it's actually, genuinely, honestly hilarious that in a fandom where popular ships include characters who are biologically related, characters with a 10+ year age gap who met when one was a teenager or even a child, and characters who have tried to kill each other, people hate on a friends-to-lovers ship with a <2 year age gap where the characters have a deep emotional bond and plenty of romantic subtext, because "they're siblings". my brother in the force they are literally not.

alright you’ve been extremely extremely kind and indulgent to me about my oc and i cannot possibly thank you enough <333333 so MY turn now to ask YOU about YOURS. please tell me about maglor’s distant granddaughter who is also your bbeg?? .w. or about the chatty hobbits i would very VERY much love to hear about both!!!
~ @nelyoslegalteam, reporting from main <3
(long post, sorry for the random people stumbling upon this lol)
so I'm the dm for the chatty hobbits campaign and essentially it's set in a beleriand-adjacent continent, but with a few extra races and stuff. of the founders of the original settlements, the king of elende (the elf kingdom) is Gil-galad's (invented for the campaign) twin brother Finellach/Finwain. originally he was inspired by the fact that gil galad has a ton of names but only uses ereinion/gil, so I just invented a new character and gave him half the names. I headcanon gil galad as maglor's son, so finwain is in universe maglor's son (left at the havens with gil bc his wife divorced him for kinslaying and his kingdom, being next door neighbors with morgoth, is far too dangerous for small children).
Anyways, his descendant Elinyel (also known as aramire or elinnor) is the current queen of Elende! she's an evil fire-themed bard who is extremely feanorian in all the worst ways - her actual kingdom prospered under her reign, but she just does not care about everyone else as long as she's protecting her people. There were some tensions with one of the major kingdoms to the north (conflict over unclaimed territory between the kingdoms and some tariff stuff), so instead of risking the other kingdom starting a war and hurting her people, she just preemptively invaded it and started burned all the border territories to the ground.
her actual coronation was pretty weird- so she's the second child, but her older sister was born in wartime and there's a general belief in elende that children of peacetime make better rulers, so Elinyel was chosen as her family's heir. her grandfather (the crown prince of his generation) died defending Elende in one of the major wars, but his younger brother and two young kids survived. there's a whole feud between their houses because the brother chose to retain the kingship even after the kids were old enough to take the throne. anyways, two generations later Elinyel killed her cousin Arendil (the previous king of Elende) over a dispute about the legitimacy of his house (and what she believed to be a dishonoring of her grandparents' sacrifice) and took the throne.
obviously she has many Issues. arendil also has two surviving kids who are now essentially trying to stop her from murdering all their neighbors in proactive defense of her people.
however, when she first ascended she recruited her friend group as her elite guard/vassals of the kingdom. (aka the other bosses in the storyline). so it escalated to a war between her forces and the children of arendil, which ultimately culminated in her beloved sister being killed by one of arendil's children. this in turn led to her having basically a massive mental breakdown and feeling like she failed to protect her loved ones (exacerbated by some of her other friends being killed in battles she led). a normal person might decide this is was kind of her fault for starting a war and putting her friends in charge of the army. instead she decided she needed to destroy everyone who could ever potentially pose a threat. which is, in her eyes, literally everyone on the continent (except for her kingdom, of course).
so now she is at war with absolutely everyone of all factions! She is also somehow winning by virtue of Song almost on the level of maglor himself, and ten (now six) also incredibly powerful friends. Anyways, she has decided that the best way to wipe out the continent (except her kingdom) and start fresh is to literally find an ancient lost stone that can break the Doors of Night, summon Morgoth himself, and start the Dagorath. obviously this will Not go well for anyone at all if she succeeds, but she is on a full-on rampage and genuinely believes she (plus friends) can protect her kingdom from Morgoth's army while he wipes out everyone else.
Here's some old art of her btw!
And some slightly more recent unfinished art of her and the Evil Friend Group from when they were younger:
and here's (L-R) her cousin who is the 3rd boss, Elinyel, and her sister from before the war!

