Cosmere Characters: Would They Be Good at Pulling Pranks?

Yesterday was April 1, aka April Fools Day, a holiday that encourages people to pull pranks. So that got me wondering: if such a holiday existed in the Cosmere, would various Cosmere characters be good at this whole "pranking" thing?

1. Syl: Yes, but only of one type

Syl is a prankster in canon: she likes to stick things together! Your shoes to your floor, your hand to your spear, your butt to your chair...so yes, she is great at pranks. I bet if April Fool's Day existed in the Cosmere, she would be an absolute menace.

2. Lopen: Depends on who you ask...

I think Lopen's pranks would be like his jokes: not intended to be mean, but actually kinda mean. In Dawnshard, Lopen came to learn that his jokes were not universally fun and beloved, and I feel like his journey with pranks would necessarily be similar. He'd love pulling them, though!

3. Wayne: Yes, and everyone has fun

Sanderson once said that the difference between Lopen & Wayne is that Wayne can read the room. So I think Wayne would not only like pranks, but would also be more aware of their effect. Like...if Lopen is tying your shoelaces together when you're late for work, Wayne is putting googly eyes (which he invented) on all of your family photos while you're out.

4. Sarene: Yes (mostly against Iadon)

Sarene, Miss Malicious-compliance-and-weaponizer-of-other-people's-misogyny, would love an excuse to "accidentally" prank Iadon. She'd either do really obvious pranks and blame them on feminine confusion ("Oh dear I just wanted to clean but I guess washing your portrait ruined it??") or do really sneaky pranks that no one could trace back to her (cut to Sarene secretly weakening the seams on all of Iadon's clothing so that a good sneeze will make them all fall off).

5. Kaladin: Not anymore

We know that in canon Kaladin pulled pranks as a kid--he told Tien to save a lurg to dump in their dad's bath later. But I feel like nowadays, Kaladin is too gloomy and glowering to pull pranks. He might just enjoy Syl's sometimes though...

6. Steris: Maybe they're just not the most creative...

I think that if a Pranking Holiday existed, Steris would study up and do a textbook prank. Like, she's replacing Wax's sugar bowl with salt, and then he drinks a sip of salty coffee, and then she says, "Ah ha! You have been Pranked per the Social Conventions of today's Holiday!" And Wax would be genuinely delighted.

7. Dalinar: No--not at any point in his life

Blackthorn Dalinar would think a prank is "stabbing a guy in the leg and laughing." Modern-day Dalinar would be puzzled that anyone actually does pranks--aren't they, you know, kinda beneath you? The Codes would DEFINITELY not allow them.

8. Sigzil: No, too much paperwork

The Prank Authorization Form is 7 pages and takes 5 weeks for review and approval. Who has that kind of time???

9. Lift: Yes, absolutely

I can see Lift positioning buckets of water over, like, Dalinar's door or slicking the floor right as that merchant she saw yelling at kids walks by. Now--imagine Lift & Syl going on a prank spree together. You're welcome.

10. Hoid: Nobody knows

Hoid put paperclips in the pockets of every single one of Elhokar's outfits. He put edible glitter into Rock's stew, turning it into Glitter Stew. He found one of Kaladin's buttons on the ground and straight-up ate it while making direct eye contact.

But...were any of those things pranks? Were they plots? Were they just Hoid being Wit?

Nobody knows.

The year 1991 was not Eddie’s year at all, a fact only further proven true by the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Buckley-Harrington’s. It’s a cozy apartment, all things considered, in downtown Chicago, in a neighborhood that would make Mama Harrington probably clutch her pearls at. Steve and Robin love it, though, which, by proxy, means Eddie loves it, too.

Not now, however. Not as he has to watch Harrington with a boy of his, standing so close that the walls around Eddie seem to cave in on him. The secret smiles, the hands on the elbow, the hip – it’s too much.

When Eddie slinks off onto the balcony, it’s when everyone is too drunk too notice.

“Eddie, hey.”

Well. Almost everyone.

