Snk 121 explained
I have already seen a few wild guesses and takes on this chapter. So let me explain how I think it works.
Tumblr media
We learned that the Attack Titans ability is to evade time, and travel through it both forward and back.
I have seen some people struggle to interperet this, thinking Eren can manipulate any person of his choosing, such as Mikasa and Armin.
I don’t believe that to be the case. Eren can travel back and forth, manipulating and influencing people, but they must be of the Attack titan lineage.
In other words, Eren can only communicate with previous and future Attack Titan Holders, such as Grisha and Kruger. Eren cannot however communicate with, or influence other people and shifter, such as Armin and Mikasa.
Eren can also only travel through the past and future of the Attack titan. He cannot view anything outside of its path. For example, Eren will never be able to view any memories of Castle Utgard. He was not there when any of it happened, and hence neither was the Attack Titan or any predecessor. So Eren will never be able to view that memory. He can only travel through his own memories, Grisha’s memories, and Kruger’s memories. The only way for Eren ever to have seen what happened at Utgard, is to have a successor being present at the time.
All of this also means, that there are many situations outside of the control of Eren’s titan ability. Remember when Reiner and Bertholdt transformed? Eren, even if he had seen the memory, would have been unable to fo anything against it. Eren cannot control Reiner and Bertholdt’s actions, he also cannot communicate to them in the way he did with his father. This also explains his surprise at discovering that Reiner had rushed the attack in Paradise just a few chapters earlier.
A moment that he could have however changed, would have been to tell his fathers that the walls are about to be breached. But he did not, for some reason Eren decided that this would be the place his mother dies. Even Grisha could not understand why Eren did not warn him about the day the walls would fall.
Tumblr media
Now as for why Zeke is there too, he is not an Attack Titan. He just got to be there through Eren.
It is possible to think of what Eren is doing to being similar to what Karl Fritz is doing.
While Eren is telling Grisha what to do, Karl is probably telling Frieda what to do. Frieda’s purple eyes are a string indication of this. They are both being influenced by shifters outside the realm of time.
Of course Frieda can’t see Eren there, influencing and talking to Grisha, just like Grisha and Eren can’t see Karl Fritz, influencing and talking to Frieda.
In summary, Eren’s ability is not time travel per say. He cannot influence or talk to anyone outside the path of the Attack Titan, hence some circumstances are beyond his ability to intervene, while others are completely unaccessible. He can only see and act on what the Attack has seen and will see.
This is why we have not seen any memory that dosn’t have Grisha or Eren himself inside it. Eren won’t ever be able to access Armin or Reiner’s memories, only the attacks.
Snk chapter 122
Tumblr media
As of now we have Eren chasing after Ymir, about to tackle her. I am sure he will achieve this. It must be remember that thus far, every time Eren and a royal have come in contact, there has been a surge of memories. With Eren touching Ymir, we might not only get vital memories of Eren, but also Ymir Fritz memories as well. Memories of how all of this started; her childhood, adulthood, the contract, and her death. All vital information to the story.
[I’m still pretty damm upset and annoyed about all of this, but writing this helped.]

Why would Isayama, who puts so much importance into the idea that good and evil merge into one another, that they have no meaning and that almost everyone in history has contributed to cruelity; that war, especially such an endless one, has no real winners, simplify it by taking a path that completely wipes out one side?
Because it won't happen. If there is one thing Eren has learned during his time in Marley, then probably that the best way to earn a sense of community is through a common enemy. This is not a foreign concept. That's what the Nazis did in Germany's darkest hour. They blamed Jews for the wretched time after World War I. That opportunity was given because of it's people's vulnerable state. That's the same thing Willy Tybur did. Developing a community spirit through a common enemy just before Marley's collapse.
Tumblr media
Eren is visibly moved by that and shortly after reveals himself as that enemy, the enemy of humanity in front of all eyes and in a moment of unity.
Tumblr media
In chapter 123, he has every Eldian in the Paths, including his enemies he fought in Marley. The question is, why does Eren tell them about what he will do? Why doesn't he continue to stay in secrecy and just do it? They will know it anyway and if nobody knows nobody can stop him. I think he needs their testimony. Especially those from the enemies who formed an union with the rest of the world and came to Paradis to fight them.
And that's where Armin comes into play.
