This is equally as rambly, but ehhhhh it’s fiiiiiine!

Hector’s struggle with his own humanity and his process of distancing himself from it but then realizing it again is just ahhhhhh! Peak perfection.

To have the whole world against you for such a fundamental part of yourself (ties to dark magic /devil forging in this case) and being promised power and a fix-all by someone who has been there done that is so compelling as a story arc. I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t at least consider that - I feel like many of us have thought about it (though maybe not in that extreme). Then to finally escape only to have his first chance at happiness ripped from him makes my heart ache.

Going off of that, ultimately Dracula got his revenge in Rosaly’s death. Even when all that remained of Dracula was his curse, his influence over Isaac and turning him into a monster is a form of revenge for insubordination (intentional or not) that couldn’t be more twisted (and makes his pursuit of Isaac so desperate because, as far as he knows, the root cause of his wife’s death got pummeled into the ground by the person he was instructed to kill). Poor Hector really cannot catch a break.

That said, Hector’s acceptance of his humanity, his realization that he deserves love, and his nobility are why he’s in my top 5 CV characters. I’m also just a massive sucker for guys who are good with magic and animals. Sue me.

Isaac, Isaac, Isaac.

I love him. I love how twisted and cruel he is. He’s so over the top nutty that you can’t help but love him (and want to see him come out of everything and have a redemption arc). If we go by what Julia says when she meets Hector, I can see his rejection of his humanity and clinging to Dracula as a sort of coping mechanism for a terrible loss (which I assume would be family members). He sees Dracula as his only guidance and salvation and is so sure that he’s not just a tool for Drac’s war on humans that it’s really sad. He does have a tether to humanity in Julia, but ultimately rejects even that because Dracula manipulated him into thinking otherwise. And it’s just how he’s used and doomed by Dracula that makes me wish he was able to be redeemed. Obviously he wasn’t always the self-absorbed, vengeful gremlin he is in CoD and it’s adaptations. I firmly believe he was a kinder person with a normal amount of darkness and trauma and a brain that was just too susceptible to Dracula’s influence. And it’s the culmination of loss and manipulation that leads him to his own demise and I fully understand why Julia is so torn up about him. This is not the brother she knows and she just wants him back.

He’s tragic. Twisted, but tragic.

I just love them. They’re both perfect and compelling. They really are the perfect illustration of extremes.

He was gullible and naive, but so very lovable. As much as he disliked fellow humans, he was just as empathetic, just as trusting, just as ignorant. He was a lost, neglected little meow meow, but his heart was in the right place. I hope he reunited with little Cezar eventually.

BUT—

I am wholly unsatisfied by the conclusion to his story though. He’s going to write a book—okay, nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, it’s great; don’t let future people make the same mistakes. That is noble. But where was my boy’s rebellion? Where. Was. My. Boy’s. Redemption?

I love Isaac, but I was hoping Hector would put an end to Carmilla instead. It seemed more fitting, given that she was the one who manipulated him and brought him to Styria.

Don’t get me wrong though. I am happy that Hector was free by the end, that he ended up freer than Lenore—though you could argue she was too, given her choice, but she won’t be around to savour that, would she?—but man, Hector needed to team up with Isaac against Carmilla… or uh at the very least, idk, slap Carmilla or something. Anything. Unsatisfying af. I know you can be happy and live your life without revenge and it’s probably far healthier to do so, but this is an action fiction where living beings stab other living beings and I. Want. In. On. That. For. Hector!

I am not super familiar with the games outside of Symphony of the Night but I looooove that one a lot and I love the art and sound design generally associated with the series. The show is disappointing on multiple fronts and I stopped watching it about an episode and a half into the third season 💀 Basically doing my best to pretend it doesn't exist

I think my absolute favorite story from what I have written is Drowning in the Flames (Castlevania, Hector-centric). It really is a story I enjoyed both writing and will enjoy rereading. It really is kind of my first story to actually deal with religion on a deeper level and I found that I like it.

For the same reason I also really enjoyed writing Sinners (which is not yet fully uploaded - Castlevania, Hector/Isaac). And yes, with that one I am kinda proud about trying to deal with the issue at hand. Aka Isaac dealing with the religious concept of sin.

Currently I am also super enjoying writing the Thick as Thieves (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) story. Mostly because of the humor and because I get to write all those stupid bardic songs.

Hmm, let me think. Then there is also Shadows in the Night, a CaitVi story with Horror elements. I think I nailed the atmosphere in that one.

And speaking about Arcane... I honestly really loved how Nothing but Distance (a whumpy, smutty Viktor/Jayce) turned out in the end. That one was fun! (Well, in the whumpy way.)