“Steve. What brings you here?”

Harrington looks at him funny. Tilts his head to the side like a fucking Golden Retriever. “I live here, Munson, last time I checked.”

Eddie snorts and fishes out a pack of smokes, offering one to Steve. He declines, of course, because the wrath of Robin Buckley is not something Harrington is willing to evoke even after all these years.

“Are you okay?” Steve asks after a moment. His nose wrinkles at the smell. Or maybe at his choice of words.

“The party’s great, don’t you worry your pretty head.”

“Not what I asked,” Steve frowns, or so Eddie assumes since he’s not willing to check. One look at Steve and Eddie will surely crumble. There’s something about New Year’s Eve that makes people wonder.

“Remember,” Eddie starts but cuts himself off to take a long drag off his cigarette.

A pause. Rewind. Try again.

“Remember when you told me that if a guy swept you off your feet,” Eddie munches on his bottom lip. “You’d consider it.”

“Eddie-“

“And I was a fool that thought that maybe I could be that guy.”

Eddie remembers. It would be impossible not to when it’s been burned into his mind ever since.

I’m sorry, Steve will say. I don’t feel about you that way. And Eddie will have to grit his teeth through it and nod and smile. Hope they can still be friends at the end of the day.

“I didn’t know that was an option,” says a quiet voice to his left.

“What?”

This time Eddie does turn his head and Steve’s there, eyes on the ground. Eddie balks. “But you-“

“You said ‘good luck’,” Steve snaps his head back up. “And shut down on me. How was I supposed to know that you-“

“How could I not?” Eddie throws back. “You’re easy to love.”

Steve pauses. “Love?”

“Yeah,” Eddie slumps against the wall. “Love.”

Warm fingers intertwine with his. “Let me love you, too.”

Lastly, April-Halloween AU is based on Himaruya’s joke tweet where he drew spooky designs for April Fools and greeted everyone Happy Halloween even though it was clearly April 1st. 🤣 You can see the tweet here!

AsaKiku fans (especially the JP ones) honed in on the bit that Arthur and Kiku were both ghosts/spirits that had mysterious letter-writing items with their sprite and it’s a known fact that a lot of their canon relationship during the alliance period revolved around exchanging letters… fans pretty much used this as a starting point and formed lore around it!

One I really enjoyed was a setting where Arthur is a ghost that collects lost letters from around the world and gives them to Kiku, a spirit who can ‘consume(?)’ the memories/emotions engraved into the letters and transcribes them into scrolls. They don’t have any memories from before they died but little by little they find traces of their old lives— This AU has a flavor of bittersweetness that I particularly like. 🥲💕

Rufus’ April Fool’s day 😂 that gave me a good laugh.

I think my favorite bit of it though was the snark regarding the anime hairstyles of the SOLDIERs. Like it genuinely makes me wonder if there’s an in universe reason their hair is like that (yes I know canonically Sephiroth has a hair routine but considering it only takes him five minutes his hair should not remain that perfect even while being swept away by a rushing river) though I do find it kind of hypocritical that Rufus is commenting about said anime hair when he kind of has the same thing going on.

Also I’ve been having a pretty crappy day but your posts have made it a little better. Please never stop writing, I’m sure you improve other people’s days as well as mine 🙏

so i like the april fools shuffle units a normal amount. i have done redesigns for almost all of them and i draw them A Lot.

rambling additional notes on all of the redesigns below

a couple notes if you ever want to draw any of these redesigns for yourself at any point: i'd appreciate being credited for these redesigns (obviously anyone not redesigned i don't need credit for lol) and you don't need to follow my specific skin tone + hair/eye color schemes i have laid out. those are how i personally like to draw the characters and i've included them for anyone who might want to stay completely accurate to my redesigns, but you're welcome to use your own preferred color schemes for the cast when drawing them with these outfits!

