As someone who has never even touched ATLA (anime), and has only ever seen the movie, let me give you a list of reasons why i absolutely adored it :

aang is literally a kid in this one, like he's a child hero and golden boy, and god, doesn't your chest hurt a little from seeing all that youth pain and pain? don't you feel raw?

katara is a total badass. i know some of the anime fans don't like how she's different, but i look up to her so much and she's younger than me canonically. i would die for her. i esp like the fact that she saw jet, liked him, but the second she realised he was kind of a cult-leader she went fuck that shit im out

ZUKO IS A SMALL BABY I WANT TO PET HIM HE'S A SMALL CHILD HE IS MY SMALL CHILD HAVE YOU EVER FELT SO TERRIBLY ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU WISH TO EXIST IN A TIME WHERE YOU COULD HELP IT HEAL

sokka being a playboy/summer-fling/taylor swift's james from the love triangle coded kinda guy makes so much sense. in the movie he was obsessed with one (1) girl and that never made sense to me. like okay bby pop off monogamous king??? but i definitely feel that sokka is not the kind of person (esp in this time of his life) to be a one-woman guy. also i want to see him get in trouble for it sorry idk

iroh is zuko's dad and none of y'all can convince me otherwise.

Rant being over, I respect y'alls opinions fr. I get that seeing somethings change or become different in a new iteration of your favorite work is tough. But let's remember the amount of effort and time it takes for these actors, sets and even storyboard artists to work on these things!!!! Life is so terribly short, why must you fill your time with dissatisfaction? Find the things you love about the new show!! Find the positives!!!

Just finished the ATLA remake and I have some thoughts so here we go

• I HATE how Sokka is a shell of his original character. Like yeah they wanted a more “serious” tone but Sokka is quite literally the comedic relief character and he’s nothing like the original—the worst part is as his lines have potential to be funny but it’s all said so monotone it falls flat immediately

• Katara is SO stoic?? I think she’s show genuine emotion in her face 3 times in the entirety of S1. Katara is a character that is showing emotions and reacting to things around her!! I’m not saying her actress is bad by any means, but I just wish she put more expression into acting out Katara.

• honestly for Aang I don’t really have a comment? he’s pretty similar,, I do like the cool swirlies on his tattoos though those are nice

• not nearly enough appa content—I NEED MORE

• i think iroh and zuko are my favorite parts of this show, zuko’s actor is AMAZING and he’s really good at bringing out all my favorite parts in his character!! also I love how all through the season iroh is just tolerating zuko’s angsty teen attitude IT MAKES ME LAUGH EVERYTIME

• plus the environment is BEAUTIFUL and is genuinely so pretty to look at, I LOVE THE SET IN THIS SHOW

anyways overall rating for me personally is 7/10, it’s not bad but for a series like avatar it should be better

I had mixed feelings about the live action of "Aang" I swear there were moments where I said what the hell did they do? Especially with Katara's character, with Azula, with Mei and Tai Lee… they definitely ruined the characters and I'm not talking about their physical appearance because I don't get involved in those matters; But the personalities they have were taken away, ruined.

There were things in the locker rooms that also seemed annoying and inappropriate to me.

But there were scenes where god… technically I felt like my heart was exploding with emotion; Chapter 2 with Kyoshi, how they replaced Roku with her, was something out of canon but extraordinary, I still get chills remembering the scene. Kyoshi is a goddess. And suki for god's sake!!! It's Suki in every sense of the word, Sokka lacked more humor but it's good, Zuko is Zuko, Uncle Iroh, appa, momo… well, there are many redeemable things.

Season 2 is really needed, to improve Katara and the other errors and we need external material from Kyoshi. I love her, there is no other option and I hope they add Toph and don't ruin her.
