Dana Katherine Scully is a horse girl
A thesis...
The xf fandom has a general consensus Fox Mulder is a bit crazy. A maniac is how its been described. A lesser discussed idea is that although Fox Mulder is completely unhinged in such a pure BDE, knows the norms of society and doesn't give any shits kind of way, Dana Scully is also not quite completely "typical". She just looks very sane comparatively when next to her partner.
Placed in any other situation or with regular FBI partners, she's kind of a weirdo too. For me, she effervesces horse girl energy. Good, funny, weird, horse girl energy.
What is horse girl energy? You might ask. I found an excellent summation in a lovely article on Mashable.
Big dick energy and horse girl energy are innately opposite vibes -- if big dick energy is chaotic good, horse girl energy is lawful neutral. If you have big dick energy, you're probably kind of weird because you don't give a shit about what people think of you -- you set the social norms. If you have horse girl energy, you're probably kind of weird because you're blissfully unaware of social norms.
I could probably write an essay about Mulder's BDE didn't fully evolve until he met Scully and she believed in him. All others opinions of him fell away and he wasn't so bothered by everyone calling him spooky anymore. But for right now, this is about Scully.
I am obviously not talking about cliche horse girl attributes. That they talk about nothing but horses, they wear their riding pants or boots outside of the barn or anything overtly obvious.
Im talking about pure personality and vibes.
Im talking about the cool girl essence. The eccentricity and the slight obliviousness to social etiquette. The way they can be confident and serious without worrying if they're offending anyone. The way they can be completely standoffish until someone makes their way past that barrier and then they are the kindest warmest people you know. The headstrong way about them. Of the fact they, having dealt with 2000 pound animals since they were basically toddlers, take no shit from anyone, especially men. And yes, perhaps are a little bit crazy too.
So maybe her parents let her muck out stalls in exchange for riding privileges at the local barn in Annapolis or something as a kid but yeah, thats my canon and Im sticking to it.
Anyway Mulder and Scully were made for each other. La di da.
Bonus picture of GA being a literal horse girl with very good form. lol

Small Miracles
My prompts for today: Eight Nights of Mulder, day 5 - miracles; X-Mas Files Challenge - helping neighbors
Summary: After coming back from the dead, Mulder is just trying to figure out who he is and what his place in the world is. Before he can lose himself in his thoughts, though, one of his neighbors needs his help. ("Three Words" fic, angst; wc: 1,362)
Tagging @today-in-fic @eightnightsofmulder
He's staring out his window, peeved that it's clean. Like everything else in his apartment. The last time he was home, the last time he looked outside, his window was dusty and greasy. It should be an improvement, but it's just another thing that's different. One more thing he wasn't around for. Yet another way for him to no longer fit in here.
He presses his thumb against the glass, observing his fingerprint. That one's the same. Or at least he thinks it is. There's nothing he can be sure of anymore. Except for one thing; he's a miracle. It's what everyone keeps saying. And he can't hear it anymore.
His health is a miracle. His progress is a miracle. Earlier, he rolled his eyes, and instead of miracle, Scully used exceptional development. Still, what she means, is that his healing has been miraculous. She should know, because she's become an expert on miracles. He's only one of them. The other, of course, is the baby.
When he became aware of Scully's protruding stomach and its implications, it dawned on him how much he had missed. Dates and months meant nothing to him, but the growing sapling inside of Scully felt tangible.
When he saw her months ago - and in many ways it feels like it was mere days ago - her stomach was toned and flat. Her hair was shorter, her face more angular. Now everything about her is soft. So soft that he's been afraid to touch her, even though everything in him screams out for her.
Before, the last time he was alive, he wished for this. One night, he even prayed. For Scully. He asked for a miracle for her. Wanted nothing more than to give her the child she so craved. That he started wanting, too. What a sick twist of fate that they succeeded in creating a new life, and Mulder lost his. Now, miraculously, he is back. He's been given a second chance and he doesn't know how to take it. How is he ever going to catch up?
