Toontown Central
Derrick Man (William Boar)
30
Transmasc Bisexual (He/Oil/Drum)
Autistic
Grew up in a family that was extremely focused on how they looked to the public, and was "match-made" with Misty at an early age, but they ended up just seeing each other as annoying siblings. Both sees Misty as an annoyance and as a friend, but doesn't like to admit that second part, especially to Misty herself.
Is crushing hard on both Alton and Rain and is being tsundere about it
Duck Shuffler (Buck Ruffler, Card Shark, Blackjack)
29
Transmasc Demiromantic Homosexual (He/They/Quack/Slot/Luck/Seven/7/🦆/🎰/⚙️/🍒 [Buck], They/It [Card Shark], It/Its [Blackjack])
Bipolar, DID (Buck [Host], Card Shark [Emotion Dampener], Blackjack [Nonverbal Trauma Holder])
Grew up in Toontown Central surrounded by Toons and later moved into Suitopia as an adult, working as a day trader and gambling on the weekends to help relax. At a casino night, Chris spotted him and offered him a position at C.O.G.S under him. And Buck accepted mostly because he realized he had nothing to lose if he applied.
Dating Dave and has a crush on Brian as well as Eerie Descent
Prethinker (Brian Wiseman)
35
He/It/Study/Thought/Brain/King/♟️/🧠/📖/💭
Trans Gay
Paranoid Personality Disorder, Avoidant Personality Disorder
Grew up in a family where his parents were usually not home a lot of time and thought that if he got to the top of his class and graduated with honors, then his parents would actually acknowledge him. But that...never happened. So, after college, he drifted around, not knowing what to do before he applied to C.O.G.S in desperation, so ended up overcompensating to make sure that his place in the company was secured leading to...a lot of mess ups. Also transitioned after entering college, renaming himself, but doesn't like mentioning his last name because he's embarrassed that he picked that for himself.
Is dating Benjamin and is crushing heavily on Mac and Buck
Barnacle Boatyard
Land Acquisition Architect (Alton S. Crow)
40
Cis Bisexual (He/They/Hazard)
Anxiety, Paranoid Personality Disorder
Country boys make do. That's like. Pretty much it. Grew up in a large family, had to start working at a young age to help support the family, and now has trouble knowing when to stop working.
Crushing on William real bad due to them being hired around the same time
Deep Diver (Mary Anna)
32
Intersex Bigender Bisexual
He/She/Ocean/Wave/Dive/Sea/Marine/🌊/🪸/🤿/🛟/⚓/🪝
Autistic
Grew up with two moms who encouraged his love of marine life, to the point of her deciding that was going to be oceans career. Immediately was rivals with Holly due to both of them thinking they knew more about the others' specialty.
Dating Misty and keeps denying waves crush on Holly
Rainmaker (Misty Monsoon)
30
Trans Lesbian (She/Rain/Cloud/Storm/Fog/☔/☁️/🌧️/⛈️/🌦️)
Depression, Anxiety, Autism
Similarly to William, grew up in a family focused on how they look in the public eye, and became hyper attached to William because he was the first person who ever treated her nicely and was the one who she first told that she was trans and a lesbian to. Is hurt about the fact that he won't really talk to her anymore but thinks that it's because they're working in opposing departments.
Is dating Mary and Holly and wishes that the two would just get admit that they like each other already
Ye Ol' Toontown Time
Public Relations Representative (Winston Byrd)
98
Genderfluid Biromantic Homosexual (All Pronouns)
Anxiety, Autism, PTSD, Depression, Paranoid Personality Disorder
Was a close friend of Tawney's before everything went down. Was eventually snuck out of the dungeons by a blue and white cat toon before getting smuggled to Daffodil Gardens where he got restored to his previous state.
Currently isn't seeing anyone but is yearning to have a partner again
Gatekeeper (Holly Grayelle)
35
Holypaladin (Xenogender) Bisexual Lesbian (She/Holy/Gold/Knight/Shield)
Autism, ADHD
Grew up being told that she was extremely good at being a leader and so holy has it engrained in gold that knight can’t be any position other than a leadership one and so tends to clash with anyone who challenges that view. And/or fall in love with them. Luck of the draw.
Dating Misty and keeps denying knights crush on Mary. Used to have a crush on Prester until shield found out that he was gay.
Witch Hunter (Prester Virgil)
35
Transmasc Gay (He/Him)
Depression, PTSD
Grew up in an extremely strict, religious house with a doormat of a father and extremely religious mother, which caused him to have a lot of internalized homophobia, even after he transitioned, and takes it out on people who are extremely secure in their sexualities (ex. Diane, Holly). Also has both a fear and affinity for fire due to being shamed growing up as draconic-descended cog.
