Happy Wincest Wednesday! (or Sunday in this case) I have a few questions for people to answer. Feel free to answer them all or just one (or none at all) even if you’re not tagged!

what song describes samdean the most?

man. i used to have a painstakingly crafted playlist with like narrative and all but it's been rendered obsolete in the couple years since by the change in both my taste and my perception of them. if i had to choose one right now, i'd go with you and i in unison by la dispute, because la dispute are 1) good poetry 2) good at longing and devotion 3) this particular song is about grief but not loss of love so it feels like a post-finale song (i encourage you to listen or read the full lyrics)

haha okay i don't have any strong headcanons but i can tell you about a specific russian au we had going with friends and even meant to ttrpg the setting a little but it never worked out

dean was driving an old volga gaz-21 third series (which might have connotations that do not need exploring at this juncture but i'm actually very bad at both cars and soviet history lol) which would be pretty damn cool if lovingly maintained all the way from 60s to 2005 and of course dean would call it "lastochka" (a common endearment for beloved cars) only i have no idea how possible it would be for hypothetical john to get one in the first place

and he wouldn't really have grown up on bootlegs of western music so much as the likes of Kino and maybe even Grazhdanskaya Oborona which was weird af but also massively beloved across different classes subcultures and backgrounds so

talking monsters of the week, i'd love to see their ass kicked by a rusalka (mermaid but creepier) or even a domovoy for comedy (those are generally helpful but mischievous) and get into all kinds of trouble with an array of superstitions while helping the babushkas who give the superstitions power by relying so strongly on them, especially in little villages...

Excerpt: The hellhounds howled again, Dean's soul practically vibrating at the same frequency. No. Nonononono. I can't do that again. I can't be that again. Don't let them take me back. "I won't." Dean didn't seem to hear him, still swinging wildly with each howl. I can't. I...just dump me back in. "I can't." The fuck? "This is more complicated than I expected." He hadn't expected to have to rebuild so much of Dean. He hadn't expected to be alone for this. He hadn't expected it to be him. Castiel closed his fingers more firmly around Dean's shoulder bone, swinging his heads as he tried to track the hellhounds. He didn't have much more time to think. Other plans, Cas. "We run." We're not leaving me. I need that. The demons might too, which meant that they were stuck like this. That left him with rebuilding, which they didn't have time for and, more importantly, looked different from this end. "I need a vessel." Like a body? Grab mine and make a run to a morgue. "A specific body. There's a devout man a few miles from here." A...You mean possession. Dean's soul soured. Castiel braced against the burning and was relieved when the hellhounds howled again from closer. Dean flinched but held himself hard against Castiel's grace to the point where Castiel was tempted to absorb and break down Dean's soul just to save himself. But he couldn't because his task was to raise the Righteous Man. "Dean-" Not gonna let you possess some poor bastard, Cas. That's not an option. "I need permission." More demons now, catching up with the hellhounds. "Nothing is done without permission." Yeah? And I'm sure you go after people who know this stuff. "Yes. They are devout." Oh, the ones that want to jump your bones anyway. "Dean-" Why I thought you bastards would be different from the demons I don't know but- "If I don't get a vessel, I'll die!" Some of the fury leaked out of Dean, Castiel feeling a deep pulse of confusion. You made it through Hell. "Others didn't." Castiel cast a nervous glance at the forest before twisting around to grab at his wing. For a moment, it was in all of its multidimensional glory and then it was a bird wing. Castiel decided to ignore that shift, instead pulling out a feather and letting it drift down. He could feel Dean watching it, keeping one eye on it as the piece of his grace dissolved before it hit the ground. Dean recoiled hard enough that Castiel stumbled to the side, still managing to keep his hand on Dean's corpse. Fuck. It was perhaps a little much. That had been an injured part of him that would have sloughed off anyway. The rest of him would be sturdy enough, at least until the demons appeared. After that he would have to rethink. Use me.

I’ve been following you for awhile and your Over The Hills posts for the other big bang (I’m excited to read that one too!) and I was wondering what writing a big bang is like? (I’m a shy guy so I hope you don’t mind me asking this in secret.)

hi there, anonymous friend! I don’t mind at all! 🫶🏻 I’ve written a couple of big bangs before, but over the hills and far away is my first for the stranger things fandom. (thank you for the kind words, btw!!) a big bang can definitely feel intimidating! I wrote my first one back in the early spn fandom days and I was terrified. I think it’s the structure and the commitment, y’know? you’re working with someone else to create something bigger than the normal fanfic, there are rules and timelines, etc etc.

my personal experience with the stranger things big bang though has been fantastic! collaborating with the artist who claimed my story has been so much fun, and it’s really pushed me to challenge myself. at the end of the day, if you have a story you want to tell, a big bang structure can be super motivating and there are others doing it too so there’s something of a community that grows up around it! if the steddie big bang is anything similar— which it looks to be based on the expectations— I think it’ll be a great time. I wouldn’t be signing up for it the same day that I post my stbb if I thought any differently!
