so i went into Seattle with a couple friends last night bc we were going to go see a silent movie but then it got postponed and we didn’t find out until we were already in the city so we wound up going to our favorite karaoke place since it had been a while and learned that they’ve added the capability to stream songs off of YouTube in addition to their library
so i was able to do Firewalker With Me and it RULED

idk if i ever posted about how much i like colin stetson before but i do like to musicpost. anyway he's done some popular movie soundtracks i think, but my favorite works of his are his series of albums called new history warfare vol. 1-3. his music is often very visceral and bodylike and is made using really novel techniques (that i admittedly don't understand much about cause i don't know much about music). but basically he's a saxophonist and these songs are done using multiple microphones to record his playing, but also the sound of the saxophone's keys as percussion and his voice humming as he actually plays, and it produces a really unsettling and beautiful effect. Here's a video of him talking about his techniques, it's super interesting.

these two tracks are, i think, one of the better examples to convey my favorite aspect of his work, which is how visceral it is. i can't really think of any better word to describe it. it has a very strong minimalist influence, so there's a lot of repetition but the addition of the breathing and humming gives it a pulsing/throbbing/alive quality that's grippingly uncomfortable in the best kind of way. it's like what music would sound like if instruments were alive and felt pain when you played them

my rachel things
was a cheerleader the first semester of freshman year based on her tumbling- she did gymnastics and dance growing up and was rather good, but she basically got bullied out
the sunshine debacle ... no, just... no. if put in that position to feel threatened, maybe she would tell someone the wrong time. she's competitive, but she's also intent on appearing self assured in this one thing. she wants to show she can beat her opponents, not send them out of the way
wouldn't want to run for school president / doesn't cheat the ballot box for kurt. she feels she has enough on her resume, and especially does not want to add more stress when she could be focusing on her audition and preparing for nationals, etc.
would not cause the chaos of run, joey, run… if she's with someone- she's not going to jeopardize that, especially to be sexualized, she's dealt with enough of that in a predatory way from peers (see gross jacob and also the stuff from the pilot). she doesn't seek it out. not from anyone.
she is actually vegan. not just- when it suits the writers room. in the case she gets egged by vocal adrenaline / jesse... (if that still occurs despite no run joey run...) that's the biggest violation ever to her... she's definitely tempted to let noah go get him...
og dads are canon- not new later season dads. she's raised with elements of both of their families and cultures, though she's cognizant of her privilege of how she looks...
on that same subject- the almost nose job Is canon. she Is insecure. she's still a baby. she's heavily influenced by all of the people around her and the fact she is ridiculed through high school etc. by her peers. all the comparisons with quinn do not help
is legitimately jewish. she and noah actually go to the same temple when he does actually show up. she goes every week with her dads. it's as important to her family as her excessive extracurriculars.

i keep choosing like the hardest songs possible to try to learn to make midis for vocal synth covers on. why do i keep doing this to myself. like is that reverb doubling back creating noise, vocal doubling, or a harmony. if its a harmony i'll explode on impact
#im basically as done with the growing wings/tsukiru files now#(there is whispering in the bg that i have made the executive decision to ignore in the vocal files)#(and instead just fuck around with the aspiration files in the mix instead LOL BUT im happy with the rest <3)#just gotta finish the tuning for the final covers. so the other day i started a new song#which has some crazy vocalizations in an intensely ontarian hockey rock way. the yodels. the vowel combos.....#every other note is like detuned in different directions.... its gonna be slow going this cover LOL#its so funny so like i use sv's vocal to midi functions pretty extensively#its a godsend to me. im pretty great with timing and im good at telling when somethings wrong but my ear training is. non existent#so getting the ballpark of where notes generally are helps a lot and then i can just fix it manually <3#BUT anyway yeah i use it pretty extensively. usually making multiple conversions at diff settings for reference#and usually i dont use the lyric transcription function but this time i did one to see what it would think of ontario english#dear lord it did NAWT know what to do. wasnt prepared for the vowel situation HKJDSHd#its fun tho. dreamtonics needs to make an ontarian accented vocal tho. for me. little ol me#so i can stop feeling bad when i change a beautiful classically trained 'and' from ax n d to some kinda of like#eh ey n d situation JHSKDLJKDAHJd but its important!!! its important for the song#but in general theres like a bajillion songs i wanna cover anyway. i have a playlist. its getting uncomfortably long#like. nearly 200 long... ruh roh#some are really short simple songs tho i should really practice on those. instead of trying songs with canadian vowel shifting shenanigans#altho in general even when covering a song by americans i do tend to out of habit try changing pronunciations to be closer to#the way people here say it LOL i had to reel myself in from doing too many strange things to the word 'human'#in that human songs cover i did. i wanted to do such strange things to those vowels. its my nature. eh.

