterizes him as a "perfect cinnamon catboy who's abused and needs emotional support leaning on our main female lead who's not responsible for his baggage at all but hey! Everything is Marinette's responsibility after all right? They decide to give Felix more purpose in the show as Felix's a more assertive, serious, proactive version of Adrien and that's exactly what Kagami's looking for but I honestly think that it's a cop out for the possible unresolved feelings she had/has for Adrien (though he doesn't deserve her anyway) . It's like the show's message when it comes to romance and love is the only way to be genuinely happy is in a relationship which is so beyond fucked up, and its a overall bad message to kids and teens, no one in the show learns to love themselves and learn themselves first, Kagami would be simply fine without any relationship I can say the same for many other characters especially Marinette & Adrien. Why are romantic relationships needed to began with?

Season 5 is a prime example of the garbage dump Miraculous has become over the years and the poor writing decisions the writers have made.

tbh i always thought amity should have been the one to give hunter a haircut. aside from being snippy/standing next to each other they haven’t really had time to interact after eclipse lake. and like, that episode was phenominal in building up their dynamic and picking at both their characters. even after the rest of season 2 and thanks to them i feel like although they haven’t interacted much, theyre definitely one of the pairs out of the gang that has the most potential to be super close.

but they don’t talk post eclipse lake, so the most we’ll probably get is a short exchange in the finale where they’re like “we cool?” “we are” “sick” *epic battle sounds* and that’s disappointing! they probably would have planned more with these two in a longer season 3 but man it would have been so cool to have amity see hunter freaking out over how much he looks like belos and help him with it. amity furthered her reconciliation with willow by helping her with her hair. it would be a nice parallel to see her reconcile with hunter by helping him with his hair as well. love is stored in amity’s hairdressing and whatnot.

like all season 1 she was under the influence of her mother and her green hair symbolized that. and in season 2, she changed her hair with the help of her siblings to symbolize how she isn’t under her mother’s control anymore and how she’s ready to grow for the better. hunter struggling with belos’s control over him parallels her. and amity would recognize herself in hunter’s desire to stop looking like belos by changing his hair. by thanks to them, she already resolved most of her baggage with her family, so she could help hunter resolve his baggage as a sort of “passing of the torch,” doing for him what her siblings did for her.

hunter went through a similar arc to amity where he realized the way he’s been taught to treat people isn’t good, and the kindness from his new friends taught him to change for the better. it’s not exactly like amity’s arc since his actions were more forced by dangerous situations while amity had more choice in befriending the gang, but theyre still similar. but anyway by eclipse lake, hunter was going through something similar to amity, but he was like 4 or 5 plot points behind her in character development. so when amity offers to be friends with him during a time of crisis, he doesn’t take her help and instead doubles down on helping belos. but by thanks to them, hunter has basically completed his “redemption” arc and is fully on the gang’s side. so at this point, when amity offers to cut his hair, he would be comfortable enough to accept her help. it would be a peace offering from hunter as well, accepting amity’s help when he attacked her for it before.

if they had a full season 3 they might have spent an entire b-plot of an episode on just the hair cutting scene. and if amity was the one cutting hunter’s hair, it might even be important enough to their character arcs to be an a-plot, with a few related scenes added. but alas, there are so many other prioritized arcs in the shortened season 3 so we probably won’t get a lot with amity and hunter becoming friends. i certainly wouldn’t want them to focus a whole subplot on it if there’s so much else to tie up. ah well. the hunter-amity reconciliation arc is canon in my heart. and in my ao3 account.

i think the "nice doing business with you" line from the s5 finale is definitely going to have significance to season 6. there are too many examples of innocuous lines that end up being foreshadowing to overlook it. it's also a general rule of genies that they can't bring things back from the dead, so i think that's going to end up playing into whatever the "deal" with ryan was. the genie could've said it was against the rules to bring prof back, so ryan made another deal to get him back (1/2)

[i think there's also going to be a conflict with time travel in season 6. it's such an integral part of the show, and ryan definitely screwed the timeline by bringing prof and his family back. if we hadn't seen the article with the photo of the prof and his parents' fossils, then i would be a little less convinced of this, but because its explicitly shown onscreen, its very likely that something will go wrong with the timeline (2/2)

oh i also think that the substitute survived defenestration, but i think he's going to be a minor antagonist next season. just a nuisance, if you will. like yeah he's still a problem, but there are much bigger fish to fry than a 1'2" puppet hologram with an obsession with murder (3/3)]

i am So. Curious. on how ryan and the genies whole deal is gonna shake out. was that it? will there be consequences? i have a feeling we'll be seeing some kind of fallout from this wish. it feels like they cut their conversation very short for a very specific reason. theres gotta be something going on there.