Dating Cosmo and sorta kinda dating the Satellite Investors. Also Diane's cousin.
Daffodil Gardens
Vice President (Allan Bravecog)
65
Cis Polyamorous Bisexual (He/Bulb/Radio/Static)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, PTSD
Grew up having people constantly trying to befriend him because he was extremely good at making connections, so tends to have people who he doesn't trust at arms length but pretends that they're closer. Married his college sweetheart Norman Bravecog (OC) and had Cathal around when they founded C.O.G.S along the other Chief Officers after they graduated college. Dotes on Cathal heavily because Cathal was the only child of theirs that survived through infancy.
Married to Norman and has an on-and-off-again thing with both Craig and Chris.
Bellringer (Benjamin Biggs)
38
Transmasc Salmacian Bisexual Gay (He/Ring/Bell/🔔/🛎️)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Autism
Grew up being praised for his healing ability but shamed for rings need to feed on oil, so has an energy of “I am perfect and if anyone argues that I am going to kill them and then myself”. Oh yeah, Benjamin is a vampire (sorta kinda) due to having vague leech-based programing and needing more oil than the average cog to allow for bells healing ability (has two oil tanks for that very reason).
Dating Brian and is a bit jealous of Mac and Winn (also is low-key crushing on them but shh).
Multislacker (Cathal Ray Toby Bravecog)
32
Genderapathetic Aroflux Cassexual (He/They/Tech/TV/📺)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Autism, ADHD
Grew up extremely coddled by his father for reasons mentioned above and quickly realized that it didn’t matter how hard they worked because everyone would assume that techs work was just tvs fathers, so became very tired and just decided to roll with it.
Has a friends with benefits relationship with High Roller and ends up developing feelings for Chip and Graham.
Mezzo Merryland
Chief Financial Officer (Chris P. Dollair)
66
Trans Bisexual Man (He/It/Cash/Coin/Bank/💸/💵/💰/🪙)
Paranoid Personality Disorder, OCD
Grew up extremely poor so has a lot of trust issues and money insecurity (will swing from penny pinching to splurging).
Is heavily crushing on Allan and Craig, while hooking up with Craig sometimes.
Mouthpiece (Belle Dama)
85
Transfemme Bisexual (She/Chatter)
Autistic
Has had a relatively boring life and works to help her husband, who is too disabled to work, and keep them afloat with help from their children. Visits her husband on the weekend but lives in Mezzo Merryland during the weeks. Is confused by her son's taste in men but is very supportive.
Has a husband named Peter and two kids: Tartarus (huh i wonder who that could be /sillly) and Emily (OC), as well as several grandchildren, with her favourite being Cassidy “Cassie” Dama, one of Emily’s children.
Major Player (Dave Brubot)
27
Melodyboy (Xenogender) Pan (He/Melody/Hymn)
ADHD, Autism
Grew up in a very large, musically inclined family so naturally drifted towards music as his main aspiration. Extremely extroverted and is the one who usually gets his friends to socialize.
Is dating Buck and is trying to encourage Buck to talk with Brian and Eerie.
The Brrgh
Chief Legal Officer (Diane Morsecode)
34
Cis Bi Lesbian (She/Legal/Law)
ADHD, Autism
Grew up similarly to Prester, but was the "star" child, but because of that, whenever she fails to do something, it hits extremely hard. Is both extremely annoyed at and extremely worried about Prester.
Is currently single, but isn't looking for anyone. As mentioned, is Prester's cousin.
Firestarter (Flint Bonpyre)
He/Fire/Flame/🔥/🧯
27
Transmasc Gay (He/Fire/Flame/🔥/🧯)
Anxiety, Depression, Scoliosis
Had a pretty normal childhood, growing from a weird girl into a weird boy. Met Graham first in high school and dated pre-transition and then met again in sophmore year in college post-transition and started dating (had a nice laugh about the fact that fate kept bringing them together).
Is dating Graham and used to date Chip in college (but still has lingering feelings about him)
Plutocrat (Cosmo Kuiper)
68
Cis Bisexual (He/Star/Constellation/Meteor/Planet/🌟/⭐/🌠/✨/💫/🪐)
ADHD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Grew up in a mob family and would have stayed only attached to it if C.O.G.S didn’t take over the town that he was the head of, leading to star reluctantly joining C.O.G.S. Took one look at Prester and went "oh i NEED to date that man".
