my tendency to ramble endlessly is strong 😔🙏 so I’ll try my best to keep this short. Anyways this is the result of a month long doodle page of a few of my westerners: Ramona “Mona” Sanchez/ California, Roberto Velasco “Rob McDaniel”/ Texas, & Pedro Ortega/ New Mexico + Aurelie Bayon/ Louisiana (c. @gardenkeeper ).

Under the cut, I’ll explain each doodle briefly from left to right, & I’m just gonna include the most important details. I’ll def be talking about Mona & Rob more so in the future.

Mona is like 12, a bit angsty, and boy crazy when she’s starting to think of being independent of Mexico. She thought the cute blonde boy (Alfred/USA) who was also fighting Mexico was totally gonna help her cause he’s y’know famously so good hearted (lolllll). That didn’t pan out well.

Mona on a horse cause why not. She’s usually trying to be this influencer-esque, health conscious, “spiritual” fake bitch, but like she can’t hide at her core she’s a bit of a cowgirl.

Mona & Rob talking when they’re US states. Rob just has a compulsive urge to tease her. And he does reveal stuff about her that she doesn’t necessarily want revealed (Californios are mostly castizos if you will and began identifying as Spanish rather than Mexican as they did not want to be associated with Mexico as Mexico was sending people with more mesitzos or just non-white ancestry to the region. Mona upon entry to the US would’ve identified herself as being Spanish as a means of asserting her distance from Mexico by trying to assert greater proximity to whiteness and Rob knows what she’s doing and just causally pokes holes in her story lol. Not that Rob is much better).

Rob & Aurelie just being affectionate together. I’ll save a greater discussion about them for another time. But their story begins when Rob is basically a neglected Spanish colonial outpost who’s forced to rely on the good will of his presumed French colonial enemy, Aurelie. They become friends throughout the years. Rob always had a crush on Aurelie. She began to like him more romantically towards the 20th century, and I think they bond over a shared love of music - especially genres from that region: Jazz, Blues, Ragtime, & Zydeco.

Rob & Alfred are BFFs, they’re friends before the civil war but they really become BFFs post-civil war. They’re like highkey the same person. Loud, obnoxious, head strong. Except Rob has more of a lighter, jokester energy to him. Rob is slower to anger whereas Alfred could hold a grudge forever (New England ass).

A design of Pedro / New Mexico. I need to do more research on him. But so far I feel bad he’s stuck btwn Mona & Rob. They’re both objectively crazy lol. And Pedro just wants to be left alone.

"You heard me, for the next task, you have to swim away from this swamp puppy I yoinked from the Everglades!" Florida smiled, holding up a 15-foot alligator, "This is my pet, say hi to Orlando!" Orlando snapped its huge jaw at the nations.

Germany paled, "A-What?!"

"Sha, you heard 'im. It won't hurt ya, maybe." Louisiana chuckled, "Why do y'all look so scared? This is how we learned how to swim. "

"Ah, good days..." Florida remisced. He then snickered at Germany, "Why did ya think we brought y'all to a swamp?"

Denmark jumped into the swamp water, "Alright! C'mon Nor, we'll shove it to the others!" Norway huffed in reply, being dragged into the water.

"What 'Advanced Swimming Class' is this?" Grumbled Germany, hesitantly joining the Nordic countries. Prussia jumped in after him.

"Kesese! What, you scared west?" He teased, aggressively tousling his brother's hair. Prussia turned to Denmark, "We'll beat ya so hard you'll be running to Sweden!"

"As if!" Denmark retorted, swinging his arm over Norways shoulder.

"Alright! Releasing Orlando in 3...2... ORLANDO!" Exclaimed Florida, losing his grip on the vicious alligator, "Oh no! He's releasing the snakes! Get them!"

Prussia let out a high-pitched scream as Orlando charged at him. He took his leg and Prussia clung onto Germany. "Quick, sha! Hit 'im on the snout! Then get outta the water!" Louisiana exclaimed, running with Florida to grab the snakes.

"RUN RUN RUN!" Yelled Denmark hauling everyone out.

Prussia managed to wrestle free, before joining everyone in running in a random direction. It took a few hours of them running away from the various dangers of the Everglades before they realised something.

"Scheiße. We're lost."

I keep seeing people designing the Aph states and so I just wanna describe how I imagine Hawaii because I have never seen this design.

