PCM5122 is an I2S DAC that does it all 🎶🔧
Having wrapped up our PCM5100 and PCM5102 breakout boards
and added them to the Adafruit shop, it's time to explore more DACs we could support. This is the PCM5122
https://www.digikey.com/short/v9pnq1b2
the "big sister" to the PCM5102. Like its sibling, it supports MCLK-less I2S input, making it a great choice for any microcontroller or Raspberry Pi.
It also features a stand-alone "hardware mode," where mute and format can be set via GPIO pins—no I2C configuration required! However, unlike the PCM5102, it also supports I2C/SPI if needed, with built-in filters, numerous configuration flags, and a pin-settable gain option in hardware mode for attenuation.

Desk of Ladyada - an audio extravaganza 🎧🔧🎤
New audio designs are in the pipeline, including work with TDK’s T5838 PDM mic and PCM1840/PCM1820 chips. Great Search is on for a low-cost, MCK-less I2S DAC to replace the discontinued UDA1334A, like the popular PCM5102A.

TLV320ADCx140 4-Channel microphone I2S ADC 4-Channel microphone I2S ADC 🎤🔊🔧
We saw this TLV320 4-channel microphone ADC in an Echo Dot teardown
and thought it looked like a handy I2S chip. You can have 4 PDM or analog microphones for input, and data comes out on a single stereo I2S channel with time division multiplexing. Four inputs are better than 2 when using microphones for voice array/location projects. This chip doesn't need MCLK, so it would probably work better with a Raspberry Pi! The chip comes in a few flavors, with 106, 120, or 122 dB SNR (you pay more for the 122!) TLV320ADC5140 (as used in the Echo Dot) is in stock at DigiKey
and we'll probably use that one.

Desk of Ladyada - More TLV320 DAC'ing with a Bit of a Run-around 🎧🔍 https://youtu.be/gge8sFjypnQ
This week - We tackle the TLV320DAC3100, fixing headphone & mic issues for a breakout board. Plan to use it in AudioFX remake. Jepler advanced HSTX DVI text mode for Fruit Jam. Also, a search for a new pocket multimeter begins as the fave Amprobe PM51A is discontinued.
