"EARLY 19TH CENTURY DIAMONDS 'EARS OF WHEAT' TIARA, ATTRIBUTED TO NITOT   EARS OF WHEAT or épis de blés in French, were one of the most prominent decorative themes in jewellery under the First French Empire. This period was stylistically marked by a revival of classical antiquity, inspired by recently excavated archeological sites such as Pompei and Herculaneum. In fashion this translated into simple dresses with high waistlines that were a canvas for elaborate parures. Ears of wheat are an attribute of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, the harvest, fertility and prosperity. Ears of wheat were often executed as separate diamond, gold and silver brooches that could be arranged freely on a dress or hairstyle, either separately or bundled as wheat sheaves.   PAULINE BORGHESE (1780-1825) was the second sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. Her first husband, General Charles Leclerc, died after only a few years of marriage. In 1803 she married Camillo Borghese, Prince of Sulmona. Pauline Borghese was known for being fun-loving and extravagant, as suggested by the famous statue of her realized by Antonio Canova. She was also the only Bonaparte sibling who always remained faithful to Napoleon and visited him in exile on Elba. The provenance of lot 1 can be traced back to Pauline Borghese through family inheritance." Tiaras of the future Queen Mary
I love a good list and @duchessofostergotlands requested one of the tiaras that Mary will wear as queen. As usual I had a lot to say.
Crown Jewels
Queen Caroline Amelie's Emerald Tiara
Tumblr media
Denmark is unusual among modern monarchies in that they still have wearable jewelry in their crown jewels. There is a diamond set, a pearl and ruby set, and of course the beautiful emerald parure. This tiara cannot be taken outside of Denmark and is only worn by the queen. I really hope Mary wears it for her first official portrait as queen.
Major Tiaras: Non-Restricted
Princess Louise's Pearl Poiré Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara has only been worn by Queen Margrethe during her reign but previously was worn by crown princesses and princesses. It is a very important tiara but I wouldn't mind Queen Mary loaning this one occasionally to other people like Christian's future wife.
Queen Désirée's Ruby Parure Tiara
Tumblr media
Queen Ingrid kept this tiara even after her husband passed and then left it to Crown Prince Frederik for his future wife so it was never worn by Queen Margrethe. I expect Crown Princes Mary will continue wearing this tiara for now as the parure was extensively remodeled to suit her. When Christian marries, she may decide to pass it on to his wife establishing it as the de facto crown princess tiara, keep wearing it herself, or ideally keep wearing it while also loaning it the future crown princess.
Minor Tiaras
We don't yet know how Queen Margrethe will handle passing on her jewelry. In other countries with recent abdications, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands still attends tiara events but Queen Paola of Belgium and Queen Sofia of Spain do not. If Margrethe decides to keep attending them she may hold on to some of these for a while.
Grand Duchess Louise of Baden's Palmette Tiara
Tumblr media
This isn't my favorite tiara in the Danish vault because of the way it ends so abruptly instead of tapering off. Queen Mary's going to have to pull off some great tiara hair to cover that up.
Crown Princess Margaret's Turquoise Daisy Tiara
Tumblr media
Queen Mary looks good in turquoise but I'm really looking forward to seeing this tiara on Princess Isabella and Princess Josephine.
Queen Ingrid's Floral Aigrette Tiara
Tumblr media
I've loved the way Queen Margrethe played around with this tiara but I am looking forward to Queen Mary putting it back on a tiara frame like Queen Ingrid wore it.
Queen Margrethe's Naasut Tiara
Tumblr media
Queen Margrethe was given this tiara by Greenland in 2012 and I have been waiting for day it is worn by Queen Mary. I think the delicate gold flowers are really going to look great against her dark hair.
Personal Tiaras
Wedding Tiara
Tumblr media
Queen Margrethe gave this tiara to Crown Princess Mary as a wedding gift and Mary later had optional pearls added.
Ruby & Spinel Necklace Tiara
Tumblr media
Mary bought herself this tiara at an auction and debuted it 2015. I think it was a very smart move because it was only 8050 EUR (probably less than some of her gowns) and it will be a great piece for her children to wear in the future.