Hawaiii first has muscles, they were a country before! They are strong!

Alfred will trust them with managing the other states while he’s gone.

Likes being shirtless covered in tattoos and some scars or just the scars.

He will teach alfred some fighting styles from Hawaii and makes really good food.

He is taller than alfred even if it’s just slightly.

He often dislikes the American government but likes Alfred’s company as he is the American people, not the government.

Will wear tropical dad vacationing stuff or traditional Hawaiian garments, it depend on the day.

I’m really just imaging a tall Hawaiian man with a look of being done with everything being soft with the states

And maybe he knows Yao cuz they’re both old. Like this man just stops into a meeting because alfred forgot to bring anything for lunch so he made him food so he wouldn’t eat anymore of “that shitty fast food you like” and Yao just sees him and is like “your alive?!” And he’s like yeah and they could be like enemies, freinds ,freinds of freinds, former lovers and alfred is just like happy for the food and is just watching things happen and all the others are just very confused about Al this because they didn’t even know the states are represented and that Alfie has been working with 50 rumbasses.

they are especially confused that Alfred addresses him as family.

This could also mean that all the other states that were absorbed could be represented so all the older counties seeing the family they sold or gave up again could be perfect for angst, fluff, reallly just a lot.

Also Louisiana is definetlh named Louis (potential deadbame Louisa) [francis is just happy to see him]

also potential family angst because not every state is welcoming to foreigners so they would probably be mean to the foreign states while the really nice ones would be really hyped so lots of mixed emotions

and potential chance for them to meet alaska and be like “ why does this child look like a fusion between Russia and America” ( maybe a genetics experiment they did, maybe just chance, who knows?)

Louisiana is the one who goes around and gives ‘certified Cajun food’ stamps to her other siblings, but she’s absolutely brutal about it and will insult their food without a lick of guilt.

Except for Texas, because he’s her closet little brother and she takes the time to teach him how to cook.

The thought of Amelia/Alfred declaring independence and then being immediately thrust into parenthood appeals to me. Imagine if you will shortly after the Revolution the emergence of State Personifications coming about with each admission to the Union (Delaware was the first one). Whether they appear miraculously or are birthed via (unwilling) parthenogenesis (which I prefer) the bottom line is that suddenly America has all these kids to take care of, all of who grow up just as fast as America did. Regardless of how they came to be or how fast they grow, America loves them with his/her whole being and creates a system in which they are always protected and accounted for by the larger government. America promises to be there for them the way England never was.

Then fast forward to the Civil War, and America is waging a bloody war against half of her/his children that see hundreds of thousands of their people dead. Brother against brother, father against son, cousin against cousin. And each secession feels like a small death because they are part of America just as much as America is a part of them, practically inseparable, or at least America thought so. To add even more complexity, not all of America's children were white or white-passing. America being neglected because s/he was to far away or denied certain rights for not being British enough was bad on its own, but imagine your parent not being able to claim you or fully protect you or give you basic human rights without public/social/political backlash because your skin is darker and you're legal property in half the country. Or imagine having powerful politicians who want to keep people who look like your children in bondage and you have to compromise with them to keep the Union whole, knowing the opinions they would have if they even knew you had children who were black (some of them do know and make sure their opinions are known). Or your other children starting a war to selfishly keep this system in place at the expense of their black siblings. The relationship between America and his/her children, with America acting as both the federal government that protects the states as well as the greater whole that represents the Union and the states as the children, each an extension of America, an integral part of America's being, pushing back against the sometimes overbearing hovering of their parent, impeding on states rights (whether they believe America is in the right or not) and protecting others and sometimes America will helplessly throw his/her hands in the air and say "fine, ill let YOU decide on this issue because I am not a dictator, despite what some of you like to think, but if you fuck up im stepping in" because America doesn't want to make the same mistakes England made in the past but then America has to deal with the negative consequences of her/his children's actions when they do something unbelievably stupid while trying not to seem like a fire-breathing tyrant. Which, they end up thinking anyway, regardless if America wasn't entirely in the wrong about butting in and taking hold of the situation before it escalated. The negative reaction only serves to make America step away AGAIN so as to not seem completely authoritarian in their eyes. It's a never-ending cycle. Not to mention the complex relationships the states have with each other, especially the southern states among themselves and the southern vs northern states rivalry.

also whenever America takes his/her eyes off the states for 1mili second to see what the rest of the world is up to (hopefully not another world war) while usually being like 'back off, geeze! 🤬' America's children immediately switch to 'how come you're not paying attention to ME instead 🥺 you always focus on the world instead of ME 😢'

2p America Headcanons

Wears a dog tag received from his version of Davie who died in their world's war. This is his most precious thing other than his bat and sunglasses and is almost never seen without it. It was once taken by Lutz in a prank and let's just say, Lutz was bed bound for a month.