Mulder paces around his apartment, but it's unfamiliar. He remembers the last night he was here before he and Skinner went to Oregon a lifetime ago. Scully had sat on the couch, bespectacled and with her legs crossed. He had tried to pack for his trip, had meant to take out the trash before it started reeking, and in the end, did neither because Scully smiled at him and they ended up making love.
He walks into the kitchen, but the trash bag from months ago is no longer there. Why would it be? There's nothing here that's out of place and it makes him mad. Scully went out to get them a few things and he didn't have the strength to ask her to stay, to not leave him alone here, or let him come with her. He lets a highly pregnant woman do his grocery shopping. Is that the man he wants to be?
There's a bag of chips in the cupboard he knows he put there years ago. It's too high for Scully to reach and he hopes she hasn't checked there. He's in luck. The bag is still there and Mulder doesn't care if they're still edible. He needs to get out of here, do something normal. What's more normal than taking out the trash? He puts the chips in a trash bag, grabs his keys, and leaves his apartment.
One floor down, he runs into a young woman who looks vaguely familiar. Though he doesn't remember her being pregnant. Seems like that's becoming a pattern.
"Are you okay?"
"Do I look okay?" she asks, breathing heavily.
"You look like you're having a baby."
"And you look like crap," she shoots back. "Oh, it's you." She must recognize him. "FBI dude. I thought you were a goner."
"So did I. Is that- did your water break?"
"Yeah that kid is coming and it's coming soon."
"Do you want me to- you live with your boyfriend, right?"
"You've been gone a while," she says, holding her stomach. "He really is a goner."
"I'm sorry," Mulder says, helping her make it outside of the building.
"I'm not. He's an asshole."
"Is there anyone I can-"
"There's no one."
"Well, there's me. I'll go with you." He doesn't know why he offers it, and his young neighbor looks skeptical until another contraction hits her. She squeezes Mulder's hand and screams into his ear. For the first time since he's come back to life, he feels alive.
On the drive to the hospital, he learns that the young woman's name is Emma and that her boyfriend Harvey ran off a couple of months ago, claiming he wasn't ready to be a father after all.
"At least he can't veto Tinkerbell as a name," Emma says right before she's silenced by a bad contraction that makes her whole body shake and shiver, causing Mulder, who is panting as hard as she is, to hold her tightly against him, whispering nonsense words into her sweaty hair.
They make it to the hospital in time and it's only when a nurse asks him if he's the father that he realizes that he is. He is the father. Just not of this baby. And Scully, who has gone through more than enough lately, has no idea where he is.
He charms another nurse into letting him use the phone, impatiently twirling the cable around his finger, waiting for Scully to pick up.
"Mulder?" she asks, sounding panicky and out of breath.
"Hey Scully, it's me."
"Where are you? You didn't leave a note and your phone is here and I-"
"Breathe," he says gently. "Breathe, please. I'm fine. I- I ended up at the hospital because-"
"You what?"
"Scully, you need to relax, okay? I'm fine. I ran into this young woman in my building and she was in labor and didn't have anyone to go to the hospital with her."
"Emma is having her baby?"
"You- you know her?"
"We saw each other a few times and talked a bit. Our situations were, um, similar." One dad who ran off, and another who died. How often was Scully in his building that she knows Emma and her situation? he files the question away for later. By now, he has a whole book of questions in his head.
"I'm sorry, Scully. I wanted to get some fresh air and then- I had to help her. I had to do something." He's trying to catch his breath and he's still trying to catch up. It's as if someone has pressed fast forward and dropped him in the middle of the action, forcing him to find his way.
"Is she okay?"
"Oh yeah. Mother and child are better than okay. That Tinkerbell has a great set of lungs on her." And he finds he can't wait to meet their own little miracle. Can't wait to hear their first scream, see their scrunched-up face, and try to find who they look like more. He hopes the child will favor Scully.
