It was such a blast playing Ash, and my entire cast was so amazing too! I think the thing that made me feel the most supported, was honestly my director. They were trans as well, so when I came out, they were like "Ok, yeah alright hell yeah man"

In this edition, we discuss artistic expressions of noir beyond movies and novels, diegetic music, Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show (1971) with a side trip into Roger Corman, Joan Crawford’s outstanding performance in 1952’s Sudden Fear, actress Linda Fiorentino, and more. We wrap with Eddie’s thoughts on Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg’s 1970 film Performance. On the cat front, Emily is a background player and Eddie reminisces about his first feral-cat appropriation.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone wanting to become a Dungeon Master?

*sigh* Jesus… I just spent a full ten minutes answering this. I wrote a freakin’ essay… and the goddamn internet thing… *deep purposeful breath*

Nice fucking question!

Best advice I got was to learn to become a collector as a DM. Collect character traits. People’s voices, intonation, gestures, if you see something in a movie that scares the crap outta you, break it down. What’s so scary about it? How can you scare others with it? Find the gems in drawing emotion and buy-in from others. Sounds a bit fucked right? Like it’s a whole manipulation game?

Nah, it’s part of telling the story. Consider this… if you will.

When you tell a ghost story by a campfire, aren’t the best ones where everyone is sitting on the edge ready to bust something to find out what’s going on? Yeah it’s called storytelling with intention. What’s the aim of playing DnD? Well it’s a personal answer really depending who you ask but I know in good ol’Hellfire it’s about the ride.

The experience. The fun, ups and downs, adrenaline and laughs. The whole damn lot. What helps that is having a stash of names, character traits, voices, facial expressions. Make it real for them. These characters they’re encountering ARE real. Drawing buy-in in return. It’s cyclical. More buy in-more put in, more fun.

Don’t use a straight everyday tone when you’re up there being the bard dude. You can’t use the same tone of voice you use when you’re discussing best dump of the day with the boys.

Watch people. Collect people. Keep a notebook and write that shit down and practice it at home. The less you feel like a dick playing a character at home the more comfortable you’ll get with it leading a game. Promise.

things r so bad lately talk about some of ur favorite IT blogs.

I agree, it’s a shame really. And I can do that, for sure. I’ve got a lot of favorite IT blogs so strap in and prepare yourself.

I am going to start with @floatingredballoons because this person is the reason I even have this blog. I brought up the idea while writing with them elsewhere, and I told them how I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to do it. I wasn’t sure this was original, I was sure there’d be a thousand demonic Georgies running around, and I wasn’t sure what the climate in the IT rpc was. I was nervous about stepping into a new area, but they encouraged me and here we are. They’re a fantastic Pennywise, and they’re the person I have the most headcanons with as far as Georgie and Penny are concerned. It was bouncing headcanons back and forth with them that really brought my Georgie to life, so I think they’re due some credit for how my boy has developed. (Also follow @vicesandblood for Roman Godfrey)

@sugartrashmouth is a babe too, total all star. We’ve got a few plots going and we’ve got some ideas for new ones that are going to be started. I’m really excited, both about getting replies to our old stuff and beginning the new. This person is an absolute angel ooc too, they’ve done so much to help me stay sane and stable. Their Richie is worth the follow too. I love how he’s like “the older brother that’s also an accidental bad influence” in our threads and I love him in other threads too, so if you’re not already doing it, hover the @ and click the follow. You won’t regret it.

@itsdeadlights is super sweet too? I could cry, honestly, so many of the people I follow and/or that follow me are so beautiful? This is another Pennywise that I love and adore, I hope to be able to get to know her better ooc and I hope to be able to write 23894793489234 threads with her and keep her forever. I read her threads with other people too, I’ve even gotten notifications from her and decided to use that as an excuse to scroll through her blog to catch up on what I’ve missed. I feel all stalker-ish when I do that too, because I’m likely to like a billion things while I’m scrolling so she can TELL that I’m just.. scrolling… her whole.. blog. OOPS. I’ve exposed myself.

@balloontrauma is another sweet angel. We both love theatre, and we’ve geeked out over it a bit. They listened to me ramble on for a while too, to calm my nerves and get things off my chest, and I can’t thank them enough for that. It really means a lot to me. We’ve got a few threads going too, and their characters are just incredible. I am in love.

