I'm obsessed with Nami in the realm of female character writing, because on the surface her arc is to be saved by a guy/group of guys, and generally with female characters that's used to take away their agency or power and/or support a romance. But with Nami...it does none of that. Her story is about learning to depend on others, but rather than reducing her power in any way, it increases it. The isolation she experienced before wasn't independence, but part of her oppression, so having a family to support her gives her infinitely more freedom.
Luffy is her captain, but the way Luffy does that is never to lord over people, it's to raise them up with him. And, importantly, he waits for it to be her choice. He stays supportively in reach until she asks for his help. The only time he intervenes without permission is to stop her from actively harming herself. And when he does intervene, it's not to whisk her away and keep her somewhere else safe where she's dependent on his security and protection, it's to literally beat the crap out of her oppressor so he's never a problem again and she's free to live her life either way. And although Sanji acts romantically toward her and the rescue follows his grand ideals of fighting for a beautiful lady, there's no expectation that she now owes him anything or has to give him a chance just because he helped her out of an abusive situation. He did it because he cared, not in exchange for anything. They were all willing to fight and bleed for her with next to nothing in return, and that's so vital.
Nami being a woman is definitely relevant to her story (using her beauty and pretend helplessness to steal without suspicion, the fact that she takes after her mom who was tough as nails in the male-dominated marines, the very real isolation and fear of being female surrounded by [fish]men with power over her), but it's important to note that she doesn't need saving because she's a woman, or due to any weakness on her part. She is shown as incredibly strong, brave, and clever, right from the beginning, but she was trapped in a situation with Arlong that would've been impossible for anyone to get out of alone. Now with a crew by her side, she no longer has to.

zoro really thought that after fighting hachi (after fighting countless other fishmen), the worst wound he's ever gotten reopening, has a fever, and barely being able to move that it was still his responsibility to save luffy. one one hand its a very sweet idea on the other.... babygurl u have no concept of time it’s been over five minutes & completely out of ur hands. he would have drowned already if genzo n nojiko didn't take the plunge. its the thought that counts everyone knows he's ur priority but pls sit ur ass down <3

Yes I’m still reeling from One Piece Live Action.
That said, I wanna share the cover page out of all the one piece manga cover pages, that made a deep mark on me. Every time I see it, I always feel like my heart’s gonna burst.
It’s amazing. I even feel the emotion coming from every single panel. It makes you feel the depth and lengths the boys will go for Nami. East Blue crew really have a different grasp on me. I love them all!
OPLA may have tone down and cut some significant parts in their episodes during Arlong Park but still we have the manga and the anime to delve into, in case the pain from the live action series isn’t enough.

A really small op moment I think about so much is when Nojiko got a big tattoo on her arm to make Nami feel less alone with the tattoo Arlong forced on her. It was such a desperately deeply loyal thing for a young child to do. She couldn't take her little sister out of this situation so she did whatever she could to support her when she came home. It must have been so scary to get a big, permanent mark when she was so young. But maybe she wasn't scared at all. Just determined. Maybe even happy to have thought of something to make Nami feel close to her and supported. She sure was happy when she showed it off to her. God😭😭😭😭😭

i 100% understand why OPLA shortened it but seeing the live action of zoro being captured by the arlong pirates + his reaction to nami allegiance reveal and nami gloating about it + him throwing himself into the pool and her immediately diving in to save him + nami realising that she fell for his test would have been so good, especially w the actors' chemistry

I will never be normal about how zoro can't seem to take his eyes off his captain like even though luffy is stronger than him?? Like i've talked about this many many times before (probably) but the way he keeps an eye on luffy, making sure that luffy is okay??? Zoro and his luffy-oriented brain i swear... like how he is always trying to make sure that his captain is fine 24/7, i'm just-
Like for example, when he is waiting/looking out for luffy's arrival in jaya arc. (Also happened in adventure of nebulandia!)
Or him keeping an eye on luffy in punk hazard. Watching his captain from a perfect & safe distance.
Or it's also about how zoro likes to check on his captain. Voicing his concern, making sure that nothing is wrong with his captain by directly asking luffy about it (if he notices anything unusual from luffy)
Also thinking about zoro and his priority when it comes to luffy (luffy aka his number one priority, really)
Zoro and his worry wart side when it comes to his 'idiot' captain (tbh if i have to put all the panels (from the manga) for every time zoro worries about his beloved captain here, i don't think i can, cause it's zoro)
Like i just think it is crazy how much he cares for his captain, like yeah every single one of the strawhats are like that too, but with zoro it is very visible every. single. time. Like oda really shoved it into our face?? like yeah, zolu my absolute beloved<333
bonus, lil sanuso in the corner<3

peak comedy is luffy looking for the melon&ham combination just to stumble onto genzo talking to bell-mere’s grave & for genzo’s suppressed dad genes to jump at the opportunity to express themselves in full force & try to give luffy the “if u ever hurt my daughter I’ll kill u” talk, and for luffy (someone genzo had no chance of beating up) to be like “k weirdo why would I ever do that……..but to confirm……. No ham?”