"Tinkerbell?" Scully's amused question brings him back to the here and now.
"We'll give our child a normal name, right? No Fox or Tinkerbell." She's quiet on the other end of the line and there's no more laughter. He thinks he hears a sniff instead.
"I missed you so much, Mulder," she says quietly, her voice thick with emotion. "I was so scared when I got here and you were gone again. I didn't know what- I didn't-" She starts crying and Mulder hates that he isn't there with her to take her into his arms.
"I'm coming home now, okay? Though you might have to bail me out 'cause I didn't bring my wallet." She laughs a bubbling laugh and he smiles, thinking of her, wishing he could make sure she no longer had any reason to cry.
"That's not going to be a problem. Just come home?" This, too, is new. Scully saying what she wants and what she needs. It feels like a small miracle, too.
"I'm already on my way."

Was catching up on some tags that I missed during the shadow ban era (what a time that was) and came across a thought of yours that I'd love to hear more about:
In my One Son meta, I said Scully would have walked away if Mulder hadn't shaped up; and you proposed-- rightly, I believe-- that she wouldn't have. I guess I meant it never reached that point w/ them (even during the Revival breakup) because Scully knew Mulder would always take what she had to say into account and prove her or him right and wrong. Even in One Son, she still gave him an unspoken chance to make it right and still called him no matter what while on her way to get Cassandra from the train car.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't believe they've ever truly gotten to that unrecoverable point (well... I mean other than the fact they're still together) because even though Mulder and Scully are "messy" with each other at times (withholding necessary information from each other because of their fears, not wanting to face the truths each tells the other), their bone-deep trust wins out each time.
What say you? :DDDDDDDD
yes yes yes. because they always listen to each other, even when they disagree. they have a basis of the truest respect i've ever seen, and as long as they have that and they're able to hear each other, they won't lose that or their trust. two fathers/one son really tested their trust, which they really earned through season one giving them a solid foundation reinforced the other years. this is the first time it was so personal to them, to their relationship.
scully says something about, 'without the fbi, personal reasons are all she has left' so if he 'takes that away' then she 'can't help him anymore.' but that's really in respect to his quest if he's going to continue trusting diana. but it's personal to scully outside of mulder, which is why she immediately jumps when she hears about cassandra. her & cassandra are the only two left and as much as mulder can't give up, neither can scully (not at this point). and even though to scully, mulder isn't trusting her, she still trusts him and despite things they've kept from each other, she doesn't usually keep the work from him (only when it involves her & she's afraid to face it).
and this is why his touchstone speech in amor fati was so important. mulder finally knows the truth about diana, but he reaffirms scully. finally telling her what she needed to hear, and then later after william, "the truth they both know."
between iwtb & the revival is different. there was a fic taking place during the revival, that i should find again, that has scully pushing mulder away when he tries to get her to come home because she wasn't good for him and i think that's the only thing that could get her away from him. like when she tried to leave in fight the future. she wasn't helping him, he didn't need her, she held him back.
them being apart has a lot more to do with their individual struggles & beliefs & insecurities than it does their actual relationship. at least that's how i see it.
did that answer your question? 😂😅

A year had gone by since Dana Scully had left the X-Files behind. At first she hated the thought of leaving her job. But at the same time she rather work hard and get somewhere in her doctor filed then work hard and get nowhere in a X-File case. She knew it would be hard, for she wasn't just leaving the X-Files but she was also leaving her partner, Fox Mulder behind as well. She loved him and always will, for they shared a child together. But she couldn't do it anymore. She could keep walking into darkness and coming out of it feeling worst than before. It wasn't worth it.
Tumblr media
So, when her old boss, Skinner came to her with a case that involved traveling, Scully truly didn't want to take it. After all she wasn't in the FBI anymore and she wasn't a cop so therefore there was no need. But since someone asked for her eyes and her eyes alone, she had no choice and took the next plane.