Tumblr media
So far Armin, who according to Eren will be the person who saves the world, has not made any decision relevant to the final arc. There must also be more to the reason that Armin was choosen to stay alive other than because "Erwin's role is done and no longer relevant". Which leads me to Isayama's statement:
"At first I explored emulating The Mist, but now you could say that I’m moving in a more peaceful direction, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy,” Isayama said as he explained where he hopes to take Attack on Titan (via Fuku Shuu)
In volume 1 of The Guardians of the Galaxy, the Dark Aster threatens to destroy the galaxy, but the Guardians stop him in time. So my first thought was that it will be Eren who will stop Zeke, but now I think it will be Armin, possibly Mikasa too, who will stop Eren.
Until now Armin and Mikasa have felt guilt and regret for not taking a different path that could have stopped Eren from committing those actions. With Mikasa saying it was already to late.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that those two will decide with a heavy heart take action at the next opportunity. If his own people defeat the "devil of Paradis", who will still consider Paradis a scapegoat?
For sure the discrimination of Eldians is so rooted in that world that it certainly wouldn't disappear. However, it would at least secure them the right to live without being annihilated.

Do you like how Armin has been described on his Attack on Titan wikia page?
Altogether,I think it’s a very standard, ok surface description. It’s great for looking upsomething you’re unsure about, but I don’t think you get the depth of thecharacters from the wiki in general. And it might just be me, but I get a veryanime-leaning vibe from the site, so I don’t consult it very often. There is a point I want to make about Armin being an unreliable narrator, andI’m going to use this ask as my opportunity to touch upon it, but first, I’llnitpick on some other stuff I found, since you ask:
“Althoughhe appears to be the physically weakest of the 104th Taning Corps, his intelligence and strategic genius makes him an invaluable asset, especiallywhen paired with Hange Zoë’s mind,” the wiki says in the introduction. Well, Ihave two issues with this: the first is the claim that Armin appears to be theweakest of the 104th. This is why I say the wiki feels eerilyanime-favoring; in the anime, things are sometimes simplified, and we get theshortcut, gimmicky version of the manga. Its logic goes like this: “Armin isweak, his issue is inferiority due to that weakness, and he didn’t graduate topten. Conclusion: he is the weakest of the class.” But this isn’t necessarilytrue; top ten is the icing on the cake. Did they not see all the unnamed cadetson the training grounds? In the smartpass interview, when asked if he couldtake down Historia in combat, Armin didn’t even dignify the question with ananswer, he merely asked if he really looked that weak. And even if he came in absolutelast place – out of what, fifty cadets – it could be due to more than strength:it could be stamina, stealth, etc. Drawing such under-developed conclusions as“he is the weakest” is what I dislike with the anime, and the false narrativethat it pushes onto the fans until they believe it. They simplify thecharacters, and I think in Armin’s case, it’s the reason why so many walk awaythinking he is weak and useless, when in reality that description hardly fitshim.
Secondly, the Hanji comment, to me, seemed absolutely unnecessary and out of place. Arminis an invaluable asset, period. He can’t be more invaluable by addingan extra component. Invaluable is invaluable. If they wanted to say that heworks well with the new commander, that point could find a much more naturalplace somewhere else in the text. Adding this to the very introduction ofArmin’s page, tells me yet again, that the fanbase has become misguided in howthey view Armin: he’s not a great add-on, he’s his own asset. He doesn’t giveother character an extra edge, he’s his own force to be reckoned with. All ofArmin biggest moments, greatest plans, most spectacular wins, were all productsof his own mind alone! Yet again, we’ve been fooled by the simplicity that theanime promotes: we assume that, as clever characters, Armin and Hanji are boundto be a dream team – because all smarties get along, right? To some extent, they do produce results together, but they aren’t very compatible outsidespitballing; Hanji spins on Armin’s input and leaves him in the dust becausethey prefer to run their own show, not even considering what part of it comesfrom Armin’s own skill to keep up. That’s their personality, and I’m not tryingto fault them for it, but why mention how well Armin works with Hanji, when thelatter doesn’t even recognize Armin’s skill for their own (as further shown inShiganshina, when Hanji did not so much as mention there being a dilemma worthconsidering – nor has expressed any sort of sentiment towards Armin’s contributionto the group ever since he was saved by Levi, if ever). Armin’s short period ofthrowing ball with Hanji is so insignificant to his person (and personality),that I feel like most anything else could be a better way of closing thatopening paragraph on him.
