Hola a todos, sí, aún sigo vivo :P Hoy vengo a traerles una pequeña historia que nació apenas hace un par de horas. Espero la disfruten tanto como yo lo hice al escribirla. El Ángel del Sueño

Una oscuridad densa y profunda fue lo primero que me recibió al llegar… pero no importaba. Nunca ha importado que tan oscuro o iluminado esté, puedo ver cada detalle a la perfección. Veo al chico que está dormido en una pequeña y mullida cama cubierto con una gruesa manta tratando de protegerse del frío invernal que aqueja la ciudad.

Entiendo que es él por quien he venido. Lo reconozco a la perfección. Ese ligero latido en mi interior me indica que es la persona a quien le ha llegado su hora.

Me sorprende un poco haber venido por alguien tan joven. Lo examino durante un momento y compruebo su buen estado de salud y eso me sorprende todavía más. Empiezo a dudar si me han asignado al sujeto correcto. Decido posponer su partida y espero a que despierte. Parpadeo una, dos veces y tal vez han pasado dos minutos, dos horas o dos años. Para mí el tiempo humano dejó de importar hace muchos siglos.

El sol ha aparecido en el cielo y sus rayos dorados atraviesan la ventana e iluminan toda habitación. Observo detenidamente como se levanta y una vez más me deja sorprendido: su labio inferior está reventado y un pequeño corte divide su ceja derecha. El golpe que dejó tal marca debió ser tan fuerte que seguro le hizo ver las estrellas. Pero no puedo preguntar nada porque él no puede verme ni oírme. Lo sigo hasta una pequeña habitación y al traspasar la puerta descubro que es el baño. Después de ver sus ojos reflejados en el espejo entiendo porque me han designado a este chico: piensa en suicidarse. Sus ojos tristes y vidriosos anhelan una muerte piadosa que termine con todo de una vez.

Momentos después estoy caminando detrás de él, si va a suicidarse no puedo ser yo quien le quite la vida después de todo. Debo esperar a que él lo haga y si es necesario alentarlo un poco, para así poder recoger su alma y llevarla a la Luz y Oscuridad Eterna, según sea el designio de los Supremos Jueces.

Caminos a través de las húmedas calles de la ciudad, lleva a la mirada en el suelo y en los oídos una música ensordecedora que lo aísla del mundo que poco a poco lo está matando. Música ruidosa para una mente ruidosa, pienso al verlo en ese estado.

Se detiene frente un descolorido y descuidado edificio de hormigón, en la parte de enfrente de la reja que lo bordea puede leerse “Universidad del estado”, y creo poder entender el poco entusiasmo que tiene al llegar aquí: el edificio parece más bien una prisión.

Se queda de pie unos minutos junto a la puerta y comprendo que espera a alguien. No le importa el agua que cae del cielo y humedece su ropa. No le importa que los chicos y chicas pasen a su lado y no reparen en su presencia, como si él no existiera. Ese es el desinterés de alguien que perdió la esperanza en la vida desde hace mucho tiempo.

Espera.

Y espera.

Y espera más pero nadie aparece. Una vieja chicharra suena en el interior del edificio dando inicio a una larga jornada de clases. Si es posible, sus ojos se apagan aún más y creo que ha llegado el momento en que se quitará la vida. Pero no lo hace. Con pasos lentos y desanimados se interna en un largo pasillo rodeado de aulas. Lo veo tomar asiento y casi puedo sentir sus deseos por desaparecer y abandonar a todo lo que lo rodea. Nunca antes había sido asignado a un suicidio y la verdad es que no entiendo cómo es posible que quiera terminar con su vida. La vida humana es tan sencilla y compleja a la vez. Dedican horas y horas a actividades tontas y sin sentido que muchas veces reducen sus años de vida. Sus tontos y frágiles corazones albergan más sentimientos negativos de los que pueden soportar y terminan rotos e inservibles. Y lo irónico de todo esto es que comienzan a valorar lo importante cuando ya es demasiado tarde, cuando sus cuerpos son frágiles y enfermizos, cuando ya es imposible empezar a vivir porque tiene los días contados. Los humanos no han entendido que el tiempo nunca es suficiente para ser feliz. ¿Y por qué digo que no lo saben? Porque cada día, generación tras generación, veo como sus vidas se apagan sin que ellos encuentren un sentido a su existencia.

Un chico de piel morena y cabello alborotado aparece en el marco de la puerta, agitado y muy nervioso. Puedo ver como los ojos de mi sujeto se iluminan un poco. Un destello de felicidad en una oscura depresión.

-¿Me permite pasar? –pregunta, tratando de recuperar el aliento.

El profesor, un anciano malhumorado y al que no le quedan muchos días en este mundo, lo observa por unos segundos más de lo necesario y finalmente decide ignorarlo. El chico se mantiene en pie en el mismo sitio, un poco incómodo y con todas las miradas indiscretas de sus compañeros encima de él. No puedo evitar sentir una ira abrazadora en mi interior y deseo con todas mis fuerzas ser el encargado de arrebatarle la vida a ese anciano que cree tener autoridad sobre otras vidas.

