How do you get work assignments done while traveling??? On a train, no less! You don't need to actually answer if you don't want to, this is more an expression of awe. Alternative ask: What is something else that you are proud of yourself for doing recently?

LOL this is an extremely fair question. i'm not very good at doing personal creative work on a train, if i tell myself "i'll do creative writing on the train :)" (or plane, or whatever) i will inevitably find myself listening to music and staring out the window. however i think the fact that i'm kind of slaying work today has to do with the fact that a) i work just about ANYWHERE better than in my own apartment, where i live, b) lately the worst harm to my work has been done by 'getting tired and laying down', a hobby that is so enchanting that it can go on for hours and one which is not available to me on the train, and c) i'm just kind of fucking insane about traveling, especially the kind of traveling where i'm not the one doing the driving. the more steps the travel takes the more insane and kind of problematically energetic i get. i may have "not gotten very much sleep" but what i do have is the knowledge that i am taking the bus then the metro then the train to see a friend, and that fills me with a kind of weird intense motivation that i don't often experience in day to day situations

...it also helps that the stupid amtrak chairtable is more ergonomic than the dining table i have to work on at home or the tables in either of my local walkable coffee shops. which is more of an indictment of the dining table/coffee shops than praise of amtrak chairtables, but is worth noting as a factor nonetheless.

Started playing Baldur's Gate 3 while I was visiting my brother, now I'm obsessed with it and need to figure out how I can play it at home, too. I have an old 2012 desktop iMac I got for free on a Buy Nothing Facebook group, but I don't know if it could actually handle the game. My guess is probably not. My partner does have a PS5 and is away a lot on tour so I may see if I can play his.

But. I wanted to share my first character creations! This is Alida Arrowheart, a nonbinary dwarf ranger who can talk to animals, and their half-orc guardian, who is like a hot, hairy Shrek. I played through just to the point where we fought off the goblins for the first time and poked around a bit in the Grove. I didn't get around to romancing anyone yet but I think Alida would have romanced Shadowheart or Wyll.

(Don't mind the weird screen lines, I couldn't easily screenshot on my brother's computer so I snapped a pic on my phone. Boomer behavior!)

For now I've been watching some playthroughs on YouTube to tide me over til I can play myself. I'll probably make a new character when I do, I really want to try out the Dark Urge storyline... and also romance Astarion in a "two wounded, morally-gray people finding an unexpectedly tender love in one another" kinda way. I've read way too much fanfiction already, omg. And I hardly ever read fanfiction.

question for any work that comes to mind. how do you like to connect one scene to the next? For example in Aivide the Prequel the tag "graphic depictions of weather" comes to mind. Describing weather, travel, the ebb and flow of exams etc. are some of the standout ways you've chosen to do this in the past. What do you enjoy (or not enjoy) about writing these connecting scenes?

From my comparatively limited longform fiction output, 'graphic depictions of weather' is definitely not Aivide exclusive. It's not universal either – obviously in my vrisrezi meteorfic I could not talk about the weather or time of day, though I sure did try to supplement that gap with dream bubbles and such. Conversely my other origfic project takes place in a setting with much more nature so attention to things like trees, harvest and hunting seasons, and busy times in the narrator's workplace receive a lot of attention. Weather and time of day are probably the most universal things I try to pay attention to as I move a character through time, with everything else dependent on a character's actual circumstances.

That was kind of repetitive but in all fairness you answered the 'how do I like to do it' question very well on your own. (And I appreciate it, i looove being seen.) I think I am a very time- and season- aware person – for all that my homestuck aspect is seer of space, I will say shit like "I remember when you made this cake in the summer of 2014, it was really good." Keeping a diary helps with that, I think. So in one of those sneaky self-insert moves my narrators tend to be concerned with time and its passage, and I tend to prioritize remembering that even in fairly static/non-'plot important' times in a conscious life, things still change. Even if it's just the leaves or the frequency of a blizzard or the time the sun sets.
