“A Rivalry for the Ages”
*RalphxFem!reader*
Series Summary : You have know The Penbury twins since you were in nappys. As the years went by You and Victoria grew close ,but as for you an Ralph, you only grew to resent each other. Being the hardheaded people you are you willing to let your rivalry get in the way of your newfound feeling for each other.
*Authors note: hi! Very 1st fic ever. I wanted to write a fix for Ralph that I hadn’t seen yet. A enemies go lovers! I love to think of him as a big feisty and the ideas just made me so happy. Also btw I wrote this at 12-2 am in my phones notes I am also like criminally dyslexic so please forgive me for any spelling errors. And please be free to give me helpful and constructive feedback. I would really appreciate it. Also know this is a slow burn.* a/n: 25/9/22 currently working on part 2 rn. Almost done but been busy with my son. If you want to be tagged just let me know ❤️
Tw: swearing, slight misogyny but come on it the 1920’s it’s expected, physically touch, and just pure Angst, and mention of death!
Chapter 1: Welcome home darling
Chapter summary : after a year long trip to the states you are more then eager to be back in the arms of you beloved best friend Victoria but that also means you had to see her brother an your sworn rival as well.
Looking out the back window of your brand new automobile you couldn’t wait to see your closest friend in the whole world, well more like platonic soulmate if you were being honest, and tell her all about your trip to the states. The only downside would be having to see the pain in your ass that was her twin brother, Ralph Penbury, even the thought of him make your blood boil with anger and detest.
The stupid way he would just lull around the manor like he owned the place, well technically speaking he did by the stupid fact of being born a male, and the way he would play that god forsaken ukulele of his day in an day out.
He was your sworn enemy since childhood for one reason an one reason only, A decision that was made for you not long after your second Birthday. The thought of it made you sick to your stomach as you get lost in it, so lost in fact you hadn’t even realized you had come to a stop till your chauffeur was pulling open your door startling you in the process
“Sorry my lady. It wasn’t my intention to scare you.”
You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding once you realized what was happening.
“It’s okay Albert, it’s not your fault that I was day dreaming” you said you with a small smile earning a chuckle from Him. He offered you his hand to help you, which you graciously took with a thank you.
As you existed the automobile you were greeted with the sweet sound of your Victoria singing your name and running full force towards you with open arms, of course you follow in her footsteps, and soon you are both engulfing each other in a bone crushing hug and squealing each others names. After what felt like seconds but was truthful more like 5 minutes, you reluctantly release each other’s opting to hold hands instead
“my darling Persephone ,How I have missed you so! The photographs and letters you sent have done you no justice.” Victoria says in one quick breath as if she couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“My beloved Aphrodite, how I have missed your presence! My memory seems to have failed me because you are even more beautiful then it gave you credit for!”
The comments earned a string of giggles from you both as you embraced again.
Once you both were ready you locked arms an turned towards the house to see her Father an ,begrudgingly to you, her brother.
You walked up the steps leading to the town house with a big smile plastered on your face As Mister Penbury pulled you in a tight bear hug with a kiss on the cheek which you returned.
“Ahh the all mighty Zeus, how I have missed these hugs”
“(Y/N) you have grown into quite the women this last year. I hope America was good to you?”
“It was more then good…it was simply…spectacular, but nothing could hold a candle to great England.”
“That’s what I like to hear love” he said with a small pat to your cheek.
And with one last squeeze he you let go.
Turing you were now face to face with the one person you couldn’t stand. The look on Ralph’s face matched the one you had gave the moment you layed eyes on him. Nose scrunched up ,lips pursed into a pout of disgusted an eyebrows pulled together in a scowl.
“Hades.” Was all you could muster up in the most hate filled voice ever.
Ralph looked you up an down with a roll of his eyes.
“(y/n) how many times do I have to tell you call me by my name, and how I do hate that you an my sister still insists to call me that ridicules nickname.”
Ah the nicknames, how you did love them so. A little backstory, when you and Victoria were younger you had both decided to give everyone a nickname after you read a book of Greek mythology. The story’s had intrigued you both as children and had become the normal for anyone who knew you personal. The fact that Ralph hated his only made it that much sweeter.