El chico sigue de pie durante unos minutos hasta que el gordinflón le indica que pase a tomar asiento con un vago ademán. Sin pensarlo dos veces entra y se sienta en el pupitre que está a un lado de mi sujeto. La arrastra hasta ponerla de frente a él, como todos los equipos que se formaron con anterioridad. Soy consciente de que algo ha cambiado en los dos, algo se ha encendido en su interior. Es algo muy de humanos y que he visto en incontables ocasiones: esperanza.

-¿Qué tenemos que hacer…? ¡Mierda! ¿Qué te pasó?

Su tono de voz se ha alzado tanto que atrajo la mirada de sus compañeros y hasta del profesor.

-Lo siento –se disculpa sin sentirlo de verdad. Algo que también es tan humano como la esperanza. He visto miles y miles de humanos disculparse sin sentirlo si quiera. Y he visto a otros miles y miles de humanos tontos que creen esas disculpas y salen gravemente lastimados al darse cuenta de la verdad.

Ese chico mantiene la vista en su rostro mal herido y en sus ojos puede verse (sentirse, en realidad) un dolor infinito. Un dolor que solo las personas que aman son capaces de sentir. Esa clase de dolor que te desgarra el alma cuando ves a alguien amado ser destruido y no puedes hacer nada. O aún peor. Cuando ese alguien que amas te desgarra el alma porque no te ama de la misma manera.

-¿Quién te hizo esto, Ernesto?

El chico se encoje ante la dureza de la voz con la que se ha hecho esa pregunta.

-Erne, mírame por favor.

Lleno de curiosidad me acerco más a ellos, tratando de sentir, de adueñarme de esas emociones tan contradictorias que bullen en su interior. Se miran por unos instantes, miradas profundas que parecen decir tanto y nada a la vez.

-Fue él ¿verdad?

Ernesto asiente, cabizbajo.

Ernesto. Sé que no tiene caso que me aprenda su nombre. Sé que no debo hacerlo pero aun así lo hago. Para ser la primera vez que me asignan en un suicidio podría decir que me está yendo bastante mal. Estoy tardando más de lo necesario. Pude haberlo alentado a cortarse las venas en el baño durante la mañana. Pude haberlo alentado a que se lanzara contra un auto mientras caminaba. Pude haber hecho tantas cosas para que se quitara la vida pero no lo hice. Porque no pude hacerlo.

-Ese maldito hijo de puta me va a conocer, te juro que le partiré las piernas…

-Baja la voz, Gabriel –susurra Ernesto-. Ni siquiera es tan grave.

-¿Qué no es tan grave? ¡Te ha partido la cara! Probablemente ese golpe necesite unas suturas para que pueda cicatrizar.

Ernesto baja la mirada a su cuaderno manchado por pequeñas gotas de sangre. Sorprendido arranca la hoja, la arruga y la mete en su mochila. Puedo ver su cara de frustración, puedo sentir su desesperación. Puedo sentir las ganas que tiene de gritar y llorar como un niño pequeño. Pero no lo hace. Y tampoco puede evitar que las lágrimas se desborden de sus ojos.

-Profesor, ¿puedo llevar a mi compañero a la enfermería? No se siente muy bien –anuncia Gabriel levantándose de la silla.

El profesor ni siquiera voltea a verlos y les indica que se vayan con el mismo ademán que hizo hace apenas unos minutos. Los chicos salen del salón evitando las miradas poco educadas de sus compañeros.

Antes de ir tras ellos me acerco al profesor y susurró en su oído:

-Vendré por ti en unos días y más vale que estés preparado para el mayor sufrimiento que jamás hayas sentido.

A pesar de que no puede escucharme, siento como se eriza cada bello de su cuerpo. Detiene su explicación y gira en dirección a donde me encuentro y le dedico una sonrisa que jamás verá. Al menos no mientras esté vivo.

Encuentro a Ernesto y a Gabriel en la enfermería. Una mujer joven de piel morena y cabello castaño está frente a Ernesto inspeccionando las heridas. Espero junto a la puerta mientras ella cura con apósitos y gasas las heridas. Ernesto ni siquiera hace muecas de dolor.

-¿Quieres regresar a clase? –pregunta Gabriel una vez que han salido de la enfermería. Ambos están sentados debajo de una marquesina protegiéndose de la fuerte lluvia que ha empezado a caer.

-Sí –responde, cuando en realidad quiere decir que no. ¿Por qué los humanos hacen cosas que realmente no desean hacer?

-Bien, iré por nuestras cosas para irnos.

Él también notó la mentira. A pesar de todo el tiempo que llevo en este mundo no puedo evitar sentirme amenazado (y triste) por la facilidad con la que mentían.