Tumblr media
Every country and monarch handles jewelry a little differently. Queen Margrethe gave each of her daughters-in-law a tiara but did not share any of her tiaras with them. She did share with her nieces (the daughters of her two sisters) when her sisters didn't have enough tiaras to loan them for events. I would like to see the future King Frederik X and Queen Mary change how the jewelry is dispersed.
First of all they need to stop giving away jewelry. The mainline has already lost the Queen Alexandrine's Diamond Drop Tiara to the Countess of Frederiksborg and Princess Dagmar's Diamond Floral Tiara to Princess Marie. Those are both beautiful, versatile tiaras that would have served the family well in the future. In the previous generation, Princess Benedikte was given Queen Sofia's Star & Pearl Tiara and her Floral Birthday Tiara made from other jewelry and Queen Anne Marie was given Crown Princess Margaret's Khedive Tiara and her Antique Corsage Tiara made from other jewelry. There's no reason to give away tiaras anymore to people whose descendants will have little reason to wear them.
Then to make up for not giving away any jewelry there needs to be more sharing! I don't want to see the same person wear the same tiara to every event. Queen Mary will have the Emerald Tiara exclusively and then may choose to keep the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Ruby Parure Tiara to herself but everything else should be shared among her daughters, daughters-in-law, and other members of the extended Danish Royal Family. It would make things so much more interesting.

Did you end up having a fairy princess wedding dress?
Kind of? I married in 1999 so the styles were very different to those Princess Diana-inspired puffball dresses I longed for as a girl in the early '80s.
It was, technically, a ballgown, but the waist was dropped a bit, and the bodice was princess seamed. It was silver-white (I think the manufacturer called it "diamond white;" only when wedding dress shopping will you ever be so attuned to so many shades of white) and had short sleeves, and I liked the back of the neck, and there was a little sparkly beading on it.
I removed the "butt bow" and made my own bustle out of deep purple and dove grey satin, and faux hydrangeas and roses. This was at the very early edge of ever having anything on a wedding dress that wasn't 100% white so it made a big splash and got lots of compliments.
I lost so much weight from stress the week before the wedding (after my final dress fitting) the bodice was a little too big. I did love my dress, though, and my antique earrings and my silver wedding shoes, and my rhinestone tiara. I hated my bouquet. The dress is in a bag under a bed in my mother's house; I wanted to sell it immediately but she wouldn't let me. She claims there are blood stains inside the skirt which I suppose is possible, as I was a very lucky bride who had her period on her wedding day and during her honeymoon, but I doubt it. She thought I'd be sorry to see it go; I'm only sorry no one else got to love wearing it as much as I did. Maybe in ten or 15 years I can use it to make a fancy dress for a grandchild.
It was not my aim to be a fairy princess--or any kind of princess--on my wedding day (I was 26 and had outgrown that urge), but I did feel like a beautiful, elegant bride. Ours was a winter wedding and I wanted to look like Winona Ryder dancing under the snow in Edward Scissorhands.
We never ordered a wedding album or any photos (25 years later I think our book of proofs is all we're ever going to have; clearly it wasn't a priority) so this photo taken with a disposable camera is the only one I can easily lay hands on.

Tiara Predictions - State Visit from Spain to the Netherlands
King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be in the Netherlands today and tomorrow. The visit will focus Spanish-Dutch diplomacy, sports, energy, business, mental health, young people, the arts and technology.
Now to the predictions…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tiara I want Maxima to wear: Dutch Sapphire Parure Tiara. I expect both Queens will bring out the big guns tonight and this is my favourite gigantic tiara so I’d love it if Maxima wore it! She last wore it in November 2021 for the State Visit to Norway.
My Prediction: Stuart Tiara. Maxima has worn this tiara six times out of nine when attending events with more than one royal family since debuting this tiara in 2018. She last wore it in an official portrait in November 2023 to mark the 10th anniversary of the accession of Willem-Alexander.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Letizia to wear: the Pearl Loop Tiara. This is my favourite large Spanish tiara and was last worn in November 2021 for the State Visit from Italy.