Dating Prester and constellations investors, often showering them in gifts to let them know that meteor loves them.
Acorn Acres
Chief Executive Officer (Craig Edgar Oilcan)
69
Transmasc Genderfaun (He/It/They [Collective], He/Oil/One/Fore [Craig], It/Its [Justice], Edgar [He/They/Golf])
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, DID (Host: N/A, Headmates: Craig [Persecutor, Protector], Justice [Emotional Funnel], Edgar [Guilt Holder, Trauma Holder])
Grew up in an extremely cut throat family where it was essentially "succeed or get scrapped" which caused his system to form at an extremely young age. Applies that motto to a lot of its life, which is why they turned a blind eye to everything involving Chip.
Is deep in denial about the fact that he cares about Allan and Chris (doesn't want to admit that he's attached) and "rationalizes" it by hooking up with Chris and having a good business relationship with Allan.
Treekiller (Spruce Campbell)
46
Cis Gay Man (He/Wood/Gnaw/Log/Chop)
ADHD
Grew up in a large, relaxed family who were the types to encourage friends stay for dinner before they headed back home (especially when it came to Chip and his family). Is so worried about Chip, especially with how little he tells him about work nowadays.
Is single.
Chainsaw Consultant (Chip Revvington)
54
Boyflux (Chip) Agender (Override) Demi Bisexual Gay (Chip) Pan (Override) (He/Rev/Chainsaw/Saw [Chip], It/Its [Override])
Autism, DID (Headmates: Chip [Host], Override [Protector, Persecutor, Prosecutor, Emotional Funnel])
As mentioned in this post, grew up in a very oppressive, strict household that punished him for any sort of autistic behavior, leading towards Override to form to help mask revs autistic traits.
Chip is still not over Flint while Override is head over heels for Cathal, with their difference in romance causing a bit of a struggle in the system.
Drowsy Dreamland
Featherbedder (Tawney C. Esta)
98
Cis Gay (He/Sleep/Snore/Nap/Rest/Bed/Dream/💭/💤/🛏️)
Cis Gay
Insomnia, Depression
Grew up pretty ordinarily, but got depressed after his husband passed, but is now slowly healing from that.
Had a husband, and has grandchildren as well. Also has a bit of a “are they dating or just good friends” thing going on with Doppel (OC)
Pacesetter (Graham Ness Payser)
27
Transmasc Genderfast (Xenogender) Gay (He/Speed/Fast)
Transmasc Genderfast Gay
ADHD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Literally does not remember his childhood other than the fact that he had dated Flint in highschool. Only remembers his life post-transition, which is pretty ordinary and standard.
Is dating Flint and has a rivalry/crush thing going on with Multislacker.
So there you go!! That took. way too long but I hope you like!! Also if you have any questions please ask 'em!! This is a lot of fun to do :3

brian headcanons? pretty please
Smiles so big and wide at you yes absolutely I love that little freak
putting under a read more for convenience's sake
- I'm 100% a Bug Brian truther, that man is an insect you can't convince me otherwise, I like to think he can make weird little chittering noises and climbs up walls with his hands and feet for enrichment
- He's trans and has no last name because he didn't care enough to pick a new one so he went with none, acts all mysterious about it because he thinks it makes him look cool
- This man needs glasses so fucking badly but after a litany of "nerd" comments growing up he refuses to wear them, has attempted contacts but cant get them in his eyes for the life of him
- He would genuinely rather die than go to the factory, he does all his needed repairs on himself unless he's forced to (usually by Ben or William)
- He gets along with his co workers in, his own way when he's forced to interact with them. He does not understand how to behave "appropriately" around other people, he's my favorite rude autism icon (he is going to insult your intelligence at any given opportunity with what he sees as good intentions and does not understand why everyone hates him)
- I'm also a Bellthinker truther I think that british man should kiss that bug right on the brain dome and make him so flustered his systems soft reset
- Every time theres a meeting that he's in the second he's at the front of the room the entire mood changes because everybody knows he's gonna have a whole presentation planned thats no less than 1 hour long, and he will yell at you if you try to stand up for any reason
- I like to think living in the heart of toontown (right in the playground no less) definitely has some side effects on him, the silliness is rubbing off on him more than he realizes, most obviously things like his brain exploding comically when he starts baby raging
- Im sorry this man is absolutely a cog reddit user (coggit? idk) you can't change my mind, hes a power mod and proud of it, keeps getting talked to for using it on company time though
- He's very attatched to the Desk Jockeys but absolutely hates to admit it, I like to think its a Dr. Robotnik with Scratch and Grounder type dynamic (thinking especially like that one scene where Robotnik says "I don't even know why I bother to repair you guys, I suppose I'm too sentimental" shit like that)
- With his dynamics with the other toontown central managers, I think he actually feels very guilty about the incident that happened with Buck- but instead feigns a petty hatred for him so nobody will ask him about it and he doesn't have to admit how monumentally he fucked up
- He's on relatively chill terms with William, they're both angry big mouthed autistic people who do not know how to shut up so they mesh pretty well, I think they like to fight eachother to let off steam and then makeup immediately after, Brian isn't too fond of the whole oil leakage problem thing though because it makes a mess of his basement but he doesn't exactly hold it against him since he knows he can't help it
- When he can spare the time he loves poking around in the systems of his co workers just to see how they operate out of morbid curiosity and to see how he can make the jockeys more efficient, he's on that medic tf2 shit, not many of them let him do it though (understandably so)
- Probably went to whatever the cog equivalent of medical school was but lost his medical license after The Buck Incident™️
(And I think thats probably good for now because I am dangerously treading the line of infofumping about my AU sorry I have so many thoughts about this creature)

Best Animal Horror Movies
If you’re looking for scary animal horror movies, check out our list of the best animal horror movies.
