Currently feeling a bit feral over the fact that Natalia means Christmas Day - as in the birth of Jesus Christ and Bucks story is so heavily leaning into the birth death and resurrection of Christ - the saviour - as a central part of his narrative arc. Her presence is literally about the birth of buck - as in processing his grief about why he was born - as a saviour baby.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
November 27th - Legion
David Haller is the son of Professor Charles Xavier (founder of the X-Men) and Gabrielle Haller (an Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom). Charles and Gabrielle had an affair in Israel nearly two decades ago, and Charles was unaware when he left that Haller was pregnant with his son. Haller concealed the fact that Charles was the father of her son, David, and Charles himself only learned that he was David's father some time after founding the New Mutants. David was born a Mutant possessing tremendous psychic abilities.
Gabrielle Haller married Daniel Shomron when David was a child and the family relocated to Paris.  Their home was attacked by a group of terrorists who shot and killed David’s stepfather in front of him.  The shock of having witnessed this awoke David’s telepathic powers and he instinctively released a psychic shock that killed the attackers, frying their brains.  Unfortunately, David experienced each of these deaths through empathic connection and it left him in a catatonic state.
The trauma acted to fragment David’s mind.  He cultivated countless alternate personalities as seen in cases of Dissociative Identity Disorder.  One of these personalities was based on the leader of the terrorists who had attacked him, a man named Karami.  The recreation of Karami that David generated was so fulsome as to truly believe itself to be the real Karami trapped within the young man’s mind.
As a teenager, David recovered from his catatonia but remained highly disoriented as the various personalities in his mind jockeyed for control.  This led him to be misidentified as suffering from a severe type of autism.
David ended up in the care of Dr. Moria MacTaggart on Muir Island.  Dr. MacTaggart identified David as Charles Xavier’s biological son and correctly diagnosed him as experiencing dissociative identity disorder significantly compounded by his psychic powers.  Herein David began referring to himself as ‘Legion’ based on the Biblical passage from the Book of Mark.
As Legion, David would go on to have many adventures.  Although he possessed a host of highly formidable psychic powers, his ability to use them were frequently hampered or misused by various alternate personalities periodically taking over.
David’s great power, coupled with the fragile state of his psyche, attracted the attention of the psychic villain, Amahl Farouk, also known as the Shadow King.  Farouk’s original body had been killed in conflict with Charles Xavier, but his mind remained on the astral plain and he targeted David as a means of obtaining great power, regaining physical form and taking revenge on Xavier.
Once possessed by The Shadow King, Legion became an adversary to the X-Men and it took all their might to defeat him.  David fought back and ultimately purged himself of Farouk, but it resulted in his being rendered entirely comatose.
The Mutant precognitive known as Destiny had been killed by The Shadow King whist in possession of David’s body.  In the process, David manifested a recreation of Destiny’s psyche who became yet another of the countless personalities populating his mind.  This version of Destiny convinced David that his father’s dream of peace between Mutants and humans would have come to fruition had it not been for the actions of Xavier’s frequent rival and fellow Mutant, Magneto.
The certainty of this shocked David free from his coma and he used his powers to travel back in time in an effort to assassinate Magneto so that his father could fulfill his dream.  The effort went awry as the younger Xavier triued to save Magneto from David and was himself unintentionally killed.  Xavier’s death in the past created a hellish alternate reality in the present where most of humanity had been killed by Mutants and the planet was ruled by the menace known Apocalypse; and the world’s only hope were a band of rebel X-Men led by a now heroic Magneto.
The time-traveling Mutant, Bishop, was able to determine how this all came about he traveled back into the past to put things right.  Bishop was able to prevent Xavier’s assassination and David was seemingly destroyed, resulting in reality reverting back to how it was prior to this Age of Apocalypse.
David would eventually return and embarked on further adventures, on his own, at the side of the X-Men and accompanied by his girlfriend, the young Mutant precognitive the known as Blindfold.  Following the creation of the Mutant nation of Krakoa, David was captured by the villainous organization, Orchis.  The young man was killed and dissected in the hopes of finding a way to defend against Mutant psychics.  With he nature of his power, however, David found that he no longer needed a corporal form.  Legion still existed on the astral plain perhaps now more powerful than ever.
A version of David Haller featured in the FX television series, Legion, portrayed by Dan Stevens.  The trouble young hero first appeared in the pages of  New Mutants Vol. 1 #25 (1984).

what's your theory on modern-day loumand, the state/dynamic of their relationship? obvs we can't take the 'love of my life' thing at face value, something's off. it looks to me like armand's altering louis' mood at times, kinda mentally 'sedating' him when he gets agitated, and i buy the idea that he's altered key areas of louis' memory too, though not with bad intentions per se. I don't think louis is a prisoner or that he's being forced into the interview, but the vibe's still very off.
Hey nonny! Ok, so... for that I need to expand on my thoughts a bit I think. Because imho it depends heavily on where we are in Modern Dubai.
So. Neither the Mayfair Witches, nor the Vampire Chronicles can do without the Talamasca (for a lot of reasons), and MF has already introduced Ciprien Grieve. For that reason alone, and the fact that Rolin Jones has mentioned TtotBT, I think David has to be... somewhere. (In fact one of the servants was given an explicit shot and that actor would fit well with the description. Just... an idea though.) We see Armand on the phone in the last episode, telling someone "not long now". I believe he refers to the interview, because most of what Louis may have wanted to tell is told (what Daniel now drags out of him may be a different story). Louis called the reason for the interview "truth and reconciliation" in episode 1... however that's probably only a part of it, and might not even refer to the interview itself. Season 2 will most certainly include some kind of... version (memory/reference/revival/resurrection) of the Devil's Minion (imho). And of course Paris, but there was this comment that season 2 would be a lot of "sitting and talking".
Back to David. David is a Candomble Priest in the books, and yes, he can conjure spirits, and use spells after turning. I don't think they actually need Merrick as a character for the story. In the book Merrick Louis wants to see Claudia's ghost. I talked about it why I think it fits so well, but this setting also pays a lot into a mixed Trinity Gate / St. Elisabeths / post Rue Royale setup.
Because after Merrick, the Talamasca make Lestat, David, Louis (and Merrick) leave Rue Royale.
Now, if you only twinge that setting just a bit, and mix it with the hideaways Armand creates with Louis while they live together for a long time... voilà. Imho.
And that, in return, says a lot about their relationship.
Louis and Armand have... settled. Lestat is somewhere in a coma. David and Louis are nice to each other, but David could never be anything Louis really needs. (I think it's David Armand is on the phone with). Louis is suffering, still, always, tortured by everything that happened. Armand is very aware that Louis is suicidal (and he addresses that, in the show), and that is why he says to David that he thinks Louis will try soon.
The time with Armand has dampened the pain somewhat, but with everything that's happened in the meantime... it just doesn't go away. Armand tries to alleviate the burden in his own... errr special way. Better to have Louis angry at Lestat than yearning, right. Better to feel the attempt to kill him was justified than not. Better to feel that he was right to escape. Better to feel that escaping feel good, than... not. Better to make Claudia seem cruel at times, than to make it hurt even worse than it already does. Better to make Louis calm down than let the pain break out.
I think there is a lot of love between Armand and Louis in Modern Dubai. I do think that Louis has forgiven Armand most of it (though he probably harbors some dark thoughts/feelings still)... there's one of Marius' paintings on the wall, there has been some kind of reconciliation, and so Louis got to know quite a lot as well, if only through the blood. The comment re the love of his life... that was for Daniel. Because Louis is trying to reconcile Armand and Daniel, imho. And no, I don't think Louis is a prisoner either. He is hiding away, away from the world. He is withdrawing. Dictating his will, his testament.