Anotherone: “Armin is rather short for his age,” the wiki page says. While shorterthan most of the other prominent teen boys of the story, Armin beingparticularly short is not something that has ever been given any significancein canon. I’m not saying he’s not short, but this wording makes it sound likeit’s a very prominent part of his appearance, which it isn’t. In your teens, you’re in constant growth, and hormones kicking in later than others’, isnatural. I looked up average height for 15 year old males (present time), andwhile he’s shorter than the average of 170 cm, he fit the average of a 14 yearold to the decimal. For one, it’s not unusual to be a late bloomer, and also, Ihave a theory that he might have been 14 and a half throughout the Trost arc: untilthere is explicit canon proof that Armin is the oldest of the trio (and bornthe year before Eren), he could very well have been turning 15 throughoutmost of the story so far; it’s never explicitly said that you had to be 12 to join bootcamp; as with many schools, perhaps you only needed to turn 12that year, meaning he could have been 11, going on 12 the year of enrollment. Thus,he could be fourteen and a half (and only half a year away from being theaverage height for his age) back in Trost. What’s more: humans have continuouslybecome taller on average. A hundred years ago, the average was considerablyshorter, as the average in the SNK universe could be. Regardless: while Armincould still be shorter than average, there’s absolutely a difference between“below average” and “rather short”. Again, this is an anime-worthygeneralization that skews his character to less keen consumers.
Now, on towhat I’m really here to talk about: “too timid to defend himself, Armin wouldoften need to rely on his friends (Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman) to protecthim from local bullies.” We all know this to be true, right? Why? Because Armintells us so, repeatedly, through his own narrative. But what he feeds us – asboth narrator of the story, and as a main character with frequent innermonologs – is his own skewed perception of his childhood. If we were asked todescribe the trio’s dynamic back in Shiganshina, most of us would be inclinedto say something along the lines of “Eren and Armin would talk about theoutside world while Mikasa listened, and whenever Armin got picked on, his twofriends would have to come to his rescue because he was too weak to defendhimself.” But this isn’t entirely true, as rather: it’s an image with weightwrongfully placed on Armin’s uselessness – a uselessness he’s put on himself, and that nobody but him actually experiences. Let’s look at what Armin says vs.what the manga shows us: Armin portrays himself as a hopeless coward faced with his bullies. But in thevery first encounter we see him have with them, he talks back and stands up forhimself like a badass. In Eren’s flashback in chapter 83, it’s confirmed thatArmin never runs away from those bullies, and probably stands his ground thesame way he did in the first chapter. While Eren and Mikasa would beat his bulliesfor him, that’s not the only way to win or be strong – as Eren would agree, deeply impacted by Armin’s resolve as he was. Armin talks about how he was tooweak to fight for himself, and he selects the images of him crying on theground to emphasis this – so we’re fooled to see the same thing he sees – but that’san image that’s stripped of the positive aspects of him, because it’s hisimages. What we don’t see from his perspective, but that we see in the reallife encounter, as well as Eren’s flashback, is a strong-willed boy with witsto make up for lack of muscle. Does it not take just as much strength to standyour ground (and not hit back), as it takes to wrestle someone to the ground?
