Hello everyone! Before I begin, I have to say I very much thank everyone who shared my story around. It may not be much, but it could lead to something more. Thank you for doing that.

Since my goal with my original post was to not only address my sudden unfair banning from the platform but to also give attention to other problems with this platform, I decided to give this operation a catchy name of sorts. You can call it

Operation Take That!

or anything else really. Hopefully that will give this movement more of an identity.

In other news though, I may have discovered some very peculiar bugs that affect the Youtube experience for me, and I'll show these in this post to give bugfix suggestions. For the sake of clarity, and also because I like old stuff, I will be showing these screenshots with CustomTube enabled. It's an extension for Chrome and Firefox that changes the look of the Youtube layout to older ones, specifically mid 2014 in this case.

First on my examination will be the home page. For this and other instances, I will be comparing how a banned user sees a page with the same tab but in a container so as to show how a normal user sees the same page. So how does the home page should usually look like? It should look as shown here:

Notice the sidebar on the left. Now lets compare it with the non-container homepage, and see what we get:

You can immediately see how the sidebar is gone. Why? If you can't login into a youtube account, why remove the sidebar? It still wouldnt let you sign in anyway because you are terminated. It is simply unnessesary!

Now lets move onto the watch page, and see how that is different, here is a screengrab of a random video I took from the home page in the container:

Again, notice the sidebar, but also the Like and Dislike buttons and the row of buttons from "About" to "More". Lets also compare the comments section, here is how it looks in container:

Great, right? Now lets see how those two look without container:

Notice how wrong everything looks? The lack of sidebar again, the misshapen Like button, the Save button here is the default one, the Share button has been replaced with a number, and the More button has three dots underneath it. Odd right? Lets see the comment section now:

Oh wait, there is no comment section here, because it's stuck in a loading loop! Again, why does this need to happen when you get banned? This is just unnessesary again!

Here's some other issues that I know of or found that I feel like need to be fixed:

The Like and Dislike buttons in comment sections lead to the sign in, unlike the ones under the video itself.

There's been performance issues for users of Firefox, including an intentional 5-second slowdown and big lag. The lag one in particular seems to be happening to everyone, not just me with an almost decade-old laptop at this point. Some speculate these changes were made by Google as part of a tactic to get non-Chrome users to, well, use Chrome, and see it as just plain being greedy. I think so too.

Occasionally, when I enter the home page from a watch page, the tab assumes I am logged in and shows my pfp and notification bell and all. I can click the pfp to open what would be the menu there, but is stuck in an endless loop. As well, the page im on shows a "Something went wrong" error. Very weird. That needs to be fixed too I think.

Again, please reblog and share this post around to not only hear my story but to hear my criticisms and suggestions too. I might make more of these posts to show how bad Youtube's getting as a platform. Also I am still considering whether to get a Boosty or not. Maybe even a Ko-fi if they allow that. every time i look into astronism and "cometan" i get more and more fucking baffled. who the fuck is this guy. why is he pretending to have a massive organized religion when he very clearly does not. i'm so deeply unsettled by him for some reason.

like, imagine you're like me, okay, and you really like niche religious topics. so you're looking into astrotheology (worship of stars) as a concept, maybe not only to soothe your curiosity, but because it's pretty damn cool and you might wanna incorporate some spiritual acknowledgement of the cosmos into your life. or maybe not. who knows, you have to read about it first. so you do some googling, and eventually you come across astronism.com (web archive version). and it's this huge website with dozens of different sections talking about the different beliefs and sections of "astronism", a religion founded by someone who calls himself cometan.

i mean, look at this shit. it's a lot. it's a LOT.

a lot of these words are completely fucking original. original concepts with original words. and if you look on the bottom left, it seems that there's a fairly good media presence. at least there's SOMETHING, you know? 90k twitter followers is nothing to scoff at. 7k youtube subs isn't insignificant. but what is fucking insane is that the engagement on these accounts is absolutely miniscule. i'm talking one retweet per tweet (which is only retweeted by another official astronist account, of which there are a STUPID amount). a couple hundred views per video at best and no comments.