With a smirk you an Ralph got into one of your famous ‘who will backdown first’ stare downs. It was something that had started at your 16th birthday party. The year you has Celebrated becoming a Women because now you could officially entire Society, Something you despised with a passion but did because of your dear Victoria.
“Oh good heavens. I can’t do this anymore. Move Hades! “ Victoria practically yelled while shoving Poor Ralph out the way much to his Protest Earning a maniacal laugh from you as she pulled you in by your arm.
Once settled in the amazing townhouse that the Penbury twins resided in, you all met in the Drawing room for a late afternoon tea ,via Victorias doing much to her twin brother protest.
As you sipped on that cup of tea you couldn’t help but close your eyes let a small sound of delight and relief escape you as you let the taste and smell of the tea consume you.
You blushed as you realized what you had done, feeling slight embarrassed as you looked around as saw all eyes on you.
“The tea that good dear?” Mister Penbury laughed shaking his head sipping his cup.
You laughed setting your cup down “my apologies, truly. As much as I enjoyed America and all the cuisine they had to offer it seems they just couldn’t get a simple cup of English tea right. So this is a simple pleasure I’ve been looking forward too for sometime”
Victoria smiles and coos at that. She always told you how much she appreciate your joys for the little things In life that other took for granted so often, even her. You always brought her down to earth when you were around And with her larger then life personality it was nice to have that around.
As tea continue and you talked about your time in America, Ralph hadn’t said a single thing, not that you cared to hear what he had to say, but you could tell his father was starting to get frustrated with the lack of communication from his Only son. With a clearing of his throat mister Penbury got Ralph’s attention, earning a sigh of reluctance from the young man before he finally joined the conversation.
“So (y/n) why is it you went to America again? I seem to have forgotten. All the days of peace and quiet must of cleared my head of whatever it was you last squaked out before you left”
You looked at him and rolled your eyes. The anger practically radiating off you towards him.
“Well Hades scene you seem to have forgotten, which isn’t much of a surprise seeing as you have the IQ of a chimpanzee, wait no that’s a insult to all chimps out there and i simply can’t do that to them, but Anyways to answer your question I went to finish my studies and live with my great aunt Hellen while I help get her finances in order.”
Ralph hated that he had to bit his own tongue an fake some interest in your explication and ignor the insult to his intelligence.
This made you happy to see an earned a small snickers from you.
To anyone not familiar with your whole situation with the Younger of the twins it would of been awkward an uncomfortable with the tension Ralph and you gave off when simply talking. they simply didn’t understand the backstory that has formed this tension over the years.
For you see As the only child of your late mother and father you were to be married off to a wealth man only for him inherit what was rightfully yours by blood. Your father has decided that his best friend an business partners son would be the best choice for a husband. You were a measly two years old when you were promised to a four year old Ralph.
The thought was a joy when you were young an naive and knowing you were growing up with your future husband and would eventually die with his too made your stomach flutter with butterflies ,it was quite poetic when you thought about it. But as you grew older an the reality was finally revealed at the ripe age of 8 that he would inherited your fortune all because of the fact that you were a female and he was a male, Well it made you fill with rage an disgusting for the boy you had thought you loved.
Because of this you tried your hardest to be better then him in all things academically and leisurely just to prove you were just as worthy as him and all the things he was give simply due to the fact that he has a penis.
It had driven a wedge in between you two over the years as you constantly outdid him in everything. He was versed in literature so you became and expert , he has a great ear for music but you have a better one, he enjoyed math well guess what you excellent in it. You could tell it made him resent you for making him seem less then to his father, who was already disappointed in the man his son had become over years but it wasn’t your problem that you were simply better. You couldn’t help it and to add insult to injury you were also more physically inclined as well. Being a pro in hunting not just with a gun but also a bow, being a award winning equestrian, and lastly always being able to beat him in an arm wrestling match. Now it may not seem like much but to make him lose to a female at a simple arm wrestling match was your biggest conquest an what had really cemented Ralph’s hatred for you after you had beat him at his 14th birthday in front of all his friends an Victorias as well at only the age of 12, Not even a lady yet still just a child.
you were pulled out from your thoughts of being a better human by mister Penbury informing you of his departure of the townhouse to go away for business. You frowned and felt you stomach ack a little at the news
“Aww you aren’t staying for the party? I was so hoping to steal a dance with my favorite dance partner.”