Favorite character? Hector. I love me an Idealist, that's my baby boy Funniest? Definitely Trevor. Torn between Hector, Isaac, and Alucard for best looking, but everyone in that show is stunning. Top 3 ships have to be Trevor & Sypha, Dracula & Lisa, Alucard & angst <333 (I'm a sucker for Lenore & Hector too) Least favorite character is Carmilla... Hated her so bad. Least favorite ship is Alucard & those twins. I watched it because the art was pretty and I was also in my vampire phase when it first came out.

Question for old Hector: Have you ever thought that you and Isaac are actually very similar? Because of you, he lost the one he loved, the one he wanted to protect. It was you who was the rabid beast in his eyes. You were both children raised by a monster who forgot how to be human.

... I had a long time to think about what happened with Isaac.

You're right. I was the monster in his eyes, as much as he was to me. I hurt him, I turned my back on him and destroyed his life. By the time I realized that the matter was more complicated than what I thought... it was too late. Isaac deserved better.

But not from me. I was not the right person to make him happy.

Isaac loved with an unmatched passion. And with that passion, he chose to love Dracula more than himself, and he chose to follow him in his insanity. I couldn't follow them, and he wouldn't listen to me.

Was I selfish? Undoubtedly. But I can't blame myself for the human instinct of self-preservation. I wanted to live, and I wanted to live as a human being, free of constraints, not a pawn in a senseless slaughter.

Should have I died too, in the name of a friendship built on shared misery?

Isaac died because, ultimately, he didn't care about living, and he didn't care about freedom. He loved a monster, and he became one, and he died like one.

I could blame Dracula, who was cruel enough to take in two children in need and twist them to suit his purposes. I, myself, am taking care of children who were abandoned by the world, and the mere thought of doing to them what Dracula did to us makes me shudder. But he's dead, too, and I used to respect the man inside him too much to dismiss him as a mere spawn of Hell. I've seen what resentment can do to you, and I reject it.

I choose to remember Isaac as the kind boy who welcomed me in the castle and befriended me without thinking twice. That's all I can say in the matter.

Can't stop thinking about this pattern that has been noticed, that Hector keeps his throat exposed while Isaac keeps it covered (even post-insanity, with the collar)

Isaac is more proper and put together than Hector. He's covered neck to toe, while Hector doesn't even wear gloves. The mere suggestion is insane lmao.

And you would expect the opposite, right? Hector should be the more "professional" one, right?

Instead, we can take this as a subtle showing of the favoritism afforded to Hector. Isaac can't slack off, Isaac has to try twice as hard to keep up with Hector, in abilities and reputation. And he cares! That's why he puts the effort. Hector, on the other hand, can be more lax with his uniform: he's appreciated enough that he doesn't need to look perfect.

This is also reflected in Hector's CoD uniform: it looks hastily put together, and he still only wears one glove on his right hand to hold weapons. (and his throat is still exposed) Hector doesn't really care about being prim and proper: he cares about being efficient. Also something something Hector is falling apart but he tries to keep himself together (he cobbled together the remains of his uniform) while Isaac's psyche has been completely torn to pieces by this point :) symbolism :)

And now I'm going into full headcanon territory. What if we combined this with my idea that Dracula has drunk from both of them? Again, shouldn't we expect Isaac to flaunt his bite marks, and Hector to hide his?

Isaac is quite confident if not shameless, but those marks? The signs that he has been touched by his Lord, that He has taken life from him? Those are sacred. Those need to be protected by the eyes of those lowlife who will never understand. They are for him and his Lord alone. And this is also why he goes through the trouble of covering them up: they are not just scars, they are (in his mind) the symbol of the special bond between Lord and servant who would give every last drop of his blood for Him.

Hector doesn't care, and he may instead be even resentful to be used like that. But there is no point in hiding, no point in acting embarrassed of those marks: that would make him look weak. Besides, it's not like the monsters of the castle aren't already having a good laugh at his expense, the Lord's "favorite" General who smells like Dracula a little too much. So he walks with his head high and without shame, and whatever others think, they're free to do so: he can prove his actual worth at any time.

How would (Y/N) react to Lisa’s burning? How would Dracula’s war court react to her? And Hector and Isaac?

I'm gonna go down the platonic route and make reader Lisa and Dracula's daughter, biological or kidnapped/adopted.