:)
All this to say... I think Louis and Armand really care for each other a lot. Louis tries to reconcile Armand and Daniel, because he does intend to commit suicide, as Armand has hinted at. And Armand... actually tries to protect him. And doesn't quite know how.

I was just reading your anon ask stating Eddie is now an angry guy and failed parent subconsciously in Buck's mind and I just have to add: Anon, where do you get that from the writing of last night's episode?
Things were not right in Buck's coma AU dream, they set that out from the very beginning. First we get Daniel alive, then we get Maddie back with Doug, Buck's parents being proud and accepting of him (only because Daniel survived and Buck did what he was created to do; and without them going through the development they went through in the real world so it's actually not healthy for Buck or his relationship with them), Chim and Hen not knowing who Buck is, Christopher not with Eddie, Eddie having lost custody to his parents, Bobby being dead (but also a manifestation that was looking for the next substance to abuse while talking to Buck), and then Buck finally facing himself.
The whole dream was MEANT to be off. That is why Buck works with Chim and Hen to figure it out, why he listens to Bobby, why he literally takes an axe and breaks his way out of there. The dialogue even states that the life he's in inside the coma dream is not the right life, he might think it's nice because his parents accepted him from the beginning in this one, but it's not due to everything else being out of sorts, like Maddie and Doug for example, and Buck quickly realizes that.
Now, saying that, it makes sense that if Eddie lost custody of Christopher (which, again, ties into Buck's whole narrative this season about kids and actually links him and Eddie together and intertwines their stories even more, romantically or not), he would be devastated. Eddie did have an issue with his anger until last season, where we saw him working to process his trauma. Back in 3x15 (Eddie Begins), we saw in the flashbacks how angry he got when his parents gave him veiled threats and insinuated how he couldn't care for Christopher on his own. It was understandable but it was still there. Buck was on the receiving end of Eddie's anger back in 3x05 and even 3x06. It was understandable due to the situation at the time (the lawsuit) but still it was present. Then we saw Eddie choosing a way to deal with his anger at Shannon's passing, Buck's abandonment, as well as trauma piled on top of trauma that he had, and that was fighting. We saw how that ended. In 3x06 and 3x08, Buck knows something is up with Eddie but the latter dodges the questions or refuses to answer. In 3x09, Buck now knows what Eddie was doing and even says as much. My point being, Buck knows not only what Eddie experienced during that part of Eddie's arc that season but also most likely has been privy to what Eddie's feelings were at the time back during the events of Eddie Begins when it comes to Christopher. It's sort of implied that there's a conversation to be had (if it hasn't happened already) in 4x14 when Eddie mentions the will to Buck.
Since Buck's subconscious took center stage this episode, it makes sense that this "anger" comes into play. Because Maddie was with Doug and still being abused (which should have been the big giveaway for the audience as a whole that not all was right in the world besides Daniel's being alive), and because of how closely connected Eddie's and Buck's stories now are (meaning their Begins episodes as well as events and callbacks to their arcs in the seasons the Begins episodes take place), it is no coincidence that the writers chose for that to be the coma AU version of Eddie. A world where the Diaz parents did as they threatened and took Christopher away from him. Buck being the legal guardian to step in should something ever happen to Eddie, he knows the Diazes are the ones he would have to go up against in order to fight for Christopher. So it makes sense that not only is Christopher in his dream, looking for his dad, but also this event has taken place the way it has: Eddie losing Christopher and his anger taking center stage. In no way does this mean that this is how Buck views him (or as a "failed parent") or that the show is keeping Eddie down as a character or anything other of these types of takes I've read recently.
This episode was meant to be about Buck, to get him to Buck 4.0, and have him go through some major character development. The same as they did with Eddie last season. The way we've watched other characters such as Bobby, Athena, May, Chim, Maddie, and the rest go through it as well. That is what this show primarily focuses on besides the emergencies and humor sprinkled in: the emotional foundation of these characters and these relationships.
While I tend to ship Buddie myself, I can appreciate each character's separate journeys to get them to their arcs' endgame. I was very happy for Buck last night and extremely proud of him. I thought the writers actually handled this particular part of his emotional development quite well, and that's coming from someone who has been incredibly critical of KR ever since she took over from Tim. Lyndsey is a great writer and JCC set her up very nicely in the last episode (he's also amazing as we all know) to bring this home.
Not once did I feel that Eddie was diminished or disappeared from the narrative on purpose. For me, had Buck not asked where Eddie was or had Eddie not been mentioned at all, then I might have given it the side eye. But, Buck being in character and because Eddie is important to him, he DID ask. Whatever reason they chose for Eddie not to appear physically inside the dream, for me, it didn't feel as if there was this big hole in the plot or the show by them making that choice. Christopher will always come first to Buck, that's no secret. He may not be Buck's son biologically, but he and Buck are incredibly close and Christopher was the one to call Buck when Eddie had his breakdown and Buck was who he ran to when he found out Eddie was dating someone. Buck is his second dad (even without any Buddie/romantic connotations that statement might imply). They could have had Christopher ask Buck why he was leaving, not ask him where his dad was. Ryan may not have been present for those scenes, but they very much kept Eddie in the narrative.
And sure enough, we saw Buck reunited with his 118 fam, Christopher, Eddie, and his bio fam. If he truly felt that way about Eddie, do you think we would see him happy to see Eddie along with everyone else? That if he really thought deep down that Eddie was a failed parent, that he wouldn't talk to Eddie about it or even possibly fight for Christopher? What Buck saw in his coma dream (and I remind you, he did not SEE Eddie for a reason) was not real and it was not right. Just like he didn't see Chim meeting Maddie in the dream.
Tldr; Buck does not secretly think that Eddie is an angry guy or that he's a failed parent. That was a story device to not only include Eddie in the narrative but also to connect these two guys' Begins arcs as well as their journeys in the show. While there are many they now have, Christopher is still that main link between them. Buck and Eddie's friendship/family-ship is just fine, and Buck does not think anything bad about Eddie.
Sorry, op, hope you don't mind that I added this and sent it to you.
Please, no sorry for this at all! I really appreciated it. You are way more eloquent and precise than I could be.
This is all so right. I have issues when Eddie is reduced to angry man in fanfic and have said as much plenty but that didn't happen here.
Eddie's struggle with toxic masculinity and the 'suck it up worse things have happened' mentality right through to now, Eddie who can cry in front of others and be more open about how he's feeling as been a huge arc. Buck wasn't the sole on responsible but he and Bobby helped Eddie get all the tools he needed to do it for himself.
Thank you so much for coming into my asks and sharing. I loved reading it.

So I watched LUCIDS 1-4 without any prior knowledge...
and here were my thoughts. I didn’t watch any backstory or anything so enjoy my suffering.
PART 1
“So what happens when the people inside of their dreams go to sleep?” They die
“What happens when we wake up? Do they go on living while we’re not there?” THEY DIE-
“Who are they anyway?” they’re faces that our brain catalogs and stores for later use, although it’s also arguable that every time we dream we go to an alternate reality and inhabit the body of another version of ourselves. Now, were you in a car accident and trapped underwater or-

Best New Horror Movies on Netflix: Winter 2018
Tumblr media
There’s an overwhelming amount of horror films and TV shows to sift through on Netflix, so I’ve decided to take out some of the legwork by compiling a list of the season’s best new genre titles available on Netflix’s instant streaming service.