now onto the fun(?) stuff

aoharu is pretty straightforward with redesigns, its basically just leoni but with a sun theme instead of stars. adding the image for the color palettes for the unchanged designs just because it has the notes for ichisaki too (their changes were too minor to completely redraw them, in my opinion).

ichika remains entirely unchanged design-wise other than adding a sun pin to her suspenders. saki stays mostly the same too, other than changing the design on her armband and switching her pigtails for a ponytail (in an attempt to seem a little more mature/imitate airi's hairstyle/move on from her childhood self since she's started to believe that honami and shiho want nothing to do with her and ichika anymore).

not too much to say about airi and ena's outfits either, i wanted to go a little more cute with airi and cool with ena, but there's minor changes with both of their hairstyles, with airi switching her pigtails for a ponytail as well (moving on from her idol days but still maintaining her usual sort of style) and ena's hair being a bit longer/messier.

yyj is definitely the most drastic, they're the only unit where i changed every single character... i have a lot of trouble drawing the mmj outfits, but also the lighter color scheme and clover theme just didn't really make sense for yyj to me? so instead i went with a mainly black and character color combo for their color schemes, alongside gold and white to accent it and a more spacey/dreamlike theme. everyone's black and white are slightly tinted with their character colors too!

they're split into pairs for matching accessories, but it doesn't mean much otherwise. kanade and an both have the dangling star charms and a single larger wristband (with those being on opposite sides from each other) as well as no buttons on the front of their outfits, while both hinomoris have the large bows on the backs of their outfits, smaller wristbands on both arms, a legband, and star shaped clips (like the other pair, the clips and legbands are on opposite sides from each other) and they do have buttons. they're split differently for the same style outfits though, with kanade/shizuku and shiho/an being the matching pairs this way.

kanade has the most obvious design changes. i swapped her character color to a medium-light blue rather than red, because tbh she kind of stood out too much if she was still red. she's not meant to be the leader of the unit, she doesn't want to stand out. her hair is a lot shorter than canon and she usually keeps it braided for practice and performances (and leaves it loose otherwise) (both the haircut and style were initially suggestions from shizuku). shes the only member of the unit to wear tights and to lack any star shaped hair accessories.

shizuku i don't have that much to say about, i had designed kanade first and then shizuku to match. its pretty straight forward i think? she's got the tallest socks not counting kanade's tights though.

for both an and shiho i wanted to go a slightly cooler/less feminine direction, while still sticking to the general theme i had going. which lead to the shorts and vest combo! otherwise the only notable change with either of them is that an's changed her clips to two regular gold ones and she's got a ponytail now when they practice/perform, much like kanade's braid.

fts was both very fun and an absolute pain to redesign because on one hand, i can do whatever i want, on the other hand, it's like vbs there's really no consistent theme to carry through everything. except a lot of layers i guess. so my goal was to kind of merge their casual aesthetics with something more vbs-like.

tsukasa wearing his jacket incorrectly was inspired by my own tendency to do so whenever i get too warm. i think he just does it because he thinks it looks cool though (its a little silly and a pain to keep it on but he's committed to the look). also leaving his middle layer as his fish jacket from his casual sprite was a funny little thing i thought worked for him.

with rui my goal was just pockets. lots of pockets. they're probably hiding little robots and tools in those pockets. i should have put more pockets on their pants too but oh well. combine that with wanting some obnoxious bright greens and blues and at least one item that kind of clashed color-wise with the rest (their pants in this case) and this is the result. the sketch doesn't convey it well but their black jacket and pants are both kind of loose, while the green hoodie and tshirt underneath fit okay. also their hair is kind of long if they ever untied it, but no one ever sees that.

hapisen for the most part sticks to their canon sprites, just simplified slightly for my sanity. mafuyu's costume still drives me insane to draw though, that's so many layers to think about.

other than questioning my sanity every time i draw mafuyu, there's only one change from her sprite, which is making her hairtie one decorated with pompoms much like a lot of other parts of her costume. i just thought it tied things together a little more.