Obviously, any normal human would not react well to anyone being burned at the stake- ALIVE. And maybe when the villagers caught Lisa, they caught you as well and thought you were a witch too. They burned your mother first and just when they had started to burn you, Dracula came and swooped you up and away, along with his now dead wife's remains and while you passed out due to inhaling all the smoke, sustaining some minor burn injuries and well- EXHAUSTION AND TRAUMA, your father returned to slay the entire village and later wreak havoc on all of humanity. Really, a justified reaction from a family man.

Anyways, he returns home with you in his arms and then nurses you back to health all while killing everyone outside. Now, he may still be soft to you but you are absolutely forbidden from leaving the castle. Like you cant even go outside even if Dracula accompanies you. No, he's lost his wife and if youre their bio kid who is more human than vampire unlike your older brother Alucard, then Dracula is way more protective of you. After all, he did see you almost die and really, you remind him far too much of his wife, of her humanity and her kind heart to help others that eventually got her killed.

Initially, right after Lisa's death, Dracula didn't even allow you to even leave your room, too paranoid about some unknown force killing you and him not being able to save you in time. Eventually though, with other vampires and monsters(under his control obv) in the castle, he let you out of your room, but still not out of the castle, and thats when you found out that he had thrown out Alucard and (sort of disowned him??) because your brother was not in favour of Dracula either killing the world or locking you up.

Now, like I said before, Dracula is still soft for you but with Lisa's death he's become a little... emotionally crippled. He has too much pain and hatred inside him, and he's doing his very best that you dont end up on the receiving end of these very negative and very dangerous emotions. However, he sometimes... loses control. When you keep on persisting about how all of this is wrong, about how he shouldnt kill ALL humans, how he shouldnt lock you up or break what remains of this family, he lets his anger out on you. Only a little. He'd yell at you, tell you that you're far too stupid an naive and stubborn to understand what he's doing or why, ask if you're going to side with those murderers that you so desperately want to save over your own family? Are you that blind? He'd drag you back to your room, lock you in there because he wont have you questioning him like he's the bad guy here.

But soon after that, he'd be found sitting in front of one of Lisa's portraits, probably one where she's cradling baby you and he'd start talking to her, trying to explain himself, how he did not mean to blow up at you but you just wouldn't listen to him. The one sided conversation would always end with Dracula feeling guilty and he returns to your room with a heavy heart that just sinks more when he sees you asleep, tear streaks now drying on your cheeks. Sitting on your bed, he'd pet your hair, mumble something about how he loves you and cant afford to risk losing you, smiling softly when you shuffle closer to him.

Since Dracula knows Hector is loyal and sincere to him, he will allow you to have him as your friend. After all, you would need some company in the castle and vampire dad on murder spree is not exactly someone who is ideal for friendship at the moment. So, he permits and even encourages Hector to socialise with you and comfort you. And Hector has a bleeding heart too, so you're in luck because he will happily listen to you express your emotions and provide you with free therapy (he makes dead, one missing limb/eye puppies alive for you🥺) He just wanna protect u too, and while he doesnt agree with you being locked up in the castle, its better than the alternative. Also, has and will fight Isaac 1000% if he talks shit about you because youre human.

As for the court, they know that you are now the only thing dear to Dracula, and while one wouldnt say that you have the vampire king wrapped around your finger, he comes pretty close to it. But its no use really because they cant exactly use you to make Dracula listen to them... or can they?

Considering that you're pretty against the whole "Vampire uprising-kill all humans" plan, they cant persuade you to enslave or kill humans. What they can do is gain Dracula's favour by being... kind to you? Okay take Carmilla for example (because she's the only one I can remember from the court. Her and the brash, red haired vamp?) Now she's smart, she's manipulative and she knows exactly how to use this opportunity. She starts to befriend you by first agreeing that she understands why you're against your father's actions but also tells you that you must understand his decisions from his side. "Your mother was a kind woman, a brilliant doctor and from what I've heard, your father loved her very much. And if you've ever been in love, then you would understand why he's doing all of this." And of course Dracula overhears this because come on, nothing happens in his castle without his knowledge. So yes, he shows slight favouritism towards Carmilla among the court and he may allow her to hang around you a bit (only after Carmilla convinced him that you needed a female friend in your life, and its always better to be in her company than any of those perverted men of his court) but even then, Dracula doesn't completely trust her around you and so he wont allow you two be in contact often.

Dracula would also be way more conscious of your feelings with time, because he will realise eventually that he was far too caught up in his own pain and plan for vengeance that he forgot to see how you were coping with the loss of your mother. If any of the vampires are heard saying something even remotely mean to you, if he even hears Isaac even breathing in disgust at the sight of you because you were part human, they will be swiftly dealt with (girl, he murders them all).
