Since you said it's ok to send you random ask, i've always found your "monsters" design to be really really gorgeous, and I wanted to know : in any form of media you've interacted with, what's PEAK monster design for you ?

i have been thinking about this ask alot bc ... i dont ... know? theres a problem with what counts as a monster really too, most are either some sort of anthro/furry or the horror gore type of monster that instills you more with disgust than awe

i guess theres some i really like but idk if thats what id call 'peak' (though its rarely JUST the design but their vibe and stuff too);

(its a lot of zelda.. sorry)

Eldra, Farodra and Naydra (engl Dinraal, Farosh(?)) though Eldra is def my fav one of them, i like how they are a little more less typical dragon- with the fur around the neck the floppy ears and kinda goofy face yet manage to be the most ethereal, awe inspiring creature i have ever seen in a game with how they act and are presented as (in BOTW!!! do not mention anythign sonau/zonai with stupid magic pebbles to me about them i will manifest worms into your tea)

Leunen (Lynels) (botw) -i could not find a better picture wtf, fav are white and silver ones) FINE they had some pretty neat new horn designs in totk- idk i just like them alot, rather simple if you think about it, horse lion plus horns- but its so well put together it just kinda scratches my brain in a good way (also how intelligent they clearly are, like the way they fight and act and also even their death animation is so??? huh?? you are just gonna treat them like any other mindless monste- *remmbers they treat ganondorf even even worse all things considered* .. nevermind you're good)

'Beast' Ganondorf (twilight princess) its my favorite beast ganon design (even if it technically is just kinda a man boar .. again) though if ww gan had a non puppet beast form that one would most definitely be my fav lol (i will not get over the fact that some descriptions call this a hideous beast EXCUSE ME???? WHERE???) (honorable mention here, darkbest ganon from botw, pig on fire but it looks cool as fuck)

Nimbusgarde (ww) .. (engl .. darknuts?) do i need to say anything? (i could throw alot of ww design here) not sure if it counts as monster but they are not human so ????

the pathless bosses- (here in order, Cernos, the Godslayer, and Kumo) all of them are rad as hell (except for the final version of the godslayer ... liek im sorry but it looks to boring compared to any other one lol) again not just the design but man do i love them

since i dont know what would count as a monster or no i could just list my fav characters here bfmjbfmjsbmj like radahn (elden ring) is just kinda a zombie, aurelion sol (league of legends) is a space dragon, the forest god in princess mononoke, Narisha (skyward sword- sky whale)- i could go on but this post is long already (honorable mention to Omus in nausicäa, weird bugs but also something divine, though it is much more how they are treated and the vibe etc)

in all honesty though i cant think of one that i would describe as perfect, what i want of a monster design is to be ... cool but also a little weird, big hulking monsters that have something off about them and something that makes them 'other', but also not, as much as i like bloodborne, just bloody gory messes of rotting flesh, AND not just as a monster to kill, i just crave a game or otherwiese piece of media where the cool monsters arent just there for you to kill- the perfect one i guess would be something kinda big scary weird and off but while non verbal clearly not a mindless beast?

and here is the thing; my own characters do not furfill that, my designs are really rather conservative, much to my dismay, anthro of a mix of animals, maybe an extra arm thrown in- Eadrya, one of my favorites, is really just a blueish furry (yes they have fur) and their demon form is a mix of seals and catfish with some extra arms, too many teeth and a mouth that goas wayy to far (if they want) - Shargon is a feather dude with extra arms and his demon form is really just a chinese type dragon crossed with a bird, throw some darts at the color wheel, done

together with my problem of my monster characters losing their 'otherness' vibe within the story rather fast bc the majority of my characters are non human and speak and you see them in all sorts of emotions and parts of life- they lose that divine, unknown vibe and i HATE that that happens, i want them more akin to the forest god in mononoke but thats not possible unless i start from scratch

and i really dont mean to make myself look bad to sound self depre- ... however you spell that; i really am rather dissatisfied with my own designs but mostly just roll with what i got bc i never seem to be able to actually achieve what i want

even my redesigns often really make things LESS interesting (unless maybe the og was just ... human, but they are blue eyed with golden hair and white so that makes them divine you seE-), the skyward sword dragons as i redesigned them made them much more classical dragon, in part intentional bc i was drawing a connection of them becoming the botw dragons at some point, but by all means the canon design is much more weird and unusual than what i did with them, you could apply the same to even demise, his canon design might seem a little uninspired but really what did i do? inject him with some classic satan spice like that makes it in any way less stereotypical evil demon ??? lol

im sorry this post devolved into whatever this is but i really am trying to answer sincerely, i am confused about it myself, what counts as a monster, what doesnt, there must be more that i really loved but why cant i think of them, why do i design characters like this when i really want something much more different, i dont know, i feel like my brain is in a cage, why do i keep making things less interesting in an effort to make it interesting, am i falling into the corporate trap of cool sells who am i what am i doing

(theres a zelda artist with a style so strikingly genuis in shape, color and just .. DESIGN that i want to chew my nails off bc i cannot design like them, their designs and redesigns are so different yet sensical and so full of crisp shapes i have never seen before it drives me nuts and i would want to give them a shoutout but i think they dont like me so aaaaarhekjbfhgdknbgdfklbg)

Hi I tried looking into this but came up with more questions than answers. So I figured I should ask the SEKAI expert!

