i can sort of get the hawkfrost and splashtail comparisons on a very surface level analysis, but other than that....eh. hawkfrost is executed terribly in canon (imo) but he has a lot of surrounding factors that make him interesting (him being half-clan in a xenophobic clan, his relationship with tigerstar and sasha, tadpole, his abuse of mothwing, etc). meanwhile splashtail i guess has vaguely abused a medic? wants power? but that's about it. the writers are so disinterested in exploring their female cast that we don't even get any mothwing/hawkfrost parallels with splashtail and fognose (because heaven FORBID we give a sister in this series a chance to actually have a role in the story!)

i cannot truly in good faith recommend the current arc because it is quite bad. all of my curlfeather art operates 99% on my personal interpretation of her since she barely shows up, and when she does appear the erins don’t understand her like i do. however i do think the broken code is worth reading it is very fun despite its flaws and is my second favorite arc personally.

I'll be honest chief, not a fan of how a lot of astarion's fans who preach on the spawn ending give them the right to feel ownership of the character and story. "I give you permission to ascend Astarion, but only if you admit it's toxic!"

God I loved the spawn ending genuinely because it was wholesome and healthy version of how his romance can turn out, but the fact that people are being smug about it, write essays on it, at how everything relates to their personal trauma and that it must be the only way to solve it is nuts.

It's a video game guys, chile.

The people offended are those who think that he has a "canon" ending and that it's the spawn ending. And like, from their POV, I understand why they're offended. But while that's the morally good and irl aligning "healthy" option, it is no more canon for his narrative than the asc ending. On top of that, it's like they look at us and hear "power courses through you--authority!" in their heads lmao

I understand people being uneasy about his amoral evil ending. It IS dark after all. On top of that, the spawn ending is often tied to someone's personal experiences/memories or something else for them. That's fair. But have they ever considered that the asc ending is the same way for us? Doesn't ever seem like it.

If someone can't see it the way we do.... that's okay! They don't have to see things like Asc fans do. That'd be boring for all of us anyway.

But they can at least respect the fact that we see it differently and it's not bad for us to do so. We have nothing to be ashamed of or sorry for. We have nothing to admit. With the nuances of his story, we see the same information and interpret it differently. That's what you're SUPPOSED to do with this type of game.

I'm glad to see Curlfeather again. At first I was worried they'd make her anger only about Splashtail ruining her plans and not address him trying to kill her kit, so I was glad when they did bring it up in a way that wasn't so flippant as her first mention of it. I wish they'd leaned into it a bit more.

Her description was definitely very gorey, even for warrior cats. I love all the fanart people are making of the scene but I'm going to keep focusing on the mostly curlfeather-centric video I'm working on rather than singular pieces- you might see it referenced there once it's out

I loved having a lot more Duskfur presence- as Curlfeather's mother, I have a Lot of thoughts about her. I like her characterization in the excerpt and her interactions with Mothwing and Frostpaw. I'm glad Frostpaw is allowed to be angry, as well

I think there's something to be said about Splashtail and his relationship with Curlfeather. Even if he was already an ambitious cat with violent tendencies, she Was an older warrior who in a way completely uprooted his life before he even finished his apprenticeship, a warrior who is still haunting him after his death. It's something I'd love to explore, but only in an ideal world where half the fandom didn't already believe Curlfeather was a wholly, entirely evil cat with nothing but malice behind her every action. I don't really want to encourage that.

Not saying I think none of the things she did were wrong. But I think it's infinitely more interesting to explore a character's complex feelings and motivations than label them as evil for evil's sake. I do believe she wanted what was best for her clan and her kits, and believed, if everything went to plan, that her kits, including frostpaw, would never have to face the negative consequences her actions ultimately brought. I also think there are legitimate reasons for her to feel the way she does about Starclan. I could make a multi-hour video essay on this with books excerpts and all. But I refrain

I don’t know anything about frostpaw why is the scar on her neck called her spay scar? She got injured when she got caught?

Oh the neck scar is a separate injury she receives shortly before she’s caught and spayed, I didn’t actually draw the actual spay scar which is why I apologized for not drawing it in the tags. There’s a scar on her flank from getting trapped neutered released, but I imagine it to be on the side facing away from the viewer in my drawing, so that’s why it’s not visible.

I hope there’s some big battles that cuts some clans down sizes. Mainly ThunderClan. Like I can name ten ThunderClan cats right now and they are only the ones who where main povs ( or for my Au but that’s diffrent )
