The Moroccan landscape, traditions and communities behind argan and its oil.
Tumblr media
Despite its proximity to several spots along Morocco’s tourist trail, Chtouka Ait Baha’s empty desert mountainscapes are worlds away from the colorful, bustling streets of the country’s cities. However, the relatively remote area is home to the incredible argan tree, a treasure of Morocco that provides one of the country’s most valuable exports: argan oil. r u as autistic as me. do you also wonder what will graham and hannibal lecter would smell like cologne / perfume wise ….. HERE R MY TAKES!!!!!!
will graham: i think he would smell like burned wood, forest berries, honey liquor, damp moss and fresh cotton. a very forestial homey mature scent with hints of vanilla and motor oil. like taking a walk in the woods during an october storm and coming back home to a raspberry and chocolate cake, made to eat at the fireplace, and revealing a caramelized cream on the inside once you bite into it. and for a fancier perfume, worn at the opera, definitely something with sour cherries, roses, chocolate and smoke. something playful and sexy with the trace of something darker once u get too close. something that whispers to not follow him into the street’s alleyway during the bathroom break …
hannibal lecter: he’d smell like jasmin, sparkling champagne, the hot steam of pressed silk, disinfectant, leather, and vanilla cream. very cold and clean, with an electrical and perverted feel, like visiting an abandoned but still clean cubicle office at night. similar to a too strong air freshener in a dark forbidden-to-enter basement. and in fancier occasions, never something too loud and spicy. he’d choose a more volatile scent, something to easily blend in the crowd but still make invitees smile when they lean in to shake his hand, maybe a little bit feminine ? night roses and oak , with a hint of hand-warmed argan. always smelling too good to make you discover the acid and blood in his basement …

Dé sorud! Me again! Two slightly more specific questions: firstly, in the fic I'm writing, I do reference the Order of Sanctuary as a loose sort of organisation that most of the previous Handmaidens/aides of monarchs are a part of (unless they cut ties entirely after their service) and some of whom assist in training the current Canâk. That's not the best explanation of what they are but I was wondering, if it's not too much trouble, how you might go about translating the Orders name?
And the second question: I know in the queen's novels we're given the surnames of four of the Handmaidens (and the given names of all the Handmaidens in the movies barring Motée - but I think you said in a previous post you have her previous name as Motil) and I was wondering if you had any surnames for (specifically) Sabé, Dormé, Versé, Cordé, Ellé or Motée? No trouble if not, I just love the translations you created for the canon names!
Thank you again!
Hi again!
Order of Sanctuary: Fonué so' Cabeet
I haven't thought of any last names for the handmaidens specifically, but here are some general surnames I have thought of for no specific character:
Tonne
Milaé (forest guardian)
Rémâg (oréasun watcher)
Nosonde (high bridge)
Suchil (river crossing)
Argan / Ycanne / Yenrân (toponymic, central village)
Hodden (toponymic, great village)
Rorne / Yorn (toponymic, of the mountain)
Teecak (toponymic, below the mountain)
Soju (toponymic, eastern parts of the continent)
Camadim (from an old position, lit. 'watcher of the gate')
Mott
Sonât (from the vocational name 'armourer')
Kéck (from the vocational name 'smith')
Noforo (from the vocational name 'baker')
Meero / Nimmero / Neeman (from vocational names meaning 'farmer')
Hope this helps!

Via Flickr:
(1) Sheets drying at our hotel in Essaouira. (4) We only saw one argan tree with goats on the drive between Marrakech and Essouira. There were signs that it was a rehabilitation area for the argan forests. The goats really damage the trees, so other ways of extracting the seeds are being used.

Yeah you know better than Attenborough and his entire research time…
respectfully, unlike him, i have never stepped foot on a plane let alone spent my entire professional career zooming around the planet, so yes, actually, with regards to this, yes i think i do know better. does he know more than me about the behaviour patterns and mating habits of various species? of course, he is eminent in his field. is he being duped along with the rest of the green movement? sadly yes, i think so.
ill say this until the cows come home: the entire modern concept of environmentalism is being buoyed along on false pretenses, because everyone wants some clever scientific/technological solution to the climate issue, but nobody wants to live a simpler life, consume less, and be less reliant on technology. spending billions on state of the art hydroponic farms to meet the global food demand is not the solution, neither is burning down ancient forest for agriculture. the soy and palm industries are so intimately connected with the meat industry, its a joke on anyone who becomes vegan for moral reasons. remember how soy and palm were supposed to be the ~green~ solution to meat and petroleum products? i remember... until we all saw the footage of those poor orangutans orphaned to make space to grow it. oops! we dont use palm oil now, we use a mix of palm and argan oil or whatever in our ~natural~ haircare brand.
essentially, wrt 'plant-based' food, my opinion is basically: your mcplant soyburger is just as bad as a bigmac, in every single way, and it is literally the same megacompanies that produce both, and the raw ingredients, and this is all so you can ~feel~ like youre doing something good for the planet without actually doing anything. the same with cardboard straws etc or when they invest in intensive forestry under the guise of 'planting one tree for every one we cut down' etc etc. sickening.
i could go on, but i think ive made myself clear. there is no technological/industrial solution to a problem directly caused by the rise of technology/industry. anyone who tries to tell you different is either a fool or has probably made significant business investments in those sectors.