My Prediction: the Fleur de Lys Tiara. Similar to Maxima, Letizia has worn this tiara every time she has attended a multi-royal event ever since she debuted this tiara in 2017. She last wore it in November 2023 for the State Visit to Denmark.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Tiara I want Amalia to wear: Dutch Diamond Bandeau Tiara. My favourite Dutch tiara! This would also coordinate beautifully with the Stuart Tiara if Maxima wears it. The tiara was last worn in October 2019 by Queen Maxima for the State Visit to India.
My Prediction: Sapphire Necklace Tiara. Amalia has attended 4 tiara events and has worn 3 different tiaras so this is the prediction that I’m least confident about. I really hope that Amalia wears this tiara if Maxima wears the larger Sapphire Parure Tiara. The tiara was last worn by Amalia in October 2023 for the birthday celebrations of Prince Christian.
I don’t have any strong opinions on the tiaras that Beatrix and Margriet will wear and this post is already long enough so I have only provided predictions.
Queen Beatrix: Antique Pearl Tiara
Princess Margriet: Laurel Tiara

JUGGLING CROWNS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Buckingsim Palace, Buckingsimshire 9:12 AM WST]
Martin Lavelle [Private Secretary]: Here is the final draft of your Parliament speech, ma’am.
Queen Katherine: Thank you, Martin. Will that be all?
Martin Lavelle [Private Secretary]: I know it’s your first day back but there is one more issue to discuss. Your attire to the State Opening of Parliament on Monday.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine: What about it? My dress has already been finalized.
Martin [P.S.]: As you have not yet been crowned, wearing the Imperial State Crown would not be appropriate.
Queen Katherine: Oh!
Tumblr media
Martin [P.S.]: When preparing your wardrobe for royal engagements, Jewels of the Crown will be selected to compliment your attire. As you become familiar with the collection, you can make requests. Typically, the Imperial State Crown is worn by the monarch to open parliament, and…
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine: Yes, I see. (excited) What about the Diamond Diadem? It was Queen Isabella’s favorite tiara. I always wanted to try it on but granny never allowed me.
Tumblr media
Martin [P.S.]: Lovely idea, ma’am. That is one of my favorite tiara’s amongst the collection. I’ll have the jewelers bring it over for you to try on. If it needs to be adjusted, we can complete that today also. Any other -
Queen Katherine: Phillip?
Prince Phillip: Mommy? I don’t feel too well.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine: We can discuss this later, Martin. Duty as a mom wins. That will be all.
Martin [P.S.]: “Yes, Your Majesty.”
Tumblr media
- - - - - LATER - - - - -
Tumblr media
[Buckingsim Palace 6:50 PM WST]
[Aide #1]: The Lucille tiara was also brought over as an option to wear Monday, Your Majesty. As you know, it has a mechanism to make it possible to switch from emeralds to the original pearls easily. The jewelers sent it over with the emeralds.
Queen Katherine: It’s stunning!
[Aide #1]: It was smuggled out of Brindleton Bay following the deaths of King Lester, and the royal family, during the flood of 1802. A Windenburg antiques and art dealer was able to retrieve 104 jewels from Queen Lucille’s safe at Beaverdam Castle, taking them with him back to Windenburg. The Lucille tiara was amongst his haul. Albert I purchased it in 1804 as a gift to his consort, Isabella. Many of the other jewels were later acquired and are amongst the Jewels of the Crown you are now the owner of.
Tumblr media
[Aide #2]: Excuse me, Your Majesty. You have a call.
Queen Katherine: Who is it?
[Aide #2]: The Countess of Boykins. She’s holding on your cell phone, stating it’s urgent.
Queen Katherine: Thank you, Jeni. I’ll take it in my office.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine: Hi sissy!
Queen Katherine: (shocked) What!?