Mister Penbury could see the pain in your eyes leaning down to give you a small kiss on the crown of your head as he stood up
“We’ll as much I would love to stay an take you up on that offer my love I have business to attend too. I do hope you enjoy the party it’s costing me a pretty penny.” He said eyeing Victoria as he said it. The thought made you laugh, knowing as much as he hated to spend all that money on a simple party he just couldn’t say no to his dear daughter especially when said party was for you ,see you were also his daughter, well god daughter but still he treated you like one. Always buying you gifts an having you over at his house all the time spending to time with the twins. And after the death of your father not even a year after losing your mother he really took his roll of being your father figure seriously. It meant a lot to you for you always though of him as a second father growing up. So as much as it pained you see him leave after such a long time apart you know you had to let him go tend to the business that both he and your father worked so hard to grow into what it was now. So with a long strong hug an one last kiss goodbye he was gone, and in almost an instant Victoria was pulling you toward her bed room so she could finally prod you for the more devious details of you year abroad as you both got ready for the party that was to take place that night. Giggle and laughter all the way up the stairs you couldn’t help but see Ralph in the corner of your eyes with what almost looked like a happy smile on his face looking at… you?

immensely enjoying the Victoria content btw
Thank you :') I feel like so many blogs that were invested in the show and making gifsets and art for it have just. disappeared since the show ended.
(Tbh the show is making me want to read more about the real Victoria and Albert, and making me want to rewatch The Young Victoria, since that covers the same period in time as series 1.)

Hi! Can I have a story on what Charlotte you’re talking about in the ask you just posted and why she deserves to be portrayed better? (Honestly all characters should be portrayed better tbh)
Hi! You probably already know about her, but I was talking about the wife of Archduke Maximilian (Emperor Franz Josef's younger brother) Charlotte of Belgium, better known as Empress Carlota of Mexico. She was the only daughter of King Leopold I of Belgium and his second wife Louise of Orleans (and therefore she was also a first cousin of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert).
Charlotte is often blamed of convincing her husband to accept the crown of Mexico despite being a very dangerous enterprise only because she wanted to be empress. She tends to be portrayed as an ambitious woman that only cared for power and single handedly kept her husband in Mexico when they'd lost all support. While her role in the adventure can't be denied (she was very involved from the beginning until the end), making her the sole responsible is just not truth: Max wanted it as much as her.
Charlotte also didn't got along with her sister-in-law Empress Elisabeth (I talked a bit about this here), so there's a chance that if she appears in season 2 of The Empress she will be portrayed in a negative light or even as an antagonist, specially since Max is in love with Elisabeth in this series (I can almost SEE the petty fights and jealous tantrums uhggg). Of course we might all be wrong and maybe Netflix actually give us an interesting and nuanced portrayal of her (or maybe she won't even appear and we are all worrying for nothing); but personally I do not trust them after the damage I took from season 1 lol

(2nd fic of my series of short fics)
This time a vicbourne one FINALLY! 👑🎩
I'm thinking about making this a chapter 1 of a 2 chapters fic. The 2nd chapter will definitely be nsfw. It will be the first time that I write nsfw stuff so I'm pretty much terrified.
Without further ado, here's MY FIRST EVER VICBOURNE FIC.
One last time...before sunrise.
By colemansdimple
CHAPTER 1 (?)
Queen Victoria's journal, 30th November 1848,
It has come to my knowledge that my dear friend
Five days ago I've received news that my former prime minister
Today I've finally gathered strength to write again
He is gone.
V.R.
Seconds, minutes, hours, days. They passed her by but she registered nothing. She eats little and barely opens her mouth to speak. Her husband pretends like he doesn't know the reason why she's like this and his attempts to behave normally are starting to annoy her. She just lost her best friend. Her confident. Her other being. Her kindred spirit. The only one who understood her, who supported her and protected her while never treating her as an ignorant child. A girl queen. As her private counsel (and even her husband) liked to call her behind her back.
She could carry on, she could live in this facade of a marriage as long as he still breathed the same air as her. She could wake up and make believe as if she was going to travel to his house to visit a friend. She could picture their conversations and how he laughed. His words of comfort. She could do all of that as long as he still lived. Now everytime she thought of him, everytime someone mentions him in a conversation. It is all in the past tense. Like they are speaking of a ghost.
