#JackedKirby - The Psychic Bloodhound!!! 👀👀👀 DC has a new 1400+ page omnibus of Jack Kirby’s Bronze Age work that just hit stores. It carries a $100 plus price tag (you can find it for under cover price online... shop around!) but it is JAM PACKED with a ton of stuff that has not seen reprint in quite a long time (or in some cases never reprinted at all!). One of the coolest additions to this collection is a single story from #Issue 6 of Forbidden Tales of the Dark Mansion (August of 1972) called The Psychic Bloodhound!!! 👀👀👀 The story, written/drawn by Kirby and inked by Mike Royer, appears in a split anthology book and tells the story of Karl Burkel, a psychic mind reader who the cops consult often to solve cold cases with no leads. He is able to access this power by touch... if he can make contact with a person he can gain a visual insight into that person and their activities (Pic 1/2). We get an incredible trademark Kirby “eye shot” of Burkel’s intense eyes as he is focusing his powers in Pic 1... 👀👀👀 In Pics 3/4 we see Burkel’s power in action again... specifically a three panel sequence where Kirby uses what seems to be X-Ray overlays to illustrate the action of reading the subjects minds (Pic 4). This sequence is incredible... 👀👀👀 The story was intended to be published in Spirit World #issue2 but Kirby’s supernatural tabloid size magazine never got a second issue... so the unused story was put to good use in this anthology comic, of which Kirby had worked on hundreds of similar issues back during his time at Timely/Atlas/Marvel. Hi, Everybody. This is a quick post to say that I have a #Kickstarter launching today, and the first day is apparently the most important, so I have been asked to post ahead of time to ask for your support. . I'm part of a team of twenty-five Indie comic book writers & artists who have pooled their talents to create a volume called “Modern Mythology : The Hero’s Journey”. It is an anthology #GraphicNovel with over 150 pages and many different stories. Each of the sixteen chapters re-tells an ancient Hero myth in a modern setting. My story resets #VasilisaPrekrasnaya's encounter with #BabaYaga in contemporary Russia, reimagining the old forests of myth and legend as having been eaten by an ever expanding Moscow. . Now that all the work is done we are launching the Kickstarter in a couple of hours, so that we can cover the costs of printing and shipping the book. I don't understand all the ins & outs of Kickstarter, but the Editor who organized this project assures me that a big first day is one of the most important keys to #KS success. . #JackedKirby - The Living Colossus en Espanol!!!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Viva la Mexico.... especially when it comes to classic reprint comics baby!!!! Here we have #Issue162 of El Hal Con Negro, published sometime in 1962 (finding an exact month of release has proven tough!) and featuring art that may seem familiar to Kirby aficionados. 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 The art comes from Tales of Suspense #Issue14 that was published in February of 1961... but in a strange turn of events the Mexican Reprint seen in Pic 1 used the opening splash page of the Tales of Suspense issue instead of the original cover art! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Pic 1 shows the Mexican Reprint, and Pic 2/3 show the excellent interior splash page art in its inked and originally colored form. El Hal Con Negro was a continuation of another Mexican reprint title, El Hal Con Oro, which was a long running reprint series that featured DC comics Blackhawk military series through the years.
