In 2022, the US market cap of the weight loss industry was $75 billion [1, 3]. In 2021, the global market cap of the weight loss industry was estimated at $224.27 billion [2]. 

In 2020, the market shrunk by about 25%, but rebounded and then some since then [1, 3] By 2030, the global weight loss industry is expected to be valued at $405.4 billion [2]. If diets really worked, this industry would fall overnight.

Over 50 years of research conclusively demonstrates that virtually everyone who intentionally loses weight by manipulating their eating and exercise habits will regain the weight they lost within 3-5 years. And 75% will actually regain more weight than they lost [4].

Doctors became so desperate that they resorted to amputating parts of the digestive tract (bariatric surgery) in the hopes that it might finally result in long-term weight-loss. SÉANCE #07 Culture participative : entre démocratisation de l’expertise et professionnalisation des pratiques amateures ;

Le 5 octobre dernier, Juliette Binoche, Julie Gayet, Isabelle Adjani, Marion Cotillard et bon nombre d'artistes françaises se coupent une mèche de cheveux en soutien au soulèvement des Iraniennes dans une vidéo qui devient virale.

Depuis la mort douteuse et suspecte de Mahsa Amini, jeune iranienne de 22 ans, arrêtée par la police des mœurs avec pour seul motif que son voile laissait apparaître ses cheveux, la colère s’est emparée des Iraniennes qui manifestent, depuis, contre les méfaits de leurs gouvernements qui n'hésitent pas à envoyer des soldats arrêter, blesser et tué les manifestants. C’est durant ces manifestations que plusieurs d’entre elles se coupent des touffes de cheveux comme si elles coupaient la main puissante et dominatrice de l'état. Ce mouvement est proclamé alors comme un mouvement féministe qui invite les femmes du monde entier à la solidarité contre l’oppression, la dictature et le phallocentrisme des sociétés.

C’est donc dans ce contexte que le 5 octobre, est publiée la vidéo avec comme seule phrase “Pour la liberté” des personnalités françaises qui montrent leur solidarité. Cependant, la réception de ce geste fut très mitigée par la presse et la toile. Pendant que certains admirent et applaudissent ce geste, d’autres blâment et dénoncent l’hypocrisie flagrante derrière ce geste. Beaucoup se moquent de la longueur des mèches de cheveux coupés par ces femmes ou encore de la frivolité du geste.

Cet événement récent souligne la culture participative grandissante au sein de chaque cause et révèle les limites de celle-ci.

En effet, selon moi, ce geste est une réponse à la solidarité féminine et à la mise en avant de la situation actuelle réclamée par les Iraniennes, mais l’acte a été plus que maladroit. Les Iraniennes se coupent des dizaines de centimètres de cheveux pendant que les Françaises en voulant aider, se coupent l'équivalent des pointes ou une frange en signe de protestation. Cette culture participative, nous pousse tous à vouloir tirer vanité en montrant notre soutien à des causes tout en s’appropriant et s’attribuant les combats pour la liberté des autres.

Enfin, les médias numériques et surtout les réseaux sociaux nous donnent la sensation de tout pouvoir et celui d’agir avec d’autres pour des causes communes bien que souvent, nos actes ne soient pas toujours complètement sincères. La culture participative insufflée et inculquée par les réseaux sociaux nous pousse trop souvent à soutenir des causes par souci de consciences qui se s’ensuit ce type d’acte sans réel hommage, loyauté ou dogme .

I want to take some time to share my thoughts on 2023, it's kinda personal and long so you can read it under the cut.

This year has been the hardest year of my adult life. It started with my grandma coming back from the hospital. She was in a terrible state so we had to take care of her almost 24/7. Which was colliding with my work a lot because we we're understaffed. I have very vague memory of the first 4 month of this year because to me it was: go to work, go to my parents to take care of grandma while my parents are at work, go back home, sleep, repeat. Unfortunately grandma passed away near the end of april. But that wasn't the end of my problems, now I had problems with my apartment. Some of you may know I was struggling with bedbugs, I spent over 1k PLN for professional help just for these feckers to come back because they were coming from my neighbors. Then around summer a cable in my kitchen melted and caused a power outage. I'm ending my year with a gaping hole in my bathroom wall because an upstairs neighbor flooded me and the bathroom cabinet had to be removed because it was destroyed by water. It was an awful year for me personally. I'm surprised all that stuff had almost no effect on my art. While picking stuff for this summary I had some hard time picking just one for month. I'm hoping that the next year will be better, because I can't believe it can get any worse. Thank you for following my silly little blorbos from my head, it means so much to me, you have no idea. Here's to more happy Fausts in 2024.