Tumblr media
25. King Kong (1933)
Backstory: This is the godfather of all eco-horror movies and has been remade numerous times. A film producer visits a remote island that harbors a giant ape. He captures it and ships it to New York City, expecting riches and fame rather than horror and destruction. The scenes where the giant ape struggles with a brontosaurus and a T. Rex employed special effects that were far ahead of their time. The film was an immediate sensation.
24. Squirm
Jeff Lieberman’s slimy slice of scare fare is a fantastic blend of camp and gross-out body horror, just as a flesh-eating worm flick should be.
23. Beneath (2013)
Larry Fessenden’s tense thriller about teens terrorized by a bloodthirsty fish flips the animal horror subgenre on its head by emphasizing the true danger between humans in desperate times.
22. Kingdom of the Spiders
William Shatner headlines this chilling cable television mainstay about creepy, crawly tarantulas ravaging through a rural Arizona town.
21. Grizzly
A low-budget, land-bound rip-off of Jaws, Grizzly has nonetheless harbored a cult audience and was even briefly acknowledged as the top-grossing independent film of all time prior to the release of Halloween.
20. Piranha 3D
Alexandre Aja’s first entry on this list features plenty of cameos, graphic nudity, and gruesome gore, but its tongue-in-cheek approach to its ridiculous elements helps the fierce horror-comedy stay above water.
19. Venom (1981)
Nicol Williamson, Susan George, and Oliver Reed added a level of pedigree to this underground horror favorite about kidnappers under siege by a deadly snake loose in a house that was nearly directed by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Tobe Hooper.
18. Ticks
Produced by practical FX horror bastion Brian Yuzna, Ticks employed incredible creature designs and a charismatic cast that included Seth Green, Peter Scolari, and Alfonso Ribeiro to make up for an undercooked (yet admittedly fun) script.
17. Razorback
Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy may be best known for his beloved directorial work on the action classic Highlander, but the filmmaker first cut his teeth with this underrated ’80s killer boar movie.
16. Burning Bright
Step Up franchise stalwart Briana Evigan is incredibly effective in anchoring this survival horror film about a young woman and her autistic brother who must avoid their stepfather’s illegally purchased tiger who gets loose while they take shelter in their home during a hurricane.
15. Rogue (2007)
From the director of Wolf Creek, Rogue pits a number of rising stars, including Radha Mitchell, Michael Vartan, Sam Worthington, and Mia Wasikowska, against a man-eating crocodile that attacked their respective boats and left them stranded deep in Kakadu National Park.
14. Jaws II
A surprisingly maligned sequel, Jaws II may not be the stone-cold classic that is its predecessor, but the film nevertheless effortlessly crafts a stellar slasher flick in which the killer is another shark with a taste for human flesh.
13. Alligator
Before filmmaker Lewis Teague let a certain Stephen King creation off the leash, he turned heads with this impressive (if a little too outrageous) creature feature about a giant alligator wreaking havoc throughout a city, which includes a truly terrifying sequence in which the alligator makes an unwelcome appearance in a suburban swimming pool.
12. Backcountry
Though the film initially pulls off a pitch-perfect bait-and-switch on the audience, the animal attack elements in this horror picture are disturbingly realistic and nothing short of nightmare fuel.