so you look further into it. because your interest is fucking PIQUED. you are incredibly interested in whatever the fuck is going on here not because of it's complexity, but because it seems to be masquerading itself as a huge, official religion, when there seems to be next to nobody talking about it. i could find two tumblr posts related to this shit, and neither seem organic (made by an actual person).

the founder has his own website at cometan.org (web archive here) and good CHRIST. is it a trip. here's the opening picture you're greeted with, to show the sort of strange aura around this website.

this is the most insane shit i've ever seen because I DON'T KNOW WHO THE FUCK THIS GUY IS. i can't find a single thing that leads him to literally any sort of credible source. i've researched nature worship before and haven't found him. it looks like this all just popped up one day.

the twitter account seems to have just been some random retweet account for pretty pictures until march 18th, 2018, when it retweeted a picture of cometan:

i'm dropping the "you" metaphor now because i'm tired. anyway, before that i don't really see much evidence of anything else. it seems like the account was changed over from a picture account.

going back to his website, here's the description he gives of himself and his creation of astronism:

From the day of his fifteenth birthday, Cometan dedicated himself to a public life as a philosopher, religious figure and astronomer through his exploration of the universe's deepest questions, hence why he is also known as Cometan the Contemplator.

After receiving a series of intense receptions from age fifteen about the future and destiny of humanity to explore and discover the mysteries of The Cosmos, Cometan forged a new religion named Astronism that is now challenging the stereotypes of what it means to be religious, philosophical, spiritual, or otherwise.

so this guy made this when he was fifteen. that's the story. fair enough, i guess. i had some weird religious ideas when i was fifteen. i've seen people carry out some pretty weird ideas. it's a lot, but it's not UNHEARD of, and i was mostly interested in why this guy was seemingly pretending to have a world religion when he just didn't.

but you guys don't get it yet. you haven't seen it. you haven't seen the true depths of how fucking insane this is because oh my good christ, i found the founding book of astronism, and this is what i was fucking met with.

that is the page count for the omnidoxy, the founding text of astronism, and i am fully convinced that if i picked a page in the middle at random i would be the first person besides the author to have ever read it. the pages are all full. i checked. the font is just a normal fucking size. here's a page for reference.

this is just one of the books. i downloaded them ages ago when first looking into this, so i can't remember where i found them, but i managed to get them for free somewhere on the web (good thing, because the omnidoxy officially costs 150 pounds and i am NOT paying that for this). there are OTHER FUCKING BOOKS. as you can tell from the page i showed you, it's also filled with the type of incomprehensible jargon with an actual thought process behind it. this guy knows what he's talking about, it's just that he's the only person in the entire world who does.

i'm just. in fucking awe. i feel like i've discovered a secret society. can someone please tell me what the fuck this is or what this about because i'm frankly on the edge of losing my mind. this is actually sending me into hysterics. i NEED to know what any of this means.

1) this Video of Duff and Slash in the Restaurant is so weird to watch. Imagine going out for eating and everyone is looking at you and staring at you. Like in a Zoo. It made me so uncomfortable looking at it, can't imagine how they must have felt. Especially Slash who always seemed to have some sort of social anxiety.

2) On Twitter, they said some Fans got into the Hotel and met Duff and somehow Duff got injured. Another girl was crying on IG because Slash's security was a bit rough with her when she met (or wanted to meet) Slash. And people assuming it was because Duff got injured and they didn't want the same happen to Slash.

Anyway, there really shouldn't be Fans in the same hotel as the band tbh. They need some privacy too, they need some Rest and alone time too.

The reality of being a celebrity is people are gonna stare, look, etc. Once someone is a public figure, especially a well known one, the public is gonna react when they are out and about. Not that isn't gonna be uncomfortable, or awkward, annoying even, it just comes with the territory of fame and celebrity. We are a celebrity OBSESSED culture. That being said, celebrities are entitled to feel how they feel about going out, and being approached by fans when they're just going about their daily lives, or out to eat. I just don't think someone who has been "famous" for decades like Slash and Duff would be super out of sorts by folks staring as it's probably common. It's just an unfortunate cost for fame or being a public figure.