the upper half of haruka's outfit is more or less completely unchanged (other than making it fit in a way that looks slightly more masculine), but then i replaced his skirt with pants and gave him boots (wxs meiko, who is the sprite haruka's outfit is originally just a recolor of, wears heels). i figured if i was going for a more princely sort of design for haruka then changing those felt fitting. beyond that he's obviously got shorter hair (a choice he makes after seeing kohane decide to change herself, wanting to embrace the genuine person he wants to be beyond the idol people knew him as) and that's about it. hits this guy with the transgender beam.

kohane's outfit is really just a bit simplified from the original with sizing/proportions of elements adjusted to (in my opinion) suit her better. the ribbons in her hair felt like a cute addition (and i like to give kohane ribbons in general), while her hair length is an in between of her two standard canon ones, longer than the usual one we see but shorter than pre-canon/early mainstory. her glasses are optional, she changes between them and contacts with how she's feeling for the day and what kind of shows hapisen is planning. the more intense the show, the less likely she is to wear her glasses.

kyushumi was kind of intended as niigo but without one member in a mostly white outfit since they don't have someone like kanade who is intentionally trying to save people. although they're also a little happier off anyway, so they don't need someone like that. they're my most drawn shuffle unit, so also probably my most thought-through redesigns.

each design takes slight inspiration from a member of niigo (nene/kanade, minori/ena, honami/mafuyu), but that was just kind of as a personal guide for what kind of vibes to go with for the outfits. they've all got personal touches to them.

nene's hoodie is very loose on her body and arms, but a normal fit in the length, and her shorts are actually long enough to be seen. she just wants to be comfy, she's tired a lot, very low energy girl. glasses because i think nene should wear glasses anyway, so as opposed to canon nene who i like to believe just favors contacts, this nene does not.

minori is pretty obviously similar to ena's outfit, but there's a few nods to mmj in here. she's got clover shaped earrings, the pattern along the bottom of her dress is meant to resemble the tips of the clover leaves from mmj's symbol, and her shoes are just the mmj unit outfit shoes in different colors.

the goal with honami's outfit was simply "how little skin can she have exposed" because i imagine her being more worried about that than usual here. so long sleeves, long skirt, high collar, etc. her hair is longer (for no particular reason tbh, i simply liked how it looks) but still styled the same, and she's got a solid red scrunchie now. the four buttons on her outfit are all meant to look like the moon, two full moons and two opposite facing crescents. also i will never stop joking about the fact that she's naturally the second tallest girl in the cast (not counting vs, then she's third tallest) and i gave her tall heels on top of that. she is towering over all of her unitmates here.

while you're welcome to use these designs for any (non-incest) ships you'd like, i do have a personal list of ships that are canon to my own au with the shuffle units, which is what i originally designed these for. the "canon" ships are

Headcanon A:  realistic

tim ends up the shortest of the four of them. he doesn't really care except that bart will not stop making short jokes despite barely getting more than an inch on him. he does occasionally complain that he's not even particularly short, it's just that kon and cassie are both stupidly tall and make him look like a garden gnome. (bart's words.)

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

there's a cassie-shaped hole in the wall in one room in mt. justice because she just straight up kool-aid man'd it outta there one time when kon and bart started a "did not!" "did too!" "nuh-uh!" "yuh-huh!" argument that went on for the next 40 minutes.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

after kon and bart's return from the dead, they all have to take some time to actually get to know each other again. kon and bart have been changed by death and resurrection; tim and cassie have been irrevoccably altered by grief. the love is there, but so are the Issues. it comes to a head when cassie finds herself being overly protective of kon to the point that he complains about it (a mirror of their dynamic from late yj98); bart confesses he feels like she and tim have been treating him like he's fragile too, lately, like they don't trust him to not just get himself killed again, and it becomes a whole Thing. (they work it out, though! they'll always work things out. they love each other too much not to.)

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

pushes everything post-flashpoint away with my foot. they're all besties and they have grown up together and they have a group chat in which tim gets roasted daily. (they all take turns getting roasted, but as per the impulse aprils fools day issue, tim is bart's favorite victim.) cassie's butch swag and kon's genderqueer pizzazz are off the charts also.

