“We were made for each other, perhaps even destined for each other. But none of this can happen. It's a shame. [...] destined for each other, made for each other, but the one who created us should have thought of something more.”

Reading The Witcher books is like:
- swords and sorcery!
- poignant social commentary
- fairy tales... with a twist!
- All Women Are Queens
- boobies!
- Andrej Sapkowski's economics degree

me, trying to write within witcher canon:
#there’s too many adaptations#also sometimes i think sapkowski is allergic to giving specific details abt canon#really what i’m doing most of the time is confidently guessing and also making wild assumptions#i like to think it’s worked out#honestly tho trying to write anything abt the trials or witcher upbringing?? the witcher wiki page on it is one of the least helpful things#idk maybe i just need to read more of the books#the witcher#geralt of rivia#andrej sapkowski#writing#the witcher fic#mine#charle talks

So canonically Ciri became a witcher not an empress
Not canon because Andrej Sapkowski ended the story with Ciri in Camelot.
Before the W4 trailers' release, I already bet on two endings that has the high probability of becoming game canon: Witcheress and Dead Ciri (not really dead but she escaped somewhere). Witcheress Ciri is Game Canon now.
And in my fanfic, Ciri ended up on The Path and became the White Haired Witcheress.
I am glad that one of the possible endings in TW3 is her becoming empress, and me (and my fellow empress enthusiasts) love expounding upon, making up scenarios of her juggling politics with the occasional witchering. And I don't see that stopping just because! That is the beauty and freedom of fiction, and alternate universes.
So I really have no issue whatsoever what ending CDPR choose to make game canon. I for one hope that the gameplay and story is just as good as TW3. If not, well, we have more material to create new fanfics.
And new art!

Writing Interview Tag Game
Thanks so much for tagging me @cinnamontails-ff @spagyricqueen and @busy-baker 💕✨
When did you start writing?
I first started writing mainly lyrics when I was a teenager. Then, I became interested in developing games and drafted a few ideas and outlines for games. But with Baldur's Gate it's the first time I'm writing anything longer.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
Not really. I write what I'd like to read. I'm not into heavy dead dove or too kinky (for my taste) stuff, so I neither write nor read it.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
I haven't been compared to any writer. I enjoy Andrej Sapkowskis stuff from The Witcher and R.A Salvatore's Drizzt stuff.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
I write mainly on my laptop. I have a very small desk and there's usually a coffee mug, some snacks/breakfast or dinner next to me and letters I have to go through.
What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?
I am a serial daydreamer. When commuting I listen to music and even at home daydreaming and music are my muse.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
I don't have any recurring themes afaik.
What is your reason for writing?
I like telling stories and it fills me with joy when people enjoy my little dancing brainworms.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?
Any comment is motivating. If I feel the story isn't enjoyed by people or if people can't even muster a keyboard smash then I do think I have failed. Artists and writers live from comments. People are right when they say we have a praise kink lol.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
Fondly? I don't know, honestly. If I leave one mark on this world even a little, it's an accomplishment.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
I believe it's a good flow and keeping character's core intact. I consumed many TV shows and movies as a kid, and it influenced me a lot, I'd say.
How do you feel about your own writing?
There's always things to improve on, but simultaneously I try not to dwell too much on it else the imposter would have my heart in its hands.
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely for yourself, or a mix of both?
I try to keep the writing as much as I envisioned it as possible. I only add stuff that might be considered easter eggs or insiders.

Ok so a dilemma I have.
Whilst yes, I do technically agree with the one dude on the news who got REALLY irate about Welsh culture / language / folklore being used in fantasy novels without being researched and being used wrongly, and him wanting anyone who isn’t Welsh to outright STOP using Welsh culture.
How many fantasy writers nowadays are actually welsh?
I feel like by telling people NOT to include Welsh language / folklore / culture in their fantasy books, that kind of actually erases some of our culture.
And that’s *because* we are so engrained in the fantasy genre. I feel strongly attached to elves and the fae because of it (and also because autism but)
Honestly. LOTR did it well. The Witcher had some lovely little surprises that made me squeak - I remember hearing witcher-elven for the first time and it flicked that internal switch of “ooh, I kind of understand this and its scritching the good part of my brain” and also because the Witcher elves are fucking awesome. Dragon Age!! All the Welsh Dalish elves and their song ‘once we were’ incorporating our hiraeth into the game was something really heartfelt to me.
HOWEVER.
And this is a big however. I feel very uncomfortable when all this welsh folklore / language / culture is used… only for the characters to be given ENGLISH accents.
It’s a huge kick in the gut. If you know anything about Welsh history, you’ll instantly know why. And not only that, but I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but where British TV is concerned…
Filming in Wales? Check. Talking about Welsh things? Check. Welsh person being interviewed? ❌❌ incorrect buzzer.
English reporters literally go to a celtic country and find another English person to put on the TV. And it’s the same with Scotland.
BBC reporter goes to a scottish university to ask the students what they think of something. You’d think they’d ask one of the actual Scottish students, right? Wrong! They pulled up the most rahh wheres my baccy daddy’s trust fund middle to upper class English kids they could, and actually spoke OVER and deleted footage of an interview with a Scottish student who had genuine concerns.
I dare say Northern Ireland gets the same shitty treatment.
So when there’s a fantasy book using all these celtic components, and ALL THE FUCKING CHARACTERS ARE ENGLISH, I GET A BIT IRATE. 👹👹👹👹👹👹
Not to mention that they never pronounce anything right.
I read a book where there is a beautiful incorporation of the welsh language, blended with Irish gaelic, a little peppering kiss of Scots in there too, and I hear it in my head as the fucking gods intended
And then I see the film / series adaptation and there’s English people butchering it. Especially when attempts are made at Welsh letters they don’t have in their alphabets or they try to speak (what’s essentially welsh c’mon) ‘correctly’ with received pronunciation. It makes me want to turn myself inside out.
It’s like being in Rivendell and hearing black speech
Tolkien had good intentions. I know that mfer LOVED my home. Tolkien gets a pass.
Andrej Sapkowski also gets a pass.
The writers of Dragon Age who worked on the Dalish and Solas DEFINITELY get a pass.
… but Acotar. Acotar.
Do not. If you have any sort of love for me, do not.
And that’s my take on it, as an actual Welsh person who was born and raised in Wales.
Whilst I won’t rip your heads off like the dude on the news. I beg of you. I beg; please do your research. And if you are going to use the welsh language, please at least have the decency to give the character a matching accent.
Also desperately begging film studios and series creators to hire actual fucking celtic actors. PLEASE.
If I get excited over one more mfer with a name like Rhys or Llewellyn or Morgana or Gwyn and they rock up like “aha rahhh I’m CkLeweCklyn” I’m going to pull a Solas and find and rip open our equivalent of the veil before putting myself into a millennia long godsleep.