And they do love to do that. Specially Albert. As a way to try to get at her nerves or to bring any reaction from her. She would not allow that. She could suffer with her own solitude inside, but her posture on the outside would remain as a queen, never let them know how hard it is to bear, just like he taught her.
A week after Lord Melbourne passed away, she received a small package. The writing was strange and no signature to be found.
Inside the package was a small piece of paper and a strange oval music box. It was a message from her departed friend, her beloved William Lamb, she thought. It seems like it was written in a hurry. It only said:
For one last night, until the sunrise.
She ran and shut herself in a room. Her mouth was dry. Was this some kind of a jest? Maybe her husband wasn't over playing stupid games with her. She inquired who delivered the package and Mr Penge, her steward, only said it came from Brocket Hall.
She thought it best to deal with this after everyone had retired to their bedrooms and the palace was quiet. She went to the library in the far west wing and closed the doors and windows behind her. She wound up the music box. It was Mozart...of course it was Mozart! It was his favourite after all. Her eyes shone with tears. A tiny couple danced in rounds in the center of the box. A very tall elegant man and a tiny lady in a white dress. Very much like her coronation dress she thought. The music made her feel strange and the tiny dolls dancing were almost hypnotizing. She felt like she was being drawn inside the box and shut her eyes fast.
When she opened them again she gasped in surprise. She wasn't in Buckingham Palace anymore. She was in a crowded street at night. The cold was intense and she felt immediately terrified. Until she heard the most unmistakable voice. A voice that could always bring her warmth and safety. It was the raspy voice of her beloved Lord M. She turned back to look and almost thought she was going insane. It was indeed her Lord M but he was much much younger.
She recognized him from a painting she saw once in Brocket Hall. Long curly hair, gentle eyes, cheekbones so sharp they could cut her very soul and she would be glad of it. He walked inside a house and Victoria followed after. It was one of those establishments where men gather to drink at night. She heard stories about them but never been inside one herself. This couldn't be a dream then, she thought. She sat in a table close to where he sat. She touched the table, solid. She touched the window, solid. She felt the warmth of the fire, real. If all those things were real, then...He...must be too.
She sat and watched him and his friends banter and drink. She was happy just to be again in the same room as he was, although she could admit the noise was too much for her standards. A young girl approached her and asked her if she wanted anything to drink. She suddenly remembered she didn't have any money on her, only her tiny music box which she held on for her dear life. She felt embarrassed and looked over to the fire as excuse. “I'm just a poor woman that needs to warm herself for a few minutes and then I'll be on my way” Victoria told the girl expecting her sympathy, the girl nodded in understanding and walked away.
When Victoria looked over to William again she saw he was already surrounded with young barmaids. “One more pretty than the next...and they're all so tall” she thought sadly. She looked at her reflection through the window. Only a few years of marriage life made her look so much older. There were already a few wrinkles on her face and tiny white hairs on her head. But more than that she didn't sleep well for days and ate little. Her appearance was more ghostly than anything else.
As she turned her eyes again she found him looking straight at her. Those piercing green eyes giving her the full force of his stare. That, combined with his irresistible half smile, always made her weak in the knees. She immediately looked down, her cheeks flaming. When she looked up again was to discover he was sitting right across her at her table. She couldn't breathe let alone think. He gave her that smile she knew so well.
“Hello there. I come here every night and never seen you before...are you a newcomer to these parts?”
“I'm Nancy, I've come from Prussia seeking work at the court...my Lord!” (she quickly corrected herself)
He was smiling at her. And she missed that. She missed him so much. She couldn't help but to smile herself. It was her first genuine smile in days. She became extremely aware of how he was staring at her. She only now remembered that she was wearing a simple night dress (almost see through) and her hair was styled in one simple braid. She flushed. It didn't matter if she was the younger and he the older or the opposite. It seems she would never feel adequate next to him. But he couldn't be staring at her like that? Could he? The same way he used to do when they were dancing and she was much younger.
As if reading her thoughts he offered his hand to her from across the table. “It's fine, I understand how you feel. Being in a new place and feeling different from everyone around you.”