I think that ryan didnt *technically* wish the professor back to life, he just wished the professor back to the present. i also like the idea used in @ask-the-substitute that ryan used his 3 wishes to bring the professor back and thats how the profs mom and dad got to the present. its so perfect, i love it. just the idea of ryan thinking the first wish didnt work so then he tried again, and again. incredible.

i am curious if there is gonna be any time travel conflict! im not sure what that would look like (my brain kinda melts when it comes to timey wimey bullshit). honestly this is the part im the most unsure of. like theyre probably is consequences, but i dont even know where to start for what that would look like. i still like to think that the article showing the professor's family's bones just faded away like how people in photos did in back to the future.

the substitute ABSOLUTELY survived the defenestration!! watcher hq is one story and im slightly convinced the substitute cant die (unless we go by hot daga hologram logic, in that case you would need a witch and a volcano to kill most holograms [and i dont have a volcano handy])

i hope the substitute turns into either

1) a minor villan thats more annoying/funny then anything.

2) character redemption arc. we really like this funky guy and it would be cool to see him chill out with the stabby stabby. (just a little, he can stabby stabby as a treat)

now it would be REALLY FUNNY if the substitute did ad reads for future seasons Especially for nord vpn and other online security stuff.

i think the bigger fish to fry is gonna be those puppets trapped in the wonderium arena!! we gotta get them outta there and back into their earthly bodies!! how is that gonna happen??? god is asleep, the devil isnt gonna help, and neither is the genie. how the hell do you even get to a purgatory like that? dorthy ruth has moved on even though her husband isnt really dead!!!

what im really curious about for next season is

1) who is gonna be the musical guest. if the professor cant time travel, where is he gonna get his musical talents? will he reuse the substitutes tech to make guests?

2) any new stuff to go with our new professor??

3) are dino mom and dad gonna be involved? casually mentioned? i really hope a guest asks if the professor has a family just so that he can excitedly say "yes!! i do :D"

those are most of my thoughts going into s6! pretty excited to see what next season is going to look like! not sure if its gonna be lore heavy. ill be keeping an eye peeled for any hints 👀 either way, im excited to learn :)

I already loved Leverage, and Leverage: Redemption is just as awesome! Maybe cheating a bit by adding it to the list bc it’s not a completely new thing, but hey the title’s kinda different so it isn’t just another season right? xD

EEAAO, oh my god, no words, watched 3 times and would watch again

The only negative thing I can say about Glass Onion is that I liked Knives Out even better, so it didn’t quite reach that level? But it’s honestly hard to compare the two. Glass Onion was definitely an A++ representation of Dumbass Evil Rich Guys, and the movie was fun to watch!

Look, the 2006 film with Keira Knightley (and Rosamund Pike) is great (because Keira Knightly and Rosamund Pike), so I kept rewatching that, but now that I’ve finally watched the 1995 version I gotta say - it’s better. Like sorry. But it is.

Blues Brothers! I was convinced that I had already watched it and maybe I had as a kid? Didn’t remember anything, and it’s a great film! Glad I finally watched it.

How did I not see this version of the parent trap until now? I love any version of Das Doppelte Lottchen!

Honestly, I don’t remember much about the James Bond except that I didn’t hate it?

Well a happy new year for good old 2024, honestly I think I had a fun time planning stuff for this blog and season 3 plus my new blog, 'despair-to-future-arc' which if curious is a full blown re-write of DR3 and follows the games and fixes up certain characters in DR3 and even Junko (Poor poor Sato, you'll get redemption my dear) along with re-working Future Foundation, Hope's Peak along with the Reserve Course and even adding new characters in there.