Please feel free to leave a comment with any I may have missed and share your thoughts on the films you watch. You can also peruse past installments of Best New Horror Moves on Netflix for more suggestions.
Tumblr media
1. The Haunting of Hill House
The Haunting of Hill House is, quite simply, some of the best long-form horror storytelling of all time. Based on - but not a strict adaptation of - Shirley Jackson's influential gothic horror novel of the same name, the series is created and directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil). Told through two timelines, with clever transitions between the past and present, the story concerns five siblings and how an alleged haunting they experienced as kids affects them as adults. The cast includes Henry Thomas (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), Carla Gugino (Watchmen), Michiel Huisman (Treme), Elizabeth Reaser (Ouija: Origin of Evil), Kate Siegel (Hush), Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), and Lulu Wilson (Annabelle: Creation). It is admirably character-driven, which makes the horror elements hit even harder, and a spooky atmosphere is present throughout all 10 episodes.
Tumblr media
2. Green Room
Writer-director Jeremy Saulnier achieves the impossible by matching - and perhaps even surpassing - the unbridled intensity of his previous film, Blue Ruin, with Green Room. The exercise in white-knuckle suspense finds a scrappy punk band trapped in a skinhead club after unwittingly walking in on a crime. The late Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) delivers one of the best performances of his tragically short career as the de facto leader of the band. In a bit of inspired casting, Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation) is chilling as the conniving, white supremacist venue owner. Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Joe Cole (Skins), and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) round out the band, while Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later) is also wrapped up in the brutal fight for survival. Akin to Don't Breathe, the tension on screen is enough to induce anxiety, and Saulnier nails the punk rock DIY spirit to boot.
Tumblr media
3. Cam
Cam stars Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid's Tale) as a cam girl - one who performs pornographic acts live on camera for paying viewers - who is desperate to gain popularity. Produced by Blumhouse, this is not your typical "seedy underbelly of the sex industry" movie, although there is some of that; instead, it goes in a refreshing, unpredictable direction. Reminiscent of a neon-soaked episode of Black Mirror, Cam is a suspenseful and compelling mystery-thriller with a sci-fi twist and horror undertones. Brewer is spectacular in her fearless performance, while director Daniel Goldhaber makes a powerful feature debut.
Tumblr media
4. The Night Comes for Us
The Night Comes for Us is an unrelenting action thriller in the vein of The Raid, John Wick, and Dredd. In fact, the Indonesian film reunites The Raid's Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais. Taslim leads as a man who goes rogue from a dangerous crime syndicate. A variety of deadly individuals (Uwais among them) are out to get him, but he has some tough allies as well. It all culminates in an incredible final battle in which the viewer feels every blow. The blend of brutal, graphic violence and impressively choreographed fight scenes is written and directed by by Timo Tjahjanto (whose V/H/S/2 segment is a highlight of the franchise).
Tumblr media
5. Apostle
Forget that Nicolas Cage abomination; Apostle is the Wicker Man reboot we deserve. The Netflix original film is reminiscent of the 1973 occult horror classic not only in plot but also in tone, style, and pacing. Set in 1905 London, a feral Dan Stevens (The Guest) stars as a man whose sister is kidnapped by a religious cult on a secluded island, which he must infiltrate to save her. Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) serves as the cult's charismatic leader, while Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) plays his daughter. The slow-burn is quite a change of pace for writer-director Gareth Evans (The Raid franchise) and his regular cinematographer, Matt Flannery, but they handle it beautifully.
Tumblr media
6. May the Devil Take You
May the Devil Take You feels like The Evil Dead's Sam Raimi directing an installment in The Conjuring universe. The Indonesian horror film is not a scrappy splatterfest; it's elegantly directed by Timo Tjahjanto (V/H/S/2). He culls from modern supernatural tropes to craft fine horror set pieces, spooky imagery, a good atmosphere, and strong production value. Chelsea Islan (Headshot) earns to be mentioned in the same breath as Bruce Campbell in her lead role as a daughter who investigates her estranged father's past to uncover the truth behind his coma and her haunting visions. It's a tad overlong at 110 minutes, which is particularly felt during the last act, but there's enough kinetic energy to keep it moving forward.
Tumblr media
7. Hold the Dark
Hold the Dark is not quite as strong as Jeremy Saulnier's previous efforts (Green Room, Blue Ruin), but his mastery of tension remains unparalleled. Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) stars as a wolf expert who's convinced by an Alaskan woman (Riley Keough, Max Mad: Fury Road) to hunt a wolf that took her young son, only to get wrapped up in a murder plot. Meanwhile, the boy's soldier father (Alexander Skarsgård, True Blood) returns home from duty in the Middle East unhinged. The screenplay is written by Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore), based on the book of the same name by William Giraldi. As viewers have come to expect from Saulnier, the violence is as unrelenting as the suspense.
Tumblr media
8. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not your TGIF version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Its aesthetically similar to the Archie Comics title on which its based, embracing the rich Gothic horror atmosphere, but the story veers more into teen drama territory. The result is like a mash-up of Riverdale, The Witch, and Harry Potter. It may take a few episodes to become invested, plus to get used to the distracting shallow depth of field style (which is thankfully used less as the season progresses), but it's eventually rather addicting. The midsection becomes something of a monster-of-the-week series, but it never loses sight of the overall story arc. Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) is charming as the titular witch, and the main cast also includes Ross Lynch (My Friend Dahmer), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings), and Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who).
Tumblr media
9. Into the Forest
Into the Forest is a post-apocalyptic tale of sorts, but it's a grounded take on the subject matter that largely functions as a drama. Ellen Page (Inception) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) star as sisters who live with their father (Callum Keith Rennie, Battlestar Galactica) in a secluded, woodland home. Directed by Patricia Rozema (Mansfield Park), the movie follows the family in their fight for survival in the months after electricity is lost throughout the world. Although it drags in spots, Page, who produced the film after falling in love with Jean Hegland's novel on which it's based, is in top form.
Tumblr media
10. In Darkness
In Darkness stars Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) as a blind pianist who hears her upstairs neighbor (Emily Ratajkowski, Gone Girl) get murdered, drawing her into London's seedy underworld, where she meets Ed Skrein (Deadpool) and Joely Richardson (Event Horizon). With shades of Wait Until Dark, the thriller offers some solid suspense and tension, plus superb sound design and cinematography. The setup is gripping, though the plot later becomes too convoluted for its own good. Dormer is fantastic in the lead, and she also produced and co-wrote the script with director Anthony Byrne (Peaky Blinders).
Tumblr media
11. Don't Watch This
Don't Watch This is listed on Netflix as a season, but it's simply five unrelated horror shorts, ranging between 2 and 9 minutes in length. There's body horror, killer kids, urban explorers, and Queer Eye's Antoni Porowski parodying American Psycho. In addition to a few clever setups and strong horror set pieces, they boast quality production value, cinematography, and special features (both practical and digital). Shorts usually struggle to find an audience on YouTube, so it's great to see them showcased on a platform as powerful as Netflix.
Tumblr media
Bonus: De Palma
De Palma is a documentary on filmmaker Brian De Palma (Carrie, Scarface, Mission: Impossible, Blow Out, Phantom of the Paradise, et al.). The septuagenarian himself - with no other talking heads - discusses and reflects on his oeuvre, going movie by movie (plus a handful of unmade projects) in chronological order, accompanied by clips and stills. Co-directed by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) and Jake Paltrow (Young Ones), the candid nature of the interviews prevent the film from feeling like a mere DVD special feature. It moves briskly, leaving you wanting more even at 110 minutes.