When the plane landed, Scully looked at the paper she had in her hand and made her way into a building. Her light blue eyes looked around for a moment then stopped when she came to a room. "Mr. Graham? My name is Dana Scully. I have been asked to help you on a case..."

Day Seventeen of Steph's Christmas writing challenge. I fell behind on this because I was away for a few days. Hopefully it will be the only slip!
Marcus Pike x F! Reader. Set in the Duality universe but you don't need to have read that to read this. It does however kind of lead on to this little ficlet (Movies). Mentions of alcohol, little bit of swearing, some mild touching and kissing and references to sex. Word count: 999

Christmas Lights
"Three...two...one!"
The countdown ended with a flourish as the lights decorating the outside of the house came on in a riot of sparkle, colour and movement. They, plus the cup of mulled wine you were clutching, were helping to make you feel very Christmassy - a feeling at odds with the warmer than expected weather around you.
The invitation from Marcus's parents to spend Thanksgiving at their home in Texas had originally come the very first time you had spoken to them, but the details had been honed over the summer and now you were their guests as part of a Thanksgiving-leading-into-Christmas break that was also constituting part of the grand honeymoon spanning both North America and Europe that you and Marcus had planned together. It was wonderful to finally meet his family in person - they were so kind, so generous, so loving and welcoming and you felt at home almost immediately.
Being in Texas at this time of year was a brilliant but slightly bizarre experience - not only because of the blazing sunshine, 18C temperatures and the fact it didn't get dark at 3pm, but also because you had been put up together in Marcus's old teenage bedroom.
"Scully eh? So you always had a thing for the FBI?" you teased, nudging Marcus and winking at him when you saw the old poster on his wall.
"I wish my mom hadn't kept this room exactly as it was," he groaned.
"Hey, don't be embarrassed. She's one of my favourite characters and shes gorgeous. Lets just say that as a young person questioning their sexuality, watching the X Files with Mulder and Scully was an event!"
He smiled at you and drew you close. "Lets see what else my mom has kept in here. I haven't lived in this room since I was eighteen."
"Yeah, yeah, get your excuses in now, Pike," you joked, softening your teasing with a gentle kiss.
He held you around your waist from behind and you moved together around his room, taking in the snapshot of his old life - pictures of him and high school friends on the walls, framed photographs of him and his family against those weird marbled backgrounds professional photographers seem to favour, medals and trophies from his days of competitive swimming, posters and prints of works from Dali, Rambrandt and Warhol. It felt a little intrusive, even though you had been invited to be here. As if you were seeing the building blocks of the Marcus you now knew, a peek into what made him him.
"Oh wow," he exclaimed. "Did she even keep some of my clothes here? I loved this," he added, pulling a Boba Fett emblazoned t shirt from the recesses of a drawer.
"Try it on," you urged.
"I can say with certainty that it will not fit me," he scoffed. "One, I'm not a teenager anymore. Two, I exercise way less than I should. Three, marrying you was the best decision I ever made. But the fact that you bake for a living and I have very little self control? The days of a 32 inch waist are a distant memory!" He pulled it on anyway and it stretched across his broad chest and arms, lifting at the bottom to show off the line of hair leading south that always inexplicably did things to you. You pulled it tighter and higher, holding it around his torso and looked him up and down lustfully.
"Well, it wasn't on the list of what I thought I wanted in a husband. But I can say that you look damn good in a crop top!"
He chuckled at you and pulled you close. "I...uh...I never...how should I say it? I never got lucky in this bed-"
"Got lucky?" you giggled incredulously. "That's the phrasing you're going with?"