Sonríe sin ganas y asiente mientras el otro chico se levanta y camina en dirección al salón pare recoger las cosas de ambos. Cuando se queda solo, su desolación y tristeza se vuelven infinitas, por su cabeza rondan preguntas que no puede responder. Trata de encontrarle un sentido a todo lo que le está pasando, trata de convencerse que todo mejorará, trata de creer que mientras su amigo esté con él tendrá las fuerzas para seguir adelante.

Puedo ver como el pasado lo lastima y como el futuro lo aterra, otra cosa que es muy común en los humanos. Siempre dejando el presente de lado para preocuparse por cosas que ya han pasado y que no pueden cambiar, o lo que es peor, cosas que aún no han pasado y que no tienen la certeza de que pasen en realidad.

Le teme a la vida y todas sus consecuencias.

A lo lejos siento una presencia extraña, la clase de presencia que tienen las personas que se regodean en el sufrimiento de otros. A lo largo de la historia han existido personas con esta misma esencia y la destrucción que han dejado quedó marcada en los libros de historia y en la memoria de miles de personas. Puedo sentirla y veo que pertenece al chico que aparece al girar en el pasillo. Se dirige hacia Ernesto, que no se ha dado cuenta por estar sumergido en sus pensamientos. En su mirada puedo ver el brillo causado por la ira, por el enojo y el odio hacia todo. La intensión de lastimar a mi sujeto es palpable en el aire y me pregunto si él será quien lo orille a tomar la decisión de suicidarse.

Decido que no quiero averiguarlo. Me planto frente al brabucón y se detiene de inmediato, no puede verme pero su subconsciente entiende que hay algo que se interpone en su camino. Me infiltro en sus pensamientos y veo sus planes: lanzar a Ernesto hacia la lluvia. Golpearlo, quizá, hasta que pida perdón por el solo hecho de haber existido. Sé que sólo basta con un pensamiento para quitarle la vida, está a un solo pensamiento mío de que su corazón se detenga o sus pulmones colapsen.

Pero es mejor que se quede en este mundo sufriendo las consecuencias de sus propios actos. Saco hasta el último suspiro de sus pulmones y cae inconsciente al suelo, no sin antes dejarle claro que si vuelve a molestar a una persona más vendré por él.

Gabriel ha llevado a Ernesto a su casa. Es un poco más grande que la de Ernesto y más ordenada. Son los únicos que están en casa, es lo primero que siento al entrar detrás de ellos.

-Prepararé una ducha caliente así que ve quitándote toda esa ropa mojada –dice Gabriel, desapareciendo detrás de varias puertas de madera.

Veo que se siente cómodo estando ahí, en una casa que le es más familiar que su mismo hogar. Se quita la sudadera que ha quedado empapada y la dobla, camina hasta la cocina y atraviesa un pasillo que lo lleva al cuarto de lavado. Estando ahí, se quita los zapatos, los calcetines y una playera de manga larga que lleva debajo, quedando solo en camiseta y pantaloncillos.

-La ducha está lista, entra tu primero en lo que busco algo que te quede.

La diferencia de tamaño entre ambos es significativa y sé que cualquier ropa que encuentre le quedará enorme. Gabriel lo acompaña hasta el baño que está en su habitación, lo observa desvestirse y noto como un nudo se forma en su estómago al ver los hematomas que surcan la piel de sus costillas y abdomen. El mismo dolor que apareció en el salón de clases se manifiesta. Quiere decir algo. Quiere hacer algo. Pero no sabe qué. Otra cosa que hay que agregar a la lista interminable que solo los humanos hacen.

-No te termines el agua caliente –es lo único que dice cuando Ernesto se da cuenta que lo está viendo. Se acerca hasta él y con suma delicadeza envuelve su rostro entre sus enromes manos. Veo como deja un suave beso en la frente del otro y se aleja para seguir buscando la ropa.

Ernesto entra en el chorro de agua caliente, el vapor es tan denso que solo distingo la silueta de su cuerpo. Sus músculos se relajan y me gustaría que sus pensamientos también lo hicieran. Me pregunto porque mi Padre habrá dado una mente tan poderosa a cuerpos tan frágiles, si me pusiera a contar cuantos cuerpos han sido destruidos por sus propios pensamientos la lista tardaría eones en ser escrita.

Presto atención a las lágrimas que han aparecido en sus ojos, a los pensamientos que han surgido desde lo más oscuro de su mente: “quítate te la vida, suicídate” se repite a sí mismo una y otra vez. Me infiltro en su cabeza y no puedo hacer que desaparezcan esos pensamientos. Lo veo tomar la navaja de afeitar que tiene Gabriel junto al espejo y en cuestión de segundos ya he salido del cuarto de baño. Infiltro ese miedo y deseo de muerte en la mente de Gabriel y con la misma velocidad con la que yo he llegado hasta él, corre hasta el baño y toca la puerta.

