#anti maegelle targaryen

Please tell me more of your thoughts on maegelle, maybe it’s cause I’m new to the Fire and Blood side of the fandom but I’ve never seen anything deeper about her maybe being negative. Especially in regards to her mother/family. I’m quickly becoming Saera girlie and I wonder if Magelle’s role in the church might’ve contributed to her sister’s “”rehabilitation”” being bad enough to have her leave the continent.
Okay so the thing here is that she does to Alysanne what Jaehaerys does to Alyssa, which is force/cajole their mother into taking back and living with a man who has publicly humiliated her and made incredibly clear he has no respect for her, but we only really whack Jaehaerys for this. The first quarrel is more personally egregious to me because it's only Alysanne who must bite her tongue here and not Jaehaerys - she is not asking for anything extreme here! Her daughter committed the heinous crime of fucking before marriage, it's been like three years, and three of their daughters have subsequently died, but he hasn't calmed down at all about Saera. Alysanne even tries to compromise by just asking to fly to Lys to visit her and he forbids her from seeing her own fucking daughter. That's an insane level of abuse. And what does Maegelle do? Well she tells her parents that they need to keep up appearances and be seen in public together. Reminds me a lot of show alicent's "you may slap him about as you like at home but out in public we must be united" comment - essentially, Maegelle is telling Alysanne she has to cope with being barred from seeing her daughter and grieving her losses properly to keep up appearances. I mean fuck, maybe Alysanne genuinely wanted a divorce from Jaehaerys. Maybe at that point she was so distraught she wanted Jaehaerys to take a lover, and replace her, and leave her the hell alone so she could be with Gael or otherwise just go to Lys anyways. But Maegelle puts a stop to all of this by invoking Rhaenys' wedding and how they need to look united. Ghastly behavior.
BUT THEN. Less than two years later, Aemon dies and Jaehaerys names Baelon heir. And look, Alysanne is 100% right to be pissed the fuck off at Jaehaerys for naming Baelon - from our several comments about Rhaenys being called "our future queen", the fact that Aemon and Jocelyn never have any other kids, I think the fact that Rhaenys has a dragon as well, all of that makes very clear that everyone is sort of expecting Rhaenys to carry on the Targaryen line in some form or another. Beyond that, Jaehaerys knows damn well that Alysanne has historically been touchy about this - see her comments about little Daenerys. Jaehaerys, with this move, makes it clear that he had never planned for Rhaenys to be queen at all and was misleading everyone. This one is on par with Rogar's nonsense imo because it's so public and everyone knows how Alysanne feels about the succession. He doesn't talk it over with her after she's lost a son btw, he just announces it and takes everyone by surprise.
AND THEN ONCE AGAIN. HERE COMES MAEGELLE. "mom just get over it." And again, what does Jaehaerys give up here? Nothing. He's either sending Maegelle or he's just straight up leaving Alysanne alone and assuming she'll come back to him? It's just nasty. She's losing the ability to walk, to ride her dragon, to remember people's names, she's barred from seeing Saera, she's got a daughter the age of her grandchildren because Jaehaerys forced her to have another child, and she's not even allowed to just spend her last years on Dragonstone being left to age with what dignity she has left. No, she has to be at court, she has to be by her husband's side, because That's Her Place. It's just as smug, just as cruel as Jaehaerys forcing Alyssa to Rogar's side - and the cruelty, in my opinion, is the point here. "You made your bed now lie in it" type behavior, towards a woman who has just been publicly disrespected, who is grieving her dead children.