Somethingthat further drives home the point that Armin shapes the past to fit hisnarrative, is how he gives us the impression that the fist fights the trio gotinto were all for the sake of him. But that actually isn’t the case! Back inchapter 45, we get a description of the same past, through the eyes of an outsider, and I think you’ll find that it’s rather different from Armin’s way ofportraying it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rightbefore these pages, Mikasa and Armin muse on how sad it is that Eren alwaysseemed to run away from them. That, paired with what Hannes is saying, itappears that the dynamic was thus: the trio had each other’s back and weren’tparticularly fond of others, because others weren’t frond of them. Armin wouldget picked on and helped out by his loyal friends, but Eren would also be arowdy kid with a lot of energy, who ran off and got himself into trouble thathis friends would try to help him out of. As Mikasa seemed to be left behind aswell, I’d wager she was more calm and wished Eren would be less antsy. See?This is a dynamic that actually feels more – dynamic! It’s not an entireexistence focused on aiding a lesser human (Armin). Armin had his own struggleswhere others had his back, but that was only one third of this trio’sstructure. Yet, his issues blinded him, because he was too ashamed to look pastthem. So, as narrator, that’s the only third he’s able to pass on to us. We, asviewers, have done him huge injustice by taking it as proof. We’ve missed thepoint: this is what Armin thinks, and he’s wrong! We aren’t shown his skewed interpretationof his childhood to learn about his past, it’s shown to us so that we can seehow warped his self-image is – to see what he’s struggling with! Ultimately, sothat we can understand what a major feat it is to have achieved everything he’sachieved! Armin even says it himself early on: it was all in his head! Yet, the anime – and by extension, big parts of the fandom (and the wiki) –simplifies his character. They choose to go with Armin’s own accounts, and sowe’re continuously fed this (third of a) narrative that is unhealthy andincorrect, by way of excluding context. Armin was helped out by his friends –like everyone with good friends is – and so was Eren! That isn’t a detrimentalsign of weakness to Armin’s character – not until Armin starts telling us itis. Having friend who are willing to fight for you, doesn’t equal you beingweak and a burden. Our mistake is that we didn’t fact check. Coming back to thewiki, I’m not overly excited about them presenting it the way Armin does, because it adheres to the simplification and “no questions asked” approach thatthe anime has. But again, I know this, so I steer clear of the site, personally.
As a sidenote: in Hannes’ memories, Armin has barged into the midst of the fight and isholding back Eren, so it doesn’t appear that he was afraid of going hands-on ina non-violent way – further proving that him not being violent for his owndefense, was at least to some degree a conscious choice instead of a weakback-down).
Other thanthat, yeah, the wiki gives a pretty standard, ok surface description, if youneed a quick gloss-over refresher on Armin Arlert.

(This theory is not mine, it’s a theory from different meta theorists,  I just made this because I too support the above theory, it is so coincidental as to connect to the idea of “Paths” and all of them are somewhat connected/met Zeke)

not the same anon but i also have a culture question. In regards to the poll discourse (lol), I'm not saying people can't post salt or that people reading said salt can't respond to it. my question is, is it really that serious? like really. it genuinely baffles me. it's the same thing with ship hate or sending mean anon messages. does this plague people so severely they have to pick fights with others on the internet over it? why does fandom have this effect on people? psychologically speaking.
I’ve learned a lot about fandom culture this week from the poll discourse. The most important being that yes, it is serious.  After having many conversations, some comforting some damning, I think I want to address this.
First things first, if you read this post, read it closely. Think about it. Do not have a knee jerk reaction to it. And for the love of all things good in this world, DO NOT SEND HATE TO THE OP.
It’s going to be a long post, so consider these conditions seriously. If you agree, by all means, read on…
I was baffled by the poll post as well. I’ve been doing a monthly poll since chapter 87. That’s a year and a half and more time and energy than I care to admit. In my mind it was something like the Reddit SnK Status Chart, something cheeky, fun, off color at times, but a monthly highlight and tradition that many fans enjoy.
Fact 1: I was successful in this. The vast majority have loved the poll and appreciate the time and effort that has gone into it. It’s a monthly highlight for many people. Fact 2: The bulk of poll respondents are from reddit and discord servers where I am a nobody.Fact 3: It has alienated and angered some people. The OP being one of those people but she is not alone.
I’m going to link to the OP post via a reblog that best expresses how I feel about it. It will save me from addressing each and every point of it.
Let me add that while the original post blasts the poll, I know that the poll is not the real issue in it. The OPs feelings are rooted in a character debate that has nothing to do with me or my poll.
Was the OP wrong to write this post and tag it as Eruri? A friend of mine likened it to wrapping herself in raw meat and throwing herself into a pack of wolves.
Did she have the right to do it? Sure.
Right or wrong, does it speak to a larger issue of fandom culture? Yes. And that’s what I want to talk about.
Let me get this over with as well. I was hurt. I was angry. Hell, I created a room in my discord server called “pet me feed me love me” because I selfishly and humanly needed some unconditional love and support from long time friends who were not a part of the eruri fandom.
Fact 1: I have gotten a huge amount of love and support over this from all corners of the fandom. I am blessed to have the friends I do.Fact 2: If you send me support I will read it and appreciate it but if it is anon I will probably not reply to it because I don’t want to feed this debate further.Fact 3:  If you send anon hate or any hate at all to the OP you are making her life worse, my life worse, and further cementing the fandom culture thing that this post exposed me to. It is this:
“Cool blogs” can influence a fandom and alienate people who do not find such bloggers cool.