-¿Está todo bien ahí dentro, Erne?

Parece salir de un trance que ni yo soy capaz de entender y suelta la navaja, que cae con un sonido metálico contra las baldosas de cerámica del suelo.

No responde. Cierra la regadera y el agua se detiene. Se observa durante unos segundos en el espejo y trata de colocarse esa mascara de falsa tranquilidad que ha llevado durante tanto tiempo, pero sé que esos ojos rojos lo delataran ante su amigo. En cuanto abre la puerta Gabriel se lanza sobre él y lo abraza con excesiva fuerza, tanta que lastima magulladuras que tiene en las costillas. Entiendo que fue un error haber transmitido esos sentimientos suicidas a Gabriel pero en el momento no se me ocurrió otra forma de hacer que lo ayudara. Y ese no es el único error que estoy cometiendo. Yo he llegado con la intensión de recoger un alma suicida y lo único que estoy haciendo es postergar su partida. Estoy alterando un orden que ni siquiera yo soy capaz de comprender.

-¿Qué fue eso?

-¿El qué? –pregunta Ernesto sin entender. Él no sabe que hice que Gabriel sintiera su dolor, su miedo y su deseo de muerte. No sabe que hice Gabriel entendiera por lo que estaba pasando.

-¿Qué ibas a hacer?

-Yo… no iba a hacer nada –responde aún más confundido.

Veo como se abrazan y no puedo evitar extrañar mi humanidad. Mi vida en una época tan antigua que ha comenzado a desdibujarse en mi memoria. Lo que veo ahí es amor, amor del verdadero y que sólo una vez se encuentra en la vida. Lo que veo ahí es un amor que no todos encuentran y que cuando lo pierden pasan el resto de sus vidas buscando algo que se le parezca. Un amor que te haría hacer cualquier cosa por mantenerlo así, intacto y mágico.

Gabriel esconde su rostro en el cuello de Ernesto y se queda ahí durante varios segundos; los deseos de muerte de su amigo (¿o amante?) han sido tan intensos que no encuentra la manera de sobreponerse a ellos. Puedo leer sus pensamientos, son tan claros e intensos que por un momento creo que son los míos: ¿cómo puedo ayudarte? Dame una pista, por favor, y te juro que haré todo lo que esté a mi alcance para que puedas estar bien.

-Tu ropa está sobre mi cama, abrígate en lo que yo me baño. Después prepararemos algo para comer.

Ernesto asiente y se aleja de su abrazo. Se viste a toda prisa con la ropa que Gabriel le ha dejado y se encamina a la cocina. De la alacena saca un par de huevos y harina para preparar hotcakes, algo que sabe de sobra le encanta a Gabriel. Se mueve con soltura en la cocina y sabe a la perfección donde está cada uno de los ingredientes que necesita.

-¿Hotcakes para comer? –pregunta Gabriel al entrar. Él solo lleva los pantaloncillos de un pijama azul marino y unos calcetines de diferentes colores. Puedo ver que el suéter que trae puesto Ernesto es la parte de arriba que le falta.

-Nunca es mal momento para hotcakes.

-Tienes razón.

Lo veo tomar asiento y esperar a que Ernesto termine de prepararlos. Me siento sobre la barra y los observo con detenimiento: los ojos de ternura que tiene Gabriel al mirarle la espalda, una mirada llena de amor y compasión de la que nadie con un poco de sentido común podría pasar desapercibida.

Vuelvo a preguntarme si es lo correcto llevar al suicidio a este chico. Sí, tiene ese pensamiento de quitarse la vida, sí, ya fui asignado porque hoy va a hacerlo. Y sí. Es mi deber llevarme su alma. Pero no quiero hacerlo. Ahora soy consciente que sí se quita la vida se llevará consigo la vida de su amigo (o amante). Se llevará consigo la esperanza de todos aquellos que lo quieren.

Pasan toda la tarde juntos. Gabriel no se despega de él ni un segundo porque aún no puede deshacerse de ese sentimiento que yo le infiltré dentro de su cabeza. Lo acompaña a la cocina cuando va a tomar agua. Lo acompaña a sacar la ropa de la secadora. Lo acompaña prácticamente a cualquier habitación de su casa.

Al menos es así hasta que llega la hora de dormir.

-Sé que tenemos toda la vida conociéndonos –dice Gabriel mientras ambos se cepillan los dientes frente al espejo-. Pero necesito unos minutos a solas en el baño.

Ernesto lo mira sonriendo, con una pregunta implícita en esa diminuta sonrisa.

-¿Para qué? ¿Qué vas a hacer?

-Es privado, así que fuera del baño.

Ernesto ríe por primera vez en todo el día y decido que no seré yo quien le quite la vida. No quiero ser yo quien se lleve un alma que todavía no descubre la felicidad. No quiero ser yo quien rompa el amor que se tienen esas dos almas que apenas acabo de conocer.