So anyways, do I believe Maegelle was just as viciously cruel to Saera and that's part of why Saera ran away? I can absolutely believe that yes. I think we see that a lot with Septas to be honest - women who get a thrill out of torturing other women who don't conform properly. Mordane actively eggs on the gap between Arya and Sansa until it becomes a gaping chasm, Moelle and Unella are happy to take orders that involve them sexually humiliating Margaery, her cousins, and Cersei and take a sort of sick glee out of doing it, so I don't think it's exactly far off to say Maegelle had a cruel streak in her that came out when it came to the women in her family not conforming properly. I think we can also take into account George's general distate for religion and Catholocism specifically and the way the Septas work as nuns, and the way nuns were like, insane at various catholic schools. I think there's an interesting play here right - that Jaehaerys can look a mother who put her own life on the line to make him king and hand her right back to the husband who hates her to die having his kids, because he's being vindictive and cruel about her having the audacity to remarry without his permission, and Maegelle looking the mother who has ruled capably and given her the space to be what she wanted to be, and hand her right back to the husband who clearly has no respect for her whatsoever, because she's cruel and believes a woman is not allowed to have differing opinions from the man who currently owns her. It doesn't matter what Alyssa or Alysanne personally did for the two of them; they're women, and they have no right to disagree with the men around them.

What you're favorite female Targ says about you
(For simplicities sake, I'll only mention the ones who have the last name Targaryen but I'll be skipping out on ones we don't know enough about from Daenerys of Dorne to Egg's daughters.)
Daenys - You hyperfixate on long dead characters who did 1 important thing that changed the history of the world.
Visenya - You want to bed her AND you want to be her at the same time. You heard "dark, sensual, unforgiving" and found it the sexiest description ever. You almost see her as a goddess rather than a person, you practically worship her.
Queen Rhaenys - You love a women with duality. You respect House Targaryen's matriarch for having hobbies, having fun with pretty boys, & burning entire armies. You also hate the Dornish.
Rhaena the Black Bride - Fat chance you aren't straight. You think she should have been Queen regnant (you'd be 100% right) & you're a Maegor & Jaehaerys's anti. You have a soft spot for sexy sad women
Alysanne - You love a girlboss who can manage motherhood & a 9 to 5 job. You also appreciate how she's the only Targaryen who fought for SEVERAL WOMEN's rights, not just her own.
Aerea - You're a rebellious teen who had a rough upbringing. Her death broke you because you know she deserved so much better.
Septa Rhaella - Are you sure your favorite character isn't just Rhaena?
Alyssa - You also want to ride 2 dragons (Meleys & Baelon).
Maegelle - You love a good nun.
Daella - You're want someone to take care of you for your whole life, except unlike Daella, you're not scared, you're just lazy.
Saera - You love a girl who serves cvnt (quite literally). You're the biggest Jaehaerys hater.
Viserra - You're incredibly pretty and incredibly petty. You know how the world hates to see pretty girls winning.
Gael - You probably have a helicopter parent.
Rhaenys the Queen who Never Was - You're a feminist & you love girlbosses. You 100% hate Jaehaerys and you have 0 love for Viserys I who you think she should have been Queen instead of.
Rhaenyra - You're a feminist & you were 100% the favorite child growing up. If you have a step-parent or half-siblings, you definitely hate them.
Helaena - You're probably a show enjoyer first & foremost. You probably simp for Aemond who you ship her with.
Baela - You might be a tomboy but not the "not like other girls" type of tomboy. You probably like at least 1 sport though & you're definitely a girl's girl.
Rhaena of Pentos - You love pretty aesthetics & Barbie was probably you're favorite movie of 2023.
Jaehaera - You hyperfixate on tragic minor characters. Bonus points if you're neurodivergent.
Naerys - You're either a sad catholic girl or you hyperfixate on tragic female chracters.
Daena - You love baddies who don't take anyone's shit. You might have grown up in a toxically religious household.
Septa Rhaena - You think Baelor the Blessed was the best Targ King.
Elaena - You like a woman with a brain.
Queen Rhaella - You hyperfixate on tragic female characters.
Daenerys - You love a bad bitch (affectionate) and you will not apologize. You also genuinely have good taste & hated GoT season 8.