11. The Shallows
Jaume Collet-Serra delivers (as per usual) with this largely one-woman show in which Blake Lively must use her wits and limited resources to avoid becoming shark food while stranded far from the shore of a remote beach.
10. Lake Placid
Written by TV wunderkind David E. Kelley and directed by horror legend Steve Miner, this awesome animal attack movie is especially bolstered by an inspired, against-type supporting turn from the legend herself, Betty White.
9. The Reef
Andrew Traucki’s utterly unnerving shark film not only contains some of the scariest scenes in the subgenre’s history, but is even more petrifying when you discover it was based on a true story.
8. Arachnophobia
Produced by Amblin Entertainment, Arachnophobia has enough practical uses of real spiders to send chills down your spine while offering enough goofiness and giant spider puppeteering goodness to keep you from slipping out of your skin.
7. The Grey
Liam Neeson lent his post-Taken star power to Joe Carnahan’s intense horror-thriller about survivors of a plane crash who find themselves stalked by a pack of hungry wolves.
6. Deep Blue Sea
Though people might know Deep Blue Sea best for its now-iconic shocking death scene, there’s plenty more to love in Renny Harlin’s high-concept “super sharks” horror movie.
5. Crawl
A young woman and her injured father fight for their lives when they are trapped in their basement with hungry alligators and rising water during a hurricane in Alexandre Aja’s brutal edge-of-your-seat horror-thriller.
4. Anaconda
This star-studded fright flick put animal attack films back on the map in the late ’90s and still remains a bone-crunching callback to the more lighthearted and somewhat exploitative era of the subgenre.
3. The Birds
This critically acclaimed film following birds that raise hell in a quiet San Francisco suburb will always be one of the most recognizable entries in Alfred Hitchcock’s late-career renaissance.
2. Cujo
Lewis Teague’s undeniable classic of the animal attack subgenre showcases Stephen King’s harrowing tale of a woman and her sick son trapped in a car stalked by a rabid St. Bernard in all of its ferocious glory.
1. Jaws
The most legendary animal attack horror film of all time, Jaws has changed not only the horror genre but the movie business permanently and caused multiple generations to think twice before going into the ocean.

I have no words.
When I heard that the episode where Paula returned had been written by Lydia Marchant, I knew, immediately, to expect very good things. You all know how much I praise S22E44 of Holby, and the way it tied Henrik’s autism into his trauma - the heartbreaking way they addressed how his ostracisation and isolation, even undiagnosed, left him vulnerable as a child. The horrifically realistic comments from Reyhan suggesting it was Henrik’s own fault that his mother killed herself, because she “could never really bring herself to love him”. I came out of that episode in awe. Marchant had evidently done her research; she clearly knew the things people say about disabled kids, and just how high the abuse rates for disabled children are. It was a shining spark of careful writing in a storyline that was otherwise a sensationalist mess.
Marchant hasn’t done much TV writing, going by her IMDB, but I put my faith in her to write about disability issues again, after how good she was last time. Some part of me, however, worried that perhaps Holby S22E44 was just a fluke, and this episode could be a letdown.
I was wrong to worry. Lydia Marchant has done it again.
Tonight’s episode had me on the verge of tears so many times. The complexity and realism was amazing, yet heartbreaking.
The scene with Paula at the social services meeting wrecked me. The way that every little thing she said and did got turned back against her and treated as proof she was unfit to raise a child. The way the social workers talked about her “behaviours”. It was so hard to watch.
Rosie Jones was incredible in that scene. I cannot praise her acting highly enough. It made everything so much sadder, because you could feel Paula’s desperation.
And when Adi walked in and asked if there was any chance Paula’s baby could be born today... oh my fucking god. Again - I don’t even have the words. Paula did everything right, she did everything social services told her to, and they still refused to let her raise her own daughter. Just because she was struggling ten years ago. And she was struggling in the first place because she was a poor, disabled, abuse victim with no support bringing up her child. And all they did was take the kid away from her. And now she’s being robbed of the chance to be a mother all over again.
I wish I could say it wasn’t realistic.
Paula’s screams when she found out she wouldn’t be allowed to keep her baby were haunting.
The complexity of the writing in the interactions between Paula and Dylan was brilliant. The visible vs. invisible disability contrast - “you’ve had an easy life!” - Paula’s cerebral palsy in contrast to Dylan’s autism. The fact that Dylan can pass himself off as neurotypical but just “weird”, and Paula cannot. The fact that they’ve both faced abuse and discrimination and trauma anyway. The effects that all of this has on both of their lives.