@homicidal-clown NEVER ENOUGH PENNYWISE! I think we started talking ooc when I said something nice and he flippidied out because he likes my Georgie and looks up to me. And then I flippidied out because akjalsjdsd so much sweetness, and that’s so flattering. I even got a sneak peek at their Halloween stuff before it got posted, and then it was ME that looked up to HIM and his Richie. I will never forget the, “Fuck you.” :O Iconic. This is another person that I want a million threads with.

@beepbeepr is another gem. Their Richie is wonderful, they’re one of the Richie players I would compare mine to if I roleplayed Richie. I’d like to get to know them better, but I think we’re… stepping closer to the “we know each other” zone. There have been compliments and kind words.

@oftoziers and I just started talking ooc today, they reached out to me, and I just think they’re peachy keen? They’re really sweet and I’m so glad that they said something. I’m planning on looking to see if they have opens or sending them a surprise starter (the best surprises are given warning first, right?) sometime soon. I’ve already taken a look through their blog to admire their Richie.

@redxballoons SURPRISE! More Pennywise. We’ve spoken a little and we’ve got a plot in the works that I think I owe a starter for, but they get a mention because I do love their Penny. I read a lot of the stuff that crosses my dash, whether it is for me or not, and their blog is one of the blogs I stop to read when I see.

@ethrealtrauma is beautiful. We haven’t gotten to writing yet, but we do talk, and I do plan on writing something up for them. Maybe I’ll send them some memes tonight while my muse is so weak. I love talking to them and I am really looking forward to writing with them. (Also follow @janexlives)

@hairlikewinterfire and I have a really good plot going on one of my other blogs, I’m really pleased with it. And they’re so sweet ooc too. We’ve talked about some things and I’d love to get to talking to them more often. Everyone on this list is intelligent, but I’d be remiss if I skipped over the fact that I was really digging on their intelligence and the smart talk we shared.

@bccpbeep MORE PENNY! Time for a tiny fist to slam against a table. This is another Penny that I like to read through and occasionally scroll through their blog. They’re just a really good Pennywise and I’ve enjoyed our talks ooc. We need more.

@sewer-daddy just amuses me in general. We do stuff occasionally, but not so much anymore. They get all kinds of asks and the stuff they say is so great? And their ART, gosh. I am in love.

@s-seesghosts is a great Bill. This is another blog that I don’t interact with much anymore, but I definitely still read. If you’re not following, you should be.

@neuroticstuttering and I have one thread, I think, but it was a great one. I’ve spent a good deal of time reading through their blog too. It’s just so good? I have a special place in my heart for multi muse blogs and people who play more than one character, because I know how difficult that is. They pull it off flawlessly, their characters are all spot on and you can immediately tell the differences; even if they were to remove the names and icons,  you’d KNOW who it was supposed to be.

@zombycrs isn’t IT, but I really like Stranger Things and IT crossing over. I’d like to write a thread with them where Will and Georgie both end up in the upside down. Maybe a mix of season one and IT where Georgie and Will are wandering around at the same time and get lured into the upside down by the same beastie that then kidnaps them. Maybe they escape, but they’re still trapped in the upside down. I love their Will and the little we interacted ooc was pleasant.

@evolutiionist is another non IT blog but they rp with a bunch of IT people so I am counting them. This alien babe is basically babysitting my Georgie, even though it’s… not at all what he signed up for. I’m highly amused by their interactions and I look forward to more. Great follow, great follow.

Hrm...who in your opinion is the best Ash? I think Poker Night 2, though I might be biased because the game was my first impression of ash + I really like Danny Webber as Ash, maybe a bit more than Bruce (again. Kinda a bias lmao)

honest to god, you are the mutual that is getting me into Poker Night 2, and that version of Ash is REALLY growing on me

HOWEVER....

I would say that i am a bit more biased towards Ash in Evil Dead The Musical, simply because I'm playing him lol

(but also Bruce is the iconic image of Ash, plus the films were part of a MAJOR gender revelation for me, so also bias there)

What was the last movie you saw at the cinema?

Ok so the last film I got to see at an actual cinema was in ‘85 because ‘86 was a butt-ache of a year.

Can’t remember for sure which was the last but I saw a few that year. Skipped school a lot and.. yeah.. spent some time doing things that got me into a bit of… well…

Back to the Future, Day of the Dead, Fright Night, Breakfast Club… yeah, not a bad year at all.