Se dirige a la habitación y acomoda las mantas y almohadas sobre un pequeño sofá cama que está a los pies de la cama de su amigo (o amante). Se acuesta y se acurruca como un cachorrito y abraza una almohada enorme, dispuesto a esperar todo el tiempo necesario a su hijo. Sus ojos han comenzado a cerrarse cuando su amigo cruza la puerta.

-¿Qué estás haciendo?

-¿Durmiendo? –responde Ernesto sin molestarse en abrir los ojos.

-Te quiero en mi cama. Ahora.

-¿Qué?

-Dormirás conmigo.

-Siempre duermo aquí.

Lo observa confundido durante unos segundos que bien podrían prolongarse durante varios minutos o incluso horas. Siento en su interior una mezcla de miedo y deseo. Ese deseo ferviente de dormir con su amigo (o amante) y el temor abrazador de echar todo a perder. No quiere perder a Gabriel. No cuando es lo único bueno que le queda en la vida.

Gabriel se adelanta y le arrebata las mantas de un tirón y forcejean durante varios minutos. Me gustaría que fueran completamente conscientes de lo felices que son en este momento, que pudieran grabar a fuego toda esta alegría que sienten en sus corazones. En todos mis siglos de existencia no he encontrado a un individuo que sea verdaderamente consciente de lo afortunado que es por poder disfrutar de cosas tan banales y a la vez tan importantes. No se dan cuenta de que estos pequeños momentos son los que construyen una vida memorable. Porque eso es la vida: la suma de pequeños y memorables recuerdos.

Se detiene cuando sus pulmones piden clemencia, cuando es necesario parar un momento para respirar. Ernesto sigue tumbado sobre el sofá cama y Gabriel yace a su lado, muy cerca de él.

-¿Tengo que pedírtelo por favor?

-Sería un lindo detalle de tu parte –responder Ernesto entre jadeos y con una enrome sonrisa en el rostro.

Quiero que recuerde esto cuando sienta que la vida no vale nada. Quiero que piense en el amor que ahora late con ferocidad en su interior. Pero sé que no lo hará. Los humanos tienen esa curiosa costumbre de concentrarte en todo lo malo que ensombrece su existencia.

Gabriel se acerca tanto a Ernesto que por un momento creo que lo besará, pero no lo hace. Pasa los dedos suavemente por su rostro, contorneando lentamente su mentón. Ambos se resisten a la atracción que sus cuerpos ejercen y quiero reír por eso.

-¿Me harías el favor de dormir esta noche conmigo? –pregunta entre susurros, muy cerca de los labios.

Ernesto asiente y de un momento a otro están los dos en la misma cama. Aunque la cama no es tan grande, ambos mantienen una distancia considerable del otro. La habitación ha quedado completamente a oscuras y aunque ellos no pueden verse entre sí, yo logro captar cada detalle. Están de frente a al otro, con las manos a punto de tocarse.

-Erne, creo que ha llegado el momento de que lo denuncies.

El cuerpo del chico se crispa al escuchar esas palabras.

-No puedo hacerlo.

-¿Por qué no? ¿No ves el daño que te hace?

-Es que… no puedo.

-¿Por qué no? ¿Qué es lo que esperas? ¿Qué te mande al hospital? ¿Qué te mate a golpes?

El tono de voz de Gabriel se ha elevado considerablemente, no es necesario hacer uso de mis sentidos sobrehumanos para saber que le está gritando en el rostro a su amigo. Pero es comprensible, él lo ama y alguien más lo está lastimando. No sabe de qué otra forma reaccionar y yo no ayudé mucho en este día.

-¡Es mi padre, Gabriel! –responde y la voz se fragmenta-. Sé que no puedo seguir viviendo así, pero… tengo miedo. Mucho miedo. Tú no lo conoces… yo… sólo… no sé qué hacer.

Al responder entre hipidos es difícil entender lo que trata de decir. Gabriel sabe que ha hecho mal en gritarle y en presionarlo a hacer algo para lo que todavía no está listo. Se acerca hasta él y lo abraza, sus brazos rodean el cuerpo de su amigo (o amante) con fuerza, sin importarle que pueda lastimarlo.

-Lo siento, no quise gritarte –se disculpa. Empieza a dejar pequeños besos a lo largo de todo su rostro, en las mejillas, en la punta de la nariz, en la frente, pero no en los labios. No entiendo por qué-. Es sólo que no resisto ver como muelen a golpes a mi amigo.

-¿Amigo? –Pregunta cuando ha recuperado la voz-. No creo que todos los amigos besen como tú lo haces.

Gabriel ríe por lo bajo y aprieta más su cuerpo contra el de Ernesto. Las cosas vuelven a ser como antes, otra vez toda está tranquilo.

-Si por mí fuera, ya hasta mi esposo serías –dice entre diminutos y cortos besos-. Pero tú no quieres.