Do you know anything about the nostalgic 2D MV? It’s got a few strange things going on. Hasn’t been (officially) released outside of game and it has no original SEKAI characters.

There’s hardly any information about it and I think a lot of people don’t know it exists because it’s not like staff ever mentioned it.

Just Be Friends also received a brand new vsinger MV made for the game (that was actually released on YT) so I wonder if early on they wanted to make MVs for vsinger versions and then just gave up on it after two videos. I mean they did restart this recently but using their own NT versions exclusive to the game rather than the original songs.

It was animated by omu and anko did the art. It also uses the same costume as in pjdiva.

Omurice is a Traditional egg dish in Japan. Its name is a short form of omelet and rice, the two essential ingredients of this dish, it being a play on words and garaigo. When creating it the rice is usually pan fried along with ketchup and chicken, then wrapped in a thin omelet. The dish is then topped with ketchup in the end.

When it comes to the creation of omurice, talented chefs who has been cooking them invented different techniques and ways in doing so. Here are the different types of omu rice that has been created throughout history. But today we’re going to make a classic Omurice ! ! This type of Omurice is sometimes referred to as retro omurice! This is considered old fashioned and the simplest form of this famous Japanese dish. This is usually the type of omu rice that manga and anime use.

Things to ready ! !

INGREDIENTS ☆

1 bowl cooked rice

1 chicken leg

½ chopped onion

2 eggs, ketchup

MATERIALS ☆

Frying pan

Spatula

Plate

Bowl

Spoon

Lets start ! !

1. Dice the chicken and chop the onion, set aside and prepare the frying pan and cooking oil

2. Pour the tablespoon of cooking oil in the frying pan, then cook the chopped onion in until tender. Throw in the chicken bits and cook aswell till not pink.

3. With the rice bowl, mix in an amount of ketchup, then mix it in the freshly cooked ingredients. Place in a bowl.

4. In another bowl, add and beat the 2 eggs. You can season it with salt and pepper.

5. In a clean frying pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil. After doing so, lower the heat and pour in the egg to create a round omelette.

6. Before the egg is fully cooked, place the rice in the middle. Fold the sides of the egg and use the side of the pan to shape it.

7. Once done, carefully flip it over a plate. Add presentation elements like ketchup or other garnish. You can even make faces on it ! !

NEW OC!!! their name is kit and they’re a cat! they’re for my new story (which i only have a placeholder name for), called Psithurism! that name is definitely subject to change. i need something much more simple 

random details about them + the story under the cut!

- kit is one of those cats that has a super super floofy tail 

- if they were a cat species, they’d be a maine coon (my dnd oc haru would be too! they’re not actually a fox you know, but he doesn’t know that)

- psithurism is a story about kit, who one day wakes up in a forest. they dont know how or when they got there, but they know they need to get home. they venture through the forest, meeting several forest spirits along the way. some help, some try to either hurt or do dubious things to kit. 

- the forest spirits that im going to write throughout the story are based off of my most influential relationships

- of course the negative spirits are my toxic relationships, and the positive ones are the ones who’ve helped me

- this story is mostly my way of venting about past my past friendships and relationships with people

- its also a story about found family, since kit is trying to get back home

- (the line mizuki says in aitsf about family like how ‘its the most ordinary relationship in the most ordinary way” and when you say “im home” and get a “welcome back” that’s what it should feel like’ REALLY struck me)

- kit tries to get back home to their  ““family””, which really isnt their family, but it feels like it anyways

- there would be multiple endings to the story, where kit either ends up: stuck with a forest spirit (a bad one) / wandering the forest / going home

- currently i have a few good and a few bad concepts for characters

- bad: adonis, hemlock, anemone, and nettle

- good: fern, honey, lilac, zinnia, magnolia, and violet

- of course the bad ends are kit winding up with any of the four aforementioned characters

- kit’s ultimate good ending is winding up at home w/ honeysuckle

- the end scene for kit and honey is kit opening the door and seeing honey, then literally launching themself at him in a hug. then it kinda? fades out? this is a vague idea but i wanna come off with the feeling of coming home

Do you have a list of all the people who’ve done the animations for MVs? To my knowledge they’re mostly omu but I’m wondering who else there may be regularly producing MVs

I spent all day putting the credits for every MV into a spreadsheet. stats time

omu has done the motion graphics for the most 2DMVs, with a total of 43 as of posting. This includes 33 event songs that were originally released as a 2DMV (only missing Glory Steady Go!, Tricologe, Metamo Re:born, Parasol Cider, CRaZY, and Purpose), 3 other commissions (Keitai Renwa, Aoiro Enogu, and Hurray), 1 Virtual Singer MV (Just Be Friends), and 6 covers (Inochi ni Kirawarete iru., the Kanade alt vocal MV for that song, Viva Happy, Miracle Paint, Jishou Mushoku and Hello,world!)