I'm recently entering the world of yanderes men in games, and I started with John doe! Then I played house hunted. But, there are two endings where John doe knows you, do you know which one is canonical?

Oh boy, okay. While I have played John Doe and John Doe+, I never really went into their other games (besides Frost Bite) so I decided to play the two House Hunted games and hoo boy, they are interesting. The first one leans more into horror and what the creatures of House Hunted is while the other one is more of an April Fools one that tells a lot more about John Doe, though I think overall that one is much more fleshed out. I'll go over brief summaries of the two games for House Hunted though before giving my opinion.

House Hunted (the first one) starts out with you going to a city to live at an apartment. After wandering around, eating at a cafe or going straight to the apartment, you are stopped by one Maison Talos, the number one realtor who wants to sell you a house. You decline of course as you already have an apartment. However, upon going there, you find that your apartment is locked and after calling the company find out there's been some trouble so they either need to find a hotel or wait until they can unlock it. From there you can either wander around until you can get back in or meet with Maison. If you decide to go into the house, you find that Maison Talos is actually the house itself, luring you in to eat you. The body he presents is really just a shell used to lure people like you into the house. We find also that the town is actually full of realtors like himself who lure unsuspecting people in to eat them. If you do manage to survive by not going into the house, John Doe ends up spotting you. It's also mentioned that you are starting your job at the gas station tomorrow if you do survive.

The second House Hunted game follows a similar thread of you going to a new town and getting locked out of your apartment, but now with new characters. The realtor that tries to get you to a house is named Heim Baile, but unlike Maison is much more incompetent. You pretty much can tell he's really shady and he doesn't do a good job to hide that he's not a person (considering you can see his cord behind him), but unlike Maison, if you do visit his house, he will actually let you live and watch TV with you, even if you insult him. In one ending, he even asks you out on a date, which is cute. We also meet the mayor's assistant as well as a divorced salary man. The main attraction that we're here for is John Doe of course, as we spot what looks like a cat in the town center. Following it will reveal it's not a cat but rather a black furball with a single eye. He ends up transforming to his human self, except messing up his eye, making him look more like a cyclops. He seems really eager to meet you again despite you not remembering him, and seems to be trying his best to act human despite the obvious one eye. He seems very energetic and is happy hoping to meet you again in the future.

To be honest, I think this might be one of those games that puts John Doe as an easter egg, either in an AU type of way or in the look at my other games kind of way considering that there are also cameos from other games in this one as well (specifically the second one). However, if I were going to be more technical about it, I think that they would both be cannon, and it does make sense for John Doe. In John Doe+ we do find out that John Doe does have the ability to not only make you repeat the same day without any memory of the previous loop, but also change the perception of reality, as he can change his appearance to be more friendly. So it's not a big stretch to think that in both House Hunted worlds, that you is just experiencing the same day over and over again, which is why John Doe might remember them and they don't remember him. That's all just speculation and slightly based off of this collection of twitter posts relating to John Doe lore, but it is confirmed that House Hunted games are supposed to come before the John Doe games, so he has known you for quite a while.

If anyone can find anything on which one is actually canon, that would be nice too! John Doe is really cute in this game and so is Heim in a more awkward pathetic but still a good mannered guy kind of way.

Loosely a continuation to my Kaishin Mutual Obsession & Acceptance HC

Now, when you think of yandere, killing usually comes to mind but that's something I rather explore in a dark kaishin au....murder husbands on the side of justice maybe? Something to think about one day 🤔

Anyways!