For the Bookworm ask game! 15, 17 or 18, and 31
Hello!
15. Which genre(s) are your favorite?
Fantasy and fantasy adjacent. I absolutely adore Tolkien. I have enjoyed a lot Licia Troisi's "le cronache del mondo emerso", I have a really soft spot for anything Neil Gaiman, I am struggling a bit with Robin Hobb, although I am kind of enjoying her works. When I was younger I enjoyed reading a lot from Roal Dahl. I absolutely adore Stefano Benni.
I am also enjoying a lot @thebibliosphere 's "Hunger Pangs", though I bough the fluff edition as a personal preference.
I want to start reading also @xiranjayzhao 's "Iron Widow", which I am planning to buy as soon as I have some money (I am currently very poor and barely managing to the end of the month, but this one is in my list).
Weirdly enough I really do not like any of Terry Pratchett's books and I know this is the equivalent of swinging a bat against a nest of wasps. Pratchett was an amazing man, he did amazing things, but I really do not like or enjoy the way he writes.
For me to find a book enjoyable I must vibe and like the way a writer writes and Pratchett has never been my cup of tea.
I have read "The Golden Compass" and "The Chronicles of Narnia", which I enjoyed, but I need to read them again because I read them ages ago.
Anyway. Fantasy. All of the fantasy books. And I am always SO MUCH pissed off that a lot of these books are in the CHILDRENS section.
Like, seriously. Just because a book is fantasy, it DOES NOT mean it's for children. Just because a book does not contain sex scenes it DOES NOT mean it's for children. Welcome to my ted talk.
17. Favorite finished book series.
Uuuhhh if I said "The lord of the rings" I would be cheating, SO I am NOT going with that. I am going instead with the entirety of Georges Simenon's "Commissaire Maigret" tales (crime/investigation is my second favourite genre). Maigret has something that neither Agatha Christie, nor Arthur Conan Doyle, nor any other writers of the genre has. I love Maigret. I love how he incorporates a lot of personal details, I love the way he solves the cases and relates to both victims and perpetrators alike. I love his whole team of inspectors. Columbo did not invent anything, Maigret was there first. Another thing I will be probably cancelled for lol. Die mad haters.
I am also going for "The Witcher" by Andrej Sapkowski. I love that series to bits, one day I will manage to actually buy ALL of the books and finish reading it (I am currently on book 2). I love the characters, I love the way they are developed, I love their flaws and honestly I ADORE the way Sapkowski writes and I will be striving to reach that level no matter how many years it will take me.
18. Favorite unfinished book series.
I do NOT do unfinished book series. I am sorry, I need a completed book or a completed series. I simply do not have the commitment it takes. It's one of the many reasons I stopped reading ASOIAF. George RR Martin will need to pull his head out of his ass and FINISH what he started QUICKLY. It's annoying. He has no fucking reason to not finish the books. I am annoyed. Equally, I will not read a series that is still in progress for the reason that I am NOT putting in my will stuff like "I hereby request that my heirs will come to my grave to read the rest of XYZ's series so my ghost can have peace". LISTEN, READING BERSERK LEFT A MARK, NOW MIURA IS DEAD AND THERE IS NO TELLING IF/WHEN HIS ASSISTANTS WILL RESUME WITH THE STORY. I WILL NOT REPEAT THE EXPERIENCE.
31. Do you mostly read through e-reader; reading app on phone; on your laptop; a physical copy; or by audiobook?
I need to have a physical copy. I can't read for long through a screen. And also I like having a book in my hands. I like its smell and I like putting all sorts of nice bookmarks. I am now discovering audiobooks, though, especially now that my mind is struggling to stay focused for a long time. I can listen to an audiobook and do stuff at the same time and it's great. It's awesome. Especially if the narrator does their things with acting out all of the dialogue and you can HEAR different characters speaking and you are aware that it is the same narrator, but you actually heart a MULTITUDE of characters literally brought to life. It's amazing.

Because you can’t @Andrej Sapkowski and get his dumb takes on the story he wrote decades ago and it’s adaptation?
I know this is in reference to good omens but oh God, I just imagined a horrible reality where that old man actually had a social media presence. Horrible. Can you imagine? I simply refuse to entertain the thought.