Now back to this blog here, well for me - it's had it's ups and downs; mostly for me I think in regards to the ups, I really got to enjoy the musical of AEoM and just all the fun we had writing the story there for a certain SDRA2 character that needed some positive character development that I really didn't like in her canon game and was happen to see the result.

As for the negative; well... I think mostly my issues does come down to pretty much Sunako, her general writing and just how anons were towards her in ASOOT because instead of being a fun experience, it became more of a headache and I think I wish I had more say in regards to Izumi's writing or just re-written her entirely instead of making her openly racist as that doesn't fit with her being a women from Kyoto but instead take a different approach y'know which I plan to do in DTFA. ^^;

Aside from that, I am going to say a happy New Years everyone! - Mod Poi

What character(s) do you find it most difficult to write?

(Sorry for the delay in answering this!)

At the moment? Erik, most definitely. A big problem is that my fic universe is a blend of multiple Phantom canons, so I can't do what I've done in previous fandoms and just watch one version over and over until I have the character's voice and mannerisms clearly imprinted in my head. Plus, since Trio Sonata is a post-canon slow burn/redemption story, I have to find a balance between not glossing over the fact that he's a violent, self-absorbed drama queen who isn't going to change overnight, but also not making him so awful that the other characters (and the audience) can't tolerate him.

The current scene I just finished (a large chunk of the first half of chapter 3) has definitely taken the longest so far. It's partly because my overall writing energy has gone down a bit since the daylight's gotten shorter (curse you, Seasonal Affective Disorder!), but also because it's an extremely important scene that will set up things for the whole rest of the story. It also features a character who I've not only never written before (Philippe de Chagny), but who I'm adapting into my own story universe, so I've been torn between "I need to characterize him acccurately" and "this is my own version, I can do whatever I want".

I've noticed that I've become a bit more self-conscious about how I structure dialogue. There was a writing advice post I came across recently that claimed using the format ["ABC," said Character, "but XYZ."] is too common in fanfic and considered amateurish. I try not to take that kind of advice too much too heart, but I have been making an effort to use more variety in how I set up dialogue. I've also changed up where I do my first drafts: I used to always write them by hand in a notebook first, then transcribing them to the computer would be my editing process, but now I've gotten more comfortable writing on the computer from the beginning.

An excellent question! Unfortunately I don't think there's a lot of room for corn in the two fandoms I'm currently writing in (one is set in northwestern Europe, and the other is on a completely alien planet), but who knows what the future will hold :D

Richie thinks this is probably one of the most pathetic moments of his adult life. Okay so, maybe that’s a jump, but he definitely feels extra pathetic.

He’s not sure how long he’s been standing here, but at this point the cuts of steak are definitely judging him. Hell, if he were a steak looking up at a forty something year old man staring vacantly at hunks of meat, he’d be judging him too.

4. To Everything There is a Season -> aka the midnight mass fic:

Mike isn’t overly fond of the long shooting hours being part of a television series requires, and most especially when he’s asked to stay afterwards. Hard work he likes -the rewards of honest grit never cease to thrill him- but show business is a whole other animal he still isn’t quite prepared to handle. Sure the work is rewarding in its own way, although he often can’t recognize that worth in the minute to minute minutia of the media beast, but if he’d known the kind of schedule he’d be signing up for he might have thought twice about answering that ad.

I was thinking about how due to Tolkien's love of Norse Mythology there are some obvious similarities between Loki and Sauron. That got me thinking about what Norse mythological would fit Galadriel? Obviously, her Christian parallel is the Virgin Mary. After much thought, I think she reminds me of the Vanir goddess Freya ("Lady"). Freya was not only the goddess of beauty and fertility, but also Queen of the Valkyries, and associated with death. She is much of a fierce warrior as she is a divine beauty. She is the Goddess of Magic, specifically, "seidr," a femme-centered magic that involved shamanism, weaving spells, healing, and manipulating fate. Apparently, Freya taught Odin seidr, leading to him having genderfluid aspects, same as Loki. It should also be noted that while physical descriptions of Freya are rare, some scholars have claimed she was supposed to be a blonde (like Gal), redhead, or strawberry blonde. She was definitely noted for her independence, pride, and having a missing husband, Od (possibly an aspect of Odin). She had her own domain and hall, Sessrumnir, resembling how Gal rules Lotherien in her own right. She also had lovers (Haladriel?), and a close relationship with her twin brother, Freyr (reminds me of Finrod).