He studiously ignored your teasing and ploughed on, pulling you gently toward the bed in question. "But maybe...I mean...when everyone's asleep...we could-"
His invitation was cut short when he sat down on the mattress, causing it to squeak heavily and the wooden bedframe to bump noisily against the walls. You stood between his legs and watched his excitement turn to mild dismay before cupping his face in your hands. "Perhaps we'll wait till they're out. Correction-" you added softly, nuzzling his nose with yours "-with the way you fuck me, we will definitely need the house to ourselves. Maybe warn the neighbours too so they don't call the police when they hear the bed banging on the wall."
He grinned up at you and kissed you softly, his lips pressing more insistently after a moment and opening himself to you when he felt you nip at his lower lip. You gave yourselves over to each other, tongues tangling and softly exploring the other, your hands moving down his muscular shoulders while his trailed up the curves of your hips and waist, up still to cup your breasts and lightly trace his thumbs over your rapidly hardening nipples. "Well that's the thing," he breathed against your lips, "I just don't know if I can wait a whole week to have you again. I'm pretty sure the floor doesn't creak that badly..."
"Hey! Lovebirds!" Marcus's dad's voice came from downstairs. "Come down! We're nearly ready to turn the lights on! And there's mulled wine and hot chocolate too!"
You and Marcus looked at each other, giggling a little. "Mulled wine does sound good," you said. "Not as good as you, obviously. But needs must!"
He stood and held you close again, his hands now innocently stroking your back, but when he spoke his voice was low and full of desire. "Just know that I always want you. And if I have to make out with you in my car like a damn teenager, I will!" He kissed your hair and added "Maybe we can even get around to going to that drive-in movie we've been talking about..."

My thoughts on the sexuality of some of my favorite X-files characters.
Tumblr media
I posted this in my X-files amino back in June as part of a LGBTQ pride challenge and for some reason I only just thought to post it here as well.
Tumblr media
Fox Mulder: openly bisexual
Mulder is so open sexually that I really don't think gender matters all that much to him. He does seem to prefer females but I wouldn't be even remotely surprised if he had a boyfriend or two in the past. I don't think he's flamboyant about his sexuality but I don't think he'd hide it at all either
My evidence:
In the season one episode "Ghost in the Machine" we meet an Mulder's ex-partner, Jerry, and I absolutely feel like there is an ex-lovers vibe to the both of them. They hug upon first seeing each other, Mulder looks incredibly happy to see him, when Mulder says they worked together Jerry corrects him to say they were partners at which point Mulder looks over at Scully as if to see her reaction. Mulder has this real guilty look to him. When Jerry acts a little self conscious Mulder is real quick to jump in and reassure him. They get in each other's personal space. It just really leaves me with the impression that they care deeply for one another and broke up for other reasons, perhaps the different career goals as Mulder tells Scully.
We also have Mulder with Krycek. From the very beginning of Krycek's involvement with the X-files I feel like the writers went out of their way to make a correlation between the change in partnership and a new partner in a relationship. There is a scene in Sleepless where Mulder and Scully are on the phone and Mulder tells Krycek he'll be right there, the rest of the conversation feels reminiscent of two exes chatting about the change brought about by the new relationship. Scully even brings up that it must be nice having a partner who doesn't question his every theory.
There were many scenes in Sleepless, Duane Barry, and Ascension in which Mulder and Krycek were alone but that we never got to see who knows for example what the two of them got to talking about while they were stuck in traffic during the drive to New York in Sleepless. Or how often they hung out between Sleepless and Duane Barry.
During Mulder and Scully's partnership Mulder only called her 'Dana' on a few emotional occasions. He started casually calling Krycek 'Alex' almost immediately.
Let us not forget the infamous speedo scene. While yes it definitely showed more of a Krycek attraction to Mulder than the opposite. It does make one wonder what led him to wear such a revealing bathing suit. How many straight men do you know who wear speedos? My guess is few. How many straight men wear speedos when they can reasonably assume their male partner will show up looking for them? Not many would be guess.
And then there is their relationship after Krycek is revealed to be a traitor. They both tend to act more like scorned lovers than enemies and notice that it's Mulder, not Krycek, who cannot seem to keep his hands off the other. Seriously it's like every time Krycek shows up, Mulder immediately grabs him.