Ahora ambos sonríen pero no pueden saberlo por la oscuridad que los rodea. Se van entregando poco a poco el deseo de estar juntos y al agotamiento que aqueja sus cuerpos.

>>Hay que dormir por hoy. Ya veremos cómo arreglamos esto mañana.

Por primera vez en todo lo que llevo siguiéndolos, Ernesto es quien besa a Gabriel. Y sé que no es común que lo haga porque puedo ver la sorpresa de este al sentir sus labios.

El día ha terminado y no sé cómo sentirme al respecto. Ernesto sigue vivo y aunque eso sea bueno sé que he fracasado.

Y ese fracaso tiene consecuencias.

Lo sé.

Y lo compruebo cuando la temperatura en la habitación comienza a descender aún más. Puedo ver como el aliento de los chicos que ahora están dormidos se condensa frente sus rostros.

Mantengo mi voz inexpresiva, Haniel es el enviado directo de los Supremos Jueces. Un Ángel Castigador y de los más temidos en la jerarquía de los Ángeles. Un ser de piel pálida, rostro andrógino y cuerpo delgado que discrepa con la verdadera amenaza que representa. El recordar como despojaba de sus alas con crueldad a tantos como yo, me hastía. Era desgarrador escuchar los lamentos de tantos que habían fallado, apreciar su cara de horror al ser lanzados a la Oscuridad Eterna era mucho peor.

-Sabes que no me importa en absoluto. Pero es mi deber que lo haga.

No respondo nada. No debería hacerlo aunque tenga ganas de gritarle que podía irse al infierno.

-Hoy me siento indulgente con los de tu clase. Si para mañana al anochecer no tienes un alma, ya sabes que lo que te espera en la Oscuridad eterna.

Y aunque no lo sé, no lo admito. El calor ha vuelto a la habitación como señal de que él se ha marchado. El cielo está se está aclarando en el exterior y debo tomar la decisión de si debo sacrificar mi vida por la de un humano que apenas comienza a vivir.

La mañana transcurre y ellos siguen dormidos, como si el mundo en el exterior hubiera dejado de existir. Sólo quedan ellos dos. En su pequeña burbuja de realidad. De felicidad.

Pero esa tranquilidad no perdura.

Alguien golpea la puerta principal con brusquedad, con mucha más fuerza de la necesaria. Ambos se remueven en la cama pero tardan unos segundos en abrir los ojos. No saben lo que está pasando, no saben quién toca con tanta urgencia.

-¿Tus padres? –pregunta Ernesto con voz cansina.

-No lo creo. Ellos tienen llaves. Además, aún es muy temprano para que ellos están aquí –asegura al ver el pequeño despertador que está sobre el buró.

Puedo sentir que la tensión aumenta en el cuerpo de Ernesto. Él sabe quién es pero no quiero creerlo. No quiere aceptarlo. Trato de acceder a sus pensamientos para averiguarlo pero hay tanta confusión dentro de su cabeza que no logro deducirlo. Ambos se levantan y caminan lentamente hacia la puerta que sigue resistiendo los fuertes golpes.

Gabriel abre la puerta y al instante se interpone en el camino del hombre que ha aparecido. Son necesarias unas milésimas de segundos para que pueda entender que se trata del padre de Ernesto. Del hombre que tanto daño le ha hecho.

-¡Sabía que estabas en casa de este maricón! –grita encolerizado.

Es un hombre viejo y con un corazón lleno de odio. Su rostro está cubierto de arrugas, claras marcas de la vida infeliz que ha llevado. En sus ojos no puede verse otra cosa que no sea desagrado, ira y repulsión. Es la clase de persona que no deberían ser padres pero que aun así lo son. El mundo de los humanos está lleno de personas así.

-¡Lárguese de aquí o llamo a la policía! –advierte Gabriel.

Forcejea con el hombre para no dejarlo entrar. Tiene la intención de llegar hasta Ernesto y llevarlo devuelta a casa. Este se ha quedado en blanco, su rostro ha sido desfigurado por el pánico, es el rostro de una víctima que ha sido aterrorizada durante años.

-¡Lárguese de aquí, pedazo de mierda!

Gabriel empuja con fuerza al hombre y este retrocede unos pasos, trastabillando. Después de eso, todo ocurre en cámara lenta. El hombre hace un intento más por entrar, sus movimientos son tan lentos que podría decir que han pasado varios minutos y él apenas ha levantado un pie del suelo. “Si no tienes un alma en tus manos…”, fueron las palabras de Haniel. Un alma. No EL alma. Fue un error suyo no especificar que quería el alma de Ernesto y aprovecharía ese pequeño descuido para salvarlo.

Miro al padre de Ernesto, un hombre viejo de alma oscura. Sé que debo pensar en las consecuencias que traerá lo que voy a hacer tanto en el mundo humano como en el mío pero no cuento con el tiempo suficiente para hacerlo. No quiero hacerlo.