Why people hate dany and targs in general so much? Even the ones who claim themselves as supporters usually shy away from incest and blood purity thing. And people kind of assume that 300 year (mad) targ rule was very bad while we aren't given a single other example for comparison except robert's one. Which IMO was as bad as any monarch could be
Because they're cooler and more interesting than their boring a** faves. If there's one thing the "intellectuals", incels, and karens of the fandom love is some goo'ol fashion DuTy and characters acting like robots. Rule is: you displayed emotion you are henceforward dumb/stupid. Also, never forget kids, it's only wrong if a Targaryen did it! Which is why they don't like the Targaryens... well most of them. Hence why you have certain Targaryens who are ok to like because they... well were kind of boring in a sense? Way into religion or duty and/or being a punching bag. Those are the fandoms pre-approved Targs like Naerys, (asoiaf canon) Helaena, Maegelle... Vaegon. Elaena can be liked too but she needs some work, like saying her rumoured "affair" with Aegon IV was SA, 'cause you know, we can't have a character enjoying seggs for nothing else than good ol' DuTy. They also tend to like Daeron II, and I actually think he was a very cool dude but the reason they like him is because they think he bent the knee to Dorne in a sense, and because they probably see his marriage to Myriah as one of DuTy instead of love and passion; plus bonus points for him for his beef with Daemon B who was very Targaryen. They will also like Targaryens who in a sense "cleansed" themselves from their original sin (of being a Targaryen) by marrying people from outside their house. Some examples are Rhaenys (Aemon's daughter) and Rhaelle (Egg's daughter who married a Baratheon). Daella they could like - since she married a Arryn - BUT Daella was very emotional and Rodrick was buddies with the Devil aka Jaehaerys, so they can't like her.
We actually have an example before: how Westeros was divided and always waring BEFORE the Targaryens :D but that sh:t isn't really very convenient to bring up.
Bottom-line: Logic isn't really strong with this lot, so let's just let them be. We do have something in common with the antis, which is that we love to spend time with House Targaryen. Difference is, we're having fun, and they are spreading hate and many times misinformation as well. But anything so they can have a parallel of their fav with their "good" Targaryen of choice, or between another character they dislike and a "bad" Targaryen just to hammer down how bad that Targaryen is :(

i have this theory that if more of her children had lived (especially gael), alysanne would have expressed anger at baelon for going along with stealing rhaenys' inheritance.
but at this point she literally only had baelon, so she decided to swallow her pride and support him.
what do you think?
Well we actually don't know if Alysanne expressed anger at Baelon over this; the narrative is largley silent on Baelon's reaction to being named Prince of Dragonstone and completely silent on how Alysanne treats Baelon, Viserys, and Daemon afterwards. Also, Gael dies several years after Baelon was named; in fact, Gael dies two years after Rhaenyra is born, so Viserys and Baelon are already well entrenched in the capital. Alysanne is also not shy about expressing her anger at her husband in this time period and it seems implied she doesn't really express any affection for Viserys during or even after the second quarrel; there's no mention as to whether she returns from dragonstone for the wedding, whether she's there for rhaenyra's birth, whether she had a hand in viserys or aemma's match even - and we still don't know if daemon's match with rhea royce is the result of alysanne, baelon, or jaehaerys either. beyond that, alysanne is actively campaigning for rhaenys at several points so i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to say she is pissed off at baelon - it's just that none of the biographers give a shit about that aspect of her life, because that complicates her from the perfect mother, perfect queen, who uses soft power, to a woman who is deeply hurt and betrayed by the two men she is shown to be closest by, and that it completely ruins the twilight years of her life.