She looked at his hand and wondered if it would feel as real as all the other things she touched. She was so starved for this man that she forgot all protocol and extended her own hand to him. His touch, his warm fingers in her like when they danced. Finally!! It's been so long!!
When she moved to be a little closer she accidentally showed her left hand above the table. His eyes darted immediately for it as the big ring came into his vision. “It seems I'm already late.” He said with a sad smile. She hid her hand with shame (“but it was you who pushed me into it” she thought)
She noticed he didn't let go of her hand as any gentleman would do at this point. It seems as though it made his desire grow. She remembered now that he was always close to danger liaisons and scandals. Perhaps she was the one who stirred that in him, she thought with a naughty pride.
They talked and talked. William made her smile with his jests and paid for her lots of strange yellow beverages. She felt young again but so much more because she could never behave like any other normal woman of her age. They soon reached their old favourite subject, politics.
“It seems old king Ed is sick the poor man...and they say his newborn daughter will take over because all his brothers have no heirs. Can you imagine, a queen in England after all these years?”
“Do you think it a mistake, because she's still so young and everything?” She asked, her heartbeat faster than ever.
“From my perspective her youth is actually a positive thing. It means more time to make mistakes and to learn from them. She will be wiser than most kings and with half their age I can bet on that!”
It seems William has always been the perfect statesman. He always knew the right thing to say to her. When she got back to her own time she would make sure to make him proud of her. Then...she remembered the note...it said until sunrise only! It meant that whatever magic brought her there would be gone by sunrise. She could not let him see her fading away. He would go mad for sure. And she didn't want to say goodbye again. It would kill her. As she saw the first light of dawn she got up urgently from her table and ran to the door.
A very drunk William Lamb followed her outside and managed to grab her hand at the last minute. “Where are you going Ma'am? I want to dance with you!” He laughed, bringing her slowly to him. Their bodies pressed closely together.
She managed a sad smile at the irony, as she touched his face, and parted her lips to say “Not tonight” as he had replied to her that night at her coronation ball when they first danced and she realised that she would love him forever. But he was faster than her and touched her lips with his.
It was a dream. She was dreaming now surely. And she never wanted to wake up again. In that kiss she gave everything she couldn't give him all those years. Tongues. Tears. Body. Heart. Soul. But she was fading. Drifting away. In the back of her mind Mozart played. She opened her eyes again and she was back at Buckingham. The music and the box were gone.
To be continued (?)

More Mini Book Reviews
Truly, Darkly, Deeply by Victoria Selman - Not my usual thing, but I picked it up and read it anyway because why not and it was alright! I thought the ending was a bit naff, but the rest of it explored some pretty interesting ideas. It was about a girl whose mum was dating a serial killer (obviously they didn't know at the time) and how his arrest really impacted them.
Temeraire or His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik, book 1 of the Temeraire series - Not me out here almost crying at the connection between man and beast. Seriously I really loved this one, it's like Httyd but for adults, and I'm absolutely living for it. Also I really like books about ships - something about the idea of a crew really appeals to me I think - and this really hit that spot for me. Also, the dragons are cool.
Scarlet by Genevieve Cogman, book 1 of the Scarlet Revolution Series - Basically just some good fun! It's not a vampire romance as many will be pleased to know, and the vampires do actually pose a threat, which is nice. It's set in an alternate-universe French revolution, and explores such ideas as 'hmm, maybe the beheadings were a bit too far but would it really be so bad to take down all the rich people?'. Idk, I enjoyed it.
The Witch's Warning by Joseph Delaney, book 2 (the final book) of the Aberrations series - Very good indeed, Delaney is brilliant at making dark spooky worlds full of horrors and monsters. Just really is a shame he died before he could finish the series as the only thing that lets this book down is that it spends a fair bit of time building up to a sequel that never gets to happen.
The Family Remains by Lisa Jewel, the sequel to The Family Upstairs - Really, really good follow-up book to the first one, using everything you learned about the characters there to build tension in this one. Lots of different things happening, multiple POVs, interconnecting storylines, and wrapping up some loose plot points from the last book. I recommend this pair a lot to people in the library and most seem to like it!