This is roughly along the lines of canon-compliant. We've seen Kaito pretending to be Shinichi a number of times and I thought, with their mutual obsession with one another, it could very well cross onto yandere territory

Considering the war against the BO, there'd been a time when Kaito put his life on hold and slips into Shinichi's. Originally, its just his way to help his detective and eventually, he succeeds

Including in fooling Ran too

Maybe in the past, Ran would be able to tell the difference but not anymore

Not in the face of Kaito's obsessive love for Shinichi

Kaito isn't just in love with Shinichi, he wants to completely be a part of who Shinichi is in a way that no one can ever tell where Shinichi ends and Kaito begins

And vice versa

That's why when Shinichi first saw Kaito as Kudou Shinichi standing together with Ran, Sonoko and Masumi on their way to school, it wasn't anger or dread he felt

It was relief

and dare he say it, gleeful joy

Because he knows deep in his bones that Kudou Shinichi is forever safe with KID and even though he didn't really understand it yet, Shinichi also felt an aching pang of longing to do the same-- to be Kuroba Kaito, have him forever be a part of himself

Which he eventually does once he regained his body

April Fools is especially very confusing for their friends and family, more so when they started dating. Because despite the fact they have very different physiques and features as they grew older, it genuinely feels like they're possessing each other

And maybe they are

Everybody has long since accepted that the pair of them are mad for each other so they just let it be

In case of possible suitors? No....just absolutely fucking NO. People learned early on that unless you want to be scarred and traumatized for life, don't even think about it

Ask the catatonic criminals, they know better ever since the first slew were stupid enough to harm either one of the yandere genius pair

The most extreme of their yandere tendencies would be of course in becoming each other as mentioned. While their friends and family have long since accepted it, some bits of it had alarmed them initially. Like knowing secrets and events that only the other should know or the scare the couple almost gave them when both Kaito and Shinichi had seriously considered copying each other's scars

Thankfully that never happened but it gave them all quite a scare

The less said about them being cremated together, the better

So yeah, they're mad and obsessed. They're unhinged. They're unapologetic. But most of all?

They're in love

So, officially, nothing that is released on April Fools day on Neopets is considered to be canon.

Which makes it extra funny to me that Smile Withme is actually Chadley, like what does that even mean then. Like it isn't supposed to be canon, so what was that then? Just a fever dream beamed into the minds of all of Neopia? Why Chadley? Did everyone collectively hallucinate a guy that hasn't been seen for over a decade? (oh my god, it's been over a decade, holy shit...)

Even if it isn't canon though, I just love the idea that after Chadley was effectively booted from Daily Dare for being Too Much, he became some sort of dejected lowlife who swore to make the world see just how great he is and slowly amassed a cult following, which turned into the Smile Withme character. He knew that his face was already known and rejected so he had to hide it, but he couldn't hide his lust for attention power. The event yesterday was a culmination of a decade's worth of rebranding and convincing Neopets everywhere to join him, until he finally felt comfortable going as public as possible and inflicting his message onto the masses of Neopia. To you the mask may be a fun and kinda creepy toy, but to him it is a representation of your devotion to him! Wear the mask with caution!

A Trip Down Nostalgia Lane

This AU's been in existence for so long, and the most current iteration is so wildly different from the rest. As such, I felt it'd be kinda cool to show you guys how the AU's progressed over the years. I don't think it's too big of a problem to reveal what the initial plans were for each iteration, what I liked and didn't like, and my thought process behind forgoing the old ones

If you don't particularly care for all that, here's the iterations' major characters lined up. (Iteration 4 I only have revealed Asriel and Undyne, so the rest I've designed so far are silhouetted)

Iteration 0.5

Oh boy, where to begin with this one...?

I number it "0.5" and not "1" because there were only two parts that never even officially released on this Tumblr blog. I did upload Part 1 for an April Fool's joke a while ago. But really, it was only ever present on the TS!Underswap Discord server over half a decade ago.

To put it bluntly, Versotale at this point was just a reskinned Undertale roleswap AU. The personalities, while I tried to keep them intact, were not the main driving force. As such:

Asriel is a silent protagonist (And not in a cool clever way like Kris; I mean just straight-up silent)

The only difference with Undyne as a narrator was noting that Frisk was a human at the first save point

Flowey had a more formal speech pattern but was otherwise barely affected despite carrying Chara's consciousness. They weren't even named Asthana yet.