here to once again complain about ft and just the. existence of irene & being the mother of erza, which subsequently didn't matter at all after that arc ended. im scratching my head still at the prospect of giving erza an on-page mother, especially so late in the story with no build up outside the arc. idk if im making this up but i remember reading that it wasn't intentional at first, but irene ended up looking so much like erza that it was implemented in the story. i think thats dumb and stupid and boring and dumb!! fair warning that i barely acknowledge irene and erza's familial relation, any development is going be heavily canon-divergent & full of my own tweaks in regards to irene and her story..

Was going through my posts and I saw that one post you did about like, Joe, (corrupted) Cub, and e!false being a Spontaneous Villain Trio. Do you have any further thoughts on it? I want to spin this idea around in my head but I'm not quite sure what you had ideas for (if any beyond just that idea)
so in my head what happens is... so it starts out relatively close to canon in that joe leaves hermitopia, only we're taking this slightly more seriously. so he packs up and leaves and regrets it once he realizes he Really Has Nowhere To Go but he's banned by the time he considers going back, a thing that he has some amount of resentment for. (oh boy, i'm sure that won't come back to bite anyone later!) he hands out his resume to a bunch of people and false accepts the resume, and pays him with a place to live.
unlike in canon we're assuming, however, that everyone is in empires much longer and the timeframes here are much longer, and that way everyone has more time to like. bond. and spiral.
anyway so unlike in canon e!false decides she likes what joe has done for her and hires him somewhat more full-time. his job is to try and note down what happens when she doesn't remember and any information about the other false who is spying on her. once joe and e!false work out that h!false is a different person entirely and e!false realizes she's one of the hermits, joe is told to spy on the hermits in general - although he's still banned so he has some trouble doing this.
due to combination "e!false is kind of a wet cat and joe feels bad", "e!false can trust joe more than some people because she's both paying him and he has literally nowhere else to go so betraying her would end very badly for him", and "neither of them really have other people at the moment" the two of them end up bonding very closely. which means that once joe starts to work out the Murders e!false is doing he just kind of... rationalizes them. also once people start to realize the joke of the banning thing has maybe gone too far (like scar or probably cleo idk depends on what i'm feeling when i write this) joe is Not Enthusiastic At All and decides that no, screw those guys, he's actually a citizen of cogsmede. they didn't ban him in cogsmede. he even got to decorate his own apartment.
(and like, joe. the murders. probably even including joe's own periodic murder. but remember our timeframes are longer here.)
anyway so joe is spying on the hermits and now ACTUALLY the traitor he was accused of being and e!false is doing e!false things, right, but how does cub come into this? well he comes into it by getting possessed, obviously, but also by the fact that he runs into joe, attempting to clean up all the sculk catalysts, and has also been kicked out for reason of "he keeps on trying to possess everyone and that's a problem". he and joe and also e!false as a result of "joe hangs around e!false a LOT in this au" all start running into each other more often and joe notices cub like... isn't doing great.
he also notices the start of the build-up of hermitopia's more... terrifying elements... and e!false's nervousness, and the fact that even the other emperors are strangely disconnected from e!false, like she doesn't have any allies. and cub doesn't have any allies either. and since joe is pretty good friends with cub and honestly got over the whole trash can thing basically immediately the reason he holds so much of a grudge is "kicked out in a strange world for being discontent", and joe does miss the other hermits, and also because e!false could USE someone who is as clearly scary to other people as cub is, they strike up a deal with each other. cub can hang around as long as he doesn't start sculking up specifically the places in cogsmede that joe has cleared out and is willing to defend them, and joe and false will defend him back.
which means cub starts working on joe and false who ALREADY AREN'T DOING GREAT to get them on-board with his sculk nonsense and it mostly doesn't work but they DO get pretty apathetic towards it happening to literally any of them that are not specifically them, right, which to most other people, given that they're also directly harboring cub, is basically the same as doing it themselves.
and THAT'S ABOUT AS FAR AS THAT AU HAS GOTTEN IN MY HEAD i got stuck on "i need to have a better idea of what the false things the falses are doing are" in order to properly flesh out the false side of this au but like. that's the concept in my head.
...this got really long.
i hope you like it!