2010 - Dables - Pretty Ugly
Tumblr media
Time to get back to what I created this tumblr for, which was blogging liner notes for the CDs I have released as Dables in order. This is Pretty Ugly, my 4th album and definitely the first Dables album most people heard because shortly after it came out is when I started performing regularly. During this era, 2009-2010, I was still performing solo, but instead of just playing improvised noise or electronic music, I started playing songs more songs from my albums using a set up similar to Ween or Big Black. I played electric guitar and sang while my Tascam Portastudio was plugged straight into the PA, playing the pre-recorded bass and drum machine parts. I played my first “electric” show this way in December 2009 in Fountain Inn, SC at a house party with Coma Cinema and it went over extremely well. I played mostly songs from the “14 Songs” album, and a few from this disc.
Released on February 3 2010, this album was conceived as a concept album to mix pretty pop songs with ugly noise songs. The idea was to go back and forth, first track being a pretty pop song, the next being an experimental or weird/off-putting/ugly noise song. The cover illustrates this concept with combining the beauty of a sunflower, placed in an ugly toilet. That is also actually my real toilet, from my parent’s house, with plastic flowers inside of it. I took the picture and sent it to my friend Victoria Ferrer, who runs The Black Lodge, a subculture get together at various local clubs. She edited it for me, writing the text on it and coloring the background around the toilet black, and turning the flowers red instead of yellow, and I think she did an absolutely fabulous job and I love her for it. My friend/occasional-partner-in-crime with Slacker Pop Records Micheal Keller, of the band Satan in Bondage, helped me put together the inner artwork including the lyrics, and he paid to help me print and make over 50 physical copies, and he helped distribute it so I also owe a huge thanks to him. Listening back to this album reminds me of what was going on in my life at the time. I was working at a Kangaroo Express gas station, and came in one day to find out my store manager and good friend Russell Folk had committed suicide the night before. I was extremely shocked and upset by this and I ended up walking out on my shift, and quitting the job on the spot. It was my first day back from a two week vacation and I couldn’t handle the responsibility of having to be the one to tell customers who came into the store who were asking me, “Where’s Russell?" all day so after about an hour of my shift, I just up and left. I went home and wrote "Song For Russell”, which didn’t make it onto this disc but ended up on a future one called “Stuff Volume 2”. I spent the next two weeks frantically recording songs to help escape from the depression caused by the death of such a close friend. I had known Russell for over 2 years, and saw him about 5 times a week and we had become very close. This disc is most definitely dedicated to his memory, and I recorded it as therapy to help cope with my first experience of death. Besides my great-grandmother, who I wasn’t very close to, Russell was the first person I knew well to die. I still miss him very much, and this disc will always remind me of him. Anyways, on to the songs themselves.
‘Boredumb’ is one of the most popular Dables songs. It has been performed at every single show since that first electric show December 2009. Funny that this one is such a fan favorite because it took me less than hour to write and record it to completion. However this song is sort of a loose rip-off musically of Flies on My Dick by Ween. It has minimal guitar, slow, plodding drum machine, monotone vocals, and quirky lead guitar breakdown just like that song does. Although I like to think I did my own thing with that formula and I wouldn’t say this song an out-right rip-off, just inspired by the formula of Ween.
'Sober and Bored’ was the first track recorded for this album and the title and music itself was inspired by The Boredoms.
'Hang Around’ came out extra poppy because The Beatles remasters had just came out and I was listening to them non-stop and wanted to do a song with “doo-wahs” vocals on it. Besides a short, sloppy, semi-solo on the song “Who Are You?” from Slacker Pop, this track was the first “real” guitar solo I ever put on a song and I’m still pretty proud of it and I think I nailed it on the second take. Prior to this, I was pretty opposed to doing guitar solos.  Never performed an electric version of this song live before, but I’ve played it at acoustic shows several times.
'Live Forever’ was my attempt to emulate The Melvins, although it sounds little like them. The odd lyric “I want to lick your knees” was inspired by a porno I saw where a girl was blowing a guy and said “I wanna lick your knees” and proceeded to lick his kneecaps for a few minutes. I thought that was odd and hilarious so I put it in this song. The lyric “I want to see the end cause you know it will start again” means that if a person were to live forever, they would witness the collapse of civilizations and empires, only to see them get rebuilt and start again.
Along with a fellow local band Hollow Body, 'An Exercise in Isolation’ as well as portions of 'Boredumb’ was later put on the soundtrack to local independent film, “WTF?”, a horror/comedy film made by Firefly Ink Productions about a group of people on a road trip who’s car breaks down and the person who picks them up off the side of the road who proceeds to slaughter them. Clips of the movie are available on youtube.
'This is Nothing’ was a bit of a jab at the poor work ethics of my fellow bandmates in my side-project DAN, about how they wanted to play shows really badly, but weren’t dedicated enough to practice regularly. Needless to say, DAN broke up about 6 months after Pretty Ugly came out after only playing 3 shows together, all but 1 were a disaster. Although we eventually made up and became friends again, after another year or two we fell back into the same drama and I haven’t spoken to either of them in about 7 years now and don’t plan on it either...but if either of them happen to read this, I have no hard feelings toward Sid and Clayton (there’s been too much drama and we can’t get along with each other anymore but I’m not mad at either of them) and I think the music we made together in DAN was some of the most creative and fun songs I’ve ever been a part of, and I’m proud of the recordings we made together and I wish them luck with their recent project, People of Mars.
'Loop 3’ is the third installment of tracks I create using my Boss Loop Station. The first one was on '14 Songs’, and the second was on 'Stuff Volume 1’. This is probably my least favorite and is definitely the laziest one and in hindsight should’ve been left off this album entirely. Loop 4 appears on the most recent self-titled album.
“She Don’t Dig Me” was the last song recorded for this album. This song was lyrics written probably 2 years prior that I never put music to. I lifted the vocal melody of this song from Get Me by Dinosaur Jr, although in the end it turned out  Listening back to it, the audio quality on this track is embarrassing, and I remember being very frustrated with mixing it, and eventually giving up and just releasing it as-is, with several glaring technical mistakes, that hopefully nobody can notice but me.
'108’ was an older recording, recorded shortly after finished 14 Songs, but was saved for this release. At 9 minutes and 32 seconds it is the longest track I have ever recorded.

FRIENDS. As you may know, I’ve been doing this remix project where I write an alternative version of defunct author cleanwhiteroom’s Stargate Universe fic Force over Distance. This remix has everything: psychic bond, posthumanism, M-theory, enemies to lovers, an AI that sometimes looks like Daniel Jackson and sometimes like John Sheppard, an ancient alien form of proto-Latin that I’m conlanging up...
Have you thought: MAN, I wish I could read this remix, but unfortunately I have never read nor will I ever in ten million years read this fic? GOOD NEWS: I am now writing from the beginning, so you can read along without any prior knowledge!
Have you thought: MAN, I wish I could read this fic, but unfortunately I am not a Stargate Universe fan (IS ANYONE), GOOD NEWS: you don’t have to be— especially because the fic is quite divergent from the show. Here is a complete guide to the important characters and concepts, for anyone who might be interested in joining me on this posthumanist psychic bond ancient alien journey:
The concept of Stargate Universe is that a ragtag bunch of humans are gated onto a million-year-old Ancient spaceship that is constantly traveling through a region of space impossibly distant from Earth. To understand that, you have to understand both the idea of a stargate (a magic circle that you “dial” to create a wormhole through space that transports you to another planet) and the Ancients (literally Ancient Aliens who looked like humans and interbred with humans and AS PART OF A PLOT TO CAUSE MY EARLY DEATH THROUGH STROKE spoke Latin-ish, and who were super technologically advanced and were responsible for the stargates and the city of Atlantis). A long time ago the Ancients died of a plague, and those who didn’t die figured out how to ascend (transform themselves into pure energy in order to exist on another plane).