Elizabeth Taylor and husband Mike Todd at the 10th Cannes Film Festival in 1957.
Elizabeth’s diamond antique tiara was a gift from Todd: “When Mike gave me this jewel, he said to me: ‘You are my queen, and I think you should have a tiara,’” Taylor said in her book My Love Affair with Jewelry.

META + fashion? <3
send  [ META ] + a word / phrase / person / etc  and i will write a head  canon around it. | @maidmyth
rhaenyra + fashion.
she expends a lot of effort, and puts a lot of time into carefully cultivating her appearance — she has a very rich sense of fashion. beyond it being what is expected of her as a member of the royal family, it's also something that gives her a lot of confidence, as well. she learned from an early age that there's a lot of power in the messages she can send with the gowns she wears. and it IS a message she had cemented for her post the tourney of 111AC, where the gowns worn by her and alicent became the inspiration for their political factions. she's also able to take the love she has for pretty things, and use that to be a lot bolder with standing her ground, and a lot more subtle with it as well. post the tourney, she mostly wears gowns in the traditional red and black of house targaryen, especially around court, or any sort of public setting where she and alicent are expected to be in the same place. so that even if there's a certain level of forced politeness between them due to attempts to keep the peace for viserys' sake, she still seems unyielding in regards to where she stands, in regards to the politics of it. the red and black colors of her house is a thing that she takes a lot of pride in, and helps bolster her confidence any time she starts to ? feel a bit unsure in her position. and for a lot of those dresses there's usually some sort of dragonscale pattern on her bodice, or on the interior of her sleeves .
canonically, we know she favored purples, and maroon velvets, and intricate golden myrish lace. with a bodice that ' often glittered with pearls or diamonds' . purple is also often a color that denotes royalty, and like - again, she takes a lot of strength from that. her clothes are her armor in that sense. and a way that she combats claims against her worth due internally. she likes the deeper colors best, ie. blood reds, sapphires, violets and flame oranges. the closest she herself has come to wearing green post the tourney of 111AC, is the sea blues she wears to honor the house of her first husband and her sons. ( that and ofc. the dinner in 127. ) she's also a fan of silvers, and golds, and shimmering material. she prefers very intricate designs and more likely then not incorporates dragon imagery in her clothes to honor her own mount, syrax. she also enjoys a certain level of floral accents with her gown ( mostly on her sleeves or at her waistline . ) and has a preference for layered material , whether it be fine silks or soft velvets. and in her youth, before she was married to her first husband, she preferred loose sleeves and flowing skirts. afterward, she'd begun to wear her sleeves tighter, with pronounced shoulder pieces. though she was always a fan of a fitted bodice, with defined necklines and waistlines.
she is a huge fan of jewelry / jewels. like massive. even her traveling cloaks have some sewn into them. she likes antique jewelry the most, though. older pieces that have some sort of history behind them. like the jade tiara she was given that was said to have belonged to an empress of leng, and the silver / sapphire necklace she inherited from her mother with the arryn falcon on it's face — a thing that was given to her in 103 when aemma became queen consort. she's noted to have worn rings on all her fingers, and often made sure to pair them with whatever other accessories she wore that day. she has rings that align with the birthstones of her sons and daughters / stepdaughters. and a friendship necklace that she has in a set with laena velaryon. ( hers was a dragon with blue stones, and rhaenyra's was a sea horse with rubies. ) which she would later give to the twins so they had both of them. she likes gold more then she likes silver jewelry. but makes the exception when it is something she's given by someone she loves, and not something she herself has bought.
the only instances she's ever worn her hair completely loose, include her childhood, or upon dragonstone with her children. for the most part, when it comes to her duties or trips to court / when she lived at court - she braids it in the manner of the conquering queen visenya. or pulls it half up with a braided crown + jeweled hair net. she owns a lot of jeweled hair pieces, and ones that either resemble dragon wings, or have the pattern of dragonscale on it. she does wear something akin to the french hood to travel / sail. she has a lot of golden headbands and jeweled circlets .