This is the fandom culture phenomenon that I was made aware of through the poll discourse. @valisi-clark‘s reblog addresses the nuts and bolts of that concept and provides many good thoughts about it.
While not true of me, the fact remains that fandom gatekeepers, overlords and BNFs do exist and some use their power in a harmful way. That is a conversation for another day.
Fact 1: I am considered a big name fan in the snk fandom.Fact 2: This didn’t happen through coercion or voodoo. People like and respect me because I am friendly and reasonable and put a lot of time into the community. Fact 3: While I have not seen it, I have been told that the OP is getting hate because of my BNF status.
A friend of mine told me this recently:
“there’s a lot of emotional content in what you write–since you write in a friendly and casual way–and so there’s a sense of you being, well, fandom’s mom. or a figure a little bit like that.
This was part of a conversation about “parasocial relationships” which is not exactly related to this, but maybe speaks to the need of people who feel the need to defend me.
Defending me is humanly understandable. When my friends are unfairly targeted, I too see red. My first instinct is to eviscerate the person who has hurt someone I love. But whether op was right or wrong, whether such a reaction is human or not, sending hate over something like this is not ok. It only serves to further emphasize the perception that BNFs do exist, that challenging them is “brave”, and that having an opinion contrary to them can be isolating and make you the target of fandom bullies and minions of the BNF.
What I am personally struggling with at this moment of my fandom existence is how do I express my thoughts but not influence the conversation in such a way that it hurts people.
Fact 1: I can’t. Perception is as powerful as reality.Fact 2: I have tried so very hard for this exact scenario not to happen.Fact 3: It has happened.
I’ve been aware of my status and influence in the fandom since my summer hiatus. While not perfect, I’ve tried to use it for good. As one dear friend put it:
Yeah, you’re popular. You’re a BNF. But you’re a fucking person first, and the responsibilities of the former have made you neglect the latter….in my respectful opinion. and now I have pizza to eat so typing is hard
(side note: this need of mine to make people happy, while a nice quality in general, and how it relates to the time I spend of tumblr is something I should probably explore at a later date  👀 I’m gonna drop this post on Obsession and Fandom into the “things to think about” category as well.)
I love this fandom and wanted to do my part to make it a happier place. I feel like was largely successful in that but let me quote the vast wisdom of Armin Alert, because this is an snk blog after all.
Tumblr media
Meta writers can be mistaken as authorities. The reality is that some people take my posts as gospel truth. There exist people who believe, “well momtaku said this and she is respected so she must be correct. If I feel differently I must be wrong.” There also exist people who see things differently than me and feel isolated by it.
Fact 1: THIS IS TERRIFYING.Fact 2: I can’t stop it from happening.
So the decision is now how to live with it. Can I accept that my posts and my fandom contributions can serve (have served?) to hurt and alienate some people? I don’t know. It’s weighing heavy on my mind.
I’m stopping here. I don’t know if it’s because I’m tired of writing or if I’ve said what I want to say. I will address the existence of the poll at some point. I have two weeks to decide about that.
Thank you for reading this!

Spoiler alert even though im sure most people have seen the spoilers lmao. When eren is talking to falco, what do you think he means by not wanting to return to his family? do you think something happened between him and the sc? or do you think this is all a part of the act he is playing as "Mr. Kruger"?
I have two theories for his words there but, I really feel like it’s a combo of both.
DISCLAIMER: This is my personal opinion. In no way am I stating what I say here is canon or completely accurate. if you disagree with my opinion, that’s perfectly fine! Everyone has a different interpretation, but if you are going to send me messages trying to argue points of view with me or send me hate messages; please do us both a favor and just don’t even bother with it.
Theory number one is that Eren is referring to returning to the SC after learning the state in which the Eldians of Libero, specifically the Warriors, are living in and how they’re treated:
It’s not very different to how he grew up. Trapped behind walls and condemned simply for being born an Eldian. After asking himself the question of whether or not killing the enemy across the sea would free them all; seeing his not-so-easy answer first hand must be pretty heart wrenching and hard to swallow.
Not to mention, he’s obviously learned what being a Warrior means and what choosing to walk that path means considering he asked Falco about it outright. He seems to be aware of how becoming a Warrior works and of the basic processes behind their purpose. So, for the first time ever, Eren is seeing a hell different from his own. He’s seeing how RBA live(d), and the hell they experience(d).