The Destiny (the million-year-old Ancient spaceship) is reachable only by dialing a Very Special nine-chevron stargate address. Because of this, the secret Earth Air Force program responsible for the stargates established a base called Icarus (GREAT WORK GUYS! A+ NAMING!) on a planet they could use for fuel to dial the address. However, the base was attacked by evil space empire the Lucian Alliance just as Nicholas Rush figured out how to do the dialing. Rather than evacuate everyone to Earth or another location, Rush decided to dial the nine-chevron address rather than lose his chance to do so. That meant everyone who evacuated got stuck on Destiny, because they had no way to dial home. Their only contact with Earth is through the Ancient communication stones, a set of magic rocks that, because the Stargate writers don’t understand that Cartesian Dualism Is Bad, can switch a person’s consciousness with a person at the other end of the device on Earth.
Characters:
Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle): Rush is a surly Glaswegian mathematician who is constantly engaged in about thirty-seven secret plots at any one time. He tragically suffers from Dead Wife Syndrome, a serious disorder afflicting men on our TV sets. His wife, Gloria, was a concert violinist who died of cancer. For a while, Destiny’s computer was appearing to him as her. One time Colonel Young left Rush on an alien planet for dead after Rush framed him for murder. Then Rush got picked up by the Nakai, who put him a wetsuit (good work, guys) and tortured him (bad work, guys) until he escaped (good work, Nick).
Everett Young (Louis Ferreira): Young is “”in charge”” of the Destiny, except for when people are trying to mutiny against him. His principal character trait is Military Guy. He split up with his wife, Emily, after having an affair with TJ, but then they kind of got back together, but then Telford split them up again, and oh my god this plotline was so stupid that remembering it is sending me into a coma. Also this one time Young had to mercy-kill the wounded Hunter Riley, As Men Do.
Tamara “TJ” Johansen (Alaina Huffman): an Air Force medic who ended up being de facto doctor on the Destiny. She was pregnant with Young’s child (a daughter she was planning to call Carmen), but then either miscarried OR something spooky and mysterious transported the baby to another dimension and oh my god I thought I had come out of my coma but it was just a dream and I am in hell. She also found out through time shenanigans that she is going to develop ALS in the future and die from it.
David Telford (Lou Diamond Philips): a sinister, devious, and super hard-core Air Force colonel whose loyalties are always slightly unclear. (For a while he was brainwashed by the Lucian Alliance.) He wasn’t part of the Destiny crew, but he ended up on Destiny a few times due to various shenanigans. One time future!Rush killed Telford, then downloaded an Ancient database into his head and committed suicide. So they have a totally normal relationship.
Ronald Greer (Jamil Walker Smith): a soldier with a temper/self-control problem who, despite having no character traits except for being angry, is actually really fun to watch.
Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque): the daughter of a senator, who was working as his aide when they ended up on Destiny. He died. She got abducted by the Nakai, who genetically altered her, which made her dangerous (which got fixed) and a math genius (which didn’t).
Eli Wallace (David Blue): a nerd self-insert OCn MIT dropout who solved an impossible math problem in a video game. That won him an involuntary trip to Icarus Base, which is how he ended up on the Destiny.
Camile Wray (Ming-Na Wen): an International Oversight Advisory (the UN body overseeing the stargate stuff) politician who ends up in charge of non-military stuff on Destiny. She has a girlfriend back on Earth.
Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith): a young soldier whose main character trait is that he’s dating Chloe.
The Science Team: Brody (laid back dude who makes moonshine as a hobby), Volker (hapless guy whom Rush hates), and Park (sweet woman who is dating Greer) work on the Destiny science team, which exists for Rush to yell at sometimes. Dr. Franklin used to work on the science team, until they discovered a neural interface chair on the ship— the Ancients use to build these interfaces that would allow the user to do stuff like download a database of knowledge or fly a city or interface with weapons and stuff— and it fried his brain and uploaded his consciousness to the ship.
The Lucian Alliance: a bunch of Lucian Alliance people boarded Destiny at one point. Imagine a bunch of D-list actors dressed in leather pretending to be space mercenaries. A couple of them were “good” in the sense that they were “morally not terrible:” Ginn (a young hacker whom Eli fell in love with, but then who got killed later, but her consciousness got uploaded to Destiny’s computer, and it’s SO not worth going into) and Varro (a dude TJ fell in love with despite the fact that he looks like a weird muscular bird).
The Nakai: blue insectoid aliens who are always chasing Destiny and trying to conquer it. They mentally torture/interrogate anyone they come in contact with, preferentially by sticking them in tanks full of water with psychic transmitters on their heads.
Also: remember Daniel Jackson, from SG-1? Keep him in mind.
John Sheppard and Rodney McKay, too.
In conclusion,

‣ DETAILS ↴
January 2017 - March 2018: Busy with his residency James assumed his fatigue was normal. He also assumed his weight loss was from his loss of appetite and were caused by a busy schedule and lack of culinary talent. Those factors kept him from regularly eating or hitting the gym. As time went on he experienced other symptoms like breathlessness and persistent coughing. James ignored the symptoms of a serious illness as a bug that he picked up at work. His visits to family in LA or England were infrequent and though they commented on his weight loss they had all been through residencies and agreed and attributed the illness and other symptoms to the fact that he was under alot of stress and a busy schedule.
March 2018 - May 2018: Severe headaches, exhaustion, and back pain led to some absences form work that resulted in a written warning. Upon a board meeting they decided to have Jameson evaluated before adding the warning to his permanent folder when his peers expressed their concerns. The results of blood work and scans were surprising because of Jameson’s age, health, and family history. In April of 2018 he was officially diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in his tonsils. Taking time to analyze the situation and discuss his options with his family, he applied and requested a transfer to UCLA. His mother hoped he would return to England where family specialists could treat him. But he wanted to remain independent and chose to see amazing doctors in LA. And he didn’t want to worry his parents.
June 2018: James made arrangements and closed on a small house in LA and used his accrued time off to move back to the city. He chose to do this quietly because of the circumstances. Those he lost touch with he hopes to reconnect with and make amends. He will continue testing in this month to determine the severity of his NHL and what method they will use to attack or remove the cancer.
July 2018: James is given recommendations of a tonsillectomy and radiotherapy. He elected to wait for further test results to feel more certain that the cancer was not more severe and requiring a more intense broad solution such as chemotherapy or lymph node removal. Though he was now showing signs of anaemia and poor liver function test (LFT) results. He holds of until after his family’s vacation for a final decision.
August 2018: James talks to his family on the trip and decides to have a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A). He chose to remove the adenoids because of abnormal swelling. And will have a low-dose rate-Brachytherapy surgery after the T&A. He will spend the last two weeks of August in the hospital and be allowed visitors outside his room. There will be no visitor restrictions after his release. Post-Op he will experience the following symptoms from the surgeries: severe pain in his throat, jaw, and ears; varying levels of fever due to the combination of his surgeries and the cancer being attacked, which may concern visitors due to the frenzy this creates in his room; nausea; vertigo; vomiting; halitosis (temporary and unnoticed because of seclusion); and swelling of the neck that inhibits speech.
September 2018 - 2030: He remains diligent about every check up and voices his concerns with doctors over various aches and pains. As the years go on he slowly accepts that he is in remission. James never drinks alcohol and never uses non-prescription drugs/medication, and lives a very active and healthy lifestyle. If he has a wife they will have difficulty having children.