Spook's: Alice by Joseph Delaney, book 12 of the Wardstone Chronicles - God I love this character. As with all of this series, you can definitely tell they're books written for children, but that doesn't mean they're bad, nor do they shy away from some pretty gruesome stuff. We're winding up now for the final book as this is the second to last and things are looking exciting. I can't say too much about this one without spoiling it unfortunately but just know that it's as solid as the rest of the series.
The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud, book 1 of the Scarlett and Browne series - I actually read this before a couple of years ago and decided to read it again before I read the sequel because I'd forgotten what happened. It's a really good book; Stroud really know what he's doing. If you liked Lockwood & Co. for the character interactions then you'll love this. The worldbuilding is on point, the characters feel full-dimensional, and the hijinks is everpresent. Just a really fun read.
Dracula by Bram Stoker - I went to Whitby on holiday for a few days so naturally took this with me. I don't read very many classics at all so it took a little while for me to tune into the language and get used to everyone taking two pages to say what could have been said in two sentences, but once I did I had a grand old time with it. I wouldn't say it's anywhere near scary by today's standards, but it was interesting to see where a lot of modern tropes got their origins. Also, I've read Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu before and it was cool to be able to mentally compare and contrast them and see where Bram Stoker was inspired by different things.
The Notorious Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud, book 2 of the Scarlett and Browne series - Just as good as the first if not better. Where the first book focused more on Albert and where he'd come from and his backstory, in this one we explore more of Scarlett's history and how she came to be the person she is today. Fast-paced, witty, and packed with actions, I really enjoyed it and strongly recommend it!
The Mystery of Three Quarters by Sophie Hannah - Read this one for my book club and it was... alright. Nothing special, but not bad enough to not finish. I didn't manage to solve the mystery unfortunately but that's no surprise, though I will say that it did feel pretty convoluted. Not too sure why the character of Hercule Poirot was used other than to cash in on the name of course, and Sophie Hannah is definitely no Agatha Christie, but, like I said, it was okay.
Girls With Razor Hearts by Suzanne Young, book 2 of the Girls With Sharp Sticks series - Sometimes, you just want to read a book about sisterhood and taking down the patriarchy. From some of the fics I've seen around, people who really enjoyed those parts of the Barbie movie might enjoy these books. They're by no means subtle in their messaging, but sometimes I like a book that just lays everything out on the table in front of you because it's borderline impossible to misinterpret them. Definitely feels like a teen-fic book, but that's okay because it is one.
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan, book 2 of the Heroes of Olympus series - Do I really need to say anything about this one? We all know Riordan is brilliant.
Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield - Oh boy this one was A Lot TM. Kind of an eldritch horror story in Leah's bits, and then a story about mourning someone who's not really gone and learning to let go in Miri's chapters. Very much a 'came back wrong' sort of scenario, but less scary and more just deeply sad. I had to take a break and go look at trees for a while after I finished it. The ending was low-key heartbreaking.
Revival by Stephen King - Sort of promised myself I wouldn't read any more of his books but here I am. This one was actually pretty good for the most part though! Not very horror-y, I didn't think, but still a good story. The only bit I didn't like was when the 52 year old protagonist is sleeping with the 24 year old daughter of his co-worker, but I honestly should have expected that because this is a Stephen King book.

So I knew going into the red white and royal blue movie. I knew that it wouldn’t be that accurate to the book because you can’t do that in a two hour long movie the only Way they would have been able to do that is if they would have done a mini series. In my personal opinion Taylor and Nicolas were perfectly cast. They are exactly how I pictured Henry and Alex. I honestly loved the movie and some of the changes were amazing. Now I will say they were parts of the movie. I did not enjoy because they changed it from the book or it was not in the book but here is my list of. 23 things I loved and hated about the movie but I will honestly watch it again just like a re-read the book the only thing I would’ve changed I would have you know maybe ended it with the bonus chapters that are in Henry’s point of you just because I would have loved to have seen them end with the wedding. But you never know maybe will get a second movie based off those 16 pages.
1. No June
2.No queen
3. no, White House trio quizzing over facts about Prince Henry.
4. Henry and Alex meeting at a conference instead of the Olympics.
5. Oscar and Elaine still being married and not divorced
6. Alex, coming out to Nora in their conversation I love how it did kind of stayed to the book
7. The get low scene at the New Year’s Eve party. It is everything I pictured it to be from the book. The only thing is I wish they would’ve had June.