what shampoo or hair products do u use?
Hey anon!
So, first of all I need to preface this by saying I'm not sure how helpful this is going to be to you in particular because my hair is dyed blonde (I too have fallen victim the unhinged bleaching persuasion rip scalp) so a lot of the products I use are for colored hair specifically but I will try to group it all together for you
Specifically for dyed hair I mostly use products from the Schwarzkopf BlondMe Care series (once every 10 days as per my hairdresser's recommendations) and in particular the detox shampoo + light mask the neutralizing shampoo with the purple toner the conditioner and the restoring balm and sometimes I alternate them with the medavita ice blond enhancing shampoo and the shampoo and mask from the schwarzkopf bonacure color freeze series.
From general products for broader hair types -here's the thing: I had an entire paragraph typed up here for you but I did some google searching before hitting post because I do not want to be that one irresponsible person that promotes things that have potentially harmful substances inside - and some of these products do have silicone in them so I am not deleting this but feel free to ignore this/disregard it/don't read/proceed with caution etc however it suits your needs
my favorite shampoos +conditioner combos are from herbal essences (I am very sensitive to smell and all of them smell so good especially the white grapefruit and mango ones), once every now and then I also like to use the head n shoulders citrus anti dandruff shampoo (on the one hand it leaves my scalp tingling but on the other it leaves my scalp tingling) and generally I have found pantene pro v classic clean to be nice to fall back on because it keeps my hair surprisingly non oily for quite a while. On the higher price end I also use the moroccanoil treatment + conditioner and the Kerastase nutritive shampoo but I have heard these might be a bit too heavy if you have thinner hair so putting that caution out there
Again it might be a bit too heavy for thinner hair but after much and arduous search the most effective thing that has saved my hair from tangling like an evil wicked witch's unholy forest is the L'Oreal Elvive Dream Long restorative mask I owe this baby my life
and last but not least my absolute favorite oil in the world the bumble and bumble invisible oil primer which stays on the hair nicely and makes it feel like silk without weighing it down but shoutout to the l'oreal elvive extraordinary oil (for colored hair) and the lorvenn argan exotic oil which I use in the summer for uv protection

Natural skincare products are formulated using ingredients sourced from nature, such as plant extracts, essential oils, and botanicals. These formulations often avoid synthetic chemicals and harsh additives, making them gentler on the skin and more environmentally friendly.

Dick generally smells like whatever cologne he's decided on wearing that day - he has a small collection, fairly balanced between warmer and cooler scents - with a trace of apricot and argan oil thanks to his preferred shampoo/conditioner. Nightwing smells like kevlar with a trace of sweat.
Loki, at this point, smells like coffee [considering his mainverse on here has him running a cafe and coffee is a scent that Lingers™] Beneath that, though, Loki smells of frost and leather, and a trace of woodsmoke. On the rare occasions he does use cologne it tends to be a cooler scent akin to a winter evergreen forest, with just a hint of spice to it.

Argan oil factory
Argan Oil Factory: A Journey Through Morocco's Modern Argan Oil Factories
Tumblr media
Introduction
Derived from the indigenous Moroccan Argania Spinosa tree, argan oil is a valuable and sought-after natural elixir, often referred to as "liquid gold." Its versatility permits its use in various applications, including beauty and culinary industries. The emergence of modern argan oil factories in Morocco has helped to meet the increasing demand for this precious oil. In this article, we will examine the production of argan oil and its importance to local communities and the global
market.
Traditional versus Modern Production Methods
Historically, argan oil production required local Berber women to manually harvest, dry, and press the kernels to extract the oil, making it a labor-intensive process.
Nevertheless, the increasing demand for argan oil has spurred the development of modern production facilities. These facilities are equipped with advanced machinery that simplifies the extraction process, all while ensuring the oil's quality and authenticity are preserved.
The Production Process in Modern Argan Oil Factories
Modern argan oil factories employ a meticulous and hygienic production process to guarantee the highest quality oil. This process comprises four steps:
Firstly, during the harvesting season from May to August, workers collect the fallen argan fruits from the Argania Spinosa trees.
Next, the fruits are sun-dried, and the outer pulp is removed to obtain the argan nuts.
After that, specialized machines are used to crack the hard shells of the argan nuts to extract the kernels.
Finally, the kernels are cold-pressed to extract the oil, preserving its nutrients and properties. The unroasted kernels produce cosmetic argan oil, while the roasted kernels yield culinary argan oil.
The Role of Women's Cooperatives
Argan oil factories in Morocco often collaborate with women's cooperatives to create job opportunities and support the local community. These cooperatives aim to
safeguard traditional knowledge and skills while promoting equitable wages and safe
working environments for women engaged in argan oil production. By working hand in hand with these cooperatives, argan oil factories help to preserve the cultural heritage and economic well-being of the communities they serve.
Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Practice
Argan oil factories have prioritized sustainable and eco-friendly practices. They
responsibly source argan fruits, adhere to organic standards, and minimize waste during production. Moreover, these factories are actively involved in reforestation efforts aimed at preserving and expanding the Argania Spinosa forests, which are
recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. By adopting these sustainable practices, argan oil factories demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding the environment and the livelihoods of the communities they work with.
Impact on the Global Market
Morocco's argan oil factories play a crucial role in meeting the growing global demand for this prized oil. They ensure a steady supply of high-quality argan oil,
which has driven the growth of various industries, including cosmetics, skincare, and culinary sectors. As a result, Morocco has become the world's top producer and
exporter of authentic argan oil. The emergence of modern argan oil factories has transformed the production process. By balancing traditional methods with market needs, these factories maintain the quality and authenticity of argan oil. Additionally, they empower local communities and promote sustainable practices that protect the Argania Spinosa forests. Thus, the establishment of these factories has ushered in an era of growth, sustainability, and prosperity for both local and global communities