Frisk... well, I can give my past self this, he certainly made an effort to differentiate Frisk from Toriel. I can't say he did a GOOD job at that, but they certainly were different. Awkward dialogue, though, and not much sense behind why they were the mayor of the Ruins at 13 years old

Overall, you can 100% tell I made this as a young teen. Awkward dialogue, barely any effort put into the concept, unoriginal...

It's pretty easy to see why I forewent this version of the AU. Only two parts were ever made. I must thank @beethovenus who gave me a lot of very helpful critiques, such as giving Asriel a voice and making original sprites rather than using sprite edits, as well as encouraging me to make this Tumblr blog for it. Thus, brings us to what I'd like to consider the first PROPER attempt at this AU...

Iteration 1

Ah, this one... this ALSO lasted only two parts. Can't remember why. But I made a lot more headway on this one. Quality aside, I am happy that I had the guts to try and make original sprites of my own back then, even if they aren't particularly good compared to now.

This was where I really attempted to make the characters act noticeably different. Though there were still quite a lot of problems, some that would even persist all the way up until Iteration 4.

I wanted to give Asriel a combination of his regular and Flowey personalities. A cool idea on paper, but the lore doesn't support him acting like that well enough. Thus, I refer to this version of him as Sassriel. This was one of those problems that persisted up until Iteration 3.

Undyne having this snarky back-and-forth with Sassriel. Again, cool idea on paper, but it is not supported by her personality in Undertale, nor the altered circumstances in VT Iteration 1. Also, with Undyne being a disembodied consciousness, it means she's merely an observer of the story and not an active participant, meaning her dialogue got very boring very fast. Undyne in canon was always an active character, so putting her in a role that basically FORCED her to be a passive character was maybe one of the worst decisions I could've made that lasted way too long, all the way until Iteration 4.

You'll notice a whole bunch of characters that never actually saw the light of day in the comic. In the bottom row, starting from left to right, there would have been Pepper (Who DID have a design but I've lost it), Donavan, Dr. Aakil, Lily, and Queen Alice. There's not much to say about them story-wise since I mainly just got the designs down, and you can probably guess what the plot was gonna be like given this was the early days of the AU where it was still very much following the Undertale formula. I think the only UNIQUE things I should mention are that Aakil's version of the amalgamates would've been cyborgs.

Iteration 2

This is the one that's lasted the longest (so far), managing to push its way into the Cold West. I tried to break out of the Undertale formula a tiny bit with this one, to varying degrees of success. There's not much history I can recall or find with this iteration, but I suppose I can give a character rundown of the ones you never saw, ironically enough all positioned on the bottom row again.

Donavan... not very unique compared to Undyne. The main gimmick that separated him from her, I think, was that he had gloves designed by Aakil that were soul-powered.

Valencia... a new character who was meant to be an expanded version of Napstablook's role. Fun fact: Valencia's hooded trenchcoat design there was originally Pepper's Iteration 1 design.

Everyone else was... about what you'd expect.

Looking back on this version, I am... honestly very embarrassed by how badly I butchered the Cold West. I wanted to do so many cool things, like a bounty on Asriel's head and all. But my God... Spade and Pepper sucked so much. Especially Pepper. For characters who at this point were meant to be this AU's replacement of Sans and Papyrus... what poor substitutes.

And honestly, I think that's why I scrapped this one; because I hated the Cold West and how I did it. It felt rushed, awkwardly-written, bad characterization, horrifically-bad puzzles, etc. Thus, Iteration 3 was made.

Iteration 3: Hybrid

I nicknamed this short-lived one "Hybrid" for multiple reasons.

It's where Deltarune became an extremely prevalent influence in Versotale's universe. So no longer is Versotale just an Undertale AU, it can also be considered a Deltarune AU as well.