Get him angry enough and he slips into a Brooklyn accent. Also gains a New Jersey accent when the show Jersey Shore comes on which he detests with a burning passion.

Hates the aforementioned show and will join New Jersey in burning every bit of merch/DVD/CDs they can find.

Dresses up as a villain on Halloween to freak out Alfred.

Has a fear of clowns following the 2016 killer clown fiasco but will never admit it.

Loves his Louisville slugger bat and just about brings it everywhere. Has since taken all the nails out since living with America and the states. No one knows how it's able to fit in his jacket.

Knows what happened to his world's Roanoke Colony but will never tell.

Since coming to the 1p world, he along with the rest of the 2ps, have gained the same up-to-date scars their counterparts have. Most notably, he has two long scars on his back (towers), one on his forehead hidden above his hairline (pentagon), and one on his back calf(Pennsylvania) from the 9/11 attack to mirror Alfred.

Is surprisingly really good at horse riding and can lasso anything from yards away. This comes in handy when corralling states. Likes riding with Texas.

Doesn't know how to ice skate so Minnesota and Michigan helped teach him.

Extremely vulnerable to Hawaii and Alaska's puppy dog eyes despite his tough-guy image.

Makes sure to teach every kid baseball and joins New York at the Yankees games.

Often helps California with her vegan recopies and helps states like Kansas, Iowa, and Georgia grow their corn/peaches. Can actually cook because of this and Oliver's lessons as a kid, unlike Alfred who's tastebuds were ruined by Arthur.

Likes pranking other countries with the states.

Knows magic and helps tutor Lousiana and Massachusettes in their magic. (See my 2p America's Magic post for more info.)

Is really protective of the states and goes into papa bear mode when they're threatened.

Holds a grudge with Luciano and often terrorizes him.

Passed out when first introduced to Tony and still a little freaked out by him. interestingly, it's harder for him to believe in the concept of aliens than magic while it's the opposite with 1p America.

Loves taking care of the family whale, but will never admit to being a softie (He totally is).

Has a mouth on him and curses like it's going out of style. Censors himself rather creatively around the states though.

Trusts Delaware and Virginia the most out of all the states to be responsible and not do anything stupid.

I’m considering making a work on AO3 for these ocs because I have an ungodly amount of thoughts for Louie that cannot fit into one Tumblr post. Besides, some subjects involving his race and the Civil War are way too sensitive to include in a lighthearted oc sheet.

His outfit and nickname is taken from @/ben_brainard on TikTok! He creates skits with his own representations of U.S states. They’re usually focused on American politics and news but also include inner state relations and little tid-bits about the states themselves in his ‘State-Intro’ series. Please check him out 🙏🏽

Louisiana was a fun state to design because he's a genuinely fun and genuine guy. His human name is Jean-Baptiste Audubon, and he's black.

Louisiana, perhaps thanks to France's influence, is naturally very stylish. He enjoys fashion and tends to always look cool, even without really trying. He's also an absolutely phenomenal cook; in fact, he's the best cook out of all the states, only just beating New Jersey for that title. He enjoys cooking and loves creating meals for people; he will sometimes volunteer at soup kitchens just to be able to cook for others.

He's the twin brother to Mississippi, though neither know who's the older of them. He's very close with his twin sister considering their shared relaxed, friendly and helpful natures.

Louisiana is also generally into the outdoors, boating, swimming and fishing. He loves jazz music, blues music, festivals, gumbo, playing music and just music in general. He goes all out for Mardi Gras, but besides that he isn't actually a huge partier. He doesn't take anything for granted and loves to celebrate even the smallest things. He would also absolutely take the clothes off his own back to help someone else out. He's polite, charming, talkative, proud, steadfast and good humored. He has a thick cajun accent and a constantly content demeanor. He's the type of person who has a naturally calming influence, and he gets along with pretty much all of the other southern states- even Texas, surprisingly (though they have their moments).