Now here's a couple quotes from Mulder,
Krycek tells Mulder he most be losing it because Krycek beat him with one hand. Mulder's immediate reaction: "isn't that how you like to beat yourself?"
When the little man in Humbug is lined up pretty much exactly with Mulder's crotch he says that Mulder would be surprised how many women find his size alluring. Mulder's immediate reaction: "you'd be surprised how many men do as well"
How many straight guys do you know comfortable enough with their sexuality to make a gay innuendo? I personally cannot think of any.
Tumblr media
Dana Scully: bicurious
I believe that Scully is sometimes attracted to women. It definitely is not as blatant as with Mulder and I really don't think she's had any past girlfriends but I definitely think that there is an attraction.
My evidence:
In the episode "Ice" I really felt like there are a few tender moments between her and Felicity Huffman's character especially while they were examining one another for the worms. That examination had a sort of sexual energy to it I thought.
In the episode "kill switch" theres a moment where the Invisagoth asked if she could have her handcuffs removed or if she should type with her tongue. Mulder mentions that she doesn't want a vote there and the look on Scully's face and the way she licks her lips, I definitely get the impression that she would have been perfectly happy to see what Invisagoth could get up to with that tongue.
Some people point to Scully's relationship with Reyes as evidence of her bisexuality, I personally don't see any attraction there on Scully's side but I don't think its outside the realm of possibility.
Tumblr media
Monica Reyes: Closeted lesbian
This one's probably a surprise I know there was something between here and Brad as well as a flirtation with Doggett so you would probably think she was Bisexual but honestly was either one of those even remotely convincing? To me they weren't. I believe that Reyes is a lesbian.
I kind of go back and forth on whether she's open about it. Reyes is very spiritual and open so it seems strange that she would be in the closet but maybe she has a reason, fear of it affecting her career in the FBI perhaps? It just seems strange that she keeps pursuing these heterosexual relationships she has no passion for unless she is trying to hide her true passion.
My evidence:
I admit I really have very little evidence but look at the relationship between Reyes and Brad Follmer. It had all the chemistry of two people who got really drunk once and cannot remember sleeping together. I don't for a second believe she was ever in love with Brad nor he in love with her.
Then you've got the same thing between her and Doggett. Yes the writers were obviously trying for a romantic angle with the two of them but to me it never came across as convincing. It seemed more like she thought of him as a good friend and figured she might as well date him, I saw no evidence of love or attraction.
On the other hand look at her and Scully. While I feel like the attraction there was one sided I definitely feel like Reyes was into Scully or Dana as she would call her. Reyes was willing to risk her life for Scully and yes that is her job after all but Reyes seems to take that above and beyond and it's not just Scully herself but also William. Look at how protective Reyes is of William in The Truth and of the sacrifice Scully made in giving him up. She seems to care even more than Mulder on that.
Tumblr media
Cigarette-Smoking-Man: Asexual
CSM has probably had sex at some point, he is of course the father of at least three children but I do not think that he was ever in love with any of these women or even attracted to them. I believe they were all just a means to an end.
I believe that CSM's only love was for his cigarettes
Evidence:
There is a little bit of evidence that he might have actually felt something for Teena Mulder but I don't buy it. He freely admits that he felt nothing for Cassandra Spender but he must've been convincing if he got her to marry him and we have seen him fake emotions more than once. He also seemed to show an attraction to Scully in En Ami but that too was just a means to an end. Perhaps he does feel something towards all the women he has impregnated but I wouldn't call it love. I don't see any real attraction there either. My bet is that CSM needed some "help" in order to produce his offspring.
Tumblr media
Alex Krycek: Gay
While Krycek did have an obviously sexual relationship with Marita Covarrubias he definitely didn't have any real feelings for her and I don't buy attraction either. No I'd say they were both just trying to use sex to get what they wanted. His anger at finding the Russian boy gone wasn't because he was heartbroken at her betrayal. Merely mad that she'd managed to get the upper hand.