Many characters could be considered hybrids at this point. Asriel and Undyne shared determination and a body. And, more interestingly, the Mettaton role also shared a body with Mettaton. More about that in a bit

When I was making Part 10-B of Iteration 2, Iteration 3 was meant to flow naturally into it, effectively replacing all of what had came beforehand. That never worked out.

Ultimately, I abandoned this version because it just simply wasn't doing it for me. By this point, the project was beginning to feel stale and boring. Despite my attempts to make a new unique storyline, it just kinda... felt like it was still following in Undertale's footsteps far too much. I mean, you've got the protagonist kid, an old fallen member of their species, the double-crossing flower, a mentor who's lived in a secluded area all their life, a chef who wants to join the guard, a tough grizzled guard captain, a morally-dubious scientist, a celebrity, a monarch... you see how I became dislliusioned with the quality of what was supposed to be my "Unique Undertale storyline." The most unique thing at this point WAS probably Spade. But still, many elements of this version of the story were very fleshed-out. I tried to turn Pepper into a character who wasn't just a bargain-bin Papyrus clone, I had come up with a more unique Hotland area, and it probably could've turned out really nice.

I think the thing I genuinely really liked from this old version was that Shella (This iteration's celebrity character) actually was also possessed by Mettaton. There was this huge backstory thing where the scientist character had monster dust and was injecting humans with it, and since Mettaton was a ghost, his consciousness became attached to Shella's and served as her sort of "assistant." He gave her all the tips and confidence to become famous and gave Mettaton the opportunity to indirectly entertain humans like he always wanted. While a cool idea on paper, having... well, essentially Mettaton technically in the same place as canon Undertale again just felt cheap and lazy. Not to mention it only continued my disillusionment with my "unique story" being far too similar to Undertale for comfort.

But the Surface shenanigans this iteration... man, for as weird as Gaster being king was, I had such a cool thing planned for all the Ebottobia characters. It's something I wanna carry over into Iteration 4 to a certain extent.

Iteration 4: "King Asriel"

This one's really freaking cool. Going back to the drawing board completely, the story resembles almost nothing like Undertale's, with the sole exception of the main premise: People underground, free them from imprisonment through peace or violence.

I'm so proud of these ideas so far, you have no idea. The new Ruins area I'm excited for, the new Cold West feels like an actual proper flowing storyline now, the other areas have way more uniqueness, the characters feel like their own characters with their own stories now (Even the ones that appear in canon), the plot feels completely different... I think you all are really going to like it

That's all. Just felt like taking a trip down memory lane and share some ideas and designs the public never got to see.

And THEN, to add to this juicy drama, I made a DEAL with Izunia/Hojo/the Devil to spam me with Sephiroth stuff instead, in exchange for your damned soul. Naturally, Hojo being Izunia being the Devil, only a partial deal was struck and the spam was limited to “once a week,” or “whenever Sephiroth received bullying from Katy” dfsvgbhaj. SO I KINDA SAVED THE DAY? SOMEWHAT?

@izunias-meme-hole I have to laud you though, because framing this as a harassment campaign from “Chairwoman H” is some of the funniest meta humor I’ve seen. Silver Elite being the canonical top and most powerful Sephiroth fan-club secretly run by Hojo is crazy enough, and if Sephiroth had a dedicated hater, Hojo probably would absolutely try to destroy that person by anonymously shoving as much propaganda in their face as possible.

Aside from being April Fools and Angel's birthday, today is also the first day of the Ace Alastor Week so here's a thing a made with the prompts for today: Cake Day and friday's Friendship Friday (cause there's no way I'd be able to make a fanart for each prompt)

I've drawn everything here except for the background, that's a screenshot from Al's deer-eating scene where I edited him out and gave it a more purple lighting for obvious reasons

Also taking this oportunity to introduce one of my Hellaverse OCs, Livia. I'll be posting a character sheet sometime soon, but just say she's also ace, though not aro, and she and Alastor have a sort of father/daughter relationship (cause I'm a sucker for a found family trope). So yeah, this is NOT an OC/canon thing (not that I have anything against that)