I've thought about Loki and Sauron being similar (and since I'm also a huge fan of Loki, especially Tom Hiddleston's version) many times!!! 😀 This is going to be a long post but have been meaning to write this at some point. Tolkien was hugely inspired by Norse myth for LOTR and Middle Earth so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Loki was an inspiration for Sauron. Plus, in the myths Loki also had reddish hair and green eyes so there's a connection between that and "Rings of Power" with the Halbrand form of Sauron. LOL 😏 Marvel too has added so much to Loki in both the comics and the MCU. I realized watching the "Loki" series and the films that he's gotten the redemption arc that many of us have given Halbrand/Sauron in our fics and I'm even more excited for tonight's season 2 finale of "Loki" and what might be coming for the films. It seems like what I wish could happen for Halbrand/Sauron is happening with Loki, including a Haladriel like ship with Loki and Sylvie.

That's a great comparison for Galadriel too. She does fit a lot with Freya. I've read multiple versions of Norse myth, especially Neil Gaiman's and Tolkien wrote his own too which I plan to read soon, and I can see it. Will point out too there's long been a theory in Norse myth that Freya and Frigg (Frigga in Marvel) are the same person and she had a split personality with each version. Frigg is Odin's wife (and Thor and Loki's mom in Marvel) and that queenly part of her fits there too.

Also I feel like Galadriel could also be a mashup of both of Loki's wives. His first wife Angrboda was a Jotun (frost giant in Marvel), a power being that Loki was also half as he was also half Asgardian. Angrboda is also a powerful witch and was the mother of Loki's 3 oldest children: Fenris the Wolf, Jorm the world serpent, and Hela the goddess of Hel (played by Cate Blanchett, the other Galadriel in the MCU but switched to be Odin's daughter and Thor and Loki's sister). When Loki became a god and joined Odin he left them to start his new life and their marriage ended.

Then his 2nd wife Sigyn is actually who I normally ship Loki with both in Norse mythology and Marvel (except the MCU as it seems like they merged his wives and his other Marvel love interest Amora/Enchantress into Sylvie as a mashup character even though Sylvie is also another universe's Loki LOL). Sigyn is normally drawn as being a blonde or red haired Asguardian and she's devoted to him even though in Marvel Comics' version he tricked her into marrying him by pretending to be her fiancé and she still fell in love with him after that. LOL (And I've seen Haladriel fics with this exact storyline.) She ends up becoming the Goddess of Fidelity to his God of Mischief (or Stories as he becomes this redemptive form in Marvel and maybe soon in the MCU depending on tonight's finale and it reminds me of Mairon). In the Marvel comics he also teaches her to become a sorceress. They also have two sons together though depending on the story one or both die tragically (which reminds me of Celebrian), and one is a werewolf.

So yeah I see so much of Norse mythology in Tolkien's work and it's fun to piece all the inspirations together like this. Plus, I'm getting 3 new romance and non-romance novels about Loki with Angrboda, Sigyn, and Amora soon and whatever that new Marvel novel out next year "What if Loki was Worthy?" too so more to read and compare soon.

ETA: I've taken out the tags that relate to Loki and the other Norse mythology characters as I got hate directed towards me from fellow "Loki" fans all because a lot of them don't like what Marvel and the show has done. Just wanted it to go in my blog's tags so it's easier to find and organized but kept the "ROP" related tags since we were talking about that originally as it relates more to Sauron and Galadriel.