Theory number two is that it’s all part of an elaborate act meant to test if Falco is reliable enough to be entrusted with the letter:
I’m 90% sure the letter he sent out is being mailed to the location of the Survey Corps soldiers who accompanied him to Marley. Most likely telling them where he is and what information he’s gathered. Such as Reiner’s whereabouts and that soon his titan power will be granted to a different warrior. How Eldians in the area are living, and so on.
I know a lot of people are thinking that maybe Eren is there without the knowledge of the Survey Corps, but in my opinion, logically speaking, I believe that is impossible. I do not see how he would have gotten from Paradis to Marley by himself. I also don’t think Eren would injure himself or sit on a bench in a hospital for no apparent reason other than the fact that he doesn’t want to return to the Survey Corps. He is there for a reason. An elaborate purpose most likely pertaining to a plan cooked up by Hanji or Armin.
I’ve also seen theories stating the letter is for Zeke which I will not rule out. But personally, I do not think that is the case. Mainly because that is super risky for a lot a reasons, but that is for a different meta entirely lol.
Now, the reason I believe his words are a combination of both is because I do believe what he says is part of an act meant to test Falco, but I also believe there is truth to what he is saying. He isn’t lying to Falco, so to speak. He’s simply not revealing the true meaning behind what he’s saying. Allow me to elaborate my thoughts here, and please keep in mind that this is just a theory.
Tumblr media
Eren calls this kid over directly to speak to him knowing that he is a Warrior candidate, and he immediately informs him that his condition is a lie and that he simply wishes to remain where he is when asked about his well-being. Then, after he reveals his “lie”, he states that going home like “like this” doesn’t feel right and then asks Falco if he will reveal him to the Hospital staff, and with no hesitation whatsoever, Falco states that he won’t.
Tumblr media
This right here lets Eren know that this kid trusts him. How? Because in revealing a supposed lie about himself to Falco, and showing “trust” in him with the fake secret, Falco returned the trust outright by choosing not to reveal it. This action here gave Eren enough information to know he could trust the delivery of the letter to Falco with little worry of it being intercepted or searched.
It’s a very convenient ploy tbh. Eren knew the only way to get the letter out safely was to mail it outside of the internment zone, and what better way than to use the very same kid who is so obviously kind-hearted. It was a risky move just to tell the kid the fake lie, but when Falco fed into it by showing trust it Eren, fact of the matter is that Eren took advantage of his trust.
This looks like basic manipulation and testing to me, but knowing Eren, he didn’t do that out of cruelty or malice. He just needed to mail the letter safely lol. But this leads me back to my first theory.

This is where things take a turn. It is very obvious to me that Eren has come to realize that those across the sea aren’t entirely the Walled Eldian’s enemy, and even those he once considered to deserve his mortal wrath have been living in their own version of Hell this entire time.
He tells Falco that he’s glad he won’t become a Warrior because he’s a kind child that he hopes lives a long life, but when Eren learns that Falco has someone that he wishes to protect from the Hell of being a Warrior, his tone changes quite a bit. Especially after hearing words he spouted once himself from the mouth of a child so very much like him.
Eren relates to this kid. A kid who could easily be the next inheritor of the very titan that helped destroy his home and killed so many people. It is here that Eren’s full understanding of the world comes to light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eren’s words, and his face right here tell me that he has fully grasped the situation at hand. He’s horrified at the realization that the people he despised so much, that he chased all the way across the sea are suffering just as severely as he is. That they simply just want their freedom, and are doing these god awful things in order to gain their freedom, just like he is.
What makes them differ is the fact that Eren acted of his own free will. He chose to fight and walk straight into Hell. The Eldian’s of Marley, though? They’re used as canon fodder for war with no choice. The didn’t choose Hell. It was forced on them. These people were forced to become the titan’s he hated so much and fought so hard to get beyond, and their only way out of the endless loop of mistreatment and abuse is to become the very Warriors he was so hellbent on destroying. All for the very same goal.
He’s also seeing first hand from Falco that these Warriors have people they wish to protect too. People that they want to keep out of the Hell that is their war and sacrifice their long life for.