(Something about tonight made me think back to S29E43. The scene where Brian, Dylan’s father, finds out his new girlfriend is pregnant. And his first thought is to ask how far gone she is, to make sure they’ve “still got options”. Because he doesn’t want to “risk” having another autistic child. He only changes his mind when he thinks it could actually be his second chance to have a “normal” kid.)
And then there’s the parallel of Paula’s first child going into care, while Dylan grew up in care himself.
There’s so many layers and so many differences and parallels in this storyline. It’s just brilliant. And William Beck and Rosie Jones both acted it so, so well.
The last scene with Paula in her flat, planning to run away, had me straight up crying. Fucking hell.
As heartbreaking as this storyline is, I can’t wait to see how it plays out, and I hope Casualty continue to handle it with the care and sensitivity that they have done so far.
So that’s all of that covered. As for Paige - as with last week, she’s still got a lot to learn as a doctor, but she does show a lot of compassion and that’s a very good start. I really do like her so far. The actress is still very charismatic.
The surrogate mother storyline provided an interesting contrast to Paula’s story. When the spoilers said the surrogate lady was 60, I was like “surely that’s impossible”, but then I looked it up and apparently there have been women who managed to get pregnant at that age through IVF! The more you know. See, watching medical dramas can actually be educational sometimes! XD
And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up when the baby finally started crying.
It was also nice to finally see Rosa again. She basically disappeared for ages. I’ve missed her.

Ten new releases
Thanks to NetGalley, I’ve been getting advance reader’s copies of new books in return for honest reviews. There aren’t any big books in this crop (Ill Will comes close), but there’s probably something for everyone. And now, in chronological order, some offerings from the first half of 2017. . .
The Dry (Jane Harper, Flatiron, 336 pp., January 10). 4/5 stars. Returning to his small Australian hometown for the funeral of his childhood friend Luke, Melbourne cop Aaron Falk is convinced by Luke’s parents to take a closer look at the circumstances of his death. Doing so revives his and Luke’s shared past. That past involves a dead girl, and the town hasn’t forgotten. To make matters worse, a drought has everyone on edge. Falk has to negotiate their hostility and secrecy to shine a light into some dark places. A well-paced murder mystery in an unusual setting, with good writing. Reese Witherspoon has optioned it for a movie, and I hope that the movie lives up to the book’s cinematic quality.
Read if: You like who-done-its and police procedurals.
The River at Night (Erica Ferencik, Gallery/Scout Press, 304 pp., January 10). 3.5/5 stars. Four friends (is that a thing? seems like it's usually four friends) go river rafting off the grid in Maine. From the beginning, it's clear that things are not going to go smoothly. The guide is sketchy, they aren't experienced rafters, and one of them is an ER nurse, which is never a good sign in this set-up. This was a decent airplane read, if one-note (ominous from beginning to end.)
Read if:  You enjoyed the 1994 movie The River Wild.
The Impossible Fortress (Jason Rekulak, Simon & Schuster, 304 pp., February 7). 4/5 stars. Billy and his friends are coming of age in 1987, and they come up against, get mired in, or are individually able to resist sex, crime, and the Commodore 64. Light and funny – I read this after reading The Vorrh (Brian Catling), which was really weird and dark, and The Impossible Fortress was a perfect palate cleanser.
Read if:  You want a mash-up of Stand by Me and Microserfs.
The Futures (Anna Pitoniak, Lee Boudreaux Books, 320 pp., January 17). 3 or 4/5 stars, depending on how you feel about things and maybe how old you are. Around the time I graduated from college, I was telling my hairdresser about how great the movie St. Elmo's Fire was. She basically said, of course you like it - it's about your life right now. I think I feel about The Futures the way she did about SEF. The narrative alternates between the perspectives of Evan and Julia, who are living together in New York after graduation, and also skips backward and forward in time. Julia is really the center of the story and seemed better developed as a character than Evan. As in SEF, there are several men, including Evan, in her life, and drama naturally ensues. Although the book was well written, I think it would have been more compelling without the asynchrony in the telling. Disclosure: For me, The Futures suffered by comparison with A Little Life, which also told the story of college friends in their post-graduate lives in New York. If you haven't read A Little Life, then (1) you might like The Futures more, and (2) WHY HAVE YOU NOT READ A LITTLE LIFE YET?
Read if:  You want the literary companion to St. Elmo's Fire.
