When they met up, Dean manages to almost instantly get on the wrong side of this guy, one Duncan MacLeod. Normally no biggie, but Duncan wields a katana, and claims to be Immortal…

Will Dean lose his head or will he be able to talk the Highlander into helping them?

Several still shots in quick succession, the products of Sam’s camera: a smudge of the cigarette ash Poirot disdained as cliché. A pool of blood inside the white outline of where a body once lay, in approximately the location of its gut. An eerily distinct muddy footprint. Lodged in the center of the bloodstain, Sword in the Stone -style, a knife that appears to be made of nothing, an absence in the matter of the room. 

Dean tries to nudge it with the tip of his shoe, and his boot goes right through. 

Outside the room, a noise. Sam and Dean share a glance and exit the bedroom, guns ready.

MAN: (looks around the living room, whistles) Guess I’ve got my work cut out for me.

DEAN: Who the fuck are you?

MAN: The name’s Holden.

DEAN: (eyebrows raised, more than a little condescending) As in Caulfield?

HOLDEN: As in Driscoll. (flicks a rag onto his shoulder) I’ve been dusting these knickknacks for the last six years.

SAM: You’re the housekeeper?

HOLDEN: What, were you expecting a short skirt and fluffy feather duster? Only on my nights off. (winks)

“Who is this new guy?” he asked. “And why did you get a new guy anyway? I thought that with the cute Irish chick all positions were filled?” He had definitely tried to keep up with the whole story of Sam’s coworkers, but after the fourth person leaving, he had kinda lost his way in all the drama.

At the mention of the Irish girl, Sam blushed suspiciously, but he cleared his throat and answered. “He is actually here because of her, Eileen. She was born deaf, and he is her ASL interpreter and her partner in Marketing. Far as I can tell, after only a week, he’s nice enough, despite his frumpy looks and somewhat deadpan face.”

Intrigued, Dean probed on. “Frumpy looks? What do you mean? I thought you said he was a looker.”

Sam rolled his eyes. “He is. Even I can see that he is handsome. Heck, Charlie said he is dreamy!” That had Dean sit up and pay attention. Charlie did not say that lightly about a guy. Sam took a sip of his beer and continued. “But he always comes in wearing an old, tan trenchcoat and his blue tie tied wrong and his hair… Dean, you would drag him to your salon, honestly! It’s always a solid mess!”

Dean sighed. Damnit. Why did most men feel it was too girly to drag a comb or brush through the tangles on their head? A well brushed or combed head of hair was so nice! It could make or break your appearance.

“Then it’s a good thing I’ll probably never meet him,” Dean said and dug into his last bit of fries. “You know how hard I find it to not touch a head of unkempt hair.”

In The Dog Days

One day deputy sheriff Castiel Novak is out on his usual run, when a guy comes up to join him. They hit it off, and before the day really starts, he has a new running buddy called Sam. Fast forward a few months, and Sam comes running into the office, all upset because his brother is missing! To top off this eventful day, Castiel finds a dog without a collar.

Bone tired, Castiel shrugged on his trusty trenchcoat and dragged himself home. Most days he loved walking home, especially after a refreshing shower had cleared the air like today, but now he was on edge, looking around for the smallest sign of something that might be Dean. That was why he noticed movement in the bushes a bit to the side of the road. He approached carefully, not sure what to expect. Whatever he had thought, a bedraggled, wet dog, wasn’t it. “Hello, you,” he cooed. The dog snapped his head up and Castiel gasped. The animal’s light eyes seemed to pierce his very soul. “Wow. You are a beauty, aren’t you?”

The dog laid its pointed ears flat and from the rustling behind it, Castiel deduced it wagged its tail twice. Careful to not spook the animal, Castiel traced the fluffy neck with his hands, looking for a collar, but not finding it. “You’re a stray. I’m too exhausted to take you to a vet. You don’t look rabid, or fleabitten, so I’ll take my chances. Amara might bust my chops tomorrow, but I can’t look into your adorable face and leave you out here. It’s supposed to rain more tonight. C’mon, you fluffball, I’ll give you some burger meat…”

At the word burger, the dog’s ears snapped up and its soulful expression cheered up. A doggy grin appeared and a pink tongue lolled out. Castiel bit his lip. He had no rope or anything to lead the dog home with. “How do I get you to follow me, buddy? I can’t even grip your collar.” The dog did a little head tilt, ears pricked. Then it trotted from the bushes and shook itself, ears flapping and spraying water everywhere. Castiel jumped back with a startled ‘Hey!’ The dog looked at him with that silly doggy grin, and Castiel chuckled. “Alright,” he said, wiping the droplets off his face. “I guess I’ll just hope you’re going to follow me.” He started walking and to his relief, the dog trotted along.

A Different Parent Trap

Summary:  When Castiel picks up Claire from school one day, he notices her behaviour is off. At home she explains that the girls in class are being mean and excluding another girl from the group, and that she doesn’t want to come along to the planned group hair dyeing appointment.

Dean also picks up his girl, Emma, who is down and just wants to go home. At home she explains she is being excluded by the girls and that the group leader, Michelle said it was because she was weird. That she was weird because her dad was weird. Turns out that is because Michelle’s parents both had beef with Dean in high school. Dean decides to give Emma an awesome new hair style himself. YouTube has loads of tutorials!

Emma’s hair turns out amazing and Claire wants that kind of do as well. Long story short: They somehow all end up at Castiel’s place, where Dean teaches him how to give Claire a dip dye. The girls are loving it and chatter happily, unintentionally letting slip that not all of the other girls had permission from their parents to get their hair dyed.

They simultaneously manage to show Dean’s old bullies true colours to the other parents. During all of this, they start crushing on each-other.

Summary: In a bid to get rid of the Mark of Cain, Dean summons the Fourth Horseman. The anthropomorphic personification of Death has a proposition for Dean, which he gladly takes, since he figures he is the problem in everyone’s life. If he hadn’t gotten Sammy out of Stanford, he might have become a great lawyer, with Jess as his doting wife, and if he hadn’t sold his soul, Cas would still be welcome in Heaven…

Castiel and Sam desperately try to find Dean after he had run off on his own. When Sam finds the Impala, but he doesn’t find Dean, Cas rushes over. It soon becomes clear that Dean is in no danger, but he will be gone for a while. They return to what poses as a normal life for them. For Castiel, that includes replying to the summons of one of his siblings…

Congratulations to all of the amazing artists and authors who participated in the ninth round of the Dean/Cas Pinefest!

It was a difficult year for a number of our fandom friends, leading to a couple of last minute schedule changes and pinch-hit assignments that brought our total number of participants to just 25 authors and 24 artists -- but even with those unexpected changes, 26 teams gifted the Dean/Cas fandom an impressive 787,104 words of pine-filled fic, and 83 gorgeous works of art.

As always, the wealth of creative talent we've been blessed with in this fandom has blown us away, and it's especially wonderful to see the love for our favorite hunter and angel going strong after all this time.

Speaking of which... we’re not done yet!

Registration for the 2026 Dean/Cas Pinefest will open to authors and artists on June 1st 🌲

If you're thinking that seems earlier than we usually open for business, you'd be right. Because this will be our TENTH(!) round, we're planning some extra fun. We'll share details closer to registration time, but we hope you'll all take part!