Tumblr media
He’s seen that the Warriors are no better, and no worse than he is. No matter the location, Eldian’s all share the same fate, and they all suffer in one version of hell, or another. Eren’s speech here is simply his own observations and what he’s learned, and from what I can see; he’s learned a lot. Such as finding out that the path he carved in blood all for the sake of hope only led to another Hell in a different location.
Apparently though, he doesn’t regret learning what he’s learned. If anything, he seems satisfied to know the truth of things, no matter how bleak they may seem. Because the path in Hell he walks is the one he chose for himself, and even still… There may still be hope at the end of that path.
Tumblr media
So when Eren says that he doesn’t wish to return home. That “it doesn’t feel right to return like this”, I believe he’s telling the truth. He doesn’t wish to leave things in the state they’re in. If I had to guess, there’s more information he wishes to gather. More things he wants to learn, and he doesn’t want to go “home” until he’s done all he can to find the hope lighting the end of his dark path, and maybe even that of the young Warrior candidate sitting beside him.
I think it’s no mistake to say that his words were a part of an act, but I believe it was truly only part of an act. A single piece in order for him to take one step further and find more truth about the world around him with the help of his allies. All so he can finally be free, and maybe even free the rest sitting along side him in his new Hell along the way.

Snk: The Ending- Eren the tragic Hero
I have finally gathered my thoughts and want to share what I believe might be the ending to snk.
Now just because I believe this too be a possible ending does not mean I love it or wish for it, it is simply the ending that I think is presenting itself.
I never thought Eren would go this far. Its not at all like him, so I don’t believe that he is the endgame villain. This is snk after all. Everything, including the characters and stories are morally grey. There is no hero, and there is no villain. It would make no sense for Eren to be a fully fledged villain by the end of this story.
Eren’s plan and motivation
Eren is probably presenting himself as the greatest villain of all, akin to the actual devil. But he is not. Eren has been preparing this role for many chapters now, becoming the villain of the story. But its all an act. Eren does not want to kill the whole world. Doing that would aid no one.
There are plenty of good non-eldians out there, and many innocent people. Meanwhile on paradise there are also bad people, such as the interior government and Mikasa’s traffickers. Both sides have good and bad people. Killing off all other races won’t help. In the end we would still have civil wars amongst Eldians, like in the Uprising. Just having one race left in the world won’t solve anything.
Tumblr media
Eren isn’t one to kill innocents. He swore to kill the titans to protect humanity, but now is using titans to kill humanity. Or at least thats what he wants us to think. Even the attack in Marley now makes sense. Eren attacked Marley so he could be the big bad guy. He proved to be everything Willy said he was intentionally in front of an international audience.
If Eren really were destroying the world he would be no different from the first King. The first king wished for his titans to rule the earth forever and reign supreme above other nations. But we know that Eren hated the first kings ideology and vowed to end it. Still right now he is being exactly like the first king to act the role of a villain.
Eren is trying to be the main villain for the world so everyone can group up against him. He needs to be the common enemy to the world in order to unite the other nations. That is the only way for Eren to end the firsk kings world, a world where titans rule.
Tumblr media
Eren flat out says he is the bad guy, thats how hard he is trying to convince people.
But there is more. When Eren asks Reiner what his goal was, Reiner replies: “To save the world”
Tumblr media
And Eren understans Reiner, even stating a number if times that “we are the same”.
Tumblr media
Eren is the same in the way that his goal is to save the world, and because of that, just like Reiner he has to look like the bad guy. Just like Reiner was the bad guy trying to save the world, Eren now will be the bad guy to others in order to save the world. The attack on Liberio was the act that convinced the world that Eren was truly evil, but it was not enough. His friends had to believe it too. They all had to be distant enough from Eren to consider him a threat that needs to be stopped. And Eren succeded in doing so. The 104th had already been debating if it was best to pass on Eren’s titan. Eren just had to further alienate Mikasa and Armin.
I don’t think Eren will survive this. I don’t think he has any intention of surving. Eren broadcast his entire plan to the Eldians, which is not stragetic at all. Eren probably did it for that exact reason. He intends on being taken down and defeated. We know Grisha saw something horrible which made him question giving the power to Eren, but he did it anyway. Grisha only got a partial memory, probably from the rumbeling, but it is implied that another important transaction took place with Grisha and Eren that has not been shown yet. It may be the reason why Grisha gave Eren the serum after all. He must have seen a further memory, perhaps the memory of that ‘scenery’.