Also People tend to stare at things that are unusual or novel, so a celebrity sighting for a lot is very rare AND humans tend to notice others staring at someone/something are also more likely to look themselves trying to figure out what has got the attention of others. A weird little human tick, like if you show up late to class, make noise opening the door, people just immediately look because weird monkey brain lol

So who are "they" on Twitter? I went and checked on Slash and Duff's Twitter, even the official GnR Twitter account and saw nothing so what's your source on this? I'm very wary about online bullshit. As for the girl crying on Instagram, people lie for clout all the fucking time, or she tried to meet him at a very inappropriate time, I mean there is a dozen reasons why security may have been rough IF that even happened. Fans can be fucking so inappropriate with celebrities and cross boundaries all the time (and celebrities too). I've read fan accounts claiming so and so were SO rude, treats fans like shit, when the reality was, the fans were being shit heads. It depends on the point of view but I think fan entitlement is nauseating. Frankly I think anyone can tell someone to fuck off if they're having a meal and some bozzo interrupts them but SOME celebrities know this will reflect badly and are far more gracious then I personally think they need to be. So Insta Girl might be truthful or a fucking liar I dunno, don't care. I would NEVER approach a celebrity out in public because I find it fucking rude.

I kinda agree but it would be hard to enforce unless the band or whoever books the entire hotel. Probably I'd assume they'd book a floor or two for crew etc and for security reasons.

There are a few Youtubers out there that discuss celebrities, fandom, fans, parasocial relationships etc that are interesting because I think with social media, fans can now really interact with celebrities unlike any other time period before. Like fan letters can be read by staff of a celebrity, but now you can Tweet, or comment directly to a public figure (not everyone though is run by the actual celebrity/public figure many have media teams)

I just think with Iphones, social media, and all this tech has created a whole new world for fans and celebrities and navigating it is MESSY as fuck. Like now fans can easily track down celebrities as the paparazzi had done before, and a lot of paparazzi crossed a lot of lines to get that photo for $$. Now fans are willing to cross lines in order to meet their favs for clout, or online fame themselves etc and it's worrisome.

first of all, thank you so much for answering in such detail! looved reading your response!! noticing your "improvement" as you put it must be so interesting! especially realizing that you now pay closer attention to others' perspectives.

when it comes to my process of "improvement" as a writer, i feel like it's a much.... personal? one simply because i'm not a native speaker. i'm writing in a language that, no matter how hard i try or how well i acquaint myself with, does not feel like my own and whose words will probably never, with full confidence, come to me as easily as they would to a native speaker. and improvement, in that sense, covers a much wider range of areas i need to refine myself in. (i hope this doesn't sound off, it's just how it personally feels like for me, i'm not trying to disregard anyone's efforts! i'm sure everyone puts in as much work as i do, just in different aspects!). +

+ so while i'm trying to expand my vocabulary and reach a point where, let's say, the usage of prepositions feels more natural to me, i'm also trying to teach myself the basics of writing as a craft. i'm a firm believer that there shouldn't be set in stone rules of writing, especially considering how every writer has a unique style (which is super amazing, don't you think?) but i also try to read a lot about what improves prose, how to get better at incorporating metaphors and such. for example, i'm currently about to start reading david micheal kaplan's essay "revising your prose for power and punch". there's also this youtuber whose videos i thoroughly enjoy watching, they've helped me so much, opened my eyes to so many new things, they're "ShaelinWrites". while i don't intend to take everything that's been said about writing as a rule, since that'd simply kill my own creativity, i do find learning about these very helpful for me!

English is my first language, but I have tried writing in French before (did not go well), so I feel you on that sense of ineloquence. Huge props to you for sticking with it tho!!