Sometimes Beth needs to be a sweater. The kind that you tie in front of yourself, while the body of it lies down your back. Her arms hang over his shoulders, she is kneeling on a stool behind him while he kneads bread. Normally in the kind of warm space needed to make dough rise such closeness would be nigh unbearable but the little witch uses her command of elemental forces to help foster a much cooler, much more pleasant environment between them. The space they occupy is just under seventy degrees while the rest of the kitchen is quite hotter.
She presses her cheek to his shoulder blade, lets her eyes close half way, which is how she blinks and sometimes sleeps. It gives the impression that she might be missing some nictitating membrane like some of her kin have, though she never personally brings it up. Nuzzling the space between his shoulders her sharp sense of smell picks up a melange of scents; Dove deodorant and the original soap bar, which might explain why Chris’ skin is often so soft. Just above that clean freshness, there’s a layer of something that she would call water-woods. She can’t tell if its palo santo or drift wood because it is that subtle, but there’s a hint of salt and maybe lotus or water lily too. Whatever the scent, it’s neither terribly masculine nor feminine. Like a certain porridge in a certain fable, it’s just right for him. Right now he also smells creamy like butter, warm like the brick oven, a touch of yeast from the dough. Sometimes he smells like cupcakes; vanilla and lemon. Cinnamon and lei-flower and sandalwood when she ends up leaving her own scent behind.
Chris smells like sunshine and spring rain. He smells like wood-and-leather spaces and the unique smell that comes with books. He smells like slushies and heat radiating from sidewalks and summers spent indoors because it’s too hot to be outside, the human body ~witch or not~ cannot moderate those soaring temperatures. He smells like pine forests and hikes up in the mountains and camping under the stars. He smells like fairy tales and sad song playlists and popcorn leaving residue on their fingertips. Chris smells like every good moment, and he softens all of the bad ones.
“You smell good.”
Somethings would never change. It wasn’t that long ago that the baker and nurse were in the same position. Chris used to hate spending his after school time kneading dough, no doubt due to the combined heat of the desert state and the kitchen.  A focused frown would always rest on the young man’s face, doing his best to make sure the dough was perfect less he get yelled at again.
Somehow, Beth had a certain intuition about Chris’s mood.
Perhaps it was due to their shared status as the family quiet kid. Maybe it was the fact that they spent so much time together, she could pick up on his little tells. Either way, it always lead to her serving as a comforting sweater of sorts. Even with the past hellfire temperature of the kitchen, Chris found some comfort in her embrace.
Even with the growing blush on his face.
A habit that would still appear in his 20′s.
Memories of the Luna family home came to mind. Despite living in a 2 bathroom home, he still had to share his bathroom with his aunts and older sister. No doubt due to their room being closer to Alice and Angela’s side of the house. 13 and still figuring out what he liked. Anxious eyes stare down the various options in the bathroom.
A bar of Dove. Lavender and Chamomile body wash (belonging to Alice), a brand reading ‘Vanilla with Sprinkles and Magic’ (Angela of course) and finally an Argan Oil body wash. Decisions. Decisions.
‘People like a man who smells nice kid, trust me.’
‘Listen here, mijo. The ladies love a man who always smell fresh. Take it from ya tio, Camillio’
Important advice from two men that the young Luna looks up to. Despite picking the average bar of soap, he makes a call to try his sister’s soap to see if maybe that’ll add a nice fragrance. He would make sure to pay her for its use later. A decision that would lead to many compliments from the family, classmates and most importantly...Beth.
He takes a moment to relax in her embrace, a relaxed sigh escaping his lips.
Just as she takes in his scent, he remembers how relaxing she was when close. Memories of summer trips to sacred springs. Perfectly cool water and slushies from the 711 near her house (the best one in Arizona if you asked him). A hint of lemon and just a dash of mint, no doubt from the special lemonade blend that he loved so much.
Of course, the hint of the ocean’s saltwater. She did return from a trip back home and he knows that she spent her time surfing the best waves. A passion he’s always loved seeing her explore. With another sigh, he’s reminded of the most important aroma.
Home.
“Gracias mi amor,” he replies. “You smell amazing.”