Ill Will (Dan Chaon, Ballantine, 480 pp., March 7). 3/5 stars. Dustin Tillman is a therapist, a widower, a father, and the childhood survivor of a mysterious mass murder that was attributed to his foster brother. When his client Aqil – a cop on leave with a strong tendency toward conspiracy theories – gets Tillman questioning his past as well as recent events, things start to fall apart. Told from the perspectives of the various men (Tillman, his son, his foster brother), this book had an appealing premise but the overly introspective characters were ultimately unlikeable.
Read if:  You liked his previous books? You have a lot of time on your hands? Try The Dry first.
The Rules Do Not Apply (Ariel Levy, Random House, 224 pp., March 14). 5/5 stars. “I had been so lucky. So little had truly gone wrong for me before that night on the bathroom floor.” This memoir of how Levy builds a life and eventually a family, loses it, and survives is a deeper, albeit implicit, commentary on feminism and happiness than the explicit, sociological book The H-Spot (see below). Love and loss is a common trope, but Levy’s description of her grief is special and at the same time universal. “Grief is a world,” she writes, “you walk through skinned, unshelled.”
Read if:  You liked Cheryl Strayed’s Wild.
A Criminal Defense (William Myers, Jr., Thomas & Mercer, 382 pp., April 1). 4.5/5 stars. Got this one through an Amazon Kindle special, and I had to include it in this list even though it wasn’t a reader’s copy per se. Myers’s first book is told from the perspective of criminal defense lawyer and former prosecutor Mick McFarland, whose plans to mount the defense case of his life are subverted by the fact that everyone is keeping secrets from him. A great, fast-paced read. Looking forward to the next one, due out in 2018.
Read if:  You like Scott Turow’s novels and you don’t mind a change of venue from Chicago to Philadelphia.
The Dinner Party (Joshua Ferris, Little Brown, 256 pp., May 2).3 to 5/5 stars depending on the story. I keep wanting to recreate the magic of Then We Came to the End (2007), so I read this collection even though I’m not a short story person. Other reviewers I’ve heard (including Ferris himself) have basically characterized the protagonists of these stories as a (mostly male) bunch of assholes. It’s true that you wouldn’t want to spend too much time with them, so maybe the short story format is good for that. I personally found them more poignant than some others did. Sure, some were straight-up assholes, but others struck me as just wanting something they couldn’t have, in a childish kind of way: a perfect day, a married coworker. “More Abandon, or What Ever Happened to Joe Pope?” was the tragicomic best of the bunch.
Read if:  You’re a short story person and you can suffer fools.
Ginny Moon (Benjamin Ludwig, Park Row, 368 pp., May 2). 4.5/5 stars. Ginny Moon is 13 years old and autistic. She has a new foster family, a history no one understands that she can’t explain, and a quirky means of meting out justice, including duct-taping your drugs to Maine coon cats, flushing your socks down the toilet, and pooping on your rug (hiding some of the poop in the heat register for good measure). Told from Ginny’s first-person perspective, this is a unique novel that is funny, scary, and ultimately satisfying.
Read if: You’re interested in the inner workings of an autistic mind, you like unreliable narrators, and/or you’re a human being.
The H Spot (Jill Filipovic, Nation, 336 pp., May 2). 3/5 stars. I was looking forward to this release after reading Filipovic’s opinion piece for the New York Times, Why Men Want to Marry Melanias and Raise Ivankas. The premise of the book is fascinating: What would a world designed around women’s happiness look like? Unfortunately, the book is more of a catalog of the things that make women (and also a lot of men) unhappy. There were some moments that felt new and important (e.g., discussion of the new “wellness” dietary rules for women), but also a sense of missed opportunity. What would the world look like if men and women switched places? Would pregnancy be a pre-existing condition? Would men change their names when they married? How would the workplace change?
Read if:  You can’t get a copy of Naomi Wolf’s The Beauty Myth. Eat a doughnut while you’re at it.

MMR Vaccine Science - Del Bigtree Vs. Cathy Newman of Channel 4 News
On March 31, 2017, Del Bigtree was briefly interviewed at the Revolution for Truth Rally in Washington D.C by British Channel 4 News correspondent Cathy Newman.
youtube
Throughout the course of the short clip, Del is questioned about his stance on the measles vaccine, and he quickly inundates his correspondent with facts from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to Bigtree, modern medicine has it completely backward in regards to the measles vaccine. Before the invention of the measles vaccine in 1964, Bigtree states,
According to Bigtree, modern medicine has it completely backward in regards to the measles vaccine. Before the invention of the measles vaccine in 1964, Bigtree states,
…the death rate from measles was .036 per 100,000 people that got measles. No one has died from the measles, and nearly a hundred children have died from the vaccine. The measles vaccine does kill. And measles was not killing anybody based on scientific evidence before the vaccine ever arrived.”