Whether Krycek is open or in the closet I'm not sure, I'm thinking it probably depends on the mission hes on at the time.
Evidence:
Of everyone on this list I'd say Krycek is the one I'm the most sure of. There is no doubt in my mind that Krycek was attracted to, perhaps even in love with, Fox Mulder. From the very beginning there appeared to be a bit of longing in his eyes.
There was the speedo scene wherein Krycek was definitely checking Mulder out. There were several scenes where Krycek could've killed Mulder but chose to help him instead.
As I've seen pointed out before, Krycek's crazy motivational choices don't make any sense at all unless it's all in an effort to be around Mulder more.
Look at his sense of style and his obvious love for lip gloss. I am not saying that straight men cannot love lip gloss and dress themselves in Krycek's fashion but it is uncommon and it was especially so back in the 90s
The infamous kiss in The Red and the Black could certainly be explained away as some kind of Russian custom but it isn't one that I am aware of and he hasn't really shown any other signs of his Russia heritage.
I would say my best evidence of Krycek's sexuality is in Essence and Existence, just look at the look on Krycek's face when Mulder trusts him to protect Scully. Krycek knows what Scully means to Mulder and then look at how seriously Krycek takes the job! I definitely feel like that moment meant a lot to him and he would have protected Scully with his life for Mulder.
There's also the fact that Krycek's unwillingness to kill Mulder lead to his own death.
Of course asking Skinner to shoot Mulder goes against this theory but I do have a couple thoughts on that, the most sensical being that he knew there was no chance Skinner would shoot Mulder and he probably knew there was no chance he would survive anymore. Maybe he made that request in hopes of sparing Mulder any pain he might have otherwise felt at his death (I know it's a bit of a stretch but my other theories require a long explanation of my thoughts on where the series had planned to go next)
Tumblr media
The lone gunmen: no one knows....not even them
Three (I don't count Jimmy for this) single adult men who all live together in very cramped quarters and are, at least in Langley's case, perfectly happy to be around each other without thier clothes on certainly makes it seem like there's something between them all but I really don't get a overtly gay impression with any of them, even Langley who as mentioned doesn't like to wear pants and is the only one who hasn't had a love interest. They just have this sort of Vegas-esque thing. "What happens in the bachelor pad/newspaper room stays in the bachelor pad/newspaper room.
I would love to hear other people's thoughts on these and any other X-files characters you think might be somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum.

Imagine: Fox Mulder showing up at your doorstep.
Warnings!: Depression, abusive relatives (emotionally/verbally), suicidal thoughts subtext.
Writer's Note: Just in a really low place right now, and to cope, since the X Files has consumed my soul (😂), I just constantly find myself wishing and imagining Fox Mulder taking me away from it all, so I thought I'd write one scenario down 🤷🏽‍♀️. Plus the sheer lack of Mulder imagines is blasphemous! 🤣
Tumblr media
"Hello?" I asked, inquisitively.
"Hello. I'm Special Agent, Fox Mulder. I'm with the FBI. I'm here to take you in for questioning."
"What?! Why!?" My heart started pounding like mad. I'd never so much as stolen a pen from work. How and why on Earth would an FBI agent be coming to take me away?
My eyes started filling with tears and that's when my mum walked into the foyer, "What is this about?" She demanded, sternly?
"Ma'am, your daughter is wanted by the FBI."
"On what grounds!"
"I'm not allowed to discuss that here and now, but we will be in touch. Please come with me." This Fox Mulder, gestured to me and I had no choice but to oblige. He gently took me by the arm and led me to his car.
I was in such a stupor that everything around me seemed far away; sounds, feelings, even my own thoughts. I wasn't even crying anymore I was in such shock.
