you let out a deep exhale and stretch out your legs before resuming your walk home, school is finally over for today, and not being able to focus on any of your classes —courtesy of a certain someone plaguing your mind— definitely made them feel longer than they were.

you remember saving some leftovers of the fruit sandwich otoya bought you for lunch, the bread will definitely be soggy by now, but that's not gonna stop you from having a snack! so you stop for a moment to take it out of your backpack, toss the wrapper into a nearby trashcan, and bite down on it. it's soggy and sweet.

you normally walk home with isagi, a perk to the two of you living in the same building, but today he had after school training with the others. they did invite you to come, but even if you're absolutely dreading going to your house and being all alone there right now, you're way too tired to sit on the cold plastic benches of the field and watch them kick a ball around for two hours.

you have a vague feeling that you missed something by rejecting to attend their practice, but when you think about your comfortable and warm bed waiting for you like a devoted husband back at home, you don't regret your decision in the slightest.

you take the last bite of your snack and quicken your pace.

you aren't sure of what time it is or who just broke inside your home when you are suddenly jolted awake by the sound of a piercing scream in your room

great, so whatever bloodthirsty killer that was around town just had to strike when you were home alone, you certainly have some bad luck...

before your body has the time to register the situation and jump up from the bed to make your escape, you realize you've heard this voice before.

is that shelley duvall screaming...?

wait, why would shelley duvall even be inside your room? what's going on??

you sit up on your bed with a racing mind, and when you see the open laptop lying right next to you, all the confusion you felt suddenly dissipates.

"oh, right..."

your usual night routine involved watching some of your favorite horror movies before going to bed, it had become something of a habit by now, so you must've fallen asleep without closing your computer.

with an audible yawn, you reach for the mousepad. when your finger hovers over the small 'x' button, the screen displays the title of the movie that was playing, 'The Shining.'

you jump when your alarm for school suddenly goes off on your phone, if the movie was still playing by the time you were supposed to wake up, you probably didn't get much sleep...

you quickly turn it off and check your messages upon noticing some notifications.

it's been a while since you last had to walk to school alone, but you aren't too bummed about it. you know you can't go with isagi since his mom drives him to class every morning, but you will reunite with him and bachira when you get there anyway, so everything should be fine.

...or maybe not. wasn't today the first day of this semester's project...? if it is, that means you're gonna spend the rest of the morning inside some unknown class, alone and separated from the only three friends you have in the entirety of your school.

with a newfound sense of dread settling over you, you let out an exhale and stretch your arms over your head, making your way to the closet in order to get ready for the day that is coming.

you could probably go into cardiac arrest right now.

when you arrived to school, you made your way to your own classroom like always, thinking the teacher would probably brief the project before assigning each student to their respective class.

so when you finally open the door, you definitely didn't expect to find the classroom exchange had already been made, and to make it worse, you almost trip over your own two feet when you glance over to where your desk is, finding it occupied by some student with long disheveled hair that covered all the way to his eyes.

it's okay, y/n. everything's fine. you didn't just embarrass yourself. in fact, this isn't even that embarrassing, nope. everyone's looking your way right now? that's just because they think you're cool and mysterious. yes, that's obviously what's happening right now—

you aren't sure if what snaps you out of your mental affirmations is your teacher's voice scolding you for disrupting the class, or the sound of isagi's and bachira's muffled giggles.

those two bastards...you're undoubtedly going to kill them later.

—so that's how you found yourself in this predicament; you're standing right outside the door of the next door classroom, how long have you been standing here for? probably more than five minutes now, and you are certain that the more time passes, the worse your entrance is going to be.

you adjust your backpack that was barely hanging onto one of your shoulders and reach for the doorknob, swinging it with a painfully slow creaking noise,

you quickly give a bow and an apology for your tardiness to the unfamiliar teacher, hurriedly making your way to the first empty seat you see, too embarrassed to spare so much as a glance to any of the students around you.

once you sit down, you're finally able to lift your gaze from your shoes, and upon closely looking at your surroundings you manage to relax a little when you recognize some faces from your own class. sure, not all your classmates are your friends, but at least you can turn to some of them if you don't find anyone to partner up with here.

luckily enough, this teacher seems to be taking the project on a slower pace than yours is, so you're relieved when you notice she hasn't told the students to make their groups yet, if she had, you're sure you would be alone for good.

you rest your head on your hand, your eyes briefly lingering on the back of the black haired boy sitting in front of you before looking back at the teacher to hear her explanation of the project.

the gods must've taken pity on you after such an unfortunate morning, because at the very least, the damned project turned out to be on a subject you actually enjoy: cinematography.

apparently, each group has to put together three movies belonging to the same genre with similar composition of the scenes, giving a summary to the plot and an analysis of the creative direction to each of them.

thinking about it, this would most likely mean having to watch through many different movies in order to find the adequate ones,

which sounds fun enough, until you remember you have to do it with two other people. two other people that you also don't know at all.

would there even be anyone in this classroom that shares the same movie taste as you? you're sure you would drop dead if you had to make an entire essay on modern-day romance movies...

as soon as you're about to drop your head on the desk and clutch your hair in defeat, you feel someone's hand resting on your shoulder—

"hey! do you have a group? if not, you can partner up with me and my friend rin."