Me detengo frente a ese hombre de intensiones no puras y alma oscura. Pienso en su corazón, en el dolor y desesperación que sentirá al detenerse. Y segundos después lo hace. En esos pocos segundos que aún le quedan de vida puede verme y escucharme pero no es necesario decir nada para que él tema. Sabe lo que le está pasando y no puede evitarlo.

Su cuerpo cae al suelo sin vida y una profunda oscuridad nos engulle a ambos. A mí a y a su alma.

Ernesto sigue vivo.

He retardado el momento de su partida.

Aunque no puedo cuidarlo sólo me queda confiar en que aprovechará los días que le he regalado. Sólo me queda confiar en que algún día me perdonará el haber asesinado a su padre con tal de salvarlo a él (y egoístamente a mí).

Sólo me queda confiar en que él será feliz.

Night One— Safia Sauda

TW: Violence, murder

Michelangelo is my spirit animal. Why? We both have terrible fashion taste, a talent for ticking people off, and the minds of visionaries. Michelangelo saw the angel in the marble and carved until he set him free. I saw a speargun in the pipe I nabbed from Buzzkill's tent, and tinkered around until I had myself a straight shot at dinner. We're practically the same person.

I'd never built a weapon before, not in my eighteen years as a human nor my ten years as an inventor. But, thanks to the bounty I scored at the raid today, it was pretty smooth sailing. Who knew Buzzkill had a whole toolbox to herself? All I had to do was weld the pipe into a horseshoe, shove in chips of a spanner, then loop it with a rubber tube as a release mechanism. By late afternoon, I had my spear loaded and ready to fire.

Unfortunately, a loaded speargun can't make hunger go away by itself. The forest is empty of game, and the waters haven't been generous either. I've been wading through the marshes for half an hour already, and the only thing I've managed to accumulate is the disposition of a wet rat. I wonder if Caide is watching me from home, laughing at how stupid I look. He has a knack for making light of the worst situations.

I cut a glance at the deepening sky. In ten minutes, I won't be able to see a thing. Mama would probably have a stroke if I dunked my face in slimy river water my first night in the arena. Caide would probably take pictures of my sodden face and make a profit circulating them across the whole District. I'm contemplating just calling it a night and going hungry when a rustle sounds nearby.

I have to turn up my hearing aid before I find the source of the sound: a dark, hunched blot scurrying through the reeds to my right. A fowl, finally. Salvation.

I dive into the reeds behind it. It's fast, slipping and sliding through the swampland like one of those jerky, lopsided marionettes from the old commercials, but I gain ground pretty quickly, thanking morning-me for dousing my soles in traction spray. My speargun clanks against my shoulder but I'm too preoccupied to even notice the weight.

The sky is darkening quicker now, bloated and purple, and the marsh writhes with shadow. I veto my frail heart's protests and force my feet to pump faster.

Finally, the reeds part. We've stumbled onto a clearing. I spot the fowl resting by a nearby tree, shadows lengthening across its figure. Seizing my chance, I hoist the speargun to my chest and fire.

I think I hear a faint "waitwaitwait—" but my spear has already struck its mark. And there I go, sprinting towards the tree, barely containing my pride, plucking out my spear and dragging my catch out of the shadow, into the dregs of light that linger in the ripening dusk.

My speargun hits the ground with a wumph. That's not a fowl.

My fourth year in Art Fight was not as fruitful as I anticipated. I didn’t get a lot of attacks on my end and likewise I wasn’t able to dish them out as I had before. Not a lot of variety in them. On a personal level, I had quite a stressful July and resolving both personal and professional issues took all month.

"What the fuck." More statement, than fact, as a book flutters through the air like a stricken bird...pages bruised as it lands face down.

Trying to learn Hingan was pissing her off.

Thinking about the ever-increasing stakes with Caid was distracting.

He'd grin, at that. Satisfied, with the distraction.

Little Jackal, in the den of smiling wolves.

She shook her head, and uncoiled from her perch - heaving a sigh - the words in the pages of the book still swimming behind her eyes.

It was giving her a headache, and reminding her precisely why she didn't read. She’d always struggled - having barely grasped the concept as a child, didn’t help, but the letters really did...shift about.

But as she stooped to pick up the book, she paused - staring at the couch across the way.

Fuck this.

She rose, leaving the book where it had fallen - opting, instead, to change into a bikini, grab her sketchbook and charcoal,...and hit the local bookstore in the Mist to see if they latest copy of Full Metal Thaumaturge in Hingan - or maybe Battle Angel A’lita; never had Allagan tech been so...attractive.

And then? The beach.