it's come to my attention that there may be some misunderstanding around the url withoutawar. it's in reference to when ultron calls steve, ' god's righteous man, pretending you could live without a war. ' and what steve says to tony at the end of the movie, ‘ family, stability ? the guy who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. i think someone else came out. ’ pair this with peggy telling steve that she has lived a life, and her only regret is that he didn’t get to live his is interpreted on this blog as steve taking a step forward in moving on from his lost past ( because up until that point, he was a man out of time. ) 

it is not in reference to steve passing on the shield and supposedly retiring ( fanon ), getting trapped in and / or returning to the past ( au. ) on this blog he doesn't actually retire. returning the stones is his final act as captain america. what he sees on the journey, glimpses of time that he missed / could have had, glimpses of worlds beyond his imagination . . . it certainly puts things into perspective but it's not enough for steve to disappear from the world, to not be there when there's the smallest possibility he might be needed. his past, and what his future could have been will always be there to taunt him - we see that first hand when he freezes when he sees peggy in the 1970s retrieving the extra pym particles. 

steve struggling  with what he’s going to do with himself is not a cap issue, it's a steve issue because it started before the serum. it started when he was the smallest kid in class and couldn't protect himself or others from the bullies. it continued when he was older and couldn't help his sick mother put away groceries because the flu that season hit him harder than her. it manifested when every other man was either volunteering or being drafted into the war and he viewed his illnesses as a get out of jail free card. the notion of ' going home after the war ' is stripped from him the minute he takes the serum and instead of america ' getting an army, all they got was him. '

now that is childhood trauma on top of the expectations he placed on himself after the serum that he has to overcome to even feel like he deserves to have a break, or a life outside of being of service. he hasn't even thought about it come 2-3 years out of the ice. 4 years later, tony actually has to remind him that the reason they fight is so they can go home afterwards and steve's like a home ??? what is that. he says he’s home gazing off at the avengers compound. and maybe it can be interpreted that he means he’s home in this ‘ time ’ now, which is another hurdle he had to overcome. i strongly believe this was a turning point for him. he had 5 years to think about it after thanos fucked the world in half --- but losing to thanos only added to that hatred of feeling helpless and honestly, left him with more issues despite giving him the opportunity in the form of time to heal.

steve has many struggles but this blog does predominantly ( at least current phase ) explore the obligation steve feels to serve the world because of the gift he was given in the form of the serum, how the serum itself is like any other power e.g. thor's lightning, tony's armour but because it physically makes steve up he cannot separate himself from it, and he cannot separate himself from his service to his country and the world. there will need to be a shift in the way he views himself, the way he talks and treats himself, the way he views the serum, and a drastic shift in his priorities for him to ever not serve ( even though the definition of that has varied through the years. ) endgame was bogus for a lot of reasons but the number 1 reason is that they didn't provide us with when or why that shift happened.

people argue that steve and / or cap is a boring character because he’s apparently a fully fledged good man  straight out of the womb, whereas the traditional journey a lot of other characters take is redemption, or finding themselves etc. this doesn’t apply to steve, as much, but he does still have a lot of growing to do, and because we were robbed of that in what should have been the 3rd cap movie . . . i explore that on this blog. i’m not turning down the possibility of steve eventually learned to put down the fight, but that it needs to come through plot / verse exploration and i’m down to figure it out.

OUAT Observation

I want to conduct an experiment and list every major character (so important characters to the plot and/or characters whose actors had “Regular” status) who dropped out of the show, and then see how often they were referenced again or appeared again in any capacity.

Graham Humbert/The Hunstman: Wow. Following 1x08, the episode after his death, Graham was never mentioned again for the remainder of the season, and only showed up briefly in the finale as the Huntsman in a flashback. He fares no better in the later seasons, only getting one flashback appearance in 2x17 and one offhand mention from Emma in 4x03. I’m inclined to believe this is because of how awkward it would make Regina’s redemption if the circumstances behind his death were ever revealed, but it seems ridiculous given that Emma wouldn’t have her position as Sheriff of Storybrooke if not for him. He deserved better.

August W. Booth/Pinocchio: After Season 2, August received no mention in Season 3. He then showed up again and played an important role in Season 4B, only to go without mention once more in Season 5. He then appeared in back-to-back episodes 6x11 and 6x12, then disappeared for the remainder of the show. Maybe he should’ve stayed gone the first time...

Albert Spencer/King George: Following his arrest in 2x07, he received mention in the flashbacks of 2x10 and 2x20 and appeared in the flashback of 2x13. Otherwise, he only got mentioned in the Season 3 finale and briefly in 5x15, and only ever appeared again in 6x12.