We looked it up, and according to this page on the CDC, it’s even lower, at 0.016% using the highest possible estimate with the numbers given (500 deaths out of three million). She does not understand his data at first, then decides his science is junk, and then as he states again where he’s getting his numbers, she seems to think that he is not understanding his own statistics. He has to state repeatedly that he is quoting the CDC.
In other words, the death rate from measles was less than one person in 300,000 infected, which is a number so small that it’s statistically insignificant. On the other hand, in the past ten years, close to one hundred children have died from complications from the measles vaccine. Del is stating that  this proves the measles vaccine is more deadly than measles ever was.

About Del Bigtree
For those that know Del’s previous work, this stance is hardly surprising. As an Emmy award-winning medical journalist, Del has years of experience in producing medical TV shows, often around controversial issues. After numerous viewers contacted him to request he cover the potential dangers of vaccines and their connection to autism, Bigtree decided to dive into the topic and he hasn’t stopped since.
In 2014, the release of audio recordings of conversations between vaccine researchers Dr. Brian Hooker and Dr. William Thompson revealed potential fraud in the CDC’s research about the correlation between vaccines and autism in children. While the revelations from these audio clips were largely ignored by mainstream media, Del used them as the backbone of his recently released documentary on the risks of vaccines, titled Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe.
About Vaxxed
Working with Dr. Andrew Wakefield, Del was haunted by the evidence he found connecting autistic children and vaccinations. Rather than making a stand against vaccines in general, Vaxxed explores the problems with the MMR vaccine that is formulated to vaccinate children against measles, mumps and rubella all in one. By vaccinating children with the MMR vaccine instead of three individual vaccines, the documentary claims, parents inadvertently increase their children’s risk of developing autism.
Related: Vaccines, Retroviruses, DNA, and the Discovery That Destroyed Judy Mikovits’ Career
youtube
History has long prosecuted the people who first make controversial discoveries, and in Bigtree’s view, the widespread disregard for anyone who challenges the safety of vaccines is a modern example. Looking at the epidemic of autism that is sweeping through the country and affecting 1 in 45 children, Bigtree believes that the diagnostic rate will only increase unless something is done to reduce children’s exposure to unsafe vaccinations.
By continuing to question widely-accepted evidence about vaccine safety and dig deeply into the troubling medical questions about vaccines today, there’s little doubt that Del Bigtree will continue to make a stand against the MMR vaccine and seek out ways to educate people about its dangers, no matter what mainstream media chooses to report.

things that i am absolutely baffled by
- people who dont have sensory issues w/water just put their entire face under the shower???
- not everyone’s parents have yelled at them at some point
- people who can just,,,,do things.  like they think “im gonna do x” and then immediately get up and do it
- conversations. what the fuck is that about
- apparently most people dont (try to) listen to an artist’s entire discography once they decide the like them
- people just say things to their therapist.  i know thats what theyre there for but like how do you bring shit up

Amazed
Amazed I’m stunned with all the wonderful comments I’ve been getting about Chasing Fruit Loops. I enjoy hearing how we make people laugh while trying to trick each other into giving me money for my autistic nephew’s school. I’m more than happy to do this, I get a sense of pride and I feel good doing it.
What’s Next Right now, May and June are booked. July, we have a good friend of mine coming up from NC. I know Herbbie about 25 years. This should be good, we know a lot of THINGS about each other! In June we have Brian (Brotha B) Semple coming on as well as Dan Acosta, TG Company and the extremely outspoken William Byrne (don’t miss this show on June 10th. I will be surprised if we don’t get kicked off the air!!
Rest Of The Week Tomorrow I’m going to catch up to a new sponsor and create his logo for the website. Then I am going to see my sisters little guy. OMG hes too cute as well as being 13lbs and not even 2 months old. I haven’t seen him in a bit and I hope he likes the ele-ma-phant (elephant) I got him! After that maybe dance class.
Dance Class I went back to belly dancing mostly to get more involved with the community. We have some really, talented dancers at Tribal Dance in East Northport. Glad I went to get back into it, stretch and get a couple of pounds off!! I have the okay from the dr for very light exercise. Still no lifting and bending.
Well its back to work!! Yep, playing pharmacy technician to keep the radio show going and a roof over my head!
DONT FORGET TO LISTEN IN EVERY SAT NIGHT AT 8PM TO CHASING FRUIT LOOPS