It seems they're entirely reserved for event commissions nowadays

The second most frequent animator is OTOIRO, who has done the motion graphics on 18 2DMVs. Their first MV was Otome Kaibou, and some of their other MVs include TONDEMO-WONDERZ, Salamander, PaIII.SENSATION, and three of the 2022 April Fools MVS.

Interestingly every MV they've worked on has had a director and they're usually the animator on MVs with a bigger production team (aside from the traditionally animated ones like Gunjou Sanka and NEO which don't have motion graphics, and also Tokugawa Cup Noodle Kinshirei)

Next would be Lye, who has worked on 11 MVs. The first MV they worked on was Jackpot Sad Girl, but their other works include Traffic Jam, STAGE OF SEKAI, and Twilight Light.

There's multiple MVs made by motion graphics artists from a group called THINGS. One of these animators is Akito Nakayama, who has worked on 6 MVs, the 4th most out of anyone. Some of the MVs he worked on were Shoujorei, IDSMILE, and the April Fools Venom cover

Another member of THINGS has started working on MVs recently, and I've seen a lot of people say they're one of the best editors we've had. That would be NUL, who did the animations for Darling Dance, purpose, and DAYBREAK FRONTLINE

3 other members of THINGS have worked on MVs. Takumi Osera worked on the April Fools MV for Positive☆Dance Time and the vsinger MV for potato ni Natte iku, ZIIEK worked on Amanojaku, and Hano worked on Cutlery

Another editor that's popped up recently is Aoespring, who did the Villain and Fixer MVs. (on Fixer they're credited with (STUDIO KAIBA) which I'm assuming is a studio they belong to, not sure why it's only listed on one of their MVs though)

The only other editors to have done more than one MV are Ikumi (magic number, ray, Doctor=Funk Beat, Phony), Norainu (Glory Steady Go!, Cosmospice, Parasol Cider), Mizuki (Time Machine, Cinema, Chururira) and Guu (Warera Stain Busters!, CRaZY)

There are actually 10 MVs that don't credit an animator. These are Fragile (Bad Dogs cover), Hibana -Reloaded-, Happy Synthesizer (MMJ cover), Bocca della Verità, Sweet Magic (WxS cover), Roku-chou nen to Ichiya Monogatari, Chikyuu Saigo no Kokuhaku o, Positive☆Dance Time (WxS cover), Ren'ai Saiban, and Aishite Aishite Aishite. The last one does credit a text animator and compositor though so I guess one of them edited the rest of the video (the compositor probably would've done it)

Japanese Omurice from Rokuhoudou no Yotsuiro Biyori

I always love new takes on ‘classic’ food, as well as food which hold a special memory/meaning to a character. This was the first dish served before they opened the restaurant for real - when someone was disappointed that Sui’s grandpa’s cafe was not open anymore - made with whatever was left in the kitchen.

Ingredients (for 2)

100 g butter

1 carrot, diced

1 yellow onion, diced

100g shirasuboshi (pic below) Basically small whitebait?

225 ml short grain japonica rice, uncooked

Men Tsuyu - get the whole bottle ready. (Noodle soup base for dipping cold soba/udon into. It’s basically soy sauce mixed with dashi, so you can approximate your own if you don’t have a Daiso nearby where it’s just $2.)

2-3 eggs per plate, beaten. (depending on size of eggs. You need a good fluffy omelette. So 4-6 eggs if you’re cooking for 2 people.)

1.5-2 tbsp starch (katakuriko)

For Garnish

¼ daikon radish, peeled and grated.

Seaweed (nori) strips (or cut your own)

Spring Onions, chopped.

Method

Set the rice to cook in your rice cooker! (This will take at least 20 mins so you can do all the other prep work in the meantime.)

Melt butter in pan.

Add in the onions and saute on low heat till transparent.

Add in the carrots and saute until slightly soft.

Add in the shirasuboshi, and stirfry for about 2-3 minutes.

Add in the rice, and toss well to mix.

Add the tsuyu to coat the rice to taste.

Remove rice from pan onto plates.

Heat the pan again with some oil or butter.

Pour the beaten eggs (plate by plate) into the pan and keep stirring your spatula, as if cooking scrambled eggs. But stop when the eggs start to solidify, so that you still get a good thick creamy omelette.

Cover the pan so that the top of the egg cooks after that for about 30 secs-1min.

Slide egg onto rice to cover it.

Repeat 9-12 for other people’s plates.

Dissolve the starch in 300ml of water, and put it into the pan.

Add the tsuyu to taste again and cook, stirring so it doesn’t clump, until the sauce is thick!

Pour sauce over the omelette and rice.

Garnish with radish, seaweed, and spring onions! I found that using a ladle to make a depression at the top of the mound helps the radish sit better.

Serve with green tea and enjoy! Good for people who hate fish!