Cora Mills/The Queen of Hearts: Cora died in 2x16, but was still constantly referenced by other characters for the remainder of the season. She then showed up in the flashback of OUATIW’s 11th episode, referenced throughout Season 3B and even appeared both in flashback form and as a ghost in 3x18, was mentioned occasionally throughout Seasons 4 through 6, showed up in the flashback of 4x20, and appeared in 5x12 and 5x19 where her character was definitively sent off. Despite all of this, Season 7 only referenced her twice, in 7x06 and 7x11, adding to the feeling of disconnect that season had to the rest of the show.

Ruby Lucas/Red Riding Hood: After just up and disappearing following 2x17, Ruby had mentions in 3x07 and 3x09, and then in 3x11 there was often an open slot in crowd shots where you swear she was meant to be digitally inserted in but wasn’t for some reason. Then in 3x12 she really was digitally inserted into a crowd shot, then had a brief cameo in 3x13. A waitress that was possibly her is seen from the backside in 3x17, then she played a major role in the two-part season finale. Following this, she disappeared again only to resurface in 5x09, which explained her disappearance and was later followed by her send-off in 5x18. Megan Ory is great, but her character was more important and should’ve just been recast.

Malcolm/Peter Pan: Pan was mentioned quite a lot following his demise in 3x11; coming up in 3x15, 3x16, 3x17, 3x20 and 3x21. He wasn’t mentioned much afterward in Season 4 and the first half of Season 5, only to then return in a major recurring role in 5B across 5x12, 5x14 (voice only), 5x17 (visual cue), 5x19 and 5x20, and given mention in 5x23. In Season 6, he was referenced in 6x11, 6x16 and 6x17, and appeared in his adult form in 6x19′s flashback. His Wish Realm counterpart appears in 7x21, mainly as fanservice since he does nothing.

Neal Cassady/Baelfire: Given that this character was a major driving force across the first three seasons of the show, it’s understandable he was referenced a lot afterward; in 4x01, 4x03, 4x04, 4x05, 4x08, 4x17, 4x20, 4x21, 4x22, 5x03, 5x05, 5x06, 5x08, 5x10, 5x11, 5x16, 5x20, 5x22, 5x23, 6x01, 6x06, 6x08, 6x09, 6x10, 6x11, 6x12, 6x17, 6x19 and 6x22. He also appeared in person in 5x12, and in the flashbacks of 5x14 and 6x13. In Season 7, however, he was only off-handedly mentioned in 7x04, 7x09 and 7x21. There’s that disconnect again!

Ingrid/The Snow Queen: Following Season 4A where she was the Big Bad, Ingrid is only mentioned in 4x12, 4x19, and 5x02. Ultimately, she didn’t really leave much of an impact.

Elsa: 4x15. That is the first and last time Elsa was mentioned beyond Season 4A.

Maleficent: Despite Season 4B building her up as a major permanent presence in Storybrooke going forward, Maleficent was never seen again afterward. She received mention in 5x02, 5x09, 6x21, and 7x16....and none of these refer to her directly by name.

Lily Page: In one of the most notorious instances of a character receiving a lot of build-up for being important and then just disappearing without closure, Lily was never seen again after Season 4, the season that introduced her and built her up, and she was only mentioned in the final episode, 7x22, with her dangling plot thread reduced to a joke. (Seriously? Zorro!?)

Will Scarlet: In another one of the most notorious instances of a character receiving a lot of build-up for being important and then just disappearing without closure, Will literally dropped off the face of the Earth without further mention after Season 4. As a result, everyone has come to agree that OUATIW takes place after Season 4 rather than before as was planned, as this perfectly explains his sudden disappearance without contradicting any hard facts.

Isaac Heller: While the position of the Author remained important, the prior Author himself wasn’t spoken of again following his arrest in the Season 4 finale and subsequent 5x01 until reappearing in 6x16 where he was let out of jail in exchange for revealing a major plot point. 

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: Following his death in 5x01, we see him in 5x07′s flashback and in the Underworld in 5x15, plus hear references to him in 5x05, 5x06, 5x11 and 5x13. Additionally, his Wish Realm counterpart appears in 7x21 and gets to play a significant role.

