I think the craziest thing to me about Thursday is that the 3 newest songs they released - after basically 12 to 13 years of no new music at all - are virtually indecipherable as far as era from their previous work. Geoff’s voice, the composition and arrangement of the instruments, I’m in awe. This band is timeless.

WHAT IS LIGHT?
A SPARK
WHAT IS LIFE?
A MOMENT
WHAT’S THE FUTURE?
A SPARK
HOW LONG IS TIME?
A MOMENT
AND THOUGHTS?
A SPARK
OUR BODIES?
A MOMENT
WHERES THE DREAM COME FROM?
SPARKS
WHAT IS DEATH?
ITS JUST A MOMENT NOW!

I would have been in shambles by the opening of Ian Curtis ngl😭😭😭😭
Also the fucking HEARTBREAK of Signals (still the best Thursday song to ever exist, try and change my mind) THEN the new singles THEN War all the time 😭😭😭😭😭 killer setlist. Mah bois be out for blood it seems🥹❤️🔥🥰. GODDAMN.

"Application for Release from the Dream" feels like a continuation of A City By the Light Divided. The album ends still in that space of "we're all gonna die, it's only a matter of time," very dark, very traumatized, waiting for death. The song feels like it's dealing with those same themes but after years of healing. It's still "we're all gonna die," but with a lot more passion for life, understanding that we need to try to keep going despite that and despite the near-death experiences.
I keep listening to them back-to-back and feeling like it really fits with the album - in the same way that my favorite thing about The Black Parade as a teenager was that it ended with "Famous Last Words" after all that darkness. It feels like growing up, healing, and understanding.