8. their first kiss was amazing. It was everything I wanted it to be.
9. The red room sene was everything I needed it to be the only thing I would have add was Henry humming god save the Queen or in this case god save the king
10. The polo match and Paris is perfect
11.Henry last name change I understand why they did it
12. Their conversation in bed when Alex tells Henry about his father coming to America it was beautiful and unexpected
13. Alex being sent to Texas is amazing to help Elaine get elected. I wish this would’ve been in the book.
14. Henry and Alex meet up in the New York hotel after the democratic convention was amazing
15. Zara walking in on Henry and Alex in the hotel room was amazing and everything I wanted it to be and more
16. Getting Henry thoughts after he left the lake house and seeing into his world
17.The storming of the castle and Henry explaining how his family would not support him
18.Henry and Alex going to the Victoria and Albert Museum, and I love how they changed the song from Elton John’s your song to Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Perfume Genius. It honestly fits better
19. history huh? I bet we could make some. that is my favorite line from the book and I am so glad it was included.
20. The blending of my country ‘tis of faith in God, save the King. was absolutely beautiful
21. The meeting between the king and the rest of the royal family and Alex then for the two of them to walk out onto the balcony
22. Henry and Alex holding hands during Ellen victory speech
23. The bicycle ride to the house was everything I wanted

Hi! I saw some of your yuumori posts and if it's okay I got a few questions. So in 1 post you mentioned how even though the plan was successful, yet there is still the queen who is a ... negative simbol? What did you mean by that? And it seems to me that you're not really fond of Albert. May I ask why? Gotta admit that he is one of my favourites, so I'm a bit biased. But I admit that I don't really like Liam... and Sherliam to me is just okayish... Sorry for my english. Thank you!
You're going to have to link me to that one, because I don't remember saying this or why I would say it. But I've written a lot of things, so...there's a lot to go through. I don't talk about Queen Victoria that much, because I don't find her that interesting, but a couple people have asked a few times, so it might be from one of those things
I don't dislike Albert. I just, historically, haven't found him all that interesting compared to the others.
I was discussing this with a friend the other day, actually. Albert doesn't really have an arc in Part One. We learn a lot more about him after the time skip, and I thought that was all good and interesting, but...he doesn't change as a person. He doesn't grow. He's guilty and regretful the entire time, basically, and then he decides to atone with his brothers after like two seconds after someone else suggests it because he couldn't even come to that conclusion on his own. Apparently.
William, I'm a sucker for, because he's exactly the kind of character I like: awkward, introverted, geniuses who care wayyyy too much and have no idea how to handle it, and also angry traumatized characters who react poorly because trauma. He got both of the smashed into one, and I just. Love that. But I've written enough posts about why I love William. I've written enough posts about why I love Louis. Probably enough about why I love Sherlock.
And I think liking Liam is fine. He's the protagonist. I'm supposed to like him. I think most people who like the series like him.
I think Albert does a lot of interesting things for the plot. I think he does interesting things to show other characters in various lights. I think he's a good character, and he can be interesting in the story. I've written a lot about his mental illness because I find that fascinating and really well written.
But "Handsome jerk who never seems to flinch and never seems to lose," is just...not...really my type.

Week 2 - Exhibition
Photography Centre, Victoria and Albert Museum
Photo 1:
Tumblr media
Artist: Paul Trevor
Title: Constant Exposure
Year of Creation: 1977-79
Pattern is an important compositional aspect of this piece. There is a pattern in the repetition of rectangles. This repetition of shapes creates various straight lines horizontally and vertically across the photograph.
The pattern of the still images of television screens articulates the public’s exposure to media and the amount of media that the public consumes. This work seems to speak to the influence of the media and its overwhelming presence in our lives.
Photo Series:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: Mont Blanc
Photographer: Underwood and Underwood Publishers
Date of Work: 1901
Subject of Series: The ascent and descent of mountaineers on Mont Blanc in Switzerland. The subject of these images is the mountaineers and the mountains.
The series is about the accomplishment of these mountaineers climbing one of the highest mountains in Europe. It also seems to be about the vastness of nature and the shear size of these mountains.