Leading Candidates The Next Pope: Who Are The Frontrunners to Succeed Pope Francis?
Source
Luis Antonio Tagle (Philippines)
Tumblr media
Currently the betting favorite at 3:1 odds, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, 67, is considered a strong contender to continue Pope Francis's progressive agenda.
Tagle, an advocate for inclusion and evangelization, has significant experience leading the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and was a trusted figure in Francis's inner circle.
AN: upon further research he heavily opposes abortion and same sex marriage
Pietro Parolin (Italy)
Tumblr media
At 4:1 odds, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, 70, is one of the most experienced Vatican officials. In his role as the Vatican's Secretary of State since 2013, he has played a major part in diplomatic affairs, including sensitive negotiations with China and Middle Eastern governments.
Parolin is seen as a moderate theological candidate, someone who could provide stability while still maintaining some of Francis's reforms. His deep ties to Vatican bureaucracy make him a strong contender for those who favor continuity.
Peter Turkson (Ghana)
Tumblr media
Currently at 5:1 odds in betting markets, Cardinal Peter Turkson, 76, is a well-known figure in the Church's social justice circles. As former head of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Turkson has been vocal on issues such as climate change, poverty and economic justice.
Turkson's election would mark a historic moment as the first African pope in centuries. The most recent African pontiff was Pope Gelasius, who served from 492 to 496 AD. Born in Rome to African parents, Gelasius was known for his extensive theological writings and strong advocacy for charity and justice for the poor.
Peter Erdő (Hungary)
Tumblr media
A leading conservative candidate, Cardinal Peter Erdő, 72, is currently at 6:1 odds. A respected canon law scholar, Erdő has been a strong advocate for traditional Catholic teachings and doctrine. He previously served as head of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences and has emphasized theological orthodoxy.
For those seeking a return to the conservatism of John Paul II and Benedict XVI, Erdő would represent a major shift away from Francis's approach.
Angelo Scola (Italy)
Tumblr media
At 8:1, Cardinal Angelo Scola, 82, is a long-standing papal contender. He was among the favorites in the 2013 conclave that ultimately elected Pope Francis. Scola, a former Archbishop of Milan, has deep theological roots and appeals to those who support a more centralized and hierarchical Church.
His traditionalist stance makes him a strong candidate for those looking to pivot away from Francis's reforms, but his age may work against him.

The Rasmus - In the Shadows 2003
"In the Shadows" is a song by Finnish alternative rockband the Rasmus, included on the group's fifth studio album Dead Letters. Released in Finland in January 2003, the single achieved considerable chart success throughout Europe and Oceania, including the UK where it reached number 3, and New Zealand where it topped the chart. The song was nominated for the Kerrang! Award for Best Single in 2004. The chorus is based on the "millennial whoop" vocal pattern (named as such as it was used extensively in 2010s pop music), and is considered the earliest 21st century example of this tool in popular music. The "whoop" did exist before, but only became ubiquitous after "In the Shadows".
There are four different music videos for the song: the Finnish version, the European version, the American version, and a fourth, simplified version. A new version of the song, co-written by and featuring Ukrainian rap group Kalush Orchestra, is accompanied by a music video. "In the Shadows" was released for Guitar Hero: World Tour as downloadable content, available as either a single track or as part of the European Track Pack 03. The song was also unlockable in Guitar Rock Tour.
"In the Shadows" received a total of 80% yes votes!

nerd gojo fawning over nerd reader
Tumblr media
kinda went crazy with this one….nerd gojo in the 90's….naia u really bring out the best in me💗
gojo adjusts his round, too-big glasses—thick enough to magnify his already ridiculous blue eyes—and takes a deep breath. he runs through his mental calculations one more time.
"wonderwall" equation for max effectiveness:
optimal vocal projection: 85 decibels (±5dB)
ideal tempo: 87 BPM (±3 BPM for emotional effect)
nasal twang coefficient: moderately high
statistical probability of rejection: 12.3% (adjusted for charm bonus)
potential embarrassment level: catastrophic
this is fine. standing in front of your house, decked out in a windbreaker that is as violently neon as it is unnecessary for the mild weather, he strums an imaginary guitar and belts out:
"today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you~"
he pauses, adjusting his stance. “hmm. no, no, that was flat. i need to increase my pitch by 1.3 semitones. let’s try that again.”
he clears his throat and goes again, this time making sure to align his vibrato with the harmonic frequency of maximum emotional resonance (as determined by extensive research conducted via rolling stone magazine and a questionable conversation with nanami, who muttered something about 'a disaster' before walking away), kicking the dirt for dramatic effect, and goes again—this time leaning into the nasally britpop vocals hard.
"by now, you shoulda somehow realized what you gotta do~"
he glances at your window. no movement. he’s losing you. quick, gojo, pivot.
“statistically speaking,” he calls out, adjusting his glasses, “your chances of experiencing a more mathematically perfect prom night are significantly higher if you go with me. i have prepared a powerpoint.” he gestures at the projector he has somehow set up on your front lawn.
your door creaks open. you're standing there, arms crossed, a mixture of amusement and secondhand embarrassment etched on your face.
“satoru.”
he straightens. “yes, my beloved quadratic equation?” you blink. “what the hell is happening right now.”
“romance,” he says, dead serious. “but also: physics.”
"oh my god—"
“listen, babe, i crunched the numbers. we’re talking optimal slow dance potential, prime photo booth placement, minimum cringe risk—”
“minimum cringe?” you interrupt, raising an eyebrow. “you’re standing on my lawn singing oasis like a dork.” gojo grins. “yeah, but, like, in an endearing way.”
“is that why you’ve been calculating the acoustic properties of your own voice for the last ten minutes?”
gojo gasps, clutching his chest dramatically. “you noticed? babe. we really are meant to be.”
you stare. he stares back.
“…so, prom?” he asks, hopeful. you sigh, rubbing your temples before nodding.
he fist-pumps so hard he nearly dislocates his shoulder. “YES! the experiment was a success!”
“there was an experiment?”
“of course! and the hypothesis was that gojo satoru is the most dateable nerd this side of the millennium!”
“…and the conclusion?”
“that you are super hot and super smart, and i am also a genius.”
you shake your head, unable to fight the grin tugging at your lips. maybe prom night with a human calculator wouldn’t be so bad.
