I've been thinking about the Trump Bibles thing, and I think I've figured it out.
I think it's just a way for churches to end-run the prohibition on churches making political donations. Because, you see, they're not donating money... they're purchasing goods!

It is frustrating how understanding of “rape culture” has totally evaporated. When we talk about sexual violence or pedophilia or incest or any of these things, it’s never within the framework of these as extensions of patriarchy, not “deviant,” but an integral element.
People are so desperate to project these onto The Other. Often it’s a vague “the predator” lurking in the bushes, when in reality most sexual violence (against children and adults) comes from those close to them with systemic power over them: The Boyfriend, The Father, The Manager. But more often it’s projected onto a more specific Other, commonly coupled with either Orientalism or Transmisogyny, but of course has been used more broadly.
It’s clear that there is no principled opposition to the sexual harm or deviancy here, otherwise the primary targets would be patriarchy and the nuclear family. Instead, these issues are raised to be projected onto Others to justify bigotry that in the past required none.

its really wild how many movies and tv shows are just like, obscenely skinny. how many casts are representative of the average population, if you sampled a crowd in a normal store or on a train? how many actually “average” bodies do you see on screen? how often are the stomachs shown flat or concave, how often are the thighs all muscle no fat, how often are the jawlines and cheekbones perfect and not covered by even a hint of softness? its bizarre and offputting whenever you start looking at media with that in mind

Plenty of highly intelligent people end up getting sucked in to cults because they just wanted people to hang out with. There are antivaxxer nurses. Your ability to act on empirical reason breaks down fast if your social and emotional needs aren't being met.

It legitimately amazes me how the “We can't allow the Holocaust to happen again” crowd can look at something like this and still claim that the Israeli government isn’t committing any war crimes.
Absolutely horrific stuff.

Cool. Definitely not a bad sign, and definitely not something that will be used to slaughter more innocent people. Thanks for enabling the deaths of thousands and potentially many more by not pushing Genocide Joe for a ceasefire liberals, now the genocide is a weapons testing ground!

one of my favourite excerpts from alexander g. weheliye’s habeas viscus:
Tumblr media
alt ID: Building on Hortense Spiller’s distinction between body and flesh and the write of habeas corpus, I use the phrase habeas viscus– “you shall have the flesh”– on the one hand, to signal how violent political domination activates a fleshy surplus that simultaneously sustains and disfigures said brutality, and, on the other hand, to reclaim the atrocity of flesh as a pivotal area fro the politics emanating from different traditions of the oppressed. The flesh, rather than displacing bare life or civil death, excavates the social (after)life of these categories: it represents racializing assemblages of subjection that can never annihilate lines of flight, freedom dreams, practices of liberation, and possibilities of other worlds.

Museum of Nonhumanity is the catalogue for a full-size touring museum that presents the history of the distinction between humans and animals, and the way that this artificial boundary has been used to oppress human and nonhuman beings over long historical periods. Throughout history, declaring a group to be nonhuman or subhuman has been an effective tool for justifying slavery, oppression, medical experimentation, genocide, and other forms of violence against those deemed “other.” Conversely, differentiating humans from other species has paved the way for the abuse of natural resources and other animals. Museum of Nonhumanity approaches animalization as a nexus that connects xenophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia, and the abuse of nature and other animals. The touring museum hosts lecture programs in which local civil rights and animal rights organizations, academics, artists, and activists propose paths to a more inclusive society through intersectional approaches. The museum also hosts a pop-up book shop and a vegan café. As a temporary, utopian institution, Museum of Nonhumanity stands as a monument to the call to make animalization history.

Just as the ‘self-management’ construct was seminal in the reorganization of capitalism over the past thirty years, citizen action is nothing other than the current instrument of the modernization of politics. This new ‘civilizing process’ is based on the critique of authority developed in the 1970s, when second-order cybernetics was crystalizing. The critique of political representation as a separate power, already recuperated by the new management in the sphere of economic production, is not being reinvested in the political sphere. Everywhere you look it’s all about the horizontality of relations of participation in projects that are meant to replace the old-fashioned hierarchical and bureaucratic authority, counter-powers and decentralizations that are supposed to undo the monopolies and the secrecy. In this way the chains of social interdependence are extended and tightened without hinderance; here they’re made of surveillance, elsewhere of delegation. The integration of civil society by the State and the integration of the State by civil society mesh together more and more smoothly. In this way the the division of labor for the management of populations is organized, an organization necessary to the dynamic of cybernetic capitalism. In the foreseeable future, the affirmation of a ‘world citizenship’ will complete the process

There is nothing to discover in nature; there is no hidden secret. We live in a punk hypermodernity: it is no longer about discovering the hidden truth in nature; it is about the necessity to specify the cultural, political, and technological processes through which the body as artifact acquires natural status. […] There is nothing to discover in sex or in sexual identity; there is no inside. The truth about sex is not a disclosure; it is sexdesign.

in 1986 book "south africa: the solution", libertarian economist leon louw suggests that south africa should become a swiss-style confederation with different ideologies in each canton. one of these is a marxist-leninist reverse-apartheid state and the description is great fun

Yesterday a fellow vendor shared with me the secret of Who Has All The Money in the spirituality scene, and it's the New Age Yoga Bitches.
Guess that solves the mystery of why metaphysical shops always stock things wildly appropriated from Buddhism and Hinduism.