with daella, alyssa, and viserra all long dead, aemon recently dead, and long barred from seeing saera, yeah, all alysanne has left is baelon and gael, along with maegelle and vaegon, but i do think that's part of the problem; both times, i get the sense that maegelle is like,,,,basically gaslighting her mother into going back to jaehaerys, and maegelle is the only person alysanne really has left talk to, with gael being kind of an eternal child and baelon being part of the reason she's so upset. so i actually kind of disagree here - i think alysanne likely did voice anger at baelon, and baelon, alongside maegelle, basically told her to just get the hell over it, and it took several years of alysanne slowly getting more sick, slowly losing more of her memory, losing her physical connection to her dragon, and probably rewriting her own memories of her relationship with jaehaerys before she finally was broken down enough by the ungrateful brats she had left to "forgive" jaehaerys and come back home, but even then, it seems unlikely she and jaehaerys were at all close past this point, and we get very little mention of alysanne being close to baelon again. i think towards the end of her life, alysanne really was just not in contact with much of her family besides gael, rhaenys, and maegelle, and she's being like, actively manipulated in some heinously elder abusey ways by maegelle on top of being an older mother.

Dark sister is described as being a woman's sword due to its build and lighter weight. Clearly it was made for women, primarily. Visenya was a warrior and Rhaenys was enough to go into battle alone several times. They even ruled from IT. were much more powerful than any hand. Why did the subsequent generations of targaryen women become so for the lack of a better word - pathetic. Even the ones with dragons. Only Rhaenyra seems to live upto the reputation of a dragon. And like most powerful women all 3 (Visenya, Rhaenys and Rhaenyra) are smeared for anything the maesters can dream up of. Same is now happening with Danaerys in adwd.
Hi there Anon 🤗
While I completely respect your opinion I have to disagree. No way are the likes of Rhaena (Aenys’s daughter), Alysanne, Alyssa T, Maegelle (I don’t particularly care for her but I have to admit she didn’t lack for braveness), Rhaenys the Queen Who Never Was, or Baela Targaryen what I would ever call pathetic. All of them were strong women who either were not afraid to fight on their dragons (i.e., Rhaenys and Baela), made a real change in people’s lives and helped those in need, even at personal peril (i.e., Alysanne and Maegelle), lived fearlessly and unashamed (i.e., Alyssa T, Baela, Rhaena), or were afraid to put men in their place and get their claws out when necessary (i.e., Rhaena).
As for Rhaenyra, as much as I admire her resilience and how unafraid she was, I have to be real and say she was pretty much calling the shots from behind Daemon (for the most part). The Greens were not wrong when they said he their biggest threat, for the Rogue Prince was without a doubt the Realm’s Delight most powerful weapon.
As for why Rhaenyra, Visenya, Rhaenys, and currently Dany were the preferred targets of bullsh:t you are absolutely right in my opinion. The four of them knew more power than the rest of the queens, Rhaenyra and Dany because they were queens in their own right - not consorts - and Rhaenys and Visenya because while they were not queens in their own right, they were certainly more than Aegon’s consorts. Not even Alysanne knew the kind of power they did. Of course this would annoy many of the men (and women) of their days and they would want to get their smear companies up and running.
You know there’s nothing like calling a woman a wh0re or trying to make her one to just make the men (and women) feel better! Or insult her looks! Or make up rumours about them! Or say they were as bad as the men when they didn’t do 1/10 of what they did! And this propaganda worked so well you have people on this fandom calling themselves their “fans” repeating it and in some ways putting the likes of Mushroom to shame.
My good people, if you ever find yourselves making Mushroom look tame in comparison it is time to f_cking stop and access the situation.
Tumblr media
Just imagine what they would make of Dany if by any chance her story was told in the same style as Fire and Blood *shudders* “Intellectuals” out there would be adding elephants to the horses they said she laid with 😂😂😂 and as for painting her as a villain I mean... insane antis already compare her to Hitler (I am laughing at the lack of IQ points as I type this) so... I mean... Yeah let’s not even try to guess what they would say. My guess (guess guess wink wink 😌 I will show myself out) is that our best guesses would not even come CLOSE to the levels of utter insanity.
All the best to you Anon 🤗
