ehehehehhh i rewatched AVAddiction 3 times now and not only do i have angst ideas but me n a buddy worked out all of the symptoms of Button Abuse and withdrawal from buttons >:)

so, behold! The effects of Button Abuse!

Notes:

Visible v. Invisible effects: Visible effects are things seen outside a body, either physical developments or external behaviors, while invisible effects are those that are implied or not concretely visible to the naked eye, such as those affecting mental health.

In v. out of episode: In episode things are symptoms and effects we see in the Animations vs. Addiction video, while out of episode things are extrapolated from in-episode information and speculation (like a sort of messed up hypothesis).

**Trigger warning for extended discussion of addiction usage and withdrawal symptoms.**

Muscular dystrophy & overall muscle mass loss.

Visible effect, in episode. Because of the low gravity effects of the buttons (similar to zero G in space, i noticed), users experience loss of muscle mass from the lack of use during button-fueled flight/floating/low-gravity. This is seen in the animation, with Blue experiencing ongoing loss of strength, motor skills, and overall mobility.

Confusion and temporary short-term memory loss.

Invisible effect, in episode. This is seen in the animation at multiple points, with Blue thinking over doing an action or getting something, and then having suddenly gotten it with no recollection of having made any movement towards the action.

Dopamine deregulation and overdependence.

Invisible effect, in episode. The dopamine rush obtained when experiencing button-fueled flight/floating/low-gravity would likely be incredibly high, and the deregulation caused by this would constantly up the amount of dopamine needed in the brain to function regularly, leading to the user having to be constantly chasing a stronger or longer-lasting button.

Derealization.

Visible effect, in episode (seen best at the scene where Orange/TSC initially hugs Blue). Surrounding world warping and changing to seemingly become harder to see and traverse. The loss of polygons and detail in background, as well as the fading of colors (except for those of the buttons) are major proofs of this effect.

Aggression.

Visible effect, in episode. We see Blue attack and actively resist Orange/TSC multiple times, despite the two being known friends and Orange/TSC actively trying to help Blue.

Face blindness.

Invisible effect, in episode. When we first see Orange/TSC in the episode, Blue completely ignores them and doesn't seem to recognize them and/or doesn't care to.

Reduced lung and/or heart capacity/efficiency.

Visible effect, in episode. When Orange/TSC initially sits Blue down to try and practice meditating, we see that Blue's breaths (compared to Orange/TSC's) are much shallower. Additionally, Blue collapses at several points throughout the episode, or has to sit or slow down in order to regain energy to move (most notably at the climax where they punch Orange/TSC and fall down to the ground afterwards, having to take a knee to regain energy before realizing they really need Orange/TSC's help with their button addiction).

Intrusive thoughts.

Invisible effect, in episode. We see numerous sections of Blue trying to focus their thoughts, but ultimately failing repeatedly and falling back into old habits of chasing buttons. The only one the effect might not be invisible to is Orange/TSC, as they help what i will refer to as "Brain Blue" to recenter and ignore incoming intrusive thoughts.

Tremors.

Visible effect, in episode. Connected to the muscular atrophy, we see multiple times where Blue begins to shake when shifting weight or has difficulty with steadiness and balance (best seen when Blue initially begs Orange/TSC for help and is shaking during the scene, as well as just afterwards, where they're limping in such a way that Orange/TSC has to help them walk and even slow down their pace to match with Blue's slowed and unstable gait. Also seen during the recover/withdrawal phase, where Blue can be seen shaking uncontrollably and generally writhing around).

Anxiety

Invisible effect, in episode. We see Blue struggle greatly with the intrusive thoughts of returning to button use, as well as seem to panic at the thought of Orange/TSC leaving them after the initial dropping of buttons. They have multiple moments of intense panic during withdrawal, leading them to spiral out of control and try to return to Button pressing.

Shortened attention span and/or loss of patience

Invisible effect, in episode. We see Blue get tired of trying to meditate with Orange/TSC multiple times, to the point that even Brain Blue even jumps rapidly between different thoughts before being refocused.

Potential for long-term damages.

Visible and invisible effects, not in episode. Due to seen symptoms of forgetfulness, tremors, dopamine dependence, aggression, and reduced lung and/or heart efficiency, we can extrapolate that long-term damage may be done to the user's respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular, or nervous system after minimal usage.