Eren has been alienating himself and been very cruel to his friends. This will make it easier for them to take him down. I think Armin or Mikasa might have to be the one to take Eren down. During the serumbowl Eren states that Armin will be the one to save the world.
Tumblr media
The plan in Action
Everyone, both Marleyan and Eldian will unite to take Eren down together, but it will probably be Armin that delivers the killing blow. It is then that the common enemy to the world has been destroyed.
Further, since Eren freed Ymir, the last titan powers would die with him. Currently Eren is using her strengh, and if he dies the power of the titans will die with him. There will be no more Ymir building titan bodies out of sand ever again. No Eldian would ever be able to turn into a titan again, including the current shifters. That way Eldians will pose no more threat to the rest of the world. Further Eren will have also eliminated the wall titans. The wall titans had to be freed in order to remove them, hence no more dormant wall titans that could eventually break free or be used in future. Eren is making sure that he takes all titans away, including the wall titans.
Would this allow paradise peace? No, not at all. Other nations might fear a repeat of this event and continue pursuing the death of all paradisians. Further other nations won’t be that quick to forgive and move on, even if Eldians can no longer turn into titans. Eren knew this. Dying a villain will not be enough to bring the world together. Eren needs the right people in place.
This is why Eren tests Armin’s bond with the warriors. Eren has noticed that Armin has grown closer to the warriors, and more sympathetic towards them. We see this with Armins talks to Annie and Bertholdt. Armin will be able to reason with the Eldians on the main continent.
Eren’s second person of focus is Reiner. The final exhibition placed a lot of emphasis on Reiner so his final role will be important. Reiner will be the new Helos.
Tumblr media
But Helos was never real. Helos is not a hero at all. Helos is just a story. None of it was true. But despite this Marley keeps on searching for their new Helos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When talking about Helos the characterthat is focused on is Reiner. It is implied that Reiner will serve as the next Helos.
Just like the original Helos, Reiner too will just be an empty shell, and not a real Hero. Now why would Reiner serve as Helos when it was Armin that killed Eren? It is simple. No one will be willing to accept a Paradisian as their Helos. Armin will probably seek out Reiner for this role.
While no paradisian will be accepted, we know that there are advocates for mainland eldians. People will be more accepting of Reiner and more willing to listen to him. Perhaps Reiner’s half Marleyan blood will also play into this, which could contribute to a better understanding between Marleyan’s and Eldians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this case Reiner would serve as Helos, while Armin serves in a similar fashion to the Tyburs in Willy’s story. Reiner and Armin will join hands and be credited with Eren’s destruction. Because Reiner is presented as Helos people will listen. And it will be his ties to Paradise and Armin that will allow for the other nations to listen to Paradise. This way peace with Paradise will be possible.
Mikasa will represent the Asian-Paradisian side, Armin will present the Eldian- Paradisian view, while Reiner represents the Eldian-mainland view, and together they paint a complete picture and opportunity for nations to interact.
Of course this will not stop all wars. There will be more wars, and tough times, but Paradise will no longer be the centre of hate. Eldians will be able to live freely and build themselves up again. They will be free from persecution and hate for a while.
The only person who might know of Eren’s true goal is Historia. It may be why we saw her so upset in that memory shard. Perhaps it will be Historia who tells the others of Eren’s true goal after he has passed. Or perhaps Armin inherits Eren’s memories as he kills him. Either way I do think the main cast will realise that Eren was in fact not a villain, but the most tragic hero of all. A hero who took the burden of the world upon his shoulders and became the common enemy in order to unite the world, and grant his friends and people freedom.

We know that Isayama drew that panel of Armin and Eren holding each other’s hands in chapter 105 as a way to show Armin’s and Eren’s differences. Mainly through the background. Armin's side was light and Eren's was dark:
Tumblr media
Alot of readers already came to the conclusion that it's because Armin has hope that Paradis might be able to get along with the other nations while Eren believes that the world will never stop seeing them as monsters.
Something similar happened in chapter 118. Notice how their hands were drawn twice. The second time in a way that makes the reader focus on their hands:
Tumblr media
So this time, Armin holds the hand of Onyankopon. Someone who's from one of those nations and believes firmly that Paradis is worth fighting for it's future even though he grew up outside Paradis, where he easily could have adapted the idea that Paradis is solely an island of demons. It's a nice little detail that I believe Isayama didn't put there without a purpose.