Vocabulary is an interesting point you bring up, because that's something I'd like to improve on myself as well :') It always seems that everyone around me has such a big vocabulary and have just the right words for the right moments, so I've been thinking about what to do for that. (Signed up for Merriam-Webster's 'word of the day', but I don't think that's helped any yet LOL)

Oh! I'll check out the book you recommended! I've never really tried reading books on how to write (aside from "The World Split Open: Great Authors on How and Why We write", which I got only because I wanted to read Ursula Le Guin's section, and I haven't read anyone else's yet LOL), but I've seen various ones recommended here and there.

FWIW, I have heard of Shaelin! I think they're on Tumblr too, actually, I might be following them. But, again, writing YouTube (writeTube? is that what they're called?) has never really been my... thing, so I can't comment much on that either.

It was actually a little weirdthat they didn’t run into each other yet. They did live in the same city. Theydid have friends in common. It was only a matter of time… And apparently, timewas up.

“Hi, Clarke.” His voice wassoft. He looked perfectly calm and at ease. She sat in front of him and relaxedunder his gaze. “What are you taking? My treat.”

“Well, it was the deal” shegrinned. But her face immediately turned into a horrified one.

“I… Err, I forgot your shirt?”

He didn’t say anything for afew seconds, didn’t move an inch. Clarke began to take a deep breathe butBellamy bursted out laughing.

Clarke barely heard her phoneringing under the shower. She made it in time just before it goes to thevoicemail. She answered it without looking at the number.

“Hi?”

“Clarke, hi?”

“Bellamy?”

“Yeah… I’m sorry… I shouldn’thave called… You probably have other things to do.”

“Bellamy it’s 2 in themorning… I have literally nothing to do right now. What’s up?”

“It’s nothing really… But youwere the only one I know who could be up this late…”

“No problem seriously.”

“I had this dream…”

“You always have weirddreams.”

“It was more like a nightmareactually…”

“Oh.”

She listened to him as he toldher about this nightmare. How he dreamed he was 10 again when his step dad beathis mother and how he would hide Octavia to protect her. And then he was backinto the present time and this man came back into their lives and manipulatedOctavia who ended up in the hospital because of him but blamed Bellamy foreverything…

Clarke listened as his voicebroke with a few sobs sometimes, showing how deeply he loved his sister and howimportant she was for him.

When he was done, shewhispered a few words, letting now that everything was okay, that he couldcount on her. Always.

They moved on on another topicand spent the night talking to each other, discovering the last parts theydidn’t know about each other.

1:54am [Clarke] are you taking ascreenshot of every one of my snaps?

1:56am [Bellamy] yes and?

1:57am [Clarke] nothing.

2:03am [Clarke] i do the same

3:02am[Clarke] I still have your shirt.

3:04am[Bellamy] my shirt?

3:04am[Clarke] you know the brown hideous one i got you to replace thebrown hideous one i’ve ruined with coffee

3:05am[Bellamy] oh that shirt.

3:05am[Clarke] yes. want it?

3:05am[Clarke] im at your door.

Bellamyopened the door and it was the most beautiful view Clarke could imagine.Bellamy wearing a large shirt and some sport pants as pyjamas. Looking at herlike she was stars.

“Could we date?” She blurted out. “Like really date?With kissing and maybe more. And spending afternoons at each other’s place. Andhold hands, I really would like to hold your hands like always.”

She seemed to realize that she said that completelyout of the blue and blushed. But it wasn’t really out of the blue, was it?

“You know what I mean… I got your shirt” she addedlifting a bag.

“I couldn’t care any less about the shirt, Clarke”Bellamy said, his voice deep.

“I’ve made of these efforts to find the exact same oneas this ugly shirt you wore that day and you’re telling me you don’t care?That’s rude, Bellam-”

“Clarke, shut up” he said as he put a hand on herwaist and bringing her against his chest. She laughed and put a hand on it. Sheraised her eyes then, to meet his and smiled, biting her lips slowly.

“Could we date?” She repeated as his lips weredescending to hers. She was smiling way to much to be a proper kiss but shedidn’t care and he didn’t seem to either. She fold her arms behind his neck toput him even closer and he almost lost his balance.

“Let’s date” he finally said between kisses.