No more questioning, no more hesitating...and no more distractions.

nova’s father never died in the car accident and helped her mother manage her bipolar disorder. nova grew up very happy and well adjusted ( and super bi, dudes ). she now studies women and gender studies at uc berkeley and works as a barista in a coffee shop near school

caid sought help and was separated from his parents as well as his brothers. he had a hard time adjusting away from and grew up in a busy household of five other kids in north carolina but found somewhere to be. he excelled in lacrosse and picked up a scholarship to boston college, where he studies biology/biological sciences. his family and boston college don’t talk much about lgbtqia+ issues tho so he’s kind of ??? about his sexuality lmao. his legal name is shiloh de luca and goes by his first name shiloh.

sang's parents didn’t die and he grew up in los angeles with his sister. he often helped his father, who was a mechanic, and eventually went to ucla for engineering but he also studies linguistics/takes classes in it. he’s relatively fluent in chinese and french and sometimes does practical effects for the theater and film programs, both within school and other local schools. mostly for shits. his sister has started her first year at yale with intent to major in economics or business management. additionally;; his parents don’t know about his sexuality and he’s kind of been scared to tell people, but his sister knows.

aelius was never taken from his parents and grew up in taichung, taiwan with an older sister. in taiwan, he is part of the criminal investigations bureau where he was part of the international criminal affairs section. he recently moved to america to work with the cia on certain techniques as part of a joint decision based on the taiwanese and american governments. some of his superiors at the cia have been interested in taking him on as a special agent because of his ability to pick up information and skills quickly, as well as his fluency in chinese. while he’s pretty fluent in english, aelius is a little shy about his accent and doesn’t speak much but contributes where he can. legally, all of his documents list him as qiangru tsai but goes by the name aelius tsai because it’s easier to pronounce than qiangru.

Best Instagrams for Men's Style Inspiration

Gone are the days you waited for your monthly GQ to arrive in your mailbox to source your style inspiration. How many pages did you have taped to your walls to inspire your next big clothing buy at the Gap? Ok, maybe I am dating myself. I made a DB sport coat for myself in some fuzzy overcoat fabric with metal buttons as a little accent. Not terribly practical, but nice over a thick sweater. Also, loving the @drakesdiary Paraboots. My auto insurance will expire very soon and I noticed that I haven't received any renewal offers from my current insurance provider. So without hesitation I visited their official site and did some new quote. Virtually, I am a new customer if I choose to purchase this quote -- which will cost me only $380.00 Two days later, I finally received a renewal offer via e-mail. Take note again that this is the same insurance company, same insurance policy coverages, same policy number -- But there's a difference! To renew, it'll cost me $518.00 To my startled mind, I made a quick visit on this existing policy account online and checked the declarations page for this renewal offer. Unfortunately for some reason, the website cannot display this said page. What's going on here? Could there be a conflict if I choose to buy a new policy with presumably will make a new policy number with the SAME insurance company? Is there some sort of money making scheme going on in here? HELP! Insurance company trying to low ball estimate?

Back in April I was driving and a lady tried switching lanes and struck my vehicle. I immediately went to an auto body shop and got an estimate for the damage, they took photos and everything. I've been contacting her insurance and dealing with this for over two months... I had to send them the police report because the woman tried lying and said I hit her, so I had to prove she was at fault. They would never return my calls. Until I talked to the field adjuster. He then called me yesterday told me he got the estimate from the body shop which was one of their recommended shops, and was mailing me the check for the damage. However he failed to tell me the check he was sending was for $1000 less than the estimate. I don't agree with this, what do I do? I called and no one will call me back from the company Also, I own my car outright. It's a 2004 tiburon is excellent condition. Thought I found a solution to high car insurance... Not so sure now?

He-yo.... I'm guessing any young newly qualified driver out there would of already found out is the shear cost of getting yer car insured. I know as I'm 18, male which supposedly makes me high risk so the cheapest insurance I got was 3820 and that's only for third party, and the car is only a 1.2 litre Renault Clio. My instructor mentioned that he heard a scheme that's being done for young new drivers, companies called: Young Banana & Young Marmalade The idea is that these companies have merged together with insurance companies to fill a gap in the market which is us young drivers. The scheme is that you buy a new car or a nearly new car with these guys and the car will come with affordable insurance. I had a look at it and decided to get a quote just out of interest with a new car. So I selected the nearly new car category and went with the new shaped Renault Clio. You can select to buy the car straight away or get it financed over a period of months with 60 being the longest, I got 150 monthly payment as the average which is just payment for the car. The first years insurance came as 1635, (got all excited and jumping, over - reacting) provided that your parents have a good record they are added to the policy for free. I was thinking that it was too good to be true, new car, affordable insurance. But then could be too good of a deal to go without some hidden catches. I dunno what makes me suspicious about these sites but the more I investigate into it the more I feel that this could become quite expensive. Car hood popped open while driving (apparently was not closed properly when I closed it last) . Damage to windshield and dents on hood. I have a ridiculously high deductible for going to pay myself for the repair. My only question is: I get free windshield replacement thru my auto insurance (no deductible).