some people love to pit black sails and ofmd against each other for a weird and unfounded battle over pirate show supremacy. but apart from the tonal differences and totally different perspectives of their main themes, and the fact that it doesn’t diminish either shows to recognise the other, it seems to me that in ofmd there are numerous quotes and appreciative nods to black sails in both dramaturgy and minor details (despite their differing genres) that make clear that it’s not the intention to be the “better queer pirate show” that some fans seem to read from it as an act of insolence but a recognition of the great work that at least in some way paved the road for their show. ofmd is in itself a transformative work both in it being in a way like fan fiction and its consistent commitment to giving tropes of incredibly popular genres of fiction (both the adventure/pirate story and the rom com - genres that come with a whole force of normative power) a different spin and a new reading.

Just wrote a WOW (witnessing outstanding work) for myself lol
I told myself that I’m proud of me for not crying at every inconvenience.
Let’s see who notices first and who thinks it’s funny and who thinks otherwise.
I personally think it’s funny because I do outstanding work that no one seems to acknowledge.

The more I think about it the more I really, really hate that ending for Ted. Most of the episode I loved but Jesus. Ted, to our knowledge, has no active support structures in Kansas. In one foul swoop he loses his best friend, his therapist, his emotional support bros, his gossip pals, and the group of men who have helped inspire him to keep going over the past three years. Yes he gets Henry back and that's wonderful but like. He has no one else? And a kid cannot be an emotional outlet for your baggage.
Michelle can't be his support. Even if they develop feelings for each other romantically again, we've seen she's objectively bad at recognizing when Ted needs support. (I personally dont trust her after the Dr. Jacob shit but to each their own). When his panic attacks were revealed she just figured he was laughing it off with no issue based on one text conversation. She didn't even call. I understand that man is no longer your husband but aren't you still friends? Shouldn't you care about WHY he was having panic attacks?
So yes, Ted goes back to support his kid. And I'm sure he'll do all he can for Henry. He's a good dad. However, I genuinely fear for the state of Ted's mental health now that he's back in Kansas. Your kid cannot be your only friend. It just feels like a more bitter than sweet ending. Because while the show may not have been all about Ted, his story MATTERED. His influence was not the sole story. His personal growth, overcoming his panic attacks and recognizing his limitations better, that was the central story of the show. This ending just feels insufficient.
I'd almost say unfinished but the writers won't even confirm if this is the actual show ending or not.

the thing about the Anastasia stage musical is that like…….. as a story it’s a real improvement on the original film. way better construction, stronger characterisation etc etc etc. but…. the same choices that make it technically a better narrative also have really weird knock-on effects on the message.
Replacing rasputin with a communist party officer who’s father was one of the ones who executed the romanov family??? UGH that’s so good that’s so juicy the dynamic between the villain and Anya is SO much more interesting than in the original film. But it leads to scenes like Still/The Neva Flows where it’s like.
“The Romanov’s were given everything and gave back nothing until the russian people rose up and destroyed them!”
*girlboss voice* “All but one. I am my fathers daughter”.
And i’m just… ok but he’s right though. He’s absolutely correct there. Factually he is accurate. But she’s the protagonist and he’s the antagonist so the framing is that she’s the one we should be rooting for here. There’s no point where Anya is like “wow my experiences growing up poor and destitute and orphaned have made me morally uncomfortable with the idea of claiming my place as the daughter of the tsar and that’s going to influence my decisions and actions”. She’s just like. Oh cool i get to be a princess??? neato.