August 2031: Cancer is found in James’s lymph nodes and has spread throughout his lymphatic system. Adult NHL required a new battery of tests for his stage and whether he also had E or S. He does not. He is found to be at Stage II. He spends time in England to be treated by specialist. They perform chemotherapy and then a stem cell transplant. After an extensive stay including concerns over his ability to build his immune system, he returns home in remission once more.
August 2031 - August 2034: He continues his diligent check ups and self-monitoring of his health. However, low bone density impacted his ability to continue his same level of activity. He experiences a few breaks and fractures before reserving himself to low impact sports and methods of exercise. If he has a wife and they are trying to have children they will discover he is infertile.
August 2034: After catching a cold that graduates to bronchitis and then pneumonia, doctors realize Jameson’s immune system’s health is rapidly deteriorating. During his stay he begins to cough blood, urinate blood, and experience nosebleeds. The initial evaluation showed he had myelodysplastic syndrome. Further testing showed he had acute myeloid leukemia. In early Stage IV, his family respects his wishes and let him go home and receive radiotherapy to address symptoms and maintain a certain quality of life until he passes.
January 3, 2035: Jameson will enter a coma in his sleep and will die from multisystem organ failure and had already signed a DNR.

Daniel Ketch was born in Brooklyn, New York. One night, Daniel and his sister Barbara were attacked by gangsters; with his sister grievously wounded by Deathwatch, Daniel fled and hid in a junkyard, where he found a motorcycle bearing a mystical sigil. Upon touching the sigil, he was transformed into the Ghost Rider. This Ghost Rider was nearly identical to the previous, though his costume and bike had undergone a modernized tailoring. He beat the gangsters, but was unable to save Barbara, who had slipped into a coma as a result from her injury.[4] She was eventually killed by Blackout,[5] whom Ketch had acquired as a mortal enemy.
Ketch later learned the origin of Zarathos from the mystical dream lord Nightmare,[6] who believed the entity to which Ketch was bound was Zarathos reborn and freed from the Soul Crystal. Ghost Rider denied this, though others, including Mephisto, believed otherwise.[7]
Alliances and deathsEdit
When Ghost Rider becomes a part of the team the Midnight Sons, he dies twice. The first person who killed Ghost Rider was the vampire hunter Blade, who was at the time possessed by the mystical book the Darkhold.[volume & issue needed] He was soon revived by the Darkhold Redeemers, along with everyone else killed by Blade.[volume & issue needed] The second time Daniel Ketch was killed was by Zarathos,[volume & issue needed] but, as previously, was resurrected.[volume & issue needed]
Ketch and Johnny Blaze later learned they were long-lost brothers and that their family was the inheritor of a mystical curse related to the Spirits of Vengeance.[volume & issue needed] Danny Ketch seemed to die by the hand of Blackout,[8] but the Spirit of Vengeance to which he had been bound through the bike's talisman lived on.[volume & issue needed] During this time Ketch's only existence remained inside a void and he was only able to communicate with Ghost Rider via the spirit world.[volume & issue needed]
RebirthEdit
In Peter Parker: Spider-Man #93, Ghost Rider is seen being summoned forth on the streets of New York, his powers out of control due to lacking a host. He encounters Spider-Man and Ketch, who tells him that he is Noble Kale, and should be in Mephisto's realm. The trio contend with a bomb created by a group of terrorists who wish to incinerate the city. Although Ghost Rider takes possession of the bomb, he lacks the strength to contain the impending explosion, and thus Ketch rejoins with him to become Ghost Rider once more, and aids Spider-Man in neutralizing the threat.[9]
This Ketch/Kale hybrid version of Ghost Rider eventually becomes the King of Hell in a brokered arrangement with then-ruler Blackheart. In return for Ghost Rider coming to Hell and marrying two hand-picked demon brides, Pao Fu and the Black Rose, Blackheart will free the Ketch line from the curse. Kale accepts. On the night after the dual wedding, Black Rose betrays Kale and tries to kill him. When she fails, Blackheart revealed that the entire arrangement had been a plan to kill Kale and destroy his soul. Black Rose is revealed to be Roxanne Simpson, the supposedly dead wife of Johnny Blaze. In response, Kale kills Blackheart, becomes King of Hell, and learns he is in fact the angel of death.[10]
Ketch slipped into a coma in the mortal plane and was later revived by his dead mother, Naomi Kale-Blaze, and brother, Johnny Blaze, and goes on to live a seemingly normal life. However, his longtime girlfriend Stacy Dolan learns she is pregnant with Ketch's child and runs away.[11]
2000sEdit
In the 2008 miniseries Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch, Ketch is tormented that his life has fallen apart due to his family curse, and thus has the Noble Kale Ghost Rider exorcised from his body by the technomancer Mary LeBow. Ketch falls into a deep alcoholic depression. He is repeatedly approached by Mister Eleven, a talking crow who gives him "doses" of the Ghost Rider power and reveals to him the history of the Spirits of Vengeance and how some past Ghost Riders were unable to cope with the Rider's power, which drove them insane and burned out their souls.[12] Mister Eleven also explains that Verminus Rex, from Blackheart's old Spirit of Vengeance, is hunting other Spirits of Vengeance. Ketch vanquishes Rex, and absorbs the spirits Rex had taken in the past, but this drives Ketch insane. Zadkiel intervenes and absorbs the other Spirits of Vengeance from Ketch's soul, upon which Ketch becomes a knight in Zadkiel's service.[13]
2010sEdit
In a 2014 story, Ketch is briefly consulted by Otto Octavius regarding his old foe Blackout, who had just kidnapped May Parker. After informing Spider-Man of Blackout's abilities and weaknesses, Ketch tells him how evil and cruel the half-demon is, referencing Barbara's death at his hands. He advises Spider-Man to kill Blackout if he gets the chance.

KREATOR
Interview with Mille Petrozza by Daniel Hinds
(conducted September 2001)
Kreator is a legend.  These German pioneers have helped define thrash metal, inspired legions of black and death metal outfits, experimented with gothic melodies and industrial rhythms and never lost their drive or ability to create superior albums along the way.  With their first album in over two years, titled Violent Revolution, due out in late September, they are once again ready to conquer the metal world and show 'em how it is done.  Back in May, I was privileged enough to get a few minutes with founder/vocalist/guitarist Mille Petrozza and get the latest on the world from his perspective…
The Past Life Trauma disc turned out really cool – did you enjoy putting it together? Yeah, we definitely did this time.  The labels have already released two other compilations, which we weren't happy with.  The first two were put together without us involved, and this time we were.  We got to put in the lyrics, rare tracks and old photo material, which was a lot of fun.
The booklet and everything is very nicely done. Yeah, it is very interesting for people who don't know about the band, they get to see how the band came together and see early photos that haven't been released before.
How do you feel about the older material now listening to it again? It was definitely an experience and influences us for some of the new record. We haven't really listened to the old material that much, we were always concerned with coming out with new things and new ways of defining our sound.  Listening to the old material again was very inspiring for writing of the new material.
I really liked the live version of "Winter Martyrium" on there.  Have you ever planned to do a full-on live album at some point?   We definitely have, but the thing is every time we ask our labels to release a live record, they say the fans don't want a live record.  Which I think is wrong.  It doesn't make sense to me that they release compilation albums all over the place, but they don't want to release live records, where we would have the opportunity to come up with brand new versions of those songs.  I think that would be very interesting, instead of releasing three compilation records.  (laughs)  It's strange, man.  I always wanted to do a live record, but it never happens.  Someday, though - I have hope.
