Episode 13: Lifted Spirits

It was School Spirit Day, and Paul and Danica headed to the Quad to see what was happening.

They played a little ping pong then separated to mingle with the other students.

Paul was excited to see Jamie there. He regretted not making more of an effort to talk her up at the Spooky Day party, but then, it's hard to be seductive when you're in a silly costume, facepaint and all.

He asked her how her day had been. "I slept in a bit, then got brunch with Thornton and Morgana," she replied.

"Don't take this the wrong way," Paul began hesitantly. "But don't you think Thornton can be a little--"

"Arrogant? Pretentious? Egotistical?" Jamie interrupted.

"Well, I wasn't going to say it like that," Paul protested.

"Look, I get it," Jamie sighed. "He does come off that way sometimes, but he just wants to be successful so he can give Morgana everything she wants. It's kind of sweet if you think about it."

It was kind of sweet, or it was at least nice that Jamie could see it like that. Paul and Jamie broke up the tense conversation with a game of beer pong, which Jamie was almost outlandishly bad at.

"I guess it's just not my night," she said as she grabbed her second cup of beer off the table. Paul didn't want her to end up with alcohol poisoning, so he made an excuse to end the game early.

When they got back to the dorms, Paul had a couple of beers to even the score. After some time passed, the flirtation between him and Jamie started amping up. "So you're from Tartosa?" she inquired.

"Yes, born and raised." Paul replied.

"Do you speak Tartosan?" she asked, to which Paul replied in the affirmative. "Can you speak it right now?" She looked at him expectantly. He was caught a little off guard, so he murmured with all of the seductiveness he could muster what translated to "Can I get that with the sauce on the side?"

He might has well have uttered the sexiest sentence in the world given Jamie's reaction. "I'm getting a little cold out here," she said, placing a hand on his knee. "I'm going to my room if you want to come."

Paul walked into the building, buzzing with not only alcohol but excitement for what was about to happen.
