From 1969 - 1989, this cast terrazzo hippo sculpture stood outside the entrance of the Hudson's department store in Oakland Mall in Troy, Michigan. The work of Russian-born artist Samuel Cashwan, and cast by Italian immigrant Aldo Bernardi, the sculpture entitled Sleeping Hippo was a replica of another that had been in Northland Mall since 1954. In 1989, the Dayton Hudson Co. donated the sculpture to the Detroit Zoo, where it stands outside the front gates to welcome visitors to this day and charm new generations of children, having benefited from some restoration work in 2012 to fill in cracks that had developed over the years. So I decided to make Malon the goddess of Horses! As she should be! Hope you like her!

Imagine going to the fountain, and she finds out that you somehow lost Epona..... I would be absolutely terrified! If this is how the horse fountains deity looked. Imagine what Wild would feel like after meeting Malon? Would she react when Wild brings the chain and she sees Time? I feel like she would be like 'well I'll be... There's my fairy boy..'

Shell and Bone bookbinding (duo with author copy), June 2024.

Ficbinding of Shell and Bone by @polymathema, take two! As before, this bookbinding is meant to look like a horror movie prop, with deliberately ripped up covers and pages and fake bloodstains.

For the author copy I went about the staining a little differently and chose to use my typical bookbinding archival paper because I think it looks more grungy than standard white printer paper. I used different ink colors for the fake blood as well, and I think it looks more realistic. Yay!