Tell me a little about the new album.   The next record is going to be called Violent Revolution and, like I said earlier, the song writing is very heavy and very fast.  It picks up where Coma of Souls ended, in a way, with a more modern sound and more direct lyrics.  It's like using the experience from our previous three records and putting it into a new album.
What exactly do you mean by the lyrics are more 'direct' this time? It's a whole concept, about how you drown when you're living in a big city and how the individual gets lost within the society, where everything is only focused on material wealth and consuming and career.  Stuff that, in my opinion is very unhealthy for the human mind and the spirit of the world.  What we did for this record, we linked all the songs together.  The Violent Revolution is not like attacking a government or something, it's just about being able to change and if you don't change, you do it in a violent way.  You force yourself to become a new individual and progress, in your spirit.
More of a personal revolution then. Yeah, definitely, that's what I meant.  I'm very happy with the lyrics and the way it all came together, I think its going to be a very heavy record.
I’ve heard that there were some line-up shuffles since the last album – what is the current line-up looking like? We have a new guitar player and Ventor (drummer) is back in the band.  We have Sami from Finland on guitar.  In the past, I wrote most of the songs anyway, and the guitar player in the band has always had the job to come up with some melodies over my riffs and inspire me and inspire the songs, add something to the songs.  I think Sami does a very, very good job on the record.  What we also rediscovered is guitar solos - you'll be surprised by how many guitar solos are on the new record. (laughs)  I'm serious!  When you listen to Endorama and Outcast, there are hardly any and this time there are some very nice solos and cool guitar licks.
Last time I talked to you, you said you would probably self-produce your next album. Was that around the time of Endorama?
Yeah. No, we haven't, we have worked with Andy Sneap, who produced Testament and Nevermore, and I think he did a great job.  I'm really happy with the production.  Andy really produced the record, if you know what I mean.  Producing in the sense of getting the best out of the band and coming up with cool ideas for sounds and stuff.
Can we expect a US tour this time around? The thing is, for us, it is very expensive to come to the States.  Right now, we are planning on coming in November or December.  We have some offers to possibly tour there with a band called Primal Fear, but we have to see how things are going to work out.  There is a big possibility, because we are on a new label, SPV, and they really want to support the record, they want to get us to the States.
What do you do to keep yourself entertained when you’re on tour? Reading and taking a look at the cities.  We always try to visit the cultural places in the cites we play at, go see the nice spots of the city.
Did you always think you’d make music your career? It just happened. (laughs)  It started out as entertainment, something to do in my spare time, and it still is.  I take it very serious and enjoy it a lot and put a lot of work into it, it's all I do, you know?  But as soon as I would lose the enjoyment in it, I would not do it anymore.
At what point did you realize that Kreator had become an institution, a major influence on a lot of up-and-coming bands? When we got the Tribute to Kreator record, it was kind of exciting for me.  Being in the band that has a tribute record for the band, that is pretty cool. (laughs)  But then again, you don't really think about those things.  It makes me proud in a way.  It's cool and I like to check out cover version of our band or if someone says, 'This band sounds just like you in your early days,' I definitely check them out.  There have been a couple of great bands, especially from Sweden, that have been influenced by us and we get inspired by them.  A band like At the Gates, for example, I like their music a lot and it inspires me as well.  It's an exchange of ideas.
Was it difficult to keep your voice in shape in the early days? It wasn't in shape.  I think what I did in the early days was more of an uncontrolled way of singing, of performing.  I wasn't really aware of what I was doing, where nowadays I can play with things.  On the new record, I kind of combine both vocal styles.  There are two songs where I do the vocal style from Endorama, but most of the times it is like old style.  But then for some strange parts where I want the music to be more psychedelic and the lyrics to be more direct, I go to the other voice, so I can switch and make it more interesting.
You've done some really cool covers over the years, like "Grinder" and "Lucretia (My Reflection)."  What is it generally about a song that makes you want to cover it? Sometimes we get invited to play on a tribute record, like the Priest and Venom tributes.  Then the Raven thing came about just because we thought it would be cool to show where our influences came from at that time, the NWOBHM.  We recorded half of a version of "Hell’s Bells" for this new record, but we haven't finished it. (laughs)  It's only drums and bass, maybe we'll work on that in the future.
Do you keep up much on what is happening the music world at large or are you too busy with Kreator? I definitely do.  I listen to a lot of metal and anything from electro music to…whatever.  I like mostly metal and always keep track of what is going on.  There have been some very good releases in the past few years - the new Nevermore record, the Warhammer record is pretty cool.
Do you have any long term plans or goals for Kreator? Not really.  (laughs)  We'll keep doing it.  I can't plan things in advance, we never do that; we just do it.  The next thing for me is to work on the cover of the record, then I'm going to go talk to SPV about how they are going to promote the record, then we'll play some festivals, and then go on tour.  We keep busy.

hey there, I've searched through a few tags but I can't find any fics where one/both of them are like a genius or something like that. Maybe they're a mathematician or scientist or something (not really a teacher though). I was just wondering whether a fic like this exists somewhere, or if you knew of any?
Parallel Universes (wattpad) - Phillip is a scientist who is studying Parallel Universes. After what he thinks is a tragic loss where his boyfriend, Daniel, goes into a coma he builds a machine which sends him into a different world. In this world there are no hover cars and holograms, just taxi’s, tea and crumpets. When he enters a less advanced version of his world, he then meets Dan - the spitting image of his supposedly deceased boyfriend, Daniel. How will they react when Phillip and Phil meet? How will Dan and Phil handle a doppelgänger from a different universe?
We Could Be Immortals (wattpad) - (tw) Dan is a genius, who invented a time and space manipulating device he calls ‘yūgen’. It creates wormhole like bridges across time and space, which he is able to cross. One day he runs into an old friend called Phil, except Dan has never met him before.
We Were Shoveled Up Like Muck (Set The Night On Fire) - Skins AU in which Phil is the pill-popping party animal, Dan is the quiet musical genius, Peej steals from houses, Hazel is his sarcastic girlfriend, Louise chews gum and Jack is just along for the ride.
Like these? :)

I've been trying to read the whole vc series, but school and work just keep preventing me from getting really far! Is it ok to ask you to write a little summary for each book so I can catch up with the fandom until I have the time to read them all thoroughly?
Yeah, I understand, time is limited :P
I don’t know that summarizing VC will allow you to “catch up” with the fandom, you really only need to read the first 3 books and the Vampire Armand to get most of the jokes on tumblr, bc most of the jokes seem to center around:
Louis being a pyromaniac,
Lestat being an obnoxious but somehow lovable glittery murder machine,
Lestat and Louis being awesome and shitty murder dads,
Claudia being an ungrateful spoiled brat,
Armand being a little brat, or a slut, or an evul coven master, or all of the above,
Daniel Molloy just wanting to vampire plz!!!11!,
Marius being a pedo, or too bossy, or both,
Gabrielle is a bad mom and an ice queen,
Nicolas is spelled NICOLAS and he is NOT DEAD!,
Secondary characters not getting enough love from anyone!!
There are often spoilers in summaries tho, do you really want to be spoiled? I LOVE being spoiled.
Tumblr media
We have these unreliable narrators, there is a lot of disagreement as to what canon really is, and some fans choose to ignore parts of (or entire books) in the series. We bring our own experiences to the reading, and we choose what to connect with, so I think we can agree on some things about each book, but you will probably get a different summary from any given reader. Even AR has told us to disregard the hybrid Mayfair/VC books (Blood Canticle, possibly Merrick and Blackwood Farm) when moving onto the more recent VC additions (PL and PLROA). So, for example, I have a friend who has only read the first 3 books. She doesn’t even know what happens after that bc she prefers to think it ended after QOTD. So any new vampires made after QOTD do not exist to her. #Your headcanon may vary.