Merlin: He dies in 5x10, and then is referenced in 5x13, 5x15, 5x17, 5x23, 6x08, 6x16, 6x18, 7x01 and 7x21. But here’s the thing: all but one of those (5x17) has him referenced as “the Sorcerer” rather than by name and is generally tying in with Henry’s position as the Author. This gets me asking...in the end, what was the point of the Sorcerer being Merlin? Why not just make the Apprentice the Sorcerer, given that he ends up with a more lasting presence? No wonder Elliot Knight was pissed off after leaving the show; his character got screwed!

Violet Morgan: Despite being Henry’s first girlfriend and a recurring character in Seasons 5 and 6 (and an adorable one, at that!), Violet only receives an offhanded mention in 7x20. 

Hades: The Big Bad of Season 5B only gets brought up in 6x01 and 6x18 afterward.

Robin Hood: While dying in 5x21, Robin still gets brought up in the two-part season finale, and then in 6x01, 6x09, 6x10, 6x11, 6x12, 6x13, 6x14, 6x18, 7x10, 7x11, and 7x14. His spirit makes an appearance in 7x21, while his Wish Realm counterpart appears in 6x10 through 6x14 and has a brief voiceover in 6x22. And so his legacy, however dubious, was honored.

Mr. Hyde: Remember in the Season 5 finale, where it looked like he was going to be a major villain going forward? Well, after dying in 6x04, he only gets mentioned in 6x05, 6x06 and 6x09. He ultimately ended up being as pointless as the Land of Untold Stories he came from.

Gideon: Despite so much of Seasons 5B and 6 being dedicated to this fucker, he only appears in 7x04 and is mentioned briefly in 7x18. The disconnect...it’s so disconnecting!

Fiona/The Black Fairy: She is never referenced in Season 7 at all. Yes, really. The villain that A&E hyped up as the Ultimate Evil, the creator of the Dark Curse who was thus billed as the one behind almost everything that went wrong in the show...and she is totally forgotten.

Belle: While she dies in 7x04, the show never lets you forget about her as she is now Rumple’s primary motivation and thus comes up in 7x06, 7x08, 7x09, 7x15, 7x17, 7x18, 7x20, 7x21 and 7x22, the last of which also having her appear one final time in spirit form. Given that she wasn’t initially meant to be a major character and the writers clearly gave up on making her interesting by the end, it’s bizarre that so much of the final season and Rumple’s characterization ends up being built around the memory of her. It just feels off.

Victoria Belfrey/Rapunzel Tremaine: After perishing in 7x11, she is brought up again in 7x12, 7x13, 7x14, 7x15 and 7x20...although all things considered, I wish that she wasn’t.

Ivy Belfrey/Drizella Tremaine: After she leaves in 7x15, she’s mentioned in 7x16 and 7x18.

Nick Branson/Jack/Hansel: He gets brought up again in the episodes following his death...and then isn’t at all in the two-part series finale, because really, who cares about this guy?

Every issue i have with season 3

Putting under the cut because this is a Rant and i will be angry and critical and I know not everyone likes that.

also LMK S3 spoilers below...obviously.

Even after sleeping on it though, I realize how much some decisions of season 3 have really irked me.

1st thing being the samadhi fire and how they handled it as a whole. Now I’m not too pissy over the fact they changed the backstory for it, Monkie kid is kind of notorious for not following journey to the west for to a T but the way they handle the fire DOES kind of leave a ton of questions continuity wise. Like how in season 2 Tang DOES mention Red son’s original story but if the Samadhi fire was taken from him then that story shouldn’t exist....and if it was before the fire way taken then by the shows logic the dumping of an entire ocean shouldn’t of extinguished it - because the fact is that the fire CAN be extinguished, it just took an entire ocean to do it. Because in the book the fire is a blue flame that cannot be put out by water and instead gets strengthened from it and can travel OVER the top of water. but i digress this is more of a pet peeve.