After we started driving, Fox Mulder turned to me, gently, "I'm so sorry. You're not in any trouble with the law at all. I'm here to get you away from those people."
Beyond astounded, all I could muster up was a quiet, "What?"
"I'm aware of how much you get abused. We aren't supposed to get involved, but I couldn't let it go on anymore with only being able to offer up comforting posts every now and then on websites you frequent."
"You've been watching me?" It's strange, but I wasn't exactly upset with his revelation. Just perplexed that anyone would take interest in me at all.
"I'm sorry, I know that must come as a shock to actually hear it confirmed that the government spies on people; it may sound strange, but I am personally against it myself. Though, I couldn't put a stop to all the things I find wrong with the government if I were on the sidelines." He let out a sigh, "Are you ok?"
I took a moment to think about that question. I decided that having this Fox Mulder basically kidnap me, couldn't be any worse than staying at home. And if it turned out to be, I was already as low as I could get, so I simply said, "Yeah. I'm ok."

i think it's interesting people consider mulder more natural to rebellion. i would argue that he isn't. rebellion in this case, i mean, intentional, with a goal.
mulder rebels because of his core beliefs/values. he can't sit idly by. scully has the same core beliefs/values but she's also a rule follower — except when the rules are stupid or wrong. which is also true of mulder. he likely followed the rules until barnett. in young at heart, he explicitly says so: 'what does that tell you about the book?' this is long after he already tried to open scully's eyes to questionable bureau policy in the pilot: why do they label cases "unexplained phenomenon" and ignore them? breaking rules & policy wasn't his default either, until he realized how poorly they often served investigations & victims, how it endangered his coworkers & the public. sometimes, rules are worth breaking or meant to be broken. she's more likely to find loop holes to take advantage of. knowing the rules so well, she knows how they can be bent. (as does mulder!!) it's how scully defends him so well. until mulder, scully was trying to figure out how to best inhabit her core beliefs & values. she went into medicine to do good, but it wasn't the right fit. she went to the fbi for the same reason. justice is important to her, a core tenant of her beliefs. it's how she came to teach and speak for the dead, to pass on the importance of what she does to others in the fbi. and she finally ends up on the x files with mulder where she's able to use everything in her arsenal for justice, for good, for the truth. she is finally truly on the side of the victims. it's why she chose mulder & the x files in squeeze. it's why she followed him. it's why she stayed. these things extended to mulder, because what happened to him & his family, his sister, was real. it destroyed their family and they didn't have the truth. no justice was served. what exactly happened wasn't known. mulder had his beliefs, based on his regression memories. scully never fully believed in the science of it to fully trust his memories. but she believes in mulder, and she believes in the truth. none of this was an act of rebellion. scully chose to follow the truth, her truth. and that is with the weirdo in the basement determined to shed light on the truth, determined to help every victim abandoned by the mainstream to uphold the status quo. mulder & scully won't let them be forgotten.
this is one of the ways they are so similar. they come to rebellion when it's necessary. because they care about people.
personally though, mulder doesn't rebel. mulder wants approval & love & acceptance. he wants to give his parents answers about samantha's abduction. he wants to bring her home and put his family back together. he lets people treat him terribly despite how it hurts him. he doesn't intentionally hurt them the way they do him. he helps every person who asks for it, even at his own expense.
and again, scully is similar but she does rebel personally sometimes. but as @randomfoggytiger said, it's a cover. usually, at least as an adult, she's struggling to accept her choices, the truth of them. that's exactly what never again and all things are about. scully wants to be appreciated for who she is, and the men she loves often don't give her that approval. in mulder's case, not in the way she wants & needs. because she's not getting it, and things like paper hearts & folie a deux & fight the future...she starts to convince herself mulder doesn't need her, that he doesn't trust her (never again & in s6), that she's only held him back, that she hasn't made a difference.
anyway, idk what i'm saying anymore. but their work is different than their personal lives, as entangled as they are.