Technical Choices: In each of these three photos from the series, the mountaineers are positioned differently in the frame. In the second photo, the three men follow along a diagonal line from the top left to the bottom right of the frame. Their positioning from one another is symmetrical and creates repetition/a pattern. In the third photo, the mountaineers are far away from the camera and are off to the side of the frame. The positioning of the photographer in relation to the mountaineers illustrates the grand size of the mountain and challenge of climbing Mont Blanc. This series was shown using a stereoscope which allows the viewer to view two separate images simultaneously and creates an overlap of the two photos in the viewers sight, causing the image to appear three dimensional. This device made me feel as if I was stepping into the image and immersed by it. The photos are in black and white; this creates a starker contrast between the white, snowy mountains and the mountaineers. It also creates contrast in the mountains are the changes in the terrain are more visible.
What unites this series is the journey the mountaineers take up and down Mont Blanc. Visually, the series is unified by the landscape of the Mont Blanc mountains. These individual images work together to create a story about this group’s climb in the mountains and documents their long and difficult journey.

Shahed Saleem creates mosque pavilion as a "reconstruction of migrant histories"
Tumblr media
London-based architect Shahed Saleem has created a colourful pavilion in the shape of a mosque, which has been erected at the V&A museum as part of this year's Ramadan Festival.
Saleem, who is of Indian heritage, designed the pavilion for the Ramadan Tent Project's annual festival, which celebrates the holy month of Ramadan.
He drew on his own lived experience as a second-generation immigrant for the design while aiming to capture the collective feelings of distance that are sometimes endured by the wider Muslim diaspora.
Tumblr media
This led him to design the pavilion as a reconstructed mosque with different architectural motifs and bright colours acting as various fragments of identity.
"As a child of immigrants I have experienced and learned how to negotiate different cultural worlds," Saleem told Dezeen.
"I have seen how migrant communities deal with loss and distance from homelands, and how they attempt to reconstruct and reassemble cultural memories and histories in a new place," he continued.
Tumblr media
The pavilion is made up of elements found in mosque architecture including arches, a dome, a staircase, a roof and a mihrab – a semicircular niche that orients the direction of prayer.
"The pavilion represents this by showing historic fragments as being collaged and held together in a new structural frame," Saleem said.
"There is an overall sense of porousness and precarity, suggesting that the new narratives created through the reconstruction of migrant histories and experiences is an ongoing and dynamic process."

Saleem built the Ramadan Pavilion from plywood sheets glued and screwed together with steel brackets and fixings, while glulam timber was used for its structural and reinforcement elements.
Meanwhile, the minaret – the red and pink striped tower – has a vertical steel post and steel-framed base. In traditional mosques, the minaret is built into or stands next to the mosques and is used to call Muslims to pray.

"Through the colours, finish and shapes, I wanted to give a sense of fun and playfulness, to suggest a childlike innocence and also to give joy," Saleem explained.
"This is because issues around migrants and Islam in Europe are highly politicised, and the aesthetics of the pavilion suggests that joy and commonality is also possible and offers another way of engaging with other cultures."
For reference, the architect turned to the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A's) collection of prints and photographs of mosques and other examples of Islamic architectural design, as well as the architecture of British mosques from the 1960s to the present day.
"Each of these elements has been derived from 19th and 20th-century drawings and photographs in the V&A prints and drawings collection which depict historic Islamic architecture from north Africa to India," Saleem said.
"I have taken references from these images to create the elements for the pavilion. The pavilion is therefore a postcolonial reinterpretation of colonial representations of the Islamic world."

This year, Ramadan begins on Wednesday 22 March and lasts for 30 days. The month is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.
The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, which means that Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar.
Visitors to the Ramadan Pavilion will be able to attend a series of curated events, performances and workshops.
Mosques have been used as sources of inspiration for other installations around the world. Saudi Arabian artist Ajlan Gharem's Paradise Has Many Gates installation reimagines the traditional mosque as a cagey, steel-wired structure.
At the Islamic Arts Biennale in Saudi Arabia, Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari designed three dismantlable mosques to demonstrate the potential of bamboo.
The Ramadan Pavilion is on display at the V&A's Exhibition Road Courtyard in South Kensington until 1 May 2023 as part of the Ramadan Festival.
