so my hope was to have more time and energy for free work and fanart indulgence over the Sommer but it was blatantly false. So very quick and rough paintings before going to bed is all I manage for now.

This one turned about a man, his friends and his swords, although sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between the latter two.

Ambient lighting tests with Chara!

One thing i have to practice as a budding illustrator is lighting and putting characters in different environments where the lighting can change. So I quickly did this exercise with Chara from Undertale as a base!

Admittedly i had a lot of fun with these and kind of want to do more exercises like this, maybe try to fit characters into real photos and what not, or master studies of photos!

Blob Sketches: A fun exercise where you start with blobs and draw stuff based on them.

Apparently I saw people with big noses... and then I thought: What if I somehow make all of these into people?

(And one pig. I rewatched Porco Rosso recently & it's as good as I remember it being, so can you blame me for diverging a little from my theme? 😆)

I have to share this low resolution, but I thought it was fun to share some media tests I did for class. They are postcard size, and each used a different technique to paint them, which altered the final result. My usual method when working analogue these days is to color fist, and then ink afterwards, and I used to ink first then color, like in Option 2. But out of these, I think Option 3 was my favorite. I normally do not use watercolor pencil but the amount of control I had was a delight! I know on option 1 it ended up a bit muddy because the paper I was using was cheap and the sizing probably was breaking down. I may turn the watercolor pencil version into a print sometime!

I wanted to try out a different approach to the Cheshire Cat design from Alice in Wonderland, and greatly enjoyed using the Qor High Chroma watercolors for him.