The main issue i have with the Samadhi fire is actually who they gave it to... which was Mei. My first issue with them giving it to Mei is that 1. it felt like they HAD to change the Samadhi fire’s entire origin for it to make sense and it felt like a forced change because they realized it wouldn’t fit what they wanted to end up happening. second issue is that they LITERALLY TOOK RED SONS THING AND GAVE IT TO ANOTHER CHARACTER???? Red son was right there, they legit could’ve just used him but instead they bent over backwards to make it MEI????  Like literally Red son’s whole story in journey to the west is that he forged the samadhi fire over YEARS and YEARS of perfecting and training his fire abilities and is the ONLY ONE to wield it and they TOOK THAT AWAY FROM HIM??? 3rd is.... what’s even the deal with her having it? her grandpa held it so now she holds it too??? did her parents both have the ability to be the ring to or does that pass down once they have a kid? WHY DID THE FAMILY JUST NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS???

Literally if they wanted Mei to do something cool they could’ve done a billion other things but instead they decided to give her an extremely powerful fire which now is like.... nice she was a dragon before but now she’s gonna be super OP with dragon AND samadhi fire....if she knows to control it now then how will anything be a threat ever with how strong they made that fire?

2nd big issue: This season did not feel like it was about MK and it was frustrating that he didn’t actually get focused on in what is HIS OWN SHOW??? We never got to see him fully get back his powers, in fact we only saw shrinking, gold vision, shapeshifting, AND A SINGLE CLONE APPEARED BUT NO EXPLANATION ON HOW PARTY CLONE EVEN FUCKING GOT THERE? Now i can get if they didn’t want MK to be a focus but it felt like they were trying to make him a focus along with everyone else, which doesn’t work in a 10 episode span (and no u cant tell me he was the focus of the 4 specials because HE WAS NOT.  THAT WAS ALL MEI)

Idk i think with the vision we saw of him from lady bone demon in season 2 you think something more was planned for his character but ig the team forgot about him exploding into blue flames in those visions... I just feel like they had planned more  but then switched it around on us.

another issue is Macaque. ohhh Macaque.... idk i think them bringing up that YES HE DID DIE IN JTTW and his connection to the bone demon like that was interesting. i have no issues withthat. ITS THE ONE LINE THAT TANG SAYS ABOUT REDEMPTION THAT GETS ME. MACAQUE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LABELED AS REDEEMED. I’m sorry but i’m firmly of the belief that he has literally done too much to be redeemed simply because he helped the group ONCE to fight a greater evil. that is not redemption. can it be the START to redemption? definitely. but they just kind of.... added him to the group as a friend as if he wasn’t trying to kill and traumatize MK for 3 entire seasons. also the group being like “oh we know you aren’t in it for yourself” was stupid because Macaque has ONLY been shown to be in itt for himself and we just have to be told that “no guys look he really isn't” and then are not shown it or even hinted at that being the case anytime before that? right. That just comes off as sloppy writing to try fulfill either fan desire or they are rushing characters to points they want them to be.

Overall this season felt like it was poorly written and rushed beyond belief and part of me knows it was because they are on a 10 episode season model but also all previous seasons did just fine on a 10 episode model - so why does this one feel so BAD? It felt like they were trying to shove too much into one season that it felt like it jumped around with no real idea of WHERE or WHAT they wanted to focus on and would have to twist things to work in their favor instead of just...going the simple route. it just... it didn’t feel like monkie kid if that makes sense. this season doesn’t feel like a monkie kid season. this doesn’t feel like the last two and ik the stakes are higher but...it still should’ve felt like monkie kid. it shouldn’t be leaving me feeling like i didn’t watch monkie kid.

 i feel like maybe if they had more episodes then maybe some things could’ve been fix but i think the main issue is in the story decisions that the team decided to go in that just...really ruined this season for me.

and like... i love this show. i adore it. it’s my biggest hyperfixation and is so dear to me...so to have it be so disappointing really sucks. because my brain just can’t stop thinking about how disappointed i am over the season.

and maybe I’m way off the mark. I know this is 100% my opinion and are my issues alone with this season and maybe i’m analyzing my issues wrong but they are still my issues. I didn’t go into this season planning to be disappointed. i looked at the season with high hopes and excitement that just...got killed off. a show shouldn’t do that.