Anyway, you want summaries.
http://vampirechronicles.wikia.com has a pretty good write-up for each of the books (they don’t have PL and PLROA currently, maybe they will eventually). It contains spoilers.
@vraik has thorough VC analysis in their series called The Consulting Analyst over on vraikaiser.com. Spoilers there, too.
@hyperbeeb‘s capsule reviews are pretty gr9 [X]:
Lestat’s Adventures with a Progressive Family
Lestat’s Bisexual Adventures in 18th Century France
Lestat’s Adventures with the Queen of the Vampires
Lestat’s Adventures as a Human
Lestat’s Adventures with Satan
Lestat’s Adventures in a Coma
Lestat’s Adventures with Polyamory
Lestat’s Adventures in the Deep South
Lestat’s Adventures with Not Being There At All
Lestat’s Adventures with Witches and Other Weird Shit
Lestat’s adventures with Being the Vampire Head of State
Lestat’s Adventures with Literal Fucking Aliens
(Note, Pandora and Vittorio are technically stand-alone “New Tales of the Vampires” books, but Pandora would be No. 6 of the 13 book series).
You can check my #VC Synopsis tag, which has more capsule humorous summaries.
Gonna try to do a little summary for each VC under the cut as a personal challenge.
Spoilers ahead! I’ll try to do this with as few spoilers as possible, as factually as possible.
1. Interview with the Vampire - Louis tells the story of his life and unlife to Daniel Molloy. Louis starts at the point in his mortal life just before he meets Lestat, and how his life up until that meeting influenced the unlife that followed after he became a vampire. Lestat’s reasons for choosing Louis are unclear to Louis, but he wants Louis to choose to be a vampire. Louis is under so much duress (failing health, still in emotional distress over his guilt re: a close family member’s death) that the choice is not 100% legit, Lestat can’t wait for a more opportune time and proceeds to turn Louis anyway.
The whole story could be seen as Anne Rice’s exploration of the role of religion and the reasons why terrible things happen to innocent people, the concept of punishment.
For me, it was also eye-opening bc I was 11 when I read it and it introduced the possibility of love between a same-sex couple, even if that was in more of a read-between-the-lines way.
It also has a child vampire and I hadn’t seen any media even attempt to tell a story with a child vampire before. Few media that attempt it seem to have captured the beauty and tragedy of such a creature as in this story, and she reappears in a few of the other VC. Unreliable Narrator thing that continues throughout the series.
^ok that was too long, I’m going for shorter.
2. The Vampire Lestat - Lestat seeks to “correct the record” that Louis laid out in IWTV by giving us his own backstory, starting at his mortal youth and how that influenced the unlife that followed when he became a vampire, against his will (hence the “I’m going to give you the choice I never had,” line from movie!IWTV). There is more exploration in the role of religion and reasons why bad things happen to basically innocent people, and whether you really can make the best of a shitty situation or just give up. More about punishment. A very unique take on the origin of the vampires as a species is revealed. And the reasons why Lestat behaved the way he did (basically all secretive) in IWTV. Unreliable Narrator thing that continues throughout the series, who are we to believe? Lestat or Louis? And the author’s retconning which is perceived as “making excuses later in canon for behavior that’s already happened.” Some readers really despise this. Personally, I like having the options and trusting one version of events, or none of them.
3. The Queen of the Damned - Lestat’s modern-era rock career wakes the Queen of the Vampires and she has this awesome Radical Feminist idea for world peace. She’s already gotten started on it! She upgrades Lestat physically so that he can help her accomplish her goals, but he’s not really on board. They meet with the vampires she has allowed to survive her purge and it doesn’t go very well. Also in this book, we have different narrators, more about the vampire origin story, and the Armand/Daniel ship is sailing at its best here.
4. The Tale of the Body Thief - Having suffered so much through the past 3 books, Lestat is a suicidal hamburger-brained moron and makes some very bad choices. Despite everyone advising him NOT to, Lestat makes a terrible trade with a body thief and learns quickly that he had idealized being human. He does some horrendous stuff, and wants off the Being Human ride. He has one friend who helps him set things back to the way they should be, and then he betrays that friend in a spectacularly cruel way. More importantly, Lestat also gets a wonderful cuddly doggo.
5. Memnoch the Devil - Lestat Goes to Heaven and Hell, meets Jesus Christ, meets God, meets Satan (who prefers to go by “Memnoch”) it’s all a huge interview process to decide if Lestat might work for God or Satan and it’s basically fanfic of the Bible. Some people hated it for those reasons. I found it really intriguing, bc it presents a reason why God created the earth, and why there’s suffering, why God allows suffering to go on, and where religion comes from. Like Lestat, Memnoch says he’s not the antagonist, but really the good guy in all this. When Dorothy gets back to Kansas Lestat returns to earth, there is disagreement about whether he went on a real trip or he was just fooled by a really talented spirit. Lestat is so confused that he throws a huge tantrum and then gets solitary confinement, then slips into a coma.
6. The Vampire Armand - Armand gets his spotlight and gets to really tell his story, do we believe everything he tells us? Lots of good Italy times stuff. Armand visits Lestat in his coma-state, and talks about that, too.
7. Merrick - Merrick is a Mayfair witch in NOLA who bewitches Louis in pursuit of his request for closure with Claudia, and hilarity ensues. Louis gets the most screentime he’s had since IWTV, but the whole book is told from a 3rd wheel’s POV, it would have been so much better from Louis’ or Merrick’s POV. Major fatal thing happens but fortunately Lestat wakes up from his coma in time to save the day.
8. Blood and Gold - Marius tells his story, as does the vampire Thorne tell his own story. Marius talks about his artistic influences and his experience with the early Talamasca and Santino and the Children of Satan. We see Daniel (now living with Marius) under a kind of spell, which Marius says is temporary.
9. Blackwood Farm - Lestat goes to the Deep South and hears the story of vampire Quinn (his story defies summary) and, with Merrick’s help, saves the day.
10. Blood Canticle - More vampire and Mayfair mixing. And Taltos. It’s a very big WTF book. But it has some very funny scenes and lines in it. It ends with Lestat promising the Dark Gift to someone.
11. Prince Lestat - Vampire scientists. A clone. Someone gets kidnapped. Ultimate Vampire Coven Gathering. Lestat is cranky, saves the day anyway. Ghosts apparently can linger on earth after death and make bodies for themselves. Characters from past books reappear. New characters are introduced. Louis writes a chapter about how OK fine, he does love Lestat. FINE.
12. Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis - I haven’t finished this but basically… the REAL vampire origin story, and it involves bird-like aliens, who were sent to earth bc the aliens feed on the suffering of mortals. The bird-like aliens didnt want to create Atlantis. in fact they were pissed because this one creature of theirs, Amel, made Atlantis with the Luracastria (i dunno i think thats how it’s spelled) and their viewing tech couldn’t see through the material. Amel made Atlantis to spite the bird-like aliens omg i cant believe im typing this. Louis and Lestat finally have some legit canon cuddletimes.
- Pandora - the story of the vampire Pandora, and why Marius is bad at relationships. Lots of good Roman times stuff.
- Vittorio - is not a VC vampire, and wants nothing to do with that dysfunctional pile of fanged crazies. @monstersinthecosmos and @vittoriathevampire could give you a better summary of that one, since I didn’t absorb it too well :P
